i don't know how to put thoughts and concepts into words written out, verbally goes easier but typed out you're gna have to bear with me: ellie has a very demanding presence and is very loud and unapologetic about it, that's the way she's always been. her loving reader so loudly and unapologetically even before she was sure what they had was real and that her feelings were reciprocated doesn't stem from her rebeliousness but from the fact that she wants to give her what she wishes she got. right? or am i just like yapping here? like now for the first time ever she found someone who does it back, and who treats her that way in return for the first time ever. however she was still scared bc she wasn't sure if it was for the cameras or not. idk if that's wrong tho. i do want to know why she has such a rebelious nature or if that's wrong and i just like misinterpreted that and assumed it bc of the stereotype and if she isn't like that at all

so yeah, of course she was terrified. of course she couldn’t trust it at first. because for her, vulnerability has always come with consequences. that’s why she was always trying to stay one step ahead.

that’s why even when she was fake-dating the reader, she was still loving her real.

because for the first time, she was giving someone everything she ever wanted to receive—and it was the scariest and bravest thing she’s ever done.

Grace and Wolfgang: I don't think there's much to say here. Both have taken a look around and decided they do just like the opposite gender (each other). Grace definitely did more exploration of this than Wolfgang when she was younger, but both are pretty set in their ways. If we factor multishipping into this though then Grace has smth goin on with Eloise that's not so nice for either of them, but I don't think it's enough to warrant a change in labels. Transfem Wolfgang is also possible but I don't feel strongly enough about it to think it warrants a change in labels here.

Ingrid: Less stubborn about her preferences, she just has other things to worry about and lacks the time to explore her options more thoroughly. I don't think she's particularly attracted to anyone because she views herself as more of a mother/authority figure than in a position to have romantic partners. I don't ship her with anyone either, so she stays straight.

Jett: A beautiful bear that deserves the world. I could see him previously flirting with some other drivers before/after races, but has put his love life as a much lower priority due to his accident. Keeps an upbeat mood, but is more scared of actually fooling around with other people like that bcs the topic of his appearance is inevitable. Dawnteago or Jettmon will win out in the end though 🙏 in my mind. Might like Mark but Mark does not like him back.

Jean: Literally has a line about being "YMCA at sea." He's a ship captain that has lots of alone time around strong men and surely has needs. Man-liker through and through.

Ulysses: Okay here's how the lesbian part of this category factors in. He's a transfem lesbian in the making she just needs the time to think on it (which she doesn't get the time for).

Kai: Now he HAS explored a lot of his options just by nature of being on the internet. Says he's bi for clout when he's like 15 and then it comes true. Definitely still feels a little weird about liking men because of the lingering identity crisis.

Eloise: She was the hardest placement on this entire list. I don't think I have a strong enough grasp of her to feel confident about anything else though! Her being bi borders more on her not caring, but it feels like too much to put her in the uncaring category bcs she Does care. Idk idk. She's a situation.

Diana: Pansexual ^_^ She's very open to her possibilities and accepting of whoever, since her whole job is basically about prettying up anyone she meets.

Desmond: I think he also has an open mind but doesn't have his mind on who he's attracted to, really. He kind of gets along with most people, so he makes his judgements when people approach him, rather than considering if he should approach other people. If he enters a relationship though, he's gonna have to do some major restructuring of his routine, for obvious reasons.

Damon: The man of the hour, but also the most simple. I will be clear that I'm partially projecting and think that he's an aromantic bisexual because I am also that, BUT. I think he also just really struggles to feel romantic/sexual attraction in general. He doesn't like having to get close to other people, so he's very difficult to want and has a hard time wanting. Feeling romantic attraction takes a very long time for him under normal circumstances*, but when it hits, it hits hard. *Desmond is the exception. Damon likes him the moment he meets him and it spirals into a serious crush in a matter of days. Takes him so long to actually realize that he's feeling romantic love though.

