And, well, here we are. It's been nearly three years since the original launch and the final Our Life: Beginnings & Always DLC is finally available. I cannot believe it took this long, and I can believe it even less that so many people have continued to follow us over such a lengthy development. Support for our team and the game has never wavered no matter how much time has gone by. That's something I'll always appreciate regardless of what happens in the future.

So I was going through your blog (again) and found some of your stuff mentions fsau Raz having ADHD, as somebody with adhd I’m intrigued, may I have some of those headcanons (canons??) related to that? Also, I would give “a penny for your thoughts” but I’m out of pennies, so here’s various images of a drawing of ur blorbo I put next to my animals, note that a rock had to be added in one picture to keep him from flying away (BONUS: his now permanent place with the wifi guardian frog)

NOTHING brings me more joy than seeing physical drawings of these guys, like, out and about. in situations. thank you for this gift, and ALSO for the great ask because it's a perfect chance to ramble

so first of all, canon Raz having ADHD is very real to me. he's constantly fidgeting and moving around, getting distracted by sidequests and scavenger hunt objectives, always talking to himself out loud, gotta write everything down so he remembers it because there's so much to DO!, running away from home because his dad yelled at him one time and now Raz assumes he must hate him forever... i could go on, but i think there's a lot of room for interpretation there!

in my headcanon, he never got diagnosed as a kid. maybe there were some notes about it in his reports each year, sure - but a little hyperactivity and distractability never seemed to slow him down. he excelled in lessons and on missions, and when he was with his family their performances gave him something to focus that energy into. it was only really when he turned 18 and graduated to a full agent that the cracks started to show.

because there's a big difference between the responsibilities you have as a minor, and the responsibilities you have as an 18-year-old living away from home! one who's expected to cook and clean for themselves, and take care of adult life stuff, and also work the 9-to-5 office job he's just graduated into that involves sitting in front of a computer and write reports all day.

short-term, he found he could get himself to power through a deadline with energy drinks and psi-pops (a lot of psi-pops...)

long-term, something had to give. he was working himself to exhaustion, constantly stressed, swinging between days spent staring at his computer screen doing nothing and all-nighters desperately trying to finish his paperwork before the deadline. it just didn't make any sense to him. he'd finally started his job as a Psychonaut, he was living independently like he'd always dreamed, he'd gotten top surgery after planning it for so long. he should have everything he ever wanted. why wasn't he happy?

following a deep post-surgical depression, about a month before his 19th birthday Raz was living out of his car, couch-surfing or sleeping in his office. he got kicked out of his apartment after falling behind on bills and rent. it wasn't that he didn't have the money, it was all just too much for him to stay on top of.

he'd probably have stayed in that misery hole for a lot longer if Frazie hadn't marched into his life and demanded he let her help him move into a new place, or she was telling mom that he was homeless. together, they sorted through all of his possessions from the last place - everything that had been hastily shoved in his car, or tossed in a box in his office, piled in a heap that was giving him anxiety even looking at it.

things do get better for him from there.

when he eventually explains things to Hollis, she gently suggests that he should get a roommate. he ends up moving in with Phoebe, and they become pretty good friends after a couple months! something about having another person around to help do the chores and wash the dishes and share the space helps, even if it takes him a while to admit it.

he gets his ADHD diagnosis, and finding the exact right medication and dose is a journey he's still on years later - but they're a huge help in getting him to actually knuckle down and finish his work on time. and the whole thing ends up being a chance for him to take a step back and really think about what he wants to do with his life. he'd always assumed that being a Psychonaut was his dream, but he'd never really reckoned with what that dream would look like before.

in the end, he sticks with it, but also decides to follow Lili's example in branching out. he applies to study a part-time Bachelor's in Psychology on a remote course, and gets accepted. juggling missions and paperwork and study and relationships (because the whole thing made him realise he also wasn't setting aside any time for himself, and wow, dating is a thing) is a lot - but he manages to figure it out, day by day.

(Lili comes back to the Psychonauts after graduating. she and Raz have both changed a lot over those four years, but on their first mission together they hit it off like a house on fire - and the rest is history!)

Happy Belated Birthday to the ethereal Gilbert Cocteau, one of the two tragic protagonist of Keiko Takemiya's controversial LGBTQ manga Kaze to Ki no Uta.

