i finally actually watched hazbin hotel and had the worst experience of my entire life so i redesigned the only good character

Husker: Reimagined

Character critique + explanation under the cut:

Husker is my 2nd least favorite Hazbin Hotel design, right after the radio demon himself. Husker’s design, however, ranks #1 as the most frustrating, based on this origin and the executive decisions made.

Throughout the wiki, Vivziepop is quoted referring to Husk as a “magician”, but watching the show, we don’t get that at all, not even from his design, which while it showcases a lot of card suits, still invokes more of a casino/gambler vibe than a magician. Even when he used playing cards as weapons in episode 4, it still came across as more of a gambling thing than a magician thing to me, so I am approaching Husk from more of the casino angle, with magic tricks being a footnote in his abilities.

I like how Husk is characterized as a “husk of his former self” - a dry-humored, secretly empathetic straight-man who’s good at reading people, all which are well-presented in the show. I think that he’s used too much as a tool for lazy expositing by the writers, so my version of Husk will be more of the strong silent type who is only speaks intentionally, besides grumpy grumbles.

As for his design, the magician/casino thing feels tacked on considering that he was originally an oc gifted to Vivziepop by her younger sister, favoring nostalgia over effective character design.

His design doesn’t feel like a professional character design, it feels like a professional deviantart OC. Not to imply that I am a professional, but I do believe that Vivziepop has poor and tacky character design sensibilities.

Besides his real-world origin, being a winged cat doesn’t seem to have anything substantial to do with the way Husk lived or died besides “hating cats” and a possible “death by falling” which feels so tacked on and lacking creativity, which is why I have opted to make Husk a manticore from myth and legend, to make sense of these design elements from his official design.

I chose to make Husk a manticore bc in my iteration, I see him being a ruthless casino owner with possible mob affiliations in life, reduced to simply being a gambler in Hell, where he regained power by dealing in souls which ultimately became his undoing.

The Manticore of myth is described as a man eater that swallows people whole, even the bones, which I think in this case could be a tongue in cheek way for how he treated people in life as a ruthless casino owner.

I think that gambling away his soul to Alastor would be humbling and would have helped him gain some perspective with how his victims felt in life and death, making him more quiet and withdrawn as a result, speaking only when he feels necessary. This makes what he does say have more weight, making interactions feel more meaningful when he opts to speak.

My biggest gripe with Husk, of course, is that he is voiced by Kieth David. Husk’s official design is not something befitting the voice of Kieth David. I suspect they cast him mainly for his singing voice, as the majority of VAs trying out for the role were only doing Rick from Rick and Morty impressions, as according to the wiki, Vivziepop cited Rick Sanchez as inspiration for how she’d like his voice to sound like. I don’t think Rick would fit either for the modern Husk, but his voice would definitely befit the original DeviantArt design.

Thus I decided to make a design for Husk that would be befitting for the voice talents of Kieth David, opting for a heavier, more boxy design, with 70’s inspired clothing (the era he supposedly died). I used more oranges and yellows for his color palette to cite his sins of Gluttony (orange) and Greed (Yellow/Gold), while also throwing in some green sheen in his black dragon wings and scorpion tail, to balance the everything out. I kept the tophat as I think Alastor would force him to wear it to hide the only part of Husker’s demon form that he actually likes about himself- his coif of hair (as seen in the flashback in Episode 4). Alastor would do this as a silly way to torment him.

I also kept his suspenders, and kept the card suits motif but much more subtly. The clasps on his suspenders are diamonds, his nose is an upside-down spade, the tufts on his ears and the white patch on his chin are vaguely heart-shaped, and I plan to make his paw pads resemble clubs. Not pictured is an Ace of Hearts tucked away in the brim of his hat.

I dont know how big or tall to make him, but I do want him to hold an imposing figure when compared to anyone sitting down at his bar. His wingspan is definitely going to be bigger than in his official design.

I personally am not a big HuskerDust fan, simply because I see them having as having a mentor/student relationship, with Husk being a glimpse into Angel’s future if he continues down his self-destructive path, and with Angel being a symbol of hope for the future for this old grizzled man.

Also, you can’t tell from the show, but Husk is canonically supposed to be in his 60’s??? I look to rectify that with visible crow’s feet and wrinkles when he emotes.

Part 6. Lucifer & Sera

Reimagined!Lucifer desc:

The former highest standing angel in heaven, created to grace others with his beauty, yet unable to create anything of his own. He could not bond with other angels due to his status, but saw himself in the first man and woman, both living in a bright, isolated, monotonous paradise. ↓↓↓

This is why he gave them sentience, so he can have someone who shared his plight. He was cast out of heaven for this selfish act, and cursed so that he never sees the faults within himself, making him lose the things most important to him.

