Cuddle Copy
John Price X GN! Reader
Summary: Having to wait out the enemies' transport, sleep was the only option. Lucky you have your teddy bear Price with you.
Warnings: Fluff, Established/Secret Relationship
-I heard Barry say that Price likes to read and I just had to write something.
Putting your gear down, your head snaps to John’s sighing, knowing he’ll have a hard time falling asleep. Always on guard on missions, never taking time to relax even at home, and dating for a year and a half, you’ve learned things about each other, like how he likes his tea and how you like to be cuddled.
All things cozy when you're home, but as soon as missions came, you had to be careful as he was your superior. You met outside the field but while in another unit before he had you transferred, making you both closer. Sometimes you talked that maybe Laswell could be open-minded enough, but never did you go through with it, but that didn’t stop your theory that she knew from the start.
Snapping from your thoughts, you came to watch John make his bed on the concert floor. Getting up, you started next to him, putting your water and light on as if it were your bedroom back home. Sitting down, you look over at his side; he had sat down before you already with a book in his hand that he’s read over a hundred times since you’ve been with him.
You put your radio in front of you, waiting for anything to come through. "I’ll take the first watch," he says, catching your attention as you look over at him, still in his book. "I’m not tired," you say before turning back and picking up the radio to tune it to the new channel.
"Come in Price and L/n" Laswell’s voice comes through with a bit of static: "Copy, Laswell, what do you have?" Your focus snaps as you feel John’s hand gently rub your back.
Your face feels hot as he moves under your shirt, touching your now-hot skin. "Transport is still on track; it’ll be there by morning. Make sure you two can still stand by then." As her words left the air, John’s hand stopped. She knew.
"H-How?" Was all you managed to say through your shock. Her laugh doesn’t make the room any less tense. "How could I not notice the way you two look at each other, there’s no doubt." You both were left dumbfounded, thinking you had hidden well. "Do the others know?"
"Doubt it; I don’t think they could put two brain cells together to figure you out." John huffed a laugh, agreeing with her. "You’re safe, you two; stay close; it’s going to be a cold night." Was all she said before it returned to static.
Turning to John with a smile, you commanded, "You heard her; open up." A smirk appears on his face as he opens his arm, letting you lay on his chest while he holds his book open with the other. Kissing your head before his warm arms cuddled you tighter.
His voice was a bit tired as he started to read to you, making your eyes heavy. John’s voice is leading you into sleep, your secret still safe.
Hello, I hope you enjoyed if there is and grammar mistakes or misspellings sorry about that feel free to let me know in the comments, have a great day/afternoon/night!

Closer to Midnight
Barry Allen x Male Reader
Request; Barry x male reader with reader taking care of Barry
Barry lost his powers temporarily and he is completely different. He arrived late to work and he is having a rough time. Barry forgets that he can't run fast and you have to remind him about it.
“I’m so sorry I'm late, Y/n,” Barry said out of breath.
It's date night and he is two hours late. You went home after waiting for a while and he feels bad about it.
“What happened?” You asked.
“I was working on a case and since I can't move fast, I had to wait for the evidence. Then getting to the crime scene and back to the station took longer and my jeans got ruined-” Barry rambled on.
“I get it,” You said.
“I’m sorry. Everything feels so different without my powers and I feel slower” Barry said.
“It's only temporary, Barry. For now, try not to overwork yourself” You said.
“Do you forgive me? I didn't mean to leave you alone at the restaurant for hours. I honestly lost track of time and I forgot to call you” Barry said.
He wrapped his arms around you.
“Let's eat and we can cuddle,” You said.
Barry kissed you on the lips. Barry did cook dinner for you and you did help him.
----
It's raining very hard with thunderstorms. You made it home just in time and you start to call your boyfriend. But he didn't pick up and you start to text him, suddenly the door opened.
“What happened?” You said in shock.
Barry is soaked and you are speechless.
“I got caught in the rain. While walking to the bus stop, I got splashed by some idiot in his car. When I got on the bus some kid spilled his soda on me. Babe, it sucks having no powers and... Ugh” Barry whined.
“You are home now. Come, let's get you out of the wet clothes and into a hot shower” You said.
Barry followed you to the bathroom. You start to help him take off his clothes then you turn on the hot water. You went to get his pajamas and Barry is happy to be home.
After the shower, you noticed he is sneezing and shivering.
“Your body aches?” You asked.
“Yeah. I think *he starts to cough* I think I'm sick” Barry said.
“Yeah, looks like it. I'm going to make soup then tea” You said.
You kissed his head and he smiled. He watched you make soup and he starts to ask how was your day. You did eat soup with Barry but you're not sitting close to him.
“I hate the taste of cough medicine,” Barry said.
“Doesn’t matter if you hate it. Just take it so you can sleep better” You said.
“So... So this means we can't cuddle?” Barry asked.
“Not tonight. Drink the medicine” You said.
“This sucks,” Barry said.
Barry drank the cough medicine and he didn't like it. Before going to sleep, you made him tea and he starts to drink it. But while sleeping, you can hear Barry cough a few times.
The next day, Barry is feeling worse. You went to the store to buy more tea and cough medication. You make him lunch and he starts to cough again.
“I hate being sick,” Barry said.
“We all do. Long as you take the medicine then you will get better” You said.
“I know, babe” Barry smiled.
Later, you and Barry started to watch movies for a little while. Then you played board games with him. You made the soup again and he starts to eat it. Barry starts to cough again and he sighed then you gave him a napkin.
For the last few days, you have been taking care of Barry. He appreciates you taking care of him and he ordered takeout from your favorite place to eat. He surprised you with a date night and dessert. Barry would kiss you on the lips but he kissed your cheek.
Slowly Barry is starting to feel better and he is happy about it. But you make sure he takes the medication and he does.
✫ ✫ ✯ ✫
Barry is shirtless and he is sitting on the bed, you are massaging his shoulders.
“That feels so good, Y/n,” Barry said.
“Try not to scare me like that. I know you are trying to stop Zoom, but you are not alone” You said.
“I’m sorry. I didn't mean to make you worried... I thought I had everything planned” Barry said.
“Sometimes plans, don't go in order. Remember how we started to date?” You said.
You keep massaging his shoulders.
“Yeah, I remember. It was supposed to be a double date, but you were supposed to date someone else but we ended up dating. I wouldn't change that for the world” Barry said.
Barry got up now he is facing you, then you and Barry started to smile. He gently pulls you closer to him and he starts to kiss you. You and Barry lie in bed and keep kissing each other. He pulls you closer and he starts to smile, you keep kissing him.
----
You are in the kitchen and Barry is watching you cook. You are not much of a cook but you wanted to try to cook something different and new.
“I saw this online and I thought I should try it” You smiled.
“Can’t wait to try it” Barry smiled.
You put the plate in front of him and he takes a bite of the food.
“Well?” You asked.
“Actually, it's not that bad,” Barry said and he takes another bite.
“You mean it?” You asked.
“Yeah, I mean it. The food turned out good, Y/n” Barry smiled.
He gets up and gave you a peck on the lips.

6. You fucked up
part 6 out of 8
word count: 1077
"You fucked up", you concluded. You watched Barry carefully take the bottle away and move it further on the table. Then he smiled sweetly.
"I did, big time", he made a circle movement with his finger, "wasn't supposed to be like that. I thought I'd go one day earlier just to think about it better, to come up with a plan. And probably yeeted myself into a different world altogether. Do you even have a Superman here?"
You giggled.
"Yeah. And the Justice League. And Batman. And the Flash".
"You're not mad at me?" he asked.
You checked yourself and couldn't find any madness.
"I should've understood it was... a different you", you said. Barry put his head on his hands and almost fell on the table, looking at you like a puppy.
"How?"
"I mean, smiling at me when coming home? Wild".
He rose again.
"What? You're the best person in the world. Why wouldn't I smile at you?"
You sighed. This Barry seemed... more innocent?
"Why did you flinch when he took your arm?" he asked slowly.
You shrugged.
"It's been strange lately, we've been fighting about everything for months now".
Suddenly you felt ashamed, like you both used each other. Truth was, you were just so happy that he came home for once, without a complaint to mount on you, that you forgot caution.
"Why? I mean, how?" he opened and closed his mouth several times.
"Don't you know? Kara, and the journalists, and my work, and just... life..."
"Who's Kara?"
"You don't have Supergirl?"
Barry made a face.
"Supergirl?"
"Yeah. Don't we have the same problems in the other universe?" you felt stupid even asking. This morning, your mind was elsewhere completely. You wouldn't even consider a fucking multiverse. Now you were wondering if somewhere out there, there were happier Y/N and Barry.
Barry said,
"Uuuuhhhhh..."
The light was slowly turning to evening. You thought of tea.
"Well. You see. At home, at my universe, we, uh, are not dating yet".
You felt words snaking on your tongue. You didn't know the other you. But the resources this Barry had for you were almost eternal, it seemed. No wonder he was so hungry.
"You're not... we're not... and you came here to fuck me anyway?"
"Uhm... if you put it like this, it does sound manically, I admit, but the...." he was choosing his words very carefully, "the purpose of my visit was not that. I didn't expect you to... ugh... love me back, you know". And he nodded, as if patting himself on the back for the good response.
You reached for the bottle again, not breaking the vindictive eye contact with him. He looked back at you loyally, the way he hadn't looked at you for ages now. It hurt that today, Barry was already so jaded by this relationship that he usually gave you the tired look, the look of Barry who has had a fight with a stranger, at ten pm, while walking alone in the city.
"How did we get together by the way?"
"I'd rather not say", you mused. "Maybe we shouldn't".
He was struck by that.
"Why not? Whatever the circumstances, we can work it out. I love you. It's so easy to look for compromise when you love each other".
You hummed, suddenly almost brough to tears.
"Ever since the kidnapping you've been angrier than usual. You're angry with Bruce, for not providing enough security, with the people, with Kara, with Clark, with everyone. With me. With random people who get noisy at the bar. It's like it's too tiring for you to care for me".
"Wait, what kidnapping?"
"Bruce had warned you", you shrugged, "and me. That it's a, you know, high-profile secret".
The ghosts of words dropped by Wayne some months ago echoed in Barry's mind.
"Justice League has a lot of enemies".
He watched you for some time.
"And so what, he decided that it takes too much to keep his girl safe?" he said, with indignation.
You looked him in the eye.
"You did".
"No", he shook his head, "no, no. This Barry - this me, something fucked him up. Does he hurt you?"
"Leave it alone, Barry".
He took your hands.
"If it's really me, I will find it in myself to fix it. Just so you know, I loved you from the moment you let me sit with you in the cafeteria for the first time. When you said you're about to vomit, and we switched trays. That was when it struck me that I need to spend my life with you".
"Now I'm crying", you grumbled, crossly. His hand caressed your face.
"It's going to be okay. I'll show him where the sun don't shine. He has no right to treat my girl like that".
The door slammed again, and Barry stood from the table, chest forward, jaws clenched, his dark hair on his eyes, making him look like a literary character that you could dream up, but never have in reality.
But your Barry ran swiftly into the kitchen, ruffled up, eyes on his forehead, breathing through his mouth. He was in his costume.
"They're already coming. You have a costume?"
Barry was taken aback.
"Uh, no, when I came here it just diss-".
"Boring. You can take my old one, it's at the base. Let's go".
He looked at you, at your face, pale with the confusion, and the bottle. He gave you a little kiss on the cheek.
"Don't leave the house, neither tonight, nor tomorrow. I'll text you".
He grabbed the other Barry's hand, and then you finally saw the difference between them: the old one, he was decisive, dark-faced, hurrying. The Barry from the future looked lost.
"Let's go!"
And they were gone.
You understood utterly nothing. You went to bed that night, confused, aching for answers, feeling a bit guilty, a bit lost, heartbroken, terrified. No news of the aliens, of course, just radio silence. In this tense quiet it was increbidly difficult to fall asleep. You listened to the street through the open window, ready to jump up and, what?
You didn't get the chance to even run, though. The moments after the two Flashes, and the Justice League complete with Supergirl, helped Superman evade one deadly blow from a green-tipped spear, another ship landed on the roof of your building. Crashing through the seventh, sixth floors, and killing you instantly.

A very little guy Christmas (DC)
It was the most wonderful time of the year, at least if you asked a certain orangeish red haired freckled faced 10 year old in a 19 year old's body. wally west always loved Christmas but this year was better then any other as Christmas morning also happened to land on the 4 month anniversary of him and his wonderful boyfriend Dick having moved in together. Their modest little one story house was well stocked thanks to stocks Dick had from his adopted father Bruce Wayne that were managed by Lucas fox meaning neither boy HAD to work out side of the occasional superhero stint. Dick had actually been thinking about getting a bigger house till wally had pointed out they didn't have a butler and he wasn't gonna just clean the palace pointing out 'just because I move at super speed doesn't mean I'm not still putting in the same effort' That being said, Wally had taken it upon himself to put up the Christmas decorations, Dick had just come home with the box with the speedster had removed it from his hands and it look like a Christmas explosion had happened in the house, both inside and out. "..You know, Barry warned me but I didn't believe him." Dick had teased. "Hey! I left the tree alone for us to do together." Wally had said, a mock pout on his face, and earning a kiss on his freckled cheek from dick that almost made him melt. "That you did Wall man, that you did."
As the pair had set up the tree, Dick couldn't help but gush mentally about how much his lover and best friend seemed to have regressed just from such a simple act. he loved the freckled dork with all of his heart and it was that love that helped him get over the semi hurt he'd experience a month before after discovering the dork's secret, something he apparently thought was so shameful that not even Barry or Iris knew about. Considering the bond between the three that said lots. Still while he had been temped to confront wally at the time, Dick had a better plan and was waiting for Christmas morning, when his adorable little speedster would get a very special Christmas present from Santa. "Dick! you're not gonna believe this, but somebody, and I don't know who, ran in here and stole the last of those awesome sugar cookies you made while we were getting the tree decorated! I bet it was Zoom, he's always had a sweet tooth!" Wally said, shaking Dick out of his distracted thoughts. Dick smirked. A speedster wasn't totally unnoticeable if you knew what you were looking for and while you wouldn't be able to do much to stop them in most cases, there was a tell tale vibration in the chest that you could feel if you trained yourself to notice it. even then Wally's claims that it could of been Zoom (who dick knew for a fact was locked up in Iron heights at the moment) Wally's claims fell flat due to the scatter of crumbs on his chin and a smudge of icing on his lip. "Really? that DASTARDLY fiend!" Dick chuckled. "He even went the extra mile to plant evidence on you!" Wally froze and blushed, then wiped his face getting icing and crumbs on his Christmas sweater and gave a sheepish laugh. "oh uh..well, see.." wally started, rubbing the back of his head with the other arm. "Relax, I'll make more after this, but your helping this time. note that means helping me make the dough and cook it, not stealing half of the cookie dough one tea spoon at a time." Dick chuckled. "I can handle that, BUT!" and wally held up a finger. "Only if I get to lick the beaters." "Deal dork."
With the presents under the tree, Wally had to keep fighting the urge Christmas eve not to just unwrap them and re wrap them at super speed to see what he got. For one, he knew it would spoil any surprises Dick had planned for him and well for anther.. he was Nightwing and had been trained by the freaking batman. there was no way Dick wouldn't of found out somehow. Believe it or not, living with the world second (or was that third?) greatest detective could be a pain, no matter how great his butt looked. 'Though it IS a very, very sexy butt.' Wally thought, watching as Dick bent down to add a last second extra three presents. "heh, really going all out and spoiling me this year even after I made you wear that ugly sweater huh?" Wally giggled, sitting on the couch and sipping at some eggnog. It's a wonderful life was playing on TV though never of them were really paying attention to it, it was just a Christmas tradition that Dick had with Bruce and wally had been fine with carrying it on over to their house. "Oh, these aren't from me. Superman was doing a favor for Santa and dropped these off early, he knows what a good boy you've been." Dick said and smirked. Wally giggled, he of course knew there was no such thing as Santa (though given what kind of world he lived in, he'd maybe had spent A LOT of time in the north pole when he first got his powers looking for Santa's workshop) He loved how small dick was treating him and wised that he could of confessed his hidden side to Dick. But with all the weirdo's that dick had dealt with in Gotham, the last thing he wanted was for Dick to find out that sometimes wally liked to act even younger then he had been since December 1st. "heh, you think superman helps out at Santa's workshop?" Wally asked, winking, and keeping the little game going. "well maybe once or twice, Likely doesn't do it too much or he'd put the elf's out of work you know." Dick fired back. Wally snorted, he'd gone for anther drink of eggnog and now some flew out of his nose and onto the front of his own ugly sweater. "Ha! Picture a picket line around the fortress! 'Workshop jobs for workshop elf's!' and all that!" "heh, Or maybe he just doesn't care for the work uniform, having to wear the fake ears and all." dick said, coming over as wally was caught up in a fit of giggles mentally picturing it.
Dick smirked as the movie wasn't even halfway over and wally was already falling asleep, he'd caught him going out on a dozen pointless patrols though out the day but Barry had warned him wally tried to tire himself out on Christmas eve under the whole 'the sooner I go to bed, the sooner it's CHRISTMAS!' mindset. Despite having no powers of his own Dick was pound for pound the stronger of the two (at least when wally wasn't using his speed to add force to his attacks) and Dick scooped the cutie up in his arms, wall's chest to his own and the sleeping redhead's face resting on his shoulder and getting it damp with drool. arm under his silly little lover's butt and thigh's Dick carried him to their bedroom, gently setting wally on the king sized bed and then slowly getting him undressed, trying not to wake the little guy up. Getting wally out of his sweater and pants and socks was the easy part, and Dick had originally planned and tucking wally into bed in just his Flash brief's. The he got a look at the stained on them and rolled his eyes, the boy just didn't like to wipe right! 'Oh well, let's me get to see that cute freckled ass.' Dick mentally chuckled and slowly, carefully, a bit at a time got the undies off of the fastest dork alive. picking out a pair of loose boxers (with a lighting bolt them going on) Dick tugged them up most of the way, getting Wally's cute little pee pee (though Dick knew it was a grower not a shower) covered up the rolled him gently over onto his side, and drooled little as he looked at dat ass. the white almost pale skin (Since Wally didn't have the patience for tanning) made the brown freckles all over the boys bubble butt stick out and if it wasn't for the fact he'd of woken wally up, he'd of leaned down and blew a raspberry on one of those cheeks. 'Sigh, the things I do for the greater good.' Dick thought and tugged up the boxers instead and got the wall man tugged under the blankets. Looking at the clock it was only 8 pm, and Dick wasn't used to going to sleep this early due to his years of patrolling the streets at night. '..oh what the heck.' He thought, and after going and turning off all the lights in the house and making sure the doors were locked, made his way back to their bedroom and stripping down to his own undies, crawled under the blankets. it wasn't even five seconds later before wally was snuggling into his chest and cooing 'daddy' '...I could get used to this." Dick thought with a grin.
Wally yawned as he woke up, a grin coming over his face. He was alone in the bedroom though that wasn't anything new considering, same with Dick carrying him to bed when he conked out. the only mild surprise was that he hadn't been woken up by a raspberry on his cheeks, he knew how much Dick loved his tushie. Getting out of bed he slipped on a cream white sleeping robe, not bothering with a top or pants and his only detour as he made his way to the living room/kitchen because of it's open concept was to tap a kidney so to speak. Dick had made coffee and was reading a new's parent, the tree lights on and a fire going in the fire place and he looked up to see Wally and smirked. "About time sleepy head! I thought you were gonna sleep the whole day away." Dick teased lightly. "he, It's only 6:30 in the morning Dick." "Like I said.." Blowing a raspberry at Dick wally eyed the presents under the tree and was about to make his move when Dick cleared his throat. "I was thinking, I know normally Barry and iris let you open all your presents first..But I wanna open MINE all up first. trust me, it'll be worth the wait." Dick said, setting the paper down and coming over leaving his mug behind as well. wally whined like a little boy and then bit his lip, He WAS semi used to ruling Christmas morning and it couldn't hurt to let Dick this, if he had to. he guessed. "ooook. just don't take forever. I've seen you with wrapping paper, you try and save it!" wally said, unable to keep the BRAT out of his tone. "I swear, I'll go fast..not as fast as you but.." Dick chuckled and took a seat. In what took what seemed like hours to wally (though it was only 15 minutes at most) dick had unwrapped his presents, Having gotten marital arts gear, tech and books from members of the bat family (and some cook books from Alfred) It was his present from wally though that had Dick squealing with delight, as it was a old stuff toy robin Dick had tossed out when they first moved in together since it hadn't handled the move and had basically come apart. Wally had found it, rescued it and after a few (ok a lot) hit and misses had managed to get it cleaned, stuffed and restitched back together. "I know it's not as fancy as the other presents bu-" Wally was said, rubbing the back of his head but was cut off as Dick Hugging him hard and kissed both his cheeks over and over. "Thank you! I love it!" Dick gushed. "This makes me SO glad I went all out for your gifts!" "heh, ooooh? and speaking of~" wally said, grinning like a fool and blushing at just how much Dick treasured his cheap fixed up stuffed toy over the insane amount of cash that had been spent on his other gifts. "Yes! Though hand on, I wanna give you your gifts in the right order!" Dick said and semi rushed and pushed wally onto a seated position on the floor. "heh, jeez, remind me that plushies are the way to your heart." Wally giggled, but took a seat cross legged and holding out his arms, his hands all in 'gimme!' mode. The first present was from Wally's parents, a set pot's and pans even though they already had some, they tended to try and be practical. The second was from his ex Artemis, who he was still friends with since the break up had been on both of them and she was dating Red arrow these days. It was a book on the zen of archarcy, though wally wasn't much into shooting. The third and forth were from Tim and Barbra, Robin and batgirl and were some lower tech versions of the gifts Dick had gotten and the firth was large book with lots of fairy tales in it with vivid drawing to go along with the text. "heh, Guess Alfred doesn't know I'm not much of a reader." Wally said, blushing at that gift and how childish it was. "oh you'd be surprised what Al knows." Dick said in a amused voice. Wally went to ask what that meant but was shushed as the first present from Santa was handed to him, and Dick stood by, with a HUGE grin on his face as wally took the bulky thing and torn at the tape, only to freeze and blush red all over and look back up at Dick. "Merry Christmas little guy." Dick said as wally looked back down at the pack of little waddlers, the diapers for big babies in his lap. "I.. but ..you.. " wally whined, trying to find the words to ask just HOW Dick had known Wally was a closeted adult baby! "Before you ask, Just remember, I'm a world class dective, I found out last month and you have NO idea how hard it's been to keep it to myself till now. well mostly to myself." Dick chuckled. "...Mostly?" Wally asked, gulping and looking back under the tree. there was still two more presents from Santa, a present or two from dick, -groan- a present from batman and.. "Tell me you didn't tell Barry and Iris!?" wally whined and pouted. "I would but that would set a bad example for my baby boy. you shouldn't fib." Dick laughed.
