Alright, so. I've finally been able to fully read through all of Firestorms stuff up until new 52, and I am currently reading through that- THAT series is going to be another post for another day.
But rn I kinda wanna talk about my biggest problem with Jason's time as Firestorm.
And it all starts with Ronnie and Prof Stein. In one of the later issues of his run, when Ronnie and Martin were at the College, there is an entire arch about how they need to trust each other and not force the Firestorm transformation, because its like taking someone elses body and using it. They need to rebuild their trust, and they only become Firestorm is Prof Stein says so, or if someone will die otherwise if Ronnie doesn't act. (Ronnie also saves Cliff's life during this time) Long story short, the two of them set boundaries and try and work together again.
IN JASONS TIME- He just takes people, They wont remember anyways, he just body snatches left and right! HE HAS GOTTEN MULTIPLE PEOPLE KILLED DOING THIS- And like, he never learns! He NEVER talks to anyone about this and it's never mentioned! Random homeless person on the street? MINE- Oh He's annoying? Drops him to find someone else. Even people begging him to let them go he just doesn't!
THEN As the story goes on, Ronnie's friends find Jason and offer him help! First Firehawk, who awakens a piece of Ronnie still left in the firestorm Matrix (Or something) but he sacrifices himself so Cliff (Who became evil) doesn't go and hunt down Jason and Ronnie's families, Then Professor Stein, who gives up immortality and the secrets of the universe to help Jason, and lastly Mikhail who is here to try and help as well! And you know what? This picture right here should tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about Jason's era-
Everyone trying to work together, but Jason is off to the side sulking because he wants to do this alone. But gosh darn it Jason, Firestorm is a TEAM.
Side note, I still enjoyed Jasons era, it was fun and there were a few really good ideas there, it's just the body snatching and refusal to work as a team that gets me. (There's probably more, but like there's good stuff here)
#I wish they wrote him better#I want him in there joining the conversation#not just attacking because someone like Mikhail shows up with (Almost) the same powers#only reason it didn't end up with a fight was because someone else attacked them before Jason could get his own attack off#I like the idea that maybe at FIRST he was like âmm no team work with you guysâ#But like later on he would open up to it#But no#he's always like this#firestorm#dc#dc comics#ronnie raymond#jason rusch#professor martin stein#dc firestorm#Last thing I swear#Jason is just Okay with killing people???????#Like#he kills a BUNCH of people in FRONT of Ronnie who is like âDUDE!! WTF!??!!? NO!?!?!?â#Then Ronnie takes over and Jason does NOT like that-#And Ronnie basically breaks down how the villain they are fighting works and easily takes him out WITHOUT KILLING#He actually explains how the powers work#Then Cliff shows up...#Jasons era is WILD

Pretty funny/cool that metal sonic is the only character to have a past self and another past self to EXIST at the same time.
like sonic and tails had their classic selves sure, but the modern versions of them were also their present selves, they weren't sonic and tails from like adventure 2 or heroes or anything.
so it's interesting how metal gets TWO versions of his past self in the same white space but his modern self never appears like, ever in both games đ
#sonic#sonic the hedgehog#sth#sonic x shadow generations#metal sonic#metal overlord#metal literally took a power snooze while his past selves did all the work SHSJSHSH#and like how the fuck does this work space time wise SJSJSJSH#did classic sonic just...beat classic metal then metal overlord slowy faded into the timeline so shadow could beat him?#OR LIKE WHAT IF METAL OVERLORD FROM THIS GAME IS LIKE ACTUALLY MODERN METAL#and he wanted a chance to fuck up the timeline in some way and that's why his fight is different compared to heroes#we went from sky to sea he must've done SOMETHING FJFJFJFJ#and he talks even MORE high and mighty here too like he actually won here but shadow stopped his rain of terror last second#metal just wanted to be a goofy goober and go back to when he almost won and was the âtrue sonicâ and ACTUALLY win but shadow said FUCK THAT#c'mon shadow let my man rewrite history!!! smh smh#eh just a crack theory though#would explain why modern metal is NOT here SJJSSJSJ

EYES
this theory is explained more in detail in a post I wrote earlier,
what if fragments of Ai ACTUALLY dwell in people with star eyes since she's "become a star". What if she's responsible for the "white star eyes" (she and Kamiki both should have been, but he became the dark one instead) That's why Kamiki's been going after people with it... HE ACTUALLY WOULD BE ABLE TO FEEL AI BY RECLAIMING THOSE LIGHTS. HE COULD ACTUALLY BECOME CLOSER TO HER BECAUSE HE NEEDS THOSE "LIGHTS" - '"AI" - "LOVE" in order to have HIS eyes shine again the way it used to before he became tainted.
This guy's company's name is "EYES". He really must have needed it to "feel" , "get closer to" Ai and/or "increase Ai's presence" the way he desired because it IS HER in those eyes.
I've been trying to make sense of what Kamiki was actually trying to do. If this is so, then what he's been doing could actually have some sort of fruition. otherwise, it's nonsense. There must have been a reason how he was so sure he could feel Ai through what he's been doing. IT REALLY COULD HAVE HAD SUCH AN EFFECT.
