instead of hate-watching the velma show on hbo max right now, might i suggest watching The Solve-It Squad Returns! (2017) for free on youtube!
the solve-it-squad is a one-act play exploring precisely what an âadult scooby dooââ˘ď¸ would look like! and unlike velma, itâs absolutely hilarious and crafted with love. i cannot recommend it enough!
#scooby doo#solve it squad#tin can brothers#starkid#it has come to my attention that other people have recommended the solve-it squad lately#but sis is very very good and i think the more recommendations it gets the better

Heyy, can I request a will poulter imagine since you do fanfics for đ§đžââď¸. Ig a long distance scenerio that as lot of angst but end in either fluff, smut or angst Iâm down for anything. Iâm just thankful for a poc writer honestly đ
Imagine you are in a relationship with Will but both of your work schedules are pushing you further apart. The distance begins to cause a strain on your relationship, leading to a fight that might end your relationship..or is it?
warning: 18+ only, language, smut, oral(f receiving), unprotected smut(wrap it before you tap it), you said you were down for anything lol, established relationship, slight angst, no beta reading cause I'm a thug, y/n is a black reader but woc/poc are welcomedđ¤
You and Will rarely fight.
Sure, you two have had disagreements but those never escalated further. There's no yelling or backhanded comments, if anything, you both learned very easily on in the relationship that you both hated going to bed angry and always made it a point to talk out your problems together and come to a peaceful resolution.
So why haven't you heard from him in over a week?
The last conversation ended in a heated fight over FaceTime. It was going on close to a year since you last saw each other in person - not like it wasnât anything that you two werenât used to but this time around, your schedules made it damn near impossible to even call, especially being in different time zone.
You didn't want to admit it but it was hard - and as you lay in your hotel room, you couldn't stop the ache that's been slowly building in your chest. You hated fighting with Will and especially hated it had you questioning you own relationship but it felt like you were the only one trying!
Will joining Marvel and becoming apart of the MCU was a big deal and you couldnât of been any more prouder of him than you already were. He was working hard, you knew that, but you still couldnât help but feel a little neglected and when there was finally a free week in your schedule, you made sure to tell him.
It was only a week and you missed your boyfriend like crazy, so you were going to make it work. That was until he broke the news to you, reshoots. You were hurt, crushed really, and from the other side of the screen, you could tell he was too. It wasnât Willâs fault, you knew that but couldnât hide the sadness anymore. You let it out, and in turn, he rightfully defended himself. Looking back on it now, it was a stupid fight but in that moment, you angrily ended the call and turned off your notifications for the night.
'A few days to cool off is needed' you thought to yourself on set but before you knew it, one day turned into three and soon enough you were in your hotel room getting ready. You had glanced down at your phone, thinking about shouting a text first but your pride wouldn't let you and with a new reason to be upset all over again, you left the room and got your Uber.
It was the wrap-up party for a mini-series you were working on with HBO or should you call it Max? You didnât know and frankly tonight, you didnât really care, the only thing on your mind was Will. You scan the room as cast and crew mingled about. You should be celebrating with them, enjoying completing a project you spent years writing and having a great team to back it up but right now, you just wanted to be alone.
Stepping out to the private balcony, you breathed in the summer night before taking in the view. The restaurant that production rented out allowed you a decent view of the skyline and enough height to see people walking below or coming to dine in and as you people watch for a split second, a familiar figure just down the street looking slightly lost.
"Will?" you squinted, getting a better look and seeing that it was in fact, Will, and you quickly called out to him before finally getting his attention.
"Surprise!" He shouted and you tried to stop the smile from growing on your face but you couldn't help it.
"What are doing here?"
"Surprising you!"
You didn't have much to say after that, all the anger and pent-up frustration all but faded and you wanted nothing more than to ditch this party and spend it with him.
So you did.
On the way back to your hotel, Will let it slip that you had to bride your assistant to give him the location and when you asked why he didn't just call you, Will sheepishly pulled out his cracked open, scratching the back of his head. "Kinda messed around and broke my phone on set the other. I had my manager book my flight and everything."
You could of swoon.
It was quiet as you enter your hotel room, Will shut the door behind him as he watches you carefully. He doesn't know why, but he felt nervous, maybe it was because this was the first time you'd been in the same room in close to a year.
"So, um I-"
"Listen, baby, I'm-"
You both rush to speak, smiling slightly as some of the tension leaves the room. Will stepping closer until he was sitting next to you and naturally, you lean into him, resting your head against his shoulder.
"I'm sorry." You whisper softly, not wanting to break this bubble.
