but on the other hand he's just like my dad where he can turn anything into a life lesson and you have to sit while he scolds your daughter for at least 30 minutes

Tell me if I'm crazy. But as a Buddie forever girl. I warmed up to Taylor in the sense that after her actions with Bobby ext, there was an actual redemption era. We saw her back story. We saw her doing Covid. We saw her being Bucks friend. We saw her with Bobby. We saw her with the Diaz family. Would I have accepted her end game? Well fuck no. BUddie will be on my gravestone.

So why do BT shippers think I need to accept Tommy. TBH is earlier actions were, in fact, far worse than Taylors. He has been on screen maybe 5 times. I haven't seen him actually do anything to have a redemption arc. It seems Hen and Chim have to do the heavy lifting to make it seem like he wasn't a jerk. I mean I will forever be annoyed he left buck stranded. Tell me you wouldn't be annoyed if your BFF called you admitting someone left you behind any where because they were annoyed at you for any reason. But especially because you were still in the closet.

Like why should I give him more mercy than Taylor just because he has a dick.

*deep breath* oh wow I'm really about to publicly defend Taylor Kelly and the validity of bucktaylor? Dear God, how the times have changed *distressed chuckle*

Okay, the thing with Taylor is that they established a friendship before putting her with Buck romantically. We all knew it was gonna go there, and at the end of season 4, like it or not Taylor had a fighting chance. Because the thing is, they brought Taylor in s2, and she is supposed to be this distorted female Buck 1.0 to push Buck into action. She's unapologetic and she comes out as not caring for anything but herself, BUT her reintroduction to us, includes humanizing her. She has an extreme reaction because Buck was using her and she thought he cared and she has a deeply relatable reaction to the covid thing. This means that along with her still being sharp and unapologetic, we see her have a softer, dare I say even as caring as she can be, side before they get together. So Taylor could be a nice presence in Buck's life, she calls him out on his bullshit, she indulges him in his shenanigans, she freaks out because Buck might be hurt, and we establish that before they are officially romantically involved. So we witness Taylor open up to Buck during 4b, and that means that, if they wanted to, they could've kept that energy going and make her a decent match for Buck. A Taylor who cares about Buck as much as she cares about the truth, is a decent match for him (would that be better than buddie? No, but it wouldn't be a worst case scenario either). They could've been a nice golden retriever/black cat thing, and their friendship could've also been interesting if they had kept that evolving and didn't stumble them into a relationship. So when we contain bucktaylor to s2 and 4 and the 6 episodes Taylor's in, she was presented as someone who didn't care about a lot besides her own gain and evolved into someone who cared about Buck as much as she could. The key difference between bts here is the way they established a bond between Buck and Taylor before getting them together. Season 5 keeps throwing rocks at their relationship because they can't figure out how to love each other but they are trying. Even moments where Taylor comes out as dismissive, like her reaction to Buck being worried the team hates him for Chim leaving actually ends with her validating his feelings in the only way she can with the breakfast. They end up being terrible for each other because Buck cares too much and she can't match that. But it's not for lack of effort. We see the effort. In her own way, Taylor tries. Does she end up being the thing she tried to protect Buck from? Yes. But that conversation with Lucy during mayday shows a real understanding of Buck. She was trying. The fact that the way they love is incompatible doesn't negate that, it just shows that they are bad as a couple. Buck needs something she couldn't deliver. And Buck couldn't accept that. And they shouldn't, there's compromise and there's fundamentally changing who they are as a person, which in the end was what would be necessary for them to work as a couple.

Tommy, on the other hand, since the show wanted Buck being bi to be the 100 episode event, he didn't have time to establish himself in Buck's life before. And then there was no effort after. And we can scream reduced season all we want but if they did it with Taylor in 4 episodes, they could've done it with Tommy in 6. Season 4 was also reduced. And it had Jinx and Treasure Hunt. And let's face if they can write a reporter into the plot, why couldn't they write a firefighter? But ignoring that, we are being explicitly shown a lack of effort. The show decided that gay excuses complacency, which is their prerogative, but when applied to Buck they are making choices, the outfit thing is one thing, not being at the hospital is another. I will give Tommy a "pass" for walking out on Buck, Buck shoved him back in the closet, he had every right to be upset, BUT he also could've communicated that better without deciding Buck is not ready and only telling Buck he's leaving when he's already in the car. And the "I didn't want to pressure you" excuse you was bullshit. But again, lack of effort. Comparing to Taylor again, Taylor heard a firefighter had been injured and she raced to the hospital because she couldn't reach Buck. She's actually a steading person for Buck in that moment, she understands what Eddie being injured means for Buck, she talks to him, she offers to drive him (dear God I'm letting Taylor Kelly set the bar), so the contrast that actually exists here is in the level of effort in understanding Buck and trying to provide him with what he needs. The thing that bothers me most with bt is actually the lack of casual intimacy. I was talking to a friend yesterday about this and it all comes down to the way the show had moments where they could write that in and chose not to. Things like not warning Buck his face is dirty or even helping Buck clean it once the scene had served its purpose, not dressing up, not being at the hospital, not even offering Buck a comforting hand on top of his at the table during that dinner. It makes me not want to be invested in the relationship because it lacks effort. I'm not in the mood to lower my standards for him. Taylor wasn't perfect under any standards and with the way the relationship evolved I wanted her as far away from Buck as possible, but she always came back, that willingness to try and get things to work is a key difference. No matter what they do Buck is the main character, and like you said, it feels like having my best friend call me about someone who's a parade of red flags that he's too blind to see and I just have to smile and nod and secretly hate him because there's nothing to do until he snaps himself out of it. Buck is the one I love in this situation and I was not given enough to allow Tommy some grace. Even more when people keep yelling at me that I need to love him just because he's a man.

I need you to know this was painful to write. I was taking breaks and I took a lap around my house then I went on a walk looking at the sky asking how did I get here. I will never forgive this fandom for forcing me to defend Taylor Kelly. I think Taylor is an interesting character, awful match for Buck in the end, bad human all around, but I can't believe I keep being pushed into a position where I need to defend the validity of her presence because somehow people stopped seeing the actual problems that existed there and decided the only issue was that she's a woman.

doing and posting this days in advanced since i wanted to do some newer art! Sorry for November Rain being nonexistent here 😔💥 I am a coward who didn’t want to guess around with colours with it 😭.

[ Bios ] :

Josiah Joestar (he/him, The Passion) - Diligent yet very tired this man will go at great lengths for his loved ones. A man from a well known family of mariners, though a bit rough around the edges due to his rather strict upbringing he’s a sweetie at heart, though he prefers to not get into conflict destiny pulls him towards it and he unfortunately takes part in one that involves him against his brother Dante.

He was then later pulled into stranger circumstances once he is pulled into trans-timelinear and universal situations and is thrown into a small rut when told that Dante has been stirring up messes for a while and that exploded into something like this? He just turned twenty two why is everyone jumping to calling him grandfather. He however, is not immune to sometimes joining in whatever nonsense that has brewed.

John Joestar (he/him, Hermit Purple) - Rambunctious and acid tongued this Joestar who’ll pull any dirty trick in the book if it means that he’ll get the upper hand, a prankster and not afraid to spit out any cutting remark regardless of situation, he's got good intentions he just so happens to be a bit of an ass about it. Unfortunately known for crashing planes.

While training to battle the Pillarmen to get stupid rings out of him (and not the marriage kind!) he was ambushed by his Hamon Coach who turned out to be mind controlled and swiftly after that he's brought into wacky stuff such as fighting ghosts and meeting himself as an old man!?

Josei Horojo (he/him, Star Platinum) - Peppy and with his heart on his sleeve the boy has passion and damn will he show it! He's what one would call the boy next door, his cheerful attitude and willingness to help others is usually bound to bring a few people in. Josei's a bit of a mama's boy and isn't afraid to show it as he'll go on a Journey if it means helping her get better!

