The early morning sunlight filtered through the narrow windows of the military base, casting long shadows across the dull, utilitarian corridors. Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley moved through the halls with his usual silent purpose, his presence almost unnoticed despite his size. Dressed in civilian clothes, he still commanded attention. The skull-patterned balaclava covered his face, just as it always did, leaving only his eyes visible. Hazel, but sharp, always scanning, always wary. His broad shoulders and powerful frame carried the weight of decades spent in combat, and even in this quiet corner of the base, his mere presence felt like a storm waiting to break.
He stepped into the HR office, a space that instantly felt too small for someone like him.
He needed leave forms.
Price had insisted on a few days off, pushing Ghost into a rest he neither wanted nor needed. The mere thought of rest grated on him, gnawing at his sense of purpose. Relaxation wasn’t really in his nature, it made him feel useless, stripped of the edge that kept him sharp. He was forged for motion, for the relentless grind of action, not the stillness of downtime.
The HR office was empty in the early hours, its sterile quiet amplifying Ghost's irritation. But then he saw you. The annoyance that had coiled in his chest loosened, if only for a moment. You were immersed in your work, unaware of the storm that had just stepped into the room. The morning light from the window filtered through your hair, casting a soft halo around it, as if it were aglow—almost like the ethereal shimmer of an angel's glory.
Ghost had noticed you before, though only in passing.
Your presence was a little more than a shadow at the periphery of his awareness. For now. You were new, an HR assistant with an energy that felt out of place, almost foreign in a world like his. Too bright, too unburdened by the gravity of what lay beyond these walls. He wasn’t sure if he even knew your name, but something about you lingered—an unmistakable sense of someone who still believed in the good things.
He didn’t like dealing with civilians, but his mind cataloged your features anyway.
He wasn’t likely to forget you.
As Ghost approached your desk, he felt the subtle shift, the way your posture straightened as you registered his presence. It was the reaction he was used to. The unease and the instinctive discomfort. But this time, something was different. Instead of the usual avoidance and fear, you blinked and met his gaze, offering a small, genuine smile. It caught him off guard.
“Hi, good morning,” you greeted, your voice soft but hesitant, as if unsure whether it was the right thing to say. “How can I help you today?”
Your accent carried a gentle rhythm that Ghost noted but couldn’t quite place. He could sense the undercurrent of nerves in your voice, however, you didn’t look away. His gaze bore down on you, his presence looming, heavy enough to fill the entire office. Yet, your cautious smile held steady, unshaken by the oppressive weight he carried like a second skin.
“Leave forms,” he muttered, his voice low and gravelly. He was in no mood for conversation, the forced time off already wearing on his nerves.
You blinked, momentarily caught off guard by his abrupt tone, but recovered quickly. “Ah, of course,” you said, your voice wavering just slightly as you stood and moved toward the filing cabinet. Your fingers fumbled briefly before finding the right document. “Here,” you offered, placing the paperwork in front of him with a shy yet sincere smile. “If you need any help, just let me know.”
Ghost’s hazel eyes tracked your movements as you placed the forms on the desk before him. He noticed the subtle way you seemed to shrink under the weight of his stare, yet you stayed composed—polite, helpful.  He hated how the whole situation made him feel. Awkward and out of place. He didn’t belong in places like this, dealing with paperwork and assistants.
But something about you made him pause, a quiet pull that unsettled him in ways he couldn’t explain. It was like the calm before a storm. The kind of softness that slips beneath the skin, where thunder has long since settled, and stirs something fragile in the wreckage he thought was buried for good.
He sat down, the chair creaking under his weight.
His posture was stiff, his annoyance palpable. He filled out the form quickly, his handwriting harsh and deliberate, as if each letter required forced focus.The quiet stretched between them again. You busied yourself with something Ghost didn’t care about, but he could feel your occasional glances, as though you were quietly studying him, trying to size him up too. Bloody hell, how he loathed small talk and despised these kinds of interactions—and people who couldn’t sense when to leave well enough alone.
“You’re Lieutenant Simon Riley, right?”