#hikaai#hikaru kamiki#oshi no ko#oshi no ko spoilers#ai hoshino#this comic EXPLAINS NOTHING. what is this seriously#spoilers#there is no way they can explain every confusing thing there is!!!!#but I think they DO have to explain why and how the stars work that way!!!! I think it were to be Ai and Hikaru's powers in the first place#doodle#it matches up with their characters as well!! they're the gods responsible for bestowing such powers on people#so Hikaru could âget closer to Aiâ by collecting those back!! because Ai's ACTUALLY THERE DWELLING IN THOSE EYES. THE LYRICS IMPLY THAT!!!#oshi no theories#stars âdwellâ in people's eyes in this comic. Ruby's said something like that too. that something possessing Aqua seems to be gone after he#lost his star eyes briefly

It's crazy that people still uphold show!Sansa as a well-written character and pretend that liking her is the pinnacle of feminism when it would be infinitely more impactful to acknowledge her terrible and misogynistic writing. This is the same character who, while written by two men, was thankful for the abuse she suffered because it allowed her to grow. The same character who we had to be told was smart because the writers were too lazy to develop or show her intelligence. The same character who had to rely heavily on the men surrounding her and ended up accomplishing nothing on her own merit ( and no, thinking that she deserved to be Queen doesn't mean that she earned it). She is not well-written, she is not complex, and she is not a feminist character. Which is fine! If you enjoy her then good on you, but please stop pretending that she's something she isn't just because you feel the need to justify liking her character
#anti got#anti d&d#anti show sansa#anti sansa stans#like literally one of the worst written characters on that show because they tried so hard to make her the most important#while being entirely incompetent and their only method of doing so was to steal from other characters which ruined the plot#the only arguable achievement was defeating LF but even then it's written in the script that she had to go to Bran to explain things#/she rallied the Vale army!/ no she didn't đ she wrote a letter to LF and he did everything. instead of showing her arc in the Vale and#her learning about politics to rally them herself they took the quickest route to give her a /badass/ savior scene#which only ended up making her look selfish + power-hungry for putting her brothers' lives at risk for not telling anybody about said lette#and idiotic in the aftermath after relying once again on LF even though he was very obviously manipulating her#/pawn to player/ sounds catchy on paper but without seeing that growth/development it doesn't work#Arya was terribly written but at least we /saw/ her training in a way we never did with Sansa#and people try to apply this same logic to the books and think she's gonna suddenly spring forth as a political mastermind#when that's not how George writes...we see characters develop and make mistakes on page and get actual earned growth#feminism isn't defending the writing of two men who gave her a rape plot not in the books because they thought it was /interesting/#when the only aspect of that plot they adapted was a woman suffering abuse :/#and as per usual with stansas their only /evidence/ of her being well-written is accusing you of being misogynistic if you don't like her

Even with TBOB and thisisnotawebsite.com there's... Still so much we don't know about Bill. Like ok yeah he's given a tragic background, we know a bit more about his henchmaniacs, but we really don't know a lot. Like, what happened directly after he accidentally destroyed his dimension? It isn't said. Sure time baby KNOWS about Bill's destruction of his dimension, but it seems like he didn't show up after Bill's dimension was destroyed to apprehend him because he only knows about Bill after Bill tries to make a deal with him, causing Bill's wanted poster. And how did Bill become basically the overlord of the nightmare realm, and gather all his henchmaniacs? Like there's a good period where we just don't know. And it's implied he's shocked and horrified (likely even dissociates, since he does that) after he destroys his dimension. But his characterization doesn't seem by that point to be one that immediately goes into a self-destructive, violent god-becoming maniacal spiral of self hatred; it's more one to be overwhelmed with grief and spend a good long time in the midst of his grief, then necessarily he's about to DO anything. And generally speaking trope wise, there's steps missing; typically in this sort of scenario, the usual progression is this:
characterized as monster due to being different in some way
tries to prove their not
ends up hurting someone anyways
gets further villainized, and antagonized by others
Acceptance of being a monster, and goes okay? You wanted a monster? I'll be a monster.
Now this fits Bill's early life, up to number 4, but we don't know what happens immediately after. It's possible he just went into his spiral immediately after, but it feels wrong, because it is missing the part of someone further villainizing him beyond himself which causes him to lash out due to the expectation (and internalized) idea that he would cause harm. I'd assume maybe some kind of interdimensional authority showed up and accused him of purposely trying to kill his dimension, which triggered his "okay, then I'll be a monster", or even a situation where his 'monstrosity' through the badge of killing his dimension is garners him respect. Considering that his henchmaniacs are chosen out of monstrosity and violence as a badge of honor, it feels very much like this would make sense, except none of them really know about Bill's dimension. He doesn't brag about the violence of it; he only calls it a liberation, contrary to the idea that Bill ever used it to gain clout. Instead, it's more likely that an interdimensional authority showed up and accused Bill, except from circumstances, it doesn't seem like it was Time Baby, so not sure who it would be... but at the same time, that expectation is often required for the character to truly embrace their 'monstrosity' and become truly violent. Or perhaps it was delayed after the destruction of his dimension, later when he begins to run with his henchmaniacs and disregards the law, but that also doesn't feel satisfactory for character development. Or perhaps I'm just overthinking this trope...
Also, how did he have his powers? Some is clearly stuff he's always had; pyrokinesis from that one rhyme, the ability to see into 3d, and he was somehow able to destroy his dimension by whatever he did to let Euclydians see the stars (telekinesis?), but beyond that? Was he always all-seeing? How did he become a 'dream demon'? Are his deals actually binding or does he lie? Are these things that he acquired later, because Euclydians seem to be written about as if they usually don't have any of these abilities, nor the abilities Bill is known to have when young, nor did Bill seem to be able to be all seeing when he was younger. Plus, how was Bill able to survive the destruction of his dimension, if he's technically made of the same stuff as everyone else, who all seems to have a physical form? Why then does he seems to be characterized as a being made of pure energy and thought; is that just in Earth's dimension, or does he have a physical form within the nightmare realm? There's multiple things that are contradictory about his body (mouth-eye, yet talked about removing his exoskeleton to feed--not sure exactly when this was mentioned--plus his mouth located under his bricks and bowtie in his exoskeleton in journal 3). But he seems so thrilled by his physical form though on earth, and we know that physical forms exist within the Nightmare realm as Ford was in it... yet it seems like hes characterized to have no physical form, so did he perhaps lose his physical form when his dimension died? Did he technically die with them too, but with his powers was able to survive essentially as a ghost like he tells Dipper you become without a body?
