ive made a few of these bingo sheets and theyre fun so i decided to make one not just for e3 but also JUST for splatoon 3 (not just for e3 but for like the whole lifetime of the game). also heres my updated list of characters id like to see in smash, ordered generally by which id like more and/or think are the most realistic

since min min got in i took out helix, and since i couldnt decide whether to add in waluigi or madeline i added another row (realistically i dont think any indies are getting in but i threw some in anyway). also i was like “oh yeah maybe theyd put in a gen viii pokemon” so i threw in hatterene since thats one of my favorites.

also as for waluigi (and shovel knight for that matter) i think it would be nice to see an assist trophy get in just to break that rule. also i remember being super surprised he wasnt in brawl (back then i thought he and wario were equally important) and even though that was based on a wrong impression ive still felt like he should be in there ever since

really is about time for those n64 games, especially now that mario is dead so theyre free to release sm64 on it. game boy games would be nice sometime too

would also make sense to include banjo-kazooie in that, nintendos had a good relationship with microsoft lately and the total absence of anything banjo-kazooie on the switch is odd since it’s a dlc character (every other one has a game on switch they can use for cross-marketing, even if joker’s took a while) and i think the best explanation for that would be that theyre holding off for the nso n64 app (this is easiest from a technical standpoint because all they have to do is make a deal to use the roms)

when are they putting octolings in mk8d

xenoblade chronicles x is one of the only wii u games left that they could port (aside from ones that wouldnt make much sense like splatoon and ssb4) so i guess that might as well happen sometime. also monolith soft might be doing something else besides helping with splatoon 3

im not ready for metroid prime 4 (im over halfway through mp2 and therefore the trilogy as a whole) but it’s been a while, they might show it and it could even come out this year

the upgraded switch is obviously going to be called the Nintendo Switch ͥ since they already did the ds lite so theyre clearly naming everything in the family after the ds family, theres absolutely no flaw in this logic. idk if theyre showing it, but unlike 2019 they didnt say they werent showing new hardware (just that they were showing software, which could be taken as denying rumors, but they sometimes specify when certain things arent being shown)

metroid prime trilogy also might come this year. would make sense to release it before mp4 since not everyone is going to buy a wii u to get it (and at this point that doesnt get nintendo any money since they stopped making them)

i held off on watching a playthrough for ndrv3 on the off chance it came to switch and i could play a dangan ronpa game for real for once but it’s now been 4 years and we just passed the 10th anniversary of the series (albeit during a pandemic when i wouldnt expect them to have done anything) so it would be cool to see the series come to switch. i think if it still doesnt after this though i’ll just watch the playthrough, 4 years is long enough. amazed ive avoided spoilers this long, i still know next to nothing about the game

remove splatfest tee annoyances: you should have a prompt at the end of a splatfest to pay to scrub your tee (to make sure you get the chunks) also it should be on a neutral brand so you dont end up with an overabundance of ink resistance up (or whatever else)

better online and cloud saves would certainly justify having a second splatoon game on the same console, as much as im loving that it exists

an octavio redemption arc would be fun to see. in the manga he stole the zapfish because the octarians had an energy crisis, and in the end they worked out a deal to share the electricity

So I know what being sanitized is but noticed that places you can look it up like the wiki don’t go deep into detail about the specifics, so for my own pleasure I am going to write it out here (and maybe help others understand it along with myself).

Being sanitized is, in canon, what happens when you are covered in the “primordial ooze” that Tartar created.

As Inkipedia describes it: “These Octarians have been sterilized with a type of primordial ooze created by Commander Tartar. The process of sanitizing results in the Octarian losing all sense of free will, allowing them to be controlled similar to robots as seen with the dialogue from Sanitized Octolings. Marina notes that the sanitized Octarians appear to have no pulse or signs of life.”

Said primordial ooze is, in a sense, what you get from blending up countless Octarian lives into a paste. Like, literally. The best test subjects Tartar could get were all blended up into that ooze and then still living Octarians were “sanitized” in it (implied to be in test tubes from the way you create your characters in Octo Expansion). Tartar killed hundreds if not thousands to get this all, and there’s no telling how long he has been doing it. the 80s / 90s themes in Octo Expansion imply its been a long enough time for society to evolve past those trends; as in a decade or two, possibly longer (as Splatoon is set in the far future; I’m basing these assumptions by comparing Inkling culture to our own. The aesthetics can be completely irrelevant for all its worth).

It’s hard to say how much “ooze” a single Octarian life can give, but based on body size, I’d say it’s probably not that much... The test tube you are shown floating in for character creation has more than enough ooze to be equal to just one or two Octarians, in my opinion.

Look at all of that! There’s no way that isn’t several Octarians! It seems to require quite a lot for being sanitized, even if one might argue that isn’t all primordial ooze based on the bubbles. Perhaps it’s a watered down version or is mixed with some other types of chemicals to contribute to the process? It’s hard to say.

In the original Splatoon and later reinforced by Splatoon 2′s single player, it is pretty obvious that the large majority of Octarians seen are under some type of mind control. In Splatoon 2, Callie was under the same control. The difference with this and sanitized Octarians is that those under control by DJ Octavio seem to still have personalities and some sort of free will, even if it is not very prevalent. The cure to this has been proven to be hearing the Calamari Inkantation, which has shown up in both games and had lots of lore based off of it’s affects on Octarians and Inklings who hear it.