Dick felt a little bit bad as wally whined and whimpered, clearly he hadn't of wanted Barry and Iris to know but they were coming over for dinner later (with Dick and wally going to Wayne manor for dinner on boxing day) and he wanted him free to be a little guy all day. "can i at least get one of my diapies on before we open the rest?" Wally whined, hugging the pack close to his chest and making Dick smirk. "Open up your present from Santa then we'll get my widdle man in his diapies." Dick said, Kissing the redhead's cheek and breaking the pout from his face, though damn if wally didn't try and keep pouting, it just kept turning into a grin. 'Santa's' other two presents it turned out were a six pack of wipes and baby powder for the babies bottom, making it clear to Wally that Dick was more then willing to change him.(and BOY did Dick watching that realization click and the the MASSIVE blush that brought!) and then a second pack of diapers. "Don't worry, we'll get more as you need them, we can even clear out your underwear drawer if we have to." Dick said cheerfully and got a reply that was music to his ears. "DADDY!" "awww, it's ok. I know you'll wanna make me all sorts of presents. Now, ready to get your diapies on?" Dick asked, coming closer and gently pushing Wally onto his back. "Y-yeah but right here?" wally asked, eyes darting to the window, even though the curtains were drawn shut. "hey, you wanna be a big baby, you have to go with it..when does a BABY get to chose where he gets his huggies changed?" Dick asked teasingly. "I hate you so much right now!" Wally huffed and laid back, crossing his arms. "No you don't." Dick said. "..No I don't." wally agreed.
it was surreal, having his loving boyfriend being so ok with this and slipping into a daddy role with such ease.. It also had wally mentally cursing himself for not having spoken up sooner since he could of been rocking out in diapers ALL this time! he closed his eyes not in shame but in bliss and his arms uncrossed as a thumb found it's way into his mouth as Dick pulled his undies off then opened the package. "How many diapers do you want on little man? you can keep sucking your thumb and show me with your finger unless it's gonna take more then five." Dick teased gently. wally squirmed LOTS at that, he had toyed and experimented with layering of course, what big baby hadn't? but those were cheap store brand diapers and he wanted to make these last. Thinking about it for a second, wally held up three fingers. "ok, can do.. Hmm.. Should of gotten your robe off first." Dick said. Wanting to speed this along and get his butt back in diapers wally took matters into his own hands, thumb out of mouth and eyes open as he quickly shed the robe and tossed it down the hall like it was on fire and then was back on the floor, shivering a little from the cold, and a whole lot from excitement. "heh, well that takes care of THAT I suppose." Dick laughed and tickled Wally's tummy as the speedster went back to slobbering on his thumb, but kept his eyes open this time. Dick made a show of it, Unfolding each of the bulky baby print diapers and teasing wally almost with them and making the little reach out with his free hand, all I want. he was almost making Wally's little guy stick up to a full 6 inches. "Well, if I had ANY doubt you didn't want this before." Dick chuckled then added "Butt up wall man." Wally listened to daddy and lifted his hips, all three diaper had been layered on top of each other and it felt like he was resting his butt on a pillow as his tushie came back down, his stiffly twitching wildly and Wally blushed, he was gonna cream hands free any second now. "Guess I better stop teasing and hurry up before you shoot and coat yourself and have to go for a bath." Dick chuckled, quickly sprinkling LOTS of baby powder on Wally's privates and BARLEY getting the inner most diaper taped up before wally started to jerk his hips up and down, crying out around his thumb as load after load of 'baby milk' shot out into the diaper, Dick watching the show and though his orgasmic haze Wally could see Dick was getting excited as well.
Dick had to admit, while he'd of never thought of being a daddy dom before, he was finding it super fun and hot as fuck. watching wally cream that hard just from his huggies had Dick wanting to replace that thumb with a certain put of himself in Wally's mouth, but this was all about the baby and there would be time for that later. Waiting for the hip's to stop jerking Dick moved a hand down and even though the thickness of the diaper could feel how hard his boyfriend turned baby boy was spurting and leaned down, smooching the big babies cheek and setting off anther wave of orgasmic bliss for the little guy. Once wally was done, Dick smiled and rubbed Wally's tummy. "have fun?" Dick asked and wally nodded. "Do you still wanna go on with the rest of the diapers or do you need a bit of big boy time after you cream?" He wasn't being mean, he'd be happy to keep babying little wally but also didn't wanna force this on him anymore then he already had with the telling Barry and iris and Bruce. wally pulled his thumb out, and there was a line of drool with it that Dick somehow found just even cuter and he gushed in a babyish voice. "me wanna wear diapies ALL day dada." Wally coo'ed. Dick's cock almost shot then and there and he was positive it was only his training in self control under Bruce and other martial art master that kept him from shooting though his undies and coating wally. 'maybe I'm gonna need a diaper too at this rate.' dick mused to himself then out loud. "Ok little guy!"
triple diapered and feeling all so small in the most wonderful way, Wally had turned into a little cuddle bug and kept nuzzling into Dick whenever he wasn't opening a present or waiting for Dick to get him one. His present from Barry and iris was a large teddy bear, with a kid flash outfit on and by larger it was almost as big as his upper body and he gave it LOTS of hugs and named it Teddy flash right then and there. His present from Bruce was confusing, as it was a book about how to stop bed wetting and he held it up for Dick to see with a eyebrow raised. "Yeahhh..Bruce didn't really get what I was trying to tell him and just settled on thinking you were a bed wetter so I ran with it." Dick explained sheepishly. "heh, Ok. Guess that means no wearing to grandpa's house huh?" Wally giggled. "Ha! yeah, don't think that'll work out..though Alfred semi knows hence the fairy tales and well, Tim's got a lot of quirks like you so think he'd just get jealous." Dick chuckled. Wally giggled LOTS at that and then it was time for his gifts from Dick, which included two type of paci's (one with a naughty nipple and one with a normal) A set of Lego blocks but the big ones meant for babies, a rattle, a few more stuffies (A anther bear, a owl, a rabbit) and a diaper shirt that was main yellow with the flash logo on the front and on the back went 'Faster pooper alive!' in red lightning text. He also got a teddy bear themed shirt and shorts outfit, a couple of toddler show DVDS and of course his FAVORITE onesie, the one he insisted on right away, was a red one with green trim and a picture of mistletoe on the small of the back, just above the butt and text about it saying "Kiss under the mistletoe"
Getting the onesie on the little guy wasn't easy, Dick would have to see if Iris could let it out some or something or just cut back on the diapers when Wally wanted to read it. But as the protege of the god damn batman wasn't one to give up quick and with a lot of effort and grunting he got the crotch snaps done up, though he had to make use of some spirit gun like he used to keep his mask on to do it. unsurprisingly Wally wasted little time as soon as it was on, rolling over and getting on his hands and knees and offering his massive padded rear up and looking over his shoulder. "Welllll Daddy? Aren't you gonna kiss me 'under the mistletoe'?" he asked, breaking into a fit of giggled. "I suppose I better do it now before you go uh-oh." Dick countered and too lots of hoots and giggles, Leaned in and planted a big old smooch on Wally's diapered butt. "Hehehehehe I might be a BIG baby..But your a BUTT kisser!" Wally giggled like mad. Seeing how excited wally was Dick made a mental note NOT to let him have sugar while he was in little mode. "Soooo what do we do noooooow?" Wally asked, plopping back on his butt, leg's spread. "well I'm gonna go make use breakfast while YOU have a very, very important mission." Dick said, grabbing the first DVD he came across and noting the title then opening it. "Ohhh?" Wally asked, tilting his head and getting the normal paci clipped to his onesie. "Yup! You need to start watched Paw patrol so you can explain it all to daddy when he goes to watch it with you later. think you can handle that?" Dick asked. Wally smirked and then put on a fake look of concern. "it'll be tough.. but I MIGHT be able to handle it if I have my super science blocks to put together while I study the Intel sir!" Wally giggled. "heh.. well of course!" Dick said, going and getting the dvd in the machine and turning on the tv, and hearing a weird scuffing noise turned around and grinned ear you ear. Wall had the container of blocks in one arm, and was rocking his hips and using the other arm to guide him as he scooted across the floor on his butt! 'Just how did it take me finding diapers not to see what a little guy he is, and just how the hell does he manage to adult at all?' Dick wondered.
With the blocks dumped out (after Dick got them opened since there was plastic to cut and Wally was too little to have a knife of course) Wally set to work while sucking on his paci to make a semi mock computer, while Dick cued up the menu and had episode 1 ready to go, he was just waiting on 'agent baby' to give the thumbs up he was ready. give the thumbs up wally could feel a familiar pressure building up rapidly in his bowels and thought about letting Dick know he had to go poopie, and ask to use the potty, he'd never actually crapped himself before. 'nggggh.. nah. he said I hafa think like a baby and babies dun get to pick when and what they use their diapers for.' Wally thought and leaned forward as Dick passed him by, deciding to give his boyfriend a slight warning of what was coming by giving out a poot. Instead, the 3 days of backed up poopie in his tummy (his eating habit's sometimes could back him up for days as food struggled to get though) took the opening and a soft 'eek!' escaped from his lips and a massive amount of poopie forced it's way out into his diapers, bulking them out even more but because of the spirit gum the onesie couldn't just pop open which meant once the back of the diaper was full, it only had one place to go.. the front. Hands on the floor and on his knee's wally suckled hard on his paci as his poopies coated the front of his diapies, making him make tinkles and milk again and as the massive load came to a stop three or four minutes later, he opened his eyes and saw Dick smiling, having watched the whole thing. "So glad you made room for din din. I'll change you after we eat." he said and then gently and firmly pushed wally onto his squishy and smelly seat and made the big baby make anther load of baby milk. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't able to tell daddy much about paw patrol.

20th January, 1936
(A Barris microfic, born from a discussion on the Thomas Barrow Discord about how Richard Ellis would have experienced the death of his employer. Pictures of Max Brown as always stolen and Downtonised from the Sister Boniface Mysteries.)
The night of January 20th 1936 was the longest night of Richard’s life. The worst thing about it was the waiting. Everyone kept saying that it couldn’t be long now, but they’d been saying it for days, and sometimes it seemed that they’d all be suspended in limbo forever, walking on tip-toe, talking only in hushed voices, while the inevitable was refusing to become reality.
Strangely enough, when it did happen in the end, it took a long time to sink in. There was suddenly so much to do, but Richard could barely make himself move.
Miller was no help at all. He crumbled, dissolving in tears, and kept muttering about some kind of disagreement he’d overheard between the King’s physician and the nurse that Richard couldn’t make head nor tail of. He didn’t try; he had his work cut out for him just keeping the man upright.
Richard sleepwalked through the week that followed. And once the funeral was over, he fled to Downton like a homing bird. As soon as he was on the train, his exhaustion carried him off to sleep for real, and he nearly missed his stop. It was late when he got to the house, but they were taking their time upstairs and Thomas wasn‘t down yet. Mrs Hughes put Richard in the servants‘ hall and went to see about tea and biscuits, and he barely remembered to thank her. “Poor man, he’s not himself,” Richard heard her say to Mrs Patmore in the kitchen passage, “but I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised.”
Looking down, Richard knew what she meant, dishevelled as he was. But he barely had time to straighten his tie and fix his hair before Thomas arrived after all. There he stood in the doorway, a longing in his eyes that made Richard’s heart ache, and the very first thing he said was, “I hope you’ve come to stay for good this time.”
For a moment, Richard was lost for words. They’d talked about it in theory before, of course, discussed it as an option. But in his mind, he hadn’t yet moved from loss to gain, hadn’t fully committed himself even to the idea that this, now, would be the time to make the decision.
But then, what else was he waiting for. “Yes, I have,” he replied, and it might just as well have been “Yes, I will.”
Only a moment later, he knew he was home.

Insomnia makes life particularly difficult. It’s one of those things you hope you’ll grow out of someday. And every so often, it can seem that way. But in Barry’s experience, it’s never quite stuck. He’d had a good few months prior to the mission; he’d been falling asleep fairly quickly, staying asleep for most of the night, and overall feeling about as well rested as he could have hoped to. Funny thing is, nobody ever mentioned just how shitty witnessing the destruction of your home plane could be for sleep. Barry thinks that should have made the pamphlets for sure. He knows all the tips and tricks and folk remedies and old wives’ tales for it and quite literally none of them have ever worked for him. So some nights he just wanders the deck of the ship. That’s his own kind of remedy, he supposes.
It’s on one of these treks up to the deck, on a night where any attempt to sleep is futile, that he catches the unmistakable sound of sniffling coming from the kitchen. This gives Barry pause. It’s not as though he expects everyone on the ship to sleep soundly through each night without fail. He’s run into each of them enough on various nights in the two years since their mission’s started. But he never tries to intrude on everyone’s space. Ship’s small enough as it is. He stands outside the doorway of the kitchen and waits. The sniffles continue and Barry can’t in good conscience just pass by.
He clears his throat to give a cursory warning to whoever’s trying to have a moment in the kitchen. As he passes through the doorway he hears another, more aggressive sniff.
“Oh, h-hey Barry, you’re up late,” Lucretia says nonchalantly. She’s hunched over a journal, not one of the one she records the mission in; it’s worn in a way that comes only after years of use and years of sticking notes and pictures and every thought imaginable into it. She taps her pen against the table, looking suddenly fidgety.
“Yeah. Can’t sleep. What about you?” He asks casually. He’s sure she knows he heard her crying and that the evidence is still on her face clear as day. He doesn’t want to push her to talk though. Like him, she’s been reluctant to let her walls down with the rest of the crew. Hell, the two of them are roommates and he thinks they’ve had perhaps four meaningful conversations. It’s not that either of them are unfriendly, they’re both quite cordial, in fact. They’re just not the best at vulnerability.
“Um yeah. Yeah, me neither.” She sniffs again and ducks her head, scribbling something quickly in her journal before slamming it shut.
“See, I can’t sleep just because my body won’t let me. Can’t tell if it’s too much on my mind or something else.” Barry pauses, seeing if she’ll take the bait. She doesn’t, electing instead to pick at her nails. He lets out a breath and says nothing. He shuffles over to the sink and inspects a glass before giving it a little rinse. He sets the glass down and decides to try another angle. “Did Taako say something to upset you? I get it, he can be a little abrasive sometimes but he’s not a bad dude.”
Lucretia looks up at him, a little puzzled. “No? I-I’m confused, I don’t know why you think I’m upset.”
“Lucretia, come on. You don’t have to tell me what’s going on but you also don’t have to deal with whatever it might be on your own. There’s no telling how long this whole thing’s going to go on so I feel like it’s going to be in all of our best interests to, at the very least, be a little more open with each other.”
Lucretia looks away and says nothing. She looks more agitated than she did moments ago.
Barry nods and begins searching around the cabinets. “So my dad died a while ago. Like, a long time ago. I was a baby. My mom died right around when I got to college. I didn’t have a ton of people to lose. Some would say I’m lucky that way. I don’t agree.” He finds a tin of tea and gives it a cursory sniff. He tilts his head in thought before nodding mostly to himself. A shining kettle sits on the counter. Barry fills it before switching on the stove and putting it in place. He clears his throat before continuing. “Uh, my very best friend in the world, Marta, was really the only person I talked to outside the Institute. Well, her and her family. We grew up together. She had a kid, about your age. Smart as shit. Bit of a troublemaker too. Marta and her husband named me the godfather which felt like a lot of responsibility. I mean, I couldn’t even keep plants alive. But I agreed, of course I did.” Barry’s gaze is fixed somewhere in the middle distance. He gives a rueful smile. “I was just at their house for dinner. The night of training I missed? Cap got pissed but I just…something told me to see them. And now I’m really glad I did.”
The kettle whistles and stirs Barry from his recollection. He gets to work prepping two cups of tea. Decaf, of course.
“I had two sisters.”
Barry doesn’t turn back but he pauses what he’s doing.
“Ayda and Rhea. Ayda was twelve. Rhea was six. I lost them. A-and my mom, too. My dad died about seven years ago. Um. My mom was really proud to see that I applied for this mission. Said it was about time I did something for myself. And I was proud of myself. Now I can’t help but wonder if this whole thing was a giant mistake.” Lucretia’s voice wavers and she feels immediately embarrassed. Barry’s the head science officer. He doesn’t want to hear her existential crisis or see the huge cloud of uncertainty hanging over her head.
Barry leaves the cups of tea on the counter to steep and instead joins Lucretia at the table. “I know this whole thing is bizarre and scary. And we’ve all lost a lot, some more than others. But I think, in a kind of twisted way, we’ve all gained a lot, too.”
Lucretia raises an eyebrow at him. “What do you mean?”
He lets out a breath and rests his chin on the palm of his hand. “Well, think about it like this. Magnus, you, and myself. We’ve all found ourselves in a highly unique position. I’d wager you and Magnus even more. See, for humans, each year we live is this precious, sacred thing. We get one hundred of them, max, usually. And we spend the first fifth of our life figuring out how to be a person. And then we spend another fifth worrying that we’re bad at being a person but faking it because we assume that’s what we have to do.” He laughs a little to himself and Lucretia follows suit. “And I haven’t made it through all the next fifth, but based on what I’ve experienced, it’s a lot of boring shit. But you and Magnus, you’re both being given a grace period. You’re in a kind of stasis. You’re learning and experiencing and growing while essentially remaining the same. And I do think you’re being robbed of some of the weirdest joys of humanity but you’re also getting extra time living without your lower back just hurting for literally no reason so it almost comes out even.”
“I have to say, Barry, I didn’t take you for the philosophical type.”
He grins at her. “Don’t tell anyone. Might put my hard science reputation in peril.”
“Your secret is safe with me,” she says solemnly before returning the grin.
Perhaps there’s no true remedy for insomnia. Perhaps there’s no true remedy for loneliness or nostalgia or fear. But if Barry’s figured anything out, friendship, understanding, and a little tea make for good band-aid solutions.

Part 3
Part 1 2
“You call yourself terrible but this, this is beautifully written and I need more.”
“This has got me on the edge!!!! I dont usually like reading series or even multiple parts but dude I wanna read more of it!!!!!!! Are you planning on writing more??? This is so fucking AMAZING”
Warning: Over 3.3k to make up for me sucking.
You felt you had an out-of-body experience. You could see everyone in the control room at STAR Labs, but you were only watching their lips move. No noise was coming out. It was pure silence. You were utterly dazed; you couldn't get the image of Iris crying out of your head. She seemed so helpless, not getting the answers that she wanted. What were you supposed to do? Confess to her that you were the other woman?
A yell snapped you out of your thoughts. Turning your head slightly, you saw Ralph getting closer to you, "Y/N!" Ralph yelled. You covered your ear, wincing at the volume of his voice. You swatted Ralph away from your space, taking a few steps back.
"What is your problem, Dibny?" You mumbled, taking another sip of your coffee. It missed your lips, spilling the hot liquid onto your sweater. You let out a groan, patting the stain in, slamming your coffee cup down on the desk. The group looked at you, not wanting to say the wrong thing; though, Ralph took one for the team.
"I didn't mean to annoy you, Y/N," He explained. Ralph cautioned himself, taking a step towards you, "It's just, now's not the time to be spacing out. You know, with Cicada still out there." You lightly nodded your head, understanding Ralph's point. You rubbed your eyes, letting out a deep sigh.
"I'm sorry, Ralph. I didn't mean to take it out on you," You clarified. You glanced over at Barry, reading his worried look at you. Your heart ached when you locked eyes with him. A flash of Iris appeared, causing you to look away from him quickly. "Iris was over at my apartment last night, talking to me until 4 in the morning, so I didn't get much sleep last night."
You quickly saw Ralph's mood turned from concerned to being unsettled. You waved Ralph away from you, walking towards the doorway. You lifted your hand before letting anyone interject on what Iris was doing at your place. You looked over at them, "She's upset about the whole Nora thing. If you don't mind, I'm going to draft some weapon ideas and run them through Cisco." Cisco gave you a thumbs up, bringing the attention back to the Team, discussing ways to stop the biggest threat to Central City.
You walked by the weapon's room, heading straight to the lounge. You observed the room, seeing some things that Nora had left behind. You slowly made your way to the couch, plopping your heavy body onto it. You leaned your head back, letting out another frustrated sigh. You rethought your night with Iris when you knew you could no longer call yourself a friend anymore.
You brought over a cup of tea, sitting across from Iris. You thought that Iris would be out of tears, crying for an hour, and she still could go on for longer. You bit your thumb, trying to find the right words to say. Not to show concern for her, but to make sure you didn't let anything slip. Iris leaned over, cupping her drink close to her. She looked up at you, her face stained, her eyes puffy.