#hugin rambles#hugin rambles gf#bill cipher#the book of bill#tbob spoilers#thisisnotawebsitedotcom#gravity falls#gravity falls meta#bill ci the triangle guy#theres so many questions and i get part of it is just not explained and likelye never will be and thats also FUN to play with#but its also super curious because there is a v large time where you DONT know a pivotal part of Bill's existence. like he presumably also#dated a howling void? when does that fit in or is it another bit?#but like... the implications about his power and his form and euclydia burning. like fuck#also putting my chips on he was accused directly after and escaped the authorities. and has been chased since and he was like well okay ill#be fucking monster then actively#although it is an interesting thought experiment if it was slowly over time it snowballed into him having a god-complex#also like LOVE getting into how magic works. like okay tell me the technical details. fanfics which go into this i devour with delight#is he an actual demon or it is it just classed as he makes deals? are these deals binding? is it also something that then peovides hik with#power in that sense? oughhh so many good questions.#trying not to feel like Ford excitedly pulling out a clipboard to record all my theories and failing whoops#also like im aware parts of this will be not accurate and perfectly smooth for Bill's powers and char development because its always been#predicated on whats funnier rather then it being a self-formed idea fully fleshed at the beginning of the series

(XÄ«n YĂĄ belongs to me, Sailor belongs to @crow-cap)
#some of these are kind of out of context so Iâll explain a bit djshdhshs#XÄ«n YĂĄâs fruit are âorangesâ but this could also mean fruits like tangerines and clementines#their taste also changes depending on XÄ«nâs mood. it does taste like orange but it could be sweeter or sour. if you get them really mad it#could be spicy somehow.. however the fruits healing powers and taste only work if youâre within a certain range of XÄ«n YĂĄ. if u try to leave#the island with a shit ton of her fruit you just have a bunch of regular oranges. so you canât just grab a bunch and save em for later exp#expecting it to work. although crow told me Sailor would take some oranges with him fully knowing they would end up being regular oranges#once he leaves. the idea of him taking them as souvenirs makes me cry EVERYTIME#LIKE CMON.. XÄȘN IS SO USED TO BEING USED AS A TOOL TO HEAL PPL OR SERVE OTHERS SO JUST. ACCEPTING EVEN READILY TAKING THEM#WITH YOU KNOWING ITS NOT GONNA DO SHIT IT JUST REMINDS YOU OF HER.. OUGGHHFFFFHHHH#on that note since sailor is their first friend itâs very fun watching their interactions dhfhsh. Sailor has actually been around and#might even have a social life so XÄ«n is learning a lot of new things sjfjfs#bc of that XÄ«n is probably possessive of him and hates it when he leaves. sailor asking them to come with him would also be a good chance to#show them how to ride and sail a boat so they can come with him but their reclusiveness outweighs that. sorry sailor shfhfsg#I lov themb#myart#my art#doodles#Lego Monkie kid#lmk#Monkie kid#lmk ocs#lmk oc#XÄ«n YĂĄ#Xin Ya#little sailor#friend oc#my oc

Fandom: Alias Song: Not Strong Enough by boygenuis Summary: Examining Sloaneâs role in the lives of Alias women. Content warnings: Character death, violence, torture, needles, flashing lights
#aliasedit#alias#sydney bristow#nadia santos#allison doren#emily sloane#irina derevko#arvin sloane#userthing#fanvid#myedit#another video that branched out from an unfinished big project#so while working on my video about alias women i realized that i have enough material to make an alias women + sloane video. so i did!#the second half of it is supposed to seen as the opposite of the first half. it's sloane who wishes he were special but isn't.#he wishes he were rambaldi's chosen one and he wishes he could get visions directly from rambaldi the way nadia can.#and he wishes he were immortal (but allison cheated death first).#and he wishes rambaldi knew of him the way rambaldi knew of irina - irina's name spelled out in multiple rambaldi's messages.#he wants to be special but he isn't. and when you spend your entire life trying to become someone you're not;#trying to become special and trying to possess very special people. that has to come from a place of a deep self hatred.#(i used to feel sorry for you. could you sense it? i pitied you - that you needed to fill the void in your life.)#that said. making allison immortal back in season three could have changed the game.#making nadia learn how to control the powers rambaldi gifted her with and use them to help others could have changed the game.#giving irina's obsession with rambaldi an actual narrative weight; explaining why/how it all started for her could have changed the game.#instead all of it went to sloane. it's sloane who's at the center of all of these stories.

in my beautiful version i think hunt offered claire the lead role in the last duchess in 2016. i love nepotism and cronyism <- thatâs their entire relationship if you think about it. but she refused it because: 1. sheâs very proud and 2. she actually wanted to build her career first. i think her acting career is literally the only thing in her life that she would not take the easy road. itâs something too dear to her. and well itâs basically all she has. i think claire would hate to have her career defined as a directorâs lead actress from that point on instead of a lead actress in a movie period. maybe when sheâs more established he can put her in whatever film he wants to. and he will. but anyway she only accepts the role after she gets her first oscar nom in 2018. notice how his loser ass waited three years (release date in 2019)
related to this as well, i think claire would hate to be known as huntâs something in general. thatâs one of the issues she had with marrying him. i mean barely anyone knows theyâre together anyway before they get engaged. i do think this is something that kinda stems from the genesis of their relationship, but itâs also a claire thing. like i said, sheâs very proud. she gets his surname but you will Never see her referring to herself as Claire H*nt or using his surname in any shape or form. i wonât either. it feels super weird who even is this person. not my beautiful princess Claire Swanson
#oc: claire swanson#huntclaire#about hunt and claire being very weird about their relationship once theyâre âpublicâ is that theyâre not public at all about it#if you remember the divorce post. i explained their weirdness there. divorced couple who never divorced and you actually donât even know if#theyâre together or if theyâre just weird like that. worldâs biggest mystery#anyway i think as much as claire had grown tired of dating him in secret both of them kinda grew used to. like. being private about it#i think thatâs natural for hunt but i think with claire it really plays into her proudness + it bothers her how she#canât subvert the power dynamic. lol. because thatâs her entire thing. right. iâve listed some of the men she dated. she likes putting them#in situations and making them push their boundaries. so like thatâs what this guy does when heâs her professor but once heâs not anymore#whatâs sheâs gonna do about it. i think the divorcee act does it for her. weird woman#<- anyway this relates more to the second part of the post than the main thing abt it which is her role in the last duchess#which is the only rcd thing youâll see me using. + also kinda how her dynamic with him works if slash when they work together.#maybe these tags shouldâve been a post on their own but oh well

I keep being genuinely surprised when I see other people play disco and get frustrated that people are so reluctant to cooperate I get stonewalled by Elizabeth and Iâm like go girl give us nothing
#disco elysium#what could be cooler or sexier than a healthy distrust of cops#like#idk something in my brain is *very* aware of power imbalances#*especially* when they work in my favour#so having the characters just clearly and unapologetically assert their rights is a relief#otherwise I spend too much time trying to balance actually progressing the game with trying to#beat harry's dialogue options into something that doesn't blatantly overstep boundaries or involve manipulation#even talking to like... everart or the sunday friend is nice#because it's like oh okay I'm on the defensive here#I can sit back and relax and treat this as a fun little puzzle to figure out their goals and motivations#huh that's probably why I like Jean so much actually#idk how to explain it but like... as distainful as he is he treats harry very much as an equal rather than an authority figure#same with CUNO to some extent#the same is kind of true of the drunks but idiot doom spiral is annoying so he doesn't count#anyway are y'all proud of me i finally made my own post it only took an hour

This is "The Doctor", a resident of the nightmare realm, who has been there long enough to have been almost completely corrupted. His face is normally just a pitch black void hole but sometimes you can see eyes and/or teeth in there
He wants to help people, but he's almost completely lost his mind, and can sometimes act a bit... Feral.