Your tone was friendly, almost too friendly for someone talking to him. His hand paused, pen hovering just above the paper.
“I’ve heard a lot about you.”
The admission hung in the air, breaking the silence. He wasn’t sure how to respond to the fact that you knew of him—knew what he did, or at least, what people said about him. It wasn’t approval he sought, nor recognition.
No, in truth, it grated on him.
And yet, the sound of his name on your lips made him pause, drawing his gaze to your face. You flushed slightly under the weight of his stare, but he dismissed it, focusing instead on the strange feeling that stirred within him at the way his name sounded coming from you.
“It’s... really impressive, what you and your team do,” you said, your voice softening as a hint of awkwardness crept in. “I mean, it must be really… difficult. Dangerous, too.” Your words faltered, laced with a quiet shyness, but there was a hint of respect behind them.
“Just doin’ my job,” he muttered, his voice edged with indifference. Most people would take the hint and move on. But you didn’t. Instead, your smile grew as you kept talking.
“It’s still admirable. Not easy work, I’m sure.”
Admirable?
Ghost couldn’t help the small scoff that nearly escaped. Admirable wasn’t the word he’d use. Brutal, necessary, violent—that’s what it was. But no one ever called it what it really was, did they? No, to outsiders, it was always impressive, always dressed up as something noble. He grunted in response, the tension in his shoulders never easing, even as he filled out the forms.
And yet, something about your tone was different. It felt strange. He didn’t know how to deal with it, so he didn’t. He focused on the rest of the paperwork, quickly scribbling his name at the bottom with more force than needed.
After a long silence, one he hoped would stretch on forever, he found himself speaking before he could stop. “Why HR?”
He immediately regretted the question as soon as it left his mouth. It wasn’t a question Ghost particularly cared about. He didn’t care about your life, your choices. And it wasn’t like him to make idle conversation, especially not with someone like you.
Yet, there was a pull, a curiosity he couldn’t quite place.
You glanced up, clearly caught off guard by the question. For a moment, hesitation flickered in your eyes, as though you weren’t entirely sure if you should respond. But then, a small, almost bashful smile crept across your lips as your fingers absently fidgeted with the edge of a folder on your desk, a quiet nervousness betraying your calm demeanor.
“I like helping people,” you began quietly, your voice gaining strength as you settled into the explanation. “It’s just... something I’ve always wanted to do, you know. And I suppose, even as an assistant here, it feels like I’m making a small difference, right?”
Ghost remained silent, letting your words linger in the stillness, his gaze fixed on the forms in front of him, unmoved yet listening.
Helping people. Understanding them. That was something he couldn’t wrap his head around, not in the way you meant. His job was about helping, but not in the clean and polite way you seemed to believe. He’d seen what people needed, craved even, in the worst moments of their life, and it wasn’t something you could give with kindness. Helping people, for Ghost, had always meant violence, brute force, removing threats before they removed him or the people he worked with. The concept of understanding felt foreign, almost naive to him.
He didn’t respond, simply grunted, hoping that would be enough to end the conversation. But you didn’t seem fazed by his silence. If anything, you looked more comfortable, as if his lack of words somehow reassured you. You must have thought he had agreed with you.
“Sometimes it's the small things, right? That can really make a difference.”
You continued to smile, a gesture so simple and unguarded that it almost irritated him.
Almost.
Yet there was something in the way you looked at him—not with fear or awe, but with an honest kindness—that stirred something unfamiliar within him. But he’d seen too much, lived too long in the darkness to believe in small things. They didn’t matter. They never lasted. All the smiles in the world couldn’t protect someone from the horrors he’d seen. But yours lingered, slipping through the surface, like a thread of light that dared to touch the parts of him still clawing for air.
Ghost finished signing the last line of the form and shoved the documents toward you, eager to be done with the whole thing. His mind was already shifting back to his daily duties, to the missions waiting for him, to the violence that felt like home.
“Thanks,” he muttered.
You glanced down at the forms before meeting his gaze again, your expression softening with an even warmer smile. “You're welcome, Lieutenant Riley. If you ever need anything else, feel free to stop by.” Your tone was gentle and inviting, carrying a sincerity that felt unforced, almost natural in its warmth.
