honestly at this point i should create a file for this called: midnighter and apollo's origins. feels like i'm following a breadcrumb trail left by bendix himself.

so if he spent so long crafting midnighter and apollo specifically, why did he so quickly throw them away? did he know this would happen or does he still have them in his web without them even knowing it?

what does this mean? why or how is that shit stain still alive? how long did it take for him to create midnighter and apollo? i am freaking the fuck out.

I have noticed twice now at least that Tom Taylor seems to rely on a "This thing wasn't cool unlike my version" thing that's just odd and often annoying in his approach to comics.

Not because you can't criticize pre-existing characters but because the criticism is never... effective?

Like Jon asking Superman why Superman doesn't do stuff to save the world? When Superman does do stuff, and has historically been a political figure (and his politics have been far more radically leftist than Jon's). There's criticisms of Superman, but that one doesn't work.

Taylor's take on the Teen Titans is similar. He flashes back to a story where the JL bursts in to take out Brother Blood and plays it up as a "The New Teen Titans were lame" thing when that was probably the strongest point in TT history where they were most equivalent to the JL because he can hype up his new Titans as their most important versions. At the same time this take is going to fail because his new team is just the New Teen Titans. They've got no new characters, it's just the OG NTT.

I think the worst time he did this was inside his Son of Kal El book when he had Lex Luthor show up immediately murder Bendix and then talk about how he was foolish and a loser. Because that was after most of the book had been spent on Jon fighting Bendix (incredibly ineffectually). So if he was a foolish loser why did we spend so long on him?

I get this plot device in theory. Especially with Lex. It's the "Villain who beats the villain is the best villain" and that's great but you don't need to do this for Lex fucking Luthor? He's already the primary Superman villain. You do not need to convince us of that.

Yeah its kinda been pissing me off that no one is acknowledging that the man who actually created both Midnighter and Apollo is just running around and ruining more peoples luves and M is doing nothing about it. Pre-New 52 Midnighter spent so much time trying to track down and then kill Henry Bendix!

But they nerfed his character and maybe changed his origin from 2011 onwards, and like. Jon and Jay could have had a really great team up with Midnighter and maybe Apollo during the Son of Kal-El run when Clark was off world and then M being a queer mentor to Jon just starting a new relationship and then helping Jon and Jay to take down Bendix!

But when i think about how great that would have been, it also wouldnt have been possible bc both M and Apollo were offworld with Clark. But still! After the Warworld crew gets back to Earth M and Apollo could have had a thing where they figured out about Bendix and then go off to kill him again!

But no! (And now is where i get preachy)

They nerfed Apollo! Hes arguably more fucked up than Midnighter in Wild storm and they made him a damsel! Homie is so much more than that. So they COULD have had a whole one shot where M and Apollo hunt down Bendix after they got back to Earth, but NO. They're dealing with Apollos ptsd. Which is a very serious matter, and both M and Apollo had issues with ptsd in older comics, but their reactions weren't to the same level as Apollo does in the Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special. And Idk. I miss really powerful Apollo. But also i get the feeling that the Midnighter in the more recent comics wouldn't hunt down Bendix to take him out permanently

But also hey! Jenny Sparks, Jenny Quantum, Shen Li-Men, and Jack Hawksmoor have all also been introduced back into DC comics in DC vs Vampires: All Out War and Jack has recently been fully in a DC comic recently so maybe theyre pulling the Authority team back together piece by piece! Who knows.

I just wish they had made more of a deal out of Bendix being the creator of all the Gamorran metas.

Uhhhh, was anyone gonna tell me that since Bendix was added to the dcu, they’ve created more characters that’s he’s “made”?? Like….I thought he just existed to be Midnighter’s origin, no one said he was the creator of Jay Nakamura now.

Bro, who else is there? I cannot stand not knowing.

those words alone help support my theory that midnighter and apollo are bendix test tube babies grown to adulthood. their experiences when awake was probably just.. training and being on the medical table. that's fucked up.

downside is, millar wrote it. upside is, millar can kiss my ass. i'm using this line and i'm gonna daydream apollo throwing him into earth's orbit.
