Late Night Whispers

And so it began, your nightly ritual of reassuring Vash. You wrapped your arms around Vash’s small waist, laying your head against his naked shoulder gently. Humidity filled the bathroom, fresh from the shower your lover just took. No effort was made to wipe steam off the mirror.

“How are you feeling?” You asked.

Vash only let out a hum in response. A small pout fell on your face at the obvious avoidance to your question. You shifted your head, giving the long scar on his shoulder blade a kiss. You felt him stiffen under your touch. The scars were a tough subject to talk about, that you knew, but it didn’t make you adore the man in front of you any less.

“You know what I love about you?”

“M-Mayfly?” Vash stuttered at your proclamation, turning towards you. You just gave him a small smile and reached your hand up to his face, cupping it.

“I love your quirky quips,” you gave him a kiss on the lips.

“I love how your so willing to help those around you,” you kissed a scar running Vash’s collarbone .

“I love how you believe the best in everyone, no matter their past,” you placed another kiss along the scar across his sternum.

And you gave him another. And another. And another. Each praise was followed by a kiss on some sort of scar he had received in the past. By the end of your nightly ritual, Vash was a red mess. His ears were as bright as cherry tomatoes, along with his face. As embarrassed as the blond was, there were clearly hearts in his eyes. You gave him another smile before stepping on your tiptoes, giving him one last peck on his noise as he tackled you into a tight hug.

Equestrian Notes 4.14.23

- Talked a lot more than interacted with the horse, but the horse remained a vital part of grounding and recognizing when i start to dissociate hfjkg.

- Talked about the psyche circus as emotional parts (not for DID but as a general sense of lack of cohesion due to never being allowed to form a concrete public identity for 23 years of my life, I use Characters and their Symbolic Narratives as a way to explore the ways my brain fights its self in a way I can more easily point out parts instead of being like ‘idk some part of meee?’). (its also easier to be compassionate for a character than myself).

- Foster encapsulates rules and logic and forceful management. He’s ‘brush your teeth, comb your hair, wear something different, stand up straight, you know how, you are capable, not doing so if a personal failure’. He’s a vampire so he’s used to rules being necessary, lest you be hurt or ostracized. Which is... relatable... - Nancy asked when Foster would’ve become a part, not a character, but that sense that I needed to follow the rules or I would be in danger. And I said around thirteen. So while Foster as a character feels like an adult and is aggressively controlling, he’s only 13 years old. I’m 26. I’m older than this part of me. I know better, and I shouldn’t allow it to push me around. - She also suggested, if Foster is really only 13 instead of a grown man, what’s something more age appropriate he’d rather be doing? At that age, what would I rather be doing, than being bossed around? And the answer was.... to relax, to let loose, to be allowed to move at my own pace. Maybe, to have someone work alongside me, with compassion, rather than judgement. To understand my needs even while concerned about my performance. Also, I wish I’d had the communication skills in some way to express myself more during that time of my life, so, if anything, he probably wants to be more than just the rules he lives by. - So foster needs a talking to, to recognize he’s coming in pretty hot, even if he’s coming from a place of caring, of a place of ‘i can better them’. We don’t need to be better. We just need to be okay. And we are, for the most part, okay.

- She gave me a handout which separates the internal system, which all people have and gets occasionally fragmented by trauma--- Which includes, Managers, Fighters, Exiles and the Self. She says I have easily made tons of characters based on emotional states, I largely live in a state of ‘how can my brain be me, if i disagree with my brain so so much’. So while I have a ton of Managers telling me what to do, Fighters trying to distract me, Exiles crying in pain, I genuinely don’t know who I’m supposed to be in that mess. Our touchstone is Curiosity for me. That drive to understand compassionately, others and these parts of me that hurt so much. Sometimes I want them gone, because they’re in my way of living a LIFE, but it’s important to know that... that’s probably exactly what the people who neglected me thought. Ultimately I want to understand and HEAL, understand and work together to make things BETTER.