Surprisingly, the nightmare realm's usual effect of making people lose every memory of their life before they ended up here, hasn't managed to take away his medical knowledge. He's still very smart, despite everything.
Unfortunately he seems to scare off most people who he would otherwise have helped...
#my art#Ok okkkk so this guy is from the world in my mind I live in parallel to reality#But I wanna make some of the guys from there into ocs too because they're neat#Love this guy. He's kidnapped me several times (LMAO ok there's context but I'd have to write a damn novel to explain that)#Oh and the nightmare realm isn't the world in my mind. Well it's a dimension in a multiverse I travel in there#But uhhhhh I spend basically all my time in the nightmare realm now bcause I like the vibes#But before that... I just spent time with various video game characters#Asriel from undertale became a scientist that created dimensional portals. And we kinda found the nightmare realm on accident#We don't talk much anymore but y'know. Every once in a while I'll visit#Last time though he had been forced into working for an evil agency that was trying to harness my demi-god like powers#Because in the universe in my mind I'm a shape-shifting horror that cannot truly die (I respawn)#I actually nerfed my own powers in-universe because I hadn't been to responsible with them in the past#Well I gave the ability to regulate my powers to a sort of evil-ish counterpart of myself (void)#And then we made a deal to cut eachother's power down to a reasonable level#And now neither of us can re-acquire that dangerous level of power#Uhhh. Isn't that kinda how the things in harry potter work? A vessel with a chunk of your power in it? Idk#Anywayy_yyyys#Void decided to do some trickster shit and tried to absorb me for my power and become a god recently.#So I was like ''ok no more chances bitch'' and finally reduced her to a basically mortal form and banished her#To some random dimension I probably won't ever go to.#(She's been a problem for yeeeeaaaarrrrsss but we were occasionally chill so I didn't wanna do it but y'know.)#We even kinda accidentally had a magic-baby??? Sorta? There's no better way to explain that one but yeah idk where that chick ran off to#Y'know I refer to void as she mostly but she's kinda just whatever she wants to be in the moment. Fucking chaos incarcerate#Her original job was absorbing forgotten ideas. Characters or concepts or entire worlds fogotten by my mind#Woukd become part of her#UUhhhhhhhhhhhhhm.#Oh and void was in charge of the evil organization that wanted to harness my power.#She had possessed the leader of some government scientist lab thing.#And. Well. Yeah.#Congrats to anyone who reads all this and I'm sorry for the brief glimpse into complete derangement

voicing how I get insecure over the fact that I canât handle horror as well as the bakurae can because iâm a wimp and having a 50/50 chance of being met with a response like âoh no thatâs fine!! that just means youâre more sane than meâ or âyou havenât seen nor experienced nearly the amount things I have but yes you are a wimpâ

Nothing beats finally figuring out a plot point that you got stuck on for over a month by having a little 2am writing session in bed.
#exe talkz#on writing#RoT#Never doubt the power of laying in bed and writing shit down - good stuff always happens in bed#I explain W03's backstory - he has to solve a seemingly unfixable problem by himself - because politics baby#It takes him 15 goddamn years to fix not only his reputation but his economy - but in the process he loses a part of himself#even though husband talked me through what I should do - the outline and how it actually goes are two entirely different things#now I can work on ~everything else~ fINALLY

Canât stop thinking about poly141 who get so wrapped up in their own bullshit they begin to neglect reader. So you leave đ€·đŒââïž
It wasnât a big deal at first. You understood that their jobs were intense to say the least. You own a bookshop, which in itself was exhausting, but you understood how they could get carried away with work.
You had excused the many delayed returned texts or missed FaceTime dates when they were deployed. When they came home, they almost always made it up to you. Showering you with attention and quality time.
But the past two returns home have been⊠different.
Usually at least one of them made a beeline to your shop or your loft if it was too late in the evening. You always held your breath when it was just one of them.
âTheyâre okay.â Was the usual answer. âEveryone made it back okay.â It was only then that you could melt into whoeverâs hands you were in.
After one of their recent returns home you had voice to Price that you didnât appreciate several days passing after they came back and no one had bothered to tell you. He had snapped. Arguing that a mission doesnât finish just because they land back on soil. There was paperwork and debriefing to be done. If and when they wanted to see you they would.
He didnât apologize until later. Crawling into your bed, using one of the keys you had given them. Blaming the stress. How they had almost lost Johnny for the reason of his outburst. What else could you do but forgive him?
So you had given them space after that one. Not holding it against them to decompress before seeing you.
The next time was the final straw. Solidifying how little they cared about you and how much power you had given them.
Johnny had come in around 7 one evening. He was dressed nicely, for civilian standards. You were reading a book on the couch when he had let himself in. You were wearing on of Simonâs sweatshirts and panties. He took you in for a moment before scooping you up.