That pride made his wife leave him and soiled his relationship with his beloved Charlie. Lately, however, he began to notice just how unhappy she was and offered to fix whatever problem she was having. Unfortunately, no matter how many times she tries to explain the issue was him, he's unable to comprehend it. Doesn't mean he's not trying, though.

⚜️🪽 Serael 🪽⚜️

Reimagined!Serael desc:

Despite what her name suggests, she is a newly appointed archangel, determined to take on her duties swiftly and flawlessly. She had come out malformed during her holy creation and overcompensates for it with her work, a fact no one would ever guess due to how well she hides it.

Here's where the AU's lore comes in: God is dead. Has been for a while. Due do this all the higher angels have either gone feral or developed dementia, leaving the archangels to rule over heaven. No one below them knows of course, but when Pentious gets sent to heaven, cracks in the status quo begin to show.

Emiliel is her bright and cheerful apprentice who works towards becoming an archangel as well. She loves her but is afraid of ever putting such responsibility on someone else, so she is exceptionally harsh to her. Too bad that little angel girl is resilience itself!

Haven't made Lilith or Eve yet because I want to wait for more info in s2, but I really like those two rewrites in particular, will probably just repurpose them into OCs in the future!

Hazbin Hotel Bake Sale🧁🍪

The 🌈Hazbin’s🌈 are having a bake sale! Last time it was a vendor fair!

Charlie’s in charge of the ticket station & offering a lil taste of what the fair has to offer(aswell as pilot reference with the cupcakes), Vaga’s got her own booth this time, selling semitas, a lil treat from her home🇸🇻, Razzle n Dazzle r helping sell the family brand🍎🍏, Angel shares some sweet cannoli, Niffty tries her hand with some Japanese Taiyaki & dango 🍡 , Husk & Baxter find themselves in yet another feud as they handle refreshments, Sir P shares some High-Tea treats & Alastor shares New Orlean’s classic beignets, that’s doing way better than the last vendor fair. Guy def needed the ego boost after that fall.

Husk-Ok the science experiments were one thing but this is getting kinda personal.

Baxter-Hey I tried to bake something but the guys in those hazmat suits took away all the stuff I was trying to bake for ��research” & “protection of my & other’s health & safety” & all that rubbish! This was the best I could make do with!

As you may have noticed, a lot of the gang went for stuff that connects to their roots!(Vaga-El Salvador, Angel Dust-Italian American, Niffty-Japanese, Sir P-British & Alastor New Orleans. Razzle n Dazzle r technically also doing that). 🇸🇻🇮🇹🇯🇵🇬🇧⚜️🍎 I like to imagine Baxter was going to make something from his origins🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 too, like Dundee cake or shortbread before he had to make do with lemonade 🍋

I can def see Charlie allow others to partake in the bake sale too like the vendor Faire!

Root Of All Evil|Roo Redesign

The clothes isn’t for me since this isn’t a scary majestic I’ve for her it’s just an emo character with patterns and pinkish red the coat and a hat doesn’t make any sense which year she came from.

I decided to make her a Minoan fashion due to being a centuries old and the opposite colour.

Root is an evil sentient spirit born from the decaying pomegranate tree from the Garden of Eden that been created from negative energy after Adam and Eve ate the apple or Lucifer and Lilith have been fallen down to Hell.

Root wander around to find a perfect body for her found a young female Minoan host crying that she’s heartbroken that her lover died.

Root used her whisper of deceit and lies to trick the girl.

“If as I Root will help you guide to Redemption I will help you cure your sadness.Trust me,Trust me! I am friendly.”

Everyday Root follows her everywhere she goes she wouldn’t leave her she kept whispering her ears and her parents worried why their daughter avoided them they couldn’t see root only the young Minoan girl could see her.

Root finally had a chance to steal the girl body after she died from illness as she possessed her dead body.

Root began to cause chaos over the civilisation by using overgrown plants to trapping them in,animals dying and turned greenery gardens to withered.

However a mysterious old woman comes towards Root as she begins the ritual to trap Root whet the plant begins to spread around her as she is trapped in the tree as the tree dragged her down to Hell.

The legend said that Root absorbs all the dead souls with her roots underground as she is asleep in her decaying closed trees that trapped her for centuries to regain her powers again.

