Happy life in heaven
This is part of one au that @seramilla /@contrivedchaos birthed from the ask box. Carmilla and her daughters are happy winners in heaven. Vaggie got hurt bad and needs physical therapy and maybe a mother and sisters.
Emily focused in on Carmilla and rushed over, a bounce in her step.
“‘Milla!” Emily cheered before hugging the angel's side.
Carmilla stood tall amongst the other winners, black and white hair pulled into a bun wearing a black off the shoulder top and white leggings and black pointe shoes. She gave Emily a one armed hug and kissed her head.
“Hola, nina, what do you need,” Carmilla asked. With her were her two daughters Odette and Clara. Odette wore a white button up over her leggings and long sleeved top. Clara had a red crop top and cargo pants over her leggings.
“Ok, so one of heaven defenders got really hurt. She needs physical therapy and I was hoping you could teach her how to dance. She's getting so depressed doing the normal physical therapy exercises and,” Emily started to ramble.
“Have her met us at the dance studio at three. We're there every weekday. Do you know what she should wear or?” Carmilla asked, already pulling out the list for the required clothes.
“I got it! Thank you so much! I'll let her know,” Emily gave her one more squeeze before flying off.
At 2:30 Vaggie was looking at the door of the dance studio. She didn't know why she agreed to take the dance lessons, she could barely walk without a cane, therapy has gotten her nowhere but Emily's puppy dog eyes made her melt.
She took a deep breath and hobbled in on her cane. The inside was warm, old worn wood floors, walls with dents from various posters and decorations being posted and taken off.
“Oh hey! You must be Vaggie,” Clara bounced up to her, “I'm Clara, come on, I'll show you the studio.”
Clara took her hand and brought her to the elevator. It was worn down and had a gate as a door.
“I never seen a place this worn down in heaven before,” Vaggie mentioned as the elevator went up and she saw the old bricks of the shaft.
“Well, it's designed after the studio we started dancing at when we were alive. When mama mentioned wanting to give lessons, the studio took to the appearance of our memories of this studio,” Clara explained. The elevator shifted before stopping. Clara dragged her again to the studio room.
It was well kept and clean but worn down like the rest. The shine had been buffed off the bars that lined the room and some mirrors had been discolored. Off to the side was Odette and Carmilla stretching.
“Mama! Vaggie's here!” Clara called.
“Can you bring her to the benches, mija, I'm going grab her shoes,” Carmilla went to the far end and pick up a box while Clara sat Vaggie down on the work bench. She traced the grain and words that had been carved in it.
“Ok, chiquita, this is how you tie ballet flats, you cross them here,” Carmilla started as she started to tie the shoes.
“Si habla Espanol, “ Vaggie pointed out.
“¿Quieres que hablemos español durante la lección?” Carmilla asked as she helped Vaggie to her feet and led her to the bar where her daughters were stretching.
“No, we can continue in English,” Vaggie didn't want to mention her Spanish had gotten rusty over the years.
“Fair, now let's start with stretching, try and touch your toes,” Carmilla instructed. She led Vaggie threw the stretches and the basics before it was time for dinner and the end of the lesson.
“Adios, Vaggie,” Carmilla said. Her heart tugged in the direction Vaggie was walking, an unspoken invite to dinner on her lips.
Each day for a week went similar, Vaggie could walk by herself for a good hour now, which made her happy.
“Chiquita,” Carmilla said as she held the sleeve of the tshirt Vaggie was wearing. It had bad sweat stains on it.
“It's hard doing laundry by myself. I'll wash it soon, I promise,” Vaggie blushed and turned away.
“Shouldn't you have someone helping you?” Carmilla's grip tightened. Clara and Odette started to pack their stuff despite being the beginning of practice.
“Well, a guy comes every day but, I can do fine on my own,” Vaggie tried. She stumbled when Carmilla yanked the shirt and started to drag her to the elevator. “Where are we going?”
“Your place,” Carmilla's clipped her words. Vaggie understood that there was no room for argument with that tone. Vaggie hung her head in shame when they arrived. Trash bags were full of takeout containers too heavy for her to put in the trashcan, clothes in a pile by her bed, some lightbulbs had burned out.
Carmilla twitched.
“Mama, we got the kitchen,” Clara supplied.
“It's -” Vaggie was about to protest but the look Carmilla sent her made her shut up. The three started to work on cleaning the small apartment, Carmilla had the clothes in a bag over her shoulder.
“We can wash these at our house, someone needs a shower,” Carmilla ordered. Vaggie opened her mouth to protest but ended up nodding.
