Yesterday-The Beatles
I could go on and on about my love for The Beatles and the brilliant songwriting of Lennon and McCartney, but I will leave it at that there is a reason why "Yesterday" is one of the most covered songs in the history of music. What I think is really amazing about this love song is that Paul McCartney dreamt the entire melody one night, and after putting it on the back burner for awhile he finally added the lyrics to finish it. What I think is great is that McCartney wrote most of this song by himself despite one addition from John Lennon, which was the word "yesterday."

Strap on your racial sensitivity, friends, 'cause here we go again...these are the 50 most racist TV shows of all time.
I didn't post this to ruin some of your long-time favorite t.v. shows, but to get everyone thinking about how many races are underrepresented in television, even today. When we were talking about the HBO hit Girls in class, I started to think about the various shows that are still playing today that feature a predominately white cast. Two of which that made the list were Sex and The City and Friends. Both are favorites of mine, but they feature a group of people living in New York, and the fact that there are little to no African American or even Hispanic cast members does seem strange and possibly racist.

I really enjoyed reading how well Michael Hardt and Lauren Berlant kind of bounced off one another when talking about love and its non sovereignty. It's interesting how they both look at love as a political figure and the metaphor with love being compared to muscles was great, I thought, because like love, muscles tends to require work and exercise, and as Berlant said in order for a muscle to grow, tendons must rip. This thought could go back to the idea that in order for love to grow, there must be some compromises and changes.

After reading Lauren Berlant's text on love, I thought it would be interesting to see what other sources had to say about what love is and where it comes from, so I googled "what is love?" After getting past the endless sites of lyrics and youtube videos I came across this article that gives love a few different definitions by professionals from different backgrounds. I thought it was interesting that the philosopher described love as "a kind of passionate commitment that we nurture and develop" while the physicist describes love as uncontrollable because it is simply chemistry.

Yellow-Coldplay
This song can be interpreted in several different ways and that's what I like about it, it's versatile and can be related to a wide span of situations. In many ways, the song is about finding your first love and having the feeling of falling in a deep love with someone. In another way, it could be about a family member that you are proud to have apart of your life. Either way, this is a love song that can be dedicated to just about anyone and that's what makes it great.

After our discussion today about how we felt about the graphics of the sex in "Blue Is The Warmest Color," I thought it would be interesting to see why the author did it and stumbled upon this article. I think that it's funny that the author calls out the movie and says that she thinks of the sex scenes as "porn" and went on to say that even in the movie theater people were laughing when the scene was displayed. I guess if we do watch the movie, this is a good warning that if we felt uncomfortable while just reading the novel, we will definitely feel uncomfortable watching the movie. But isn't that what life is about, stepping outside your comfort zone to better understand the world?

Same Love-Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
I couldn't think of a better love song to add on here after the conversations we've had in the past classes trying to understand the LGBTQIA community. Queen Latifah said it perfectly, "this song is a love song, not for some of us but for all of us." When I first heard this song, before Macklemore had become a household name, I knew it was going to be big. He talks about the stereotypes that are given to people and how we fear things that we don't know. I chose the Grammy version because it just makes the song even more moving. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly suggest it.

This article breaks up what each "label" means, and also gives a good description of what queer really is. I thought this would be helpful to have because there was still a lot of confusion in class today during the discussion. It also explains what the I and A mean, which I thought would be cool for everyone to know as well.

I'm not sure if this can be considered an "article" but I found a pinterest board dedicated to "campy" movies in the 80's. With the 80's being one of my favorite decades for film, I thought it would be fun to browse through it. I found that some of my favorite, cheesy films like "Footloose," "Can't Buy Me Love," and "The Goonies" are actually campy films. I think this better helps understand the definition of campy.

I thought this article would be perfect for this class. The list includes classics that you've never heard of and more recent movies that you've probably seen a few times. Each title includes a brief description of the movie so you can get a feel for what you're about to watch before you stream it on Netflix.

When you stop focusing on just the new female voice in this Bon Iver cover, you should really listen to the lyrics. The term skinny love has been used as more of a term for two people that are in love but are too shy to admit it. However, this song and the lyrics can be interpreted in several different ways. It can be interpreted as someone who is desperate for love and is trying to find any means to be with someone, or it can be someone who is already in love and their relationship is beginning to fall apart. That's what I love about this song, it does not matter what kind of mood I'm in or what I'm feeling this is a good listen because it can always relate back to my life.