While he and his gramps were on their way home after the battle with DANTE he is later approached by a man with a hat and later his revived yet mind controlled companions! In what is a convoluted plot to once again destroy the Joestar lineage he must gather the Corpse Parts and other Joestars to put an end to these multi-universal and timelinear escapades!

Joudai Higashikata (he/him, Crazy Diamond) - Anxious and on the shyer end of things he just wanted to play for his baseball team. Joudai tends to question Everything, he doesn't know what's going on he would Like to know what's going on! He cares deeply for people and wants to help people but he just doesn't know How and often needs to be instructed on what to do but he gets better in the long run once the hunt for felines ensue.

During this hunt, he gets into a brawl with his mind controlled friends Hachiro and Sada and after knocking Sada out of it he's pulled into more confusing shenanigans which involve More relatives he’s never heard about!?

Gioro Giotere (any pronouns, Gold Experience) - Cunning and sharp witted while he can't guarantee you're complete safety they'll make sure you make it out alive. Zey're very stand alone, it's a pragmatic kid to boot so she'll do whatever he needs to do to complete a task or get closer to a goal that xer companions don't fully know at the moment, he’s not at all fond of the concept of a puppet for he finds regular ones unnerving and people ones spineless.

After the defeat of Divino he encounters strange people who arrived at the colosseum for their assistance and it involves the gathering of their other family (which she was surprised to know that it had) to stop DANTE, the name strikes a bit of familiarity to him as xe has heard the name be said by their mother…perhaps it could potentially meet zer father and get a few answers.

Joaquina Rojoh (she/her, Stone Free) - Stoic and adamant on what she wants this young woman will prove her innocence for a crime she didn’t do. A good eye for design she’ll spot discrepancies and flaws within structures (whether it helps in getting out or because she felt a bit catty that day) with ease, once she gets more properly acquainted and befriends a few of the inmates and strays that sit around she develops a protective streak and a Ride or Die relationship with them.

After her father’s memory and Stand film were stolen by Wyatt K. Spade and the field begins to shift Plus admittedly a bit frazzled by the whole thing she’s then walked up to by her own old man and while she’s reassured he’s ok-wait what do you mean this is the Younger version of dad. And What do you MEAN Jesus’ corpse is mind controlling some of her gang.

José Joestar (he/him, TUSK) - Ambitious and ready to prove himself this horse rider from the Philippines is ready to rise above and get that cash prize. He’s a suave and loud man and knows how to use his words to get what he wants, though he tends not to show it since he prefers to have his bravado up in public whenever possible he does form tight emotional connections and cares for those he considers close such as fellow racer Rajul.

In a battle that costed Rajul’s life he mourned as he was about to square off against the equally mournful Stand user that wants to access dimensions to reunite with their family a muscular purple man suddenly appeared and somehow the parts of the

Joyara Higashikata (they/them, Soft & Wet) - Inquisitive and easygoing like their alternate universe counterpart they have little to no idea as to what’s going on though they’re somewhat less questioning about how things go about. They’re often curious about many things being an amnesiac that literally just woke up on the beachside, they’re as a result a bit nosy and 100% willing to pry into whatever to get as much info as they can especially if it’s their origins in question,

What would’ve been a day spent trying to pursue who they are two women proceed to ambush them and their crush partner in crime Koena this kid in a baseball cap with the saddest eyes they’ve ever seen jumps in with a burrito that smells holy and soon enough they and Koena are dragged into shenanigans that involve family, an identity crisis, oh and more confusion.

[ Ability Overview of the Stands ] :

Can't be Standswap without Stands so I'll go over them all briefly, they're all sentient or semi-sentient by default and they won't be as prose posed as the bios for the Joestars.

[ Now & Then ] - A Stand awakened by DANTE piercing himself with the arrow and considered Josiah's posthumous one. It's predominant ability is to watch over people within the Joestar family, it's most effective for those who are direct blood descendants of Josiah than it does for those adopted or married into the family, it does this within the mirror it resides.

Speculated to have a humanoid form but it has never denied or confirmed these.

[ Wayward Son ] - The Stand of Josei Horojo, at first its main and at the time assumed sole ability is to punch stuff really hard however one too many incidents later and in the fight with DANTE it reveals it has the ability to slow time, it can do this for a maximum of seven seconds and is physically demanding for th euser.

[ Daytripper ] - The Stand of John Joestar, it has the ability to store things within a small subspace, effectively making it a hammer space of sorts. It has a limit to how big and how much it can store within it.

[ When Doves Cry ] - The Stand of Joudai Higashikata, this purple pompadoured Stand can change the material of the object it targets though for convenience it often chooses to use metals, it has the potential to change the material to something besides metal.

[ Endorphin Machine ] - The Stand of Gioro Giotere, it has the power to speed or slow down the growth process of most things and the ability improves along with Gioro’s skill level. Once stabbed with the Requiem Arrow it can fully control the physical maturation process such as the aforementioned speed and slow but also reversing and full stopping.

[ Little Wing ] - The Stand of Joaquina Rojoh, it can turn any material into a string like material though the speed at which it can do such depends on what material wishes to turn into string, she’s able to reconstruct and in some cases reshape them, she is able to do it on her own body however tends to do this somewhat sparsely as Joaquina says the actual sensation is…not that good.

[ Tango in the Night ] - The Stand of José Joestar, an ACT Stand that grows alongside him in skill to harness the Spin. At first allowing José to minorly manipulate small objects to being able to being able to bend dimensions to its will whenever the drive is reached. Rajul is both impressed and frankly terrified at this escalation of power.

[ Queenie Eye ] - The Stand of Joyara Higashikata, a Stand with the ability to fuse two objects together and a Stand that one Toyo Santos keeps a keen eye one. As of right now its power can only work on inanimate objects though Toyo suspects that it might grow as time passes.

next gen riders headcanons and ocs

Currently working on a THW rewrite and it's going to take me forever, but while I'm working on it here's some descriptions of the kids that are going to be in it. The rewrite takes place much later than the 3rd movie did so Zephyr and Nuffink are older. All the rest are OCs.

Zephyr (12 or 13). Rides a dark blue and green female Monstrous Nightmare named Nightscale. (I'm not attached to this same though). Headstrong and impulsive. She's a protective older sister but her shenanigans tend to get her brother involved in trouble. She's also quick to fight other kids that get in her face.

Nuffink (10 or 11) is shy and quiet, also somewhat mischievous. (Using Homecoming characterization as a suggestion at best) gets into trouble mostly by accident. Curious but also fearful. Wants to be just like his big sister but he's struggling to bond with a dragon cause they kind of freak him out. Like Hiccup, he was born premature, and his birth took a huge toll on Astrid. After that, Hiccup didn't want to risk it and said Nuffink would be their last kid, though Astrid was willing to try again. Because his birth was so difficult and he's so timid, Astrid tends to be more protective of him than she is of Zephyr, which can make Zephyr jealous sometimes. But she and her brother get along well.

Ingrid (around the same age as Zephyr) is one of the 3 (fraternal) Ingerman triplets. She's very intelligent but also vain and bossy. Has a purple and gold female Deadly Nadder called Nightshade. She and Zephyr are frenemies. In terms of appearance, she takes after her mother Ruffnut.

Ingvar is a himbo-in-training. Has good intentions but often puts his foot in his mouth and says the wrong thing. Rides a dark green, male Thunderdrum named Earthshaker. He looks a lot like Fishlegs but more athletic.

Inga is the quiet one of the triplets and spends a lot of time learning about dragons from her father (he's not supposed to have favourites but he sort of does). She's a natural with dragons and spends more time with them than people. She's kind to Nuffink but his aversion to dragons gives them little to talk about. She rides a pale blue male Gronkle. His name is currently Skybuzzer, but will possibly change. She's got a round baby face like her dad.