“Do you have a shower seat?” She ended up asking.
“Of course, mij- chiquita,” Carmilla coughed at her slipup. No one mentioned it.
Carmilla's house was bright and airy with a large outdoor garden in the middle. Vaggie had to admit the shower felt amazing and being in clean pajamas was so nice.
When she was done, Vaggie went to the kitchen where Carmilla and Clara were starting dinner.
“Chiquita, think you can set the table?” Carmilla asked.
“Plates and silverware are in the cabinet,” Clara pointed to an antique cabinet where plates were on display. Vaggie easily set the table and Odette came in to say the clothes were in the wash.
“You stained some stuff bad, I used half the bottle of pretreat and I'm not sure if it got it all out,” Odette said.
“Oh well, we'll just get her new clothes to replace them,” Carmilla put a large bowl of chili on the table as Clara put some arepas down. They waited till everything was set and Carmilla took her first plate before they got there's. Every time Vaggie turned away, her plate was refilled. She knew better to leave any on her plate and tried fighting off the three sets of hands determined to put more on her plate.
“I'm full, para! I'm full!” Vaggie yelled, turning her plate over.
“Too full for churros?” Carmilla asked. Vaggie paused, it was a trap and she knew it. They weren't done, desert wouldn't be brought out yet, but if she said yes then she wouldn't get churros, if she said no then they'll put more food on her plate.
“The food needs to settle,” Vaggie tried. It seemed like the right answer as they backed off. After awhile, the churros were brought out and they ate them while watching the TV. Vaggie didn't know when she fell asleep but when she woke up, she was in a bed with a quilt, the morning sun shining threw the window and the smell of pancakes in the air.
“Mijas! Breakfast!” Carmilla's voice rang threw the house. Vaggie groaned as she got up and put on a random outfit. It was a red blouse with a knee length skirt she didn't remember owning.
“Can chiquitas have breakfast too or is it only for mijas?” Vaggie joked when she came in, neither daughter was there yet.
“I think I have enough pancakes for a chiquita,” Carmilla rubbed Vaggie's head. She hesitated a moment before kissing it, “thou you might be able to take their portions soon.”
Carmilla waited a moment before sighing, “Clara! Odette! Breakfast!”
Vaggie flinched and she heard two sets of feet run over.
“We're here, mama!” Clara said, she was putting on her shirt, hair undone. Odette held up her pants with one hand, toothbrush in her mouth.
“Finally, and here I was starting to think we were going to have to eat this ourselves,” Carmilla smiled as they all sat down.
Vaggie tried to go home but each day for months she found herself eating at their table, sleeping in their bed and battling the two for their shower.
“Mama! Look! I finally did it!” Vaggie called over. She could finally do a standing split.
Clara and Odette had their jaws on the floor as Carmilla got tears in her eyes.
“Perfecto, eso es Perfecto,” Carmilla paused before smiling, “mija.”
Vaggie suddenly realized she called Carmilla mama and tried to take it back but that was hard when she was pulled into a backbreaking hug.

Hola Hola todos!! Gracie here again! In a random burst of motivation, I thought what would Lightning McQueen look like if he was in FNAF and boom this was created! I based Lightning's designs on the IRL Lightning McQueen animatronic from Disney world in Hollywood Studios and the withered animatronics from FNAF 2 and Security Breach Ruin.
I made two designs for Lightning, the first one being if he was in proper working condition and the second being if he was left to rot and withered for many years. You guys could let me know which one is your favorite!
Little lore about FNAF universe Lightning:
* Lightning McQueen is an animatronic race car who loves children.
* He is located in Disneyland California Adventure in Cars Land along with his best friend Tow Mater and his protege Cruz Ramirez.
* He is known to do meet-and-greets in front of his girlfriend's office at the Cozy Cone Motel.
* He tends to take children on little joyrides around a small race track where other children and guests can race him in their own go-karts. Of course, he doesn't go to his full max speed for safety regulations, but he still loves the thrill and the screams of joy of his guests.
* Lightning is equipped with a real V8 hybrid engine and has the ability to drive around on his own. And he can talk with a voice box built inside. He also has a jaw and teeth to properly speak. Lightning instead of needing to drink gas like in his movies, he instead is electric. He has an electric station for him to be charged at night when the park closes. He regularly gets maintenance checkups and paint job touches. Around holidays or special occasions, Disney's cast members give him and Mater new paint jobs. His eyes is a computer windshield with cameras that give Lightning the ability to see like in the films.