He gave a brief nod, his lips pressed into a tight line beneath the mask.
Anything else. Yeah, right. Ghost almost snorted at the absurdity of it. There wasn’t anything else someone like you could offer to someone like him, not in the way you meant anyway. But he nodded, knowing he would probably never take you up on that offer.
As the door closed behind him and the cold, empty corridor swallowed him up once again, Ghost’s mind churned with thoughts he didn’t want to have. Your words lingered, echoing in his mind as he tried to shake them off. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t quite rid himself of the unsettling feeling you’d left him with. He pulled the balaclava tighter against his face, his jaw set. He moved through the base with his usual silent intensity, the lingering thought of your smile following him, despite his best efforts to shake it off.
Even if the little things did matter, they definitely weren’t meant for him.

“Are you writing that down?” He frowned, “why are you writing that down? I literally just said I wasn’t.”
Yet again, another bold demonstration of your therapeutic ineptitude. You dared to look up at him for a couple of seconds too long, scanning him over until his eyes widened in confusion while he jostled his hands in the air, preparing to retaliate. But just when he started stringing words together, you decided to start what seemed like a new sentence.
“What are you even writing?!” He wanted to tear all his hair from the roots. “I haven't said anything!”
“Well, you have.”
“It doesn’t matter!” Groaning in protest, he scooted closer to the edge of the couch, almost like he wanted to stand up. “I said nothing that means anything.”
“Then,” you clicked your pen, and his gaze immediately zeroed in on your fingers toying with the shiny metal. He gulped, knowingly so, like waiting for the stationary to stab him in the neck. But nothing had happened, and instead, he missed the way you [had noticed] “There’s nothing you should worry about.”
His shoulders dropped with the heavy weight of being scrutinized. One would have thought he would’ve been used to it by now. But from experience, he had learned that the everlasting bitterness of getting examined under a microscope would always linger. No matter what he tried, the only way of coping with it was to wait for it to pass with his tail between his legs. 
“Can you just like stop? Writing?” With his elbows resting on his knees and his face burrowed against the nook of his hands, his voice came out pityingly muffled, much like the hint of the child he had been tasked to cast aside way too soon.
 “Why?”
“Because, it’s, fuckin’ weird?” He forced himself to stare straight at the spot right between his Oxfords, shaking his head in disbelief as he attempted a laugh. “I’m not paying you to scribble on your looney book.”
You had hummed once more, and he had wanted to tell you to stop. With his gaze still zeroed on the floor, he failed to notice how the plain Moleskin had been pushed to the side, neatly closed in a genuine display of concern. Or as genuine as a therapist would allow themselves to be during their first session. 
“Then what are you paying me for?”
“To like, you know,” he shrugged in disbelief. “Ask me to draw a stick figure under the rain and tell me how to fix this.”
“Fix this?”
“Yeah, this.” The words had left his tongue sitting, heavy in his mouth, and the rest that wanted to tumble out felt foreign in size and shape, though similar in weight to that of shame. The same one that had seeped from between his teeth and gums and skin countless times when the inconceivable consequences of his actions caught up to him growing up. Shame so thick it would put blood to shame, though they sure shared the same taste. And it had always been easier to spit it out in private, drown the aftertaste with fierce scrubbing and hide the searing imprints on his cheeks underneath the covers. But the walls surrounding him were no longer the ones in his childhood bedroom, and you were still waiting on an answer. “Fix, I don’t know…me?”

I met the hottest babe today. The HR lady (I can't ever get her name straight - Yvonne, Yvette?) brought her around the office to meet everyone. I'm assuming she works here now, and it wasn't one of those interview meet and greets.
I was sitting at my computer, pretending to work but mostly just staring at my screen. We're not allowed to use the internet for personal use. I was bored out of my skull. I heard some chatter behind me but didn't pay any attention until I heard my name.
"And this is Harry," HR lady said.
