ace and aro books
went on a deep dive to find some aspec rep for myself and this is some of what i came up with. not official recommendations since i haven't read most of them, but they exist and i've put several of them on my own TBR list. these are all books i haven't seen on other rec lists, and i've done my best to confirm that the rep is aspec
if any of y'all have read these, feel free to share your thoughts or correct me if i've gotten something wrong
(organized alphabetically by title and separated by age demographic; mixed genres; subject to being updated)
(ftr just because an author is not specified to be ace or aro does not necessarily mean they are allo; i include that info if i happen to come across it, but i am not going out of my way to track down the identities of every single author)
(some of these books contain themes or scenarios that may be triggering for some readers; i have only done research to ascertain the ace/aro rep; if you find certain topics upsetting to read, it is your responsibility to do the research necessary to determine if a book is appropriate for you and to proceed into a story at your own discretion)

This, I feel, is as piquant as a picture can be. We are a production shop, we parse thousands of insect specimens collected by many people. At times, like this one, specimens come in that are uncommon or part of a study (here from a survey of Hart-Miller Island by Gene Scarpulla) and you take what you get. Normally it is easy to Photoshop out the pin, but in this case it is so tiny a specimen that it has integrated in with the pin and glue....the metallic-ness of both pin and wasp are complementary and the layout graceful which like any good photograph generates stories and questions which your mind answers in its search for meaning. Phew..., heady stuff, got to cut out the late night chocolate...

BACKGROUND:
alex grew up in brighton, england surrounded by a family he loves and that loves him. he had a good social life and okay grades. as a kid, he was always known to have a bright and loud personality, the kind of crazy in a child that was endearing and charming (yet extremely annoying to both of his sisters). he was always known that he would grow up to be a troublemaker, since he discovered his love for causing it from a young age. his mother (scarlett hart) was a child psychologist, and his father (james morgan) was a stay-at-home dad and an aspiring author. he actually named his son alexander after one of his main characters of a book he was planning on publishing. his older sister was isabelle morgan, and his younger sister was adopted when he was really young -- chloe morgan, better known as charming morgan, as she prefers.
//TW: MENTIONS OF DEATH AND LOSS// tragedy struck when he turned 13, and was woken up to the sounds of his father crying in the living room and red and blue lights coming in through his window. his mother and older sister had gotten into a car accident after she had picked isabelle up from a party she wasn’t supposed to be at, and they both died that same night from the impact. things around their house changed after that -- their father stopped writing, and tried his best to be a good father for both alex and charming but even alex could see that he was barely hanging on. charming had begun to rebel, putting even more worry onto alex and james -- james was more understanding and forgiving, because he knew it was probably her way of coping.
one year later, james impulsively decided that a fresh start was needed for them all, and wanted to move the family to magnetic island. as a 14 year old boy who had already gone through so much loss, alex was surprisingly in support of this -- he didn’t know why, and couldn’t explain it, but when he heard ‘magnetic island’, it’s like something in him clicked. he didn’t know what it was, but he felt it. and so, after a couple long months of getting ready for the big move, they finally made it -- just in time for alex to turn 15.
he loved his new life there -- he was finally beginning to feel like himself again. in fact, he feels like he’s exactly where he belongs, it’s as if the island brought out things in alex that he didn’t know about himself or things he didn’t know he was capable of. his fun, troublemaking nature came back to him, his need for fun and a party returned -- he was happy here. after he graduated school, charming had taken off to the states to pursue a life of her own -- something that james and alex weren’t too excited about, given she was only 16. but even at 16, charming could always take care of herself. alex, however, didn’t think that university was for him; he worked a couple of jobs here and there, and even got into a bit of gambling when he realized how GOOD he was at calling people’s bluff and manipulating others into scoring a win for himself. it was around 18 that alex first realized how good he was at persuading others to do whatever he wanted them to do, and at many points in his life, he took advantage of it. but most of the time, he just used it to fuck with people and entertain himself.
finally, at 22, he settled into a bartending job at olympus nightclub that he loved, so here he was -- 25 and still working there. in reality, at some point int he future, alex wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a writer, as well. but for someone so brave with everything else in his life, he had a hard time showing anyone else his writing for the time being.
PERSONALITY:
alex is a funny, class clown type that isn’t afraid to speak his mind at all and is always looking for anyway to occupy his time, and always looking for a party. he’s really easy to get along with, but he also has a small, tiny bit of a temper that usually manifests itself into fucking with whoever pissed him off and becoming the most sarcastic, punchable piece of shit you’ll ever meet. he will instigate fights at bars when he’s bored, and most of the time, they escalate into physical fights that he certainly cannot win. but if you ask him, he’d do it again, enjoying the adrenaline rush that came with it. a walking red flag, i know.
while alex may seem really happy on the surface, he’s dealing with a great deal of mental health issues -- mostly episodes of depression. but he still refuses to admit that he has issues, and that he needs professional help. if you ask him, he’ll bark back and say i’m fine.
from a young age, though, he was diagnosed with ADHD -- his mother caught on quick, with her being a child psychologist, and immediately took him to get evaluated. alex still constantly forgets to restock and take his pills without constant reminders from charming and his dad, and it makes him super hyperactive, impulsive, and easily distracted/bored and eager to move onto the next thing.
he can’t help but have a flirty personality. if he’s bored, he’ll probably flirt with someone either just for the purpose of knowing he can get them if he wanted to, or to fuck around and hook up (he wasn’t exactly a commitment type guy at all) . sooooo yes he a Whore.
at the end of the day, alex wants to become a writer like his father — or he’ll dream about it, while he reads and writes as a hobby in his own private notebook.
he’s a non-conformist at heart, and will always try to go against the grain of society and its norms. he enjoys sparking reactions out of people.
HEADCANONS: he likes to wear eye makeup and nail polish a lot, mostly puts the obscure eye makeup on at events and parties. he has a black 67 chevy impala car that he is obsessed with. alex is aware that not only was he great at lying and manipulating, but he was also good at calling people’s bluff so he spends a good amount of time gambling in any way he finds, because he knows he’ll win. his cat, soup, is a rescue cat.

