Meta + Midgar

shaking u ever so gently for this because i have thoughts    (  prompt  )

           two very vital points i feel should be remembered before getting into this :  tifa is around 14 / 15 when crisis core occurs  ( possibly near her 16th birthday ,  i can't remember .  she was still so young  —  that's what gets me the most )  & she just witnessed a rather gruesome scene, without being granted a moment to really process everything. i'm primarily going to be focusing on her experience at the start — touching more on the emotional state she may have been in than the external factors that might've influenced her time there.

her life in midgar, despite having its good moments, was the lowest & loneliest time in her life. i have two main reasons for this, but i also wanna briefly comment on her wellbeing while in edge.

i. reason 1 :  zangan. he finds tifa at the reactor & rescues her from being another one of hojo's lab experiments. he attempts to heal her, to no avail, & ends up bringing her to a trusted doctor in midgar. he doesn't stick around because he doesn't like that city. i completely understand if she was holding some partial resentment towards him because of that. i'm not entirely sure if she knew he had also been injured by sephiroth  (   ❛  i can't even jump anymore .  but i hope you continue to sharpen your skills & remember what i taught you .  ❜   )  — she had possibly believed he had dumped her off there & made a run for it. the letter found later on had to have given her some closure & allowed her to heal from this one sided conflict with him, but that doesn't really change the fact that tifa could've easily felt abandoned.   ( side note :  i've been racking my brain all morning but i sincerely can't remember if she does get a chance to see him off .  context clues tell me no but it's been a hot minute sadhsfk my point still stands  —  there would have been some lingering feeling of disappointment ,  anger ,  etc .  because he left her there alone .  if she isn't mad ,  i sure as hell would be askdjks )

ii. reason 2 :  general — the odds were stacked against her from the very start. imagine being a teenage girl, feeling such anger towards a goliath & utterly powerless while navigating a new city. given the way her emotional state seems to work, i'm almost positive she would've hit some mental slump during her recovery from that encounter with sephiroth — because she's human. however, because she's tifa lockhart, she was always bound to get back up. this is just one of the many times she'll have to start from nothing. whatever she knew was gone & the future before her was up in the air, without any sort of preparation  ( because life just isn't fair enough for that ). all in all, the mixture of recent loss & the hard hitting realization that she was on her own now made life there total hell, at the beginning. i wouldn't be surprised if this kept her from really seeing midgar as home. still, it should be said that her inability to process grief in the traditional, chronological sense is so vital to her character development later on.

iii. edge vs midgar :  the events that follow after ac can be interpreted as her  ( realistic )  happy ending. she's healing, she's witnessing her best friend healing, she's created a new life from nothing  ( once again )  that brings her genuine joy, & she knows everyone she holds dear to her heart is now safe. edge is her new home because it's where this special little family of hers  ( notably sharing a similar sense of loss / disconnect of blood ties )  has decided to plant their roots ;  entirely different from before, when she didn't really have a choice. the anger from the past has eased — it's no longer a raging flame of hate, but a soft candlelight that's only vaguely remembered when looking over her shoulder. midgar is where she had to learn how to start life over after losing everything for the very first time. edge is where she feels the most in touch with herself & others because, while she had also lost so much by that point, she had people there to start over with her.

oh, gentle breeze — it was there  ( at least ,  it was in that moment .  then again ,  she wasn't really sure what was real & what wasn't )  & it felt sharp against her skin. was it cold? should she get a coat? was he cold? was it only inside? was there a draft coming in from somewhere? was — a pause.

           silly, meaningless thoughts overtook every other sense. she always did this with him — freeze  ( in this case ,  metaphorically & physically )  at the questions that caught her off guard & push forward anything else but an answer. she wanted to ignore him & his flirtatious attempts — he caught everyone's attention, including hers. no, she thought, i can't read too much into this. what a clouded heart she must have to think of it as anything romantic. he could've been hurt — he was giving her the benefit of the doubt. thinking anything beyond that was just silly on her end. all his niceties & gestures had to have been the center of somebody else's heart. thinking she was any different from them wasn't doing her any favors.

a soft exhale, followed by a chuckle.   ❛  i'll take your word for it ,  ❜   she began, a small smile on her face.   ❛  next time ,  i won't let you off so easily .  ❜   yes, she thought, this was okay. she wasn't any less grateful. her face flashed a gentle, yet pointed look  ( a teasing manner obvious ).   ❛  you probably wanna rest ,  huh ?  you must be exhausted  —  doing so well today ,  i'd be surprised if you weren't .  ❜

Zack has to admit... It is impossible not to adore the way Tifa wears her feelings so freely. The genuine look of concern upon her face for him is touching. He takes a moment to appreciate it. That beaming grin never faltering as those glowing azure eyes gaze intently back at her. Zack laughs at her joke about Marlene, giving her a hearty chuckle. Gloved hands come down to rest in his lap, as he leans back in his bar stool.

He is tired.

But for the first time in a long time, he is at peace. It had been some time since Zack had really had something to fight for. Sure he gave Barret hell about the shit pay, but at least it was for a good cause. He had seen first hand the horrors Shin-Ra was capable of. He had his own reasons for wanting to get back at them. A long story that he put off sharing every time anyone brought it up.

For good reason.

"I don't doubt it."

He wholeheartedly believes she would be a great help. Zack closes his eyes for a few moments. A deep sigh leaving his lips as he leans back in his stool even further to stretch. A brief yawn escaping his lips.

"They aren't just gonna let us tear down the world you know?"

He recovers from his yawn, another chuckle leaving his lips once again at the thought.

If only it were that easy.

"I can take my shirt off if it will put your mind at ease."

He offers her a wink. Playfully teasing her in another attempt to assure her he is fine.

5. Do you sleep with a stuffed animal? 

I do! I have a Winnie the Pooh stuffed bear I've had since I was younger, he's the perfect size for snuggling

6. Do you prefer drawing or writing? 

I prefer writing! I wanted to learn to draw but I have joint issues so drawing was causing too much pain. Plus, I'm a sucker for writing descriptive work!

7. What’s your ideal number of blankets to sleep with?

Personally? Two. I usually only sleep with one but sometimes you just need that extra blanket, ya know? Either one very big blanket or two normal sized blankets

 

15. What’s your favorite season? 

Early spring or mid-fall! Where it's cooler out, but feels good to sit in the sun and smell the fresh air ☺️ I just don't like extreme heat or really cold weather hdjsdhsj

i just watched that show with Cyborg in it anyways there's this character, Jane, and i wasnt playing attention like at all but she kept randomly acting very different so i asked my dad "Hey whats up with Jane" and he said that she has like 65 personalities and they all have different powers except the personalities have their own lives and backstories and they interact with each other and everything Cyborg gave them a pb&j or something and the response he got was "Aw thanks :) too bad 3 of us dont like jelly, 14 of us are allergic to peanut butter, and none of us are your friends." idk why im telling you this but she kinda reminded me of yall Jane is super badass i just forget her power jsadghadg im sorry if this is offensive i just got really excited and immediately thought of you and i thought the pb&j line was funny