Lucifer Vespéris

I really like this design. I wanted him to look really human (like, really REALLY human) because Humans are the cause of his fall, the reason hell was created in the first place, and Pride was the first sin, the most human of the sins.

I’m thinking he plays up the whole ringmaster thing to hide the fact that he cant stand the sinners in the pride ring. He has an assistant, a Birdlike hellborn, who attends the meetingd with the other sins in his place and is also kind of in a friends-with-benefits situation with him. There’s something else going on but neither of them want to admit it because neither of them think theyre able to be loved (Stealing the stolitz dynamic <3)

In the early days, his rebellion against Heaven was born of conviction, of a belief that his creation—the world, the stars, the very order of the universe—was something that deserved more than the cold, distant gaze of a God who seemed content to turn away. But the kingdom he now rules is not one of splendor or justice; it is a reflection of everything he loathes. The Pride Ring, initially a place where Lucifer imagined he could foster growth and change, has devolved into an unrelenting circus of arrogance, greed, and corruption. No matter how many times he tried to impose structure, no matter how many punishments or trials he devised, it was all in vain. The souls that filtered into the Ring only brought with them more of the same vices that led to their fall from grace. The hope that he could shape something meaningful here slowly faded as Lucifer realized that the Pride Ring had become a festering wound, incapable of healing, and more importantly, something he could no longer be bothered to fix.

What’s worse is the bitter realization that the rebellion itself, the very act that had cost him everything, was ultimately meaningless. The thrill of rebellion—the belief that defying God would lead to something greater—had long since faded. In its place was the crushing weight of eternity, a kingdom that was less a home and more a farce. The subjects he was tasked with leading, the very sinners he was meant to shepherd, were insufferable. Instead of a kingdom of wisdom or growth, Hell had become a cesspool of self-serving souls, each vying for a meaningless crown. He had become not a king, but a jailer, a performer in a circus of his own making. Heaven, in its indifference, had never even bothered to notice his plight, and Lucifer was left wondering if it had all been for nothing. The grand act he once put on—the battles, the speeches, the confrontations—meant nothing now. It was all a game of smoke and mirrors, a performance with no audience, and no applause.

And then there was Juno. The Hellborn peacock demon, ambitious and relentless, had always been by Lucifer’s side—an assistant, a confidante, and, in time, much more. Juno had always wanted power, had always craved the title of Sin of Pride, and when Lucifer finally tired of the charade, he simply gave it to them. Juno wanted it, after all, more than Lucifer did. It was no longer a title Lucifer cared for, and in his apathy, he relinquished it with little more than a shrug. Juno took the mantle, thriving in it with a hunger Lucifer had long since lost. It was a relief for Lucifer to step back, to let someone else play the part of the ruler, someone who was eager to take control and command the attention of the damned. In Juno, he found a reflection of his own former ambitions, yet he couldn't shake the nagging feeling that, somewhere along the line, he had lost the will to fight for them.

But Lucifer's greatest struggle, one that even Juno could not soothe, was the slow death of passion. Once, rebellion had been his fire; the fight for freedom had been his purpose. Now, even the acts that once thrilled him—the performance of the Ringmaster, the control over the sinners—felt hollow. He had lived for so long, and in that eternity, the act had become rote. He performed because it was all he knew how to do; not out of love for his role, but because stopping would mean acknowledging just how meaningless it all had become. The energy that once burned bright had dulled, and Lucifer could only continue, day after day, in the same monotonous motions, pretending to be the ruler he no longer cared to be.

There were moments, rare as they were, when he allowed himself to show the cracks in his performance. When the lights dimmed, and he was alone with Juno, Lucifer let the mask slip. Under the Forbidden Tree, which he had stolen from the garden as a trophy, they would sit together—sometimes in silence, sometimes speaking of things neither dared mention in public. The tree bore fruit, but it was infrequent now, much rarer than it had been in the Garden of Eden. Lucifer would gaze at it, wondering if it was a reflection of his own fading potential. Yet, under the cool shade of the tree, surrounded by the fruits of a past long gone, Lucifer found something that had been lost in the cold glare of his ringmaster persona—an inkling of what once was.

But even in these quiet moments, he knew there was no turning back. Lucifer Vespéris had become a king who no longer cared to rule, a fallen star who had burned out. He had made his choices, and now, all that was left was the performance. Whether he embraced it or not, it was the only thing he could do.