A sigh leaves his lips, "I should be the one apologizing, Y/n.
"Can we just agree that this fight was super dumb and forget it happen?" you glance up at him smiling softly at you as he pulls you closer.
"Forget about what?"
You chuckle, shaking your head slightly. "And thank you for coming all the way here too, it really means a lot."
Will places a gentle kiss against your forehead before pulling back slightly as he takes in your beautiful features. "I really was trying to surprise you."
A smile graces your lips, "and you did surprise me, really."
"Maybe I should get a reward for my brilliant plan."
"And what kind of reward were you looking for?"
"Hmm, a kiss should suffice."
You were giggling now, "I think I should be the one asking for a kiss."
Will quirks a brow, an amused smirk playing on his face as he shifts in his seat before easily pulling you onto his lap. "Really now?"
You innocently nodded your head before letting out a playful sigh, "Yeah, I was left all alone, broken-hearted and sad-" a surprised yelp leaves your lips as your easily picked up and tossed over Will's shoulder without even a second thought, yelping again when you feel his hand give your ass a quick slap before he places you on the bed, lips meeting in a kiss that quickly turned heated.
The dress and heels you wore were taken off with ease but you couldn't say the same for your panties which were practically torn from your body and Will's lips kissing down your body until he reaches your wet center.
The sounds that tumbled out of your pretty mouth had him groaning into your core, earning another whine and buck of your hips to meet his hungry mouth.
"Yes, p-please ahh, more!" you begged as your fingers tangled into his hair and tugged on his roots. You were already sensitive from being pent up for so long that you felt everything he was doing to your pussy; his flattened tongue rubbing over your throbbing bud before wrapping and sucking on your clit as his finger pumped into your sobbing core. You were breathless and started feeling way more exposed than you even realized getting lost in the feeling of his mouth and feeling the heat rushing from your ears down to the tip of your toes that it takes you a few seconds to realize that Will stopped his movements.
You quickly tug at the end of his shirt, "You got too many clothes on." Will chuckles, sitting up between your parted thighs and easily discarding his shirt as you take him all in.
"Better?" He asked but you quickly shook your head and he caught on quickly, getting out of his jeans and briefs, and you were finally blessed with seeing his harden length after so long you could cry. You were just reaching for it when his much larger hand stop yours, "Later, darling, I really need to be inside you right now."
You could see the neediness in his eyes, stroking his cock at just the thought of finally being inside you were breaking his cool, and honestly, you didn't want to wait anymore either. Your arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer as your legs spread for him. The tip of his cock brushes against your dripping folds and you can't help but moan, raising your hips to catch more friction. That's when he eases into you, both gasping at the stretch that had your walls already squeezing him in more.
"So tight," Will groans, his face buried in your neck that his breath tickles your skin, raising goosebumps. He eases into you some more and your mouth falls open and your eyes roll back as your nails dig into his back but he doesn't seem the least bit fazed from the marks you were giving him while you try to keep your wits end.
Will soon pulls back, his large hands traveling down your quivering body until he's pushing your thighs back unable your knees are touching your chest in a gasp but he doesn't stop his thrust. His eyes flickering lower to watch his cock sink deeper into your wet pussy, the slick sounds coming from your tight was starting to drive him mad.
"Fuck, I might just cum right now," he whines, his cock hitting your spot just right you were starting to see stars. "you're so good to me, baby. so pretty taking my cock, yes!"
He usually wasn't this vocal but you weren't complaining, responding back in whimper and moans since you feel your brain turning to mush when he slows his pace but thrust deeper.
Will drinks in your appearance. You look so beautiful with your face contorted with pleasure, your eyes half closed and your glossed lips parted with sweet-sounding moans, and the louder you got, the more tempting the thought of fucking you all night was in the stars. He closed the gap between the two of you and kissed you. It was hungry and messy with all tongue and teeth. The hand that wasn't on your tit moved to your clit, rubbing quick circles on your swollen nub.
You clamped around him even tighter feeling his hand and with the way you were moaning into his mouth, he knew you were going to cum and he wasn't far behind either. Your fingers tangled in his hair once you broke the heated kiss, forehead touching
"That's it, baby, cum for me. Cum all over my cock." He strokes deeper, leaving you panting more as you dig your nails into his shoulders, and from the low hiss leaving his lips, you're sure you broke skin this time but you didn't care, not when your eyes fluttered shut, body shooked underneath him as your orgasm ripped through you in waves after waves. "C-Cumming! I'm cumming!" His pace was unrelenting, giving your more deep thrust until he buried his cock deep inside you, flooding your tight walls with his cum.