You grabbed a nearby box of tissues, handing them over to her. You watched as she blew her nose, sniffling the last bit. She collected herself, taking in a deep breath, "I'm sorry you had to watch that," She softly said.
You waved your hand, relaxing your shoulder, "Iris, it's okay. I would do the same if I were in your position." You waited until Iris took some time to drink her tea. You paused at first, not wanting to press on a sensitive matter. The curiosity was eating you alive, taking over, "Iris, why do you think Barry is cheating on you? Have you seen each other? You're the definition of couple goals." You clasped your hand over your mouth, not believing that you just asked her something so personal. Even if it did have to deal with you: you had to act like you didn't know.
Iris lightly laughed. You noticed the cup you gave Iris. It was the exact cup you were going to hand Barry when he interrupted you that night. You grew uneasy, rubbing your mouth and constantly moving your legs. You had to keep reminding yourself to calm down. You couldn't give away any tells.
"He's been more distant lately. He hasn't been relying on me as much. He used to come to me for emotional support; it's what a husband and wife do for each other, but when it came to Nora, he didn't want to discuss her." Iris explained. Her voice cracked, on the verge of crying again. Iris inhaled, calming herself down, trying to force a smile, "He came home this morning, and I don't know how to put it; he just seemed happy."
"Happy?'' You repeated. You furrowed your eyebrows together, shifting yourself on the chair. "How could he be happy? He sent Nora back; I would imagine happy is the last thing he would be feeling."
Iris shook her head, "I thought the same. Granted, I didn't know about Nora until he told me. He came home, all happy, then he informed me that he took her back to the future. I just can't figure him out anymore, Y/N." Iris placed her cup on the table to be able to put her head into her hands.
"I don't know what's going on, Iris. I'm in no place to tell you how to feel, but we need to remember Barry is going through a lot. Not only do we all have Cicada on our hands, but Barry also has to try and figure out Crisis. Then he learned that his daughter is working with the man that killed his mother. It's a lot to take in. We can't predict how someone could handle this type of thing." You tried your best to find a way to excuse Barry's behavior. You cursed under your breath, annoyed at how careless Barry was. You knew you had to speak with him, but you didn't need to grow any more suspicion.
"You're right; we don't know how Barry is handling all of this. Maybe I'm reading too much into this. It's just caught me thinking of so many things because he didn't come home last night. I've been just letting the worst come to mind." Iris confessed. You went over, sitting next to Iris, wrapping your arm around her. You took in a deep breath, having been heartbroken when you heard Iris let out her cries again.
Your stomach turned, remembering last night. Rubbing your face, you couldn't shake the feeling away. You noticed something at the table. A fresh cup of mocha had appeared, from Jitters, with Barry Allen staring down at you. His eyes lit up when they instantly locked with yours, a smile tugging on his lips; you could feel the spark that you both shared.
"Barry, we shouldn't be seen together." You mumbled, reaching over for the drink. You saw Barry shift his weight, but you stop before he could speak, "Iris came over: worried about you. I don't particularly appreciate lying to her, Bear. It would help if you fixed this with her. That's final."
In a blink of an eye, Barry had used his powers on you again. The room reminded you of an insane asylum. White covered every inch of the space. "It's Thawne's hideout," Barry explained.
"That makes sense," You joked, "Only a psycho would have a place like this." You looked around, seeing a stand against the wall, "Is it safe to talk in here?'
"It is," Barry confirmed. He walked over to the stand, hovering his hand over to reveal an artificial face. Barry saw you stiffen up, reaching out a hand towards you, "It's alright. This is Gideon. I created her in the future, and Thawne was using her while he was stuck here."
"Hello, Mr. Allen," The AI spoke, "Hello, Ms. Y/L/N." Your face didn't move. It was still showing the same puzzle expression.
"Gideon, can you pull up the article?" Barry requestion. Gideon pulled up the article that had you all worried.
THE FLASH VANISHES
"Barry, why do I need to see this?" You complained, "We are doing our best to find a way to avoid the crisis." Barry walked over to you, standing behind you. He placed his hands on your shoulder, turning you to face the article. He lowers his head to be close to your ear, trying to have you focus. Focusing: that was the last thing on your mind.
"Look who wrote the article," Barry whispered. You looked up at the name. Gideon zoomed in for you to make no mistake.
"Iris West?" You barely got out. You shook your head, pulling yourself from Barry. You turned to face him, crossing your arms, still in disbelief. "So, what does this mean?"
"That article used to say Iris West-Allen," Barry pointed out. He took steps closer to you while you did nothing to step away. Barry cups your face, rubbing his thumbs along your cheek, "It's now just West. Don't you see Y/N? We get to be together.
"The timeline is changing, just like Thawne explained. We can't stop the way that we feel. We can have a life together." Barry smiled.
"I don't know, Bear. I don't want to start a relationship based on what we did. Based on a lie." You confessed.
"Let me handle it then," Barry assured, "I will tell Iris everything. I will make sure that everything falls on me and that you can still have a friendship in the end." Barry kissed you. A soft and gentle kiss, telling you that everything was going to be okay. You stared at Barry, about to interject. Yet, a familiar flash came into view.
You gripped onto Barry's arm, seeing Nora at the other end of the room. Her eyes flashed red; she was panting, having red lighting come out of every part of her body. You should see the anger flowing through her. You turned Barry around, having him stare at his daughter. Barry reached out behind him, grabbing onto you.
"Nora, I need you to calm down," Barry instructed, stretching a hand out toward his daughter, motioning her to stop in her steps. Barry knew what was happening with Nora. She returned to the present using the negative speed force, rejecting everything he instructed her not to do.
"She's ruining our family," Nora yelled, causing you to wince. Nora looked at her father; disappointment came across her face. "Are we not enough? Was I not what you wanted?" Nora's voice cracked, causing you to have tears form.
"Nora, I didn't mean for it to happen," You plead. Your voice also cracked, feeling the heavy amount of guilt you had with Iris, just growing when Nora had to be the one to find out. You didn't mean for this to happen. You never meant for any of this to happen.
"She has to go, Dad," Nora ordered. She took a step closer, balling her fists, ready to take flight.
"Nora, we can talk about this." Barry tried to calm her. You felt the wind go through your hair. You thought it was Barry thinking quick on his feet, but he could only run for so long until Nora caught up. When you stopped, the figure placed you to your feet, helping you stand.
You quickly spun around, making sure Nora wasn't anywhere near you. "Don't worry. You're safe." The voice answered. You turned to see a young man in front of you, wearing a purple and white suit. "I'll always make sure you're safe." He had appeared to be in his 20s, wearing his hair like a certain Speedster.
"Barry?" You let out softly, confused at what you were seeing.
The young man laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. He showed certain traits on how nervous he was before you: his hands were restless, flicking his fingers at the tip, rubbing his mouth, and biting at the end of his thumb. "You always tell me how much I look like him," He told you. You didn't know what to say; no words were coming out of your mouth. You looked around you, seeing that nothing looked familiar, "You don't know where we are?" He asked you. You slowly look over at him, shaking your head softly.
The young man rubbed his chin, muttering to himself, "Maybe it will happen later." That is what you were able to catch.
"I'm sorry, what?" You rebutted, "Who are you? Where am I?"
"Don't worry! You're still in Central City!" He assured you. You waved your hands as a disagreement.
"That's the last thing I am worried about, as I have an absolute stranger pick me up and take me away from my friends!" You yelled.
The boy placed his hands on his hip, and that instant: you knew where the dots connected.
Your phone rang; seeing it was Barry on the other line, you picked it up, "Y/N! Thank God you're okay!" Barry's voice sent a wave of safety through you. "Where did you go? Who took you?" You closed your eyes, focusing on Barry's voice, taking in deep breaths.
You looked over at the boy, seeing his ears perk. He stared at you, waving his finger at you, "Is that—is that really—" The kid couldn't finish a sentence. His excitement had taken over him.
"We got Nora into the Pipeline. We were able to knock her out with some anesthesia." Barry informed you, "You can come back if the speedster lets you."
You glanced over at the boy, "I don't think he's bad, Bear." You assured him, "I think—I think we know him from the future." You hung up the phone, walking your way over to the eager boy. "Do you think you could take me back to STAR Labs?" You questioned him.
"You serious?" He said. His voice showed the excitement he held, in a flash, taking you back to your previous location.
Your hair was a mess, standing in front of your friends: back in the control room of STAR Labs. Barry didn't think; he went over to you, pulling you into a loving embrace. You lightly tapped Barry's back, whispering to him so that only he could hear, "I'm okay."
Barry pulled himself away, turning to the boy. His face mimicked yours. He scrunched his brows, confused at the sight before him, "Why does he look so much like—"
"You." Cisco finished. Cisco walked over, taking a good look at the boy. He walked around him, examining his outfit and facial features. Cisco placed a hand under his chin, "The resemblance is uncanny."
"A little bit too uncanny," Ralph grumbled, looking over to your direction. You felt your stomach drop as you knew Ralph would quickly catch on to what you figured out.
"Are you here because of your sister?" Caitlyn mentioned, grabbing the boy's attention from you and Barry. He looked a bit confused and shook his head.
"No, Dawn doesn't know that I'm here. If she did, she would have my head," He joked. His smile grew wide, showing more of the Allen gene running through him.
"Dawn?" Caitlyn caught, tilting her head at the thought. "Don't you mean Nora?"
The boy shook his head again, "I think I would know the name of my sister."
You saw Ralph make his way over to you, pulling you to the side, "You need to take that kid away." He ordered you. You continued to stare at Ralph, your sight going over to the kid once and a while, "They may not see it, but it's only a matter of time until they catch on."
The boy wipes his hands on his pants, trying to straighten himself out. The smile he wore was the same smile Barry had. "Where are my manners. My parents did teach them to me," He chuckled, flashing his eyes over to Barry. "I'm Don Allen. I come from the future."
You and Ralph let out an annoyed sigh, quickly covering it up when the rest of the team looked at you. You make your way to Barry, tugging on his arm. Barry looks down at you, raising his eyebrows.
"Bear, we need to get this kid out of here. We need to speak to him alone." You informed him. It took Barry a while, realizing what was happening.
"Hey, Don," Barry spoke up, "How about we don't say anything about the future. We already have Nora in the Vault; we don't need any more future business involved." Don grew confused by Barry's remarks. He was able to read Barry's expression, understanding that nothing else needed to be said.
"Are you here to help us with Cicada? Like Nora was?" Cisco asked. Don looked over at the two of you, reading your worried expressions.
"Yes," Don said slowly; he turned to Cisco, pointing at him with a bit of a chuckle, "That is why I'm here. To help out with your bug problem. Me. Cicada. Yes." He was as awkward as Barry was; it wasn't helping.
Cisco let out a sigh of relief, having a smile on his face, "Great. The more help, the better. I'm close to the cure; we learned that Cicada's powers don't affect Killer Frost. I hope that enough recap for you because we can't waste any more time with this. We are a woman down, so we need all hands on deck!" Cisco clapped, getting everyone's attention. It was a signal to look busy.
Cisco left the room with Caitlyn to continue their efforts in completing the cure. Ralph followed behind. When Ralph was almost out of the room, you could see him mouth you some words: "Fix this!"
Barry waited a few moments, placing his hand along your lower back to guide you out of the control room. Don caught up, but the moment he tried to say anything, Barry placed an index finger to his lips to silence the kid. Barry put his hand on the wall, opening up a door to go back into Thawne's room.
"What are you doing here, Don?" Barry demanded the moment the wall sealed up. Don rubbed his hands, looking at his angry father. His mouth twitched, from going into a frown to just a thin line. "Don, you can tell me."
Don was pacing the room, "I don't understand," Don muttered, looking over his shoulder where the door was. He pointed towards the door, "They don't know?" Don asked both of you. You looked up at Barry, who had the same action, looking back at you. Don went over to you, grabbing your left hand to examine it.
"You're not married?" Don questioned you. You shook your head. Don ran his hands through his hair, getting more and more restless. "This can't be happening," He grunted. He turned to Barry, pointing his finger at the Red Speedster, "Why aren't you married to her?"
"Because he's married to Iris," You informed Don. Don looked over at you, the look of disappointment he had shown. "They've been married for a few years now. We're just friends." You felt Barry's hand resting on your side, his grip tightening. You took a moment, knowing what Don was going to say.
"Mom, you can't be serious," Don finally told you. The moment you knew the truth, you felt your breath leave your body. You felt faint, but with Barry holding onto you, you were able to stand. "You and dad need to be together! My being, Dawn's being, everything is disappearing in the future. You two not being together is destroying the future!"
You turned to look up at Barry. Barry looked at you, still calm over the revelation. Barry had to decide which future he wanted to have and had to choose which one had to go; the very thought made you sick to your stomach.

~17~
Patricia had taken Iris out for groceries after the night she had spent sleeping beside her, stating that she did not care how small Iris was, she needed to eat more in order to be healthy. So, with a fully stocked kitchen and fridge, Iris had parted ways with Patricia after delaying the older woman with a long hug in the doorway of her apartment. Patricia didn’t seem to mind, and had just stroked Iris’s hair as she assured her that they would see one another soon.
Iris knew that she couldn’t be selfish—she couldn’t hold onto her soulmates all hours of the day because they had lives, too. She truly wished that she could; she wished that she never had to let them go.
However, she now had the thought that she could be with them much more; she had, after all, agreed to Patricia’s invitation about having a room made up for her. For her to think about such a drastic change in her life left her feeling old ghosts of panic, but it passed easily as she reminded herself of the comfort and security that came with having her soulmates nearby.
They had talked about it in more depth and Patricia made sure that she was fully aware they were not asking her to leave her apartment. They had no desire to rush her from her home, and only desired to offer her a safe place to sleep on nights when she felt her home wasn’t as safe as it used to be. She wasn’t sure when any of that may actually take place, since Patricia confessed that they had decided on it while she was sleeping, but knowing that it was a possibility in the near future was all she needed.
Standing in her kitchen as she finished the dinner she had picked out with Patricia, her plate scraped clean of any food, Iris looked at her laptop she had placed on the counter in order to read. She rarely used her laptop, not really liking the headaches that came from reading on the screen too much, but this seemed like a good time to bring it out.
On the first tab, information about apartments coming up for rent in her price-range, some saved or bookmarked to come back to at a later date, and the other tab held an article that Fletcher had released on Dissociative Identity Disorder. She knew that the soulmates she had met wouldn’t mind answering what questions she may have, but there were some things that she wanted to know going into a living situation.
Putting her dishes in the sink, filled a few inches with hot, soapy water, Iris picked up her laptop and half-filled mug of tea to take back to her bed and sit down. Crossing her legs and placing the computer in front of her, mug of tea in close reach on the nightstand, Iris returned her focus to the article.
This particular one was written only on the person with D.I.D., lacking anything to do with soulmates, and that was just what Iris was looking for. There wasn’t much information on soulmates of those with D.I.D. to begin with, so she didn’t concern herself too much with it and instead focused on studying the condition itself. She had tried to read other articles she had found, but they never seemed to portray the ‘subjects’ as people. Fletcher spoke of them as humans, and revealed that each identity was in fact their own person.
It wasn’t just someone hearing voices or showing signs of extreme bi-polar disorder; they were truly their own person, unique and different even if they all lived in one body.
Iris fully believed it, and not only because of the evidence provided by her soulmarks. It reminded her of the way each of her soulmates carried a different smell. Patricia had been wearing Barry’s clothes when she came to her, yet she smelled nothing like Barry except for the ghost of cologne that still clung to that material.
One of the things that irritated her with the other readings was also how they brought up treatments, explaining that the alters could be ‘cured’. They didn’t believe that alters were as real as the original identity and were all a part of a mental psychosis. That fact alone had her immediately abandoning those types of articles, always finding her way back to Fletcher’s work instead.
It was disappointing to know that there were so few people who supported Fletcher and her side of the research; from what Iris was reading, she had incredible evidence on her side. Yet she was forgotten in favour of others were went on about how these people could be ‘cured’ because they were sick. Knowing that Kevin had been through something terrible when he was younger, the exact reason that the alters existed, made Iris loathe those who said they were sick.
Kevin wasn’t sick, he was abused and afraid. She knew that feeling; she knew the desire to have something or someone there to protect you from the pain that was happening. The alters saved him, and they continue to protect him every day. You cannot cure fear. You cannot cure memories. You cannot cure a person from within a person. That would be like saying Barry, Luke, BT and Patricia were diseases.
Slamming her laptop closed and pushing it away from herself, Iris released a huff of frustration as she glared at the tiny computer. How dare they? How dare they think that they could ever understand what had happened to those who were abused, those who did all they could to protect themselves.
If anything, the people in the world with D.I.D were better than those without; their minds had done something that no one else thought possible in the past. They had literally become more in order to survive the circumstances which had created them.
“They don’t understand,” she muttered to herself, looking down at her arms to take in the visible marks along her forearms and hand. “They didn’t live through what we did.”
Clenching her marked hand into a fist, she pushed aside the irritation and anger that bubbled inside her chest in favour of focusing on those who she had met so far. There were still so many others there for Kevin—and for her, she was beginning to realize—that it warmed her heart. She wanted to know them all. She wanted to thank them all.
If the alters had not become who they were, there was a likely possibility that Kevin would not have survived to meet her.
For any of them to meet her.
Perhaps…she could help Dr. Fletcher.
These days, soulmarks made everything legitimate. If she were to let Fletcher use her and Kevin—with all twenty-three of his alters—as an example that would prove they were real, that the other identities really existed, maybe they could help others to open their eyes. It would be the most terrifying thing she would ever do, exposing herself to the world in such a manner, but it might just be the way of saving others like her and Kevin in the future.
Sighing as she leaned back into her pillows, head coming to rest on the headboard of her bed, Iris closed her eyes.
It wasn’t going to be an easy decision—she barely came up with the courage to talk with the older woman in the first place. Voluntarily putting herself into view of all those who hate someone like her?
Suddenly, her parents didn’t scare her quite as much.
What would the other people in the world think? She and her soulmates would be hated, hunted and possibly attacked for what they were; for being different. Because the world couldn’t stand those who were different—they didn’t understand them, they feared them, and wanted to remove that which caused so much confusion in their perfect lives.
Collecting her laptop from the bed and placing it safely back in her case, Iris then perched on the end of her bed as she tried to relieve herself of the anxiety building up in her chest. She never thought the day would come that she would be debating on exposing herself so openly to the public.
The ways meeting a soulmate—or soulmates—changed her never really seemed to end.
That was the excuse she used when she found herself standing outside of Karen Fletcher’s office the next day, tugging nervously on the sleeves of her winter jacket as her heart raced in her chest nervously. The older woman was understandably surprised when Iris asked if she could come and see her; stating that she wanted to help in any way she could to bring awareness to those with Dissociative Identity Disorder.
She was left to wait as Dr. Fletcher finished with her previous appointment; such was the curse of always showing up early to things.
The waiting gave her time to regret her decision, but she forced herself to remain where she was and do as she had placed her mind. Strong and sure. That is what her soulmates were making her become, someone who was strong and sure.
The door to Dr. Fletcher’s office opened and Iris respectfully kept her eyes on the window as she listened to the person quietly tell the doctor farewell. Soft heels tapped slowly down the stairs as the other client left, prompting Iris to look over her shoulder to where Fletcher was waiting with a faint smile on her lips. “Come in, Iris.”
Bowing her head in thanks, Iris slipped passed Fletcher and entered the familiar office while she slowly undid the buttons of her coat. “I…I wanted to apologize for how I ran out on you, Doctor. I just-”
“Oh, dear, there’s absolutely no reason for you to apologize to me!” Fletcher rushed to dismiss Iris’s concerns, waving her hands as she moved over to take the chair that she had occupied the last time Iris was there.
Draping her coat over the back of her chair, Iris ignored the glance she received from Fletcher when she exposed herself more than she had the previous visit. Her arms were still covered by longer sleeves, but she had removed the thick, protective barrier of her jacket. Settling into the chair with a faint sigh, Iris couldn’t quite bring herself to relax as she repeated “this is for them” over and over in her head. She was doing this for her soulmates; they were the ones who were thought to not exist.
“I want the world to know they’re real,” she began right away, lacing her fingers above her lap as she met Fletcher’s surprised gaze. “The alters; I want people to stop thinking that they can be ‘cured’ and removed from existence. I want to help people realize that the identities created are real people, just with a shared body.”
Fletcher’s aged face softened with a smile as she lifted a hand to press her fingertips against her lips. “I see that they have changed you, Iris.” Her comment made the younger woman blush, looking away. They had, it was clear to see, even if she hadn’t spoken a single word. “If you don’t mind me asking, how many have you met?”
“Four,” Iris answered. Fletcher knew how many alters there were in Kevin’s body, so she would also be aware of the number of soulmates that Iris had. “Barry, Luke, BT and Patricia.”
Fletcher’s eyebrows went up in surprise, sitting forward in her chair suddenly. “Patricia? How was that meeting? I understand that many people become…unsettled when it comes to meeting a woman in a man’s body.”
A small frown pinched Iris’s expression, but it faded quickly as she thought back to when she had woken up to Patricia at her door. “I was having a nightmare and the others could feel it—the more soulmates I meet, the stronger an emotional connection we have—and Patricia came over and woke me up when she knocked on the door. Having her there was very…comforting. I didn’t have any trouble with the fact that she was an alter in Kevin’s body.”
Fletcher’s smile returned, nodding her head gratefully. Iris truly was perfect as their soulmate.
“Are you sure you’re ready to help them? To do what must be done to help people understand?”
Iris bowed her head a moment, falling silent as she, yet again, considered the other woman’s questions. They were the same ones that she had been asking herself.