I had a crack at redesigning Alastor, just for fun NOT for spite :P

I try to base him heavily off of a radio host from the 90s since that's what he's suppose to be as well as heavily make him look more deer as well as give him more black features since he was lacking. As mentioned, his redesign is base on my edit I did on one of the screenshots of Alastor and I also try to make him a bit chubby because my god I hate the fact that most of the characters in that series is thin including Husk who I felt should've had a dad bod 😭😭 But overall, I'm actually please with how he looks, also I made this gif and the things floating around him are NOT voodou, their actually radio symbols because they fit him more and I (hope) they don't cause any controversy xd

But uhmm, yeah, here's the original design and once more, NO hate to Vivziepop I simply wanted to draw him in my art style xD (Speedpaint)

i wanted Charlie to normally look soft and friendly, so I gave her a softer body (chubby cheeks, tummy, and thighs) and a fluffy pixie cut, but i wanted also to convey the tucked away anger and fear within her by showing pieces of her more demonic form in her claws, horns, and chaotic eyes. she was given four goat-like ears and a long, serpentine tail to show that she was more than any sinner, and rather a being far more powerful and ethereal than at first glance.

for her clothing, she has a style reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s, as those decades were huge in the act of political and social change and their aesthetics are very warm and nostalgic.

Charlie has been alive for a long time, so while she was growing she used that time to educate herself on many topics. She has ten Ph. D.s in Psychology, five degrees in Architecture, and five in fine arts history. Despite Charlie's clear intelligence, she isn't always the most confident in herself, often letting others use her under the guise of being kind.

Reimagined!Husk desc:

An African American man from the 1800s who always had an infatuation with money, ownership and risk. When he was killed due to a bet, he quickly became an overlord, his name synonymous with power and greed. ↓↓↓

He opened up casinos and bars, traded souls, and soon owned almost the entire Pentagram city. Untill the day Alastor tricked him into gambling his soul away. He lost all his power, assets and even his colours, turning black and white like the rest of The Radio Demon's henchmen.

Instead of his schtick being 'the bartender who listens to everybody's problems' its more of 'the bartender who has done everything cool, weird and/or illegal you could think of and knows how to navigate any situation' (think Skips from Regular Show).

🧵🐞Niffty🐞🧵

Reimagined!Niffty desc:

Niffty was a housewife who accidentally killed her husband. Her comedy is in the niche of 'does something innocent in an unnerving/threatening way'. The inside joke is that she'll kill everybody at the hotel in their sleep, but that is immediately thrown out when they find out why she's in hell.

Her husband found her so annoying and clingy that he lobotomized her. She still had the capacity to do daily chores but couldn't focus on the world around her, so one day she accidentally pushed him down the stairs, breaking his neck. Her character's significance is that she was a trusting victim, but when the abuser's methods backfired, she had to shoulder all the blame.

Alastor didn't even need to claim her soul since she followed him everywhere. She claims he reminds her of her husband, but she does say that to every man she meets...

Damn, that one sure is pretty morbid, hopefully canon Niffty doesn't get to suffer as much!

Vagatha/Vaggie redesign, once again it is NOT made out of spite xd

As you can tell, I made her look more moth and I wanted to COMPLETELY fucking ignore the entire 'she was an exterminator' backstory because no offense to Vivziepop or anyone who like the backstory but I think it doesn't make sense or work..

Also, my redesign of Vaggie has a name changed, her name is Iris or Eyeris idk, the reason I gave her the name change is because I do not like the idea of naming a lesbian Vaggie or Vagatha especially when the name is literally taken from the word 'Vagina' but you got rid of the 'ina' and replace it either 'gie' or 'atha'.

Her design is heavily inspired by the old proto Vagatha designs (as well as a mix of the said designs) that Vivziepop had and the eyes on her wings are inspired by the old artwork of her that Viv had drew.

I wanted to make them look a bit more connected to their occupation and to look more like overlords. I also add a bit of eldritch touches.

I like the idea of the siners appearance has something to do with how they died like some fucked up joke. Alastor being a killer cannibal, who's been killed because he was mistaken for a reindeer (the whole predator becomes prey animal) and Vox being a TV host who was killed by a TV falling on his head.

I also like that Vox tries to look like Alastor in some ways like he wants to replace him.

I also removed Alastors voodoo stick because tried to find if voodoo has some evil spirit's or a evil god like being, you know a do not interact with this entity or you'll regret it type, but came out with nothing. So I decided to make his powers come from a different source. Maybe like Satan or that Root of all evil thing I heard about.

With Vox I wanted to make him look like he is from his time period but also he has no problem updating and upgrading his appearance. For example those bulky shoes can fly, levitate and walk on walls or his cuffs which can tell you the time, shoot lasers, transform into spiked fists and can take calls.