Rainier the Relentless, officially Rainier Dagurson (14-15) is Dagur and Mala's only child (and there's a good reason why). He's tall and lean with strawberry blonde hair and wears an eyepatch over the eye he lost some years ago...it's a whole thing. Very traumatic. He's an adept fighter and very much wants to be noble and honorable. But he's deeply unhappy with his home life. He's desperate for his mother's approval, but she's very busy and somewhat distant. He has his father's approval, but he doesn't want anything to do with his father. Lots of angst going on. Probably wears a lot of black. Baby Hamlet/Aemond Targ vibes. But he gets along well with his aunt Heather. He rides a female Skrill (which is going to require some pretty protective armor) whose name I'm still thinking of. Potentially Valkyrie, but I'm not sure. Also Rainier weilds a sword.

Nia of the Ayida (15ish) is a daughter of Bayana, a character from the Dragonvine comic. I've named their tribe The Ayida in reference to a West African serpent deity. She's the oldest of 3-4 younger siblings but they're not in the fic. She's a brave fighter but very cocky and her personality instantly rubs Rainier the wrong way. Their rivalry starts almost immediately. She loves taunting him and he just turns red, unable to respond for fear of behaving in an uncouth way. She rides a large blue/green female Silkspanner named Silverweb and also fights with a spear and Silkspanner web net. Silkspanners can glide, swim, and climb very well, but not fly. I imagine they maneuver in a Spider-man-esque way, so her saddle needs to include a very secure harness. Tbh I just started Dragonvine and I'm not too concerned with making it completely accurate.

There will also be 5 OCS who are the children of the Warlords from THW. More on them soon.

Chimichanga! Deadpool Anon here! Stopping by to share more of the Sokka and Azula AU with you!

Sokka, now an adult with a family, is captured by the RCPD and is taken to Sato Industries in the future (or A future). Once there Asami explains to him that he was brought to her timeline using Spirit Vine technology. She needs his help to search for Korra who is missing.

He agrees.

Sokka realizes that he'll need help but he doesn't want to get his own timelines Gaang involved and he's going to need someone with a strategic mind. Since his timelines Azula is MIA, he goes to a different timeline and gets a Azula from there.

Shenanigans ensue.

Once Sokka and Azula find Korra they learn that this Asami isn't who she says she is. Turns out this Asami is Equalist Asami and is working alongside the Red Lotus to eliminate the Avatar from her time and all subsequent timelines. All timelines will be perfectly balanced.

Ballroom Blitz.

Sokka and Azula along with Avatar Korra defeat the Equalists and the Red Lotus and bring peace to the timeline. Sokka and Azula share their goodbyes and return to their respective timelines. Except Sokka sends Azula to a different one where she'll be at peace and finally be happy.

Since Azula is from another timeline here, I wonder if she would be from a timeline where everything went wrong for her, but in a different way than canon. The Fire Nation didn't lose, instead on the night Azulon ordered Zuko's death all hell broke loose. It left Azula without any family members (minus Iroh) and deeply traumatized. She ran away and has basically been living on the run for years, drinking her problems away and trying to forget everything that happened that night and how she blames herself, until Sokka finds her.

Equalist Asami???? Ohhhhhh. I think this is such an interesting villain motive. Eliminating the Avatar from every timeline so that everything can be equal but also to make sure there's no one to stop them.

I really would love to see a big final battle where they bring in multiple Avatars and ones from other timelines. The Deadpool movie has confirmed Chris Hemsworth will be in it so likewise here maybe there could be a moment when they get people (Avatar and other cast members) from the main timeline but also a bunch more to defeat the Equalists.

Also, love the idea of Azula being sent to a timeline where she’s happy. Giving very much

Kind of only works if you've seen the show, but I saw Afterlife AU and thought of the version in The Good Place. (Particularly if early campaign Ashton had to pretend to be a 'good' person with the help of FCG.)

Which, incidentally, is very nice for FCG and Laudna, who have no known end to their natural lifespan. Probably for Fearne and Ashton as well, depending on how fey/fauns work (she's 112 and looks 20) and how the Titan blood kicks in on the lifespan angle, seeing as we have no indicators that Titans die of old age anymore than the gods do. So I think Ashton probably also has old age immunity

Of course, this also can get interesting if someone kills the Undying of Old Age members

Story Bits

In the interest of making this an engaging story, someone/something kills all of Bells Hells, throwing them into a rebirth cycle with no one who knows them to catch them once the memories start resurfacing. (Extra sauce if this is to be the first rebirth for all of them)

Except possibly Essek, depending on the timeline. And because I will be extremely disappointed if Essek doesn't get involved with understanding Ashton's dunamis infusion and get half-adopted by a second group of adventurers (M9 has already fully adopted him into their ranks, BH is just borrowing the Hot Boi)

So Bells Hells gets a new childhood within 200 miles of each other, unknowing of the soul-deep memories waiting to resurface in them

Aside from Ashton, who still has their vivid possibility dreams, largely focused on the life they already lived. They get the strong hint that those dreams are real (though they don't know the past aspect of them) because they're also an earth genasi with jade marbled skin and amethyst crystal hair, and genasi are rare with earth ones in particular being very diverse in appearance (the Titan blood persists. Possibly stronger with a body born to it instead of changed)

So Ashton remains on the lookout for the people from his dreams because he knows that he loves them deeply and they are his

If Essek is involved, Ashton would be the first one he finds because they're visually almost exactly the same as before. And they can be coached through an early anamnesis because of the strength of the dunamantic properties of Ashton's existence

Finding the rest of Bells Hells is a Quest. They've got roughly 31,400 square miles to search for them (100 mile radius circle), and neither Essek nor Ashton have a (cleric) godly connection to try and narrow the field

There's also the struggle of hiding Ashton because Bells Hells was (probably) assassinated and he still looks like himself

Camp Camp: Parallels between Season 1 finale and Season 2 finale

So, i have been into the adult animated series Camp Camp lately. It's comedy series about kids who are in a dysfunctional summer camp and the characters get into all type of shenanigans every episode. It's a very silly show but it has some interesting things that worth of analysing too, like character dynamics and how some characters change throughtout the seasons.

In this post i want to analyse the parallels between two iconic emotional scenes from the show, both from season finale episodes. ( ¨The Order of the Sparrow¨ and ¨Parents Day¨) Both scenes involve two characters from the main cast: Max and David, them interacting and their dynamic changing in some way.

Let's start:

In the Season 1 finale ¨The Order of the Sparrow¨ David tries to find a way to ¨lift the spirits of the campers up¨ by using an old (and outdated) camp tradition. This turns out to be a complete disaster, making the others campers and Gwen leave the place, leaving Max and David alone while it starts raining.

Max, who has been trying to ¨break¨ David's positive worldview from day one since he joined the camp, goes into a rant about how the work sucks and nobody in camp ¨gives a shit¨ about anything. He goes on and on to the point David starts to cry, getting very frustrated with Max.

Satisfied with his rant, Max leaves the scene. That's until he hears David admitting that ¨he is right¨ and he stops walking. His expression changes, suprised that David is agreeing with his rant.

David then goes on about how he is aware that the campers and Gwen don't care and that Campbell has ¨better things to do¨ than taking care of the camp. He knows that people don't care about how things are being run in the camp and aren't interested in the daily activities. That's why he tries to do something about it, because someone has to be there to take charge of the camp and plan all these activities. Someone has to take initiative in doing something even if the rest don't care about it.

What it is so interesting is how Max... doesn't go full sarcastic mode after this scene, he doesn't laugh nor make any rude remark. He looks suprised, sad with a mix of guilt. It's one of the few times he is taken out of his element and he doesn't know what to say.

That's because... he gets this realization that David isn't this ¨dumb moron¨ who isn't aware of what is happening around him. David is aware of how some things suck, that's why he wants to change things for the better. He is someone who is determined to believe things can be better if someone makes the effort to. And this makes Max feel, like he would say it, like an asshole. All this time he has annoying the heck out of a person who was only trying to do his best, even if other people mocked him for it. He feels like a jerk for dragging everyone down while David finds a way to look forward and make others happy in spite of the situation.