“I’ve spent so long being scared; looking over my shoulder and fearing every shadow. I don’t want to do this forever. And…reading up on Dissociative Identity Disorder showed me that they really don’t think that these alters are…real. They think that with therapy and pills they’ll just disappear and I hate the thought of that. But these soulmarks are one thing that they consider…strong. They indicate that these alters are real people.”
Fletcher relaxed back into her seat as she smiled softly at the young woman before her. “Look at you, Iris. You’ve changed.”
I know.
Seeing her begin to fidget, Fletcher was quick to stray from that particular direction of conversation. “If you decide to do this, is can be completely anonymous; no identifying information will be given out. Perhaps if you and the others sign over consent for other professionals to study your situation, but that is entirely up to you.”
“I haven’t spoken to the others about any of this, so I can’t give you an answer for them. However, if you can promise me that it will be anonymous, then I’ll do it.” She closed her eyes as soon as the words left her mouth, forcing herself not to go back on them now.
She was not afraid. She would not hide. This was the decision she had made, on her own and with her own reasons.
“I’m very proud of you, Iris,” Fletcher confessed as she smiled at the younger woman again. Her expression provided the truth to her words; she looked at Iris like a grandmother would, basking in the accomplishments of her family. “And you should be proud of yourself.”
“I am,” she admitted bashfully. “Terrified, but proud.”
Fletcher shuffled toward the edge of her seat, moving closer to Iris as she continued to smile softly. “Talk to them about this, I’m sure they will be happy to support you if this is truly what you want. They’ve been trying to find a way to prove that they are real for a long time. One of the most upsetting things for them is to hear that people don’t think they are alive—real people that can feel emotional pain from the words of others.”
Iris’s face pinched in pain, sorrowed to know that her soulmates were being hurt.
“Is there anything else you would like to speak about while you’re here?” Fletcher prompted gently.
However, as much as Iris had improved since meeting her soulmates, the prompt still had her immediately coiling in on herself like taut spring. “No, that’s alright. Maybe…in time, but not yet.”
Holding up a hand to stall the woman’s hesitant stumbled, Fletcher shook her head. “That’s perfectly fine, dear. I’m not here to push or force. Just know that if there is ever someone you need to talk to, and you don’t want to say it to your soulmates, I will happily lend an ear. Whether you want my opinion or not is up to you. If you just want to talk and let something off your chest, I am here.”
Letting out a long, slow exhale, Iris offered a shaky smile and nodded her head.
Rising to her feet, Iris made up her mind. “I’ll talk to the others first, but I’m sure you’ll be seeing me again soon,” she explained calmly, quietly, as she collected her coat back over her arm and turned to face Fletcher with a soft look in his whiskey eyes.
That look alone told Fletcher that things were changing, and they were for the better. This young woman, as fragile and broken as she was, had a strength inside of her that was necessary for the soulmate for twenty-three separate identities. It was a hidden, buried strength, but it was there all the same. The more time that passed after having met and reconciled with Barry, the more visible that strength became. “I hope to see you again soon, dear. Say hello to the others for me?”
Nodding her head with a peaceful smile, much better than the tense one that had been growing as they spoke, Iris turned for the door. “I will, Dr. Fletcher. Have a good day.”
Once Iris had departed, the older woman leaned back in her chair with a soft and thoughtful hum. If the others supported Iris and they were able to use the soulmarks shared between the two bodies, there was a possibility that favour could finally be tipped in their direction. However, that did not mean that it would not be a struggle for them—especially for Iris. As much as Fletcher thrilled at the thought of solid proof, finally, that others would struggle to argue…she did not want to damage the small woman further.
Proud as she was that Iris was refusing to let her fear rule her, Fletcher was deeply concerned that the fear is also what had kept her safe for so long. Even with her soulmates there, Iris would be in danger of a dark change in her life.
Glancing over to the chair that the young woman had vacated, she could only hope that this would not turn out to be a terrible mistake. As much as she wished to reveal to the world the truth behind all of her years of research, she did not want to do so at the expense of Iris’s happiness and safety, and that of her soulmates.

Jeongin has a very gentle personality when it comes to kids
The shy ones tend to flock to him
His classroom closely resembles a herd of sheep
Just a bunch of baby sheep hiding behind protective mama sheep
Super calm, but someone messes with his kids?
He’ll fuck you up homie
While Mr.Han’s classroom is an explosion of bright colors, Mr.Yang’s is more pastels
Parents are amazed as their kids slowly open up
Seriously, sudden their super shy kiddo has like, five other super shy friends and won’t stop rambling about their cool teacher
Prefers a quieter way of teaching, unlike Jisung
Gentle nursery rhymes, soft blankets, no dance parties
Even though him and Mr.Han are polar opposites, they’re best friends
He calms the excitable teacher, and Han brings out his energy
It’s always funny watching the two classes interact
It’s like watching a sheep and fucking golden retriever interact
When the two classes go to gym?
Mr.Seo is in for a treat
One side of the class is screaming like madmen while running around, their teacher joining them
The other is calmly waiting for instructions on the line
Not that Mr.Han’s class is badly behaved, just… energetic
Mr.Yang just chills in the back of the gym, working on some lesson plans while his kids get their limited energy out
Nap times are the best
He sometimes joins in, but shhh, don’t tell the other teachers
Only Chris knows, and has a million photos of Mr.Yang napping at his desk while his students sleep soundly

A TAZ Cinderella AU
You guessed it, folks, this is the full arc of what my Cinderella!au would have been for the Adventure Zone, if I had the time/inspiration to write the whole thing. Just imagine that all of this is paced out over a bunch of chapters of very pretty words, ok? ;)
That said, enjoy! I’m actually very proud of the thing I concocted in my my head for this!
To begin, a quick run-down of the situation as it stands at the beginning of the fic: Mostly Taakitz-centric, Blupjeans as a side plot. Kravitz is the Crown Prince of Faerun, his mother the Raven Queen current ruler of the kingdom, and him as her only son. Taako and Lup’s parents are both dead, and they live with their mother’s father: their grandfather Tostaada, along with the many aunts and uncles and cousins from Tostaada’s other children.
Tostaada has a house, several days travel (at least) from Neverwinter, a typical country home for the well-to-do. He’s somewhere between gentry and nobility, but his wealth has been in decline, as is often the case in these stories. His mistreatment of Taako and Lup comes from a disdain for their father. And it provides a convenient excuse not to pay servants.
Summary of the arc proper under the cut:
So we begin with a prologue (posted here) in which we see Kravitz and Taako, around the early teenage years (14-ish) and just get a little taste of how different their lives are.
Chapter one (also here) kicks off with Kravitz sneaking out of the castle in the early morning for a ride, musing at how busy he is and how stressful his life is trying to be in charge of a whole kingdom, etc. Upon his return, Barry, the royal head arcanist, and Kravitz’s friend, is waiting for him, and informs him that he has a meeting scheduled this morning with the Royal Council.
The Royal Council was originally meant to be a B plot in the story, something to help drive the thing forward, in part because I couldn’t think of a reason as to why the Raven Queen, who adores her son, would force him into marriage. There had to be an outside pressure. So the council was born.
The council was created during the reign of Kravitz’s grandfather, as a way of giving the people a say and lessening the power of absolute monarchy in Faerun, which was falling out of fashion. That was the intent, but, as we find out in the first chapter, the council is now filled with noblemen who haven’t really got the people’s best interests in mind, at least in Kravitz’s humble opinion, and get a good deal of say over what he does. There was never anything enacted that would allow Kravitz to either disband the council or enact term limits, and now, if he were to put such a thing to a vote, it would never go through.
The original council consisted of: Lord Sterling (Artemis’s father), Jenkins, Gundren & Jack (both recently deceased at the opening of the story), Governor Kalen, and Davenport. I promise this will be relevant later.
So in our first chapter the Raven Queen pulls Kravitz aside after his meeting and tells him, over a very tense tea, that he is turning 25 in a couple of months, and the council, as well as foreign powers, are getting nervous that he has no martial prospects yet, and as the Raven Queen has no other relations to carry on the monarchy in Kravitz’s stead, they kind of need to get a move on. Having it so that the Royal line could die out any minute isn’t great for cultivating confidence in the people of your kingdom.
Kravitz is understandably upset, being the romantic that he is (I love him), and he wants nothing less than to be married as the result of some political power play. And yet, there is low probability, at least in his mind, that anyone that will be “suitable” according to his mother, the council, and the people both in Faerun and abroad, will be anyone that he will even remotely like. But what can he do? He agrees to begin the process of finding a spouse at this year’s Harvest Ball, which will coincide closely with his 25th birthday.
Barry is actually the one that gives Kravitz the idea of throwing the doors open to the whole of Faerun, and Kravitz, seeing it as an opportunity to meet men who aren’t stuffy nobles he hates, strikes a bargain with his mother: a masked ball, three nights long. Kravitz will not know (in theory) who is wealthy and powerful and who is not, and will be able to choose at his discretion someone that he would like to pursue. Shockingly, the Queen agrees.
*~*~*~*~*
SMASHCUT to Tostaada’s country home. We see Lup and Taako going about their morning routine, making breakfast for the family, lighting the fires in the hearth, generally working their asses off. Mid-breakfast, there’s a knock at the door, one that Taako goes to answer. (This is a no-no. He’s meant to be more of a behind-the-scenes servant, Lup being the one who is seen. She’s slightly more favored by Tostaada. Taako is hated. But Lup is in the middle of something, so...) It’s a letter from the Raven Queen, an invitation actually, to the family Taaco, to come to Neverwinter for the three-night Harvest Ball.
The Queen’s intentions of finding her son a husband are not directly stated, but Tostaada is a shrewd, terrible old man, and it does not take him a moment to catch on. The family packs up, Taako and Lup and all, and heads to Neverwinter, the ball two weeks away.
While they’re packing, Lup pulls Taako aside and tells him her plan. They’ll be in Neverwinter for almost two weeks, ball included. And the whole kingdom will be swarming to the city for this, it will be more crowded than ever, and therefore will give them the perfect opportunity to run away from Tostaada. He’ll be so preoccupied he’ll never be able to track them down in the chaos of this event. Taako hesitates for just a second before he’s on board. They’ll run away mid-ball, when the family is gone, and by the time Tostaada realizes anything, it’ll be too late.
*~*~*~*~*
SMASHCUT back to Krav, chilling in the palace, it’s now two weeks before the ball (around the same time that Taako and co. get the letter, actually,) and preparations are well underway. During another busy day of overseeing some of the prep for the upcoming Massive Festival (TM), Kravitz runs across Captain Davenport, just returned from a long stint at sea.
They have a conversation about the state of affairs in the kingdom, Kravitz expressing his frustration at not only the ineptitude but corruption on the council, and his worries about this marital plan. He knows that Lord Sterling is going to throw his son Artemis at him relentlessly, but he hates the kid, and wants nothing to do with him, etc.
Davenport merely expresses that he has faith in Kravitz’s ability to turn it all around and make for a good king. That the recent loss of Gundren and Jack and the dragging on of the council replacing them doesn’t bode well, but that he needs to see the thing through.
He unfortunately agrees with the rest of the council, however, that Kravitz needs to be married, and soon. There’s only so long they can go dragging this out. Kravitz sees the sense in this and agrees, albeit reluctantly. At least he has the opportunity to find someone he actually likes.
Meanwhile, Taako, Lup, Tostaada and the family have arrived in Neverwinter and will be staying in a fine manor house in the upscale residential part of the city, and the family immediately sets out to find tailors and seamstresses who can get them all dressed up for the inevitable ball. The house is in shambles on the inside, the only way Tostaada could get it cheap, and Lup and Taako spend the afternoon trying to fix it up to live-able standards and clean it enough so that should the family be called upon, they’ll at least look respectable.
In the meantime, no one is home, and they begin to plan their escape.
They plan it for the third night of the ball. Tostaada will be furious if they leave sooner, being left with no servants to assist any upcoming nights. The third night, once the family leaves for the party, they’ll be in the clear. If Tostaada manages an advantageous match for any one of the cousins, he won’t bother with Taako and Lup anymore, and get better servants. It’s highly likely that in the next two weeks he’ll make several matches, so after the party is done they should be as safe as possible given their plan.
*~*~*~*~*
Everyone spends a week getting ready.
Istus, friend of the Raven Queen from a neighboring kingdom, arrives to the palace. She will be staying for the celebration, and for a while on either end. She and the Raven Queen have a conversation, in which the Raven Queen expresses her anxiety about the upcoming matchmaking process for her son. She does not want his marriage to end up like hers (loveless, purely political). She asks Istus if she will use some of her divination skills to look into the future. Istus agrees, and it is clear that she sees something very intriguing in Kravitz’s future. She does not say what it is, but she assures her Majesty not to worry.
The day of the ball arrives.
Now by some trick of fate, one of the cousins has received the wrong suit by accident, and Lup simply must go to the tailor and send it back, and retrieve the one he was supposed to receive at any cost. So Lup goes, and Taako doesn’t think much of it until she bursts back into the attic that evening, two garment bags in her hands. She says that there was a mistake, and that a noble man and woman didn’t pick up their garments for whatever reason; the week has been so chaotic anyway, and there was talk of them falling ill and being unable to attend the ball tonight, and the woman at the tailor shop felt so bad about the mistaken order she offered to alter them to fit Tostaada’s family for free, as a sort of “so sorry about the mistake” thing, and Lup said she would just take them, and isn’t it exciting Taako, we can use these and go to the ball tonight!
Taako is reluctant to accept this plan, but Lup says they’ll only go one night, just to see the spectacle, and then they can be home for the other two and prepare to run away, and besides, they’re starting a new life and this will be a fun way to kick it off, and the outfits even come with masks, Taako, please?
Taako finally relents, and they spend the rest of the afternoon getting the cousins ready to go to the ball themselves, along with the aunts and uncles and Tostaada himself, who is in one of his moods. It’s awful, but they finally get a moment away, and they sneak up to the attic to pull out their garments...
And they get caught. Tostaada never comes upstairs, but he was calling for them, one of the cousins having forgotten a brooch or something, they weren’t answering, and when he comes upstairs and sees them, he takes the garments, drags the twins downstairs, and lets the cousins laugh at them until they’re in tears, and the family rip the dress and the suit to shreds.
The thought that they would even show themselves is so repulsive to Tostaada, and he gets angry at the presumption of it all, and he locks them downstairs in the kitchen for the duration of the evening, the door swinging shut behind him with a heavy clang.
Lup is furious, Taako more resigned, as the house quiets with the eventual departure of the family.
An hour passes with them sitting in the kitchen under the house, Lup cursing her luck. If not for her stupid idea to go, they wouldn’t be in here, locked in, and they could work on their preparations to leave two nights hence. But now they’re completely useless.
The latch on the door to the outside of the house, the small yard in the back with the meager kitchen garden, comes undone, and swings open of its own accord.
A woman is there. Or at least it looks like a woman; she is cloaked, head to toe, even her face obscured, but there’s a shimmer in the air around her that they recognize immediately as magic.
Taako and Lup have been learning magic, little by little. Taako stole a book from the village a little over a year ago, but it’s slow going, especially with Tostaada always trying to catch them doing something “indecent.”
They’ve never seen anything like this.
The mysterious woman tells them she heard Lup’s frustrated shouting while walking by and wanted to see if they needed any help. Once they thank her for letting them out, she asks them why they haven’t decided to go to the ball; two young people like them at home on a night like this seems strange. Lup scoffs, says they thought about going for a moment, but they have nothing to wear.
Istus (for by now the reader surely knows it is Istus) cocks her head and says that that won’t do, will it? And raises her hands.
And in a moment their clothes are transformed, and Lup is dressed in a gorgeous gown in reds and golds, and feathered mask is on her face, and Taako’s in a finely made suit, his mask vaguely rodential. And the woman says that now they are well-suited for a ball. Taako and Lup are just gaping at her, but she shoos them along. Go, she says, and Taako feels a peculiar prickle up his spine when she tells them, when she tells him, it feels like, to amuse himself, to have a good time, to meet new people.
She warns them that while her magic is powerful, which is evident, it is sensitive to time. Wherever they are, at the stroke of midnight, the magic will fade, and their appearances will revert to what they were before.
Lup and Taako, wanting to go only for a few laughs and to spite Tostaada, say that this is more than enough time.
And they go.
When they arrive at the palace, it’s positively swarmed with people. They agree to meet by the front doors at a half hour before midnight, giving them plenty of time to get out without being seen.
And they go in.
They’re being jostled on all sides, and well, as much as they’d like to stick together it doesn’t really work out that way, and before he knows it, Taako is in the midst of a ballroom looking for Lup, and following the flow of the crowd -
And suddenly he’s face-to-face (or, well, mask-to-mask) with a very handsomely dressed man with a skull for a face.
A skull mask, to be exact, all silver and gold filigree and done up with rubies and diamonds, and his suit is fine, dark velvet in rich blacks and deep, deep reds, and he bows and Taako does, too, because he feels as though it’s the thing to do, and when the man straightens up he and Taako trade the typical small-talk befitting a prince and his guest (because, Taako realizes, with as many people seem to be looking at them, that is surely who this must be), and Taako says something witty that makes Kravitz laugh which I will not write here, because this is a summary, which means all I have to do is say when the jokes happen; I don’t actually have to write them.
Long story short, Kravitz pulls off his mask, and he asks Taako to dance.
The anonymity Kravitz was hoping to be afforded by throwing a masked ball has not really panned out. Everyone can tell exactly which mask the prince is behind, and once the receiving line began to form, there was really nothing for it. He likes the Mongoose-masked stranger, though, and would very much like to know him better. And so what if he’s abandoning the rest of the line? He’s the prince, thank you very much, and he can do what he likes.
Taako is sold the moment the prince pulls his mask off, because the prince is hot, and Taako feels rather gorgeous himself, and maybe this is the first night in a while that he’s had any kind of serious fun and he’s feeling a bit reckless, so he pulls his mask off too and they have a dance.
Or two.
Or three, talking all the while.
After the third, the prince bows respectfully and says he must see to his other guests, but that he hopes to see Taako again, and Taako, maybe just a little flustered, wanders over to the food.
Meanwhile, Lup entered the ballroom, having gotten a bit lost on the way in, shortly after the fateful meeting itself and what does she see but her brother, unmasked, dancing with a man who is most unmistakably the prince.
Which is really just perfect, isn’t it?
She pouts for a minute because one beautiful elf will hardly draw any attention in this crowd, except Taako’s dancing with the crown prince, so every eye in the assembly is fixed upon him, and seeing an identical twin will definitely lead to some word getting around. So Lup is confined to remaining masked for the duration of the ball.
Which isn’t so bad, since she was expecting that, after all, but neither is she looking forward to it.
She skirts the edge of the ballroom, finds her way to some refreshment tables, and she’s lucky her mask leaves most of the bottom half of her face free as she nibbles on the hors d’oeuvres set out and generally enjoys the spectacle. She is propositioned to dance a few times but after the prince removes his mask a large portion of the assembly does as well, and Lup rather sticks out for keeping hers on.
She isn’t given much more attention, then, as all of the other people around seem to write off the mask as a wish to stay hidden and therefore ignored, and while they aren’t wrong, Lup isn’t enjoying the ball half as much as she thought.
And then things go from bad to worse.
Some moron completely knocks into her and sends her drink, a strong red wine, all down the front of her, granted, magical and temporary, but very nice dress.
Lup’s going to be mad, but the man is so sweet about it, stammering his apologies, and completely red in the face and, frankly, such a dork that she really can’t be mad, and he does about some ridiculous business about trying mop up the wine and it’s completely hopeless, and Lup is bored -
So she tries casting prestidigitation on the stain.
And, somewhat to her surprise, it works.
This catches the man’s attention, who immediately straightens up and starts asking her questions about where she’s learned magic, and what other spells she knows, and what her name is. Lup, in a moment of impulse, introduces herself as Lady Lulu, which she cringes at immediately but sticks with. And the man is nice to talk to, and interesting, and apparently an expert in the arcane, which Lup is thrilled about. Out of all these people she ran into someone actually interesting.
At one point, she invites the man to dance, but he refuses, a bit awkwardly. He says he’s not very coordinated, but he wouldn’t mind taking a walk, if she wouldn’t mind either? Lup is going to say yes, but upon glancing at the clock, sees that it’s almost eleven-thirty, and tells him she has to go.
Taako, meanwhile, has danced with Kravitz twice more, and chatted a bit, and when he tries to extricate himself from his Highness’s presence Kravitz seems genuinely disappointed to see him go, and asks him if he’ll be back tomorrow night.
Taako, suddenly overcome with something that makes him want to make this man smile, says yes.
And then he goes to meet Lup at the front.
They head home, making their way through the streets which are not quite as crowded as the palace was, but are still significantly busy, as those who felt they would not be at home in the palace have taken to celebrating the harvest ball in the streets. Lup and Taako make it home unnoticed, and they chat a little bit about what they saw and what they did, and when Lup teases Taako about the prince, he’s unusually quiet. This worries Lup a bit, but she doesn’t press further.
Their clothes transform when they’re about 3/4 of the way home. When they arrive, they figure they have a few hours until the family gets home to begin making preparations for their escape. Around three, they shut themselves back up in the kitchen. Lup manages to find, from the outside, a way around the locked door that i haven’t decided on yet, because this is just a summary.
Wash, rinse, repeat. The twins are on their best behavior the next day as Tostaada and co. sleep through the morning, having been up late the night before, and while no one comes to call that afternoon, Tostaada still has high hopes for a match. Lup and Taako are locked in the kitchen, manage to get out -
And now, Taako has been nervous all day having promised the prince he would be back, and surprisingly, quite wanting to see him again. He’s pacing the floor when Istus arrives, transforms their clothes, and sends them off.