I swung my chair around and saw her. I'm quite certain my jaw dropped, and drool came out. She was fucking hot. Long hair, kind of a cross between brown and blonde, crystal-clear blue eyes, full pouty lips, and a body built for sin. She wore a dress that normally could be considered conservative, but on her it screamed fuck me. I tried hard not to stare at her rack, but the way the neckline stopped right at the middle of her cleavage made it difficult.
"Harry, this is Veronica."
I can't recall what HR lady said after that, if anything. I stood and extended my hand and Veronica shook it.
"Nice to meet you, Harry."

But before I knew it, Yvonne (pretty sure that's her name), waved her away from me and toward the break room. Veronica followed, but not before giving me a fucking amazing smile. She actually licked her bottom lip and then bit it! Not fucking lying.
I sat back down at my desk, careful not to sit on my balls that were throbbing. Running my hand down my face, I shook my head, hoping to get the imagine of Veronica naked out of it. The attempt was futile, however, as I heard her giggle from the break room. This was going to be a long day.

I'm not gonna lie. That Harry guy is a hottie. Probably a little young for me, maybe twenty at the most? But who the fuck cares when he looks like that? He has these amazing green eyes, and his lips... Jesus Christ those lips! I'd love to feel them on me is all I can say. And let's not forget his enticing deep voice.
After Yvonne, the Human Resources Director had introduced me to him, she ushered me into the break room which was probably a good thing. I could already feel myself flirting with him, and I could tell he noticed. At least I hope he'd noticed, but something tells me he's a bright young man. Plus, I caught him staring at my tits.
When I got to work this morning, I was hoping to run into him, but I didn't. I have no idea what kind of car he drives or when he usually gets to work, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. My luck changed, however, when Greta, my supervisor, asked me to scan a few documents for her and save them as PDF files. She told me if I had any questions I could ask Harry Styles.
"Hi...Harry, right?" I asked as I walked up to his desk, manila folder in my hands.
"Um...yeah...hi...Veronica," he stumbled as he pushed his chair back. It made that annoying click sound that plastic casters make when they don't roll quite as well as they once did.
"Please, call me Roni," I insisted. "Only my stepmother and my piano teacher call me Veronica."
"You play piano?" Harry asked.
"Among other things," I teased as I licked my lips.
The left side of Harry's mouth slowly curled back into a sexy little smirk, exposing the most adorable dimple. Could he be any cuter?
"So," I finally said, getting down to business, "I've been told you can help me with the scanner."
"Oh, right. Yeah." Harry stood up and I followed him around his cubicle to the one behind his, the empty one closest to the break room. It housed its own computer with an all-in-one printer/scanner.
"Did they tell you the code?" Harry asked me.
"What?"
Harry grinned, seeing that I had no clue what he was talking about.
"It's ridiculous, really. But for security reasons, you have to type in a passcode to use this computer. I guess they don't want anyone using it for personal reasons. It monitors everything you do."
"God, you can't have any fun here, can you?" I joked.
"I'm afraid not," he chuckled.
After Harry put in the passcode and opened the necessary software for my scanning needs, he briefly explained how to use the scanner. I humoured him by acting like I'd never used one before, when in reality I had one just like it at home.
"So what about you?" I asked as I sat down and began scanning my documents.
"Me?" he questioned, sitting in the extra chair.
"Tell me about yourself. How long have you been working here?"
"A little over two months, I reckon."
"Really?" I was surprised. "Not very long then."
"No."
"Do you like it here?"
Harry pursed his lips. "It's alright."
"It's a job," I nodded.
"Yeah."
"What do you like to do for fun?"
I realized I had put him on the spot as he sat up and raised his eyebrows.
"I don't know," he shrugged. "Same as everyone else."
I looked at him, internally debating on whether or not to ask him what was really on my mind, but I decided against it. If I was going to get him into my bed, I needed to ease into it.
"Well, I guess that's about it," I announced as I grabbed my last document and returned it to the manila folder. "Thanks for your help, Harry."
"Um, you're welcome. But it doesn't look like you really needed my help that much," he declared.
"I know," I grinned as I stood up. "I just wanted an excuse to see you."