After David wakes up for getting knocked out, he notices how everyone is around the bonfire and wearing Indian traditional clothes. He wonders why they are all here and suddenly spots Max talking to the others. For a moment Max seems to be worried for David and then changes his expression into his typical scowl, telling David to ¨not look too deeply into this¨. They both later join the bonfire with the rest of the campers, Max even seems to be enjoying a camp activity for a change, him smiling while doing so.

In this episode ¨The Order of the Sparrow¨ Max gains a better idea of who David really is. He gets a better understanding of why David has a positive view of the world, or at least why he tries to look in the positive side of things. In a way he gains a new type of respect for the camp counselor, seeing how he still tries to remain himself even when others tell him what he is doing is pointless.

Now let's talk about the season 2 finale ¨Parent's Day¨: In this episode the parents from the campers show up to check out how things are going in the camp. Almost every parent from the kids show up with exception of Max's. For this, Gwen and David get assigned to be ¨Max's parents¨ by Cambell until they show up. Max spends most of the episode being angry at other kids and lashing out when things work out well for other families, specially in the family performances near the end of the day.

David picks up the way Max is acting and treating other kids, not approving of it. He finally gets tired of Max's attitude and scolds him for being so negative all the time, this sharing some parallels with Max's rant to David scene in ¨The Order of the Sparrow¨ Season 1 finale. And, much like Max in the Season 1 finale, David has a crushing realization of what is really truly happening to Max when he reads the kid's documents: His parents barely care about him and only signed him up to the camp to get rid of him for the summer, without even signing him up to a specific camp activity.

David quickly connects the dots and realizes why Max has been angry more than usual the whole day. He sees all the rest of the kids parents show up except of his, making him feel extremely sad, lonely and devastated of being reminded of his family situation back at home.

Max has made a few remarks about his parents in a few episodes but he never talked about what was happening to him, or not at least to Gwen and David about it. I'd like to think that David assumed that Max was some kid who wanted to get attention or get into trouble before this episode. That he was only going through a ¨rebel phase¨ the rest of the kids and teenagers go through at that age and he will grow out of it.

Seeing that Max isn't clearly doing well and hurting, David and Gwen decide to leave the camp for the night, skip the family performance and go to a restaurant to order some pizza with the kid.

Max asks why they are here, to which David answers to with: ¨You were right. It's stupid¨, refering to Camp Camp's parents show. He tells Max that he shouldn't have to pretend that things are okay and he can't force people to be happy when things are really bad. There are moments people just feel sad or angry and they can't pretend that everything is okay with them. He also apologizes Max for scolding him earlier, since he didn't know his family situation and should have paid more attention to what Max was telling him.

This scene shows parallels to Max gaining a better understanding of David in Season 1 finale, the main difference is that their roles are reversed in ¨Parents Day¨: David is the one that begins to understand that Max isn't just some kid who wants to cause trouble. He learns that the reason of why Max is always so angry and pessimistic is because nobody in his home cares about him and that makes him lash out in anger to those around him. David explains to Max that while he has right to be angry, he also has the right to be happy as well and hopes that one day he is able to find that while he is staying in the camp. Max seems to be touched by this, since he remains silent after that.

Once the three finish eating the pizza, they go outside and Gwen goes to the car, leaving David and Max are standing alone for a moment. That's when Max decides to give David a quick hug, probably as a sign of gratitude for trying to understand him, something that other adults from his social circle likely haven't done before.

Moments like this show that Max deep inside is just a kid who feels misunderstood, alone and sad and in part puts up a ¨not caring about anything¨ facade to hide how he truly feels and to not get too close too others. After this episode he grows into a ¨nicer¨ person, including saving the camp a few times when he could have easily used those opportunities to close the camp down and not having to be in there. This demonstrates that he took David's advice and started to consider his camp like a new home for him.

In conclusion:

Both ¨The Order of the Sparrow¨ and ¨Parents Day¨ episode parallel each other in the way Max and David gain a better understanding of the other's worldview and personality and leads them to do something nice for the other as result, developing both as characters and their relationship. While ¨The Order of the Sparrow¨ is about Max understanding why David tries to be positive and make others happy, ¨Parents Day¨ is about David learning why Max is so angry and negative all the time due to his family situation. Both are great episodes and both are interesting parallels to each other, whatever they were intentional or not.

Love in Hands Made For Gentleness

One of the themes in this book are the different forms of love, and - like many others - I think about the Greek words to ensure I explore it the way I want to. It's an interesting thing to think about, how each form of love is manifested, and is something I hold very close to my heart, because after all 'these three abide, but the greatest of these is love'. Given that both faith and hope are also crucial elements (hope gets more of a talking-about, but that's inextricably tied into faith as it is for me), it's important that I don't forget about their greater counterpart, love. I wanted to break it down and discuss a bit about how the different forms of love are displayed.

This necessarily involves spoilers, so if you want to scroll right past and remain unspoiled, feel free to! (And yes, I do indeed overanalyse my own works, what of it?) Also note: trigger warnings consistent with the book itself, since some of the topics discussed may be distressing (if you find discussion of topics like suicide distressing, a) please take care of yourself, and b) this probably won't be the book for you).

So in no particular order:

Philia

Philia is the love of friends, platonic love. This is really where Vaniah and Anneka start out, in a way - very good friends, very affectionate, and entirely platonic. Before we get into the more complicated feelings as they grow closer after their marriage, one of my aims with this book is to emphasise the importance of platonic love, as well as its depth, and that it absolutely doesn't need to romantic to be very close and extremely important to the people in it. For Vaniah, Anneka is the most important person in his life, even before their marriage.

Eros

Eros is the interesting one here to me - the passionate romantic or sexual love. It's definitely important to this story and these characters; Vaniah has some trauma around all of this to work through, but ultimately, they're married, they're going to be doing married people shenanigans. (Not on page, don't worry. There'll be discussions around that topic, as necessary, but since it's not a topic I really want to touch for personal reasons I doubt it'll have a great deal of page time.) It's important, but most of the hints around it will probably be accidental; I know I've shared excerpts that are just them playing around and being silly, and certain people look at them and see sexual undertones I never intended. Ah well.

Agape

Agape is the most important love here, I think - the self-sacrificing, selfless love. It's unconditional, and very much represents the bond between Vaniah and Anneka as it heals. Both are willing to do whatever it takes for the other to grow better and closer to God, at least in theory, and over time that translates to wanting their own healing in order to stop grieving the other person (more relevant for Vaniah than Anneka). At a certain point with a lot of mental problems, I feel like one stops caring about healing, and it's a struggle sometimes to remember why you would try, because it's easier to just exist and not try to improve. Over time, though, Vaniah and Anneka help one another to heal from their respective problems. They won't go away completely, of course, but whatever they can do to help, they do, and I love them for it. Anneka, for instance, is very willing to hear about dark, graphic thoughts and see some very graphic things, if it will help Vaniah (like when she helps him to care for self-inflicted wounds, which understandably deeply upsets her). Despite how it may make her feel, she's determined to continue to love him no matter what, and that's something she emphasises, especially when he gets existential and at one point even suggests she should divorce him and let him die by his own hand. (She refuses, reminds him of her love and God's love, and pulls out verses to support her point.)

Storge

Storge is the familiar love, love of family. This is one most represented by Anneka's bond with her brother, Ben. While Vaniah has two siblings, one is already dead by the start of the story, and the other, Susan, doesn't get a great deal of page time. Because the story is told from Anneka's point of view, the two most important male characters are Vaniah and Ben. Her relationship with Ben mimics my own bond with my siblings. I wanted him to be her protector, to some extent, until that role is handed more to Vaniah. Though she can stand for herself, Anneka still needs the love and support of her family and friends, just like we all do. For Vaniah and Anneka, the support and protection goes both ways.