What a powerful thing!! So we have a cure to DJ Octavio’s meddling, which is great and is how Octolings like Marina were able to break free and truly be themselves under no one else’s control. I believe it is mentioned in Octo Expansion that Agent 8 recognizes this song, and it may even be the reason they were able to break free from being sanitized in the first place. It may be safe to assume this happened at the end of Splatoon 2′s single player, but I’m not sure enough to say that with total confidence.

So everything was getting better. But DJ Octavio was far from the biggest threat to Inkling and Octoling lives. He had power to control, but not strip away humanity completely. All he wanted was control fueled by his hatred, but Commander Tartar had WAY more extreme intentions. This is shown pretty strongly with the fact that DJ Octavio used his music and high-tech goggles to control, not something as extreme as blending up Octarians and bathing live ones in what remains. That’s just gruesome. So that hopefully demonstrates just how different the two “evils” are.

As shown in Octo Expansion’s final battle, Commander Tartar looks to destroy the entire world due to his hatred towards Octarians, Inklings, and both societies (Inkling society seems to be focused on here, considering what Commander Tartar says in his speech. But with his treatment of Octarians so far it’s pretty obvious he is fine killing them all as well.) While DJ Octavio’s intentions are definitely NOT good, it is much more tame compared to this.

So that is the motivation. Even using the “best and brightest test subjects”, Commander Tartar is still willing to do this gruesome task.

He believe all evolved lifeforms on the planet where Splatoon takes place are disgusting. The “best” of these disgusting lifeforms isn’t even enough for him to show mercy. He uses it for his benefit, that being his goal to destroy everything. How awful must an evil be to want to destroy everything...

But what exactly HAPPENS to the Octarians sanitized using this “supreme DNA”? We first learned of this with the creator of the music playing the the test facilities throughout Octo Expansion, Dedf1sh.

When sanitized, an Octarian will lose all free will and memory unless it is deeply ingrained (this is usually in reference to music). Dedf1sh was sanitized for reasons not exactly explained, just mentioning in her pursuit of music excellence that she came across the test facilities, and by proxy, Commander Tartar. Tartar’s goal for Octarians too mix into the ooze all seemed to have proficiency in the tests, and Dedf1sh probably wasn’t mixed because her heart was dedicated to music, even after being sanitized. Which is really impressive. She has lost almost all free will, but still somehow retains the drive to make music. So we know that there are circumstances where not all free will and memories can be completely lost, but Dedf1sh is obviously somewhat of an outlier there. No other sanitized Octarians or Octolings seem to have even a portion of their old selves. Dedf1sh and he dedication to her music has carried over, even if it’s just some sort of muscle conditioning. It shows its possible to not be completely gone, but even with this amazing example, she’s still VERY far gone from what can be understood. To retain any of your old self after this process must require outstanding circumstances.

But that aside, Dedf1sh still doesn’t have free will. She may be making music, but it is still all for the benefit of Commander Tartar, even if it may not seem that important. The importance of music and its meanings is one of the biggest themes in the Splatoon series, so there very well could be much more to her and what her music has the power to do.

What is even more worrisome about the products of sanitization is actually brought up by Marina briefly early in Octo Expansion. She mentions the affected Octarians not showing any pulse / sign of life. So are sanitized individuals ACTUALLY dead like Dedf1sh’s name may imply? I hope not. But looking at the facts, I’m going to say... Yes. Most likely. It may be more accurate to say they are undead. Personally, I believe the primordial ooze is like that of a parasite that uses the dead bodies of Octarians to follow Tartar’s will. I have no idea how any of Dedf1sh’s personality, even as small as what is seen, could survive that.

Now... All of the test subjects killed by Tartar had similar intentions, and practically identical skills. The skills are what seem to be what have translated in this mixing of DNA; the skills of battle. But the host body could very well still be a big part of this, as unbelievable as it seems. With different types of Octarians (like Octo Snipers), they still act like they do when not sanitized, generally. Perhaps host bodies can’t go past their physical limitations, even with so much “prime” DNA mixed into them. I doubt all of the ooze used for every creature you battle in Octo Expansion is separated by type of Octarian, so it makes me wonder if the ooze from Octolings are mixed in with other Octarians and that somehow causes unrest. If there is still some sort of sense of self even when being blended, I can’t imagine how awful it would be to be stuck in the mind of a creature that cannot physically do most stuff you could in life. But this is all ramblings. I still believe all individuality is gone when the ooze is made. It is just interesting to consider if maybe that wasn’t the case.

What I really want to know is if sanitized Octarians can be saved. They CAN be saved from mind control like DJ Octavios, but this literally takes away life. Will they just die without the ooze affecting them? Will the host bodies just be left lifeless? That’s my best guess, because HOW could you undo something that is almost certainly death? Perhaps something to do with “respawning” could come into play here if the Splatoon team really wanted to address the sanitized Octarians. What I worry is exactly how that would work. When Inklings and Octolings are splatted, we see little “souls” or “ghosts” rise from their bodies. I think it’s safe to say any creatures turned into ooze cannot be saved, ever, as all remnants of self are gone. But perhaps those like Dedf1sh and other sanitized Octolings who still somehow hold onto their old selves would still be able to come back? It’s hard to say, especially since it seems weird to even attempt to set lore to a game mechanic like respawning. It seems like a stretch, but I wouldn’t doubt the Splatoon team doing it if they really wanted to address this (which I hope they do). If that ever did end up happening, we would have a whole bunch of more implications for simple Turf Wars. I’m not sure Nintendo would be down with something like souls and possibly the afterlife being brought into this all. They can definitely be dark, but that’s kind of a rough topic as it can be associated with religion.