Lore about Withered Lightning:
* After many years without incidents, Lightning slowly becomes unnaturally aggressive and easily angry with guests. To the point, where cast members have to constantly supervise him, in case he becomes aggressive and has to be contained.
* Unfortunately, there have been incidents where Lightning has stepped on a father's feet intentionally after the father disregarded him and disrespected his son. The cast members have become concerned that Lightning might react worse and intentionally try to run someone over. They knew that it was unnatural for Lightning, since Lightning was programmed to be cool and relaxed.
* Several technicians had to come and check on Lightning, in hopes of finding out what was causing Lightning's radical behavior. But unfortunately, they couldn't find an answer or reason.
* After much debate, the Disney higher-ups decided to take Lightning away from the public eye and to be replaced by a remote controlled drive-around life-sized robot version of Lightning. When Lightning found out, he was furious. He nearly attacked a nearby cast member before he was shut down. Lightning was unfortunately scraped and taken apart for parts to be put on a newer animatronic version of Lightning.
* Lightning was locked away in a Disney parts warehouse far away from the parks where other animatronics don't work anymore. He hasn't been turned on, since...until now...
And that is it so far, I haven't really come up with Lightning's full fnaf lore, because I don't want to imagine him attacking and unliving security guards... I will leave it up to the audience to see what could be the reason why Lightning became aggressive in the first place! But that is all for now and I'll see y'all later! Adios!

Mountain Cottage is a project designed by HOLA Design studio. Tranquility, proximity to nature and idyllic views – that’s what investors needed, when they were looking for a place to respite from urban hustle. Everything what they had been looking for, they found in Kluszkowce, a small village in southern Poland.
The investors bought a plot situated on a slope overlooking the lake, mountains and two medieval castles. They took advantage of the potential of this place and built small cottage located on the shore of an artificial Czorsztyn lake. The inhabitants of this 160 sqm house and the authors of the interior design project are a couple of architects, owners of HOLA Design studio from Poland: Monika and Adam Bronikowscy.
In this project the most important thing for the owners were the surroundings. The building was designed and set up in a way to emphasize this feat. They wanted to have breathtaking views. It was equally important for them to integrate the cottage in the nearby landscape. Designers wanted to create a modern version of the mountain chalet. Hence the use of colors and materials corresponding to the climate, tradition and history of this place. The main source of inspiration was nature, the second – folk art. The challenge was to combine traditional folk motifs with modern design.
The simple shape of the house, its dark color and used materials refer to the traditional local pastoral houses. One hundred meters from the house is a museum with buildings from the nineteenth century which have been moved from the bottom of a lake when it was created. The house refers to the tradition but has a modern form, and technical solutions. Characteristic gable roof and front wall were covered with aspen chips – traditional technology from north of Poland. In the end all this elements were painted in black. The façade smoothly passes from the roof to the wall. In the rain water flows from the top to the ground without gutters. Modern porch and entrance door made of light wood, decorated with ornaments referring to the local tradition, are distinctive features. There is no fence around the backyard not to close the space and spoil the view.
The interior of the house and its location on the site were matched to the view. Wall of the house from the lake is fully glazed – in contrast to the closed facade on the slope side. Two sliding windows allow for the opening half of the wall and links the interior to the terrace. When it gets warm and sunny the hosts move the glass walls and invites nature inward. But even with closed windows the interior fuses with the nature surrounding the house.
The interior of the house is the living room with kitchen and dining room, two bathrooms and a wardrobe on the ground floor, two kids’ rooms and bedroom on the attic and guest room, technical room and toilet in the basement. The interior is not only based on local tradition, but also uses local materials. Being inside, it is hard to forget that we are in the mountains. There is a forest-like scent of wooden boards, that walls and ceilings are lined in all rooms. They have been brushed to make them look older. Most of them have a hint of honey, but some of them have been painted black to break the rustic style and give it a more modern character. The Tatra tradition was also modernized by the concrete floor painted in gray and heated. The same color and materials appear in the whole interior, which guarantees consistency and coherence. Most of the furniture and lamps were designed by the owners themselves (except chairs and a table in the dining room), and made by a local carpenter. To emphasize the culture of this place, on furniture, doors and stairs there are carved folk motifs from Podhale.
The open space on the ground floor consists of living room, dining room and kitchen. From the dining room we have a view of the ruins of the castle. The Swing Iron Uno from Kare Design geometry lamp is ideally suited to this mountainous landscape. Kitchen cabinets are entirely wooden, decorated with subtle folk engraving. Kitchen wall is decorated with cut steel pattern flower symbolizing life. It is a folk character associated with the region. The dining table from the Kare Design brand has a multicolored top and carved legs. Around the table there are the Masters chairs designed by Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitllet for the Kartell brand.