It was quiet aside from you two catching your breath. He gently drops your legs as he steadies himself on one arm, he uses his other hand to caress your cheek, your eyes meet his gaze a soft smile grew on both your faces.
"I love you."
"I love you too, more than you'll ever know."
You and Will rarely fight but when you do, you two are always making up in the end.

okay. i'm at a loss for words right now.
first of all, as I'm sure a lot of you are feeling right now, I'm heartbroken, literally sobbing alone in my bedroom. I can't express to you how much this show meant/means to me. How much it helped me at times when I felt I couldn't go on. The characters, the writing, the actors, writers, everyone involved in this show were amazing and so dedicated.
second of all, fuck hbo. fuck max. fuck corporate greed. fuck all of these queer-hating bigots that cancel any show that has some amount of queer joy even if they are successful and have a following.
third of all, the ending of the second season already felt like a bit of a goodbye, but i was so so hopeful bc i knew how much of a following it had and how much it meant to the queer community.
finally, hopefully our flag means death can be saved, picked up by another streaming service, continue in another medium, wtv. i want to continue to have hopes that it might still have a chance. Even if it doesn't, i wanna thank everyone involved in the making of this show for the dedication, care, and love they put into it. Mostly: thank you David Jenkins.
I'm still speechless and hurt, but i love this show with all my heart. I literally have a tattoo for it, for god's sake. Whatever happens don't forget the positive impact it had on the fandom and the queer community.

Bengiyo's Queer Cinema Syllabus
For those of you who donât know, I decided to run the gauntlet of @bengiyoâs queer cinema syllabus, which is comprised of 9 units. I have completed four of the units (here is my queer cinema syllabus round up post with all the films Iâve watched and written about so far). It is time for me to make my way through Unit 5- Lesbians, which includes the following films: The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995), Bound (1996), Water Lilies (2007) [Skipping for now until I can get access to it], Saving Face (2004), D.E.B.S. (2004), The Watermelon Woman (1996), Set It Off (1996), The Handmaiden (2016), Carol (2015), Imagine Me and You (2005), Two of Us (2019), Rafiki (2018), and The Color Purple (1985).
Today I will be talking about
The Watermelon Woman (1996) dir. Cheryl Dunye
[Run Time: 1:25, Available on: HBO Max, Hulu, Google, etc; Language: English]
Summary: A young black lesbian filmmaker probes into the life of The Watermelon Woman, a 1930s black actress who played 'mammy' archetypes.
Cast:
Cheryl Dunye as Herself
Valarie Walker as Tamara
Guinevere Turner as Diana
__
This film was a really interesting watch for me because I did no research about this film beforehand and went in to it really thinking it was a documentary, but as the film progressed I started questioning which pieces of the film were real and which pieces were not, and to learn at the end that the entire biography of Fae Richards aka âThe Watermelon Womanâ was fake was a really great moment of realization that I both started to question what was real but also that I have approximately zero background knowledge of Black Hollywood and therefore went in to this without any knowledge necessary to know that this biography was fiction. Which, I think, is part of the point of the film, right? How little of history has been regarded as important and recorded, knowing that there are people like you out there that did the things you want to do, that made an impact on the world, but not having the tangible evidence.Â
I have a love-hate relationship with the knowledge that Cheryl had to invent a piece of history to resonate with her, but love at the same time that her feature film debut, (which made her the first out Black lesbian director of a feature film) was dedicated to building up that history, and recording her own history as a Black lesbian in the film industry, so she cannot or will not be erased or forgotten.Â
That all said, I want to write about a couple of things that I really enjoyed from this film and think are important, even though I know they are scripted.Â
First things first, I loved that she went about obtaining information about The Watermelon Woman directly from her own community. That we get clips of her asking people on the street, that she seeks her motherâs knowledge, Tamaraâs uncleâs knowledge, the knowledge of her motherâs friend who is herself a Black lesbian and only then starts turning to additional sources: to the library, to the experts. Not only that but I loved that in the interview with Marthaâs sister, that Cheryl holds the knowledge of her own community as the truth and is not swayed by Mrs. Page-Fletcherâs adamant statements denying her sisterâs queerness.
Secondly, some notable visual touches:
I do not know why but my eye was super drawn to this one guy behind Cheryl and Tamara in the library who was wearing red lipstick, mostly because it brought a lot of minstrel show imagery to mind. Itâs totally possible that is not what she was going for, but because so much of the âdocumentaryâ was based around mammy archetypes in film, which is itself a caricature, that is the first place I went to.