Eva: Girl who has been neglected and unloved and self-isolates sooooooo god damn much. Doesn't feel any romantic attraction to other people and thinks of it as a waste of time. Pretty mean about the topic of romance until she's had friends for a while and feels more confident about herself. Gets into an aro4aro relationship with Cassidy, I know this in my heart.

Cassidy: Never has her mind on romance, and gets pretty awkward about it when she sees it or it's brought up in conversation. She does not know why for a while and plays it off. Maybe someone confesses to her and she's like "... Yeah, sure! Let's give it a try!" and then immediately feels bad bcs she doesn't feel aaaaanyyyyything for them besides like, being friends. Takes about a month to end that whole issue, and she loathes talking about it. Later on she latches onto Eva though, and they eventually agree on a low stakes friend-relationship thing, where they can just be friends but they're allowed to hold hands and casually kiss each other whenever they want. That's my Cass thoughts I hope u liked and enjoyed 👍

Mark: Okay. Can't say I have much to say for him. Might be gay, might be aro, kind of flip-flopping on it. Mark is my least favorite so as much as I do still like him, my thoughts on him are minimal.

Like they’re trying so hard to make sure their kid (and every other demigod they meet, I’m kind of obsessed with adult Waystation Valgrace specifically based on the concept that they help anyone who comes by and get them exactly what they need for whatever stupid quest they can’t get out of asking for absolutely nothing in return) grow up in a world that is kinder and better than the one that shaped them into who they were.

And obviously there are things they can’t fix, that are too big to be fixed in their lifetime, and I think that’s something they (especially Jason who grew up being told he was basically destined to do great things and lead and save everyone around him) need to come to terms with, before it kills them a second time. Or, like, a fourth time in Jason’s case since he has so many fakeout/temporary almost-deaths, but who’s counting?

If I ever get around to writing more stuff where Sofía is a little older, I’m gonna be playing around a lot with the whole improving Camp Jupiter thing. We’ll see how it goes.

So, the thing about someone else infodumping at me is that it brings me joy. I love hearing/seeing people ramble about stuff they’re passionate about, even if I have no context for it. -Please please please write or ramble about Socrates, I have had him for one paragraph and would love more input. I feel like Leo is the only cat person in his main friend group (Piper had a dog so she absolutely is a dog person, Jason just screams dog person, also counting Reyna here since they’re friends post-ToA and she should have gotten to be friends with Jason again and she’s obviously also a dog person since she has two of them). Anyway, Jason would probably cave immediately if Leo said he wanted a cat. Even more so if their kid also wanted a cat. I know this in my heart. Is Socrates from a shelter? Is he a stray one of them started feeding who just stuck around? Did Isabella just decide she wanted a pet one day and Socrates was the one she picked out?

Way back thinking about doing element based photosets, the easiest way would be color coded, yeah? There's just one problem with that.

Lightning magic has at least three distinct colors, and I have been bouncing around why on earth that will be for years. It ruined my plans for nice and neat color-coordination and I'm pissed /lighthearted. So, I'm going to dump my thoughts on it into a post and be rid of it. (I may eventually go back to my color coordination and edit ideas but that is not this post. This post is my built up brainrot and semi-vent post, lmao)

After best considering the way to categorize them, my conclusion is simple.

Blue lightning comes from those whose magic magic base came from Alma Tran.

Yellow comes from the magicians born in the reborn world and seems to be the standard for all of them. (I know it looks a little green but that's my color correction being a little funky).

Then there is Judar who has to be extra as fuck.

One exception that I think supports this idea is Yunan. While magi are more directly connected to Alma Tran, I think ultimately that is not where their magic and connection lies. (Yes, I will say the same about Aladdin).

Yunan uses blue, specifically against his fight with Arba and Al Thamen. She points out how it is odd it is. Yunan agrees and cites the reason he is using it is to mimic Sinbad.

It would be nice to have the Alma Tran arc animated, as the manga is in black and white and all I can do is guess. Different worlds is the only common factor I could come up with, outside of strength or purity of the magic, which leads me back to why that would be the case in the first place and I'm back where I started.

