Starting the year off (relatively) simple with the HGUC Jesta! I think the kit I got must have been from a defective batch because literally all of the major armour pieces had flashing on them and I had to sand everything down so it didn't look awful. I also ended up removing the seam lines on the head, shoulders and arms mostly as practice.

Tried out the sticker decals for the first time with this kit and yeah I can see why people avoid these like the plague, they feel so cheap and look kinda terrible. I actually got a delivery for a bunch of water slide decals for some WFM kits and the RG 2.0 grandpa so I'm very excited to use those!

The next kit I have my eyes on is the Michaelis, which I don't plan on doing anything fancy with, just panel lining really. Will be a very welcome change of pace I imagine.

The Zeta plus soars with a new colorway!

Cutting it real close posting one last kit for the year but this time I have the HGUC Zeta plus (Unicorn ver.) done in a custom paint job! Like my previous works it is hand painted using Mr. Hobby Aqueous paints.

I was originally going to go with a different color scheme but ended up changing my mind after seeing the Nero from Gundam Sentinel, the Robot Spirits Ka Signature specifically, and falling in love with the teal color that figure had. So I decided to try to mimic it (in this case a mix of Aqueous H-45 Light Blue & H-46 Emerald Green) and lay it out like the Zeta plus test color type, and it turned out great! It ended up more on the blue side but it's still a gorgeous color, really one of my favorites.

And that makes 5 painted kits for 2024. I hope to match that number in 2025 but with a backlog like this we'll see, maybe I get more done. My next project, the HGUC Messer, is already underway and should be done before the end of January, just in time for another contest at my local shop. It's been a fun one so far and I'm excited to finish it. For now though, I do hope you've enjoyed the holidays and have a happy new year! ✌🏼

I really wanted a project to test my skills, and I chose to do it with the HGUC Zudah. I did extensive seam line removal, removed mold lines, filled in some holes I didn't like with putty, and scribed out some of the shallower seam lines and details. I definitely need to upgrade my equipment on that front. I also didn't like the way that the rifle's scope was deeply recessed, so I used a length of sprue to extend it. I'm pleased with the results.

I used the weapons and parts of the body as a chance to practice quickly switching between colors in my airbrush. I also hand painted a lot of the details. After a couple months mainly doing mini painting, it felt like I had multi-classed or something. I painted the mono-eye and scope lenses with fluorescent enamel paint over a layer of white. It looks super cool in person and I will definitely use that technique again in the future.

The weathering was done starting with a layer of silver drybrushing. Then I used a Tamiya weathering pallet to create some contrast on the larger areas. I then finished with sponging on black. I had tried sponging before, but the sponge I used was way to big. Much happier with the result this time.

I am so so happy with how this kit turned out. It was a lot of work but it's great to see what I can do when I go all in.

They’re all around 58-60$ and like I’ve never built a MG before.

Which is like the best out of these to get?? I love them all but least fav is probably wing?? I’ve never seen that series really.

HGUC 1/144 RGM-79 "GM" E.F.S.F. Mass Production Mobile Suit

A real vintage one today!!! This version of the HGUC GM is from the early days of gunpla, back when there were only one or two foil stickers and every connection was a polycap.

You could really tell this was old, as there were only two runners. You'll notice the paint - the HGUC GM is mint green instead of white. This is an homage to the old old gunpla for the GM, back before sprues were pre-coloured or the grading system existed. That kit was completely mint green.

I actually have a vintage kit like this for the Zaku II, might photograph and post it here one day if there's enough interest.

Hobby Clubhouse’s review on the HGUC #002 Gyan inspired me to pull the trigger on buying the Valuable Pod accessory pack for the darn thing, primarily to see if I could give it a Gelgoog beam rifle. The verdict? Kinda…

To start, the new hands that come with the Valuable Pod allow this Gyan to hold all sorts of guns. The change to a rectangular hole does wonders for compatibility without modding guns themselves. Even the Gelgoog rifle fits!

The issue comes with the rest of the arm. The stock is so long it likes to hook around the elbow and warp itself. Since this Gyan’s wrists are pegs you can’t adjust it, either.

At first I gave up hope and thought I needed to mod the gun or the hand, but I found the magic angle in the hand itself!

It feels weird to sandwich in at that angle, but it doesn’t seem to stress any of the part involved. So with that I now present:

Here it is! One of my favorite monoeye suits and my first painted build of 2025, the HGUC Messer Type-F01! Like my previous builds this is fully hand painted with Mr. Hobby Aqueous paints, along with Mr. Hobby Acrysion fluorescent colors for the monoeye, beam rifle scope and beam saber.

I went for a mostly screen accurate look here- closely matching the color guide, only adding a few new panel lines and deepening the existing lines and holes, and going light on the decals. I also used some joint parts from the HGBC Ballden Arms pack to give the back skirts better articulation that sort of matches what they can do in the movie. And it came out great! With how dark the movie can be it's a little hard to use as a reference but when recreating some of the poses from it I knew I had exactly what I was looking for.

There were some interesting challenges with removing the seams on this kit. The beam rifle was easy enough, but both the head and arms needed other parts to be part of the assembly before being welded together. After some very careful painting though they both look great, just like if the seam lines were never there to begin with. The fluorescent paints are my favorite part of this build, especially for the monoeye. It adds a ton of menacing energy to an already mean suit (even if the colors aren't exactly right) and really brings the suit to life. It's definitely something I want to do more of on my future projects.

This was a pretty fast build overall so I'm hoping I can translate that speed to the other projects I have in mind (though definitely not a kit a month). Next time though I'll have some more snap builds from the backlog to show so for now, I hope you enjoy! ✌🏼

I feel like the Kshatriya speaks for itself.

I've wanted this kit since I first watched Unicorn about 7 years ago. It's probably good that I waited this long, the Sleeves markings really tested my hand painting skills. I also have an issue where one of the arms is very floppy despite my attempts to fix it.

If you get this kit you'll want to get an action base 1 as well to really get the crazy poses that you're buying it for. It seems that the AB 1 is the only one compatible with it, though I may be mistaken.

Im so so happy with how this turned out, brush painting was a bit of a pain but my god it’s satisfying seeing the results.

Next time im gonna work on checking clearances and priming better, paint scrapes off a lot in some of the joints which sucks but oh well
