Harry Vernon Miller, BJU Class of 1976.
Harry Vernon Miller, II born on July 12, 1954, walked into the arms of his Savior on September 12, 2024. A devoted son of Harry V. Miller, Sr. and Ruth Miller. He was a beloved husband and father, devoted brother, friend to many, and primarily child of God. Harry loved the Lord, and he loved people. He never met a stranger and had a knack for making friends no matter where he went. This was evident throughout his entire life, but never more so than during his two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Harry relished the opportunity to talk to various nurses, doctors, and other patients about his faith. He also delighted in sharing his journey and faith in Christ to his many friends on social media. His faith, spirit, and strength were evident in all that he did.
Harry graduated from Allegany High School (Cumberland, MD) in 1972. He went on to attend Bob Jones University, earning a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in theology. Harry spent his professional career dedicated to the education of young adults, as a teacher, administrator, curriculum representative, and eventually scholarship administrator. He was a champion for school choice, and an early contributor in the state of Arizona for school choice. His contributions and presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him and work with him.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years; Deanna, their children Jason (Leah) and daughter Amanda (Jonthan) Froes; three grandchildren; and father, Harry V. Miller. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Miller. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity and warmth.
A memorial service to celebrate Harry's life will be held on October 5 at 2 pm at Tri-City Baptist Church, Chandler, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Apache Baptist Academy in Bylas, AZ (www.ababylas.org) in Harry's memory.
Harry V. Miller, II will be remembered for his love, his laughter, and the lasting impact he had on those around him. May he rest in peace.

The 80s Grue-Crew and guest Ralph Miller III take a trip to a hospital in Canada to diagnose Blue Monkey (1987). This one features the beginnings of an epidemic, some ludicrous laser shenanigans, an extraordinary amount of green goo, and a freaky larva that magically metamorphoses (we think) into a giant insect that begins killing patients in the now quarantined hospital. All of this is accomplished with some generally good effects work and an abundance of pseudo-sciencing. Steven Railsback, Gwynyth Walsh, Don Lake, Susan Anspach, and John Vernon jump into the fray, accompanied by Marwella and Dede, a pair of golden girls getting drunk in the background, and Robin Dukes and Joe Flaherty having their first baby. Ah, yes. Canadian horror has such a unique flavor. As you can tell, there’s plenty of material for our talkabout… even though there’s no actual blue monkey.
At the time of this writing, Blue Monkey (1987) is available to stream from Tubi and multiple PPV sources.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Jeff, will be Angel (1984), starring… wait for it… Rory Calhoun! Joining him are Donna Wilkes, Cliff Gorman, Dick Shawn, Susan Tyrrell, and John Diehl, all cavorting on the strip. Unfortunately, there’s a serial killer on the prowl.
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans – so leave them a message or comment on the Gruesome Magazine Youtube channel, on the Gruesome Magazine website, or email the Decades of Horror 1980s podcast hosts at [email protected].
Check out this episode!

Z Cars - Quiet as the Grave (4 November 1974)
Tumblr media
It's a seemingly quiet Sunday night at Newtown police station but while the police are bored, complaining about the rain and their wages while using the quiet as a chance to catch up on paperwork, a gang of robbers led by Macy (Norman Rossington) who are working for London gangsters Sharkey (John Junkin) and Vernon (Harry Landis) are trying to drill into a bank from an abandoned property, but will the noise they make attract police attention?
Quiet as the Grave, written by Bob Baker and Dave Martin is an extremely solid episode of Z Cars that balances it's 2 plotlines nicely. The dark robbery scenes are extremely well directed by Derek Martinus and there's a certain amount of tension not just between the gangster bosses and Macy's gang but also over whether the robbers will reach the loot before daybreak and if the patrolling PC Quilley (Douglas Fielding) will discover what they're up to...
The quiet police station scenes are played rather humorously and after having found DS Miller (Geoffrey Whitehead) rather dull in Friends, he's a lot better this time particularly in the scenes he shares with DC Skinner (Ian Cullen) while Sergeant Culshaw (John Challis) and PC Quilley also have some great scenes together particularly with Quilley reluctant to continue patrolling in the rainy night weather.
Eventually the police see some action as an old homeless major (Alan Foss) complains of being unable to sleep due to noises he hears in the place where he's currently squatting, could these noises be connected to the ongoing robbery?
The only flaw I can think of is that the endless chatter of Lee (Norman Beaton) can be just as annoying for the viewer as it is to his fellow robbers, but this is a minor irritation. Overall, an excellent and enjoyable episode that provides a welcome mixture of tension, humor and character moments.