Mania

Mania is another interesting one, and not one I'd really considered specifically until writing this post. As part of his mental health journey, Vaniah sometimes veers close to obsession, or stumbles into it completely. He is at times violent, but never towards Anneka, only himself. There's a spice of codependency as well, as they both know he would have committed suicide years earlier if it hadn't been for her, and at times, at his lowest, he resents her for it. There are a lot of toxic emotions tied up into this relationship, but together (and with the help of others from their church) they work through it and out the other side.

Ludus

This is another form of love I hadn't considered until writing this post, but I'm glad I did. It's an integral part of Vaniah and Anneka's relationship, and serves to lighten the admittedly heavy tone of this book. They have a lot of fun together, even despite the terrible darkness that sometimes assails one or both of them, and it's important to remember. It's also tied into the banter between Anneka and Ben, which can sometimes be pretty similar to the way Vaniah and Anneka interact. But they absolutely can't be sad or depressed all the time, because that would be a terrible book to read. I need to work more on putting this in, and the balance between light and dark, so that it doesn't feel jarring or confusing, or different to the tone of the rest of the book.

Pragma

Pragma is an enduring love, and it's extremely important to their relationship. Both Vaniah and Anneka have to make compromises to make things work, and as they mature and heal from their traumas and disorders, they learn to work together better, and the codependency they previously experienced is transformed into a strong, healthy and abiding bond in Christ.

Philautia

Oh look, another one I hadn't expressly thought about before this post! Philautia is the love of self. This one is interesting because it ties into my opinion that both 'self love' and 'self hatred' are expressions of self obsession, which isn't really a very good thing, obviously. At the start of the story, Vaniah absolutely can't get past his feelings about himself, his guilt over what he was forced to do or chose to do, and the way he perceives himself at that point. However, as it progresses, he learns to forgive himself (there's one scene in which Anneka argues that God has forgiven him if he has repented, and he bitterly retorts that all he needs to do is forgive himself, for he has repented a thousand times), and finally to move on after years of feeling stuck in one place. This is only really possible after he hits the lowest point and attempts suicide, and finally makes the decision that he will never end his own life, no matter what. He eventually reaches a point at which he is less self-obsessed (tying it in to the development of agape love as well), and is able to look more outwards without obsessing over his own behaviour; he doesn't love himself, but he has learned to accept himself and to largely stop punishing himself for his own existence, which is what is tied into his significant habit of self-harm. (Which he does eventually manage to stop completely; I'm not sure that's entirely possible for some or even most people, at least given how established it is as a coping mechanism for him, but there might be a little bit of wishful thinking helping this one along, and that's okay.)

So those are the different forms of love as expressed in this story! I could probably talk a lot more about them if I sat down and thought about it for even longer, but I really shouldn't. I have an exam to study for. God be with you.

A post I saw recently made me remember an idea I had like a year ago: The Gaang (from AtLA) as Grishaverse characters.

All of the characters would be aged up by 6-7 years compared to their OG versions, to match up with their stories and the universe better, meaning that Toph and Aang are in their late teens and the rest is in their early 20s.

Also, I firmly support the Darkling and Grisha loyalists, so please avoid leaving anti-Darkling replies or I will block you, because I don't feel like arguing with yall on here. Feel free to send me hate asks if you want, but keep it off of this post.

So, in no particular order:

Toph Kir-Lao: The only daughter of an influential Shu noble family, born blind and a Durast, with incredible talent for working with both rock and metal. Her parents had her recieve some secret training during her childhood, but eventually, at the age of 12, she had enough of their overprotectivness and desire to force her into a life of hiding her true self and conforming to the expectations of a high-society young woman and an heir to an influential family, and decided to run away from home and to Ravka, joining up with the Second Army (as that was the only place she knew where being Grisha wasn't at best a shameful secret). Her parents did eventually find out she was at the Little Palace and though the relationship remains tense, they are in sporadic contact. (If anyone asks them, Toph is studying in Kerch).

Zuko (He has both a Kerch and Shu family name, but doesn't use either because fuck his family, though his uncle gave him permission to use the name Yul-Iroh if necessary): Ethnically mostly Shu, grew up in Kerch. His father is on the Merchant Council and traces his heritage to the Taban family (their ancestors fled to Kerch after an unsuccessful power grab). The entire family are and have been Inferni for several generations, though it is not public knowledge, and Zuko, his sister and cousin were all trained to use their powers from an early age. Zuko got his scar in his early teens, during a fight with his dad. Iroh is his father's older brother who decided to cede his position as the head of the family business after his son disappeared, so that he could fully devote himself to the search/investigation - he would later find out that his brother was involved with the Kerch slave trade (and general gang shenanigans) and arranged for his son to get captured and sold. Though Iroh always knew about the dangers Grisha faced, it was only this that made him realize that being rich and powerful didn't exempt him or the people he loved from that. Combined with Ozai's escalating abuse of Zuko, Iroh decided to leave Kerch and seek shelter with the Second Army, partially hoping that his son had managed to escape and ended up there as well.

Aang (He has a Ravkan first and last name, but only uses his Suli middle name): Ethnically a mix of Suli, Ravkan and Shu, Squaller, grew up at the Little Palace. He comes from a Grisha family that has been part of the Second Army pretty much since its founding. His only living family is his grandfather Gyatso (who teaches at the Little Palace school), both of his parents were killed in the war when he was very young. Both he and his grandfather are deeply religious (to the point of being considered fanatics by most other Grisha) and refuse to kill because of it (which is why Gyatso ended up being a teacher) - despite this, Aang is the youngest known Squaller to have learned the Cut.

Katara and Sokka: They are Hedjut. Though the Hedjut are typically pretty accepting of Grisha, they still live in Fjerdan territory and their mother ended up getting killed in a Drüskelle raid (not decided if she was also Grisha or if she just took the bullet for Katara like in AtLA), after which their father decided to send them both down south to Ravka, as their home could no longer be safe for Katara (not decided if Sokka went with her because he wanted to make sure Katara was safe or because their father suspected he was also Grisha and didn't want to risk him, either). Sokka isn't Grisha, but he did end up joining with the Oprichniki to stay close (he typically is part of the Palace guard, because something-something-Ravka is racist). Katara is officially a Tidemaker, though she does have some Corporalki abilities (Hedjut, much like the Zemeni, don't view Grisha with strict order distinctions, so she didn't realize this was not normal until much later).

I do have some additional ideas for the characters (and for other AtLA (or other universe) characters translated into the Grishaverse), so feel free to ask about those. Or post your own extensions, if you want.

Hello, I'm a big fan of your art and have read some of the fanfictions you wrote on AO3, many props to you, I've tried writing stories in notebooks and stuff and it's so hard so seriously good on you. But I had a question, so obviously Rewind wouldn't react well to meeting humans because of his distrust towards them (which completely understandable humans suck), but if he were to meat someone like the main character in Absurmageart's fanfic "Making a monster" where the person was originally human but when the monsters came out of the underground a huge blast of magic came from the mountain and turned a bunch of people into monsters (main character if you haven't read it, had been a normal human girl but was the only human turned skeleton monster), I'm really curious on how you think he would react to something like that happening in an AU he visits, would it possibly cause some sort of mental battle for him? I just love to imagine how the boys (any Sans & Papyrus) would possibly react to that, I also think with the Sans' and swap papyrus' that are into science would want to run tests and stuff and try and figure out how it would've happened or what caused the humans to turn into specific monster species.

Rewind is an AU voyager, which means he travels a lot between AUs and doesn't really settle anywhere; he usually doesn't stay long. The Slice of Life AU short stories are an exception as he and all the other characters are basically "stuck" inside that AU. He does stay for longer than usual in the Huntertales AU, and eventually stays there permanently, but not before traveling around some more.

Him not sticking around for long in AUs means he doesn't get deeply involved in whatever is happening or has happened before his arrival. He's there to get a Papyrus-coded SOUL and then leaves. Unless he befriends someone, then he'll stick around for a teensy bit longer before hopping on over to the next AU to continue his quest.

