it always makes me sad to think about how young achilles was when he went to war. he spent a third of his life living to die. and he was too young to know any better about what it truly means to die for glory. he’d just been raised on the premise that it was a good thing to do. the best thing to want. better than any kingdom: glory in death.

his character is what comes of a child expected to be the best warrior. what comes of someone so young being raised in a world where violence is your most valuable asset. what comes of having human flesh and red blood but being expected to be a god. at just sixteen.

this is why i prefer to look at achilles as a figure of anti-war. his character shows us what it looks like to be a person who’s entire life has been defined by violence, by war, and — inevitably— by his death.

I think the best titans tower scenario is one where tim gets a good look at jason in his new and improved robin outfit and gets so hard so fast he’s lightheaded, immediately derailing jason’s plans for the beat down because Jason’s going “what kind of FREAK”

I reblogged the "would you have been naturally selected out of the population without the advancements of modern medicine" poll and tagged it "bad news for many of you who voted no" and I got an ask where someone asked me why I tagged it that.

the answer is bc many of the advancements of modern medicine are invisible to us and we have no way of knowing in what ways we would be suffering without them!

so like, you could go "well sure I had a kidney infection once that would have killed me without antibiotics" or "I was a c section baby" or "I was a really early preemie" or whatever other thing that concretely is like "without specific treatments this would have resulted in death"

but I feel like we don't think a lot about just how high mortality from infectious disease used to be

like and there's no way to vote in a way that acknowledges "I would have died of smallpox or measles" but MANY OF US WOULD HAVE. VACCINES HAVE SAVED MANY OF US IN WAYS WE WILL NEVER KNOW

not to mention healthcare adjacent public health measures like food safety and water treatment!

so anyway. that's why I said bad news. many more of us would die actually! SO MANY PEOPLE DIED, DUDE.

i have a quastion: reading about omegaverse, i've seen the term "drop" used when talking about alphas and omegas, what does it mean for an individual to go through a drop? is it an emotional, physical, or mental state? all three? super curious

my understanding of ‘drop’ as it’s used is:

drop is an altered psychological state induced by scruffing or overwhelming an omega with (usually a compatible alpha’s) pheromones. in this state, an omega experiences a state of deep relaxation and suggestibility similar to hypnosis. in some cases, this state can be induced to soothe an omega experiencing psychological shock, one near ferality, or one in extreme pain.

i’ve added drop to my list of concepts to explore in greater detail on this blog, because it’s very interesting

so I had a realization. if gems inherently are made with the ability to fuse, and their primary method of fusion is syncing the way they dance..... does Jasper good at dance

like ok HEAR ME OUT. we only get to see her fuse twice. once with Lapis, which was some boring little twirl dance (that I'd let her do to me but I digress), and the other with the corrupted gem monster, which was literally just grabbing onto it (which is fair, bc corrupted gems can't dance). so we never get to see her actually *try* when she needs to fuse.

every set of two different gems we see actually try and fuse has a *distinct* style that they use to sync their mental states. it can be long or short depending on the fusion, but it's through *dancing.* newer gems to fusion don't necessarily dance (Pearl didn't dance with Rose the first time they nearly fused, Sapphire and Ruby "spun" but it wasn't quite a dance, Peridot had to be shown the ropes to dance when she considered fusion, the gems had to teach Steven to dance, etc etc) but Jasper KNEW fusion was initiated through dance. She knew it was dancing, because she deliberately danced with Lapis when fusing into Malachite.

she is a seasoned war hero. a highly decorated one, apparently. she was a major leader in the Homeworld army. she knows how to pilot even! Jasper is not without experience, she not only knows what cross-gem fusion is, but has seen it in action at some point, has clear, biased opinions about it, and *knows how to initiate* it. if she were to fuse with another gem, she would likely have to put effort into it

I say ALL OF THIS to ask... does Jasper good at dance and if so CAN I WATCH ???