they have been on the island for twelve years and are originally from brighton, london, uk. they are born on 24th august, 1996, which makes them a virgo, and are currently 25 years old. a trivia fact about alex is that he loves to read and write, and hopes to be a writer like his father one day. one song to describe them would be magnolia by gang of youths, and whilst some would describe them as reckless with a god complex, others would say they are playful and open-minded.

BACKGROUND:
alex grew up in brighton, england surrounded by a family he loves and that loves him. he had a good social life and okay grades. as a kid, he was always known to have a bright and loud personality, the kind of CRAZY in a child that was endearing and charming (yet extremely annoying to both of his sisters). his mother (scarlett hart) was a child psychologist, and his father (james morgan) was a stay-at-home dad and an aspiring author. he actually named his son alexander after one of his main characters of a book he was planning on publishing. his older sister was isabelle morgan, and his younger sister was adopted when he was really young -- chloe morgan, better known as charming morgan, as she prefers.
//TW: MENTIONS OF DEATH AND LOSS// tragedy struck when he turned 13, and was alerted by the lights of police cars from outside his bedroom window and the sound of his father crying in the living room, with charming coming down the stairs close behind him. two officers stood solemn at the door -- the ones who had delivered the news about their mother and older sister being in a fatal car crash. well, it was instantly fatal for isabelle. their mother, scarlett, spent a week in a coma before she couldn’t keep holding on any longer, either. //END TW//
growing up after that was a difficult thing for alex. his mental health suffered greatly, and that spark he once had when he was a kid vaporized. he was no longer the center of attention, no longer the funny and loud kid stealing the spotlight -- he faded into the background, alienated all his friends, and spent most of his high school and middle school career alone. would have been completely alone, if it wasn’t for his sister. james tried his best constantly to take on the role of both a mother and a father for them for the longest time, but even alex could see that he was falling apart on the inside. no one could replace the bright presence of scarlett. there were two holes in their heart, where their sister and mother used to be. charming, on the other hand, coped through rebellion -- she definitely worried her alex and his father every now and then, when she snuck out, and started to come back home some nights with a new tattoo or piercing.
it was only a year after their death that their father decided that making the move to magnetic island in australia would be best — brighton wasn’t associated with good memories anymore. and so, alex, charming, and their father had moved, but the holes in their hearts never filled up.
when he went to university outside of the island to study english lit, however, things started to turn around for him. he was slowly getting his old personality back -- or, rather, he was getting much better at pretending that all was well, because he got so tired of hearing people just asking him to smile already or stop being so down all the time. they wanted the old alex back, and he wanted them off his back. so if he had to put on a face while his mental health continued to deteriorate over the years, then so be it. it was around that time, when alex was 19 he met soleil. they hit it off in one night, and she had pitched him her idea for a film that she thought he would be perfect for. after that, alex impulsively quit university and spent the next few years making two movies with soleil and travelling around with her.
in october of 2021, alex found himself back in magnetic with soleil. he missed charming and his father, and needed to spend some time close to where his home was.
PERSONALITY:
alex is a funny, class clown type that isn’t afraid to speak his mind at all and is always looking for anyway to occupy his time, and always looking for a party.
he’s really easy to get along with, but he also has a small, tiny bit of a temper and a really smart mouth that gets him intro trouble more often than not he also likes to cause the trouble -- for funsies. he will instigate fights at bars when he’s bored, and most of the time, they escalate into physical fights that he certainly cannot win. but if you ask him, he’d do it again, enjoying the adrenaline rush that came with it. a walking red flag, i know.