About Me
You can call me K because I'm not about putting too much of my personal information out on the internet (there's a lot of creeps out there, peeps)
22 | '02 | She/Her | Straight | American | White
Some of my hobbies include Reading, Writing, Listening to Music, Going on Walks, and Playing Mobile Puzzle Games.
You can also find me on AO3 and Wattpad
AO3: Ks_World
Wattpad: Casuallypretty
*Note: Out of all 3 platforms, I am most active on Wattpad, only because I am still learning how to operate Tumblr and AO3 as a Writer. I am on Tumblr and AO3, but I have mostly been reading fics. Recently, I have been wanting to try out writing on both platforms, but I still need to figure out how to properly use them. So, until then, you can find me more on Wattpad. I am currently in the process of releasing fics, but I thought I would try to spread my name out there more as a Writer by using more than one platform. I have over 100 drafts on Wattpad that I am in the process of writing and have two published stories, but they are currently on a hiatus until I find inspiration for them again. As of Tumblr and AO3, I have nothing in the works yet, but I hope to be releasing content soon as I am trying to get back into writing again. So, please look forward to future works from me! 🧡

🎬 “SHREK 2”
🔎 Género: Animación / Comedia / Fantástico / Parodia / Cuentos / Fantasía Medieval / Secuela
⌛️ Duración: 93 minutos
✍️ Guión: Joe Stillman, David N. Weiss, J. David Stem.
Tumblr media
📕 Personajes: William Steig
"JURY RETURNED TRUE BILLS AT PEACE SESSION," Hamilton Spectator. December 6, 1933. Page 7. ---- Several Face Trial on Serious Counts ---- Frederick Pollington Was Remanded ---- Half of Copetown in Court To-day ---- The grand jury at the winter general sessions of the peace before Julge George C. Thomson this morning returned true bills in all the indictments given it to consider. A the conclusion of the current civil case, George W. Ballard, K.C., representing the crown prosecution, will proceed against the following: Sam Hrynowic and Paul Gawrelez, intimidation; Willis Pelly and Edward Wells, armed robbery; John Lett, criminal negligence; Alfred Little and Thomas O'Donnell, charged with serious offenses, and Joseph Barth, drunken driving.
John Hurst, 122 Main street east, who was committed for trial by Magistrate Burbidge on a charge of shopbreaking with intent at the Dominion Stores, 228 King street west, and who elected trial by a judge, appeared before Judge Thomson this morning and pleaded guilty to the count against him. After His Honour heard an outline of the case by Constable Langdon, he reserved judgment judgment until the end of the criminal session and remand- ed Hurst accordingly.
The crown requested an adjournment in the case of Garth Miller, committed for trial also by the city police magistrate on a charge of auto theft. The reason given was that police are still trying to locate the alleged accomplice of the accused man. The hearing was adjourned until the next court of competent jurisdiction. J. P. O'Reilly appeared on behalf of Miller. The case of Fred D. Woods, charged with criminal negligence following an accident on the Brantford highway, was adjourned until March session.
Remanded For Sentence Frederick Pollington, 242 Robert street, who obtained a divorce from his wife at the last session only to find himself in another court on a charge of bigamy, was remanded for sentence on two days' notice following the appeal of his counsel, D. A. Robinson.
Mr. Robinson explained to Judge Thomson, following Pollington's plea of guilty, that he was asking a suspension of sentence because of the accused man's age - he is 28 - and because he entered into the second and bigamous form of marriage, after he parted parted with his first wife because of allegeded threats by the father of the girl he was going with. His divorce decree will not be made absolute for six months, and as he intends to marry the second girl legally at the expiration of that time, he was dealt with leniently by Judge Thomson, who remanded him for sentence on two days' notice. Bail was set at $2,000.
Was Settled The suit of William R. Clark, a minor, and his father, Vernon R. Clark, against Norman and Percy Smith for $500 damages for injuries sustained by the minor plaintiff when he was struck by the Smith car on Cameron avenue on July 7 last, was settled. This was the first civil jury case on the list before Judge Thomson. The young man suffered minor head injuries when he was hit. Haines & Wills acted on behalf of the plaintiffs, while the defendants were represented by Harry F. Hazell
Reputation Hurt It seemed as though the whole village of Copetown was into the court room crowded room to hear the claim of Gordon DeForest against another Copetown farmer, Wilfred Durham, for $1,000 damages and costs for alleged malicious statements which are claimed to have. damaged his reputation. The plaintiff claims that on St. Patrick's day last the defendant made the damaging statements. He further claims that his reputation has been so injured that Horace Shipman, the mortgagee of his farm, has commenced foreclosure proceedings, and that he has suffered loss of credit and standing in the community.