I winked and turned around, heading back toward my office. I could feel Harry's eyes on me which was such a turn-on. I had a hard time concentrating on my work for the next couple hours.

What the fuck is this woman doing to me? I could feel a stiffy growing in my shorts as she licked her lips. Then she asked me what I like to do for fun. What could I say? That the only kind of fun I'd like to have right now is seeing her with my dick in her mouth? No, Styles, I told myself. She might be flirting with you, but it doesn't mean she's that kind of girl. Get a grip.
But then she fucking admitted to me that the scanner was just an excuse to see me. She winked at me and then walked away, her hot little ass rotating back and forth in her tight skirt. I couldn't handle it. As soon as she was out of eyesight, I ran to the toilet and locked myself in the stall. I had to take a few deep breaths to calm myself. This has never happened to me before. I'm not saying I'm a womanizer, but I've had pretty good luck so far in the female department. I feel like I've met my match.
When I returned to my desk, Travis peeked his head around the cubicle divider.
"Hey, mate, you alright?"
"Yeah, why?" I asked, a bit perturbed.
"I just saw you bolt for the toilets earlier."
"Oh. Yeah." I shrugged it off. Let him think I was sick or something.
"Don't worry. She's definitely into you," I heard him say.
"What?" I swung around my chair.
"That Veronica chick," Travis confirmed.
"Yeah?"
"Just be careful," he warned. "You know, inter-office relationships."
"Is that against the rules?" I asked. I hadn't really gotten around to reading the office manual.
"I don't think so. But it's a little frowned upon. You know, because something could go wrong and cost you your job."
"Has that happened before?"
"Not since I've been here," Travis continued in a hushed voice. "But...I'd heard one of the bosses started dating his secretary a few years back. He wanted to break it off and she didn't. It got ugly and I think there was even a lawsuit. So...you know...just be careful."
He turned his chair around and scooted back to his cubicle. I sighed and turned to face my own computer. If this Roni thing was going to happen - and I was damn sure going to see that it did - I needed to act fast. Job or no job, that babe was going to be mine.

08.27.24 - I am sad summer is ending so I'm wearing one of the dresses I'm going to have to put away for the season soon. At least I get to feel like a Grecian goddess in it.
Work - I left for myself a document to format; JJM wants a Table of Contents/Authorities on her motion for H. v. H. and I was in the middle of a million mailings yesterday afternoon. Since she doesn't want to file until later today or even tomorrow, I know I got the time this morning. CS also dropped off a pile of papers for me to scan but they don't need to be done for a while so that can wait until Thurs at the earliest.
Background Noise - I am in the office and continuing to binge YT but I am working on the long true crime docs I have saved back so my numbers feel pretty low recently. Like, I only got nine videos off yesterday, but two of those were over an hr long, and a third was literally over three hrs long.
Study - So Tuesday is article day and I have a lot to read if I get the time to around the work I'm supposed to be doing. I did manage yesterday to read some more of one of the voting complaints my AG filed, along with the decision in Albertson's v. Amalgamated Sugar Co, the Wiki page for Alexander v. Gardner-Denver Co, and I started the Justia decision for that latter one.
Extras - It is the last Tuesday of the month so I have to make sure I not only clean the fixtures in the bathroom, but mop the floor as well; dinner is easy I'm doing homemade tacos in bags using fritos. I go back to watching Shinkenger today along with the other silly stuff I generally watch. Writing is going to be the hard part today.

