First obscure rp search of the New Year!
I honestly don’t foresee anyone reaching out in regards to this, but why not try?
So the season 2 of The Recruit coming out soon, I’d love to do a Recruit RP!
I’d like to write Owen, and am open to writing against a Max, Hannah, or an OC!
I write on discord, 21+ partner preferred. Long form high lit replies :)

The Disney Showman (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Nostalgia can be a powerful force. The Greatest Showman portrays P.T. Barnum as a dreamer who wanted to entertain people above all else. There is a very similar air to the general perception of Walt Disney. Both men were, of course, much more complicated than their public personas, but the parallels were too strong for the PattyCake guys to resist. Especially since both Tony and Layne had worked at Disney World, performed on Disney cruises, and collaborated on projects with the company at large. So combining the Showman music with a visual retrospective of Walt's life was a perfect fit.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — The Disney Showman
performers: D.J. Muto, Paul Kaleka, & James Keaton (Walt Disney); Eli Jacobson (Roy Disney / featured vocals); Jonathan Timpanelli & Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (Robert & Richard Sherman); Olivia Adkins (Snow White model); Amy Garton (Julie Andrews); Isabella Muto (Shirley Temple); Jacob McAlister, David Kotary, James Berkley, Domenic Servidio, Chadd Winston, & Eduardo Marques de Oliveria (animators); Alexander Browne (animator / Mouseketeer); Rachel Copeland Evans, Gizelle Pagan, & Darlene Chudinski Henry (Mouseketeers); Brad Pettit (Mouseketeer / chimney sweep); Jason Tibbs, Michael Rundy, Matt Hudson (chimney sweeps); Lauriel Marques de Oliveria, Grace Flaherty, & Sonia Roman (inkers & painters); Hannah Laird, Tony Wakim, Layne Stein, & Lilly Kolb (featured vocals)
original songs / performers: "Rewrite the Stars", "A Million Dreams", & "Come Alive" by the cast of The Greatest Showman (2017); "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" by James Baskett in Song of the South (1946); "I Got No Strings" by Dickie Jones in Pinocchio (1940); "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" by Bobby Driscoll, the cast of Peter Pan (1953), & The Jud Conlon Chorus; "Mickey Mouse Club March" by the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club (1955)
written by: "Rewrite the Stars", "A Million Dreams", & "Come Alive" by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul; "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" by Allie Wrubel & Ray Gilbert; "I Got No Strings" by Leigh Harline & Ned Washington; "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" by Sammy Cahn & Sammy Fain; "Mickey Mouse Club March" by Jimmie Dodd
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 2 March 2018
My favorite bits:
combining the Disney fanfare with instrumentation from "Rewrite the Stars"
young Walt sketching Oswald the rabbit, followed by adult Walt creating Mortimer Mickey Mouse
the newspaper headline noting that Disney's first studio failed at the start of "Come Alive"
those extremely perky Mouseketeers
Tony and Layne doing their best faux-Cockney accents for the chimney sweeps' vocals
showing footage from the actual parks
elder Walt coughing as he walks away, a somber sign of the lung cancer that took his life
returning to young Walt still dreaming of ♫ "the world I'm gonna make" ♫ that we've just seen
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
The actors playing young Walt Disney and Shirley Temple are siblings.
James is yet another of Tony's fellow alumni from the "Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue" show at Universal Studios, having played BJ himself for many years.
The subtle special effects makeup that transformed James into Walt was created by Andy Wright at Makeup and Creative Arts, and was applied by Rick Underwood.
This video was filmed on location at the MBS Equipment Company warehouse space in Orlando, using some of their lighting equipment. There is also additional footage from both Disneyland and Disney World.
PattyCake garnered some praise from several of their fellow former theme park cast members in the YouTube comments for both the accuracy of the behind-the-scenes imagery and the celebration of the Disney legacy.
As they did with their "La La Land" video, PattyCake highlighted their attention to detail with a series of "Double Take" posts on social media, comparing shots from the video with the iconic moments they had recreated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a bonus, the thumbnail for the video itself is a recreation of a photo of Disney that was also used as the cover art for PBS's episode of American Experience about him.