Lup is more than a little skeptical about this magic woman, but Taako wants to go, so she goes, and tries to put the bizarre-ness of it out of her mind.
Taako goes to the ball, meets up with Kravitz, and this time Kravitz doesn’t leave his side all night. Lup wanders around, still masked, until she runs into Barry again (not literally this time) and makes good on that walk in the gardens he asked her for last night. They both make it to the gates again by eleven-thirty, and make it home.
This night, however, something tips Tostaada off. Maybe it’s the way Taako moves, or maybe it’s his own paranoia, but something happens at the ball that makes him suspicious. I will not hash out what it is at this time because, again: Summary.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Istus, on the third night, gives Taako his most fabulous ensemble yet, a beautiful thing in deep blue and silver and gives him jewelry set in sapphires and, you guessed it, pink tourmaline (because I’m predictable). Including, most importantly, a pair of bracelets. As Lup is locking up the kitchen to go, Istus pulls Taako aside and hands him the bracelets, and tells him that they will not dissipate at midnight. She hints vaguely at Taako and Lup’s plans to go away after the ball is over, tells him to consider the bracelets a gift. They are two of a kind, she tells him, and perhaps they will fetch a price.
Taako does not know why this woman knows so much about their life, but he’s eager to get to the party, accepts the bracelets, and before he can ask her more, she’s gone.
They head out to the ball for the third time.
It is this night that we get the majority of the material between Taako and Kravitz. Kravitz, this time, is waiting right inside the door to the ballroom, and when Taako arrives he is immediately swept up by the prince into a dance. Although, after a few hours of dancing and eating and generally enjoying themselves in the ballroom, they take a walk in the gardens.
Meanwhile, it is at this time that we get the scene where Barry has been chatting Lup up, quite obliviously, and finally he asks her if she’d like to see his lab, unable to take it anymore, he’s so excited that someone’s interested in his work. Lup, of course, thinks it’s a come-on, as discussed here, but upon going up to Barry’s tower lab she realizes that he actually, genuinely was inviting her up to look at his research which is just... too cute.
Meanwhile, Taako and Kravitz are taking a stroll through the extensive terraced palace gardens, talking all the while and the both of them are just... enamored. Taako feels beautiful and important for the first time in a long time and it’s wonderful. Kravitz has found someone interesting and gorgeous and wonderful, and it’s just... too much. It’s hard to write in short form here that they’re in love, but they like... are. Just trust me. Not fully, because it’s only been a few meetings, a few nights, but there’s something there. There’s a pull that they haven’t felt before, and feels somehow beyond them.
They wander, and the gardens are beautiful, and the moonlight is beautiful, and they end up on a sort of terrace, secluded by trees, and the sea is down below them and they dance again, just the two of them, and then there’s kissing and it’s all very romantic, I promise. There’s a scene from it here.
Then the clock strikes midnight.
And Taako panics.
The time got away from him, he got distracted, and he tries to run, but Kravitz catches his hand and he’s begging Taako to stay but Taako can’t, because Kravitz doesn’t know what’s going on here.
He thinks fast. He unclasps one of the bracelets and places it in Kravitz’s hand and says so fast that if Kravitz wants to see him again he can look for him and Taako will have the other bracelet ok bye and then he runs.
He barely makes it out of the palace in time.
But of course, by this time, Lup is not at the front gates. They planned out a fallback location, less conspicuous, if one of them got held up, and Taako is already late, and he gets there as fast as he can, and Lup is pissed.
(she’s mostly just worried).
She kind of goes at him for being late but Taako just says he lost track of time, and whatever that feeling is in his voice makes Lup back off. She’s never heard Taako sound like that before. She lets it go, but she’s more worried than before.
They make their way home, ready to pick up their packs and run like they were planning. But they open the door to the kitchen, and there’s a thud, and a candle lights, and Tostaada is there, the contents of their packs spread out before him, and absolute fury in his eyes.
It’s awful. After his suspicion, he saw Taako enter the ball tonight. And knew it was him. And he was furious. He came home, headed them off, and yells at them something fierce, locking them in separate closets to deal with them, because they can’t be trusted to be together, they’ll scheme. (Some of the cousins, by the way, are here for this, because fuck the cousins).
They try desperately to break out. Banging on the door, trying to bust out the doorknob, to cast something on the door to unlock it, but they’ve been going three days only getting a couple hours of sleep a night. It finally hits them how exhausted they are. After a while, there’s nothing they can do.
Now you may say to yourself “this is awfully convenient.” And you would be right. But it’s also a fairytale, and this is a summary of a fairytale, so there.
Tostaada, because he fucking sucks, finds some way to separate the twins. Probably something along the lines of dragging Taako out of his “cell” and being like guess what I’ve always hated you and I’m a real bastard so you’re working for this shady caravan now, have a good time. Taako is Not Down to be separated from his sister but he’s also like hey fuck you to Tostaada and is going to dip from that caravan in about 30 seconds so he’s like yeah have a nice life, too, dickweed.
He slips away from the caravan in like... a day. Fuck those guys. He’s gonna go back and get Lup.
And just a bit later, Lup gets let out of the closet, and finds out that Taako’s gone. And she goes fucking berserk. She casts her first fireball (yes I know that’s now how it works in DnD but shhhhhhh it’s fine).
She burns Tostaada’s fucking dumbass city house to the ground. And Tostaada and the cousins are panicking but Lup is honestly like fuck the cousins, and she slips away in the chaos. Fuck Tostaada. Fuck the family. Lup’s going to go find her fucking brother.
*~*~*~*~*
We haven’t checked in on Kravitz in a hot minute, but he’s been completely smitten with Taako from the moment he met him, and has been saying as much to Mama Bird herself, the Raven Queen, who has been... a little less than stoked. She is skeptical because this isn’t going exactly as planned, and on top of that, Kravitz hasn’t even learned this man’s name. He’s an absolute enigma, and Raven worries not only that this man will potentially not be a good asset to the kingdom, but he also might not turn up and completely break Kravitz’s heart.
But Kravitz stands firm. The Queen said he could make his choice, well, he’s going to. He’s going to go after this guy.
...Or so he thinks. See, the Royal Council, as in all things, gets their say. And they’re not happy with this. Generally disapproving when Kravitz tries to make his own decisions, they say absolutely not to his wish to search for Taako. Raven tries to help by talking them down from letting them handle the search and keeping Kravitz in the capital to letting Kravitz go himself but only giving him a few months time. If he hasn’t found Taako by then, he’s going to have to call off the search altogether and look for another match.
It’s not good, but it’s something. Kravitz takes his bracelet and begins seeking out every elf in the land who even vaguely matches Taako’s description.
*~*~*~*~*
The elf in question is, at this point, on his own. Meeting up with your sister when you have no idea where she is and she has no idea where you are, and you’re running back and forth and missing each other, well. It’s difficult.
It takes them a little while to get back together, and I’m sure there are plenty of minor trials and tribulations along the way. I won’t go into them all here, because this is a summary.
*~*~*~*~*
Kravitz is on the move, looking for Taako. He searches and searches and comes up with nothing. It’s been two months. It’s almost the height of winter. He’s running out of his allotted time for his search. And that’s when it happens.
He’s riding through this one town, a ways from the capital, when he sees, there, out of the corner of his eye, a flash of silver and blue and maybe some pink, and he turns his head, and there’s the bracelet. The one Taako gave him.
But it’s not on Taako’s wrist.
Kravitz calls for the guards travelling with him and they stop the woman and they question her as to where she got that bracelet. She says that she bought it off a travelling salesman, and seems rather embarrassed about it. She’s reluctant to give it up, having bought it fair and square, but Kravitz pays her, and gets it back.
Kravitz is, of course, heartbroken. Taako said he would have the other bracelet. He told Kravitz to look for him. He said to look for him. If he gave it up, if he sold it, does it mean he doesn’t want to see Kravitz again after all?
Kravitz wants answers for a minute. But then he listens to reason. Or so he thinks. Discouraged, he returns to the capital, as per Lord Sterling’s suggestion.
Many people and things are trying to keep these two apart. It is at this point that these forces begin to win.
So he goes home, in time for the first snow to cover Neverwinter.
*~*~*~*~*
What Taako and Lup are up to in the meantime:
It’s pretty close to canon in that they mostly hop from job to job, and caravan to caravan, taking odd jobs and cooking and making their way. And it’s hard. It’s really hard. But something about it is good. This is the first time they’ve had, maybe in their whole lives, to just be in charge of themselves. They’re deciding their own destiny now.
Lup can see that Taako is different. Something has changed. The news that the prince is looking for him isn’t a secret at all, so she keeps a careful eye on him for how he feels about that. She brings it up a few times that maybe they could come forward in their own way, maybe let people know that he’s out there, but Taako keeps shutting her down before she can really talk about it.
As for Taako, he’s more than thrilled to finally be free of Tostaada, and to have his sister back after a few months of absence. But the whole thing at the ball and with Kravitz is... weighing on his mind.
I should explain the bracelet fiasco.
See, Taako and Lup returned from the ball, and the whole thing with Tostaada went down. Of course, while he was deciding what to do with Taako he confiscated the bracelet, and sold it off a bit later for whatever he could get. This is how it was able to travel so far from where Taako actually is; the jewelry seller went one way, Taako another, and Tostaada and the family, when they finally left Neverwinter, a third.
This is all running through Taako’s mind of course. It would be nice for Kravitz to find him, sure, but Taako was the one who set up the system of verification through the bracelet. Without it, what credibility does he have? And sure, maybe Kravitz will recognize him, but what if he doesn’t? It was dark, and it was only a few nights, and -
Anyway, Taako’s not going to worry about it. He’s fine, really, and it was only a few nights anyway, and what does he care about the dumb old prince. It’s not like Kravitz said he wanted to marry him. He just said he wanted to see him again. What the hell does that mean? And it’s not like Taako was the only one he spent time with at the ball.
Basically our sweet boy is snackin’ on a big slice of denial pie and it’s very sad.
Taako is saying that he doesn’t care whether he sees Kravitz again or not, but Lup can tell something is wrong. She suggests that they stick around in Faerun, work for the winter, and come spring, they’ll head out. They’ll hitch their way with the caravans, and work their way over the border. New country, new life. Leave all that Tostaada shit and everything behind.
Taako’s on board. They find themselves a job cooking and occasionally tending the bar at an inn, not a gross one but not the fanciest either. They’re going to work up some money, and they’re going to hit the road.
But back to Kravitz.
*~*~*~*~*
Kravitz is back home at the palace in Neverwinter. The first snow on the not-very-aptly named city makes traveling difficult. If Kravitz hadn’t already given up the dream of Taako, it would well and truly be impossible to find him now. No one in their right mind would send a search party out in the winter months.
So he’s essentially on house arrest.
And so begins the parade of potential partners. Everyone knows about the ball. Everyone knows now that the plan of having the prince find a partner there was a colossal failure. Every young and eligible nobleman in the capital who is even remotely interested in men gets thrown at this boy. Artemis Sterling most of all, a spoiled brat of a boy, who, when he’s not being absolutely appalling to people is boring them to death.
Kravitz is fucking miserable.
Does this make him think of Taako? Yes. Does he miss him? Absolutely. Does it only twist the knife of heartbreak in this boy who thought he had found someone good and then that person gave him up? 100 percent.
Kravitz is ready to jump off the cliffs out back the palace into the Stillwater Sea and swim to a new country when the word from Raven’s Roost comes.
Rebellion! Against Kalen, of all people! How could it be?
(Kravitz has hated Kalen for a while, but this certainly is a pickle).
Kalen is ousted, arrives in Neverwinter half-frozen and fuming, a few cronies on his tail, and chaos in the palace ensues. Who to believe? Kalen, who claims he has been unfairly attacked, or the people, claiming Kalen’s long-term abuse.
It all shakes out somehow. This is a summary, though, so I don’t have to say. Julia does something badass. Also she’s not dead. She and Magnus show up in the capital and there’s the whole them vs Kalen before the Raven Queen fiasco and finally she chooses the good people as the correct ones and Kalen is thrown in prison or banished or something lol idk.
And now there are... 3 positions on the royal council empty and it is essentially non-functioning. The kingdom is in governmental crisis. Magnus and Julia are at the palace. This whole rebellion/trial thing has taken most of the winter months.
Barry and Magnus become fast friends, which of course puts Magnus into Kravitz’s orbit more than the Kalen ordeal already has. And they begin talking. And at the prompting of Magnus and Julia being so in love, Taako of course comes up.
Magnus is all omg wow buddy that’s true love u gotta pursue that, and Kravitz is like ok but also consider he probably doesn’t even like me, and also it’s impossible, and also I can’t. To which Magnus says umm how do you know, and also bullshit, and also why not?
And why not indeed?
Well, Barry says, perhaps because the government is in shambles and to abandon everything now would almost certainly trigger all kinds of issues amongst the aristocracy, upon whom your hold is currently tenuous at best.
Kravitz says >:((
And then along comes Merle.
Merle comes moseying up the palace one day like hey guys how’s it goin’ I’m Merle, and the [PLACE WHERE GUNDREN WAS FROM] sent me here to be Gundren’s replacement on the Royal Council, after all I am his cousin, don’t’cha know, and sorry it took us so long, we had some issues to work through. He does not explain what these were, nor does he have to, for this is a summary.
Merle’s addition is a real gamechanger, because not only is he miraculously able to neutralize the more antagonistic personalities on the council (usually through saying something Kravitz can’t decide is crazy or profound), but also he’s a big advocate for let’s get things up and running again, starting with just replacing Kalen with one of these two nice people who Raven’s Roost seems to have elected to represent them.
Magnus goes “oh well I don’t know this is a lot of responsibility-” and before he’s even done talking Julia’s like “I’ll fuckin’ do it.”
This, of course, gets the council running, and, importantly to our plot, creates a majority of people who Want kravitz to Go After A Boy. They work on cleaning up the mess in Raven’s Roost, finally find a replacement for Jack (it’s Cassidy, also by election, which is a shiny new toy for these people) and they iron all of it out by the time Spring has sprung.
Kravitz says now can I go Find A Boy PLEEEAAAAASE I did the governing thing and everything. And most people’s reactions are omg I can’t believe you’re still talking about that but Fine. Take some friends. Kravitz takes Barry and Magnus and (mumble mumble some others idk like avi or someone don’t @ me) and is like BYE MY CONFIDENCE IS RESTORED AND I’M GONNA FIND A BOY.
*~*~*~*~*
So Spring Has Sprung.
Which means Lup and Taako are back on the move. Continuing their slow journey out of Faerun, working on their way (it’s nice to have money saved up, they find, but it’s not A Lot, and they don’t want to totally deplete it.) They usually stop for a week in a town, do some odd jobs, travel, stop for a week. It’s nice.
But they’re on the way OUT OF THE COUNTRY *cue dramatic music*
Will Kravitz Reach Them In Time? If he does, will Taako even Want To Go Back? All these questions and more exist at this point in the narrative.
*~*~*~*~*
Kravitz follows the lead of the bracelet. He does not stop for a week in towns. In fact, he’s pushing pretty hard. He tracks down the woman who points him to the seller who points him to Another travelling seller who points him to a jeweler in town who looks at the bracelet and says oh yeah, I got that from Old Man Tostaada, outside of town, he’s a proud type, but you should ask him.
Well. Kravitz certainly does.
In the nearly six months since Taako and Lup slunk and exploded out of his life, respectively, Tostaada has become an even crochetier, nastier, meaner old man than ever. He has no servants now. The cousins have to do chores, oh the horror. He’s propping his appearance of nobility up on pride alone. The house is in Shambles. It’s a whole Thing™️.
But one fateful springy day, one of the cousins looks out the window…
And Sees An Entire Royal-insignia’d Party Riding Up The Lane.
And promptly Panics.
Well Kravitz and co are ushered into the house with all kinds of Ceremony, and Tostaada is acting very proud, and Kravitz says excuse me sir, I was wondering if you might remember being in possession of this bracelet.
This is Bad News to Tostaada.
I may recall, sir, he says.
There’s a terribly polite and tense conversation after that. Tostaada refuses to say where he got the bracelet, even to royalty, being as old and spiteful as he is, and Kravitz is just about to threaten him with something terrible when one of the cousins breaks, and spills the whole story tearfully, about Taako and Lup and how they were treated and where Tostaada got the bracelet and “we didn’t know you wanted it, we didn’t know it was important, we swear,” and the only thing that keeps Kravitz from Severely Punishing them is that he refuses to waste any time getting to Taako, who he’s very keen to find now. Tostaada has no idea where Taako and Lup are now, though, so he wasn’t helpful in that sense. Only now Kravitz knows that they’ve Been The Fuck Through It, and that Taako didn’t give up the bracelet of his own accord, and so it’s possible that The Boy Still Likes Him.
And with renewed energy, off they go.
Tostaada gets stripped of whatever title he has left, or something, because FUCK him.
Kravitz and the gang are putting out the word that hey, we’re still looking for this elf, if anyone’s seen him, that would be great.
The thing is, this time, they’re getting leads, on account of Lup and Taako sticking around in places long enough to make a friend or two.
*~*~*~*~*
It’s later, and almost Summertime, baby, when Lup and Taako finally hear the news.
The prince is still looking for Taako? Damn. Boy’s serious.
Lup watches Taako’s face carefully when they hear this news. They’re leaving town. They only have one more before they reach the border and slip away. Lup says hey. Are you sure you don’t wanna come forward and say something?
Taako’s like no of course we shouldn’t do that don’t be silly it’s FINE. (It’s not fine, Lup can tell, but she’s not gonna push. This is Taako’s decision to make. They’re gonna make a fresh start in a new place. It’ll be great.
They start hiking to the next town, hobbit style. They make it out into ye woods and find a nice spot to settle down and camp. Make up a fire, get cozy, cook a little dinner, the whole shindig. They settle down to sleep.
Taako wakes up. In the middle of the night. The full moon is shining brightly down into the clearing they’re sleeping in and the fire is no longer the softly smoldering embers it was when he fell asleep. It’s nice crackling along. And sitting there, tending it, is a lady.
Lady is the only way to describe her. She’s in a gown of silvery thread with silvery hair tumbling down her back. She asks Taako if he’d like some tea. He can’t tell if the light in the clearing is from the moon, or the fire, or just from her. She speaks with a voice that just sounds so familiar, but that he doesn’t quite place.
She hands Taako a cup of tea. It’s floral and fragrant and lovely. She asks him what he’s running from. He says she sounds awfully condescending talking like that, and if she knew what he’d been through she wouldn’t act like leaving it all behind was such a bad decision. She says she never said it was a bad decision, she just wonders how much he’s thought about it, is all. There’s a quiet moment, as she sips her tea. She says, quietly, that perhaps Taako ought to be careful, not to run too far too fast.
And taako wakes up again. There’s a teacup sitting beside him. Empty. Clean. There’s no sign that there was any visitor in the night.
To Lup, Taako is acting weird the next day. He seems jumpy. He seems distant. She keeps worrying they’re gonna get jumped on the road, from the way he’s not paying attention to his surroundings. He’s in his head, even more than usual. But they manage to arrive to the next town without incident.
And Taako’s weird over the next few days. And Lup suggests on the fourth that they get a move on. There’s a caravan headed across the border tomorrow, we can go with them.
Taako looks at the drink in his hand for a long moment, not there with her, and she’s about to ask again when he says “maybe just a few more days.”
Taako doesn’t ask her for much. Taako seems very serious, and it’s kind of scaring Lup. But she agrees. A few more days is fine. Then they’ll go.
And a few days pass. And Taako’s weird. He keeps looking around corners like he’s expecting something to jump out from around them. He keeps looking down the street like he expects something to come barreling into town. But nothing ever seems to.
Come on, Taako, Lup says, three days later, while Taako’s dropped over a cup of wine in the local inn. Tomorrow some more people are leaving, mid-afternoon, they said, let’s go. Just over those hills and we can start everything over, make a name for ourselves. What do you say?
And Taako agrees.
They go to bed.
And, in the bright-mid morning the next day, Kravitz and the gang come riding into town, Raven Queen standard flying high over their heads, dressed in shining silver on black. Lup’s out on the street, collecting some last-minute supplies when she sees them.
Holy shit, Lup says.
She recognizes the Prince. She recognizes BARRY. And after her moment of gawking in surprise, the prince glances her way, and does a frankly comedic wide-eyed double take.
She does, after all, have Taako’s face.
He hops off his horse and very politely comes over and introduces himself, and identifies her by name (he met her grandfather) and asks, very kindly, if she might know where he can find her brother.
Lup does some quick mental calculus and says “yeah, I can show you where he is.”
That scene can be found HERE. (I truly can’t shortly summarize this one better than I wrote it so yikes secret few thousand words nested in this already monstrous summary, I’m sorry but not really I am sorry that it switches tense like three times, I do not have the energy to correct it).
Needless to say, they are reunited.
But it’s a lot to put on someone, the entire “come home with me I think you’re the love of my life even though we kind of only know each other a little, also if you say yes you might be responsible for governing a whole people” so Taako needs some time to think.
Kravitz leaves him some.
And then Taako and Lup have a long conversation, where Taako makes lots of excuses as to why he shouldn’t go with Kravitz, and Lup listens very patiently and nods and hums along, and then finally asks him if he thinks Kravitz will make him happy.
This stumps Taako for a good long time, standing stock still, looking terrified, before he nods.
Well, Lup says, I think you know what you need to do.
And Taako goes, the evening, as it’s getting late (which is about when he and Lup finished hashing it all out and he got his courage up) to Kravitz’s room in the inn, and Kravitz’s guards let him in, and oh. Oh Kravitz looks lovely, standing there, dressed down, comfortable in his own space. And Kravitz gets up and looks at Taako with wide eyes and Taako says, “I thought about what you said.”
