Theory.

There is absolutely a bunch of rednecks in the Vita Carnis universe who just hunt the carnis creatures, Im talking like they are so batshit insane that they will go after a harvester with only a shotgun, M1911 and several cans of bud lite. But even though they are basically madmen they have bagged a fucking host of influence of all fucking things and have it displayed over their mantlepiece as a trophy.

And the funniest thing is that not only are they able to easily kill mimics they also have plans to bag a monolith and even a singularity, the only person who has bagged a singularity is a man from Florida with his AK-47 kit and three sticks of dynamite.

Ringless honey mushroom 》 Armillaria tabescens

A historic day! My first time harvesting mushrooms with the intent to consume!

I've gotten to know the fungi in this park well, and there are at least two armillaria that have been sprouting honey mushroom in two particular spots for a couple of autumns now. I felt familiar enough with them to partake and they were very gracious in allowing me to do so.

For my first time eating wild foraged mushrooms, I pan fried them with red onion and added them to some pierogi. Delicious!

My opinions on hunting and fishing, formed over years of caring for animals and researching animals and ecology:

A human is a large omnivore with a job to do. There are a lot of us, and we should be abiding by management strategies and recommendations, but the world would be greatly worse off if we didn't hunt and harvest. Especially with the decline of many predator species, it is actually our duty to hunt the land to keep prey populations down. Those predator species will struggle to repopulate in an unstable environment. Even once they are back, sustainable competition with other large predators (humans) will keep the populations healthy.

Now not everyone needs to hunt. I don't, and that's ok. But hunting and fishing are valid and important strategies to restore and maintain ecosystems. Follow the guidelines, listen to the restrictions, but hunting, fishing, and harvesting are necessary.

Humans are not a blight on the world's ecosystems, we are a part of them. We have a job to do in the natural world. We are large omnivores, and that is ok.

As an interesting side note: consider researching invasive species where you live and if they are edible. For example, carp is actually very good to eat if prepared properly. Do some research to find places where contamination isn't an issue and enjoy a feast! If it has no natural predators, let's give it one, right?