In the case you mentioned, he wouldn't give a damn about what or how it happened. It's none of his business. He wouldn't be comfortable around this monster-turned-human and give her a wide berth if he were to somehow find out about it, and the same goes for the other humans that turned into monsters. It's not his vibe and not his problem.

With the monsters mingling with humans, as it takes place on the Surface (I assume, I haven't read it!), he wouldn't want to stay there for longer than he has to. He'll ask around for willing Papyri and then bolt to another AU that hopefully has fewer human shenanigans going on.

Her Wanton Wager

(TW: References prior child sexual abuse)

This book immediately proceeds Her Husband's Harlot (my review can be found here). Are you looking for your next bit o' rough gambling hell hero? Grace has got you covered. Persephone (Percy) Fines enters a wager with notorious Gavin Hunt that she will not be seduced during a period of time in exchange for saving her brother from being hunted by Gavin because of his debts. What I wager Hunt doesn't count on is that Percy has basically no sense of self-preservation and (among other things) gets turned on after nearly getting killed lol. Regardless, he's into it. She's into it. We love Percy for it.

The Duke Who Knew Too Much

Never has there been a truer title— Alaric does know too much (sex. He knows sex), and lucky for him, Emma is deeply into that.

There were hints of it in the Mayham in Mayfair series, but this is the series where Grace clearly ventures into kink. This one features a CNC (consensual non-consent) scene between the hero Alaric and another woman that the heroine, Emma, unwittingly walks in on, and then when said woman is found dead later, Emma basically tells the cops what she saw without understanding it was consensual. And the hero's response to prove his innocence... is to kidnap the heroine and take her to a brothel to make her watch a BDSM scene. Also, I think Emma almost accidentally auctions off her virginity at some point?

Anyway if you vibe with this kinda of batshit energy, this is the book for you.

I feel like there needs to be more HR about married couples going Through it, and this one does not disappoint. Marcus and Pandora have happily been married for like 12 years and are *that* Hot Couple, but then Pandora's secret spy past comes back to haunt her, and when Marcus finds out, he's pissed. Cue marital discord and misplaced jealousy/mild slut-shaming. Honestly, I'm glad Pandora took the drastic action (kidnapping) she did to get Marcus back on track. He deserved that. But yeah, this is a good one.

The Viscount Always Knocks Twice

Were you looking for a book that fed your desire for a Lillian Bowman-esque heroine and a Westcliff-esque hero? Look no further than this book. Violet's inauspicious first meeting with the stuffy Lord Carlisle involves her shoving him into a blood-red champagne fountain after he taunted her about her inability to spell. There really isn't much more to spell out: Violet will not be tamed and *hates* Carlisle, Carlisle is a stern stern man who is also deeply repressing his boner for Vi, there's a murder to be solved, so.... it works out great. Obviously.

Olivia and the Masked Duke

(TW: This is an age-gap relationship and Ben knew Livvy since she was a kid and he was older. Nothing inappropriate happened but I know it isn't for everyone)

It's Emma and Alaric's daughter! How full-circle we've come. Livvy is secretly works for a private detective agency called Charlie's Angels Lady Charlotte's Society of Angels. She's also wanted Ben, her older, widowed friend, ever since she saw him spanking another woman in the stables and decided that yes, she wants that. Obviously Ben is running for his life from her (at first) but Livvy will not be deterred, even as she worries marriage will stop her detective work. And her friends (and future heroines) are only encouraging of her pursual and honestly? This is the kind of girl gang shenanigans I live for.

Convergence of Desire by Felicity Niven

(TW: Attempted SA)

I can't say enough about how well-written this book was. The heroine, Harry, is neurodivergent, and while I am not qualified to speak from personal experience, I thought the rep was thoughtfully portrayed. Harry proposes a marriage of convenance to one Lord Drake, so she can continue her mathematical work unhindered (did I get very invested in understanding Fermat's Theorem? yes). Drake is a slutty slutty man who's basically been given carte blanche to have sex with whoever he wants by Harry as long as he doesn't disturb her, but obviously man cracks and starts falling for her pretty fast. There's this funny part in the book where he slowly introduces her to sex, and when she discovers the joys of masturbation, she's like "it's okay I don't need you anymore" and he's SO SAD it's comical. Speaking of sex, this is definitely a slow-burn in terms of that (and love tbh), but honestly? the pay-off is worth it.

Never Seduce a Duke by Vivienne Lorret

This book brought me so much joy (literally, I was laughing and screaming all the while- I could never read it in public), all while being very very romantic. The actual plot borders on ludicrous in the best way, particularly the first half that's a combination of a heist story, road trip, and mistaken identity. The funniest thing is Lucien being convinced Meg is some notorious seductress thief and every time Meg does something relatively innocent he's like "AH HA there she goes trying to SEDUCE ME with her FEMININE WILES". As for Lucien himself, Meg is hopelessly into his scientific approach to seduction which I love for her. The banter and flirting in this book are perfection, and I strongly recommend this book to like, everyone.

No, this version looks younger and yet so much older at the same time. Studying Hyuk for a long moment, Patrick can’t help but notice the prominent bags under his eyes. And the wounds not quite treated properly. And the way tension seems to ooze off of him in waves. He rests a hand tentatively on Hyuk’s cheek for a long moment. And here Patrick thought his friend was plenty stressed, but this…Hyuk wouldn’t look this way unless-

Patrick pulls him into a hug. A hand reaches up to comb through his dear friend’s hair, encouraging this Hyuk to rest his head on Patrick’s shoulder.

“…I’m sorry I had to go, Hyuk-ah.”

    He doesn’t realize he’s fallen asleep on his desk. Abruptly whisked away by the result of endless exhaustion and days without proper sleep, the detective’s fallen dormant against the spinning chair. Limbs are still tense despite the merciless grasp of slumber. However, as time goes by and he’s sent into a spiral of dream, his arms begin to relax; jaw starts to loose the bite of clenched teeth. 

    It’s because he’s unaware about this sudden sleep.     It’s because he feels he’s not alone.     Amid his visions, someone visits him. 

    Here, he’s standing up. A folder rests between his palms. The bags under his eyes are still there, the bandage wrapping his hand still exists; the cuts continue to litter fingers due to hazards faced. Nevertheless, for once, he breathes in relief when a palm searches for his cheek and effectively lands on skin; kind in its effort to rest there despite countenance’s ruggedness. Fingers soft despite being lightly calloused due to years of using markers; due to years of spinning a spoon inside a tea cup; due to years of flipping pages of lustrous books. 

    He looks up to meet palm’s owner.       A faint smile peeks.      There he is; his best friend. 

    “Patrick,” 

     name slips from lips with endearment and alleviation, as if something rattled him in the beginning but diminished the moment his dear friend stood in close proximity. Hyuk’s about to ask what brings the Professor here, what led him to place affection on his cheek, yet he’s abruptly pulled into a hug, one that makes the folder from detective’s hands fall off from grasp; sheets within carelessly flying away and landing on the floor. 

     The embrace is warm, but it feels odd. Ghostly, light; like a projection of the real thing. His hands hesitatingly fall onto Patrick’s back, chin landing on best friend’s shoulder. He frowns, feeling the smoothness of touch against his hair; something he secretly adores. 

    “Go? What are you talking about?”

     A chuckle that holds doubt escapes him; pulling away from hug so he can see Patrick fully. 

    “You’re here, why would you---”

     Wait.       He stares at his best friend, slowly blinking.      Wait.       Hyuk looks down; one of the sheets facing up.       His heart shrinks.

    A picture of Patrick is attached with a clip. There are other photographs loosely scattered; images of ashes and destroyed items --- pictures of a crime scene. In this sheet, there’s the basic profile of a victim. Patrick’s date of birth, which he knows by heart and...his date of death. 

    Cause of death: Fire; ruled accidental. 

     “No, no---Patrick, you didn’t---”

     With widened eyes, desperately reaches out to hold Patrick’s shoulders, but he only feels air. He looks up ----- Patrick is no longer there.