“Yes?” Kravitz says. He might be crying. Taako can’t tell. He looks terrified.
“I think…” Taako says. “I think I want to go with you.”
Kravitz becomes a human embodiment of heart eyes and says “really?”
And Taako says oh my god yes but you have to not be weird.
“I’m not being weird,” says Kravitz, still heart eyes-ing, “I’m so not weird. I’m so normal, see?”
And they KISS.
*~*~*~*~*
Everybody packs up the next morning to head on their merry way home. Kravitz is over the moon. Taako is, kind of, too, but is trying to be chill about it. Lup tells Barry as they leave that she was the one he was hanging with at the ball that one time, good to see him again, and Barry becomes human heart eyes for approximately four seconds before he reigns it in and he’s like oh cool nice to officially meet you, and the two of them spend the rest of the trip circling each other trying not to act in love because like there’s a lot going on and Taako needs lup and all, and Taako and Kravitz are very amused by this.
Taako and Magnus become fast friends. And, he and Kravitz get time to properly get to know each other during all that travel together, and the scary thing is they fit better than they ever thought they would, they really do. Taako likes the boy more by the day. Kravitz is so smitten it’s revolting.
When they get back to Neverwinter, there’s a fair bit of fanfare and the Raven Queen makes a big stink about Kravitz shirking his duties and being irresponsible and whatnot, but he can tell she’s secretly pleased. She comes to like Taako very much.
And well… you know what’s next. After a bit, Taako and Kravitz get married.
*~*~*~*~*
EPILOGUE:
The marriage of King Kravitz to Prince Taako is known as one of the more fortuitous in the history of the nation.
Prince Taako, after his history as one of the working common folk of Faerun, went on to use his new seat on the royal council to champion reforms that changed the lives of working people everywhere. The laws he helped draft that established basic working condition requirements for those in domestic services helped launch a new era of equal pay and treatment for the working classes of Faerun, and a culling of the power of the wealthy.
He helped establish a new nation-wide system of government, based on regional elections, and with King Kravitz, gradually placed more political power in the hands of the people. The minimum requirements for the royal council to balance the number of aristocratic members with those without titles stands to this day.
Prince Taako was known, also, for his aptitude for the arcane. Though never did he manage to surpass his sister and brother-in-law in his lifetime, he is revered as one of the more powerful and skilled mages in Faerun’s history. Though perhaps more famous is his legacy as a great instructor in the arcane sciences, known especially for training Grand Archmage Angus McDonald in his early years.
Though perhaps chief among his achievements was his role in the war against the Hunger in the twenty-third year of King Kravitz’s reign. He was among those who formulated the plan to infiltrate the Hunger’s forces and carry out the assassination of John the Devourer. And when King Kravitz was injured in the final battle against the Hunger’s armies, it was Prince Taako who held the line, and was unmoved in the face of their power. For this, he became known during his reign as Prince Taako the Steadfast, though over the years his long-time connection with Lady Istus was cited as evidence to his improbable marriage and ascension to the throne being an act of Providence, and in many secret circles he was referred to as Prince Taako the Blessed.
Upon his abdication from the throne in the thirtieth year of his reign, Prince Taako and King Kravitz were succeeded by the former’s sister, Queen Lup and Prince Barold, whose daughter, Queen Lilliana, finally dissolved the monarchy in the twelfth year of her reign, thus ending the Faerun’s royal line forever, and ushering the world into a new era of peace and equality.

Dick had actually been thinking about getting a bigger house till wally had pointed out they didn't have a butler and he wasn't gonna just clean the palace pointing out 'just because I move at super speed doesn't mean I'm not still putting in the same effort'
That being said, Wally had taken it upon himself to put up the Christmas decorations, Dick had just come home with the box with the speedster had removed it from his hands and it look like a Christmas explosion had happened in the house, both inside and out.
"He even went the extra mile to plant evidence on you!"
Wally froze and blushed, then wiped his face getting icing and crumbs on his Christmas sweater and gave a sheepish laugh.
"Only if I get to lick the beaters."
"Deal dork."
'Workshop jobs for workshop elf's!' and all that!"
"heh, Or maybe he just doesn't care for the work uniform, having to wear the fake ears and all." dick said, coming over as wally was caught up in a fit of giggles mentally picturing it.
'..oh what the heck.' He thought, and after going and turning off all the lights in the house and making sure the doors were locked, made his way back to their bedroom and stripping down to his own undies, crawled under the blankets.
it wasn't even five seconds later before wally was snuggling into his chest and cooing 'daddy'
'...I could get used to this." Dick thought with a grin.
"he, It's only 6:30 in the morning Dick."
"Like I said.."
Blowing a raspberry at Dick wally eyed the presents under the tree and was about to make his move when Dick cleared his throat.
"This makes me SO glad I went all out for your gifts!"
"heh, ooooh? and speaking of~" wally said, grinning like a fool and blushing at just how much Dick treasured his cheap fixed up stuffed toy over the insane amount of cash that had been spent on his other gifts.
"DADDY!"
"awww, it's ok.
"Well, if I had ANY doubt you didn't want this before." Dick chuckled then added "Butt up wall man."
Wally listened to daddy and lifted his hips, all three diaper had been layered on top of each other and it felt like he was resting his butt on a pillow as his tushie came back down, his stiffly twitching wildly and Wally blushed, he was gonna cream hands free any second now.
"Do you still wanna go on with the rest of the diapers or do you need a bit of big boy time after you cream?"
He wasn't being mean, he'd be happy to keep babying little wally but also didn't wanna force this on him anymore then he already had with the telling Barry and iris and Bruce.
wally pulled his thumb out, and there was a line of drool with it that Dick somehow found just even cuter and he gushed in a babyish voice.
The end

Plastic Smiles
Hal couldn’t wait for this upcoming weekend. After months of much debate and discussion, Barry had agreed to move to California with him, and they were relocating this Saturday.
Hal was beyond excited to be able to properly show his boyfriend around his home city without worrying about when he had to go home. He knew Barry was also excited, but nervous as well. The blond was hiding it well, always smiling and bubbly when he mentioned the move, but Hal also knew that it was hard for him to leave Central and his family behind.
At the moment, Barry was off visiting his dad one last time before Saturday, and he was bound to be emotional when he came home, so Hal had picked up some pizzas and wings for him when he came home. There wasn’t much left to do, a majority of Barry’s stuff was already packed and had been sent ahead to their condo, all that remained were a few pairs of clothes, his toiletries, and his laptop and charger.
~~~~
“Why can’t I just run there?” Barry grumbled, leaning against Hal’s chest while they sat in the airport waiting lounge.
“Because it would raise too many questions.” Hal reminded him, tugging him closer and kissing his head.
Barry huffed and snuggled closer, Hal feeling his tension in his shoulders. He knew that Barry was not looking forward to the four hour flight at all, so he had made sure to pack a variety of snacks and had downloaded a couple of funny movies Barry liked so that they had something to do.
Hal pulled Barry to his feet when their flight was called to board, feeling his boyfriend tremble when they had their tickets scanned and were waved aboard by the stewardess. Hal guided him to their seats, knowing that they had an entire row to themselves, courtesy of a brilliant idea on Bruce’s part, that having an extra seat might give Barry more room to breathe.
The stewardess started on the safety brief, making Barry close his eyes tight and start shaking harder. Hal shrugged off his jacket and tucked it around the blonds shoulders, taking his hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze.
“Remember, this is the safest way to travel.” Hal reminded him, hoping Barry didn’t throw up on the flight.
“Shut. Up.” Barry hissed through clenched teeth, his eyes shut tight.
Nodding his understanding, Hal kept holding his hand while the plane started moving. When they tilted back for lift off, Barry squeezed his hand so tightly Hal felt his bones grind together, the blond whimpering and shaking as the plane bounced in the air.
When they got to their desired altitude, Hal grabbed his laptop and fired up one of the movies he had bought as a distraction. From there, there wasn’t much Hal could do other than wait for the flight to land.
~~~~
It had crossed Hal’s mind to carry his boyfriend over the threshold when they got to their new shared accommodations, but he figured that after a nerve wracking flight, Barry wouldn’t be too keen on being picked up.
The condo currently looked like only Hal lived there, Barry’s things still in boxes in the living room. The couch was draped with a few throw blankets, and the sliding glass door leading to the garden cast a square of waning sunlight on the hardwood floor.
“Do you wanna just order in?” Hal asked while Barry toed off his shoes.
“I guess.” Barry agreed, holding up his phone and waving it. “I just have to call Iris first and let her know I’m still alive.”
The blond hurried off towards the bedroom to call his adopted sister. Hal leaned against the counter of the kitchen and started looking up delivery services near them, mentally flagging a sushi joint and a mongolian grill that would deliver to them.
~~~~
The pair sat at their kitchen table, a banquet platter of sushi in the center of the table between them. Hal was almost completely mesmerized by the sunshine lighting up Barry’s blond hair and reflecting off his blue eyes while he looked out the window. The only thing distracting him from his boyfriend's perfection was his full plate.
“Do you not like the sushi?” Hal asked, snapping him out of his daze.
“No, no it’s good. I’m just not that hungry.” Barry explained, dragging his attention away from the window.
Hal froze, waiting for the punchline. Barry was always hungry, it was unheard of for him to turn down food unless he was really sick.
“Are you feeling alright?” Hal asked, looking him over.
“I’m fine.” Barry waved him off. “It’s just left over nerves from the flight and the move.”
He wasn’t fully convinced, but he let the subject drop. He knew Barry had really hated the flight, and had been anxious about it for a while, but he had also never heard of him getting stress sick. He pondered it while he finished his own meal, trailing Barry when he stood up and packaged the remainder of his sushi and what was left on the platter.
When the supper dishes were washed, dried, and put away, Hal wrapped his arms around Barry’s waist and pulled him until his back was pressed against his chest. The blond relaxed against him, shifting so they were swaying a little. Hal pressed a few kisses into Barry’s neck, feeling his pulse on his lips.
“Ya’know, we’re only a five minute walk from the beach. What do you say to walking down and watching the sunset?” He asked.
“Mmm, maybe tomorrow.” Barry hummed, “I just wanna go to sleep right now.”
Hal nodded, kissing Barry’s neck again and pushing them towards the bedroom. He was really looking forward to taking his boyfriend down to the shore and cuddling while they watched the sun sink into the sea, but he also knew Barry was tired. Plus, now that Barry lived here, they could do that anytime they wanted, the sun wasn’t going to leave anytime soon.
The pair brushed their teeth, changed into their pajamas, and crawled into bed. After some shifting and getting comfortable, they settled in with Barry resting his head and hand on Hal’s chest, tracing circles with his finger while Hal dozed off.
~~~~
Hal woke up in an empty bed, the other side of the mattress cold. For a moment, he forgot Barry had even moved in, but when he remembered, he got up and went in search of him. When he found him, the blond was stretched out on the couch, sleeping. Not really sure why his boyfriend was sleeping on the sofa when there was a perfectly comfortable bed in their room, Hal started making coffee.
Maybe Barry had woken up at night, been unable to get back to sleep, and had gone to the living room so he didn’t bother Hal. Perhaps he had gotten up to grab something, sat down for a moment, and fallen asleep. Or, Hal pondered, he was suffering from Jetlag, Missouri was in a different Timezone than California, so he might have just been following the routine his body was used to.
Not wanting to wake Barry up, he took his coffee out to the patio to watch the sunrise. It was a brisk morning and the cool air made Hal shiver as he stepped outside, while it made the hair on his arms stand up, Hal enjoyed it, it made his hot coffee feel that much more satisfying. After a half hour, he heard the sliding door open and felt Barry drape himself over Hal’s shoulder, kissing his cheek and playfully trying to steal his mug.
“Good morning Handsome.” Barry mumbled.
Hal moved his cup out of his reach but he returned the kiss. He reached around and pulled Barry until he was sitting in his lap.
“Good morning.” He returned. “Why did you sleep on the couch?”
‘Mmm.” Barry hummed, “I got too hot.”
Hal was taken aback, their bedroom was one of the coolest rooms in the condo, aside from the bathroom. The rest of the condo was also air-conditioned, so overall, their home wasn’t overly hot, it didn’t make much sense that he would get overheated.
“You got too hot?” He clarified, making Barry nod.
“Yeah. I think it was just because you were pressed right up against me.” He explained. “It just got to be too much, so I went to crash on the couch.”
“...Okay.” Hal said slowly.
That wasn’t really unbelievable, he knew through previous relationships that he ran hot when he slept. If he and Barry had been cuddling while they slept, it was reasonable to state that Barry had really just gotten too hot and had gone somewhere cooler to sleep.
“Oh my god, how are you sitting out here?” Barry muttered, climbing off Hal’s lap and finding his own seat in the shade.
“What? Too cold?” Hal asked.
Barry sent him a look of disbelief, shaking his head.
“It’s fucking hot out here.” He moaned, pressing his palms into his eyes.
“Oh come on! It’s only, like, eighty-five degrees out here.” Hal acclaimed.
“That’s hot!” He cried.
Hal laughed, standing up with his mug in hand, going to get a refill of coffee and offering a cup to Barry.
“Whatever. Do you want a cup of caffeine?” He asked.
“Yes please.” Barry said.
Hal smiled while he went back inside, grabbing another mug out of the cupboard. He filled his own mug with coffee, adding a spoonful of sugar and a small splash of milk. He filled Barry’s with tea, adding two spoonfuls of sugar and a splash of French Vanilla Coffee Mate.
He had to use his ring to open the door again for himself, and behind him when he stepped through it. He set both mugs on the patio table, turning to his boyfriend to invite him over.
Barry looked a lot different than he had when Hal had left for the kitchen. He was sitting hunched over, with his hands clutching the sides of his head. Hal couldn’t see his face, but the back of his neck was flushed and his hands were shaky.
“Bear?” Hal asked, “Straw-Barry, are you okay?”
“Hmm?” The blond hummed.
“Are you okay?” Hal asked again.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m good, just a little warm.” He muttered.
He stood up on wobbly legs, creeping over like a newborn fawn to the patio table for his tea. Hal watched him while he took a sip, he could now see that he was incredibly red in the face and he looked unfocused.
“I’m going to get you a glass of water.”Hal said, hurrying to the kitchen.
He had just filled the glass from the dispenser when he heard a heart-wrenching thud from outside. Slamming the cup down on the counter, he rushed to the patio door.
Barry was huddled on the floor, clearly having fallen. Hal threw the door open and rushed to his side, kneeling beside him to check on him. Barry was, blessedly, breathing, and there was no blood around him. While he was checking him over, Barry’s eyes fluttered under the lids and he started tilting his head and moaning.
Having lived in California for the majority of his life, Hal quickly recognized the signs of heat exhaustion in his boyfriend. Cradling him carefully, Hal lifted him up and carried him inside. When he laid him on the couch, Barry’s eyes had opened and he was looking around, confused. Hal pushed him down when he tried to sit up, wiping his sweat-soaked forehead with his hand.
“Stay here, I’m going to go get some water for you.” Hal ordered.
He retrieved the half-full glass from the counter, folding a clean tea towel and throwing it into the freezer. He rushed back to the sofa, wrapping an arm under his shoulder, helping him to sit up and take a sip of the cool water.
He made Barry slowly sip down the half glass of water, leaving briefly to refill it and swipe the now cool towel from the freezer. He folded the towel and placed it on Barry’s forehead, having him sip down some more water. By now, he was confident that Barry could sit up by himself, Hal left for the bathroom to draw a cool bath.
He only filled the tub up halfway, swishing his hand around in it to make sure that the temperature wasn’t too cold to handle. He went back to the living room, grabbing Barry under the arms and hoisting him to his feet, assisting him to the bathroom. He helped Barry peel his sweat soaked sleep shirt off, tugging his pajama pants down and step out of them.
He had Barry sit in the tub, sloshing the water to make it wash over the parts of his skin not in the bath. Hal could feel Barry’s skin start to cool down under his hands and he stopped shivering.
“Thank you.” Barry whispered.
“Of course.” Hal replied, handing him a towel as he climbed out of the tub.
Convinced that Barry wasn’t about to fall down without Hal there to hold him up, he went to the living room to tidy up. He brought the coffee mugs in from the patio, placing them on the coffee table to come back for them later. Even though their condo was cool enough inside, Hal turned up the AC and shut the blinds so Barry could come back to the living room and rest.
When all that was said and done, Hal hurried back to their bed room for something to give to Barry to wear. Given that most of his things were still packed in boxes, the quickest things on hand were what he had brought in his suitcase, which wasn’t much at all. If it had been solely his decision, he would just have the blond be naked, but Barry was far too modest for his own good so Hal grabbed a clean pair of boxers and took them to the bathroom.
His boyfriend was much the same as when he had left him, wrapped in a towel and sitting on the closed toilet lid with his head down, he looked positively miserable. Slowing his movements down so he didn’t overwhelm him, Hal carefully took Barry’s chin between his thumb and pointer finger, tilting his head up until Barry was looking at him. He looked even more dejected once Hal could see his face, his mouth was set in a sad pout, his eyes were glistening with tears, and his cheeks were still tinted pink in a feverish way and it made Hal’s heart twist.
“Hey Beautiful.” Hal whispered, “How’re ya feeling?”
Barry sniffled quietly and wiped the back of his hand under his nose.
“Better.”
His voice was still soft and weak, that one word sounding like he had put his entire heart and soul into saying it outloud.
“Okay, I brought you something to put on, and then maybe we can go watch some of that new Star Trek series you like, how does that sound?” Hal asked.
In response, the pilot got a small nod and a shaky smile, a fleeting thing that looked like it took all of Barry’s energy just to produce.
“Okay, hang tight Love.”
As he went to help Barry stand, he noticed that he was still wet from the bath. Not soaked, but not dry enough to comfortably sit and watch T.V. Hal knew he needed to fix that before he could get Barry somewhere more comfortable, so he slid an arm under his armpits and lifted him up, he used his free hand to pat Barry dry with the towel, employing all the tenderness usually reserved for newborn kittens.
When he was dried off, Hal made him grab onto his shoulders so he could keep himself upright while he knelt to help Barry step into his boxers. Tugging Barry into a hug, Hal rubbed his back and ran his fingers through his sweaty hair. He had already made the decision that Barry wasn’t walking anywhere for a while, not even to the couch, so he hoisted him up and started walking to the living room with Barry’s perfect nose tucked into his neck.
He sat down on the couch with Barry in his lap, grabbing the remote with his power ring so he could queue up an episode of Star Trek for them to watch. As soon as he heard the intro, Barry shifted and climbed off him, getting comfy beside him with his head resting against his shoulder. Hal wrapped an arm around his bare shoulders and gave him a kiss on the crown.
“Doin alright?” He whispered.
“Yeah, sorry about that. It never gets that hot in Missouri and it shocked me.” Barry whispered back, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I just need some time to adjust.”
That made sense, in Hal's mind at least. Barry had been born and raised in the midwest, he had grown up with snow storms and sweaters, hot drinks and winter boots. Even in the summer, it had probably never gotten as hot as it currently was outside, so Barry had no natural defenses to the heat yet. Fortunately, Hal knew that the man was strong as hell, given time to adjust to the climate, things would get better.
~~~~
Six weeks later, things had not gotten better, in fact, they had gotten far worse. Contrary to Barry’s claim that he would adjust with time, he hadn’t, and Hal was stuck watching him get sicker and sicker.
While at first they could be brushed off, the changes were now impossible to ignore. While he had always been skinny, Barry had also been strong as well, now he was frail and weak. He was shaking constantly, not with passion or pent up energy but like he could topple over at any minute, and he was always exhausted. Given how sick he actually was from the heat, he could rarely sleep and never was in bed with Hal, always on the couch, alone.
Because of how hot he was all the time, he had started to avoid any physical contact of any kind, the closest he could get without feeling like he was burning was to brush his hands against his boyfriends, on a good day, they would hold hands, but those were becoming farther and farther between. Hal suspected that the lack of affection was hurting Barry more than anything else, given that he had always been touchy, even before they were dating. To add salt to the wound, he could barely be the Flash anymore. He could hardly walk in the California heat, running was out of the question, and given that he couldn’t stand without trembling, he was no longer fit for duty.
Of course, when Hal had asked him about it, Barry had painted on a fake smile and played the optimist. He was still insisting that he would get better, he just needed to get himself sorted out, that everything would work itself out, just like he had said a month and a half prior. But Hal wasn’t so convinced anymore, Barry had lost a lot of weight and his clothes were starting to hang off him in ways they hadn’t before, and he was miserable.
Though he tried to hide it, Hal knew, he could see that the plastic smile Barry put on was getting harder to maintain, he could hear him crying quietly to himself when he was alone in the shower or on the couch at night and his voice sounded wobbly whenever he spoke to his sister or dad over the phone about his new residence. He suspected that the only reason Barry hadn’t voiced how awful he felt was because Hal had pushed California hard, bringing up the benefits of living in a blue state in a blue city, with all the perks that brought to them, he didn’t doubt that Barry was keeping silent because he thought it would make Hal happy.
Hal couldn’t stand to see Barry so miserable, he knew he needed to act fast or there could be irreversible damage done to his physical and mental well being. Which brought him to the present, in a crowded bar, stuffed into a corner booth with Oliver and Guy. He had sent them both an SOS text, briefly explaining the situation and begging them to meet up with him to give him advice, and here they were.
“So,” Guy drawled, “What didja fuck up this time?”
Normally, Hal would have been frustrated with Guy’s blunt ‘never beat around the bush’ conversation style, but tonight he was grateful for it. He felt like he was running out of time, or like water was slipping through his fingers.
“Barry’s sick. Really sick.” Hal answered, “He’s been sick for a while and I don’t know what to do.”