He fucked you absolutely stupid. Adamant on having you cum on his tongue, his fingers and his cock. You were only able to bask in the afterglow of him filling you up before he started pulling his pants back on.
âWhat are you doing?â There were times that you would practically need a crow bar to get Johnny detached from you just long enough to relieve yourself. You had gotten many a UTI courtesy of Mr. John MacTavish.
âDinner with my family tonight.â He explained by the time he was already buttoning his shirt. âThe youngest just graduated and maâ feels the need to go all out.â Now came the tie. Johnny was actually wearing a tie. To go to dinner. âA fancy dinner in London.â He huffed. âMeanwhile Iâm out scufflinâ with bloody fuckinâ terrorists and I get a pat on the back.â He gave you a peck on the cheek before heading out the door. Promising to call you later.
You just sat in your bed. Still naked. Almost in shocked. He had fucked you and just⊠left. You were close to a panic attack as you called Simon.
Simon wasnât the one to cuddle and coddle. But there was something so soothing at the sound of his voice or even how his heavy body felt perfect laying on top of you. Yes. Simon wasnât the time to lift you up with words, but he was your own security blanket. Just having him close helped.
âCan you come over?â It wasn't unusal for Simon to be the one to come later in the evening. Insomnia was a bitch to deal with and you could sleep through the sounds of whatever he played on the tv. Most of the times you were content laying your head on his lap as he ran his hand along your head as if he were petting you. It was a bit cringe, but it knocked you out every time.
âWhatâs wrong?â He asked. The low timber of his voice already calming you.
âJohnny came over.â You sniffled. âHe just fucked me and left.â
âNot surprised.â He scoffed. You could almost see him rolling those deep brown eyes of his. âIf you wanted to cum, Iâm happy to come over and help.â
For whatever reason, that only seemed to make you more upset. âYouâre not listening.â You said, trying to spell it out for him. âHe left. Like didnât even stay and cuddle just left. Fucked me and left.â
âThatâs why youâre calling me crying about?â He almost seemed⊠annoyed.
âYes!â You said, nearly snapping. All of the tension from the last several months coming to the surface. âIâm not just a warm body to keep a bed cozy until you assholes decide you need to get one off.â Assholes. You called them assholes. âThis isnât what we agreed to.â
âJohnny is Johnny.â Simon tried to defend, not really caring to continue the conversation now knowing that you weren't in any sort of physical harm. âHe wanted his dick wet and from the sound of it, thatâs what he did. Donât hold it against him because he had other things to do.â
âItâs not just Johnny leaving.â Your throat felt like it was tightening. A telltale sign you were close to crying. Whether from sadness or anger you weren't entirely sure. âThe only time any of you want anything to do with me anymore is to fuck.â You missed date nights and lunches. You missed texting any and all of them about your day, about theirs. About new books. You had been trying for months to tell them over dinner one of your books got picked up. Yours was being traditionally published.
None of them had bothered to even try penciling you in.
âYou got yours.â You heard the popping of a can top. Simon was settling in for the night. Once he popped a top at home there was no getting him out. He wasn't coming for you. âI donât understand what youâre bitchinâ to me about. Yeah, in the beginning we indulged ya a bit? Dressed you up, took you out. But you should have known spreadinâ them legs of yours wouldnât end with one of us puttinâ a ring on your finger.â
You didnât know what to say. What could you say? These were the men that pursued you. Initially, individually, but when tensions became to much they offered a solution. All of them. Four times the attention, of the affection.
Four times the love.
But also four time the neglect. Four times the amount of heartbreak and disappointment. Loving all of them meant putting yourself in a position to let each of them hurt you in their own way and they had.
John's constant state of snapping at you as if you were one of his men.
Johnny swinging by as if you were just a fuck buddy. Not even bothering to give a peck before leaving.
Kyle essentially ignoring you for weeks now. Ghosting you for hours or having to cancel on date nights last minute or claiming that he really did forget that the two of you had planned to meet for lunch.
And now there was Simon. Telling you that all you meant to them was what was between your thighs.
Spreadin' them legs of yours wouldn't end with one of us puttin' a ring on your finger.
None of them ever intended on making this into something more. That much was clear now.
You didn't know what to say to Simon. You couldn't think of a witty retort. You couldn't find the proper insult to whirl his way. You couldn't convey just how much his words had hurt.
So you did the only thing you could.
You hung up.

With respect, I disagree that the answer to proposition 2 is unambiguously yes. What's missing from your analysis is that our co-tagonists & deuteroagonist are ALL narrative parallels for one another, & all on v. similar arcs in S1. Ed, Stede, & Jim are all trying to escape from a past they no longer want to be part of & unbearable expectations toward a life where they can be accepted & loved as their authentic selves. Each has a source of friction from their old lives that embodies the restrictive values they're trying to distance themselves from, & which ultimately shames them into returning to their old lives. For Ed, this is Izzy; for Jim, this is Nana; for Stede, the Badmintons. Jim & Stede, after being drawn back into their old lives, receive council from a feminine figure with more emotional maturity than they (Jackie & Mary, respectively), & in so doing come to the conclusion the old life doesn't want them any more than they want it, make peace with laying the old life to rest, & joyously return to their authentic lives. Ed doesn't have that - or, rather, he's got Lucius, but the order of operations is wrong - Lucius gave Ed council BEFORE Izzy comes in with the steel chair to shame & threaten him back into his old life, & in this narrative, it's the last influence that bears the most weight. So before Lucius has a chance to give him additional council, Ed banishes the Voice of Reason from his life when he pushes Lucius overboard, & he is therefore stuck in the Old Life that he reviles. I hope that we can all agree that the Badmintons, while they embody the same colonialist & repressive, upper-class expectations for the correct performance of masculinity as Stede's father are NOT meant to be seen as a father-figure for Stede? And, that, when you add this into the whole tangle of influences/motivators being enacted on our heroes, that just because SOME of those influences are parental figures does not mean that parental status can therefore be conferred on ALL? With regard to the intentionality of the writers including signifiers that were meant to clue us in to Izzy position as a narrative parallel for Ed's father, I again have to disagree. DJenks said in multiple interviews that Izzy being a father-figure to Ed is not only something that didn't occur to them until they were breaking the last episode of the S2, but that the father-figure relationship is something that exists only AFTER Ed shoots Izzy. "He went from a troubled & downtrodden employee to a jilted lover to a discarded employee, to someone that is just trying to find his footing againâno pun intendedâto actually becoming this guyâs parental figure on some level." "on the other side of the ego deaths, weirdly, Izzy is a father figure to Ed... The character is kind of a jilted lover who then becomes a maimed & discarded employee & emerges from that into being a father figure" "There is a nice parallel to have Ed treat him so badly at the beginning of the season & then come all the way around to where Izzy is this sort of father figure" Which is not to say this isn't something the writers weren't SUBCONSCIOUSLY including, the same way they didn't PURPOSEFULLY write Izzy to be a racist, but there are so many repeated instances of him displaying racist behavior, I wouldn't be surprised if "is racist" is one of those qualities that the writers subconsciously ascribes to the prototypical "bad boss" archetype. Ultimately, I'm not trying to talk anyone out of embracing Father Figure Izzy if they see evidence for it & found it meaningful. I'm just trying to explain why people like me do NOT accept it as a given, & why it has been alienating to be lumped in with blackhands shippers & izzy apologists, or told we are reading against the text, don't understand how narratives work, or are too dense to see the subtle hints that were clearly there all along.