Mrs. Page-Fletcher, who is established as racist, homophobic, and the sibling of someone who created films with mammy characters, having a Black maid come in and check on her as Cheryl and Diana are getting ready to leave the interview.
The AIDS poster in Cherylâs apartment
The banana skirt in the Ken Burns style Fae photos in the last scene.
Third, something I do not think I have the time to unpack my feelings about but sure as hit me with the layers of commentary:Â
The interview with Dr. Camille Paglia, who is playing herself, talking about how much she loves mammy archetypes and that fat bodies are sexy, and how women in the kitchen is not a sexist thing, and that watermelon is an important symbol and how she ties all of that to her own Italian heritage and experience as an Italian.Â
That interview with the Dr. Paglia is especially interesting to me in conjunction with the conversation occurring between multiple characters and Cheryl around the inclusion of white people in the âdocumentaryâ and inclusion of white people in her life. Tamara, for example, gets increasingly emotionally distant from Cheryl the more she hangs around/longer she dates Diana and the more she is nice to Annie. Fae Richardsâ lover Jane leaves a message criticizing Cheryl for her inclusion of Martha Page (a white woman) in the documentary about a Black lesbian at all. Cheryl appears to disagree with that because Martha Page was queer and in a relationship with Fae and therefore is relevant to the story. The C.L.I.T volunteer talks about donations of information from the Hysteria Project which wanted to focus solely on Black people in history so they have crossed out the white people.
There are pieces of this that are clear but not explicitly stated, especially around why Tamara is getting increasingly frustrated with Cheryl. And we end on the biography of Fae and statements about needing to create history, thereby ending entirely by focusing on the story of two Black lesbians (Fae Richardsâ fictional life, and Cheryl Dunyeâs actual one), which I think is the appropriate choice.Â
Favorite Scene (and Favorite Quote):Â
I think my favorite scene is the final scene, because it really feels like the thesis statement of the entire film. In it, Cheryl Dunye sits talking to the camera as if she were talking to Jane (Faeâs lover) before diving fully in to this fictionalized life of this invented Black lesbian. Cheryl says the following:Â
âI mean I know she meant the world to you but she also meant the world to me and I know those worlds are different. But the moments she shared with you the life she had with Martha on and off the screen, those are precious moments and nobody can change that. But what she means to me, a 25-year old Black woman means something else. It means hope, inspiration, possibility. It means history. And most importantly what I understand is that I am going to be the one who says I am a Black, lesbian filmmaker whoâs just beginning, but Iâm gonna say a lot more and have a lot more work to do.â
And she has, she has done a ton more work since her debut here in 1996.
ScoreÂ
9/10
This is a very smart film with a lot of things to say, there was a lot of bad acting (which to be fair I did kinda love), and they made me listen to far too much karaoke in that one scene.Â
Also, Cheryl Dunye? Hot
Next up, Set it Off (1996)

Just to add onto my last post but not enough people are acknowledging how fucked up izzy apologizing to Ed is. And before I get into it I want you to know that I love the show and there are parts of s2 that were just amazing I mean I stayed up till midnight for every single one, I don't hate watch things. But we're here for discussing I'm here to talk it through with the crew ok? Anyway,
You're telling me that Ed cut off multiple of izzys toes till his leg started to rot, proceeded to shoot his leg off and then barely acknowledge or try to apologize after? I mean yeah Izzy shut him down usually when he was trying to talk but it doesn't take long to say I'm sorry it doesn't take long to write a letter even, it doesn't take much to apologize to the dying man. But instead izzy lays there and apologizes to Ed! For what? For fueling blackbeard I guess. Which I understand because in the first season if they had this discussion it would've made 100% sense but really in season 2 it doesn't. Ed is the one pushing himself, abusing the crew and killing and killing and killing. Izzy is breaking down about it, he's trying to get Ed to talk to the crew, which, again, gets him shot! I'm in a haze right now so maybe I don't know his last words word for word but all I know is that they were all about Ed and how izzy somehow could think he wronged Ed after Ed wronged him time and time again. They were toxic to eachother on both sides but at the end of the day they wouldn't have been around eachother by the finale had Izzy lived. Izzy would be on the boat with the crew, hell he might've even been the captain. And Ed would've been with stede at the inn. And so again it really is just death for what feels like the sake of death. Just because they needed some kind of justification for a cute ending and instead of making one they threw izzy away. I understand it's HBO or Max's or whatevers fault, that's why I'm not blaming the writers. I cant imagine how much they must've limited this season, so again, fuck you HBO!