- Talked about how Fantasy has been kind of my cradle of healing since I was 11 years old. Playing as characters, talking about narratives, research, philosophy, things on PAPER-- It was where I found solace. But I have this feeling of wanting to be in the real world, but it’s so much scarier than stories. Books you can close, texts you can backspace, new stories you can start and stop at a whim. Life is a bit. Semi-Permanent. It’s concerning. Sigh. HFHFHFH. Something something ‘fantasy isnt just an escape, its what I WANT for the real world’. Owlhouse kinda fuck me up w that ‘lost one magic, found another’. I don’t. Wanna leave my ‘magic’ behind though. With it being, indulging deeply in stories and fantasy and discussion and roleplay. But I find it hard to make a balance between retreating into it fearfully anytime something bad happens in the world. Ach.

HONESTYL!!! In the finale when Blade was about to deliver the final stab to that guy I was cheering him on 😭😭

but then Krista just HAD to stop him. 🤦‍♂️ seriously, why did she stop him?? Why did she call out to Blade and distract him? IT JUST MADE NO FKING SENSE and I was right there with Blade's assistant (Sheng? Chen?) being pissed the fuck off (my younger self was so petty the first time watching that part that I remember cheering when he shot Krista with a silver bullet for that hfhfhfh)

I was so annoyed that when the episode ended with a cliffhanger i just didn't care anymore lol. and turns out it never get renewed for a second season so us never knowing what happens after Marcus attacks(??) Krista after he found out she was working for Blade is kind of funny to me XDD

really there's this review of the series from back in 2011 that I discovered awhile back that accurately sums up how i felt when watching the show:

"But this cast of new characters was not supporting — they were the focus of the series! (...) I thought a series titled Blade would star a character named “Blade”!  But this show would be better off entitled Krista or, were it a hip-hop song, Krista feat. Blade.  He’s just using a brand name to sell Krista’s story (..)  As a fan of Blade the character, this series is not what I wanted.  I was blindsided by the House of Chthon drama."

Admittedly, it would have been harder to make Krista an integral part of the plot had the enemy changed.  The show that began with Krista’s brother murdered in cold blood by Marcus, and her conflicting loyalties became the centerpiece of all storylines.  Too bad they trivialized her motivations for revenge with daytime soap opera storylines which had her screwing and possibly falling for the man guilty of the crime she wants to avenge. 

Characters like Detective Boone and FBI Agent Collins were given lengthy introductions but never get any payoff. The way these characters were dropped is inexplicable, and frankly embarrassing.

i actually do remember the detective guy! his plot also pissed me off because i thought they were going to go somewhere with him slowly discovering vampires were real and I THOUGHT he was going to be a major part of the story, but then he just gets killed!! there was also the vampire ash/drug plot from the pilot that I thought was really cool but it never goes anywhere beyond episode 3. :/ it's never resolved and what was the point?

What an abusive bond. It’s like a husband telling his wife that she will never leave him, no matter what he does to her, because she loves him. But it’s on juice, because here we have a supernatural bond.

do you think skoodge actually is ok with being around zim because he sees him as a friend. Or that he’s only around since he’s the only other short irken to be around and even bothers talking to him, and he’s actually pretty annoyed by him like everyone else, and only listens like in hobo 13 for zim to be quiet.

I think both are pretty black and white takes 😩😩 and im not sure either feel right tbh. Skoodge being a “oh im only doing this so this annoying guy can shut up” doesn’t feel very… Skoodge. That feels like a more active-manipulator Tallest-tier tactic. Skoodge feels more like the direct opposite of that. LOW KEY? I think how primarily reactive he is as a character tends to be overlooked a lot 👁👄👁

I do think Skoodge is just a diligent yet impressionable soldier who follows orders and does what he can to be helpful for a goal regardless of who is giving the orders or what the goal is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and this is probably gonna sound meta and weird at first, but I legitimately don’t think Skoodge has that much agency to begin with.

