Observations: I'd say that, as a rule, I'm a sucker for a one-liner haha! But honestly, I tend to not overthink my first lines that much. They're a means to an end for me, just to get something on the page and get into the story. First lines can be really fun though - they definitely set the mood and honestly it can just take a single word to make them stand out, yknow? Like here, I think that the one for 'a god, a devil' is possibly the strongest. Just the 'a spectre' is really nice, I think. The rest are just like, eh, they exist hahah. They tend to either be establishing lines or setting the emotional tone. I do try and get some character voice in there though, sometimes - I guess it depends on the fic!

I wanted to talk more about the social media thing, which it sounds like you have a lot to talk about too! I didn't follow Dom when he was at Leipzig but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the spotlight and reaction to him on social media was not as big as it now but I know he's like the king of Hungary (in a good way) anyway I say that because when it comes to the prem the fans and media are a lot less forgiving and love to put players in a box.

For instance Dom is very handsome (as are a lot players in Liverpool) but he's gotten labeled as the pretty boy who cares more about his hair than he does about his performances which is silly because every player cares about their outward appearance that's why they get haircuts and tattoos and etc. It's kind of similar with people screaming from the rooftops that Trent can't defend if he makes one missed tackle.

Anyway I think if Dom was less attractive or less confident people would stop raging about him loving the camera, if anything it's just a reaction to how good he looks on camera. Personally I already know he has a nice face and I still get caught off guard when he pops up on the TV, bless the dinosaurs that made the fuel to bring his parents together 🤣

Apologies for the late answer! I started writing a whole ass novell to you, then lost internet connection and I lost everything. But maybe it's for the better, because I was borderline psychoanalysing people lol. 😭

I admit, I couldn't really stomach following RB Leipzig just for him lol, I only started paying more attention to them (well Domi, and they came with him) after Marco Rose became their manager - I really like that man - so, I don't know tbh how he was perceived by their fans or even in the media really. What's evident is that he was a favourite of the social media team, judging by their insta haha. In Hungary, it's very hit or miss. He is either perceived as basically the Chosen One from the Footy Gods, or very harshly, unfairly criticised hated on for everything. There are a surprising amount of miserable people who are hoping that he will flop hard as a rock in Liverpool, but then again, he is still much more beloved, especially ever since he became the captain. Our sports media, hmm, let's just say, very amateur, and because Dominik is our most successful player he gets his ass kissed ever since he signed for Liverpool. The thing is with that however, is that they try to frame it more like a Hungarian success story, rather than the success story of Dominik, if that makes sense. So it's not really about the persona of Dominik, but rather the Hungarian who did something that not many could in the last few decades. Or at least that's how I see it overall.

However, all this vain, egoistical gimmick is not something that has been present in his usual criticism until recently. I mean it makes sense, the media needs characters, easily noticeable one or two traits they can give to players to sell the stories and the narrative better, and let's be honest, Dominik is a very easy target for that. For one, yes, that he is objectively a handsome man, but what I think is even more important is the way he carries himself. I think he is not someone, who will 'bow down' if that makes sense, he has a strong personality, a strong trust and sense of himself and his abilities, and he is very honest about that. The media loves underdog stories, especially for people like Dominik, but it's very evident that he doesn't lean into that. Even in Hungary, he asked the journalists multiple times, to stop listening to all his achievements, calling him the nt's best player, trying to sell the story of the 'poor hungarian lad who somehow did the unthinkable'. He seemed pretty rejective towards these underdog PR questions they tried to do with him in the start, which honestly from a straight PR point turned out to be a mistake for him, for sure hahah. But I can respect the dedication to be true to his morals and character, rather than playing the well-crafted PR character.

This turned out into me, rumbling I'm so sorry. I truly can talk a lot. 😭😭 Please, don't be shy to do the same, I absolutely love reading all your options!! 💗

Yeah this is a tangent but for clarification: when I say they don't like it — they don't like it in a "It's our hometown so we respect it, but thank god we made it out" kind of way. (though Liverpool now is very different than Liverpool in the '60s)

They don't go there on tour often. Also, Ringo was asked "what do you miss about Liverpool?" in an interview once and he said "nothing." Some people were very mad about it💀

HAHAH okay i may not know the complexities of their feeling, but i think i get the general sentiment about it

A: i feel like visiting my grandma's birthplace in italy had this like magical feeling - almost haunting how empty it was. lake garda was also very stunning but i was so tired i felt like i couldn't fully appreciate it.

Liverpool - 4 Nov 2022

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go on a daytrip to Liverpool! Of course, I went to all the important Queen-related places. These photos have been sitting for a while but now I have time to sort through them!

The first stop is Liverpool Empire Theatre, which is a short walk from Liverpool Lime Street station where I got off from.

This venue was where Queen played Bohemian Rhapsody live for the first time ever! Although I was told the place isn't what it used to be anymore, I think it still holds a significant historical value. I was a bit disappointed about that scaffolding but whatever haha.

This is the Queen Insurance Buildings on Dale Street. Although there isn't any real evidence, some thought that this particular design at the top of the building inspired Queen's crest logo (and maybe even the name itself?). I can see why, but again it's just a story that goes around. Still nice to come and see it myself!

Next up is the Cavern Club on Matthew Street. This was one of the venues Queen once played in, and it has its own Wall of Fame with Queen on it! (Although this place is more popular with The Beatles, and that applies to the entire street around this area. Well - the whole city, honestly lol).

This place on Hardman Street used to be The Magnet, which was already closed. Before that, it was The Sink Club where Ibex once performed. Not only did they perform, but that was the infamous gig recorded where allegedly Brian and Roger joined Freddie on stage right just as the tape ran out. From Livertours Liverpool:

Ibex performed on 9th September 1969 at The Sink on Hardman Street, which later became the Magnet, another one of Liverpool’s great historic music venues. The gig had been recorded by Geoff on a reel-to-reel tape machine which later sold to a Queen collector.

Unfortunately, the tape ran out after 30 minutes, and missed the band’s encore which allegedly featured guest appearances from Roger Taylor and Brian May. This was the first time that the three soon-to-become members of Queen played together, and it took place in Liverpool!

If it's true, then it's a very historical place indeed!

It wasn't that late but we ran out of daylight when we got to Dovedale Towers, where apparently Freddie used to live for a short time. From Liverpool Echo:

While living in the city, Freddie found a temporary home in the flat above Penny Lane's famous Dovedale Towers. At the time, the tavern was run by the parents of Ibex roadie Geoff Higgins who offered the apartment to Freddie while he stayed in the North.

Apparently the place is famous in Beatles history but I honestly wouldn't know, lol. But speaking of The Beatles...

Of course I couldn't go to Liverpool without visiting this! Luckily it was a lovely weather - during the day, at least lmao. Rain and wind all the way through the evening but I had a really enjoyable time!

I'd love to visit again, there are still a few spots I'm missing. One of them is the British Music Experience where they have lots of memorabilia on display including from Queen - most notably Brian's John Birch guitar that was smashed in New Jersey 1982 lol (then repaired in 2004).

I’m hoping I get out of the rut I’ve hit with campervan au soon, but said rut is definitely making me more distractable. Trestle was going very well until I realised that it was much bigger than I anticipated (I was at almost 40k and realised I wasn’t even halfway through rip) and then hit a rut with that too, and now my brain isn’t letting me write rip. So I’m just taking a break now, and hopefully I’ll get back on the wagon sooooon.