bcs they're interesting: Lee Yeon (Tale of the Nine Tailed), Din Djarin (The Mandalorian), Cortana (Halo, the tv series)
bcs they're cute: Sarah Winchester (Wong & Winchester), Oh Il-Yong & Lee Jong-ah (both from Missing: The Other side)
bcs they're attractive: Olek (1899), Mason Pollard (Eraser: Reborn)
bcs they're my type: Hoyt Rawlins (Walker: Independence), Arman Morales (The Cleaning Lady), Jack 'Hacksaw' Smythe (Professionals)
bcs I feel they're the same as me (esp style/character/demeanor): Hong Ji-a (Sell Your Haunted House), Yang Joo-eun (Vincenzo), Hannah Copeland (The Recruit)
bcs I can (and have no space in the others, damn it): Dani Rojas & Clara Garcia (FC6), John Seed (FC5)
a minute of silence for the favorites that were cut out for space, the ones that definitely slipped my mind at the moment but are absolutely legendary and deserve to be mentioned.

OneWeekAlbum - Best of 2024
The Smile, Wall Of Eyes
Any Other, stillness, stop: you have a right to remember
Helado Negro, Phasor
BLUAI, Save it for later
Elbow, Audio Vertigo
Adrianne Lenker, Bright Future
Angus & Julia Stone, Cape Forestier
Billie Eilish, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
Arooj Aftab, Night Reign
King Hannah, Big Swimmers
Caoilfhionn Rose, Constellation
Leif Vollebeck, Revelation
Aurora, What Happened To The Heart?
Cesare Cremonini, ALASKA BABY
Wild Pink, Dulling the Horns
Beverly Glenn-Copeland, The Ones Ahead (BONUS, uscito nel 2023)

dodie: Tiny Desk Concert Robin Hilton | January 10, 2023 On many levels, this breathtaking Tiny Desk from dodie felt like the ultimate cathartic release. The English singer and her band arrived after more than a year and a half of planning and COVID-related delays; and, this was the final performance we had behind the desk in 2022, capping our long-awaited return to the building after more than two years of pandemic disruption. A lot of us who were lucky enough to see it in person were pretty teary-eyed by the end. But it was also a release because the music and the way dodie and her band pulled it off were both so magical. Bassist Jillian McKenna is a dodie fan from Canada who joined the band just for this performance after answering a callout on Instagram. The three backup singers are friends who flew in from Los Angeles; the string section was a mix of dodie’s touring band and DC-based artists and fans of Orla Gartland can see her move from piano to guitar and floor tom during the set. dodie herself, who played everything from piano and clarinet to ukulele, and the rest of the band flew in from England solely for the Tiny Desk, arriving on Saturday and flying back Monday not long after playing. Together, they filled the NPR Music office with songs that radiated with love and life, perfectly recreating the playful, kaleidoscopic spirit of dodie’s 2021 debut album Build a Problem and last year’s Hot Mess EP. Strikingly melodic, whimsical and wistful, dodie’s deep reflections on trauma, letting go and moving on were the perfect close to a year when it felt like we could finally exhale and come together again in song. SET LIST “Hot Mess” “Special Girl” “When” “Lonely Bones” MUSICIANS dodie: vocals, piano, clarinet, ukulele, guitar Orla Gartland: piano, guitar, floor tom, vocals Ross Craib: drums Jillian McKenna: bass, vocals Nick Monopoli: viola Katt Newlon: cello Elena Abad: violin Nataly Merezhuk: second violin Jules Brave: backing vocals Gaba: backing vocals Anthony Gargiula: backing vocals TINY DESK TEAM Producers: Robin Hilton, Bob Boilen Director: Maia Stern Audio Engineer: Josh Rogosin Series Producer: Bobby Carter Videographers: Maia Stern, Kara Frame, Pierre Kattar, Sofia Seidel Audio Assistant: Hannah Copeland Production Assistant: Jill Britton Tiny Desk Team: Suraya Mohamed, Marissa Lorusso, Hazel Cills, Ashley Pointer, Teresa Xie, Joshua Bryant VP, Visuals and Music: Keith Jenkins Senior VP, Programming: Anya Grundmann #dodie #tinydesk #nprmusic 0:00 Hot Mess 3:12 Special Girl 6:52 When 12:00 Lonely Bones via YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG3XDu8aAf8