     “Patrick? Patrick? No, no, you’re not, you---Patrick,”

     His chest feels constricted; eyes begin to get teary. He runs to open the door, he must be there, right? Wrong. There’s no one outside, just an infinite corridor of despair. 

     “PATRICK!” 

     A loud gasp; a hand pressed to his chest. Hyuk wakes up, feels like he’s been underwater for too long and is just coming to surface. Tears stain his face, the only thing he could bring back from his dreams. Breathing heavily, he tries to stand up, yet he’s too shaken to let legs handle the whole weight of his body. Upper body leans in; a hand starts to smash the wood of desk, over and over and over and over again. 

     Don’t cry.      Slam.       Don’t cry, don’t cry; don’t---      Slam.       More tears start flooding his eyes.      Slam. 

   The pain is unbearable. Truth is, it always has been, he just knows how to tightly save it inside. However, there are days where ache conquers him at times, getting a hold of his entire senses; making him shut down. He cries, just like the first time the weight of Patrick’s death came toppling down on him at once. He sobs, he laments, knowing that what he’s doing will never bring Patrick back.

   Maybe the Black Knight was right, after all.     No matter if he clears Patrick’s name, no matter if the culprit gets what they deserve...it won’t bring his best friend back. None of it. 

   “Dae-yah,” 

    amid blurry gaze and trembling hands he calls for him, but he knows he won’t get any answer. Shoulders quiver; reddened fingers slipping away from the desk. Hyuk bends into a crouching position; pressing his forehead against his knees and staining his dark trousers with tears. Hell, it hurts. It hurts just like the first time, perhaps even more nowadays.  

   “I---I miss you. I miss you so much.”

What is on your Nancy Drew s4 wish list! What do you want to see next season? How do you think the bodies, the curse, the sketchy couple/Ryan, the Drew Crew’s sort of split/coming to their own and the fortunes will play out? What supernatural hijinks do you want to see the crew to get involved in and what are your hopes for Nancy/Ace??

okay hi i wanted to take the time to actually answer this so sorry for the delay! this is such a good question and the short answer is honestly i don't know!! i feel like i've spent so much time processing what's happened i haven't really thought about next season.

so let's do it now in real time!!!

i'll start with the curse. i don't think it'll go down much like it did in my fic, but there are elements of that i WANT to see--namely, nancy getting help from the crew to solve it instead of stewing in any kind of self-sacrificial bullshit. ideally, she seeks out their help directly instead of them getting involved after they accidentally find out.

i'm really hoping it gets resolved relatively fast! not like everything being solved after two episodes, but i'm thinking like, 2-3 episodes max just for everyone to get on the same page, and then the actual cursebreaking can take longer. still, i would hope it was broken by a little past the halfway mark of the season. i think if it's much longer than that it's going to get old, but i do want to get some good pining and angst and an actual sense of stakes in there.

like, pining ace who truly thinks nancy doesn't love him and sad nancy who's actively lying to him? i have no interest in that. boring. overdone. useless. out of character. HOWEVER, pining ace and nancy who KNOW they love each other but KNOW they can't act on it? pls. i'll take 1000.

i have like no theories about the bodies thing. i am so bad at theories rip. one thought i have though, is that i don't know if this will be the start of a series-long arc or a one-off mystery. i'm actually kind of leaning toward wanting it to be a one-off, the start of a string of more independent storylines throughout the season, with something else (probably the curse at least for the front half of the season) as the overall arc. i figure it probably won't go down that way, though, and this will be the sign of some new big thing.

i think the sketchy couple probably will stick around. i feel pretty ambivalent about them, but i think this could definitely be a cool opportunity for the crew to interact with more folks who are deeply rooted in the supernatural shenanigans besides hannah and, like, frickin gil. i kind of want them to be non-evil despite the sketchiness just because everyone seems to think they're going to be a problem (which is a fair assessment lmao).

as far as supernatural hijinks i want to see? literally anything!!! i love hijinks! i've seen people talking about bodyswapping and i would honestly die for this that would be so amazing.

i also think there was a bit of a missed opportunity to do more interesting small-scale mysteries with all the stuff that escaped the historical society and all the weird stuff from the bobbsey storage locker. i'd love to see any of that come back!

also, more ghosts. i'm ghostmaggie. i'm big on ghosts.

i will go on the record as being very ??? on the fortunes/tarot thing. i honestly just don't get it. i'm not sure if we're supposed to think the fortunes have already come to pass, or if they're going to happen in the next season, or both, or if the people shown during the voiceover are the ones who apply to each, or??? i find myself struggling to feel investment in it because i'm confused, which i recognize is a me problem lol. at this point i choose to believe temperance was just making shit up because i think that's funnier.

nancy/ace. the biggest, hugest, most non-negotiable thing i want for them: no lying. no miscommunication. i want ace to know something's wrong (the writers have indicated he will, which, good). i want ace to not believe for a second that nancy isn't full of shit. i want him fully confident that she loves him and something weird is going on. self esteem for ace 2k22. i want ace to be able to tell nancy, look, i know something is up, but i know that we're going to figure it out. i want nancy not to try to veronica-mars it by herself and destroy all her relationships. like i said above, i want to see them wildly in love and resisting showing it. and then i want to see them break the curse and show it, with plenty of time still left in the season for some established relationship glory days.

one aspect about them i love: Does it have to be only one? Ugh, fine. I guess how much he sucks at being a villain? He is capable of being heartless when the situation calls for it, but he routinely fails to think the situation does call for it and that's veeeery interesting

one aspect i wish more people understood about them: I mean. Bad takes about JGY outnumber the stars in the sky. One thing I wish we talked more about is his complicated relationship with his family, which I feel often gets oversimplified. He does want to be a Jin, he'd never want to remain MY. At the same time, his mother drives his actions even more than his father. He's always walking a fine line between honoring his mother's memory and wanting to move up and away from his past.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character: He does things like choose the provenance of the tea he serves at conferences to make political statements. It's very sophisticated and clever. His target audience is not smart enough to get any of the messages. He still agonizes over the choices. (LXC, of course, finds A-Yao's choice so delicately intelligent, but he's the one person JGY doesn't need to impress anyway, so it's still pointless.)

one character i love seeing them interact with: I mean, my whole blog says LXC and NMJ, but I have to say I also go feral over his interactions with NHS. (And babies. Audiodrama my beloved)

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more: QS, of course. But also. I wish they'd thrown us a bone and let us see him with A-Song at least once??

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character: MS used to love poetry, as much as she could get her hands on. She didn't necessarily have the background to understand very scholarly pieces, but she had an ear for the sounds and a heart for the meanings. To this day, JGY cannot read poetry without instinctively categorizing them into pieces his mother would or wouldn't like. He has a bound volume of all those who she loved best, and another of some he thinks she would've liked if she'd ever read them.

one aspect about them i love: Congratulations, he loves people and it's incurable. This is much clearer in CQL than in MDZS but JC is deeply shaped by loyalty and attachments (LWJ foil, anyone? No?) and that for me makes him so much more relatable than he'd have been if he had other motivations that would fit in with his backstory, such as envy

one aspect i wish more people understood about them: He's not nearly as rude as people portray him as being. He's perfectly capable of noticing when he can or can't get away with being aggressive, and the moments when he can get away with it are fairly recent and far from universal. He's not nice like, say, LXC, but he's as polite as it's expected from someone in his position (which, again, depends on what his position in society is)

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character: From a very young age, he's adopted the coping mechanism of actively trying to commit to memory special moments even as they're happening. This is not a bad thing, until it suddenly very much is

one character i love seeing them interact with: JYL!! Actually I even thought of putting her down as "wish they'd interact more." Their relationship is supremely underrated!

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more: JGY. I've been into knowing more about their co-parenting shenanigans since I can remember. I wouldn't say I necessarily ship them, though, which also limits my options 😔

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character: I just love to imagine Sunshot era NMJ and JC. I feel like JC would have borderline a case of hero worship.