In the day zone there is a large, comfortable sofa. The fireplace gives the interior a sense of cosiness. From here, there is a wonderful panorama, which is an invitation to relax and rest. The sofa and the enormity lamps were made-to-order by architects. The wooden table was made by a local carpenter, it is a trunk from the center of the tree, so it is light and can be moved even by children. Upstairs there is a master bedroom and two children’s rooms. The adult bedroom is an intimate corner where only a bed and two chests of drawers are located. There is an idyllic simplicity in it – floral ornaments on the pillows, furniture according to the design of the hosts and the styling of the upholstered bed. When the owners fall asleep, they can admire the lake outside the window. Children’s rooms are spacious, have mezzanines, climbing walls, ropes and swings. The queen of the bathroom is the black freestanding Alessio bath from ArtSpa. A washbasin is also black. Ceramics were supplemented with retro-style black-washed copper fittings. It shines on the background of a glazed blue plate with a rough texture. Wooden carpentry and furniture made by the carpenter give the bathroom a unique forest scent, creating a small home spa.
Mountain Cottage project by HOLA Design was awarded the prestigious A’Design Awards and was shortlisted at the International Design & Architecture Awards 2017, as well as World in Architecture News (WAN Awards 2017).

“Newly designed and perfected white glazed stoneware incense burners,” Silas said, opening the carefully packaged pottery he’d finished firing in the kiln yesterday and showing them to his sister Maggie and her wife Vivi. Their shop—The Purple Lotus—was quiet as they’d just opened a few minutes ago, and Maggie said she was expecting plenty of customers since rain was on the forecast and that strayed tourists away from the beach and towards the shopping promenade.
“These are gorgeous!” Vivi enthused, picking up a burner and examining it. “Are you going to let us pay you the full commission this batch?” she asked, and Silas chuckled and shook his head, waving a hand towards her.
“Just the regular merchant commission.”
“But you’re family—“ Maggie whined.
“Those cost a lot so they’ll bring in a good chunk of money for you and you know the studio brings in enough money for me. I could fight you about paying me commission at all, but—“
“You’d lose that fight,” Vivi said, pointing a stern finger in his direction. The bell of the shop door rang and Silas turned around and smiled when he saw the woman—Savannah as he’d recently learned her name—walking over to start collecting incense. He’d met her a few times at the shop and learned from Maggie that Savannah was quite the regular. Of the times Silas had spoken to her, she was always so funny and charming that he couldn’t help but linger his eyes on her for a moment before he returned to unpacking his pottery onto the counter with Vivi.
“Hola Savannah!” Maggie enthused, striding over to her at the incense, her long floral kimono draping behind her. “Oooh, stocking up on sandalwood? You know, my brother just dropped off the loveliest new incense burners he made if you want to take a look, he’s unpacking them at the counter.” Silas picked his head up when he overheard her mention him and gave her and Savannah a little wave.

[chuckles] just wanted to give you a heads up that i went back to the studio to finish glazing a batch of vases. i’m gonna go with the celadon glaze like you suggested; you always seem to know what i’m thinking before i get there myself. or maybe it’s just my old age. [laughs] oh, and i’ve made reservations for us for dinner tonight, so wear somethin’ nice. i’ll come back around to your place around seven thirty after i finish up this vases. te amo, corazón. hasta luego
🥴 : a drunk voicemail

[silas]: [laughs] yeah well—her voicemail.
[sam]: oi, savannah, your lad is nice and liquored up—

[chuckles] alright, i stepped outside of the bar. you came up in conversation and then i just really wanted to talk to you, but i see the time now and i’m sure you’re sleeping. i’m gonna be a fuckin’ wreck tomorrow i’m sure. i think scott and i finished off a whole bottle of bourbon. no doubt in my mind i’ll be paying for that when i wake up—oh, do we have all those young coconuts still? whatever—anyway. i hope you’re havin’ sweet dreams, and i can’t wait to see you tomorrow. until then, gorgeous. buenas noches.
😃 : a happy voicemail
[silas]: mornin’ darlin’. i was hopin’ to catch you in between classes. i just got off the phone with that woman from the Honolulu Museum of Art, and they’d like to have me do an exhibition with other local artists in Hawaii. i don’t think i’d have even made the move to submit my work if it weren’t for you—and maybe i should’ve waited to tell you in person but i’m just so over the moon. i can’t wait to start sketching some new designs for it. speaking of—you should come by the studio after you’re done teaching. i’m goin’ to need my muse if i’m trying to make something extraordinary for the exhibit. give me a text or a call when you get this, and te amo, corazón.