Gilbert Cocteau is as a beautiful as an angel, but his life is filled with sadness and horror due to being abandoned by his mother and sexually abused by his sinister uncle. At the exclusive all boys boarding school of Laconblade Academy, he finds love and companionship with the kind hearted but also misunderstood fellow student Serge Battour. However, their fairytale ending is not to be as they encounter the harsher realities of life in 19th century France.

Although it is very disturbing at times, Kaze to Ki no Uta is one of my all time favourite manga series due to the compelling emotional content and the breathtaking art.

A Long Road Home - Page 85 Author's Notes

Page 85

There was supposed to be another panel of the two of them celebrating Laudna’s birthday:

Panel 5: It's Laudna's birthday, or as close to it as she can remember. The remains of an iced gingerbread cake with a candle on it is on the table, with crumbs on both of their plates and a little slice set out for Pâté on a saucer. Laudna is exclaiming in delight over the collection of calico fabric squares for quilting Imogen has given her.

In this continuity she has a Duscar birthday; both here and in Remember Us she mentions that the fatal dinner party, which most likely took place on one of the last days of Cuersaar since Vox Machina rolls into Whitestone on 2 Duscar to discover the aftermath of it, happened just a few weeks before her 20th birthday. (How kind of the Briarwoods to host a fancy party just for her!)

However, when I went back to the Encyclopedia Exandria article on the Exandrian calendar to get a better idea of when I had meant for it to be I realized something I’ve been totally overlooking all this time: Marquet is in the southern hemisphere and has opposite seasons! So even though it’s winter for them now Laudna’s birthday is actually half a year a way. (And incidentally probably close to Imogen’s, since I had envisioned a summer birthday for her.)

But since Winter’s Crest is not a Marquesian holiday and they could theoretically celebrate it whenever they wanted, I figured I could keep that panel as it is and just let the one about her birthday go (or move it into the next chapter, which takes place in the summer). That panel is largely lifted from my fic Come In From the Cold, in which Imogen goes all in on Winter’s Crest to make Laudna happy. So there’s the matching red flannel jammies, Pâté’s gingerbread house, the sunflower-embroidered handy haversack (wrapped in paper painted by little rat feet), and Chateaubriand the Mari Lwyd. (The fic goes into greater detail about the customs, which I largely drew from the rowdy Tudor-Era traditions of Christmas because that seemed the most thematically appropriate for Winter’s Crest in Whitestone, in particular wassailing which, appropriately enough for the Mintyverse Bradburys, involved making a ruckus in the apple orchard to ensure the health of the trees.) The only different detail is the enchanted teakettle, which in the fic Imogen gives to Laudna as a present rather than having bought it previously at the general store. So the contents of that box with the striped paper are a mystery.

They have red pajamas not just because Laudna insists that matching pajamas for the whole family are an essential part of the holiday but because of a belief persisting since the Elizabethan era that scarlet was the warmest color to wear. From the 17th century onward and throughout the early-mid 19th century especially red flannel was the popular choice for winter petticoats, underwear, and pajamas because it was believed that red flannel worn next to the skin would protect against cold and diseases and serve as a remedy for rheumatism. (This is where the classic image of the red flannel drop-seater union suit comes from.) Examples of this can be seen in the literature of the time, (off the top of my head) red flannel nightgowns and nightshirts are described on all of the children in Little House in the Big Woods and in Little Women Beth wears a red merino wool wrapper while recovering from scarlet fever.

Other details on this page include a halfling with a tail because I really like that headcanon, Chloe Bell haberdashery named after my old cat, and a tavern called the Gloating Goat with a sign featuring the smug goat meme, and portraits of Pâté and Calamari as Victorian-era children. I thought Laudna’s vision for them would be a cross between Beatrix Potter and Victorian death photography, which is why they’re wearing fancy little outfits but listing stiffly and awkwardly in the frame. (I mean, any portrait of Pâté is a death portrait as it is.)

----knock, knock, knock-----

"Touya get up! We're going to be late!"

"It is the same time every year! We get there 15 minutes early and awkwardly wait until midnight! Lets try something new and get there 5 minutes before instead!"