Upon close inspection, it seems that the little “souls” DO rise from splatted sanitized Octolings. That is definitely something to think about! Even being sanitized, Octolings affected STILL wear hypnoglasses, which itself may be a very good way to tell just how strong the minds of Octolings are! Who knows, maybe without the glasses and being washed of the ooze they could “respawn”. A neat thought, as unlikely as it is!

Anyways... I probably have more to say that I can’t think of at the moment. But I just needed to get this all down. I’ve had these thoughts jumbling around for a long time now and usually it helps me focus on other things if I write it down.

Splataclysm! - chapter 4

So uh, since Splatoon 2 is out now, have another chapter of the weird Splatoon AU I guess! Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about Splatoon it doesn’t matter lol

Octarian ink hurt.

That was the first thing Marinette found out after entering the kettle in Octo Valley, with Adrien – or Chat Noir, rather – at her side.

The Octotroopers were strange Octarian enemies that seemed to be a single tentacle, or bunch of tentacles, with a face stuck on them. They blasted out globs of toxic purple ink from their weapons. Slow moving, easy to splat, not very bright, situated at large intervals so it was easy to have a rest in between.

But still. Their ink hurt.

“This stuff is impossible to walk through,” Adrien muttered, flinging some green ink from his Krak-On Splat Roller onto the ground ahead to cover up the toxic purple ink.

“It’s a different type of ink,” Marinette replied.

“Indeed, that’s right, buckos!” The voice of Captain Fu echoed through their radios, slightly static. “And if you get splatted with this stuff, it’s curtains for you. There’ll be no respawning from that!”

“It’s alright, we won’t get splatted,” Marinette said. “Isn’t that right, Chat Noir?”

His face paled but he nodded anyway. “Yes that’s right… Ladybug…”

Marinette looked to their path ahead. These underground kettles certainly didn’t look underground from the inside, since the walls were covered in large screens that had sky and scenery on them. It made sense that the Octarians did that – no one would want to look at a grungy cave wall for their lives.

The two heroes carried on along the narrow pathways, trying to avoid falling down the sheer drops on the sides. Every now and then they’d come across another gonkish Octotrooper and it would shoot at them in complete futility. Splatting them was no real challenge. The Octotroopers were not very good at their job. Tiny droplets of their ink did manage to splash onto Marinette occasionally, and it stung, but it was nothing that a quick swim in inkling ink couldn’t heal.

It wasn’t long before the end of the kettle was in sight.

“There’s a butterfly trapped up there!” Captain Fu said, able to see what was going on through the miniature cameras installed in their outfits. “Go get it out of there and bring it back here!”

“Not the Great Butterfly?” Marinette asked.

“No, they won’t guard that one so easily. But they stole more butterflies from us than just that. You’ll have to free as many as possible. That’ll depower their defences enough for you to get further into Octarian territory.”

“And then we can find Nino,” Marinette said, directing that last bit at Adrien. He looked somewhat worried.

“Yep, that’s right!” Fu said. “Anyway, Octotroopers up ahead blocking your path. Give ‘em heck!”

Marinette didn’t even need to think. She ran up and unleashed a barrage of shots from her Hero Shot, hitting the Octotroopers before they could even blink. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Adrien doing the same with his weapon.

There, only a few left now. These remaining Octotroopers had shields up in front of them. Marinette lobbed a Splat Bomb over their heads, causing them to turn around and look, and then she splatted them while they were distracted. Huh, these poor Octotroopers really weren’t too smart. Hopefully they could respawn soon enough considering they were in their home area. She did not like the idea of killing off these Octarians for real.

Within a few more seconds, all the Octotroopers had been wiped out. Marinette leapt up onto the platform and grabbed the butterfly from where it had been trapped. It was concealed in a little yellow bubble and seemed to flutter excitedly when it saw that she was rescuing it.

“Good job, buckos! Now get that butterfly back here and we can start working on the next kettle!”

Adrien had left a Squid Beakon back near the entrance to the kettle so the two of them Super Jumped back to it, then climbed up out of the kettle and back into fresh air. Captain Fu was waiting there to greet them.

“Nice work!” He stepped forwards and took the butterfly off Marinette. “The next kettle’s gotta be around here somewhere, go have a look for it. I’ll go and put this back where it belongs.” He shuffled off with the butterfly.

“Well, we did it,” Marinette said, smiling at Adrien. “We did a good job.”

He shook his head. “No. You did a good job. I really didn’t get to do much.”

“What? Of course you did! You’re fantastic!”

“Not compared to you!”

She put a hand on his shoulder, looking him right in the eyes. “Is this because I’m a rank S+?”

“Huh? N-no, of course not… I just…” He looked down at the ground. “I really didn’t do that much. I want to help out more. I’ll do better next time. You’re just so fantastic, and so talented and so good at what you do! You’re amazing, Marinette!”

“It’s taken a long time of hard work to get as good as I am now. You’ll get there too soon enough. I know you haven’t been in Inkopolis for as long as I have, but you’re doing amazingly so far.”

He smiled, looking a little better now. “Thank you Marinette. I know we’re not supposed to tell anyone about what we’re doing here, but do you think my father would be proud of me?”

“Of course!”

“And would Nino be proud of us?”

“Nino would be super proud of us!”