Here’s a random, unpolished oneshot I wrote on a whim. Features the alebrije character Pizzicato, whom you’ll recognize if you’ve seen some of my other works.
In which Héctor winds up with an unfortunate nickname, and Gustavo learns why you don’t make comments about Héctor’s wife.
(Warning for some inappropriate comments from some of the characters.)
---~~~---
Héctor paused to lean his head against the cool metal handrail again, trying in vain to relieve the burning ache in his head. Shutting his eyes to block out the overcast sky ahead, he gripped the rail a moment longer, grateful they had actually bothered to install one on these stairs. (It was a rarity to have railings of any sort in the Land of the Dead, when one couldn't really die from a fall, but some buildings did have them, whether out of newly-dead contractors building them out of habit or from the insistence of people sticking to tradition.) After a minute, he heard a sleepy chirp from the tiny bat alebrije hanging off the back of his collar, and pulled himself away, forcing himself up a few more stairs.
He'd stop drinking one of these days, he promised himself. When he found a reason to quit, anyway.
Memories from the night before swam indistinctly in his mind as he continued to mount the stairs. He'd been working in the arts district, as usual, and had taken up some local musicians on an offer for drinking. While music was something he tried to avoid these days, the musicians had seemed friendly enough, and as much as he loved Pizzicato, talking with an alebrije tended to get a bit one-sided at times. Pizzicato hadn't exactly been thrilled with his joining them, he recalled, but the temptation of just... normal human interaction had been too strong to resist.
Might've been nice if the cerveza and tequila hadn't been too hard to resist, though.
Shaking his head (and then regretting it a second later when the world tipped), Héctor finally reached the top of the stairs, practically collapsing through the open window. Pizzicato gave a sleepy squeak in protest before snuggling back into his collar—he wasn't entirely sure why she was like that, other than that it probably had something to do with whatever happened the night prior. Leading him home while he was in a drunken daze, maybe.
"I was half-tempted to pull the stairs back up on you," Ceci muttered around the pins she held in her teeth. She didn't look up from her work, focused entirely on the dress hung on the mannequin before her. "What were you doing, sightseeing?"
"Buenas dias to you too," Héctor grumbled, pulling himself up to his feet and brushing off his hopelessly dirty jacket.
Ceci did give him a look, then, eying him over her shoulder. "Buenas tardes."
"Buenas tar... oh." He scratched the back of his head, blinking blearily. "Sorry. Lost track of time."
"Hopefully you didn't lose track of that delivery I sent you off with," she went on, resuming work on the dress.
"Oh, no no no, that's... that's all taken care of." Rubbing his hand over his eye sockets, he strained to remember yesterday. That memory was a bit clearer, at least—he definitely remembered the weird look the customer gave him when he handed him the package, and the lack of a tip. "I got it to them, no worries."
"Good."
He stood there awkwardly, hand on his wrist, as Ceci continued to work on the dress in relative silence (other than the record player running in the background—Héctor wasn't really paying attention to what it was playing, only grateful that it wasn't another de la Cruz album). Briefly he wondered if she'd forgotten he was there, and he pointed his finger to speak.
"If you're looking for another job," she began—Héctor flinched, the sudden volume sending a spike of pain through his head—"the dancers left a mess out in the gallery after their practice last night. The art crew won't clean it because they say it's not their mess, but they're still whining about the glitter getting into their paints." She paused. "And on the materials," she added, brushing something shimmering from the hem of the dress.
"Ah, g-gracias," Héctor stammered, passing through the designer's workshop and out into the main studio. At once he was greeted with the familiar sight of the hastily set-up barriers separating the work spaces of different artists. Many of them were lined with various paintings and sketches, but as Ceci had said, some of them were dusted in glitter. Frowning, he stepped up to one painting of a xolo dog, swiping his finger across the canvas to remove a few flecks of glitter... and yelped when some of the gray pigment came off with it, smearing on the painting. With a hasty glance aside, he wiped his hand off on the inside of his coat and speedily walked away, looking in the opposite direction of the painting.
"Okay, okay, glitter, glitter..." Head turned downward, he found scatterings of the stuff on the floor, and then looked up again. "Ah... I need a... uh... mop? No, no... broom? Dustpan?" He glanced over his shoulder, hoping Pizzicato might be of some use, but only heard a high-pitched snoring. Cute, but not helpful at the moment. Sighing, he looked to the walls of the studio, hoping one of the janitors may have left their equipment there, but no luck—only rows of outlandish costumes. Ugh... where was the janitor's closet, again?