also velma is getting a fucking season 2 while coyote vs acme is probs going to shelved and written off for tax write offs despite being finished.
fuck man this sucks. i still feel so bad for the staff, the director, the writers, the vas, the people singing that meep meep choir, and wile e coyote fans. i remember marvin had a whole wholesome christmas movie which ended up being cancelled as well and got sad about that (also marvin not having much screentime in space jam 2, being a marvin the martian stan is suffering sometimes).
also please don't hate watch velma season 2, if you want to hate watch just look up reviews or clips on youtube...that'll just give warner bros, hbo max, and m*ndy k*ling more motives to make season 3 a thing. I'm not even a huge fan of Scooby Doo but i also still feel so fucking bad for scooby fans too right now...

i feel like weâre finally at the age of information transparency on the internet that studio head execs are showing their own asses in an unprecendented way. like we all knew they were bigoted old farts who hate minorities and animation as a medium BUT now we have the entire hbo max tobacle, and thatâs only the most obvious.
recently two tv shows for wings of fire and phoebe and her unicorn were cancelledâ the first because of netflix budget cuts and the second because ânobody wants to watch a female-led show.â as for the latter, thatâs so obviously not true that itâs laughable, what with basically every disney animated show being female-led and extremely popular incl. owl house and amphibia, legend of korra being revered rightfully for its badass queer woc main, the female-led infinity train seasons being just as popular as the male-led, my little pony getting a terrifying number of fans... i donât even have to explain this to yâall i donât know why i am, itâs just obvious that isnât the case. the reason i lumped it in with wings of fire though is it shows that these execs literally have their heads so far up their own asses they donât realize that theyâre literally throwing away money. both wings of fire and phoebe are EXTREMELY popular with their target demographicâ i work at a library and go to bookstores like, once a week, and wings of fire is THE kidsâ series right nowâ every library and bookstore has a dedicated shelf just for it, every kid in the us and canada reads these gay lil dragon books. i donât know much about phoebe but i do know that i have to shelf her graphic novels every goddamn day so theyâre getting checked out constantly. making these shows would give these studios an immediate HUGE audience but they donât want it because.......... ???? honestly the only thing i can think of is bias against animation, but also i do know that while WoF is very cishet in the first few books, later books add quite a few queer dragons and that could def be a reason.Â
netflix also recently told craig mccracken, creator of some of the most beloved kids shows of the 2000s, that âoriginal content doesnât sell anymoreâ and they need to do reboots and remakes instead. which is funny coming from the company that made stranger things which, while nostalgia-bait for the 80s, is an original fucking story. also the owl house and amphibia are disneyâs top shows rn. the most popular kids movie right now is encanto, a completely original story. and thatâs just in KIDS MEDIA, do i need to bring up the popularity around everything everywhere all at once, squid game, the knives out franchise, etc? weâre in an age of remakes and reboots yeah but original stories can still make money and gain fans if you make a good fucking product. but netflix doesnât care about that, as evidenced by how fast they cancelled first kill and also every other show that was good.
and idk what it is but something about the state of the internet right now means that weâre all seeing this in a way we hadnât before. weâre all seeing how fucking dumb these execs areâ well, dumb or actively malicious. or even trying to commit corporate suicide for some reason. itâs just interesting to me that all this is happening now when in the past we were just kinda like. stuck with whatever we got

Shows that were canned too early that deserved better (imo)
We all hate it when we get wayy too invested into a show with good characters, an interesting plot, and a solid setup right? Well it seems that the networks for these shows didnât really see it that way sadly, some of these shows are known, others arenât, but this is just gonna be me rambling about how we didnât get more of these said shows đ
The Owl House
Now this one I wont dig deep into too long? We did get a solid ending in the end, but we were definitely robbed of a full season 3
The fact that this was Disneys next big thing, (like Gravity Falls) and still got axed kinda baffles me a bit because executives love big ratings
I heard they cancelled it because of it ânot fitting the disney brandâ (mostly because there were two main gay characters in it) which I thought was super unfair, because they really were that homophobic đ
All in all, I enjoyed this show and wanted a full season 3
Close Enough
From Regular Show creator J.G Quintel, this show was definitely more for an older audience, and let me say they did amazing at it.
The shows humor didnât revolve around cussing or sex jokes, (which is what I see all the time now in modern adult animation) and the show was definitely funny!