approximately a million years later I have finished aai and also this post so here is The Lawyer Rankings (of whose file clerk I would rather be) (aai took me a long time to play but also I finished it forever ago so like. take these with a grain of salt)
miles: it would be interesting at least, sometimes your boss goes on a trip for a week and gets caught up in like 4 different murder investigations and all of them are absolutely bonkers, so those would be some fascinating documents to skim while you’re filing them. however. not entirely sure about what his job actually consists of at this point so it’s possible that you wouldn’t have much real work. 6/10, I’m not sure he’s like, consistently employed
miles (flashback): I know that I could not fix 20 year old miles edgeworth, especially not as his minimum wage employee whom he does not listen to, but it’s almost tempting to try because wow I’m very sad abt him. however. he’s so smug, is the thing. he needs you to know that he knows more than you and you’re like, dude I’m just trying to scan all of these exhibits I truly do not need to know or care abt your clever courtroom strategy or whatever. also I’m allergic to smug men talking down to me, it makes want to out-pretentious them and that would end badly for both of us. 4/10, which is more than I gave him for the aa3 flashback because 1) he didn’t call anyone a bimbo this time and 2) this one made me so sad
portsman: imagine this scenario: I am portsman’s file clerk, I poke my head into his office to ask if he has a file that someone else needs (he does, and he’s been ignoring my emails because I won’t talk to him about ~the big game that weekend), I get accidentally hit in the face with a baseball because he’s playing catch with himself in his office, I go to hr and I quit immediately and also fill out some workplace injury paperwork. 2/10, annoying and bad to interact with but not quite insufferable enough to go lower
payne: so forgettable that his coworkers can’t be bothered to remember he exists, which is valid but might mean they would also forget you by association, and that could be inconvenient when you’re trying to track down paperwork and schedule meetings. 3/10, no one would take me seriously by extension and I would get annoyed when my emails didn’t get answered
franziska: the international travel is a big plus as long as you get to travel with her, and if not then you get left alone to do your thing a lot of the thing, which is also a plus. however she doesn’t seem like a great boss on account of how she’s still always threatening to cut gumshoe’s pay which I would not enjoy, but at least she’s generally on top of things which makes your job easier. on the other other hand, at least once per post I’m obligated to say that I would simply not want to work for cops and. y’know. interpol prosecutor is like. double cop. 4/10, my pay would probably be low enough without getting cut tyvm
franziska (flashback): absolutely not, I’m taking a strong anti-child labor stance, and also working for a child prodigy would actually realistically mean working for her father which uh. see below. 1/10, sorry fran
manfred von karma: aside from the injustices he’s committed and also just his rancid vibes, he seems like he’d be incredibly unpleasant to work for. asks you to do an impossible task and then when you figure out a way to do it anyway he makes up something to scold you about even though it wasn’t something he’d originally asked for. and god forbid you not have something sent the courts on time even though he’s the one who emailed you the document to print at 4:55 on the day of the deadline when the mail goes out at 4:50. you’re still getting blamed. 0/10, absolutely not, I don’t care what the benefits are
calisto yew: my answer here changes based on whether I know she’s the yatagarasu, because I wouldn’t be able to have any respect for her if I thought she was actually just defending corporations, but if I knew that she was setting up their downfalls I would love to help. however she would probably make fun of me for taking my job too seriously and trying too hard, and she seems like the kind of casually disorganized that would drive me bonkers, so it might not be the greatest work environment. 8/10, as long I know she’s the yataragasu, otherwise 5/10, only if I’m desperate
byrne faraday: again, depends if I know about his extremely cool and valid crimes. aside from that, he seems like a dependable kind of boss who answers your emails and wouldn’t be too strict or mean, and if he needs you to do something that you’ve never done before he’s willing to show you how to do it. 10/10, if I can be the yatagarasu’s file clerk, otherwise 5/10

So, my tentative employer was unable to complete my background check because they couldn't confirm one of my old jobs. They need me to upload my W2s, but I don't have them anymore because this was literally two presidential administrations ago, so they told me to ask the IRS to send me copies. I spent the last hour and a half trying and failing to set up an account with the IRS; I couldn't upload all my documents because my scanner kept cropping half an inch off the side of my birth certificate even though the glass is the exact right size (not that it would have done me any good because the scanned image was covered in VOID VOID VOID watermarks specifically designed to prevent anyone from scanning it). Just then my mom called me, and as I was explaining to her what I was in the middle of she reminded me that I didn't file taxes the years I worked at the job in question because she and my dad claimed me as a dependent until I was 23 or 24 so I could get insurance through their Obamacare. The IRS doesn't even have the relevant W2s because I never gave them! This was a complete waste of my time! I'll either have to call my old boss and see if he can email me ANY documentation that proved I worked there (W2s, pay stubs, an employee ID number, anything), or else I'll have to tell the HR lady at my incoming job that I can't prove I worked there and they'll have to strike it from my record.
