Something so hot about Zeus and Hera being the prime example of an imperfect marriage and is shown to have many issues and yet both have no problem obliterating any couple who dares to compare their marriage to theirs or calls their spouse their names or that they loved each other more than the King of the Gods loves His Queen, Goddess of Marriage

It's about hot and cold, but it's also like Green and Pleasant Vacation Europe and The Forest Primeval. IIRC Voldemort is supposed to have fled in exile to Albania, of all places. Imagine him licking his wounds in a Hoxhaist bunker. You can't just make up a Ruritania any more, because of woke.
we need a Green and Pleasant European equivalent to ruritania—a place to put harry potter's beauxbatons, &c. if there already isn't a better term out there, i humbly propose clochemerle—a fictional french village that serves as the main setting of gabriel chevallier's novel of the same name, today used as a byword for "petty, parochial squabbling" in colloquial french
I still remember being vaguely surprised to realize places like Croatia, Bulgaria, and Albania had, well, Mediterranean climates, that they were *sunny*, despite the Balkans being literally across a very narrow sea from Sunny Italy.
to be fair, most of the balkan peninsula actually is colder than just about any part of italy. this goes especially for inland parts of former yugoslavia, which are closer in climatic type to poland or the baltics (or, like, new england) than to latitudinally equivalent tuscany or padania (no excuse for thinking albania or bulgaria could be anything but Sunny, though). where walks the wind, snow follows...
i've come across two completely separate pieces of anglophone media—vampire: the masquerade and harry potter—that seem incapable of distinguishing wendish from norse europe. for the former, clanbook: tzimisce appears to had been written by someone who believes transylvania, belarus and sweden are all within walking distance of one another; for the latter, durmstrang is a wizarding school founded and staffed by bulgarians, and located in the far north of scandinavia
what's up with that? and don't tell me it's because of the varangians—i truly don't believe j.k. rowling (or any of the people behind v:tm) are aware russia was founded by norsemen. the only conclusion that seems reasonable to me is that, at least for some anglos, europe is split not into romance, germanic and slavic europe, but into cold europe (covering both northern and eastern europe) and warm europe (covering both western and southern europe, and maybe greece). which, well. is certainly one way to divide the continent

What is one of her myths?
The Myth of the Lily of the Valley
It is said that a beautiful princess named Calvalia from a lost kingdom in the east (once known as Atlantis) drank a tonic of this poisonous flower to escape an arranged marriage. Moved by the lengths she went to find escape, the West Wind Zephyrus resurrected her as one of his kin and brought her with him to Mt. Haemus. It is believed that where her tears fall, a lily of the valley sprouts in its place. Thus, the delicate white blooms began to thrive in the lands of Ancient Greece.
These flowers would catch the attention of the God Apollo, who was intrigued by their unique appearance and medicinal qualities. Following a trail of them led him to the weeping anemoi, whom he comforted with a song. They formed a bond as they sang together, and having won her trust and affection, she pledged her loyalty to serve him on Mt. Olympus. His fondness for her flowers, the lily of the valley, would also earn it the name “Apollinaris.”
*some versions of the myth claim that Apollo took Calvalia from Mt. Haemus to spite Zephyrus, who had caused the death of his lover Hyacinthus.