Unfortunately though, Max cancelled it after 3 seasons due to the merge of Discovery + and HBO Max, with Max canning alot of shows during that time, this being one of them
We kinda sorta got left on a cliffhanger of sorts?? At least imo. Liked the show and wish we had more
Wander Over Yonder
For a show made by Craig McCracken (Powerpuff Girls, Fosters Home) youâd think it would be popular and have a bunch of seasons right?
Well no, with this show only having two seasons after Disney cancelled it because â80 episodes were enough for this showâ which is kinda dumb?? I dunno I just donât like executives and rules and stuff
I remember this show from my childhood, it was really good in my opinion, I feel like we couldâve had more if Disney didnât cancel it as early as it did
Love you WOY đŤĄ
Inside Job
The fact that this show left on a cliffhanger too made me even more upset that Netflix cancelled it as early as they did
Not only was this another adult animated show that didnât rely on cussing or sex jokes, the story was actually really interesting too and if the show did continue, we wouldâve had a happy ending
Screw Netflix actually I will never forgive them for this one
Grojband
I CANNOT stress enough about how this show deserved so much more than what it got, I actually wouldâve put it at number one, but the next one is kinda justifiable so ._.
From Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton (Total Drama Island) this show featured a kid and his friends that were in a band, and used lead singers sisters diary as lyric ideas, bc they suck at writing them
And I loved it
I swear I donât think Iâve ever been heavily interested in and emotionally attached to the characters in a show before, it was so good
The songs in this show were also heavenly, I suggest you give them a listen, theyre really good!
Also another reason I really liked the show was because it was a Canadian toon that didnât revolve around gross out humor (I applaud them for that)
Unfortunately this was a show Cartoon Network screwed over BIG time, with when it came out during the summer it was airing, kids were mostly outside playing, never really gaining an audience, and then after the first half of the season aired, it was on a 2 YEAR hiatus. With fans questioning if the show would ever come back
Fortunately it did! Except Cartoon Network shoved it on their app, and a year later shoved it onto their sister channel, Boomerang. Then, after the show FINALLY ended their first season, the show was immediately cancelled, with Cartoon Network never really giving it a chance
The whole way Cartoon Network handled this show frustrated me immensely, with it having a decent fanbase, and people wanted more (me being one of them:()
The creators even had alot of plans for next said season, but I guess we will never get to see them (unless a Clone High situation happens but thatâs doubtful)
Show was very underrated and deserved SO much more, Cartoon Network fumbled this one and the last show Im about to mention
Sym Bionic Titan
This sci fi animated series by Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Dexters Lab) only lasted one season with 20 episodes
With Cartoon Network cancelling it because of the failure to produce a TOY LINE
The fact this show got axed because of toys just makes me so upset
This was one of those shows that also left on a cliffhanger sadly, so we never really got to see how this show properly ended
With Genndy even saying that he wrote 10 more episodes, but now we will never get to see them
ALSO THE SHOWS SOUNDTRACK WAS SO GOOD?! Love when shows put banger songs in the bg, reminded me so much of Clone High
Anyways thats pretty much it? These are just my opinion tho, everyone is entirely different
#the owl house#inside job#close enough#wander over yonder#grojband#sym bionic titan#these shows deserved better

a few thoughts on ofmd
I had an absolutely shitty day yesterday and wasn't on socials, so when I came online and saw that one of my main sources of queer joy had been cancelled my 2024 just got that much shittier. Seeing all the tributes and new fan art on here is making me angrier at HBO Max.
Granted, the film & tv industry has always been a sausage factory, but with streamers you now have people who hate sausages & know nothing of how they're made churning out endless tons of substandard shit-laden product with no care for the result as long as it makes them rich. Instead of building a brand on a range of quality projects that can be profitable, critically acclaimed and popular, they'd rather wring every penny out of a handful of derivative IP because at heart they don't care about the creators who make their product or the audience. When this ends up affecting diverse queer media, it hurts even more because these kinds of shows literally have life-changing impacts for underrepresented creators and viewers. With our rights increasingly under attack that rep is needed more than ever.
Fandom will be fine - our joy and creativity and sharing lives on long after the source media has ended its run. But to cut a show like Our Flag Means Death prematurely in times like these is a deliberate choice and one we're seeing more and more. It's chilling and concerning.