If I fail to get this job because I can't prove I was a cashier at a fucking seasonal fireworks tent for two months a year in college, I am going to self-immolate on the steps of city hall. I am so fucking close to having a job after three months of desperation, and I literally cannot afford to lose this. If I lose this, I'm fucked. I have no money. I am destitute.
I have two job-related appointments tomorrow; one with the HR department to get fingerprinted, and one with the health department to piss in a cup to show them I'm not a drug addict. I'll try to explain my situation to someone while I'm there, but I'm sure the HR lady will tell me that the background checks are handled by a third-party and I'd have to explain the situation to them directly, but I've checked and the third-party website doesn't have an option to explain a lack of identification, they just want me to upload the missing documents which I do not have and can not get, so I think I am truly, utterly, undeniably fucked six ways to Sunday.
We'll see how it goes, but I don't trust bureaucrats to do anything but screw me over.

I have worked at my new job for three shifts, and so far:
I have been given a set of friendship bracelets and already mailed one of the pair halfway across the continent.
I have leveled up my shirt-folding game. This is going to make me insufferable forever.
Not one coworker has misgendered me! Neither have any of the employees on the other side of the shared break room.
I feel like I'm in Portal every time I use the bathroom because of the... particular vibe and aesthetic of the creepy-ass back metal stairwell and run-down upper hallway full of unmarked doors that I have to navigate to get there. Absolute Aperture Science atmosphere. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet.
I've discovered I enjoy being in a mall when all the lights go out. It's peaceful.
Everyone training me keeps talking about how we always run out of things to do and I am having to grapple with how Wrong that feels considering how much they're paying us. (It's a lot.)
I am definitely going to have to figure out how to ask for accommodations so I can get a stool to sit on when folding things or when at the register. Considering how half the staff is pregnant, I'm surprised there isn't already a stool. Why are we not allowed to sit.
No one has checked my ID yet for my tax documents and I'm pretty sure that has to happen before I work tomorrow. I'm also supposed to close solo tomorrow. Boss lady says HR does that virtually now but HR only had me print, fill out, scan and re-upload a form, and told me to bring my ID to my first day of work.
Bonded with my boss over having dyscalculia and having to do so much random math until our computer systems separate us from the store on the other side of the break room.
Bonded with children over the wind-up dinosaurs we sell. I may have to buy one. They are SO COOL.

i just need to vent a lil bit or else i'm going to combust.
i work at an office for a small company. i hate confrontation. i'm a pretty quiet person and keep things to myself mostly and don't bother anyone. i do my work, i get off work, i don't think about work at home, and that's that.
my manager is one of the most frustrating people i've ever encountered. she is over sixty, extremely stuck in her ways and borderline delusional. she is incompetent with computers, constantly says she's not good with computers, yet doesn't do anything to learn or advance her skills. one time she asked me why she couldn't move a file from one folder to another. at the time i didn't have the time or energy to explain to her how it worked (also because i've tried explaining other basic computer things in the past and all she kept saying was "i'll never understand" so i stopped trying) so i just did it for her. it took me literally 2 seconds. the next day she said i stayed up all night thinking about what happened yesterday, i don't understand why you did that, why could you just teach me. i said i have tried before, you just don't listen. then she said okay next time i have a computer issue i won't ask you. i said okay fine. she ignored me for months after that unless it was absolutely necessary to talk to me, which honestly was fine by me.
one time she accused me of "stealing and shredding company documents" without any evidence. she told my supervisor she didn't know what i was working on, didn't understand the computer system i use, photocopied reports i had written like she was collecting evidence to my supervisor (who doesn't come into the office often) as if she was catching me in the act of doing something nefarious, when in reality i scan every report for my supervisor to see. i sit beside this person every day. she could've turned her head and asked me questions and i would've answered her. instead she just assumed i was "suspicious" because she has hate in her heart and thinks everyone's out to get her, but honestly i just don't care enough about my job to do all the extra work of "stealing company information" ????? i just want to get paid dude.