As mentioned, Judar is extra about it. One thought is since he is Fallen, though that wouldn't explain why Isnan's and presumably the rest of Al Thamen's magicians don't have theirs changed black/purple too instead of blue. My honest hunch is that because Judar named it black lightning makes it a style choice he did of his own volition. Yunan makes a choice with his. No reason Judar can't be the same.

I also read the Silm as an in-universe history text compiled by in-universe scholars, who, being people, are going to have their own biases and blind spots, even when they're doing their best to be accurate!)

So, this is a two-part thing: #1, there's the political cohesion of Doriath before & at the time of Thingol's death, which i talked about in the tags of the post that prompted this ask but is kind of necessary as context for the Dior part to make sense, and #2, there's the actual Dior headcanons. Both of these parts are very long because I've never really seen anyone else suggest any of this stuff and I want to explain where I'm coming from thoroughly enough that it actually makes sense to people who aren't me, but the TL;DRs:

TL;DR 1: I think Doriath was probably a hot mess politically after Thingol died, with tensions between various groups of Sindar and Laiquendi in the leadup to Thingol's death & Melian's departure, and more political tensions afterwards between those who wanted Beren & Lúthien to come be the new rulers, and those who thought they should stay gone, with someone still in Doriath taking over.

TL;DR 2: I think Dior became Eluchil, potentially at the request of some portion of the Iathrim, hoping to help prevent Doriath from devolving into civil war, and saw dealing with the Silmaril-Fëanorioni situation as a lower priority than stabilizing Doriath's internal political situation until it was too late.

1. The political cohesion (or rather, lack thereof) in Doriath prior to Thingol's death

So, okay, the thing about Doriath is that we don't actually have any real idea of like... how much the Iathrim liked being the Iathrim? We're never told about any intra-Iathrim conflict, but a) the Silm was probably compiled mostly by surviving Gondolindrim or their descendants, so they wouldn't know about anything liike that unless surviving Iathrim told them, and after the Second Kinslaying I don't imagine many Iathrim would've been eager to talk about how things had actually been tense/messy/etc when they could remember everything as having been perfect until it was ruined by the Fëanorionrim, and doubly so after the Third Kinslaying, so why would anything like that make it into the Silm?

and b) what we do know about Doriath is that it wasn't really Doriath as we know it until Morgoth came back to Middle-earth, and everything went to hell.

At the start of the first age, you suddenly get Doriath (the fenced land!) being the one protected area of a continent that used to be totally free and open. How many Sindar actually didn't particularly care for Thingol's style of leadership, or simply preferred to live nomadic lives, going basically wherever they pleased, until suddenly that wasn't safe anymore, and you were only guaranteed survival if you were close enough to Menegroth to be within the Girdle when it went up? ditto how many Laiquendi had no interest in swearing loyalty to Thingol right after their own king had just been killed, but again, made it to safety and stayed there over taking their chances on their own in the outside world? (None of this is meant as any insult to Thingol himself, by the way; he can have been a good king who did his best for his people and still rubbed some of his new subjects-by-necessity the wrong way, through no fault of his own or theirs.)

I think it's entirely possible that there were always potential political tensions under the surface in Doriath that just... never got written about, because they never boiled over into actual political conflict, and so it was never the sort of tension that had any bearing on the historical record.

Except then Beren & Lúthien happen to the world, and a few years later the Narn, and in the blink of an eye suddenly the only king Doriath has ever had is dead, and the only queen Doriath has ever had is gone and the Girdle with her—and more than that, the only rulers the Sindar had ever had for three thousand years before Doriath existed.