Some Fun Facts about the Aphrodite and Hephaestus Divorce
Everyone knows the story, Hephaestus and Aphrodite get married, in most tellings more or less against her will, Aphrodite cheats with the man who already gave her one of her kids and gives her 3 more, Hephaestus finds out, Golden Net, Ares (or Poseidon) pays back the dowry, and the two get divorced with bitter feelings for all involved. But one thing I did find curious is that where Hephaestus was raised after getting baby yetted by Zeus and/or Hera was a place called Limnos which is a sacred placed to Hephaestus. Aphrodite also, in a time which is implied after the divorce, stops getting worshippers and tribute, which is also implied because Hephaestus worshippers aren't going to worship the Goddess who broke their poor smith god's heart, so as a method of punishing them and getting back at Hephaestus for both the marriage and the net, she then curses the women to have bad body odor making the men not want to have sex with them*. The men, unwilling to let a little thing like bad body odor, like actual champions, decide to conveniently go to Thrake, a homeland that is sacred to Ares and is where he goes to his metal palace** whenever he's sick of the Olympians' shit***, to kidnap the woman as sex slaves which is implied as retribution to Ares for making Aphrodite break the poor smith god's heart (as if Hephaestus didn't force Aphrodite to break Ares's heart first). The women then in response decide to take a page out of Ares's playbook by getting revenge on the men for neglecting them by violently murdering them and making it so that only women reside on Limnos (which is implied to be motivated by either Aphrodite and/or Ares) until Jason and the Argonauts came to *fix* that problem. Which in turns makes me think that the whole Limnos situation was a cycle of revenge situation involving all 3 Gods.
*Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 1. 114 (trans. Aldrich) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) : "Lemnos happened to have no males at the time [when the Argonauts visited the island], and was ruled by Hypsipyle, the daughter of Thoas. The reason for this was that the women of Lemnos had failed to give due honour to Aphrodite, in return for which she afflicted them with a foul odour. Whereupon their husbands took to bed women whom they captured from neighbouring Thrake. For this dishonourable treatment the Lemnian women slew their fathers and husbands."
**Statius, Thebaid 7. 64 ff (trans. Mozley) (Roman epic C1st A.D.) : "Barren forest [of Thrake], the sacred haunts of Mars [Ares] . . . where on the far slopes of Haemus his savage mansion is ringed by a thousand furies. The walls are of iron structure, iron portals bear upon the threshold, the roof is carried by columns wrought of iron. The rays of Phoebus [Helios the Sun] are weakened when they meet it, the very light fears that dwelling, and its murky glare dismays the stars. Fit sentinels hold watch there: from the outer gate wild Impetus (Passion) leaps, and blind Nefas (Mischief) and Irae (Angers) flushing red and pallid Metus (Fear) [Phobos], and Insidia (Treachery) lurks with hidden sword, and Discordia (Discord) [Eris] holding a two-edged blade. Minis (Threats) innumerable make clamour in the court, sullen Virtus (Valour) stands in the midst, and Furor (Rage) exultant and armed Mors (Death) [Thanatos] with blood-stained visage are seated there; no blood but that of wars is on the altars, no fire but snatched from burning cities. All around were spoils of every land, and captured peoples adorned the temple's high front, and fragments of iron-wrought gates and ships of war and empty chariots and faces ground by chariot-wheels, ay, almost even their groans! truly every form of violence and wounds. Himself [Mars-Ares] was everywhere to behold, but nowhere with softened looks; in such wise had Mulciber [Hephaistos] with divine skill portrayed him: not yet had the adulterer, made manifest by the sun's bright beams, atoned his shameful union in the bed's grasping chains [in which he was caught with Aphrodite] . . . Lo! Earth trembles, and horned [river] Hebrus bellows and stays his torrent's flow; then all the war-steeds that troubled the valley sped foaming o'er the frightened meads, sure sign of his approach, and the gates barred with everlasting adamant flew open. Glorious in Hyrcanian gore he himself [Mars-Ares] comes riding by; far and wide the dire bespattering changes the aspect of the fields, behind him are borne spoils and weeping throngs; forests and deep snows give him room; with bloody hand dark Bellona [Enyo] guides the team and plies them hard with her long spear."
***that part was added my me but if you want to tell me that he doesn't go to his kick ass Thrake palace whenever he's sick of the Olympian's shit go ahead