“I can’t wait to see him again!”

“Me too.” Marinette turned and looked at the rest of the valley behind them. “Ready to go looking for more kettles?”

“Yeah, let’s do that!”

“Hey Rose, some dodgy emo sea urchin called Juleka wants your number because she’s too shy to ask you out in person.”

No point beating about the bush. At least this way Rose wouldn’t mistakenly think Nath wanted her number for himself.

“Oh, Juleka!” Rose smiled sweetly, mumbling through a mouthful of ice cream. “I’ve seen her! She’s such a cutie pie, isn’t she?”

“Uh… nah. Not really.”

Rose giggled. “Well, I would be very glad to talk to her in person, but if that would make her uncomfortable then she can certainly have my phone number. Here – please take this to her!”

Rose quickly took a piece of paper from her pocket and scribbled down a number, leaning on the table of the café in Arowana Mall that they were at. She handed it to Nath.

“Thanks,” he muttered, getting up to leave. “Uh, do you want me to pay for the ice cream, or–”

“It’s alright, I’ll do it! You go give that number to her!”

“Thanks, Rose.”

Well, maybe Rose wasn’t that bad all the time. Having an overly sweet, polite friend paid off sometimes. Nath needed to save up as much money as he could for new weapons, after all.

Already back in Inkopolis Plaza, it occurred to him he couldn’t quite remember the way to Juleka’s little black-market hideout. Which of these alleys led to it? He looked around for someone to ask – preferably not someone too fresh and intimidating.

Plagg the cat was lying on his little pedestal in the corner, watching him. Huh, maybe he would know.

“Plagg, can I ask you something?” Nath said. “Which way do I go to find Juleka?”

“That way,” Plagg said, raising a finger in a certain direction and then dropping it. “Why, do you want some new abilities or something?”

“I ordered a new beret from her and I have to go pay her.”

“Oof. Her prices are steep, but she’s good. She can even change abilities on gear if you pay her enough. Say your shoes have attack bonuses but you want defence bonuses? She can do it.”

“Wait, really? Thanks for letting me know!”

“No problem, kid.” Plagg yawned. “Say, you’ve been working real hard lately, doing a load of battles and not getting much fun out of it. You deserve something good. Here, take a Super Sea Snail.”

Plagg reached out from behind him and put one straight into Nath’s hands, winking.

“Thank you!”

“Seriously, no problem. I’ve got a surplus of them and the next Splatfest is pretty far off. You need it more than I do. Now go pay for that beret of yours!”

Nath nodded, then ran off down the alley that Plagg had indicated.

Wow! A real Super Sea Snail! How cool was that? At least Plagg was being nice, and not treating him like some kind of newbie. In fact, Nath could just pay Juleka with this instead, right? But then what would he do with Rose’s number?

Well… once he got that beret, he would be fresh, right? And he had deduced earlier that having a girlfriend would make him even fresher… so if he bought the beret with the Super Sea Snail, then used Rose’s number to ask her out… after all, Rose wasn’t that bad, he’d get used to her boundless optimism soon enough… and surely she’d like him more than someone like Juleka…

And there Juleka was, sitting right there in exactly the same spot as she had been before.

“I got your beret,” she said, hanging it on the tip of her finger and waving it in front of his face. “Now where’s the number?”

“Um actually, I have a Super Sea Snail,” Nath said. “Here you go.”

Juleka pushed it away. “I don’t care about the Snail. I want the number.”

“Ugh, fine. I’ve got it. Here you are.”

Juleka took the piece of paper, then looked up at Nath with that fierce one red eye. “Are you telling me you had the number, but you weren’t going to give it to me? You were trying to keep it for yourself?”

“Um…”

“For your insolence, I’m gonna take both the number AND the Sea Snail.”

She snatched it right out of Nath’s hand before he could protest.

“And here’s your lousy beret.”

She chucked it at his feet and turned away, pulling her phone out of her pocket to add Rose’s number.

Nath picked up the beret and put it on his head, feeling somewhat annoyed and guilty at the same time. Dating Rose probably wasn’t a good idea anyway, she was way too annoying to have as anything other than a friend. So was Juleka. Those two would be perfect for each other. Forget about interfering there.

He went and stood in the corner with his arms folded, trying to look fresh, while he sorted out his thoughts. He had this beret now. Getting a girlfriend would be easier. Or boyfriend? He shouldn’t rule that out, not after knowing that Juleka and Rose were into each other. But if he did have a girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever, it would have to be someone he could actually get along with. Someone who understood him. Someone who actually wanted to do battles, just like him. Someone relatable.

A small, hooded figure walked over to Juleka. Great, another dodgy person. These back alleys really were a great place for being murdered.

“Hey Juleka? Can I get another ability reroll on these stupid shoes? I need defence up or Kim won’t stop making fun of me for getting splatted all the time…”

That voice! Why was it so familiar? He could have sworn he had heard it in battle before…

Against the Slaughter Squad…

Of course – it was Alix. No one else was that short. He just hadn’t realized it was her when she had a hoodie on, covering all that bright pink hair.

Hang on. She was talking to Juleka? Juleka knew her? And Juleka knew Nath, too! That was like, one degree of separation from one of the toughest, freshest, most infamous inklings around! Did this mean he could actually speak to her? Should he?

But no… there was no way he could just talk to one of the Slaughter Squad. That was unthinkable!