H. F. Hazell is acting for DeForest, while the defendant is represented by Read & Innes, of Brantford. This case, a jury trial, is continuing.

Spidey Noir Live-Action Lands Cage on Prime Video
Tumblr media
Get ready for a web-slinging adventure unlike any other! Nicolas Cage is set to suit up as Spider-Man Noir, but this time, it's live-action! That's right, the iconic actor will star in a brand new series titled "Noir," coming soon to MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. This marks the first-ever live-action portrayal of Spider-Man Noir, a character Cage previously voiced in the critically acclaimed "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." But forget the bright lights and playful banter of the usual Spidey flicks. "Noir" takes us to the gritty underbelly of 1930s New York City. Cage plays a down-on-his-luck private investigator with a dark secret: he's the city's superhero, Spider-Man Noir! Spider-Man Noir's Story to Screen This ain't your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Imagine a hard-boiled detective with a web-shooter and a serious case of the blues. That's the vibe we're getting from "Noir," and with Nicolas Cage at the helm, you know it's gonna be a wild ride. The show boasts a powerhouse team behind the scenes as well. The "Into the Spider-Verse" dream team of Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal are all on board as executive producers. They're joined by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will co-showrun and write the series. Harry Bradbeer, known for his work on shows like "Fleabag" and "Killing Eve," will also executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Amazon seems pretty excited to bring "Noir" to its Prime Video audience. Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, called it "a uniquely special opportunity" to expand the Marvel universe. They're clearly confident Cage is the perfect choice for the role, praising his ability to bring "pathos, pain, and heart" to the character. Sony Pictures Television Studios agrees, with president Katherine Pope saying Cage is "singular" and exactly who they envisioned for the role. This is a big deal for Cage too. "Noir" will be his first-ever regular television role! The Academy Award winner is a legend in the film industry, but this marks a new chapter in his career. Fans can't wait to see him bring his signature intensity to the small screen. With a talented cast, a stellar production team, and a unique take on a classic character, "Noir" has all the ingredients for a hit. So, keep an eye out for this one, Spider-man fans! Just remember, this ain't your average Spider-Man. This is Noir. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lvf8OTdJwo Read the full article

Today we remember the passing of Eubie Blake who died February 12, 1983 in Brooklyn, New York
James Hubert "Eubie" Blake, was an American composer, lyricist, and pianist of ragtime, jazz, and popular music. In 1921, he and his long-time collaborator Noble Sissle wrote Shuffle Along, one of the first Broadway musicals to be written and directed by African Americans. Blake's compositions included such hits as "Bandana Days", "Charleston Rag", "Love Will Find a Way", "Memories of You" and "I'm Just Wild About Harry". The 1978 Broadway musical Eubie! showcased his works.
Eubie Blake was born February 7, 1887, at 319 Forrest Street, in Baltimore, Maryland. Of the many children born to former slaves Emily "Emma" Johnstone and John Sumner Blake, he was the only one to survive childhood. John Sumner Blake was a stevedore on the Baltimore Docks.
Blake claimed in later life to have been born in 1883, but records published beginning in 2003—U.S. Census, military, and Social Security records and Blake's passport application and passport—uniformly give his birth year as 1887.
Blake's musical training began when he was four or five years old. While out shopping with his mother, he wandered into a music store, climbed on the bench of an organ, and started "foolin’ around". When his mother found him, the store manager said to her, "The child is a genius! It would be criminal to deprive him of the chance to make use of such a sublime, God-given talent." The Blakes purchased a pump organ for US$75.00, making payments of 25 cents a week. When Blake was seven, he received music lessons from a neighbor, Margaret Marshall, an organist for the Methodist church. At age 15, without his parents' knowledge, he began playing piano at Aggie Shelton's Baltimore bordello. Blake got his first big break in the music business in 1907, when the world champion boxer Joe Gans hired him to play the piano at Gans's Goldfield Hotel, the first "black and tan club" in Baltimore. Blake played at the Goldfield during the winters from 1907–1914, spending his summers playing clubs in Atlantic City. During this period, he also studied composition in Baltimore with Llewellyn Wilson.
According to Blake, he also worked the medicine show circuit and was employed by a Quaker doctor. He played a Melodeon strapped to the back of the medicine wagon. Blake stayed with the show only two weeks, however, because the doctor's religion didn't allow the serving of Sunday dinner.
Blake said he composed the melody of the "Charleston Rag" in 1899, when he would have been only 12 years old. It was not committed to paper, however, until 1915, when he learned to write musical notation.
