Lebanese News & Updates: Telegram
Hezbollah: In the name of God, the destroyer of tyrants Initial statement on the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon "We will surely take revenge on the criminals." On the fortieth day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali, peace be upon them, the master of martyrs, the leader of the free, and the symbol of sacrifice, selflessness, and pride, and at dawn on this Sunday, August 25, 2024, and within the framework of the initial response to the brutal Zionist aggression on the southern suburb of Beirut, which led to the martyrdom of the great jihadist leader, Sayyed Fouad Shukr, may God have mercy on him, and a number of our honorable people, women and children, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance began an air attack with a large number of drones towards the Zionist depth and towards a qualitative Israeli military target that will be announced later ...and in conjunction with the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance targeting a number of enemy sites and barracks and Iron Dome platforms in northern occupied Palestine with a large number of missiles. These military operations will take some time to complete, and after that a detailed statement will be issued about their course and objectives, God willing. The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon is now and at this moment at its highest level of readiness and will stand strong and vigilant against any Zionist transgression, especially if civilians are harmed, as the punishment will be very severe and harsh. Victory comes only from God, the Almighty, the Wise.
Hezbollah issues a statement stating that the phase 1 of the attack is completed. This phase included engaging the israeli army with more than 320 rockets, to make way for the drones that successfully impacted their targets. They attacked the following: 1- Miron base 2- Navi Ziv's base 3- Zaatoun base 4- Al-Zaoura barracks 5- Al-Sahel base 6- Kilaa barracks 7- UF barracks 8- Nafah base 9- Yarden base 10 - Ein Zitim base 11- Ramot Naftali Barracks
As Hezbollah is attacking, there are countless israeli attacks ongoing against launch sites, in addition to heavy artillery on villages and drone strikes as far Al-Qasmieh area.
Israeli airstrikes in the outskirts of Hares. These 24-72 hours will be the most intense, and will be a test for both side's ability and reliance. Deterrence will be created or shattered.
An israeli targeted assassination is reported in Khiyam village
A U.S. military Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton UAV arrived near Lebanon to support the israel army's intelligence gathering.
Resistance News Network: Telegram
A number of casualties are reported among settlers in "Ramot Naftali," northeast occupied Palestine. Journalist Ali Haidar, specialist in "israeli" affairs at Al-Akhbar: "The promotion by "israeli" media of a preemptive strike aims to cover up its failure to thwart Hezbollah's initial (initial) response. Therefore, this was followed by reports claiming that Hezbollah intended to launch 1,000 rockets and target "Tel Aviv," in order to imply that Hezbollah's actions were less than what it originally intended."

The War on Education—in Gaza and at Home
The Right is using Palestine to further its assault on higher ed and recruit centrists to its cause.
On January 17, after having first occupied it as a military base and interrogation center, the Israeli army employed scores of landmines to blow up Israa University, the last institution of higher learning then left standing in Gaza. While the terms “scholasticide,” “educide” and “epistemicide” have long been used to describe the assault on Palestinian intellectual life and infrastructure, they have become grimly literal as Israel’s war on Gaza effects what journalist Eman Alhaj Ali calls the erasure of Gaza’s education system. The logic of elimination undergirding Israel’s effort to make Gaza uninhabitable has included the demolition of academic buildings, the lethal targeting of its scholars and intellectuals — from the poet and literature professor Refaat Alareer to the rector of the Islamic University and scientist Sufyan Tayeh — as well as the slaughter of countless students. Genocide, to borrow from literary scholar and Al-Aqsa professor Haidar Eid, has gone hand-in-hand with sociocide and ideocide. Any discussion of the latest phase in the United States’ so-called “campus wars” must start from here, and not just to check the language we use to talk about conflict. Ever since the 1960s, intense fights over political speech, protest and curricula have periodically roiled U.S. universities. But the current war against Palestinian life and culture, which many young people correctly perceive as an Israeli-American war, has marked a new phase in these ideological and discursive conflicts, one whose violence has not just been metaphorical — recall the shooting of three Palestinian students near the University of Vermont in late November. Over the last four months, as Israel has ratcheted up its long-term attacks on Palestinian intellectual life, pro-Israel political actors in the United States have tied the silencing of Palestinian solidarity to ongoing campaigns against critical and progressive agendas in education. In so doing, they are also bringing together the political center and far Right in ways that trouble the narrative of a coming battle between a broad liberal front and a proto-fascist Trumpism.