Héctor poked his head into the entrance to one of the partitions, raising a finger and opening his mouth to ask, only to find several very, very tired artists and a skeleton posing nude for them. Clapping his hand over his eye sockets, he stumbled away. "Okay, okay, bad idea, do not ask the artists," he muttered, uncovering his face just in time to dodge another artist hurrying by with a large canvas. Looking around to make sure he wasn't about to collide with anyone else, he continued his aimless journey through the cluttered gallery. "Ask the... uh..."
The sound of laughter caught his metaphorical ears, and Héctor looked toward the far end of the studio, by the glass windows. They were still out of sight, but he was pretty sure he knew who was hanging out there.
His suspicions were confirmed by the sound of a trombone making a long, drawn-out note, followed by more laughter. "Right... ask... the musicians," he said, nodding to himself as he approached them.
As they came into sight, one of them spotted him and hastily shushed the others. That was... a little weird, but he was honestly too tired to care right now. He would've given them a sharp whistle to catch their attention, but was afraid of the noise only worsening his headache, and besides, they seemed to all be looking at him anyway. "Hola," he said, waving casually with one hand as he rubbed his head in the other.
"Ey, Héctor!" one of the violinists—what was his name, Héctor knew his name... Gustavo, that was it—said with a grin. "You doin' okay there?"
"Ehh... I've been better," Héctor said, making an effort to straighten his stance. It took a bit more effort than usual, but with the condition of his bones, what didn't these days? "Just... a bit too much to drink last night, I think."
"We could tell!" One of the musicians began to snicker, only to be elbowed in the ribs by another.
Héctor blinked. "Right. I just needed to ask a favor—"
"A favor?" one of the other violinists asked, while a few of her peers chuckled next to her. The noise seemed to be bugging Pizzicato, who stirred behind him, whining.
"Yes?" His bewilderment seemed to prompt a few more laughs that the musicians tried to cover. "Is... something funny about that?" he asked, briefly looking over his shoulder and wondering if his alebrije was doing something behind him to prompt the laughter.
"No, no," Gustavo said, waving his head. "Go on, what favor do you need?"
"I... just need someone to show me where the supply closet is. Ceci—"
The group immediately burst into laughter, the trombonist accompanying it with ridiculous playing. The sound was like a dagger being driven into his skull, and he held his hands over his head. "Ay, stop it!" he cried, staring at them in utter confusion. "What's so funny?!"
Finally Pizzicato seemed to be roused from her slumber, and he felt her little claws digging into his wig as she climbed up to the top of his head, squeaking in displeasure.
"Who do you want to meet in the closet, eh?" one of the musicians jeered.
"¿Qué?" Héctor blurted. He couldn't make any sense of what they were talking about. Whatever it was, Pizzicato seemed upset by it, letting out a growl, but he couldn't make heads or tails of it. "I don't... meet? I'm just trying to—"
"Not one of the girls, that's for sure!" the female violinist added, causing the others to laugh harder.
"I... uh?" That made nothing any clearer, and Héctor was feeling increasingly lost. It would make more sense if the group were just a bunch of cackling hyena alebrijes in disguise. But one thing was becoming clear—whatever they were laughing about, it was at his expense. But what would they...
A sudden panic bolted up his spine, and Héctor whipped around, yanking his alebrije off of his head. "Pizzicato," he whispered desperately, clutching the bat close to his face. "What exactly did I say last night?"
Of course Pizzicato could not answer, only staring up at him apologetically. But his question had apparently not been as quiet as he'd hoped, as Gustavo spoke up behind him: "Oh, nothing too important... chorizo."
The word was punctuated with a few ridiculous notes from the trombonist, and Héctor let go of the alebrije, turning back around to face them again. "C-chorizo?" he repeated. What did that have to do with...?
"Chorizo!" one of the other band members shouted, with a few others echoing it between laughs. Still none of that cleared it up, until another went on: "What a way to go!"
What a way to... oh. Right, that was how he'd... Was that what had happened last night? He'd rambled about how he'd died? That's what was making them laugh like deranged hyenas?
His chest burned in indignation. "W-well I'm sure the way you all died wasn't much better!" he said, gesturing at the group.
"Sure it was!" Gustavo said, getting close enough to elbow Héctor in the side. "Better than choking on a chorizo!"
"What?!" Héctor stepped back, hands up defensively. "That wasn't—! It was bad, I got food poisoning!"