What about Juleka, though? She wasn’t even an inkling, she was just some sea urchin running a shady business, and clearly she could talk to the Slaughter Squad. So why not Nath? They were fellow inklings, just like him!

But they were so cool. Too cool. Even with this beret, he was nowhere near their level. Better to just let it be.

Well, this felt familiar. Back home in Calamari County, after Mireille and Aurore had left, he had been too shy to talk to anyone else. They probably didn’t want to talk to him anyway. He was used to feeling lonely. At least here in Inkopolis, there was a chance to improve himself. Perhaps he would be popular too someday. In the meantime, it might be a good idea to get this jealousy under control.

Marinette and Adrien’s adventures through Octo Valley continued. They rescued butterflies from several more kettles, venturing further and further into Octarian territory as they did so. The enemies became more difficult to defeat too, using smarter tactics and better armour. It was not easy.

Adrien just kept reminding himself of one thing. Do it for Nino. Everything they went through, it was to save Nino. To make sure he was okay. He didn’t deserve to be kidnapped from home by Octarians and kept away from everyone he cared about for over a month! No – they had to rescue him. They just had to. No matter how tough it was.

Days passed through their adventures, and they finally came to a kettle that looked bigger than the rest, even from the outside. As soon as they entered, something looked different.

The entire kettle was just a large, circular arena with a metallic cube near the back. In the centre was a rather large looking butterfly – though not large enough to have been the Great Butterfly from the top of Inkopolis Tower. As soon as they took a step towards it, a giant tentacle sprouted from the cube and grabbed the butterfly, pulling it inside the cube. The cube itself then rose up in the air and landed with a thud in the centre to reveal a giant purple face on the side of it.

“Uh-oh buckos, that’s the Mighty Octostomp,” Fu warned through the radio. “I believe it’s what the kids are calling a ‘boss level’? Anyway, you’d better defeat it if you want to get that butterfly and rescue your friend. Good luck!”

A boss level? Adrien shuddered involuntarily. He was nowhere near as good as Marinette and he knew it. This was not going to be easy. But he had to do it. He had to do it for Nino.

The Octostomp, giant and looming, began shuffling across the ground towards them, leaving purple ink in its wake. Marinette tried shooting at it but that didn’t achieve anything. The Octostomp suddenly jumped high up in the air, almost directly above them.

“Chat, look out!” Marinette called, grabbing his arm and pulling him aside. The next second, the Octostomp had thudded back down to the ground, landing on its face and splashing purple ink everywhere. A few drops got onto Adrien and he quickly brushed them off. Octarian ink was something he could never get used to.

“Look, it’s stuck! Let’s use that!”

Marinette had already run around to the side of the Octostomp and begun shooting ink at it, leaving long green trails up the wall. Without thinking, Adrien transformed into squid form and swam up the ink until he reached the top of the cube. The tentacle was here, sticking out of a hole. Adrien whacked his Krak-On Splat Roller onto the ground and flung ink at the tentacle as much as he could, hoping that would do something.

After several seconds, the tentacle exploded in a burst of green ink. Yes!

“Ladybug, look! I did it!” Adrien waved back down at her.

“Watch out! It’s going to do something!”

Looking back, he saw that purple ink was now gushing out of the hole where the tentacle had been before, and the entire cube was shaking. He quickly Super Jumped back down to Marinette on the ground, just in time. The Octostomp grew another tentacle and thrust it out of the hole at the same time as jumping back into a position where it could attack from, shedding several of its metallic wall panels as it did so.

“It can’t have unlimited tentacles,” Marinette muttered, frowning. “We’ve got to keep destroying them. It’ll be harder to get up there again though, since some of the panels on the side are missing…”

The Octostomp was shuffling towards them again, seemingly faster this time. It must have been angry. Marinette and Adrien moved away again, avoiding all the purple ink it was leaving. Sure enough, the Octostomp repeated its trick of leaping into the air and faceplanting into the ground.

The side wall of the cube was a lot harder to get up now, considering that half the panels were missing. Marinette inked as much of it as she could, but the Octostomp got up again and started attacking them before Adrien could climb up.

“You distract it, I’ll climb up this time,” Marinette told him.

Yeah, that made sense. Marinette was way better at everything anyway. He already knew that.

The next part of the battle mostly consisted of Adrien trying to stay out of the way of all the toxic ink that seemed to be raining down everywhere. Once the Octostomp was stuck face down in the ground again, Marinette swam up the side and shot at its tentacle until it exploded, then jumped back down to the ground as it once more regrew a tentacle and righted itself. Now it looked really angry.

“I think we’re almost there,” Marinette said, giving Adrien a quick thumbs up before running off to dodge another attack.

Things were getting really difficult now. So many panels had fallen off the side that it would be extremely difficult to swim up there. In that case he would definitely leave that to Marinette. She would be much better at it.

The Octostomp moved faster than ever, spraying so much purple ink around that just staying safe was a real task, let alone trying to move around. Marinette couldn’t even get to the side of the Octostomp when it had gone face down. There was just too much toxic ink everywhere.

“I’ll use my Kraken,” Adrien said.

“What?”

“My Kraken! My Special Weapon! The gauge is filled up, I can use it…”

“Will it work though? This is Octarian ink!”

“Do we have a choice?”

Marinette shook her head. “Alright, fine… but be careful! Wait until it next faceplants, then use your Kraken to swim up its side and destroy the tentacle.”

“Got it.”