It should probably be noted that in Hobo 13, Zim was in a position of authority for their group. Zim was the leader, and Skoodge wanted to prove his commitment to the greater goal of the group. He even came back like “GUESS WHAT I ESCAPED” [achievement unlocked] you go little starburst

It’s not like Skoodge volunteered to be leader himself. I think Skoodge would only go into a leadership role if someone else higher outright told him to. But!! I digress!! 😩

And ehhh Skoodge doesn’t really seem to care about shortness either from what I can tell. That seems more like a fun little quirk that has no bearing on how well he can do his job whatsoever nor would determine who he hangs around. If he hangs with anybody.

And with all that on the table Idk if i’d call Skoodge and Zim “friends” either. Probably the closest “equivalent” somebody like Zim has within his own species (and this is not me speaking on how friendships work within that species- i mean just in a cosmetic way that isn’t a robot) but I highly doubt they’re y’know. Actually friends. Y’know. Where they actively enjoy each others company and all that. We know Zim’s opinion on Skoodge (gullible, foolish, impressionable), but we don’t know Skoodges opinion on Zim. If he has any at all. I don’t think he has any opinion on Zim in the first place. 👁👄👁

“bUt in EpisOde 1 he’s backing away and—“ LISTEN! The first ep had no idea where any of the characters would end up becoming yet!! Nothing was set in stone for anybody 😩Skoodge in ep 1 is inferred to be a more meek and crybaby tier type compared to the more self-assured, confident, and easily influenced soldier he’s portrayed as later (and its not character development the writers just finally gave him a personality 😩). I’m willing to bet Skoodge as we know him would react very differently to being given Blorch in ep 1, probably obliviously proud if anything and willing to do his best with no thought on the danger. I promise aside from the premise, ep 1 is just this bizarro era for everybody involved and probably should be taken with a grain of salt. Besides he had to get out of that scene somehow 😩

Skoodge is just this reactive character who is around to be helpful. Zim is an active character who likes to give orders.

I saw one weird take somewhere that claimed “Zim enjoys tormenting Skoodge” and i’m like!! Wha— first of all— No 💀. Second, If you’re somebody who loves being in charge and giving orders, and there’s one guy out there that is guaranteed to listen to anything anybody tells him just… because!! Why wouldn’t you just go to that guy? He’ll go along with your plan no questions asked! Yay!! Skoodge being the object of torment is just an ongoing gag

For as little agency as Skoodge has, Zim will always give him something to do. Since Post!Blorch Skoodge got killed by the Tallest (he’s okay now), and after Hobo 13 he hasn’t been given anymore orders by the Tallest then… idk. Zim was technically his last direct authority figure. May as well bunk with him and see if he has anything for him to do for his infinite mission. But that’s me reading into it a smidge more than I likely should.

If they were in a cafeteria I don’t think Skoodge would willingly sit at the same lunch table as Zim. But I DO think he would sit with him if Zim yelled across the room and demanded “SKOODGE! SIT WITH ME!!” and Skoodge, being easily influenced, would just be like “SURE THING!” then do it. See? Look how helpful he was.

And that’s just kind of it, really. All that might be a very simplified way of looking at Skoodge but I think that’s … proooobably more crucial than it seems

dont get me wrong tho, ppl can still find reasons or give reasons behind his behavior. Reactive characters are just a different type of character, that’s all 😩

Hello! Thank you. I have recently answered an ask that does mention a bit about the art school -- I went to Pratt Institute for a BFA in Communications Design, Illustration -- and it may be interesting for you to go down the rest of my reference tag; of which I mention Art Career Tips, and Design Advice, as well as some stray others.

And I guess if anyone is wondering because I DID mention corporate stuff; as of 2021, I am currently an illustrator on a math textbook w/ Amplify Education, and I also do children’s books and book covers in the publishing industry. Occasionally my online shop pays for a few bills. Everything’s freelance; my health insurance is my own cost, and I don’t have any retirement accounts with a company. (”Self Employment” is basically... you shake hands with yourself and pay double. That’s how the tax system works in the US at least hfhfhfh)