HEADCANONS:
he likes to wear eye makeup and nail polish a lot, mostly puts the obscure eye makeup on at events and parties.
he has a 65 black mustang car that he is obsessed with.
while he has a fait bit of money, he doesn’t spend it -- he’s not materialistic. instead of buying shit for himself, alex will blow his money on parties, buying drinks and drugs for himself and all his friends, and buying stupid shit that has no real value like a fuckin flamethrower. he thrives on chaos and will probably be found doing some stupid shit.

Another view back towards Hart/Miller Island in the Chesapeake, at sunset (sun behind me as I was shooting). I liked the appearance of the clouds, and the tad bit of motion from the waves at the bottom.

NHL 2021 Prediction: Atlantic
1. Boston: Sure, Pasta, Krug, and Big Z aren’t here, but the Bruins are strong and deep enough to overcome such absences. Grzelcyk is for real good, and so are so are Kase and Craig Smith. The biggest questions are about Lauzon, Vaakanainen, and Studnika which are far from big ones. McAvoy is Norris good btw.
2. Philadelphia: Could honestly push for first. Depth everywhere, before even considering the return of both Patrick and Lindblom, or the development of Frost or Farabee. Hart is money, which might be enough to keep the flyers strong for years to come, and the league is better when this gang of pirates is relevant.
3. Pittsburgh: This division should be tight, and I was tempted to put the veteran squad of either Pittsburgh or Washington outside the playoffs. Can the goaltending and bottom 6 forward lines contribute enough? 3rd spot represents as yes, as Jarry seems pretty good (neither Fluery or Murray is a top 10 goalie) and there’s enough interesting players to fill the bottom of the lineup, at least during the regular season, as McCaan, Rodrigues, Bluger, and even Jankowski could deliver more.
4. Washington: Also didn’t have the heart to leave out of the post season. Samsonov is ready, and even though Chara kind of blocks some favourites in Seigenthaler and Fehervary, this team is deep everywhere, we know what to expect.
5. NY Islanders: It feels dumb to continuously underestimate the powers of Trotz and Lamoriello, yet here I am. Sorokin should be ready, and honestly perhaps the best goalie the Isles have had since a very long time. I think Wahlstrom, Dal Colle, and especially JOSH HO-SANG could easily hold down a top 9 spot, as Bridgeport has made everything it touches look bad for years. Now I’m angry. I think they’ll miss Toews on the back end, but in most divisions this would be a playoff team.
6. Ny Rangers: Post Lundqvist should be in good hands, Shesterkin. Fox is their best defenceman, DeAngelo and Trouba are just okay. Obviously, there’s some premier talent up front, Zibanejad and Panarin, but this team is really only a few young players exceeding expectations away from pushing the teams above them. Lafreniere, Kakko, and Miller could easily propel the Rangers to new heights.
7. Buffalo: Tough look for the Sabres, as in most other divisions they might have a better shot. Like the Rangers they have some elite offensive talent in Eichel and Hall. Dahlin figures to really establish himself as a force at some point, and Staal should help stabilize things down the middle a little. This group has gotten off to strong starts the past couple seasons, before fading into irrelevance and proving any optimism misguided. I still don’t really believe in the goaltending, Ullmark COULD be a 1A, but it would certainly help if he were on a team with more of an established quality. Instead there’s just so many questions throughout each phase of the game, although I believe they are on the path out of this karma sinkhole, it’s not the year to expect playoffs.
8. New Jersey: I really wanted to have the Devils not-last, but alas, here we are. Blackwood is good and fully part of the youth movement at G across this division. Crawford could honestly steal the starters job from him too (ahem, Sabres...) so this STABILITY should at least give the rest of the teams a fair evaluation. Hughes and Hischier will be a really strong centre tandem sometime soon, if not this year. Adding legit top 9 talents in Johnsson and Gusev will surely help in this regard. Murray will likewise help on the blueline, although this team will only be ready to take off when the likes of Holtz and Ty Smith start to occupy leading roles. Honestly, especially with some better defencemen, this team could be ready to compete soon.