"Sure you did, chorizo!"
He found himself staring at them as they continued to laugh, wondering why the difference even mattered, whether he died by food poisoning or choking on—
Oh.
...Oh.
His cheek bones burned furiously, and he turned away again, covering his face. "That was not what happened," he grumbled into his hands. Not that it would convince them. Pizzicato fluttered around nearby, squeaking angrily at the group, but he tried to wave her off. "Basta—all right, you've had your laugh. Very funny. Now could you just show me where the supply—"
"Ey, didn't you say you were married, too?" Gustavo asked, one brow raised, and the inside of Héctor's rib cage was suddenly burning in anger. "Did she know about—"
The shock of anger traveled quickly from Héctor's heart to his fist.
Next thing he knew, Gustavo was staggering back, supported by the trombonist while the other musicians gave ooooohs of both sympathy and interest. A small part of Héctor regretted the action, but the rest of him didn't care, and his fist remained clenched.
Stupid jokes were one thing, but to even dare to suggest infidelity...
"What's your problem, man?" Gustavo cried, rubbing his jaw where he'd been struck. "Can't you take a—"
Before he could finish, Pizzicato buzzed in front of the group, letting out a terrible, high-pitched shriek that left all of them shrinking back, including Héctor. The noise magnified his headache, nearly blinding him, and he staggered back, blurting out a curse. Immediately the noise stopped, but he was already storming away, eyes narrowed against the ringing in his skull. "Forget it, I'm done," he snarled. "Ceci or whoever can clean the place themselves."
Pizzicato was fluttering after him, squeaking an apology, but Héctor did not slow his pace. He couldn't find the stupid broom, but he knew very well where the exit was—a different one from the fire escape ladder in Ceci's room. Unfortunately, while he left Gustavo and his stupid group behind, the anger and humiliation followed him out of the studio, clinging to his bones. He punched the metal railing of the stairs in an attempt to rid himself of the emotions, but it only resulted in a shock of pain traveling up his arm.
Finally Pizzicato caught up to him, landing on his head and squeaking in concern. "You know," he muttered, narrowing his eyes against the light as he stepped outside, "I'm starting to hate musicians."
His alebrije whined, but said nothing more.
She didn't need to remind him.

How did sports grow from primeval playground games into the worldwide business we know today? This reflection on athletics and their increasingly central role in contemporary society examines their metamorphosis from purely social activities into disciplines combining technology, economy, medicine, communication, fashion and art. The increasing spread of sports culture has altered habits and ways of dressing all over the world, marking us all as members of the tribe of athletes (never mind the infighting between Nike and Adidas or high-tech and retro factions). This powerful compilation of research, analysis and visuals looks into the influence of sports, sports celebrities and sportswear in fields as varied as film, fashion, art, advertising and architecture. Designed by acclaimed graphic firm "Hola", the book is organized under themes such as Speed, Protection, Functioning, Lightness, Sensuality, Resistance, Tradition, Mutation, Unisex and Entertainment. Media phenomena considered include Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, Mike Tyson and Venus and Serena Williams alongside fashion forces like Nike, Reebok, Adidas and Puma, with illustrations of the ways in which garments are transformed and specific trends become cult objects. Their influence on high-end fashion is seen in the work of Giorgio Armani, Prada, Stella McCartney and Lagerfeld for Chanel. And then there is the work of contemporary artists like Matthew Barney, Uri Tzaig, Douglas Gordon, Angela Bulloch and Annika Larson, pieces that both engage with and analyze these trends, approaching sport as a symbolic territory. This look into the connections between athletics and our social, political and cultural life begins to parse the meaning of our culture's biggest obsession.

GIFASTIC SPOTLIGHT #2 : MARIE DE DURAT
@gifastic is an animation collective created by @matthieu-fouquet & @thevipersnake. The group is formed by 16 members, and you will discover them one by one with GIFASTIC SPOTLIGHT !
All the gifs above are made by Marie de Durat for Gifastic
You can follow her here :
tumblr : @billandashley ___________________ MARIE’S INTERVIEW :
Spotlight : Can you introduce yourself ?
Marie : Hola ! My name is Marie de Durat, I’m 22. I’m currently in fourth year at Georges Méliès school next to Paris. I am working on my graduation movie, « HERO » with four fabulous friends ☆
Spotlight : What do you think about Gifastic and what did it brings you ?