i guess this is just another way of saying something i've tried to get at before, but when people say they don't think the father figure angle on izzy was set up in s1, i think they are actually conflating two different questions:
did s1 of ofmd portray ed as viewing or treating izzy as a father figure, even subconsciously?
did s1 of ofmd portray izzy's role in ed's life as a narrative parallel for ed's father?
i do think the answer to #1 is quite likely no, at least in terms of authorial intent. you CAN make a case for yes, but at best it would be extremely speculative. honestly the writing in s1 mostly strikes me as just not really very concerned about the question of how exactly ed sees izzy or why ed puts up with izzy's behavior. ed lets izzy get away with all that shit in s1 mostly for the same reason jim's able to teleport back onto the revenge in 1x10: because if he didn't the plot couldn't happen. his motivations for it i'm sure were discussed at some point in the writers' room but at the end of the day they don't really matter to the story s1 was trying to tell so they're left kind of handwavey. watching the ed-izzy scenes in s1 through the lens of izzy reminding ed of his father doesn't feel like actively reading against the text, but it does feel like you're just kind of making up a plausible answer to a question that doesn't actually have a canonical answer.
(david jenkins has said a lot of izzy's arc in s2 is about answering the question "who is he to blackbeard" and i think it's not just izzy himself figuring that out, it's the audience finding out for the first time over the course of the season as well, because s1 didn't tell us.)
the answer to #2 however is absolutely unambiguously yes. multiple people called this long before s2 dropped. i can think of at least six different specific people right here on tumblr who called out parallels between izzy and ed's dad explicitly during the hiatus after s1. a whole bunch more called out that the jim-nana relationship was very clearly paralleling ed-izzy, and obviously nana is not jim's literal parent but is nonetheless a parental figure in their life. these parallels are all very obviously intentional; jim's storyline, for instance, clearly had to be deliberately conceived from the ground up to parallel ed's (as well as stede's). the intentionality is especially clear when you look at the visuals - there are a bunch of visual callbacks to the flashbacks to ed's childhood in both the namby-pamby scene and izzy's duel against stede, and those callbacks are much too specific to be accidental, and they all very consistently place izzy in the role of ed's dad. there's a reason the line "i'm the kraken" appears exactly twice, once right after we see ed strangle his dad in front of a lighthouse and once right after we see ed choke izzy in front of a lighthouse. we also know ed's dad had a cut line "you're making my son soft," which, i don't know how you'd deny it if that was left in there. and yeah the line was cut (albeit based on what we know probably just for pacing) but somebody had to write it in the first place! they obviously knew what they were doing there.
djenks had this interview after s2 where he said something that surprised him as they storybroke the season was the idea of izzy as a father figure to blackbeard, and i believe him about that being a surprise, but i think fandom is doing something fans do a lot with creator interviews and interpreting that statement in a much more rigidly absolute and literal way than he seemed to mean it. i think what he's talking about there is question #1 - the idea of ed being aware on any level at all (even if only a subconscious one!) of izzy acting like his dad, of that being the motivation for ed relating to izzy the way he does, of izzy being one of a long line of angry white men ed has spent his adult life seeking out because of his daddy issues - that was a new idea that wasn't present in s1, that was probably a surprise. but that doesn't mean question #2 - the idea of izzy being positioned in the narrative as a parallel for ed's dad - was a new idea, it obviously wasn't. and in fact that already having been present in s1 is what led to the new idea of ed seeing izzy that way in s2. you're breaking the season trying to figure out what are the most important things to focus on for izzy's redemption and the role he plays in ed's arc, you realize izzy's role as a narrative echo of ed's dad is going to have to become much more centrally important than it was in s1, so you have to find ways to bring out that theme and emphasize it. and one of the ways to do that is to introduce this running motif throughout the season of ed seeking out angry white patriarchs who treat him a lot like izzy does and make it clearly an expression of his daddy issues. because that way when ed breaks down at izzy's apology and death it's a lot more clear to the viewer not just how he feels about izzy but exactly what deeper issue is being resolved for him in that moment.