In 1912, Blake began playing in vaudeville with James Reese Europe's Society Orchestra, which accompanied Vernon and Irene Castle's ballroom dance act. The band played ragtime music, which was still quite popular. Shortly after World War I, Blake joined forces with the performer Noble Sissle to form a vaudeville musical act, the Dixie Duo. After vaudeville, the pair began work on a musical revue, Shuffle Along, which incorporated songs they had written, and had a book written by F. E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles. When it premiered in June 1921, Shuffle Along became the first hit musical on Broadway written by and about African-Americans. The musical also introduced hit songs such as "I'm Just Wild About Harry" and "Love Will Find a Way." Rudolf Fisher insisted that Shuffle Along "had ruined his favorite places of African-American sociability in Harlem" due to the influx of white patrons. The reliance on "stereotypical black stage humor" and "the primitivist conventions of cabaret," in the words of Thomas Brothers, made the show a hit, running for 504 performances with 3 years of national tours.
Blake made his first recordings in 1917, for the Pathé record label and for Ampico piano rolls. In the 1920s he recorded for the Victor and Emerson labels among others.
In 1923, Blake made three films for Lee de Forest in de Forest's Phonofilm sound-on-film process: Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, featuring their song "Affectionate Dan"; Sissle and Blake Sing Snappy Songs, featuring "Sons of Old Black Joe" and "My Swanee Home"; and Eubie Blake Plays His Fantasy on Swanee River, featuring Blake performing his "Fantasy on Swanee River". These films are preserved in the Maurice Zouary film collection in the Library of Congress collection. He also appeared in Warner Brothers' 1932 short film Pie, Pie Blackbird with the Nicholas Brothers, Nina Mae McKinney, and Noble Sissle. That same year he and his orchestra provided as well most of the music for the film Harlem Is Heaven.
In July 1910, Blake married Avis Elizabeth Cecelia Lee, proposing to her in a chauffeur-driven car he hired. Blake and Lee met around 1895, when both attended Primary School No. 2, at 200 East Street in Baltimore. In 1910, Blake brought his newlywed to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he had already found employment at the Boathouse nightclub.
In 1938, Avis was diagnosed with tuberculosis. She died later that year, at the age of 58. Of his loss, Blake said, "In my life I never knew what it was to be alone. At first when Avis got sick, I thought she just had a cold, but when time passed and she didn’t get better, I made her go to a doctor and we found out she had TB … I suppose I knew from when we found out she had the TB, I understood that it was just a matter of time."
While serving as bandleader with the USO during World War II, he met Marion Grant Tyler, the widow of the violinist Willy Tyler. Blake and Tyler married in 1945. She was a performer and a businesswoman and became his valued business manager until her death in 1982. In 1946, Blake retired from performing and enrolled in New York University, where he studied the Schillinger System of music composition, graduating in two and a half years. He spent the next two decades using the Schillinger System to transcribe songs that he had memorized but had never written down.
In the 1970s and 1980s, public interest in Blake's music rekindled following the release of his 1969 retrospective album, The 86 Years of Eubie Blake.
Blake was a frequent guest of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin. He was featured by leading conductors, such as Leonard Bernstein and Arthur Fiedler. In 1977 he played Will Williams in the Jeremy Kagan biographical film Scott Joplin. By 1975, he had been awarded honorary doctorates from Rutgers, the New England Conservatory, the University of Maryland, Morgan State University, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn College, and Dartmouth. On October 9, 1981, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Ronald Reagan.
Eubie!, a revue featuring the music of Blake, with lyrics by Noble Sissle, Andy Razaf, Johnny Brandon, F. E. Miller, and Jim Europe, opened on Broadway in 1978. The show was a hit at the Ambassador Theatre, where it ran for 439 performances. The production received three nominations for Tony Awards, including one for Blake's score. The show was filmed in 1981 with the original cast members, including Lesley Dockery, Gregory Hines and Maurice Hines. Blake performed with Gregory Hines on the television program Saturday Night Live on March 10, 1979.
Blake continued to play and record until his death, on February 12, 1983, in Brooklyn, five days after events celebrating his purported 100th birthday(which was actually his 96th birthday).
He was interred in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. His headstone, engraved with the musical notation of "I'm Just Wild About Harry", was commissioned by the African Atlantic Genealogical Society. The bronze sculpture of Blake's bespectacled face was created by David Byer-Tyre, curator and director of the African American Museum and Center for Education and Applied Arts, in Hempstead, New York. The original inscription indicated his correct year of birth, but individuals close to him insisted that Blake be indulged and paid to have the inscription changed.