Marie : Mathieu and Arthur had a very good idea bringing Gifastic to life, thanks guys for creating it ! It’s very positive to reunite students from all over the world by their own initiative. Gifastic has been a breath of fresh air for me. I haven’t done a lot of animation during my studies (working more on vis dev, character design and background for student film) and when I was doing animation exercise for school, it always seemed so difficult, the simplest things were becoming complicated. For Gifastic, we can do just anything we want, simple or more sophisticated. So I relied more on my intuition, loved it, and I learned mostly thanks to this. It has been kind of a revelation. It’s also a really fun way of thinking « Okay I have this theme, theses colours and only 3 seconds. What kind of story I can tell? » Spotlight : Can you talk about your inspirations ?
Marie : I just got to many and it changes a lot so I’m gonna talk about the ones that comes in my mind right now (in a couple of hours, I’m gonna be such a frustrated shit because I didn’t talk about this artist or this one, but I can’t mention everyone anyway !) First, the God of Gods : Taiyo Matsumoto. I discovered him more precisely this year, and everything in his art is just so sensible and humanly accurate. His habit to put life’s « insignifiant » little details in his stories makes it real and relatable. And it’s visually astonishing (I had to read 3 times the first book of samurai bamboo before being able to follow the story because I had tears in my eyes seeing something so beautiful.). Also there is Masaki Yuasa of course, the work of Studio 4°C, a lot of painters but I can’t name them all so go check the tumblr « Master Painters ». Zilai Feng, Jean Paul Léon, Victoria Antolini , the work of Jenerally drawing, Yoshitaka Amano, Robert Valley, especially his sketches, Gigi Cavenago, Jia Youfu, the illustrator Arx lee, the work of Alex Rimbault is also super funny, Rickey tickey sketches, Mikkel Sommer… Music to, especially hip hop. But the best inspirations are outside, in the streets, at your school … (I know it sounds like a microwaved generic sentence but it’s true!) Sketching people outside is the thing that I like the most, and the best inspiration I ever found. It’s quite incredible how drawing is seen as something positive or reassuring by people. Sometimes it opens the door to a little chat with this stranger you draw, and that social aspect is something I cherish. Spotlight : What would you say to someone who wants to get into animation ?
Marie : Just to say, I only have a student experience so my vision can be not complete compared to someone who is working in the animation industry since years So if someone tells me he wants that, it’s cool, go for it ! It’s mostly a passion job, so it’s a chance! As Neil said, go for it ! When someone comes and talk to me about getting into animation, I heard a lot of « I’m afraid, I heard that you have to work really really hard, sacrifying a lot of stuff, your spare time, health, family… ». I think it’s possible to keep all of this, having a normal schedule, and work in animation. Personally I draw a lot, it takes me most of my time, but it is my choice, because I love it, drawing is my work and hobby. But, don’t be afraid, it’s absolutely not an obligation to give all your time to drawing/animation. And more, it’s important to keep time for other stuffs so you don’t turn crazy. Also I would tell : keep being sincere in your work, and keep the fun ! And remember all the time that everyone has different taste about drawing, and inspiration. Even if one day you may have heard someone say “this style is lame/mainstream/…”, don’t be afraid, everyone is different, as long as you are sincere with what you do. When you do something you like, it’s sweat out your work, and you do better stuff (It’s a little negative detail but in general everyone is really nice in animation ! AND ! Don’t hesitate to try different things! It’s more fun to use the creative opportunities and ideas your brain gives you ! You can find this way some new technics, thematics that will follow you during your career. ___________________ Gifastic Spotlight #1 : Neil Ingle HERE ! Find all Gifastic episodes HERE ! Font designer research: Pedro Arilla
Pedro Arilla is a Spanish typographer who I stumbled across whilst looking on Fontsmith. He started as creative director at Fontsmith, which is now also part of the Monotype Studio. His work is focused on legibility, but in my opinion still playful and experimental.
At Amiga
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cda9486949babd902c9f254c67a3da76/21d1078f14e12fdd-bc/s540x810/dcb3731d7e0819baa4b5ff42b9978610aea833f8.jpg)
I was drawn to this font as I really liked it’s use of shapes. I had never seen a font that looked pixelated but also smooth at the same time. I think that a lot of Arilla’s work is quite modular, which is something I am interested in. I like how the corners are rounded, as I think that it gives a unique softness to this technology inspired font.
Amsteldok

This font was created for Amsterdam’s new WPP campus - it has heavy influence from 20th century Dutch design. After looking into this a bit, I can definitely see the correlation. Again, I was a big fan of the large, modular letter forms. I also really liked how some of the fonts had a larger width on one side/ on one stem. I thought this created some cool visuals.