List of all Ontario NDP candidates in the Ontario election!
Hey Ontario! There is an election coming up on June 7th, 2018. According to the polls, the only party who has enough momentum to beat the Ontario PC’s run by Doug Ford is the Ontario NDP (in polls they’re either tied, in 1st place or in 2nd place in the polls). Doug Ford has no platform and has pledged to cut billions of dollars (which is going to lead to cuts to healthcare, education, etc) and he opposes things like a $15/hour minimum wage. I know people want change and are sick of the Liberals, but he’s not a good leader.
The Ontario NDP also have a really good election platform. So check it out:
https://www.ontariondp.ca/platform
So I’ve compiled a list of every electoral district/riding with a link to what NDP candidate is running. Each candidate name links to a short biography of the candidate, and a link to their website where you can follow them on social media, donate or volunteer with their campaign.
If you do not know your riding/electoral district, use this tool to find out:
https://www.elections.on.ca/en/voting-in-ontario/electoral-districts.html
I’ve listed all ridings/electoral districts in alphabetical order.
Please share this widely.
There are 124 ridings in the election, so this post is long, so the rest of this post will be under a ‘read more’ button.

WHICH NHL TEAM HAS THE BEST GOALIES?
Jan 17th 2019
(Based on save percentage average. I picked two goalies with most games played that are currently on the team’s roster. If there was a tie, the team with smaller GAA is palced first. I also put down each team’s current place in the standings after the team’s name which got quite interesting...)
1. Winnipeg Jets (4)
Connor Hellebuyck and Laurent Brossoit - .925,5
2. New York Islanders (12)
Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss - .923
3. Dallas Stars (15)
Ben Bishop and Anton Khudobin - .922,5
4. Anaheim Ducks (21)
John Gibson and Ryan Miller - .920
5. Boston Bruins (10)
Jaroslav Halak and Tuukka Rask - .919,5
6. Los Angeles Kings (31)
Jonathan Quick and Jack Campbell - .918,5
7. St. Louis Blues (22)
Jake Allen and Jordan Binnington - .918
8. New Jersey Devils (25)
Keith Kinkaid and Mackenzie Blackwood - .917
9. Pittsburg Penguins (13)
Casey DeSmith and Matt Murray - .916
10. Tampa Bay Lightning (1)
Andrei Vasilevskiy and Louis Domingue - .915
11. Buffalo Sabres (14)
Carter Hutton and Linus Ullmark - .915
12. Ottawa Senators (29)
Craig Anderson and Anders Nilsson - .914
13. Toronto Maple Leaves (9)
Frederik Andreson and Garret Sparks - .913,5
14. Philadephia Flyers (28)
Brian Elliott and Carter Hart - .913
15. Nashville Predators (5)
Pekka Rinne and Juuse Saros - .912,5
16. Arizona Coyotes (23)

19. Vegas Golden Knights (6)
Marc-Andre Fleury and Malcolm Subban - .907,5
20. Minnesota Wild (17)
Devan Dubnyk and Alex Stalock - .906
21. Edmonton Oilers (19)
Cam Talbot and Mikko Koskinen - .905,5
22. Detroit Red Wings (25)
Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Bernier - .904,5
23. Montreal Canadiens (11)
Carey Price and Antti Niemi - .904,5
24. Calgary Flames (2)
David Rittich and Mike Smith - .903
25. Columbus Blue Jackets (7)
Sergei Bobrovsky and Joonas Korpisalo - .902,5
26. Vancouver Canucks (20)
Jacob Markstrom and Anders Nilsson (not currently on the roster) - .901,5
27. Colorado Avalanche (16)
Semyon Varlamov and Philipp Grubauer - .901,5
28. New York Rangers (24)
Henrik Lundqvist and Alexandar Georgiev - .901,5
29. San Jose Sharks (3)
Martin Jones and Aaron Dell - .897
30. Chicago Blackhawks (30)
Corey Crawford and Cam Ward - .893
31. Florida Panthers (27)
James Reimer and Roberto Luongo - .892,5
I know this doesn’t tell everything because there are huge differences in save percentages and the amount of games played between the goalies in the same team but I think this was an interesting ranking to make! Tell me if you’d like me to make more charts/ranking in the future!