Touya had become awfully crankier each time he was woken by the rocks. Nevertheless, it was a facade to his true feelings about his birthday.

11:23 PM, JULY 19TH 7 YEARS AGO

----knock, knock, knock----

"What in the fuck?" Touya never seems to have such a colorful mouth as a kid. He got it from when his father would play video games with him (and it stuck to this day). Touya opened his bedroom window to find you at the very bottom, in a birthday hat and holding a small cake in your hand. As you signaled for him to come down, he asked what was the reason for all of this? Birthdays, of course.

You had always seemed to celebrate birthdays in the biggest way possible, either with large housepartys or big rollercoasters to go down with your best friend. Regardless, they have always included him. This time, you were going to go blow out your birthday candles at midnight while stargazing by the river together.

"Alright, but why AT midnight?"

"You have to start the day off right! This is only the beginning for my 10th birthday. Means a lot to me that you are coming!!"

"Yeah yeah, you said by our spot down in the river?"

"The perfect place to start off the perfect day!"

"Lets hurry up then, cant miss midnight."

As you and Touya make the treacherous walk to your "spot" by the river, you had talked about anything and everything. How his familys doing with his parents getting divorced so recently, your own experience with that, etc. Nothing had mattered though, because you were walking to your spot with him. Sometimes, you would find him before school there, or you would make a stop from the way back. Regardless, it became a safe haven for the both of you.

As you blew out your candles from Touyas countdown to midnight, you realized all you wanted to do was stay there with him---eating all the cake in the world. Nevertheless, being the "reasonable" one of you two, Touya had figured you both needed to head back to your respective houses---not without thanking him of course. You had almost started walking back to your house, until your feet had turned around on its own and ran towards Touya, tackling him to the ground.

"Thank you for agreeing to come out with me!"

"I figured why not, I had nothing better to do"

As you playfully shoved his shoulder, both of you said your respective goodbyes before heading back.

11:35 PM JANUARY 17TH 7 YEARS AGO

----knock, knock----

"Touyaaa wait up"

Your groggy voice tried reaching the man outside. While seemingly annoyed, Touya was giddy inside. His favorite time of the year was perfect split apart, between the late summer of your birthday, and the peak winter of his--he gets two of the best hangout days with you. However, they always started at the river.

"3....2....1! Happy Birthday Touya!"

Touyas eyes glistened from the candlelight. He had shown a small smile, but that was all you needed to understand how much he truly loved this tradition. As you layed your head on his shoulder, nothing felt more like peace than this moment right now.

Every year from then on, you guys would start your birthdays together at the river--regardless if you're in a fight, haven't seen eachother, etc. You will always be at the river.

11:45 PM JANUARY 17TH

"Remind me why we do this twice a year?"

"Shut up, do you ever remember when this started? We were 10."

"Seriously? 7 years of waking me up for an hour to go blow out candles?"

"Not at all! 7 years of the best tradition I have ever started!"

"Yeah yeah, lets focus on not eating shit ahead of us, shall we?"

As you and Touya eventually made it to the river, you sat down side by side, eyeing the $5 store bought cake you would always grab. Turns out, it was never about the cake.

Over the years, you and Touya had gotten so close to each other that physical touch isn't a bother anymore. You would hold hands to help guide each other places, lay heads on one another's shoulders, and be in the closest proximity to another at all times.

Touya grabs your hand, and brings it onto his thigh, as he starts lighting the candles.

"You know, I'm really going to miss this."

"Why would you miss it?"

"Because eventually the tradition will end, like they all do."

"And who says that?"

"I dont know, just like common sense or whatever. Point is, I dont want to miss you."

"Yeah. I'm not going to miss you."

"Excuse me? What in the hell do you mean by that?"

You slap Touya on the shoulder as he seemingly says the most offensive thing he could. Why would he not miss you? You've been friends for a decade now.

"No no no, what I mean is that I won't miss you, because I wont need to."

Touya cackles from your frightened face thinking of even the idea of him not missing you. How could you ever think such a thing? He hasnt known more days without you than he has with you, and he'd like to keep it that way.

Suddenly, your breath hitches. You had never head Touya insinuate anything sweet, but knew he had it somewhere deep down in his heart. As you look through his bright blue eyes, you'll see nothing but love. Love, questioning, trust, and hope. Hope that you feel the same way about him as he does about you.