“From the heat, right?” Ollie piped up.
Hal frowned, looking at his best friend quizzically. He hadn’t told them everything over the text he had sent and Barry didn’t really like Oliver, so he wasn’t sure how he knew what was making Barry sick. Ollie picked up on his confusion, and answered the unasked question.
“Dinah and Barry talk a lot, she told me that he’s been suffering from the heat.”
“Whatever.” Guy grumbled, waving the archer off. “Why did you ask us here?”
“Because I need advice! I don’t know what to do, Barry’s gotten so sick recently that I’m scared to leave him by himself, his powers are acting up, and he’s so depressed!” Hal rushed out, “I don’t know what to do, he’s suffering and I can’t do anything.”
“Yeah, right.” Guy scoffed, taking a sip of his drink.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Ollie snapped, angry on Hal’s behalf.
Guy rolled his eyes, looking at the pair like they were idiots. When it was clear that they really weren’t on the same page, he scoffed again and shifted to glare at them while he lectured.
“You can do something, you moron, you can take him home. He’s obviously not cut out for the desert heat, whatever, he gave it the ol’ college try. He’s made sacrifices for you by coming all the way out here and leaving his family behind, now it’s time for you to grow a pair and do the same for him.”
“I- I don’t know if that would work Gardener.” Hal attempted.
“Whatdaya mean ‘it wouldn’t work’?” Guy spat, “Listen you dumb fuck, you don’t deserve Barry, he is too good for you. I know it, you know it, this blond moron knows it, everyone who has ever met the pair of you knows it. The only one who hasn’t figured out that Barry deserves better than you is Barry, so for the love of God man, you need to keep him from figuring it out!
“He loves you! For reasons I cannot understand, he loves you and you know it. That’s why you pushed so hard to bring him here, even when he had the most to leave behind. You know Barry would jump through hoops for you, so you had him move to the middle of the fucken desert.”
“Hey, he wanted to come!” Hal defended.
“No he fucking didn’t, he wanted to be with you! He doesn’t care about California, he cares about you and he’s scared you’re going to pull the same disappearing act on him that you’ve pulled on every other poor bastard you’ve dated so he moved to keep you happy.” Guy snarled.
“I wouldn’t just ditch Barry!” Hal snapped, responding with equal hostility. “I’m more than willing to admit that I’ve done some pretty shitty things and put some people through hell, but I’m in therapy, I started sorting through those issues before Barry and I became an item!”
“Then why did you drag him out here? You have no friends here, the only family you’ve got, you don’t talk to, at best you’ve got Coast Uni, but you’ve been done school for years now. From every standpoint, it would have made more sense for you to move to Central, Barry has his sister and his Dad, he’s exclusive to Central unless he’s with the league, you just fuck off across the galaxy!” Guy argued, “But you begged him to come to your home city because you’re a prideful son of a bitch who's watching the man he loves decay in front of him, and you know how to fix it but you won’t, for reasons I don’t think even you understand!”
Hal sputtered, grampling for any defense for himself. He knew he must have looked like a fish out of water, and he knew he didn’t have a defence for himself. Barry was a people-pleaser, always had been and Hal knew it, he had known that Barry would come to California and now he was staying even though it was killing him.
“Look man, for what it’s worth, I know you didn’t plan on hurting Barry, I know that he’s pretty much the only reason you’re a half-functional human being.” Guy offered, “And listen, you can fix this! If you go and say that you want to take him back to Central, you’ll be his personal hero, his sister will be relieved that he’s back, he’ll be able to see his dad again. Fuck, in ten years when you two have your two point five kids, a dog, and a picket fence, this can just be a really funny story.”
Hal nodded, knowing that Guy was right. He was either going to take Barry somewhere with a more accommodating climate for him, or he was going to lose him, either because he got so sick that he could not recover or because their relationship would fall apart from the stress. He had come to these men for advice, it was obvious what that advice was, so now he needed to figure out the practical end; how he was going to get Barry back home.
His boyfriend was stubborn, so much so that he was surprised that he didn’t have a Green Lantern ring of his own, admitting that he was struggling was hard for him. Still, Barry was getting sick, his powers were acting up, and he needed to be back in a climate he was accustomed to. Of course, that wouldn’t be easy, they would have to break their lease and find a new place in Central because Barry had gotten rid of his, not only that, but Barry would need to get his job back at the CCPD. None of that would be easy, but he hoped that it wouldn’t be too hard. He would talk to Bruce and Iris later, see if either of them could help him out in some way, but for the moment, he bid his friends adieu, paid his tab, and headed home to Barry.
~~~~
The blond was sleeping on the couch when Hal got home, his arm dangling over the side and a throw pillow under his head. The guilt Hal had felt earlier tripled while he looked over his sleeping boyfriend, dressed in a tank top he’d stolen from Hal and a pair of boxers. He didn’t look completely comfortable, just slightly more at peace while he slept.
Even though it was even later in Gotham than it was here, Hal knew he needed to start putting his plan in action sooner rather than later. First, He gently lifted Barry up off the couch and carried him to the bed, pulling back the covers with his ring and laying the forensic scientist on the mattress. Then he went back to the living room, stepped out onto the balcony and called Bruce.
“What do you want?” Bruce asked, picking up after the first ring.
“I fucked up.” Hal admitted, careful to keep his voice down.
There was silence on the other line for a moment, dragging on for so long that Hal checked to make sure he hadn’t been hung up on.
“So?” Bruce asked, “That isn’t new for you.”
God, Hal hated his boyfriends best friend sometimes. Bruce had gotten along with Barry from the start but had hated Hal since the first second they met. While he and Barry had grown closer, Bruce had hated him more, rolling his eyes and being slightly cheeky to him whenever they had to speak. When he had started dating Barry, he had called a truce with the Dark Knight of Gotham for his boyfriends sake, but he doubted that they would ever get along. Still, Hal needed his help.
“I know but this is worse than usual.” He confessed, “Barry’s getting sick, he can’t handle the heat. I want to get him back to Missouri before he gets worse but I need help, I need to convince him to move again and I was hoping you would have some advice.”
There was silence on the other end again, making Hal feel even worse about himself. He had prepared himself for some gloating, knowing that Bruce would probably rub it in his face that he didn’t deserve Barry.
“I wondered if that would happen.”
There was the silence broken, and Hal braced for the verbal dress-down.
“He’s what I can do. I need a safe house in California and I have too many in Missouri.” Bruce began, “I can sell you and Barry one of the houses in exchange for you subletting your condo to me so I can see if I want to buy it.”
That… Was very generous. Incredibly generous and far more than Hal had been expecting.
“That’s… That’s amazing Bruce.” He stammered, “I cannot thank you enough. How much do you want for the house?”
“For anyone else, I wouldn’t go less than three hundred thousand. But, it needs some work done, I haven’t updated that interior since I bought it, and it looks like something out of the nineties.” Bruce said slowly, “And someone was murdered in it before I bought it, which really decreased the value, so I’ll give it to you for one hundred thousand.”
Alright, knowing someone was killed in the house was weird and he could see why it would decrease the value. But a house they owned would be far better than an apartment they could rent, they could redecorate and make renovations, and it was far more private than an apartment building, which was good for their alter-egos.
“Bruce, I cannot thank you enough. I need to talk to Barry about this, but thank you so, so much.” Hal thanked, mentally adding ‘get Bruce a muffin basket’ to his to-do list.
“Just, don’t kill Barry.” Bruce muttered, “A guy like me only gets one best friend in life, and when he’s gone, I don’t get a new one.”
That was sweet, though Hal would never admit it. Apparently Bruce did have a soul, or at the very least, he had borrowed it back from Satan for this phone call exclusively.
“I’ll keep him alive.” He promised, “Have a nice night Bruce.”
He didn’t get a response, just a dial tone as Bruce hung up. He would normally mumble about his lack of manners, but tonight he could only inwardly rejoice while he went back inside. His phone buzzed in his hand, Bruce having sent him a link to view the house, which he emailed to himself so he could show Barry in the morning.
Hal took a quick shower, got into pajamas, kissed Barry on the forehead, and went back to the living room to sleep on the couch. He shifted around for a while to get comfortable, which wasn’t easy on the small sofa, he eventually managed it, willing himself to fall asleep.
~~~~
Hal woke up with a kink in his neck and a sore back but a good feeling in his heart. He hurried through making coffee, logging onto his laptop while he waited for it to brew. As soon as the computer was awake, Hal pulled up his email and clicked on the link leading to pictures of the house Bruce had offered.
It was a nice house, two levels and a basement, lots of windows, a large kitchen/living room/dining room area. There were two bedrooms, the master bedroom, which had an attached bathroom and a spacious walk-in closet, and a smaller room that they could use for a guest room and home office. There was another bathroom across from the smaller bedroom, decked out with a bath/shower, toilet, and a sink with lots of cabinet space under it. And of course, the basement, but it wasn’t finished, it did have a washer and dryer down there though.
The backyard was also nice, the back deck obviously needed some work but it was nice enough. The yard was fenced with a wooden plank wall, attaching to the house with a gate on one side. It was nicer than Hal could have ever hoped for and he hoped Barry would see it the same way. He checked the neighbourhood it was in and saw that it was pretty nice, located close to a library and a community center, with a grocery plaza not even fifteen minutes drive away. It would be an amazing spot for them to live in, and it would be better to own a home than to rent one, now he just needed to wait for Barry to wake up to talk to him about it.
~~~
An hour and a half later, a very sleepy Barry Allen dragged himself into the kitchen. He was still in the clothes he’d been in when Hal had put him to sleep, the stolen tank top and his boxers, his hair was a fly away mess, and his eyes were still cloudy from sleep. It was better rested than he had looked in weeks, not healthy, by a country mile, but it was better nonetheless. His boyfriend shuffled in and rested his head against Hal’s shoulder, linking their fingers together and squeezing his hand. That had been a pretty standard display of affection between them for the majority of their time in California, it was intimate but not so touchy that it was too hot for Barry.
‘Good morning Beautiful.” Hal greeted, kissing him on the head.
“Morning Handsome.” Barry mumbled.
The blond pulled away and set about making himself tea, pouring boiling water into a mug, adding a tea bag, and then poking it with a spoon to make it brew faster. Hal stared, leaning against the counter, watching while his boyfriend moved around the kitchen, making his drink. When Barry bent over to reach the creamer in the fridge, he couldn’t stop himself from ogling his perfect ass.
“You put me in the bed last night.” Barry said, standing up with the creamer in hand.
“I did.” Hal confirmed, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Why?”
Hal sighed into his coffee and put the mug down. He turned to Barry while he added sugar and creamer to his tea.
“Because you’ve been bending over backwards to accommodate me and I haven’t been taking care of you like I should be.” He answered.
“You’ve been taking care of me.” Barry protested, frowning.
“Not like I should have been, not like you deserve.” Hal said.
Barry scowled and crossed his arms, glaring at his tea cup.
“I’m not some helpless baby, I don’t need someone taking care of me.” He muttered, “I’m fine.”
“You are not fine!” Hal snapped, “You’ve been sick for weeks, that is not fine!”
Barry flinched at his tone, his eyes welling up with tears and he closed his eyes against them. He swallowed hard around a lump in his throat and tried to compose himself enough to talk but he wasn’t having much success. Hal noticed he’d been too harsh and cursed in his head, making Barry defensive and weepy wasn’t the right way to start the conversation they needed to have.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to sound cross.” He apologized, sweeping a hand through his hair. “Shit, Bear I’m sorry. Just, come sit down with me, we need to have a talk.”
Hal took his coffee and brought it over to his laptop on the coffee table, putting his mug down on a coaster and sitting on the couch. Barry stayed in the kitchen for a moment, putting away the sugar and creamer, stirring his tea, and then following Hal to the living room and sitting down on the sofa. He didn’t put his mug down, he held it tightly in both hands with it sitting on his thigh, he wasn’t looking at Hal but he was close enough for a heartfelt conversation and that’s what he wanted, so Hal just started talking.
“So listen, I know that California hasn’t been your cup of tea. I can see you’re sick and I know it’s from the heat.” Hal began.
“If you’re going to break up with me, just do it already, don’t drag it out!” Barry snapped in a teary voice.
Hal paused and mentally reset. Break up? He didn’t want to break up with Barry! He loved Barry!
“Break up? Babe, no no no, I don’t want to break up with you!” He said in a rush. “I love you! I want to spend the rest of my life with you! I don’t want to break up!”
“Well then what do you want?” Barry sobbed, wiping his eyes.
Hal bundled Barry into a quick hug, nothing so long that he would feel too hot, but long enough to be reassuring for him. Barry returned in with one arm, the tears coming hot and fast from both of them. When they broke apart, Hal started to explain what he had discussed with Bruce.
“Straw-Barry, I want to take you home. Back to Central.” Hal explained, “You’re obviously sick, and you’re not getting better.”
“I’m trying!” Barry interrupted, crying hard. “I’m trying to get better, I’m trying to get used to the heat!”
“I know you are! I know that, but Barry, you’re hurting. Badly. Listen, I talked to Bruce last night, he has a safe house in Central he doesn’t want anymore that he’d be willing to sell to us.” He said, “I think we should take it and move you home.”
“But you love Coast City.” Barry protested.
“Not as much as I love you! I don’t care if this damn city burns, as long as you’re safe by my side.” Hal promised, “And right now you’re not safe.”
Barry sniffled, wiping his eyes one at a time, left then right.
“But it’s cold in Central and you hate the cold.” He pointed out.
“I do, I do hate the cold. But I’ll get some warm sweaters, and start drinking hot chocolate, and I have my space heater of a boyfriend to cuddle with. I can put on more clothes to stay warm, you can’t really get any more exposed than naked to stay cool here. Not that I’d have a problem if you want to go around naked all the time.” Hal joked to lighten the mood.
The joke landed and Barry laughed, no fresh tears being shed anymore. He leaned in close and rested his forehead against Hal’s collarbone for a second, then shifted to the back of the couch.
“You’d really come back to Central with me?” He asked, looking up at Hal with big blue eyes that made him melt.
“I would follow you anywhere you go.” Hal whispered.
Both men rested against the sofa, looking at each other with affection. Pushing through his heat exhaustion, Barry reached over and took Hal’s hand, giving it a squeeze.
“Show me this house you and Bruce talked about.” He requested.
“Of course!” Hal agreed, reaching for his laptop.
They spent the morning like that, settled on the couch with the laptop open to the pictures of the house. Hal grabbed a notepad and a pen, both of them discussing paint colours for the rooms, upgrades for the kitchen appliances, and what they wanted to do with the garden. At some point, Barry ordered Uber Eats from Mcdonalds for their breakfast and some drinks from Starbucks, a sugary coffee for Hal and an elaborate iced tea for himself. For the first time in weeks, Barry looked truly hopeful.
~~~~
A month later, Hal woke up in their shared bed in their new house. Barry was cuddled into his side, giving off plenty of warmth to keep them comfortable. From the windows, the early morning sunlight reflected off of the snow and into the couples room.
They had moved all of their things from California to Missouri three weeks prior. They had been greeted by Barry’s joyful adopted family, who had helped them get home from the airport and unpack. Later, they had come over to help with renovations to the house, repainting rooms, setting up appliances and furniture, and cleaning up afterwards, then they had all had pizza and wings together and spent the night laughing and joking together.
Barry had gotten better, his colour was better, he had gained weight, he was bouncy and energetic, able to be The Flash again, and he was smiling. Real smiles this time, not fake, plastic smiles to gloss over how much he was hurting. The couple was able to touch each other again without Barry getting sick, and Hal rejoiced at having their sex life back on track after nearly two months of it being nonexistent.
As for Hal, he had been adjusting to the Missouri winter. He had gotten a heavy winter coat and snow pants, a pair of winter boots, and a set of hat and gloves to wear outside. He and Barry had gone and gotten him winter clothes from the mall, so he wouldn’t be cold when they were hanging out in the house. Barry had also gotten him some heat packs for his boots and gloves to wear when he went outside, which was the best gift he had ever received.
He found that he really liked the snowy winter. He and Barry had made some snowmen in their backyard one Sunday afternoon, then they had made a snow fort and had a snowball fight. Hal really liked watching the snow come down, especially when it was twilight and the streetlights had just come on. He could spend hours in the armchair in front of the window, Barry cuddling with his legs over his lap, each with a cup of hot chocolate, just watching the snow come down.
In his sleep, Barry shifted and hummed, drawing Hal’s attention back to him. The blond was in a warm pair of striped pajamas, with the blankets tucked up to his chin. Hal settled back into bed, wrapping his arms around Barry to leech off his body heat. He would have plenty of time to admire the snow later, for now, he was just going to cuddle.
Teacher’s Pet - 2/? | westallen fanfiction
A/N: Enjoy!
...
Chapter 2 -
Cisco woke up the next morning with Barry’s limbs dangling over the edge of the top bunk right in his line of vision. He blinked a few times, remembered where he was – at college, not home – and glanced over at his clock across the room.
He had about five minutes before it went off. Tumbling out of bed as silently as he could, he decided to put some clothes together and his toiletries, so he could head down to the community bathroom to shower. Chances were the alarm would go off before he actually left their dorm room, but why not let Barry get in the extra few minutes? They shared their first class together, and he knew Barry was a heavy, late sleeper. The last thing he needed was him grumpy before he’d even gotten water on his face.
Slipping into his slippers, Cisco tossed everything he needed into a small hamper, swiped his keys to the room off his desk and sneakily exited the dorm room without so much as a peep.
The second he stepped into the hall, the alarm went off. He chuckled to himself, though he felt a little bad, when he heard Barry groan aloud.
Still, he trudged on ahead and did his morning routine at the community bathroom at the end of the hall.
When he came back 20 minutes later, he was shocked to hear the alarm still going off outside his and Barry’s room. Quickly, he got the door open, stepped inside and shook his head at the sight in front of him.
Barry was still sleeping, exactly the way he’d left him.
“Barry!”
No response.
He went over to the alarm clock and shut it off. Then he started snapping in Barry’s face.
“Barry!”
Barry moaned a little, then snuggled deeper into his pillow.
Cisco shook his head.
“Unbelievable.”
He picked up Barry’s arm hanging over the ledge and got a grip on his wrist so he could use his hand to slap him in the face. Given his lack of height, it took a few times for the slap to really hit its mark and impact his roommate in any way.
That, in addition, to continually calling Barry’s name, eventually made some progress.
“What…are you doing?” Barry groaned, pulling his hand free.
Reluctantly, Cisco released him.
“It’s 8:30.”
Barry tucked his hand underneath his pillow.
“Mm…that’s nice.”
“In the morning!”
“Mmm.”
Cisco shook his head in disbelief. He grabbed his own pillow and whacked his roommate in the head with it.
“What the-”
“Get up!” Cisco ordered. “Winter break is over! You have class in 20 minutes!”
“Alright, alright…sheesh.”
Barry forced his eyes open, blinked a few times, then squinted so he could make out the time on the alarm clock on practically ground level to him.
“I’ll go get some coffee.” Cisco picked up his backpack full of school supplies and adjusted it over his shoulders. “Should I bring it back for you or should I just head to class and have it for you there?”
Barry sighed and ran his hand over his face.
“Just…go to class, Cisco.” He fell sideways onto his back. “I’ll meet you there.”
“Suit yourself.”
About a minute passed and Cisco had left the room again, leaving Barry still in his pajamas, unshowered, with his eyes fighting to stay open.
“Back to school, Barry,” he muttered to himself. “And with an immoral teacher I probably won’t be able to stand. Ugh.”
He grunted his way down to the edge of the bed, bumping his head on the ceiling a grand total of three times. He slid a little on the little ladder and nearly collided his crotch with the crook of the bed frame, but he managed to avoid that potential tragedy.
He pushed his hair out of his face, looked around for some clothes to wear and his toiletries, and within five minutes was down the hall and in the shower, trying not to fall back asleep while he was in there.
By the time he was ready to go, he had exactly two minutes to get to class.
Facts were facts. He was going to be late.
Bolting from the building with his winter coat hanging open, he ran awkwardly across the courtyard to get to the building on the other side. Slipping and sliding in the shoes he opted for, it was a miracle he didn’t fall flat on his face.
His phone started to buzz in his pocket, and he just knew it was Cisco with a slew of WHERE ARE YOU??? texts.
“I’m coming, I’m coming…”
He flung open the door, and immediately started to slide as there was no rug just inside to wipe his feet on and a long stream of water on the floor from students who had trudged through in their boots before him, no doubt.
Before he could catch himself, another student – or possibly a teacher – turned down the hall at the exact time as him and ran smack into him.
He made a bunch of noises as he tried to steady himself and her, but inevitably they tumbled to the floor together, and it was only his quick thinking that landed him in a wet spot and her on top of him.
Her hands, propped on either side of him on the floor, she finally gave him a good look.
“Are you one of my students?” she asked.
A teacher. Great.
“Ms. West?” he guessed.
“Professor West,” she corrected, and he fought not to roll his eyes.
Right.
“Professor West. Yeah, um, I-I am.”
She blinked, looking down at him, aware suddenly of his hands on her waist, and her bent knees nestled dangerously close to his crotch.
“We should probably-”
“Right.”
He moved slightly in one direction and managed to push her up and to her feet without doing damage to his genitals. He then twisted onto his front and got up. His own clothes were not as untarnished as hers, but at least he was no longer sliding across the floor.
“Barry Allen.”
He held out his hand. When she only glanced down at it, he realized there was dirt from the floor on his fingertips and quickly wiped it on one of the dry spots on his pants. He tried again, but she waved him off.
“No need for such formalities, Barry. I suppose I should thank you for saving me.”
“No trouble at all,” he insisted, forcing a smile.
“I mean, you were running late to my class, but so was I.”
“Yep.”