The Jewish Bollywood Star: Esther Abraham
She was India's first female film producer
Esther Abraham was a Jewish Bollywood superstar and the first female film producer in India. She was a proud observant Jew even while shaping modern Indian culture.
Esther was born in Calcutta in 1916 to an Orthodox Jewish family. The Abrahams were Baghdadi Jews who had emigrated from Iraq in the 19th century. In school Esther excelled academically and athletically. She was a talented hockey player with a roomful of trophies. Esther was also an artist who attended Cambridge University after high school and majored in art.
After university, Esther became a kindergarten teacher at a Jewish school in Calcutta, but she yearned to be a performer. Her first job in the entertainment industry was as a dancer for a silent movie theater. Esther’s job was to entertain the audience during a pause in the film while the reel were changed.
Many members of Esther’s family were talented musicians and performers. She went to visit an actress cousin in Bombay who was appearing in a theater production. The director noticed tall, beautiful Esther and gave her a screen test.
Esther did so well on the test that she soon appeared in her first movie, Bhikaran, in 1936. Around this time she was given the screen name Pramila. Audiences fell in love with Pramila and she quickly became one of the most famous actresses in India. She also worked as a model and appeared on many magazine covers. In 1947, at age 31, Esther won the first Miss India contest – while pregnant with her fifth child.
At that time in India, the movie industry was controlled by a handful of extremely wealthy producers who exploited their actors and crew members and paid them only a measly salary. Esther Abraham decided to change that. She defied the studio system by becoming the first female producer of Bollywood feature films. Esther formed her own production company, Silver Productions, and produced sixteen feature films. She treated her cast and crew with respect and paid them well.
Esther starred in 30 films. In addition to being an actress and producer, she did her own stunts and worked as a stunt double for other performers. Esther also designed her own costumes and jewelry for every production.
Famous for her enchantingly beautiful eyes, audiences didn’t know that her eyesight was very poor and she did dance moves by counting the steps. Audiences also were likely unaware that she was Jewish – and probably wouldn’t have cared. Unlike so many countries with Jewish communities, India has no history of antisemitism.
Esther’s daughter Naqi Jahan was crowned Miss India in 1967, and they are the only mother and daughter who both won the title. Her son Haidar Ali is a successful Indian actor and screenwriter. Haidar described his mother: “A woman who was gifted by God with internal power and strength… she magnetized power…. One the home front she kept us together [clenching his fist] like this.”
Esther Abraham appeared in her last film in 2005, at age 90, playing a grandmother in the movie Thaang. She died a few months after its release. Until the end of her long life, Esther remained a practicing Jew. Her funeral was at the Maghen David synagogue, and her son Maurice read Psalms in Hebrew. Esther was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Mumbai.
For entertaining audiences for seventy years, and for being the first female film producer in India, we honor Esther Abraham, aka Pramila, as this week’s Thursday Hero.

Anglo-Mysore Wars
The Four Anglo-Mysore Wars (1767-1799) were fought between the British East India Company (EIC) and the state of Mysore. Haidar Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, the "Tiger of Mysore", were relentless foes to British expansion in southern India but were eventually subdued by the triple alliance of the EIC, the Maratha Confederacy, and the Nizam of Hyderabad.
The four Anglo-Mysore wars were spread over four decades of battles, sieges, and ruthless psychological warfare:

My Favourite Naat (Or at least one of them)
In the name of God, The most gracious, the most merciful.
Establish prayer, pay your zakat, and bow down with those who bow down. - Quran, 2:43
Peace and blessings upon everyone!
I hope life's treating you well. I’m Esmeray and I welcome you to this post on my blog Dear Esmeray.
Today I'll be sharing with you my favorite naat. This is the very first one that I learned when I was 7 or 8 years old, I loved it instantly, Still do.
The naat is in my mother tongue, Urdu, hence I'll provide English translation after every stanza.
Here we go, I hope you like it as much as I do.
Zikr-e-Khuda me har dam rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi Khwahish-e-nafs se bachte rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To be ever-immersed in remembrance of the Lord Is not something of everyone's capability. To stay protected from the soul's desires Is not something of everyone's capability.
Deen ke khatir ghar-ghar jana Taif jakar pathar khana Phir bi Duaen dete rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To go door-to-door for the true religion's sake To be pelted with stones at Taif, And to still keep praying for the stone pelters Is not something of everyone's capability.
[Taif is the place where stones were hurled at the holy Prophet, Peace be upon him.]
Ashab-e-Nabi toh sab ke sab Makhlooq me sab se afzal hai, Siddiq ke jaisa ashiq hona Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
Each of the prophet's companions Are indeed the best of creation, [But] to be an admirer like [Abu bakr] Siddiq Is not something of everyone's capability.
Ungli se ishara chand ke janib Saare insaan karte hain Ungli se chand ke tukde karna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
Pointing towards the moon with a finger Is something all people do [But] To split the moon with a [pointing of the] finger Is not something of everyone's capability.
Duniya talashi duniya bhar mein Gasht lagate phirte hain Farooq ke jaisa Gasht lagana Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
The world's patrollers, in the whole world, Roam about patrolling. [But] to patrol like Umar Farooq Is not something of everyone's capability.
Usman-e-ghani ka hamsar hona Maal me beshak mumkin hai Zin-nurain ka rutba paana Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To be the equal of Usman-e-ghani In terms of wealth, is indeed possible [But] To earn the title of Zin-Nurain (Possessor of two lights) Is not something of everyone's capability.
Islam ka jhanda haath mein lekar Haidar aage badhte hain Khaibar pe qabza kar lena Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
With the standard of Islam in his hands Haidar [Ali R.A] marches forward To seize hold of Khaibar [Like Ali] Is not something of everyone's capability.
Ashaab-e-paiyambar Deen ke upar Jaanein qurbaan karte hein Deen ke upar, jaan ka dena Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
All of the prophets's companions, for the sake of Islam Are ever inclined to sacrifice their lives, To sacrifice oneself for the sake of religion Is not something of everyone's capability.
Maarikaa-e-haqq-o-batil to Chalta hi rahega aakhir tak Haqq ki himayat karte rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
This war of truth and falsehood Is an incessant everlasting affair [But] to remain an advocate for the truth Is not something of everyone's capability.
Dushman se badla lene ka Har ek ke dil me jazba hai Dushman ko gale se apne lagana Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To get even with the enemy Is a fervent desire in everyone's heart [But] To embrace to one's chest the enemy Is not something of everyone's capability.
Ishq-e-nabi ka da'wa toh Asaan bahot hai, Farman-e-nabi par a'mil hona Sab ke bas ki baat nahi
To claim love for the Prophet Is an effortless endeavor indeed, [But] To act in effect the Prophet's orders Is not something of everyone's capability.
Kufr ki aisi zulmat me imaan ka bachana hai mushkil Muslim bankar Hind me rehna Sab ke bas ki baat nahi.
In these conditions of oppression by disbelievers Protection of faith is challenging To remain standing firm as a Muslim in Hind [India], Is not something of everyone's capability.
That was the naat, it holds a special place in my heart for several reasons, and I can only hope you liked it as much as I did.
With Love, Esmeray ♡

Art Exhibition review: Eid Exhibition
This is a report about the charity Eid exhibition (the art of giving 3) that was opened on the 15th of April at the Safeya Ali Kanoo hub. It is sponsored by the Bahrain Trust Foundation, a charity foundation. All artworks presented were for sale and 50% of each sale is donated through the Bahrain trust foundation. The exhibition is a collaboration between many artists, as it displayed the works of 21 artists in total. Most of these artists were Bahraini, but Saudi and Iraqi Artists were present too.
Personally, this exhibition was an introduction to many new names in the local art scene, as I was unfamiliar with most artists that participated in this event. One that grasped my attention was Mahmood Haidar, who had 3 works on display. scenes of Bahraini life that could go back to the 70’s or 80’s of the past millennium, painted with water color on paper. These figures are the focal point, one is of a man harvesting dates from a palm tree, another is of a man transporting produce and the last is of a man riding a bike. All with little to no background, which allows focus on the actions bringing up a feeling of nostalgia, and perhaps melancholic.
Another Artist the gallery introduced me too was Fatima Hassan, who has a very unique style might I add. She uses Oil paint and -I assume- some kind of varnish or thinner to recreate the flow and texture of watercolor on canvas. She had 2 paintings displayed, one of a ship on shore and the other of a horse, both with lots of variety and contrast between different textures that balances out the fact she used only one shade of color.
One Artist that made excellent use of a colorful pallet is Hasan Alhader. Perfectly placed impressionistic strokes of the brush, a slightly exaggerated pallet, All reminiscent of early impressionists like Monte. The scenes of the old Bahraini Markets are supported with this style and the contrast in tones as well in between the lively yet cool blue and the saturated brown, All together presenting an oil on canvas painting that looks like an old blurry photograph in the best ways possible.
Alhader wasn’t the only one presenting traditional market scenes in his work, Ebrahim Alghanem, one of the Artists I’m familiar with, also displayed traditional Bahraini markets but ones of the modern day. The work is of watercolor on paper and it is truly the work of a master, high on detail that serves the story telling of the image like the names of the shops. High variety and contrast in texture and tones with a realistic color pallet. Images that are brought to life by a wonderful artist.
Elyas Rasti, an oil painter, is one more name I know prior to the exhibition. He Had 2 Paintings on was of a . However, I very much gravitated towards the Sufi whirler with the tanoura. The dynamics of the image is brought by the mid-movement capture, the clashing textures of the dancer’s clothing and the cloudy background, the way the tanoura itself is captured with the action lines created by the dry brushing technique, all come together to center the whirler.