(IMPORTANT NOTICE: in this post I'll be talking about my works/my inspirations in general, not just stuff that has been done for this Fest!)

(Also sorry in advance for the very long post 🙇)

1. What work of yours challenged you when you were creating it? 

To be fair a lot of the recent stuff I did, each time for different reasons. Some examples:

The Good, the Bad and the Quartermaster (Q dealing with the shenanigans of various 00 agents): writing a fic in the Craig!Bond verse, based on something existing (Comms Chatter) and with a hard deadline (because of the Riverhouse Remix event)

The God is Dead (Janus reforms): managing to write a 100-word story, no more, no less. The point behind that is that I have the annoying habit of making fics way longer that they need to be—the most notorious example of that being a “short atmospheric experiment” that ended up as a 8K-word fic. You’ll find that one further down this list, btw.

Some Solace in the Void (and kinda Straight Up, With a Twist too—both spicy Alec/Xenia action): writing smut. Smut is stupidly hard to write, and I learnt it the hard way. No puns intended. Let’s say that I’m happier with my second attempt than my first…

Shadow Crossing (Bond confronts the ghosts of the Janus gang): coming up with consistent rules of the universe. Can’t tell you much more because spoilers… except that yes, this was the “short atmospheric experiment”.

My series of "Queering the Bond Characters" posts (see my Fest 2022 masterpost for the links): sexuality and LGBT topics are still things I'm learning to get comfortable with talking about, so that was quite a big thing for me to do.

2. What is a fanwork you’ve seen which gave you a new headcanon about a character?   

I guess my answers all will be lists, won’t they? 😅

From the top of my head, I can say…

Tastes Like Strawberries: Boris is in fact very gay, and he acts so obnoxiously/cluelessly around women in an attempt to hide it (the next entry helped refine that, actually)

The Queer Review of GoldenEye (does this count as fanwork? I’d say it does, as meta): DRASTICALLY changed my views on Alec and his relationship with Bond. Basically he went from “fiercely aromantic straight and can’t even imagine anything else” to “confused, clueless, deeply closeted bi and Bond is the love of his life. Also desperate for love and praise”. I’m not going to complain—all those new layers add even more delicious complexity to his character (though I reckon, I have to thank @prismatic-bell for pushing me further down that path 🥲)

The Land of No Surrender: if Alec was a bit more confident in his sexuality but still had intense spite against Bond, that's what would happen. Believe it or not, this fic made me question a lot of things.

These headcanons, especially those describing Lazenby!Bond as having “urges” for queerness and Dalton!Bond as aroace—a post that directly influenced this one btw.

3. Is there a fanwork that you really want to make, but you haven’t started yet?

There are mainly three right now:

an atmospheric/eerie piece revolving around Alec wandering in the streets of Moscow pre-GoldenEye, strongly inspired by the song Спокойная ночь (Calm Night) by Kino

for a completely different atmosphere, a sitcom-ish piece involving Boris playing Doom instead of working... and getting caught red-handed by the rest of the Janus gang

one final chapter for Missing Connection, because I'll be damned if this one doesn't deserve closure.

For those that I'm less sure about, I'd say Janus’ ghost trial (inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Trial, and a “sequel” to Væ Victori), some Bond/Alec/Xenia, maaaaybe some 00Q00... and honestly, a ton of other ideas 🥲

4. What fanwork of yours surprised you, and how?

I was about to say that it was hard to choose, then I just remembered one fic in particular—Let It All Out. While it isn’t the first fic I did in just one day, it’s by far the longest and most intensely emotional in that category. Basically I needed to scream in the dark that day, and it just… happened, you know. Q is just me in this—even the title makes no secret of it.

That being said, there’s for honourable mentions:

The Good, the Bad and the Quartermaster (again): I didn’t expect Q to be so easy for me to write. I should have known though: nerd, check. Working in IT, check. Cat lover, check. Not very comfortable with people, check. Tea drinker, check.

A Momentary Glimpse of Reason: if anyone told 2021 me I’d do a sweet, fluffy, unambiguous Bond/Alec drabble, I’d have laughed at their faces and said it was bloody impossible. Then it just happened all smoothly and naturally. How times have changed. In the same vein, these and these chibis.

5. What themes/styles/subjects are common across many of your fanworks?

Alec. Silverova's inexhaustible source of inspiration since 2007.

Okay, other than him. Time to get all serious and pedant, because I'd say...

choices and consequences

dealing with emotions you don't always understand (both of these first two are very big ones. My depiction of Alec (and of my main OC before he took her place in my writing) is almost all about them)

death and the afterlife (don't get me wrong, I hate killing off characters. Yet I have a growing number of ghost stories under my belt. And also other stories dealing with the fear of dying or metaphorical death)

Russia (consequence of GoldenEye making me fall in love with this country's history)

6. What other fandoms do you create for, if any?

None, but I’m a huge fan of Half Life and Miami Vice. And Berserk. And Ghost in the Shell. And… crap, a lot of stuff. But somehow none of these can take over GoldenEye (Alec, really) as the centre of my creative world. Two words: special interest.

… okay, maybe I should mention GoldenEye Rogue Agent. But is it really a different fandom? 🤔

7. Is there an artist that you like to listen to while you create? Or one whose work always inspires you?

To be fair, to create I need absolute silence—otherwise my mind will wander right off. That being said, music is always a huge inspiration of mine, as it pretty much is the best way for me to immerse myself in the ambiance/mood/emotion of what I’m writing. I listen to music as I do something else, and I immerse myself in my imaginary world. Then I get the vibe and put it on paper, if this makes sense.

So to answer the question, three big names: Perturbator, Pink Floyd, Frankie Goes to Hollywood. And then, a good metric ton of 1980s rock/new wave songs, synthwave(ish) stuff and miscellaneous soundtracks, because that’s just what makes me vibe.

As for writers/visual artists… I think it’s probably obvious by now that PennyFifer and I feed off each other’s more or less chaotic ideas. Best example of that has to be me writing Life’s Little Ironies within hours of him publishing Ghost Riders in the Sky. Then there’s 3NIGM4, who just stirs my urge for both drawing and (heavy) angst. I can’t really think of other people, to be fair… everything I like influences me, one way or another. It’s not really linked to who makes the stuff.

8. Share a fanwork that you’ve found yourself thinking about weeks after reading/seeing it.

Oof, hard one. I have to confess, I am not a very big fanfic reader (or reader in general, in fact) 😱

I guess I’ll just list the stuff I randomly remembered one day and had to search hard to find them again?

The Hanging Wood: very old fic, but whose premise stuck with me. Eventually I did Shadow Crossing, and I was like “oh wait, wasn’t there a fic I’ve read long ago with that vibe?” Yep, there was.

The fanart in Welcome Home, You’re No Longer Alone: spicy. Very spicy. But somehow, when the idea of maybe doing 00Q00 stuff made its way into my mind, it was pretty much the first thing I thought about.

Scars: a Chinese fic I randomly put in Google Translate and... ooboi, what a ride. Again, spicy (and frankly quite disquieting), but at the same time the take on Alec was so interesting.

Touch It, Stroke It, and Undress It (chapter 4 specifically): again, the portrayal of Alec here is. So. STELLAR.

007 Rogue Agent: thinking about it, I can’t not mention this one. Missing Connection, my very first fic (and incidentally the one I’ve written for 9. Friggin. Years), began as an answer to it. So if not for it, I probably wouldn’t have got into fanfiction. Wild, I know.

Real Fear: oh look, another Rogue Agent fic (I mean, there aren’t many of them in the first place). Sometimes I just have to revisit it, the vibe really hits something in me.

Strangeness on a Train: okay, I might have included this one because of a private joke I have with Fifer. It’s uh… probably the first explicit Bond/Alec fic I’ve read in my life? Let’s say I wasn’t quite ready the first time, but I have made my peace with it since then 🥲