As you made him completely change his ideas of birthdays, he had a feeling you had completely changed his world--without him knowing it.

He had grown up scared of the day you'll leave him, but seemingly enough, that day never came.

Suddenly, you're snapped back into the moment, as you watch Touya's eyes flicker between your lips and eyes. Is that what hes really asking for? You guys never had crossed that line.

Nevertheless, you find yourself leaning towards him, breathless as your heart spikes out of your chest.

As your lips connect with his, everything else in the world melted away. NRC School Newspaper: A Birthday Interview with Ryker Crowley

Happy birthday!

Thank you! I gotta say that this has been one of my best birthdays so far! I love how NRC celebrates birthdays, and since we had one yesterday, it's like one very long party.

That's right, we celebrated Riddle's birthday yesterday.

Yup! Me and Riddle are pretty similar in a lot of ways. Aside from our birthday's being one day apart, we're also the same height, and even some of our personality. I'm a big rule follower and pretty strict when it comes to my school work and grades too.

Are you two close?

Well I'm a Heartslabyul student and he's my dorm leader, so we see each other often. I'd say we get along pretty well, but I wouldn't consider us close.

Who are you close with?

I get along really well with Ruggie, Silver, and Idia. I'd consider them pretty close friends. Ruggie is always fun to do practically anything with, even if it's working jobs, he can make it fun. Silver is really easy to talk to and fun to hang around with. He's the kind of friend I know I can always count on. Idia is the one that I spend most of my time with tho. It's not intentional, but when you're playing your favorite game or watching your favorite anime, you tend to lose track of time.

What are your favorite games and animes?

Some of my favorite games are Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Pokemon, and Stardew Valley. As for anime...my favorite has to be One Piece. It's a very long one, and I'm not done yet, but I love it. I also like Black Butler, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Death Note.

Do you have any dreams for the future?

I want to become an author. I love writing so much, and I'm even taking writing college classes right now. I have a bunch of short stories that I've written and debated creating a separate blog for, but I'm unsure if anyone would even care about it. But I also have an idea for a book I want to write, so completing and publishing that would be my ultimate goal.

Speaking of your writing, how is your blog doing?

It's doing great! I say it often, but I never imagined I'd get as much support as I did. I'm really grateful to all of my followers who give me feedback and requests. I really love seeing their comments and responding. Hearing their thoughts, what they want more of, and interacting with them always makes me happy!

What's your most popular series?

Definitely my broken sibling relationship series. I'm honestly surprised how much everyone loves the angst. It started with Vil after a slight mention that I had an idea for how it could go wrong, but people keep wanting more. Those take a little bit longer to write than most requests, but I always love doing it.

Considering you've written so much sibling angst, if you had to choose someone at NRC to be your sibling, who would it be?

Oh man. That's a pretty tough decision, but I think I would have to say Malleus. He's pretty lonely most of the time, but I think if he had a sibling, he would be a bit happier. I firmly believe that Malleus would treat his sibling very well. Plus, I think growing up with him would've been very fun. I would've loved to be a part of Malleus' family.

Do you consider anyone in Twisted Wonderland your family?

I've accepted Crowley as my bird dad. I know most people wouldn't, but I do.

How are you enjoying Twisted Wonderland?

I love it! I've been playing for a little over a year now. I originally came to Twisted Wonderland through Obey Me, but I play more Twisted Wonderland now. I'm a proud owner of 25 SSR cards, and love the story. My favorite characters have to be Sebek, Leona, and Silver.

What are you talking about?

Don't worry about it.

Uh, okay. Can you tell us about your clothing style?

Sure! It varies from day to day depending of if I'm feeling more feminine or masculine, but lately I've been wearing a lot of Hawaiian shirts. My friend @l1ttleclouds actually made me an aesthetic board for my normal style. Take a look!

Nice! Are there any fun facts about you that most people don't know?

I always have trouble coming up with fun facts, especially ones that most people don't know. So I decided to come up with a few that people may or may not know; I love horror, I have a few succulents, and my eyes have two different colors. To clarify that last one, my eyes aren't two different colors, but each eye has two colors in it. Not mixed together, but separated. So about half of each iris is green, and half is brown. Fun!