“Shall we?” she suggested, pointing to the dryer portion of the hall to walk down.
“Yes, please.” He chuckled a little nervously.
“Why don’t you walk a little ahead of me? I won’t have to mark you tardy then – if you’re in class before I am.”
“Right. Thanks…professor.”
Trying to shake off the whole incident, Barry walked ahead of her, nearly slipping into a puddle in the process.
“Oh, Barry, carefu-!”
He avoided it just in time. Not wanting to face his new teacher after that, he kept his head ducked down and strode ahead in only the dry spots until he reached the classroom and slipped inside.
He saw Cisco right away and slid into the seat right beside him.
“Finally,” Cisco muttered, handing him his coffee. “You’re lucky you didn’t get here after our new tea-”
“Good morning, class!” Professor West walked into the room. She smiled brilliantly as if nothing off the mark had happened only minutes before, but Cisco didn’t believe in coincidences.
“Did you and her-”
“Welcome to the first day of the spring semester. I am Professor West.”
She sent a slight glare in Cisco’s direction, and he shut his mouth.
“In my class,” she addressed everyone at the pedestal, “you will not speak unless spoken to.”
Any further mumblings were silenced.
“Excellent.” She opened her briefcase and pulled out a sheet of paper. “Roll call.”
…
Just one room down from the class where Professor West taught, Scott Evans – Professor Evans – had his own class he taught. He taught a few actually, but at this time in the morning he taught history. It started and ended at the same time as Iris’ class. It gave him an excuse to talk to her in the interim.
This morning she’d been late. He hadn’t seen her walking up to her class when he happened to stroll down the hall to his. He’d been hoping they’d collide, in a matter of speaking, but they hadn’t. She hadn’t showed, and he wasn’t one to start his class late just on the mere chance he might run into her and share some early morning flirtation before they got started for the day.
He supposed he was getting a little greedy, given that all his waiting for the past five years had finally paid off last night with Iris quite literally pulling him into her apartment and taking him to bed with her.
The hot sex had been beyond his wildest dreams. He hadn’t seen it coming. How could he have? Aside from some mild flirtation from the moment he met her, she hadn’t appeared particularly interested in taking a step towards a relationship or even a one-night stand. Last night she had, but was it possible she wished it hadn’t happened today? Why else would she be unexpectedly late to her first class of the spring semester?
It was so unlike her…
So, he retreated into his class, hoping he’d get a stab at a polite conversation at the very least once both of their classes were over. He did his best to focus on greeting his new students and laying out the schedule for the semester. He needed to remind himself that he didn’t live and breathe just for the opportunity to catch Iris West’s eye. He was a teacher first and foremost, and he lived for his students.
Still, when class ended on a mostly successful note, and his students had exited the classroom, he gathered his briefcase, peeked out of his room and there she was. Professor Iris West was standing talking to one of her students as the rest filed out. He watched them interact, could empathize with the way the boy looked awkward and flustered in her presence, but soon enough he had left with who appeared to be a fellow classmate, if not a friend, and the hall was mostly empty again.
“Iris!” he called out to her.
She turned around slowly.
“Professor Evans.” She smiled politely.
He tried to hide his disappointment at her formality, especially after last night, but she must’ve seen it.
“Scott,” she amended, as they closed the distance and then stood a comfortable few feet away. “How are you?”
He cleared his throat.
“I’m fine.”
“Good.” She gauged his reaction. “How was your first class?”
“Same as always…” he trailed off.
This was not what he wanted to talk about.
“Great! Mine was good as well.” She heaved her purse further over her shoulder. “See you around?”
She started to walk past him, but he reached for her arm before she could.
“Actually – I was hoping we could talk.” He lowered his voice. “About last night?”
She tensed in his grasp, so he released her.
“This is hardly the time or the place, Professor Evans,” she said sharply.
His shoulders slumped.
“Then when and what is?” he asked. He licked his lips. “I’m not…the reason you were late this morning, was I?”
“Of course not!” she snapped, then forced herself to relax when she saw the pained look on his face. “Sorry. But no, you weren’t. I just…slept in a little late. I wasn’t used to getting up quite so early. The break had me fooled.” She smiled serenely.
“Right. So?”
He waited on baited breath.
“I don’t have any appointments today,” she said.
“Well, that’s good news,” he said, cheerfully.
She winced. “Yes, well, um… Come by my office. If the door’s open, you’re welcome to come in, and we’ll talk.”
His brows furrowed.
“Does right now work for you?”
She blinked. “I’m not in my office right now, am I?”
His lips parted. He was rendered speechless.
“I’ll see you later, Scott,” she said, then moved past him. This time he later.
Her hips swayed as he watched her leave, but he couldn’t tell if it was on purpose or not. He couldn’t tell anything about Iris West. She was a mystery, an enigma. He wondered if he’d ever figure her out.
“Shay?”
He looked up from the aimless lines he’d been drawing in the snow to see her standing before him, a frown etched onto her face. He blinked in shock, surprised to see her. “(Y/N)?”
She took a step towards him and sat down on the log next to him, closer than she’d been in the past few months. “I heard,” she started, but lowered her voice, “about Lisbon…and about this evening.”
Shay swallowed the sigh and looked back down at his feet. “Come to tell me that I’m a murderer?”
He didn’t need to see her face to know that there was disappointment written across it. “If that’s what you think I’m here to do, then the few nights we spent together taught you nothing about me.”
Glancing up, he caught her eyes. “I figured you’d never talk to me again after threatening to shoot me.”
(Y/N) nudged her elbow into his ribs. “I still could if you want.” It did the work, and she watched a small smile cross his lips. She leaned her head onto his shoulder, curling her right arm around his left bicep. Her fingers felt cold against the bare side of his wrist. “I’m so sorry about Lisbon, Shay.”
This time, he let the sigh leave him and he allowed himself to feel her comfort, resting his head on hers. “It wasn’t your fault, (Y/N).”
She nodded. “I know…but neither was it yours.”
The thorn that had stuck itself in his heart since he left Portugal dug a little deeper and he countered, “But it was. I moved the piece…I caused the earthquake.”
He knew she had no idea about the Precursor artifacts, but she still tried to understand. “You may have moved it, but it wasn’t your fault. You were merely the instrument used by the Brotherhood. The fault lies with them.”
Shay looked off into the distance. “Misplacing the blame won’t bring the dead back.”
“No,” she murmured, “no it won’t.”
They fell into a silence for some time, watching the snow fall around them, their breaths coming out in pale, airy wisps. “Shay?”
“Hmm?”
“What…what are you going to do?”
He looked down at her, confusion swimming with suspicion. “Why?”
(Y/N) met his gaze. “I know you well enough Shay Cormac. You’re going to do something about all this.”
Shay knew it was useless to hide from her when her eyes saw straight through him; he sighed. “I can’t let them keep going. They’ll kill millions if I don’t stop them.”
She was quiet, then she reached into her pocket and pulled out an old iron key. (Y/N) held it out for him. “Achilles has the items stowed in the desk upstairs. You’ll need this to get into the house and second bedroom.”
He stared in shock at the key and then at her. “Why would you do this for me?”
(Y/N) smiled. “What you considered a few nights of fun, I considered it to be something deeper.” She folded the key into his palm then rose, standing before him. “You know my feelings for you, Shay. And I know that you wouldn’t go against the Brotherhood if you didn’t think it was the right thing to do.” (Y/N) bent down and pressed a chilled kiss to his lips, whispering, “I’ll always be on your side, Shay. No matter the cost.” She pulled back and smiled sadly, then turned to leave.
He stood and called out, “(Y/N)?” She spun on her heel and waited. Thousands of thoughts ran through his mind, but he simply said, “Thank you.”
She nodded with a small smile. “Please be careful, Shay.”
***
(Y/N) held the hem of her skirt in one hand, the other pressed to her chest, fear dripping down her spine at the sight of Shay standing but a few feet from the cliff edge. She watched Hope take a step forward.
“Give back the manuscript, Shay!” The assassin shouted. “I’m sure Achilles—”
Shay shoved a hand out towards them, voice cracking as he countered, “I cannot. I will not let this happen again.” He shook his head. “All those souls lost…” He met (Y/N)’s eyes and she mouthed his name in terror. Shay lowered his head and declared, “One more hardly matters.”
***
She didn’t know who fired the shot, but it felt all the same in her heart as she sprinted after him. “Shay!” Her scream tore through her throat and before she could get to the edge, someone’s arms wrapped around her waist. She thrashed wildly like a mountain lion caught in a steel trap. “Let go of me! Shay!”
“Enough (Y/N)! He’s gone!” She realized it was Liam who had her by the waist.
(Y/N) spun on him, pounding her fists to his chest, borderline hysteric. “How could you?! He was your best friend!” Liam let her hit him. “Answer me!”
He grabbed her hands, but before he could speak, Chevalier snorted, “The cabbage farmer betrayed the Brotherhood. He’s better off at Davy Jones Locker.”
Her eyes drifted to the smoke clearing from his gun and as if another shot had gone off, she was throwing herself at him, and had Liam not had her, she’d have clawed the Frenchman’s eyes out. “You arrogant bastard!” Fury mingled with her pain. “That man was more of an assassin than you’ll ever hope to be!” She spat at him. “You will reap what you sow!” Her eyes drifted to Hope and Achilles, to all of the assassins standing behind them. “You all will! You all—” Finally, (Y/N)’s legs gave out beneath her and she hit the ground, sobs ripping through her chest.
Liam sighed behind her. “Easy (Y/N).”
She sucked in a breath, grabbing his hands as if anchoring herself would take it all away. “How could you?” Her voice was quieter, but certainly harsher. “How could you let this happen to him?”
He frowned and clenched his jaw. “I don’t know (Y/N)…I…don’t know.”
***Two Years Later***
She barely kept the tears at bay as she stumbled through the New York streets. Mid-afternoon, but it felt so much busier than it usually was, and she felt as though everyone’s eyes were on her, watching her with pity. Another failed attempt at earning a job. She frowned and drifted into the garden of a home, collapsing onto the bench just outside it. She vaguely hoped that whoever owned the property wouldn’t chase her off in her apparent moment of breakdown. She brought a hand up to her face, wiping the tears from her face before sucking in a breath, then she heard, “Dear?” Her head shot up and she saw an older woman standing with a basket of clothes under her hip.
Quickly, she stood to her feet and the words poured from her mouth before she could stop them. “I’m so sorry ma’am.” She thrust a hand back at the house. “You own this home, don’t you?” She brought her hand to her middle and bowed her head. “Forgive me, I’ll leave.”
The woman huffed and shook her head. “Nonsense dear. I’d be a wretched woman to leave a young lady like yourself to cry your heart out.” She stepped forward and curled an arm around her. “Come now, inside for some tea and we’ll see what’s wrong.” The older woman smiled. “My name is Cassidy Finnegan. What’s yours?”
She offered a wobbly smile to Cassidy—It’d been some time since someone had showed her such kindness—she hoped it would last a bit longer. “I’m (Y/N) (L/N).” Cassidy ushered her inside and she couldn’t help but marvel at the interior. “Your home is beautiful, Miss Finnegan.”
“Oh, call me Cassidy, (Y/N).”
“Okay then, Cassidy.” The two smiled at one another and the woman set the basket of clothes down on the desk, ushering her to follow. (Y/N) found herself in the kitchen, sitting on a stool as Cassidy handed her a cold, wet rag.
“Here,” she said. “Wipe those tears away. They don’t suit a face as pretty as yours.”
(Y/N) felt her cheeks warm and she did so, feeling as if a years’ worth of dirt and grime had come off. “Thank you, Cassidy.”
The older woman shuffled across from her towards the open fire pit, hanging a tea kettle on the rack. “Want to tell me why you were crying outside?”
“I—” (Y/N) started, but faltered, afraid to offer all her knowledge. Eventually, she settled for, “I used to work for a man as a maid, but some of the things he was doing got the man I cared for killed.” She thought of Shay’s smiling face, then to that night when the pain, but determination was written across it. “I refused to work for the man anymore but…well, he has connections all over the colonies.” (Y/N) met Cassidy’s gaze. “I’ve essentially been blacklisted from any workplace I could go.”
“Oh no.” Cassidy’s voice was full of sympathy. “You’ve been on your own for all this time?”
(Y/N) shrugged. “I’ve been fortunate to work in some places before they figured out who I was. I’ve been working at taverns here and there.” She looked away. “I’ve been lucky to not end up in a brothel yet. But…I fear I’m beginning to lose options.”
“I’ll not have you working in a place like that!” Her head shot up at Cassidy, who had her hands placed on her hips. “You’ll stay here and look for a job!”
Before (Y/N) could get a word in, a man stepped through the doorway, griping, “What are you screamin’ at Cass?” He looked between his wife and (Y/N) then sighed. “Another one?”
Cassidy shushed him. “Hush, Barry.” She gestured between them. “Barry, this is (Y/N). (Y/N), this is my husband, Barry.”
(Y/N) waved and smiled as best she could despite the man’s frown. “Pleasure to meet you, Mister Finnegan.”
He harrumphed. “At least this one has decent manners.” Cass scowled at her husband and he turned, waving them off. “I’m going to take a nap.”
“Oaf,” Cassidy hissed, and (Y/N) couldn’t help but giggle.
“He seems like a good man, Cassidy.”
“He is,” she agreed. “When he’s not being rude.” She turned. “You wouldn’t mind helping with dinner, would you? I’ll need to go ready your room.”
“Oh, please, let me do it! You can go sit and relax!” Cassidy was about to counter, but (Y/N) begged, “Please, if you’re going to let me stay here for free, you’ll have to let me pull my weight.”
Cassidy watched her then offered, “How about you go fold the clothes in that basket and start dinner, and I’ll take care of the room.”
(Y/N) nodded and after grabbing the basket of clothes, she found herself standing in the master bedroom, quietly folding the clothes as to not wake Barry. A warm smile spread across her face as a sense of security filled her veins. She’d certainly not been the assassin’s target, but her fleeing was obviously an offense against them either way. She had no doubts that Hope had been the one to spread the rumors of terrible work ethic throughout the elite in New York—the assassin had the power and connections to do so. (Y/N) shook her head and put away the clothes then headed towards the door but stopped when she felt something in her pocket. She pulled out a coin and flipped it over, seeing the Celtic shield of luck imprinted into it. A sad smile crossed her lips as she ran her thumb in a routine manner. His words came back to her.
“Here (Y/N).” She looked up from his chest to see him handing something to her.
Her brows furrowed as she stared at it. “What is that?”
Shay brought his free hand up behind his head, resting on it. “A Celtic shield of luck.”
(Y/N) couldn’t help but snort. “I think you need this more than I, Shay Cormac.”
He chuckled and pressed the coin into her hand. “What are you talking about, lass? I make my own luck.”
(Y/N) inhaled deeply and shoved the coin back in her pocket, gazing out the window. The sun was beginning to set, but for the first time in two years, she felt hopeful. “I make my own luck.” She whispered and descended the stairs to start dinner.
Hey! Hello, I've been reading your works. I must say, the ideas are brilliant! So can I suggest you to write ( if it isnt a bother) about MC having a 'succubi's curse' or something similar to heat & what will be the brothers reaction or what they will do?
——————
Awww thank you so much💜💜💜
Btw this is how I’m mostly going to write head cannons and not all the time with long story’s along with a character
A head cannon of mine that I see al the Obey me brothers as doms(saying this I’m not saying men are all doms but I just really think that the boys are)
P.s while writing this I couldn’t help myself and also wrote how the brothers would be in there own rut so look out for that when its finnished I’ll link it here
And one more thing I did change on Mc got into heat to make it less repetitive
Mc in a Heat cuz of a Curse
Lucifer
Ahh you must love annoying the hell out of him don’t you
Walking down the street by your self which you knew you weren’t allowed to do rules that were known the very first day and then some you happen to piss off a witch who know how but here you are now in front of Lucifer getting a talk to
Let’s just say you got a lecture but during his talking the heat between your legs started to grow along with you pheromones
Soon even Lucifer was starting to get effected on the pheromones I mean who wouldn’t when someone as divine as you was sitting down right in front of him
But even if you were driving him crazy who do you think you are to believe that the oldest brother pride it’s self couldn’t control himself so he continued his lecture after a small pause but when talking you couldn’t help looking into his ruby eyes, as well as his tongue once in a while sticking out of his lips just imagining what those tongue and lips how they would feel on your woman hood
Mammon
To be fair this was all mammon’s fault if he just paid off all his debts this most likely wouldn’t happen
Skipping down the street arm linked with each other’s a witch fed up waiting on Mammon to pay up stops you to putting a fuse on Mammon most prized possession you to say the least he didn’t take that very well after they preformed the curse Mammon teared the witch apart limb from limb because no one should ever hurt his special human
Even though Mammon was blinded by his rage he still did hear a bit of what the witch had said know what cause they put on you. The only problem is the effects had already started taken effect with your pharmones starting to be realeased a lot of demons started stoping drooling at the smell
Mammon was no exception although he pulled out of his trance to quickly picking you up exclamaing the cause to you then once he finished exclaiming started sprinting to the house of lamation all the way into his room to claim what is him human
Levi
(Btw I ran out of names u will know when you get to the part what I mean)
You opened the box
Thinking on how much merch that Levi gets you being the curious little thing you are wanted to see what some of the things Levi purchased...without him
One of the boxes had ✨Ruri-chans magical slick✨along with a tag “it’s so good you just want to have more to drink ;)” and so happens you were thirsty so opening the bottle bringing it up to your lips you take a sip. Tasting like barries you think sighing you continue drinking
After you finnished the entire bottle you realize how adorable the tag was along with a “turn me” on the tag, turning the tag around you relized you made a huge mistake “Ruri-Chan’s Magical slick tastes so good you want more ;) so much more the only thing that will settle you is a nice breeding for your new heat! Cation drunk sips for maximum heat” Huh.. you drank the entire bottle
And of course Levi walks in seeing what you have in your hand with a empty bottle of “Ruris-Chan’s Magical slick”
“N-n-normi did you drink that entire thi-“ Then the smell hits him hard your pheromones slick forming between your thighs
Satan
Did you know cats have heats?
And in Devildom cats in heat can give you its heat as well? No!! Oh well that sucks for you
Coming home with Satan from one of his favorite book store strolling along home taking about what ever was on each other’s minds you two decided to stop at a small cafe with small little sweet treats, along with some tea and other things
Deciding to wait outside while Satan orders and waits for the two of your drinks that you orders a stray white with light mocha and black spots comes up to you rubbing it head against your ankles
Squatting down to the small cats level you start to pet the stray as you wait for Satan but eventually you feel a strange tingling feeling but you decide to ignore the feeling favoring on the small cat still nuzzling against you as you pet it hearing it’s small mews and purrs
Walking out from the small shop with your drink Satan sees you bending down petting the soft cat as much as he wants to Awwe over how adorable the two of you are against each other he can’t help the amalistic feeling he gets already knowing what you did wrong
Asmo
You ate Asmos cooking...
You Beel and Belphie all snuggling up together minding your business causally watchi g TV aswell as drifting off to sleep you wake up to the roar of Beels stomach when the two brothers still sleep soundly but because of your thrust upward from waking up Belphie was starting to turn from the commotion
Rolling your eyes you decide to get up and head to the kitchen knowing Belphie most likely would be to lazy to help you get food for Beel
Walking in you notice the beautiful batch of freshly made cupcakes almost begging to be eaten
Deciding that I wouldn’t hurt to have one you take a bite thinking of how delicious it is when you all of the sudden see the fancy note with pink trim next to the platter
“Dear my Solomon” uh oh you already thought knowing who wrote the letter and that you ate a cupcake for Solomon “I hope my dear that you are doing well I baked these things expeally thinking of you” aww how cute you think “because of your magic I decided to add my own” wait what... looking down at the cupcake then back at the letter “and added a special potion to make you go into a heat us demons go into” Uh oh “make sure to call me my love”
Then it hit you like a truck the feeling was so intense you fell to the floor sweating profusely clenching your stomach from the feeling
When of course Asmo walks in
“Awwwe did you eat the cupcakes, I can help you with that”
Beel
Going out with Beel to eat will always get you in some sort of trouble
Tonight was the night that Beel so kindly has asked you out to eat with him claiming that a new place has opened and wanted to bring you with him to see how you would like it so innocently
To be honest you wanted to originals say no remembering how almost everyone food was involved with Beel something would go horribly wrong
When walking into the restaurant he already called ahead to let them know to be prepared for the wrath of gluttony at the restaurant
The staff turned there beards and suddenly worked faster to get all the food Beel was going to consume
Sitting down for a second the waiters come along and set piles of food infrount of you two to the point where you couldn’t even see him but only hear small dig in from Beel who had most likely already was eating
You started eating you portion and felt a strange tingling feeling in your stomach but ignored it and continued eating when all of the sudden the manager comes over greets the two of you and starts saying what you were eating
“Oh and that one is made with a special ingredient that causes a instant heat”huh you were the only one that ate it. As the manager could even finish the menu Beel looks over to u wide eyes and pulling you out of the seat back to the house
Belphie
All you were doing was snuggling into bed
After a long day of school you decide that it was the perfect opportunity to have a long snuggle nap with Belphie
Walking into the twins room noticeing no one was in you see Belphies bed not made but just perfectly made with many pillows and blankets that would be nice and warm
Not being able to help your self you get a running head start to jump right into the pile of fluffyness and once your head fell onto the pillow you imedently fell asleep
Waking up from Mammon and Belphie arguing you start to sit up hearing the conversation “Mammon how could you!!” Feeling a amazing sensational feeling you look up “ I’m sorry I was just tryn to teach you a lesson about always sleepn I didn’t know ma human would sleep in your bed”
“Huh what’s up” you ask “umm”
“Mammon LEAVE”