In Turf Wars and Ranked Battles, Krakens were a fantastic Special Weapon to have. It turned the inkling into a giant invincible squid for a few seconds, one that could swim through enemy ink at top speed with no repercussions, and could attack brutally and kill in one hit.

Would it work now?

Well, he had to try. For Nino.

The Octostomp leapt up into the air, then smashed itself down face-first onto the floor. Now was his chance.

He activated his Special Weapon and turned into the familiar green Kraken. It felt good to be invincible!

Surging forwards, he swam through the toxic ink like it was nothing. It was easy to get up the side of the Octostomp now that he was so big. And there – there was the tentacle! He leaped forwards and thrust at it, using his killer attack to obliterate it.

And yet… something was not right.

He felt faint. Sick. Dizzy.

Using the Kraken did not usually do that to him. Sure, it was tiring, and usually left him feeling a little out of it. But this? This was something else.

He could feel it now. The toxic ink that he had swam through. It was taking its time, but was very definitely affecting him. Starting to hurt now. Curling around his entire body like a vine, suffocating him.

As if from a distance, he felt himself sliding off the top of the Octostomp as it raised back up in the air. Saw it exploding into pieces. Saw the butterfly gently floating down into the centre of the arena, ready to be rescued. Was that real? He couldn’t even tell, not when his head was spinning so much.

His Kraken transformation was on the verge of ending now, he could feel it. And then would the pain hit full force? It was already bad enough as it was. So bad that his vision was going blurry. So bad that he couldn’t see, he couldn’t hear, he couldn’t think.

The transformation ended. He blacked out.

“Hey Adrien?”

“Yeah?”

“I don’t know if it was a great idea to bring smoothies to this place, it’s so dusty here…”

He can’t help but giggle. Smoothie dates are always the best, no matter where they are. Even if construction work dust gets into everything.

“You know Adrien, I once did something really stupid here.”

“Really? More than usual?”

A loving punch in the arm for a sassy reply like that. At least he can actually make sassy replies around someone like this. Usually, saying what’s on his mind is not an option for him.

“Yeah, more than usual. A lot more than usual. Being stupid is my strong point, and I really hecked up here once…”

Adrien shuffles a little closer. “Really? What was it?”

“Well… I threw something over the side. In the water. And now I wish I didn’t.”

“Why did you do that?”

“Because I’m an idiot! You know I told you about that person who hates me? Well yeah, it’s partly because of this.”

Adrien peers over the edge of the bridge. “Well maybe there’s a way you can fish out whatever you threw in…”

“Really? You think so?”

“Of course! You’re so cool! You can do anything you put your mind to! I wish I had your kind of motivation!”

“Aww, Adrien…”

It’s no surprise when he’s pulled straight into a hug. It happens so often. Having someone who loves him like this, is… nice. So nice.

“Adrien, you know I love you, right?”

“Of course…”

“In that case I’m buying the smoothies next time. And we’re not coming here to drink them!”

He looks up to see the flash of playfulness in those beautiful, deep, grey eyes. It melts his heart.

“Adrien? Adrien! Oh thank goodness, you’re coming round… are you okay? Please tell me you’re okay!”

Eyes…

He opened his own eyes to see a pair staring right back at him, wide in fear.

But no… those were not his beloved’s grey eyes. These were bright blue eyes.

“You’re awake! Oh, Adrien! You had me worried there!”

Oh yes, of course. It was Marinette. She leaned down and hugged him.

Wait, where was he? What was going on? His brain was still filled with the remains of memories, things he must have been dreaming about while unconscious. Now he was lying on the floor in the middle of the arena. Once Marinette had let go of him, he saw that she was holding the butterfly.

“What happened?” he asked, his voice coming out as a croak.

“You used your Kraken to defeat the Octostomp, but then you fainted,” she replied. “That Octarian ink must have done a number on you. You’ve been out for five minutes. But at least you’re okay! Wait, you’re okay, right?”

He nodded, sitting up. “Yeah, I’m okay. Don’t worry.”

“Phew, I’m glad to hear that.”

“And so am I!” Captain Fu said through the radio. “I’d suggest only using your Kraken in emergency situations if it’s gonna knock you out like that. And now that you’ve got that butterfly, you’d better get out of there and back here.”

“Yeah, let’s go,” Marinette said. She stood up and then grabbed Adrien’s hand and pulled him up too. He still felt a little dizzy, but it was going away. Good.

“How long do you think it’ll take before we find Nino?” he asked.

“I have no idea.”

“I miss home.”

“Really? It’s only been a few days!”

“I know…”

Marinette hugged him again. “Don’t worry, we’ll do this as quickly as possible. You’re doing such a great job so far. I could never have done this without your help.”

That made him feel a lot better. He followed as Marinette climbed out of the kettle, over to Fu’s shack, and gave him the butterfly.

Missing home? That wasn’t exactly right. It wasn’t his house he missed, or his strict father, or even the battles he used to take part in. It was a certain person he missed. Nino, obviously, but someone else. Someone who hadn’t gone missing. Someone who he had shared smoothies with on Hammerhead Bridge one day…

I’ve been taking a lot of screenshots as I’ve played through Splatoon 2, but I’ve neglected to upload them because it’s difficult to stop playing long enough to do so (whoops). However, I’m going to do so now in order to get caught up, and hopefully be better about posting screencaps of cool things in the future.