#tumblr deciding I've used enough characters in homophobic actually#what is this the bird ap?#saying Izzy is Ed's father figure based on parallels with his flashbacks isn't satisfactory to me because one might just as easily say#Stede is Ed's mother-figure. Because the parallels are there for THAT interpretation too.#If Izzy in the duel is Ed's father in a rage then Stede is Ed's mother being attacked#Both Stede and Ed's mom have scenes with Ed where they confer meaning upon the red silk that stands in for Ed's relationship to High Societ#and his worthiness to possess fine things#Both Stede and Ed's mom are put in positions where their lives are in danger unless Ed intervenes#and in so doing he has to leave home and submit himself to a different kind of tyrannical authority that grinds him down#and robs him of his identity substituting their own.#Do I think these parallels are intentional or this is how we're meant to think about Stede and Ed's relationship? No - but they are THERE#Similarly I don't think Izzy as a father figure is a useful tool for understanding their relationship to me#'Behaves in ways similar to his father' isn't sufficient criteria for me to confer father figure status. That's not what a father figure IS#A father figure is a man in a position of power who elicits the kind of emotions one has or should have toward a father#Izzy in and of himself doesn't have power over Ed - he has to borrow it from others to force Ed to do what he wants#(e.g. - getting Fang & Ivan to back him up in the doggy heaven scene & calling in the Navy)#and Ed treats him like a subordinate - because that's what he is. At best he maybe tries to mentor Izzy like with the clouds#or share his enthusiasm about Stede's neat stuff like he's engaging a peer#But when push comes to shove - Ed WILL pull rank or exert his power over Izzy to get him to fall in line.#Compare this to how he interacts with Hornigold - a representation of an actual father figure.#How - even though he's an externalization of Ed's critical voice and manifestation of his subconscious - he exercises direct power over Ed#Not just physically like dragging him bodily along the beach & forcing him to eat - but also emotional power over him.#Like when Ed is trying so hard to impress him with his totally not run-of-the-mill mutiny.#And Hornigold is uniformly emotionally withholding of the praise and approbation Ed so clearly craves.#It's sufficient for me that Izzy is like a piece of equipment or software that doesn't QUITE work how it's supposed to#but you have a work-around that is good enough to get the job done & you're familiar enough with its quirks that you can deal with it#& it's not actually broken enough to justify the hassle of getting a new thing and having to figure out how to make it work#Again - not trying to change anyone's mind here. Just trying to explain where I'm coming from.#ofmd#our flag means death

đŁČ RILE HIM UP ! ft BOOTHILL.
â â your least favourite cyborg is brought back to you a mangled mess.
â OR
â â being boothillâs mechanic when you lowkey canât stand each other.
â ïž sweet sweet tension, a little suggestive towards the end, gn reader (no referring pronouns), can they fuck already, this was ib by his lightcone, wc 1.9k
boothill's eyes flickered to life, emitting a faint glow of red as his systems began to reboot.
a pair of familiar red pupils met yours, two crosshairs fading into sight as boothill regained his sight andâ to your dismayâ consciousness.
as the cyborg regained his motion he attempted a step forward, only to realise he didnât have the feet or legs to do so. the only thing keeping him powered on were some metal claws screwed into his back and a few loose cables connecting to your terminals.
âsugar plum,â boothill's scruffy voice cut through the silence. âdo y'care to explain where my legs mightâa run off to?â
you actually cocked an eyebrow. how the hell were you supposed to know? boothill was brought back to you in a mess of scraps and wiringâ the damn hunk of metal was lucky you made him as blast proof as possible and he was left salvageable.Â
âcare to tell me how the hell you got this roughed up?â
you asked in turn, crouching down to look at the detached and ruined internals of boothill's torso where the stand-in wires were connected. you ran a finger carefully along the edge of his shredded metallic stomach.
âguess i didn't make you as smart as i thought. time for a newer model, maybe?â
boothill's eyes flickered down to his missing lower half, then to your hand that was more or less caressing him. it was amazing how much annoyance they could show in all their artificial glory.
âlook whoâs talkin.â the cowboy grumbled, pointy fangs poking out in an irritated grin.Â
âhow âbout, âgee, boothill! iâm real glad yâainât get blown to smithereens beyond repair!ââÂ
âit would've been less work for me if whoever blew you up finished the job.â
you sighed as you stood up, putting a hand lazily on your hip.
âhowâd it happen?â
boothill bit back another argument with a gruff chuckle.
âsome real cutie-pies i was huntinâ down had a lilâ more firepower than i expected. guess they didnât appreciate me spoilinâ their party.â
boothill visibly cringed as his insult was substituted with some cutesy nickname mid explanation.
âand can you fix my beautiful synesthesia beacon already? this thing is drivinâ me up the wall.â
the request fell on deaf ears as your fingers typed something on your laptop, likely another string of code.
âyouâre more concerned about your censor than how long itâs gonna take me to put your legs back onâŠâ you sighed to yourself, still leaned over your workbench, eyes focused on your screen.
âi'm not touching it right now. youâre lucky iâm even letting you stay sentient after this.â
boothill snorted at the remark, brows furrowing in a steady grimace.
âwell, âscuse me for wantinâ to speak freelyâ iâm a grown man!â his pointy teeth shone as they peeked out again in a grin.
âyâknow what? just leave yer lilâ tools and all the pieces thereâ iâll get my legs back on myself. donât need no charity work from the likesâa you.â he laughed. âheck, may even give myself a new pecker while i'm at it!â
the mechanic had half a mind to listen, sit back and watch boothill struggle to reassemble himself just to prove a point and simultaneously bask in his embarrassment when the former realised it wasnât possible.
(not that he wouldâve admitted defeatâ you would have begrudgingly stepped in and helped before he inevitably messed up his wiring more.)
you stepped back over to boothill, hands moving to hold his cheeks so you could tilt his face side to side to check for any more damage.
âcool it, cowboy.â your eyes squinted in focus as they looked at boothill's, lightly tugging up on his eyelid to check for scratches or cracks.
âi'll get you back up and running, just lose the attitude already.â
boothill's eyes narrowed as he felt your touch on his face. the temperature difference of warm fingers on his cold, mechanical body stirring an oddity where his gut should have been. though he tried to ignore it, the sensation was there, clear as day against all his artificial nerve endings.Â
âreal easy for you to say,â he huffed, avoiding your eyes as he was examined like a broken toy. âletâs see how peachy you are when yer all strung up and legless, love muffin.â
that censor really was gonna drive him insane.