Khione’s Family
Parents
Father: Boreas
“BOREAS was the purple-winged god of the north wind, one of the four seasonal Anemoi (Wind-Gods). He was also the god of winter who swept down from the cold mountains of Thrake (Thrace), chilling the air with his icy breath.” Source
Mother: Oreithyia
“OREITHYIA (Orithyia) was the mountain-nymph wife of Boreas the North-Wind who dwelt with her husband in a cave on Mount Haimos (Haemus) in Thrake. […] Oreithyia was probably the goddess of chill mountain winds for her name means ‘mountain-rager’" Source
Siblings
"While Orithyia was playing by the Ilissos river, Boreas carried her off and had intercourse with her; and she bore daughters, Kleopatra (Cleopatra) and Khione (Chione), and winged sons, Zetes and Kalais (Calais)." Source
Zetes and Kalais
“Zetes and Calais were the sons of Boreas, the North Wind, in Greek mythology. They were known as the Boreads, the winged sons of the wind, and were prominent figures in the story of Jason and the Argonauts, the legendary crew of heroes led by Jason on their quest for the Golden Fleece. Zetes and Calais were famous for their incredible speed and their ability to fly due to their wings, which they inherited from their father. Their wings were said to be as strong as those of birds, allowing them to soar through the air with great agility.” Source
Kleopatra
“Cleopatra, daughter of Boreas (North wind) and the Athenian princess, Oreithyia. She was the first wife of Phineus by whom he had a pair of sons” Source
Other children of Boreas include Butes and Haemus
Lovers
In the myths, Khione had one lover, Poseidon.
“Khione (Chione) had intercourse with Poseidon, and when she gave birth to Eumolpos (Eumolpus), without letting her father [Boreas] know, she threw the baby into the deep sea to avoid discovery.” Source
Children
Eumolpos
“Khione (Chione) had connexion with Poseidon, and having given birth to Eumolpos (Eumolpus) unknown to her father, in order not to be detected, she flung the child into the deep. But Poseidon picked him up and conveyed him to Aithiopia (Ethiopia), and gave him to Benthesikyme (Deep Wave), a daughter of his own by Amphitrite, to bring up.” Source

A snippet from the new AU (there’s a good chance I’m going to call it “The Iberian”). Warnings: Roman Empire being the Roman Empire. REAL WARNING: Spinoff characters appear.
Hispania Exterior, 138 BC, in the midst of the Third Celtiberian War
“Are we ready?” Brutus asked, his voice cutting through Andreas’ fancies.
Andreas squeezed the rest of the waterskin out. He smacked his lips, smearing away runaway water from his chin. The liquid dribbled, rolling down his armguard like a fresh drop of rain. It landed on the hilt by his waist, breadths away from scorched knuckles that had spent too long in the heat.
Brutus clawed at his scruff of a beard. “I want to see some action.”
Andreas chuckled. He tossed the waterskin to the boy behind him. Antsy, the youth took off, back in the direction of their camp. But Brutus did not budge, grip tight on his shield, and tighter on his staff.
“You’ll get your fair share of blood, my friend,” Andreas said, brushing the dust from his cape, “enjoy the air while it lasts.”
He clapped Brutus on the shoulder. Behind his Second, Andreas saw Roy clutching his spear, brow slick with sweat.
“You look like you’re about to throw up,” Andreas told him, “you’re not going to run off, are you?”
Roy shook his head. “Just nerves. I’ll be fine.”
“Good.” Andreas tilted his head. He grinned. “Or I’d have to drag you back and beat you. And well, I don’t think either of us would enjoy that.”
He raked his hand over Roy’s hair. Roy smiled, a rare phenomena Andreas had coaxed out.
Brutus snorted. “Nothing to worry about. What are a bunch of barbarians going to do to us? Eh, Andreas?”
Andreas tapped Roy’s helmet, wedged in the crook of the boy’s arm. “Perfectly so. We’ll crush them within the hour and return home in time for the Bacchanalia. Now suit up.”
Andreas moved farther up the hill. Grass poked his toes, his sandals catching in bits of dirt. He stopped, a clear view below. There was a mass of men in rags approaching, as haphazard and exposed as they expected. A barbaric cluster of noise.
“Tell them to sound the trumpets,” Andreas said, turning to Brutus. “And take Roy back to the hastati.”
“Finally.” Brutus spat on the ground. His smile was bright. “Carpe diem!”
Andreas marched on, beelining to where his men stood waiting. The familiar weight of silver and horsehair again touched his skull. He fastened the helmet, its coolness welcome. Upon his head, the red plumes shimmered, as if peacock feathers dipped in blood.
He then said a final prayer to Mars:
“Mars unconquered, in your cloud-capped crag of Mount Haemus, we beseech you bestow upon us, your blood: vigor, victory, glory.”
#drabble#hmmm I think I inserted the spinoff characters#because I want to see how close I get their actual personas#maybe I can manifest some things!!#Spanish didn't exist as a language yet so I'm taking liberties with 'adapting' everyone's names lol