So, first, as per usual, the game starts off with a broadcast. In Splatoon, the Squid Sisters were the ones who always handled the broadcasts. But now, in the sequel---and I have little doubt this has a lot to do with the story mode, as well as just wanting to introduce new characters (and it wouldn’t surprise me if Marina being Octarian played into it), the broadcasts are handled by a pop duo known as Off the Hook, starring Pearl and Marina.

Anyway, the introductory broadcast to the game introduces the single-player campaign, of course, and I love how Pearl references the fact that the Octarians stealing the Great Zapfish is the exact same plot from the first game’s single-player campaign. However . . .

. . . there is a twist this time around, since Callie is “missing” as well. Hmmm . . .

Pearl gets over it pretty quickly, though, lmao. (And really, the fact that Pearl doesn’t care about the Great Zapfish is, I feel, another clue that Inkopolis doesn’t necessarily need it, at least not more than the Octarians might . . .)

Once the broadcast ends, the game decides to show you all the different features of Inkopolis Square, just in case you’re not bright enough to explore the place yourself. In so doing, it introduces the new Salmon Run part of the game . . .

I love how they keep hammering home that this is sketchy and shady and not that great, hahaha. That said, I get the feeling that the Salmonids, like the Octarians, are more victims than villains, despite how they’re being painted. I especially feel that way in this case, since we’re stealing their eggs for some sketchy dude’s profit. :/ Man . . .

Rude af. I can’t believe I have to already have a job and work experience to get a job to get work experience in Splatoon 2 as well. Art imitates life.

When you have more experience you can work, though, and like I said, I really love how they keep hammering home that this is not a good job, you are making a poor life choice.

Inklings can’t swim, though. Tf are you trying to say to me?

Anyway, after I did Salmon Run a couple of times, I went and played some (more) multiplayer, and . . .

I tried, OK. I did my best. I have no regrets. (Especially since I scored more points than anyone on the winning team, because remember: The winning team gets an extra 1000 points. The highest score anyone on the winning team had before the bonus was 729. I was better than that. Sadly, with two teammates disconnecting partway trhough the match, there was not a whole lot I could do . . .)

tfw you win a match by .3%.

And once again, I was the highest scoring person on my team, even if the highest scorer on the losing team had a slightly better score than I did. (Only slightly, though.) I’m still not as consistently good as I was in the first game, but I’m getting there. Once I have better gear / better weapons, I’m sure I’ll be back on top form, especially once I get used to all the new maps. (Though they better add Kelp Dome in an update at some point or so help me . . .)

Anyway, it soon became time for some story mode / single-player campaign playthrough, and once I realized I could unlock Hero Dualies this way, that’s all I’ve been doing. That said . . .

THERE SHE IS---THE BEST GIRL, THE SUPERIOR SQUID SISTER, MY LOVELY MARIE. ♥

When you go to talk to her, Marie explains about how she wants to go get the Great Zapfish back from the Octarians after they stole it, but that she can’t leave her post because that would mean leaving it defenseless, and so she needs someone else to go get it back and thinks you’d be perfect for the job. This really leads me to believe that Marie thinks that the Octarians kidnapped Callie as well as the Great Zapfish. Of course, I now think that Callie took the Great Zapfish when she defected to the Octarians, but Marie doesn’t seem to know / realize that’s what happened.

UNFORTUNATELY, despite it being a “request”, you don’t have the option to say no. You have to play through the level with the assigned weapon at least once. I already complained about this enough yesterday, so I won’t do it again, but god, I hate it so much, particularly since it means I have to play through most levels twice since you have to clear every level with your desired Hero weapon in order to unlock it for multiplayer, and I want the Hero Dualies. Ugh.

This is a necessity, it’s something (and anyone she can recruit to help) must due because Inkopolis (supposedly) needs it. But she wants to find Callie, and she wants to find Callie even more than the Great Zapfish. Callie means that much to her. Callie is her best friend. Biologically, Callie might be her cousin, but in her heart, Callie is her sister. And something tells me she’s going to be in for a lot of emotional pain when she learns the truth . . . poor, poor Marie. ;__;

Anyway, she goes on to explain about how she’s Agent 2 and Callie was Agent 1, and---

OH, so THAT’S the excuse for why your inkling from the first game is just mysteriously out of the picture, haha. I mean, I guess there’s still a chance that Callie hasn’t defected. Maybe she’s telling Marie to leave because she’s worried Marie will get hurt, or maybe she was kidnapped and is now brainwashed. Her eyes are red in that icon, after all (but so are the Octolings’, so that could just be because of some fancy goggles). Either way, that’s very obviously Callie, and if she’s helping the Octarians decorate their bases, something tells me she isn’t here unwillingly. Right now, I’m sticking by the theory that she is the one who stole the Great Zapfish (and all the other Zapfish) for the benefit of the Octarians, and that she has defected willingly because she has come to see that they aren’t all evil and that peace should be made between the two races. (Though why she isn’t working to actually make that peace doesn’t make sense. You’d think she’d come forward and talk to Marie (and Cap’n Cuttlefish) about it, rather than letting Marie think she had been kidnapped and is in serious danger, but . . . well. The plot has to happen some way, I guess.)

So guys here’s the news, this is gonna be under the usual plus ”splatoon”and “splatoon community issues” tags so keep an eye out for that. There have been a nice amount of fuckheads seeing to bring division into the lives of many people who don’t want it. These people have been bringing real life issues surrounding politics and the likes to silence others so now I’m going to analyze what’s been said. Let’s start with the most popular case because this one has already caused a big uproar AND thanks to @littlerubyrue I have extra info on obsessive hatred for this person. @cafe-cardamari is a part of @tamarinfrog‘s blogs and she very large freelance artist. They have been large in the splatoon community as well as making noteworthy art that has been featured before on the @splatoonus blog which is the official splatoon blog for the US.