@octahyde replied to your post âppl only remind yall thar politicians bad so...â:
Regardless of anything else ofc but if you ever thought Biden was a good candidate and people needed to âforgiveâ him you should be glad someone similar but with a shot of actually winning is the nominee now
âyeah thats what im sayin it's so insane. Honestly I simply just don't think he would have won im sawry but like his Only selling point was being a democrat at all.
from the perspective of just some average schmuck who watches hbo max after work in the background like hes eating saltine crackers and doesn't really Think deeply about politics other than what sounds good, Kamala is simply the more exciting and motivating option. she's young (comparatively, she Looks much younger and is much more energetic) she's better at speaking, she's a fresh face (comparatively. one of the reasons Trump appealed to people when he first ran was because he hashtag not like other politicians, while the Clinton family has a legacy behind them) what leftists hate about her isn't things that the average schmuck is going to be bothered by or even really understand and the things that conservatives hate are very very easy to understand for mr joe schmoe and they are not things they can attack while still looking morally right. she not only is a better option in this regard but compared to Clinton who mind you won the popular vote, she doesn't have the terribad PR behind her either
Like if you got a parasocial crush on Joe Fucking Biden just say that omgg đ

Hmm... you know what you said about people not actually reading books they claim they've read? I feel like this can basically apply to most media. We're living in the tik tok generation attention spans and media literacy have never been lower. I know people who watch everything speed up or they fast forward through movies and shows or they watch those movie plot summary videos on youtube and facebook and count that as watching the actual movie! (big yikes) I saw my sister the other day watching Friends via tik tok clips despite the fact we have the whole show on dvd. This is how people consume media nowadays and it's worrying!!
It's true lol. And I won't pretend to be super invested in everything I watch, but if it genuinely doesn't interest me I'll just kinda stop and move on (when it comes to shows--with movies I usually soldier on unless it's REEEEALLY bad).
Me and my lovely lady friends have had a movie watching group for... like four years now (since right before the pando lmao but the pando made it a lot bigger) and I think that our commitment to watching trash, amazing, and mid things (we've given up on VERY few movies) has made me believe even more that you need to watch or otherwise something before really getting into the discourse. Like. I just said I watched The Bear season 1 (or near to it) and decided it wasn't for me. But I absorbed like, none of that show lmao. It REALLY wasn't for me. So while I can say "I didn't like The Bear", I don't feel like I consumed it, so I can only say on the surface level what didn't work for me, and maybe what I dislike about it on a cultural level (see: the way romance arcs are handled and discussed in the media).
But if I REALLY wanna get into critiquing? I'll watch it. Maestro was such a bad movie. So hard to watch. It wasn't even so bad it's funny, it was just bad. But now I can tell you that with an informed eye, because I WATCHED IT. And there have been movies that have surprised me, too! We just rewatched one of my all time favorite movies that only us and Adam Driver's wife have seen, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. That movie is so weird! We only watched it because Adam looked good in it! And it's AMAZING to me. I LOVE that movie. I also love so many random little movies people trash. I hate movies like Wonka yet I get through them so that I can properly drag them with an informed heart.
I feel like a lot of people have really lost the ability to invest time and thought. I mean, I know this because Zaslav has asked creators to make things that don't require attention from viewers. For HBO Max, dude. When HBO has been the home of shows that offer so much more nuance than the initial dialogue, based on line readings, expressions. Succession's dialogue, for example, is practically incoherent at points on paper. I mean, Roman Roy sounds so sadistic on paper lol. But when you see Kieran Culkin deliver his dialogue, there is a totally different read, and you see what Jesse Armstrong was actually trying to convey.
I also think this is one reason (other reasons are cultural lol) that people give such surface level readings even when they do consume the content. Like, if you've trained your brain to only read into the most straightforward, "the dialogue and actions are the single truth, there is no other truth, there is no other meaning than EXACTLY what is being done and said in a literal manner"... You are almost never understanding what truly great work really means.
I mean, I just discussed this re: Dreaming of You. Derek Craven stealing Sara's glasses is not meant to convey "Derek Craven is a tool". That is a completely surface level reading. Kleypas is conveying "Derek Craven is obsessed with her" and honestly? Some character work about his background (he steals impulsively because it's super easy to him because even though he's rich now he had to grow up stealing shit because he was LESS THAN dirt poor) and the way he sees the world (he wants her, he doesn't think he can have her, he covets her, and what he does when he covets is take, through theft if need be). And I don't know, probably some subtextual shit about stealing Sara because she's engaged and shit, but that's more interpretive lol.
And I don't expect people to get as granular and obsessive as I do, because a) I am super analytical by nature b) I am A Nerd c) I write a lot so layered meaning is something I'm obsessed with. But like... in the above example, the MOST BASIC reading of "he wants her so he took her glasses because he doesn't think he'll see her again" is so obvious lol. Lisa leads you to that reading. I think he literally has internal dialogue like "he'd never see her again so whatever" while holding the glasses.