Cinderswift (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
When the PattyCake fellas set out to retell the classic rags-to-riches fairy tale of Cinderella, they turned to the music of Taylor Swift. Her songs' themes of overcoming detractors and self-doubt, learning from painful situations, and striving for a better life were a perfect fit for the story's narrative.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals – Cinderswift
performers: Leah Lowman (Cinderella); Matthew "Bucky" Buckner (Prince Charming / additional vocals); Andrea Stack (Lady Tremaine / additional vocals); Olivia Adkins (Anastasia Tremaine); Melanie Stringer (Drizella Tremaine); Rachel Copeland (fairy godmother); Michael Navarro (royal crier / coachman); Hannah Laird, Hannah Juliano, Layne Stein, & Tony Wakim (additional vocals)
original songs / performer: all songs by Taylor Swift — "Mean"; [0:32] "Style"; [0:55] "Shake It Off"; [1:30] "Bad Blood", feat. Kendrick Lamar; [1:50] "22"; [2:47] "Wildest Dreams"; [3:40] "I Knew You Were Trouble"; [3:55] "Love Story"
written by: "Mean" by Taylor Swift; "Style" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, Karl "Shellback" Schuster, & Ali Payami; "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, & Karl "Shellback" Schuster; "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, Karl "Shellback" Schuster, & Kendrick Lamar; "22" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, & Karl "Shellback" Schuster; "Wildest Dreams" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, & Karl "Shellback" Schuster; "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, & Karl "Shellback" Schuster; "Love Story" by Taylor Swift
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 14 January 2017
My favorite bits:
Leah singing ♫ "You can take me do-o-own" ♫ on a descending run as she crouches to reach the tea set
Andrea's absolute poise and stillness as Lady Tremaine
the tiny mouse chorus 🐁 (Ah, so those are the additional vocals.)
all the ladies' 90s-tastic ballgowns
those crunchy minor chords during "Bad Blood"
Rachel's bouncy, trilling vibratto throughout "22"
combining the 1950 animated dance sequence with some of the Regency-era steps from Taylor's "Love Story" video during "Wildest Dreams"
transforming "I Knew You Were Trouble" from a rueful reflection into a sinister threat
Bucky and Leah's lovely harmonies in the final song
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
The opening dedication "For Dori" refers to Layne's youngest daughter, Doris, who was about six months old at the time of this video's publication.
This video was filmed at the Luxemore Grande Estate in Winter Park, which is primarily used for weddings and other large events. The venue coordination was handled by Jaimz Dillman, who had played Sarah Sanderson in PattyCake's "Hocus Heathens" Halloween video, and has continued to feature in their projects.
Leah has reprised her role as Cinderella in several episodes of PattyCake's "Princess Academy" series, as well as their "Disney Girls Like You" video in 2019, and their original piece "If the Shoe Fits" in 2023.
According to Bucky, there were many outtakes during the dance sequence because "the boots were big on me and that dress was ginormous".
The guys had known Bucky for many years prior to casting him in this project. He'd played the Wolfman opposite Tony's Dracula in the "Beetlejuice Revue" show at Universal Studios, and joined 4:2:Five as their new baritone when Layne switched over to vocal percussion in 2004.
A fan combined the audio from this project with footage from the 1950 Disney animated film to create a fantastic fanvid.
Many of the songs in this video were also later included in PattyCake's villainous Halloween offering for the year, "Look What You Made Me Brew".
Layne and Tony had previously sung a portion of "Bad Blood" in VoicePlay's "Aca Top 10 — Summer Hits 2015" countdown.
"I Knew You Were Trouble" was the foundation for VoicePlay's 2013 "Trouble" mashup music video with Rachel Potter, which led to them competing on The Sing-Off.
The dancers in the original "Shake It Off" music video include several of their fellow reality show veterans from So You Think You Can Dance — Phillip "PacMan" Chbeeb (s.5), Du-Shaunt "Fik-Shun" Stegall (s.10 winner), Jonathan "Legacy" Perez (s.6), & Melissa Sandvig (s.5).