The accusations for this blog are: Pedophillia, stereotyping

Let’s start with the first thing shown above: this is one of the concepts this artist provided. The same with the second picture shown. It’s clearly showing the character in a stereotypical light. Shirt open, sexy poses, etc. seems damning right? There is a post from 2 days ago saying that she knows the character is 1 dimensional, whether this is before confrontation or not I’m not sure but my friend had told me that apparently this character had just been created. After some back and forth we determined that while the portrayal my seem racist to some, it has no ill will towards anyone. And while it can be a romanticized portrayal it is not racist in anyway as main media such as spanish music sung by artist such as Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias,. however spectrum did say she could very much help herself by taking reliable sources of festivities, culture and even some hardships if in these regions she may want to represent. Spectrum has taken classes and her teacher was nice enough to share the experiences her trip to Latin America. To hear it from another’s lips is great but the best way to gather info is experiencing it firsthand. If Tammy is willing to and even has the money, I would recommend she go there with family or friends the first visit to get a feel for it.

So let’s get to the first round of messages: Tammy is elaborating on her things and then it hits. Deviously-renegade reposted with an angry post about this about her issues on speaking spanish and the stereotypes get on her nerves etc. Now deconstructing the post they are going on about the stereotypes in a cartoon squid person. So to get this straight when a person makes something that essentially does show part of your culture even if it is a common thing seen because that’s also what is seen in your media culture you get mad because of a personal experience. If anything I think you're mad at the wrong thing. Tammy drew this sure but she has nothing to do with making people make fun of you for your language. And that’s assuming it’s your actual culture which I’m assuming since you are getting mad at it, you're latino and not from spain. If he likes to dance then he probalby would want to dance a variety of those mentioned dances depending on the culture he absorbed. People will absorb things they see if it interest them. And you need to fuck off with that “but das cultural appropriation!” no think is exclusive to one race which like the 96 genders is a social construct but one is real and the other is a recent trend. Your race has nothing to do with what you can do. Some people make fun of it but there are those who want to learn, but hey clearly bitching that people are touching your stuff works wonders apparently. You even touched on the fact the n on “senoritas” looks different despite accurate punctuation. Great end comment.

Now we get into splatoon-discourse’s comment. This is where unnecessary hate really starts. This person is riding off the first comment. look at the tone of the writing. Sarcastic and arrogance. They too believe this is a portrayal of their race. It is a character with features from the culture if you don’t like it fine but that attitude is not one of bluntness. You are on your high horse shitting on someone for this. Even if you offer criticism there is a way to say it. “This has stereotypes, fix your shit.” Even with latino roots, you have a sense of entitlement too big for your pants. Nothing should be without criticism not even Tammy but you do all this and even try to guilt trip the person. You know if that person cares they will feel bad. So the question is do you care? I think the answer is obvious that you don’t.

This next one is just repeating what their friend is saying, making a random comment about squid nipples (which IS weird but its her shit, I don’t care) and a typical sjw comment on “cis”, heterosexual males. nothing too noteworthy from this comment other then someone hoping on to post random thoughts just to talk shit.

This is found on splatoon-discourse’s page someone had voice out that this is wrong because of the fact this speaks not for all people which they din’t, i agree this is bulllshit that they make it sound like Tammy is tearing down a culture even if it’s not a 100 percent accurate portrayal of a person from down south. It can be seen as a stereotyped based character by some people although it also depends on how a sentence is phrased. If you know saying things a certain way will influence the answer, you’ll likely do it if you want results. Admittedly this Tamarinfrog SHOULD have had the balls to say “fuck off” because these people could have been more blunt with what they wanted to change, and have no need to make her feel bad if she works as an artist that takes sources when she can get them. The tone is so snooty, you could have easily imagined a snooty rich valley girl from a high school movie having saying the same thing no matter where you come from. I have proof anyways that these people do this to restrict and bring hatred and discrimination and had no good will towards this person. But if you want my advice, Tamarinfrog should grow some balls and block these people. These people are the type to ruin others for an agenda and they don’t care about your feelings. Only thiers. That’s the only reason why they would try to make a low blow. There are ways to express tactfulness and be blunt without the urge to hit such a low blow. To make this clear. Criticism is good. Being an arrogant cunt is not. But I do think Tammy is an adult and can handle herself fine. Adults can make the decision whether or not they seek help on an emotional level. I’m sure she found comfort herself after the event happened and I’mm sure people cheered them up afterwards.

I will cover the part of this reply shown before I stop with this part. This person retaliates with you don’t represent everyone else either. Valid point. BUt this “I’ve talked to other people” so I have some questions on that myself. Who are they? Have you phrased this as neutrally as possible? And how biased were they already against this person? You’d think I’d be talking in absurdities but I know how groupthink works. THey gather like minded people and these people seem awfully proud of being from Latin America to the point that’s all that matters. And you have also talked with people who are non-latino. So this isn’t a manner of who is latino that think this is ok vs who is not to you. It’s Everyone who agrees with you vs latinos who disagree with you. And the people who agree with you are probably on your side because they take up deluded extremist values on the matter or don't know what’s going on and look at it first glace to class it racist.
