How commercial is the modern electronica in comparison to the older one? Listen, one call tell many modern electronica musicians have a wish to reach more people than some of their elder peers that saw a success as something to be happy with, yet they did not really chase the latter that much. The younger musicians of electronica are different. For instance, Flume seemed to be indie-like, though his debut already had a lot of intriguing guests and his tunes reached the upper tier of the charts. Still, I wouldn't call his music commercial, he just happened to stumble upon a sound that got the zeitgeist rolling. Of course, many of these players continue to work without the previous triumphs, showing the modern electronica as a victim of the hype.

Australian producer and vocalist KUČKA, loved and respected both for her solo music and her shining appearances on songs from the likes of Vince Staples, Cosmos Midnight, and Flume, has returned with her first single in three years, Drowning, an effervescent future pop aria featuring additional production by Flume.
Inspired by a recent move to LA, Laura Jane Lowther reflects on the melancholy of leaving home with her signature avant-electronic taken to new heights. Drowning is accompanied by a video directed by Dillon Howls and KUČKA.
Laura Lowther shares, “The lyrics of 'Drowning' originated from intense imagery I saw when we first started producing the track. The textures we used made me think of someone lying just underneath the surface of a lake. I thought about my own life and times where I felt I was barely able to keep afloat and wanted to capture that feeling, but also wanted the track to feel optimistic as I definitely wasn’t in that place anymore. I felt like the delicacy of the vocals showed this vulnerability but the distorted beats showed power and I love how they work together to create a jagged yet beautiful texture.”
‘Drowning’ is out now via Lucky Me/Warp Records and Soothsayer, buy/stream it here.