Reading This Week 2023 #5
Welcome to the second week of my school reading heavy life and the weirdness of formatting this when i have to read things for class in chunks instead of all at once
Started and Finished:
fe3h fic (all on ao3)-
The Short Side of Eternity by wanderlustt Vexing by DistractedSiren What Never Was by HTFNoelle Smiles That Reach the Eyes by Recipe The Moon Behind Clouds by printers_devil yours is my spring by northofkites Let Your Heart Hold Fast by wearwind Tanaras by wearwind Agabhainn by wearwind Architects of Heaven, chapters 1-8 (all currently published) by wearwind things we cannot recall losing, chapters 1-3 (all currently published) by wearwind The Signet of His Lords by queenlua Deer Among Cattle by queenlua
can you tell i had a long trip back to my dorm this past sunday? the majority of these are fics on the shorter side that i read on the plane and train ride, and then the last two i read early on in the week. really enjoyed Deer Among Cattle since I just met Judith in my playthrough
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #11 written by Mark Waid, illustrated by Dan Mora
this was my sunday morning read before i left home, and i am just so enjoying this comic even though i have not read the superman stories that it is apparently referencing and building on (according to my dad, who very happily explained what the Reveal was)
"Base and Superstructure in Marxist Cultural Theory" by Raymond Williams
school reading! this will reappear in the coming weeks as the class instructed me to read through it all together once, and then read it again in chunks taking note of specific parts. this was for my 19th c. pop culture class
"Women, marriage and the family" by Tanya Evans, from British Women 1700-1850 edited by Hannah Barker and Elaine Chalus
always enjoy some evidence based social history, this is for my Jane Austen class
Ongoing:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
the reread for class continues! i fucking love the first proposal scene and i read portions of it outloud to my boyfriend
The Cambridge Companion to Jane Austen edited by Edward Copeland and Juliet McMaster
read a section of this about what Economic and Social Class of people are represented in Jane Austen's works which was very enlightening
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, translated by Constance Garnett, narrated by Frederick Davidson
audiobook my beloved, i love reaching parts and quotes that ended up in The Great Comet bc i just become a pointing meme every time
Sam Patch, the famous Jumper by Paul E. Johnson
this dude is fucking legendary and also reading about him makes me sad because he does not seem to be having a good time
Started and Ongoing:
The Gentleman's Daughter by Amanda Vickery
more for my Jane Austen class, this one is about like landowning but untitled women in Austen's day and Wow the chapter on pregnancy and childbirth and motherhood was heartwrenching
Oathbreaker by quandry on ao3
another fe3h fic, this one is multichapter and i'm getting through it slower. unsure if i'll continue it or just abandon it to pursue other reading, but i think it's an interesting trait on a character changing sides/getting recruited post-timeskip
Beastars, Vol. 4 by Paru Itagaki, translated by Tomoko Kimura
i started reading the first chapter yesterday and then remember that there's another book that I want to be reading during my free time because I know my dad is waiting to talk about it with me so then i felt guilty and. stopped reading this? i will power through it once i have read at least one chapter of that other book

I love them I love them I love them I love them
The soft sweetness of the White cat lift
The beauty of Mistoffelees gently blowing away the spotlight and all the lights rolling back - so gorgeous in that theater I miss it. With Tugger watching from below absolutely entranced
I miss Sinisoffelees
That moment when they all leap to the front of the stage and just look so happy!
The Wives
Petra and Birgit purring
Giulia's sensual, feral, absolutely feline Demeter
George showing off his flexibility
Dominik I SAW those finger flutters Sir
Hannah Kenna Thomas just being Perfection as Victoria
Felix Martin being the Most Offended Cat ever at the Man over There. Aulerstrap cannot believe how dim the audience is. They just explained what Jellicle Cats are! Twice!! Obviously now we must all be as unnerving as possible while we talk about Names.
Alex Snova's Macavity staggering toward Munkustrap ready to finish him off.
(Ok that snippet of Mattstoffelees and his Munkustrap bf having a little consult 🥺)
Alex Snova's magical Bagpipes that play without the mouthpiece!
Dominik's complete inability to stop flirting with every single cat on stage for more than three seconds. Likewise just getting up in everybody's business during the Jellicle Ball. Walking up casually to check out the Girls before going back to gather the Guys.
Hannah's Perfectly Placed toes
AAHHH the Skimble + Mattbailey baps!
The GerbenSkimbleStare
The Jellicle Ball. That absolutely magical 11 minutes. Sitting up in your seat right after pop ups. Copeland. Princess Louise. WARSAW.
The Tugger/Rumpel/Mungo of Vienna
MATT when the train falls over 😂. (Matt Levick in general being just such a sunny and happy cat) @whitmerule Thank you for the time and energy spent in putting these beautiful compilations together ❤️❤️
Feline, fearless, faithful and true...
A little nostalgia for the Vienna revival production, which closed a year ago!
Credit for the footage goes to @cryptidvoidwritings and @falasta. Credit for the Willhelm scream at 0:40 goes to Dominik Hees.
I won't name all the actors since it's scraps from several different nights in the final week: 19th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th June 2022.