The same with the Succession example. If Roman shakes off his dad's weird abusive comments going "it's whatever" you shouldn't go "Roman is devoid of emotion" lol, you should be able to pick up Roman actually deeply caring based on the line reading and expression and a million other line readings before that.
I don't know, dude. Just take the time to consume shit. Not everyone does have a lot of time, I get it. So consume fewer things. Take more time. It's okay. You don't have to be on top of the cultural moment all the time, and if you're faking it to be in it, you're not getting the full experience anyway.

Younger fans might not remember past purges of "porn" in media and fandom sites but yeah it got bad. And it's likely to get bad again. Under these bans anything they don't approve of gets banned as porn. Unmarried s*x? Porn. An LGBT+ couple kissing or holding hands? Porn. It's not just porn that will get banned. And YES they will consider a show like IWTV porn and unsuitable for young audiences. And just about anything on Max/HBO.
My guess? My hope? That adult programming will be relatively the same with maybe some regulation on when and how they can be shown . But family friendly content like Disney+? Yeah. Don't expect to see another show like Agatha or Acolyte for a very very VERY long time.
But we're already seeing a shift in media perspective of content creators etc moving to the right for viewers. Might AMC decide a highly LGBT+ show isn't worth the risk? Oh yeah. That's a real possibility.
But either way fandom is going to look very different under a Republican administration if they get all the regulations they want. And honestly? There's not really anything stopping that from happening right now.
And any site with an app (X/Twitter, Bluesky, Tumblr, Tiktok, etc.) has to follow whatever guidelines are put in place to stay on their host shops (android, apple, etc.) Plus you have that this administration really hates all social media except X. Ao3 will be safe at least for a while bc it's not on an app. But social media is going to be affected BIG time. Although if I'm being honest Democrats have also been known to push for these regulations too so it was coming in some form for some time.
This administration/voters are also extremely pro AI. Very extremely pro AI. So expect AI protection laws to go very pro AI under this administration.
Do I think IWTV will be cancelled right off? No. I think we'll get at least S3, S4 if we're lucky but the climate is changing and it will definitely affect fandom and the media we love. There is very likely going to be a shift away from left leaning media and programming in the coming few years.
Sorry for the long rant but I'm trying not to panic and writing this kinda helped.
:/ *hugs*
I get the panic. Which is why Iâm also going to download all my favorite fics off Ao3 before January. For example.

PJO SHOW SPOILERS FOR NEW BOOK READERS!!!
guys iâm kinda pissed that the writers continuously decide to leave out (arguably)major details in pjo like the new episode (6) was good but 1) they shouldnât have known the lotus casino was supposed to try and keep them there right away and built suspense like in the books 2) they completely left out the âbecause youâre my friend seaweed brainâ which was a major point in there friendship. Honestly iâm not too upset because the tunnel of love was probably better for that, but i still wouldâve loved to see it⌠and 3) they didnât mention percy being able to talk to horses (the zebra!!! the literal title of the episode but there were no zebras in sight!) Keep in mind this is only just for the newest episode i also donât like how Gabe wasnât really abusive; this plot line was important to show he deserve to be unalived and develop sallyâs character. this is not to say he needed to be MORE abusive; just that we only really see him being annoying/mistreating percy and sally like some man child. i think they couldâve hinted it better tho.
The show is good and Iâm very much enjoying it but i feel i canât ignore this much longerđđ The writers need to do better and we should have longer episodes. They should probably stop filming it on disney plus and go to hbo max or something, because 8 30-minute long episodes are clearly not enough to develop plot pointsâŚ. it feels very rushed and if they wanted to do 20 minute episodes they shouldâve done way more than 8. ALSO most of the fandom has forgotten weâre supposed to be boycotting disney đ¤¨đ¤¨đ¤¨FREE PALESTINE!!!! Unsubscribe to disney plus and đ´ââ ď¸ đ´ââ ď¸đ´ââ ď¸đ´ââ ď¸đ´ââ ď¸đ´ââ ď¸đ´ââ ď¸(p!rate)
Im so sorry this is a long rant but another point i have is rick criticizing the movies because of the lady gaga scene. I am actually glad he didnât put that into the show(although i loved it) but now itâs like whatâs the point of not doing that because the episode had no⌠flavor to it??? I hate criticizing it but i just needed to share my opinionsđđđ
Anyways the trio is carrying the show and i love walker, aryan, and leah sm đŤśđ˝đŤśđ˝đŤśđ˝