And where a few years earlier I think the Iathrim would probably have turned pretty universally to Lúthien, now she's abandoned them for her human husband—and while she's my favorite character in the entire legendarium hands-down and I don't blame her, I think that's another place there might have actually been some very mixed feelings among the Iathrim that nobody wanted to admit to later because how could anyone have been upset with Lúthien—and on top of her abandoning them for him, I think it's extremely probable most of Doriath did not actually get over their xenophobia about humans in general or Beren in specific when Thingol did (we know for sure at least some of Doriath didn't, cf. Saeros insulting Túrin's mother & sister to his face), but again, who's going to admit to having had a grudge against the holy couple of Middle-earth after the fact, you know?

Conversely, there could've been a sizeable faction of Sindar who had been totally loyal to Thingol until everything happened with Beren & Lúthien, but who found his actions towards them and/or Finrod to be where they drew the line, and while (unlike B&L themselves) that faction stayed in Doriath, there could've been a new, additional tension on that front.

Finally, for all we know there were multiple factions within the Laiquendi of Doriath, with political tensions stretching back to before their king died, rooted in who-even-knows!

2. Dior

All of that, of course, sets up a very, very messy political situation for Dior to walk into.

The Doriath stuff is arguably more speculation than actual headcanon, but here's where the unambiguous headcanons come in: I don't think "Dior Eluchil set himself to raise anew the glory of the kingdom of Doriath." Obviously that's how it got written down, but bluntly, I can't see Beren and Lúthien having a kid that stupid or, like, power-hungry and arrogant?

What I can see is a situation where the messenger that brought word of Thingol's death and Melian's departure asked Beren & Lúthien to come take over as the new king and queen, we promise we're not mad about you leaving and we won't be xenophobic to your husband anymore we swear it's fine now pretty please, Beren & Lúthien said no, and the messenger either asked Dior as a second choice, or said "okay fine none of that was actually true but Doriath is falling apart and we need a leader ASAP and there's about eight different contenders* (mostly kinsmen of Thingol or Laiquendi) being backed by various factions and it's going to devolve into civil war any minute so if you care at all—" and Dior said "would I do?"

(* Ask me about my Galadriel headcanon)

I don't think Dior necessarily wanted to be king of Doriath, and I don't think he saw the throne as his birthright or anything like that; I don't think anyone involved, from Thingol to Lúthien to Dior himself, ever considered the possibility of Thingol dying and needing an heir! I think it's possible he was asked, or at most that he offered, and either way, I think he saw becoming king as taking on a responsibility for the sake of others.

(Which, like, "well here's a potentially impossible task that I'm going to take up even though probably no one thinks I'm actually capable of it, but it's my duty to help others as best I can" sure does sound to me like an attitude one might develop when raised by Lúthien "I kicked Sauron's ass cast a sleep spell on Morgoth and persuaded the Valar to find a loophole in the fabric of reality" Tinuviel and Beren "I stayed by my father's side as an outlaw to give my mother time to lead the rest of our people away hopefully to safety knowing I would never see her or any of them again (and then spent several years being a giant thorn in Morgoth's side for good measure)" Barahirion, where "apparently my grandpa I may or may not have ever met died, guess that makes me the king of a place i may or may not have ever been" does... not.)

I also think he either took on the epithet Eluchil, or was given it by whichever factions of the Iathrim accepted him as king, when he actually became king. Obviously he's going to be referred to as Dior Eluchil even before that in retrospect because that's how he's thought of later, but that doesn't mean it was actually a name he always had, you know?

The final thing is, I think if Dior essentially walked into a political situation five seconds from devolving into civil war, it makes his inaction regarding the Silmaril prior to the Second Kinslaying make more sense: the Fëanorioni have been sitting around doing nothing about the Silmaril in Doriath / with Beren & Lúthien this whole time, the letter saying "hey that's our Silmaril give it back now" is probably just a formality, and Dior's only been ruling for a couple years, there's still plenty of people dubious about whether he should be king at all, he might well be subject to at least some of whatever xenophobia remains about humans in Doriath, and in general all the work he's done on stabilizing the kingdom will absolutely come undone again if he screws up; he's trying to keep a kingdom from falling apart, the Silmaril thing can wait.

Of course, it wasn't a formality, and it couldn't wait, but why would Dior have known that?