âjust get it over with.'' boothill muttered in annoyance. âand try not tâfuss anythinâ up.â
it took quite some time, as expected, for you to successfully reattach boothillâs legs and fix his mangled midsection. when you were finally finished, you tugged out any leftover wires that connected boothill to your terminals and pushed back in your wheelie chair to beckon the cowboy forward. you pushed your glasses up to your forehead, some hair getting swept out of your eyes with them.
âfeel fine?â
boothill rolled his ankles and bent his knees, giving his legs a good stretch to test their mobility.
âmighty fine,â he responded, satisfied to feel they were weighted and moved the same as before. âthough i canât say iâm lovinâ the breeze up my backside.âÂ
boothill glanced down at himself, steel body completely bare and lacking any of his signature clothing.Â
âgot my pants lyinâ around anywhere, sugar plum?â
you pointed to another table in the room, where boothills clothesâ (or rather the new ones you had to go and getâ) were neatly folded, his hat placed on top of them.Â
boothill went to get himself dressed, hoisting up his bell bottomed pants and sliding on his jacket. he stole a glance in your direction every so often, resisting the childish urge to roll his eyes at the mere sight of you.
the artificial man hit a small bump in the road as he went to zip his jacket (could you really call it that with how little it covered?) upâ his fingers werenât responding as well as they should have been. he could open and close his fist, but lacked the precision to pinch and hold the zipper.
âhey, honeybun,'' boothill called over to you with a furrowed brow. âdidnât i tell you not to go fudginâ anythinâ up?â
you, in all your overtired glory groaned, turning around in your chair and waving boothill back over.
âwhat are you talking about?âÂ
âmy cute lilâ fingers ainât workinâ thatâs what iâm talkinâ âbout!â
boothill's footsteps were clunky and loud as he stomped his way back over to his mechanic.
you reached for his hand, an uncharacteristic gentleness in your touch as you examined five mechanical fingers.
âmake a fist,â
boothill obeyed, curling his fingers into his palm.
âopen it,â
he obeyed again, letting them open and relax.
âhold up two fingers,â
boothill tried, but his fingers got stuck halfway into the motion, locking at the joints.
âson of a bitch.â you sighed, turning for one of your tools. âsit back down.â
boothill grumbled and went to hoist himself back onto the workbench.
âleast one oâus can say itâŠâÂ
âdo you want me to fix you or not?â
âi'm sittinâ ainât i??â
you pulled boothill's shirt off his left shoulder and popped open a tiny panel on the curve of his neck, sliding your glasses back on to the bridge of your nose. with a lean forward you began carefully looking at a few thin wires that filled the space.
boothill tapped his fingers against the tabletop while you worked, that same oddity as before settling in his now repaired gut. he rarely got messed up enough for you and him to spend this much time together, or for you to have to really be in such close proximity.
itâs not uncomfortable, but the feeling is by no means familiar. itâs actually a little embarrassingâ a galaxy ranger, a space cyborg and expert hunter, feeling almost flustered at some close contact like some kind of shy little girl.
âsomething the matter?â
boothill nearly jumped as you spoke up quietly to check on him, voice quiet and so close to his ear he had to refrain from leaning both closer and away.
ânah, everythingâs just dandy.â boothillâs voice followed yoursâ quieter and a little softer as a result of the closeness.
âyouâre sure?â you looked up from the small mess of wires, eyes glancing up at your cyborg over the rim of your glasses. âmight as well fix anything else thatâs bugging you while iâm here.â
boothill would have swallowed if he had the need to lubricate his throat. he shook his head, turning to look somewhereâ anywhere else.
yours lingered on him, albeit briefly, observing the clench of his jaw and the way he tried to shift in his seat without being disruptive to your work. he didnât see the little smirk tug at your lips as you refocused on the task at hand.
boothillâs cybernetic limbs felt almost human in their sensitivity, sending faux shivers up a spine he didnât even have. the mechanics fingers running down his forearm are doing him no favours as they move to hold his hand again.
âclose your fistâŠopen itâŠtwo fingers upâŠâ
each command was obeyed, ten gunmetal fingers finally holding up a little peace sign.
âthat should be it, come see me if they start acting up again.â
you stood up, tentatively reaching out to fix boothillâs jacket and begin to zip it for him.
boothill didnât protest the act, but it wasâŠconfusing, to say the least.
âreckon iâll just start seeinâ those auto bots again,â he leaned back on his palms as your fingers fixed his collar, straightening it out. âmuch as i love our lilâ visits.â
you only hummed, smoothing out a few wrinkles and neatly tucking his scarf into itâs neckline, as he liked. âyou could,â you mused, hooking your finger lightly into his collar and giving a gentle tug forward. âthey donât take as good care of you as i do, though.â
this time boothill caught the little smirk on your lips, clear as day and enough to make him question if short circuiting was possible.
youâre doing it on purpose, he knows. the careful touches to his hands and body against the sensors you put there, quiet voice leaving him with a frisson you made it possible for him to have.
boothill returned the smirk, albeit a little wobbly.
âyou tryinâa rile me up, sugar plum?âÂ
he entertained you with a lean forward, two white crosshairs looking right at you while he considered if a hand on your waist was too forward or the perfect cornering move.Â
âjust like watching you squirm.â
you were gone as quickly as youâd arrived, finger unhooked and going to pick up his hat.
âbut say i was,â you didnât bother with a glance over as you made sure the brim was straight and unharmed. âi hardly have to try.âÂ
boothill hopped down from the table, following your path and offering a scruffy chuckle when you reached up to place it on his head.
âyeah? and what makes yâsay that?â his hand found a place on his hip.
you didnât respondâ not verbally, anyway. a quick flick of your eyes downwards was all he received.Â
so he followed, looking down as well, to the very appendage he had insisted you give him over and over again pushing against his trousers.Â
his own dream, now his downfall.Â
boothill pushed passed you, pushing his hat further down onto his head while he stomped away. the profanities that left his lips filled the airâ or rather their replacements. something something i love you blah blah peach cobbler something cutie-pie or meow!
âremind me tâsettle for them lovely auto bots next time!â
he opened the door with a firm kick of his boot, stomping out with a scowl.Â
as if he wouldnât be back. you took better care of him, after all.