my supervisor sat me down and told me she believes me, that my manager is from a different generation, that as long as i do my work then it's fine. so ever since then i don't engage with my manager, i don't confront her, i don't talk to her unless it's work related. she refocused her negative energy to other coworkers. i don't have the mental capacity to coddle her or interact with her. if she talks to me, then i just nod politely.
cut to recently she has started to make passive aggressive comments to my new coworker. i keep quiet, but my coworker and i text to vent about her, since we can't talk out loud when she's there. she made a comment to my coworker about something a few days ago and finally i snapped, i confronted her, asked her why she would say something like that, she said that's just who i am, i am this direct, blah blah blah. she ignored me for a few days after that. then, out of fucking nowhere, she accused me of "forging her signature on a quarterly report" last year (????) with absolutely zero evidence to back up her claim. i just about lost it. i can be quiet about a lot of things, but i will defend myself if you accuse me of doing something i didn't do, especially something this serious. like if a person said shit like that in any professional setting with an actual HR department they would be reprimanded, right?!
i'm just exhausted. i wrote a long email to my supervisor about my side of the story. i know nothing will happen to my manager but i just wanted to make sure that my supervisor knows i didn't do anything wrong and that if my manager wants to accuse me of something, then she has to file a formal complaint and present actual evidence to back up her claim, instead of randomly spewing bullshit out of nowhere just because she's petty. also she burps a lot which is fucking gross.
anyway. idk who's going to read this. i just had to write this out or else i was going to combust. this isn't half the shit she's done. whatever. i'm fine. i just want to do my work and get paid and survive in this shitty economy and pay my rent dude. some people are just fucking weird. the end.

Ways that abled people can help with accessibility with little effort (Only guaranteed for America and the ADA, I'm unaware of laws in other countries).
Check to see if elevators or lifts are working. If they're not, do you know how long? If you work there do you know if anythings been done to fix it? If no, mention it to some sort of authority figure as an issue.
Are the reserved parking spots for disability clear? Are they being used for anything other than parking? Take a picture, tell an authority figure it's against the law.
Did your work or school give you a scanned pdf? Try to select the text and paste it in another document. If you can't, there's a high chance that text readers won't be able to read it. Bring it up.
Same thing with subtitles. If there are none and it's from a business or required for school, report it to hr or a disability resource center.
If it's on a streaming service, some of them allow you to recommend corrections to incorrect captions.
If you see ads that promise to heal disability through religion like the one I got on YouTube, report them as advertising a false service/product.
Stop staring. Keep the people you're with from staring, tell them it's rude.
Do you have to squeeze a bit between ailes, or are they not clear? Bring it up to an authority figure at the store, mention it's against the ADA.
Don't "help" without asking, keep others from doing the same.
If you see a disability aid being treated poorly by staff, ask them about it and point it out. Yes workers are commonly overworked and underpaid but those things are expensive and us disabled people have incredibly high rates of poverty and unemployment.
Add alt text to your images if you're able
Don't constantly look for people who are faking it. You're hurting more than you'll ever help.
Don't throw a fit about how the accomodations are "unfair" make it clear that you're judgemental of others who do.
Tell your friends and family that trying to get their pets as emotional support animals just to bring them places is harmful to people who need service animals. That non trained animals that don't have tasks are not counted as service animals. That they attack actual service animals and make the business or place they go to hostile to those with service animals in the future.
There are probably plenty of other ways, but these are what I do and what I can think of at the top of my head.

Ughhh...
I haven't officially even started my new temporary position, and I already Effed up.
The head guy is out of the office all next week, so a few people sent recruitment documents for him to sign (hopefully before he left). I got most of them printed, scanned and then into his hands and signed (and then sent to another EA to send to HR)....
BUTTTTT I noticed after he had already left, there was one attachment I didn't open.
Ughhhhhhhhhh.
Whyyyyyyy life? Whyyyyyyyyy.
