I'm not quite sure how to express it exactly, but I've always wanted to create something that felt like the culmination of everything that's inspired me. Because I love a lot of things so deeply, yet they're so different, and I had no idea how it'd even be possible to combine them into something that honoured each of their styles and worked literally at all tonally or thematically. Yet every time I tried to follow one core inspiration, it would exclude so many others I wanted to dabble in. And finding Ghost in the Machine, it was like, wow, something like that is actually possible? Not only can you have many different flavours of inspirations in a story, but they can interact? They can develop alongside one another?? They can smooch??? There's many, many things I love deeply about GITM, but I think that might be the most impactful for me. Just, seeing that it's possible, and that giving me the freedom to try for myself, to take all these different inspirations, dig into what speaks to me in each of them, and imbue those themes/ideas/vibes into characters and play with them like dolls from all different series… it's amazing. Like a whole new world that, in hindsight, was always there, but now I can finally see it. I'm so, so grateful you've decided to share GITM with all of us. It's genuinely a wonderful, thought-provoking, and deeply moving story, and I'm so glad I came across it <3

Ahhh thankyou so much, I'm so happy you feel so inspired by GITM! I actually went through a very similar feeling when I read ILM by Ziracona, I was like ohhh shit wait what? People can just write multi mil word ensemble cast stories which are essentially all original characters? hello? I felt like it gave me permission to write what I really wanted, in a way! Please please indulge yourself with your writing, unapologetically put all your favourite things in it, you wont regret it. Writing GITM has been so fulfilling and full of joy and we're only just coming to the end of act one... many more years to go...

Sid and yourself are in silent agreement—Emerson did this on purpose.

But any nerves he might've had after unexpectedly running into you at the station melted watching you become a flustered mess when his turnout jacket parted to reveal bare skin and toned muscle.

Pride bloomed recklessly in his chest realizing you couldn't keep eye contact for more than a few seconds. And, that you avoided his torso entirely. He grinned harder than he had in years watching you invent tasks to busy your hands with—to distract your wandering mind.

"Remind me again; what exactly do floral arrangements have to do with fighting fires?" Sidney hears you hiss at your best friend twenty minutes into the session.

He stifles a laugh while as he holds the pose he was given.

Emerson, the town's best (and only) professional photographer, only chuckles. The sound of smug satisfaction slips between shudder clicks.

"Not a damn thing..."

You pin her with an unamused grimace, your arms folded tautly over your grass-stained overalls. The adorably pinched expression reminds him a lot of the furry friend he plucked out of that tree not too long ago.

She sighs, rolling her eyes. "I thought it'd be a nice way to jazz up the background a bit. Maybe give some variety to the calendar, y'know? There's only so much I can do with a red brick wall."

You scoff in disbelief, but keep any further gripes to yourself.

Lowering the camera, she drops her voice to a half-assed conspiratorial whisper, "—and I wanted to give you an opportunity to finally see him shirtless. You're welcome, by the way."

"Because I needed your help the first time," you bite back thoughtlessly.

You petulantly kick at nothing before freezing, eyes blown wide. Stunned into silence by your unplanned candor, you can barely sputter out fragments... which only serve to strengthen the initial innuendo.

Sidney's thunderous laughter nearly drowns out the unfortunate sound of Emerson's R6 crashing to the floor.

what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

older ones in big fandoms. I killed a clown. AMA! & no sense of living without aim (IT Movies); some new beginning & good old-fashioned lover boy (Good Omens); Once More, with Feeling (Ted Lasso) <- ok this one is from last year and the fandom isn't that huge, I just got lucky with post timing.

do you respond to comments? why or why not?

I DO I love comments!! I think people taking some time to let you know they liked something is amazing. I want to reply to that and also feed more comments

what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Considering I have written character death a few times... I think my angstiest fic is probably my Ted Lasso big bang entry, one more time around, not so much because of the ending but because of the emotional beats. It's an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind AU with all that entails (memory loss) & there's an open ending that could be read as hopeful!!! but I still think the flashback scenes are #angst

what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

OHHHH. Good question. I'm not a pure fluff person but I like happy endings. Probably my some of my "fix it" stuff, like well I rose, and I rose (Captive Prince, Theomedes lives); and (I think) the kids are in trouble (IT movies)

do you write crossovers?

Not often, I feel like it requires a lot of skill to make work. I've written two short crossovers I really like: The Art of Survival (ASOIAF & The Inheritance Cycle) and my body on the waves (The Old Guard & Pirates of the Caribbean)

have you ever received hate on a fic?

Throwback to the time I got twitter cancelled for writing age difference selfcest and someone left me this fuckass essay after they attacked me somewhere more public (cringe) and I said I would respond to concrit if they had it. I will always think with pride about the line "Another positive is to recognize that you are indeed a good writer. That's partly a negative because without that I probably would not have read on. Morbid curiosity can only take you so far and it's easier to dismiss something that's been poorly written." <- thank u hater <3

do you write smut? if so, what kind?

I write lots of emotionally horny smut that often doubles as character study (not only bc I have literary ambitions in my smut just because I think it's hot). I only rate a fic E when the smut is detailed enough that I think "somebody could potentially get off reading this". Otherwise it's M.

have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope! Many of my fics were written as exchange gifts to somebody else so I hope it never happens.

Not YET but I workshop so many fic ideas with friends. One day maybe.

Some of my old Captive Prince drafts, probably. And no sense of living without aim, my IT Eddie/Richie fic... I got so much fandom drama that year that I could never finish the last chapter. But my heart didn't want to put it on this list so maybe there's hope yet.

I think I'm very good at setting up emotional beats and making character voices feel distinct, both dialogue and POV

what are your writing weaknesses?

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it's cool if it's used in a way where it enriches the story. The reader should be able to understand what it means from context, without needing an in-text translation, and if you're using a limited POV the character should be able to understand at least some words in the language <- those are pet peeves of mine

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

First fic I ever wrote was Eragon (Paolini) when I was in middle school to show to my friend. First fic I ever posted was also Eragon on FFN. First fic I posted on AO3 I believe was ASOIAF or maybe the Vampire Diaries.

what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

Raise your hand if your mil cried because her son told her we wanted to spend Christmas Day at home alone as a family of 4 (something we have NEVER done and never did as a family of of 3 either) but we would happily come to her house on the 23rd. She says it’s not fair because we automatically get the 24th with my family every year. Christmas Eve is a 50 year tradition in my family. It doesn’t start until 4/5pm. Dan’s been coming to Christmas Eve since before we got engaged!!!!! So it’s not new.

You know what’s not fair? That I have 2 kids and not once have I ever gotten to experience a slow nice Christmas with them. I’ve never got to see them play with their toys all day in their pajamas. Never got to relax. Always have to be driving to NJ OR have them at my house (we did that like twice, I’ll never do it again). I play nice because I understand she wants to see my kids and she has no family that wants to spend time with her (gee I wonder why!!!!!).

You know what ELSE isn’t fair? That any year it’s my moms year for thanksgiving or Easter, my mil INSISTS/DEMANDS we come to her house too. But on her years, she doesn’t say a damn word asking if we are seeing my mom. And my mom does not ask - she respects that I have in laws and that it’s not her year. So my mom quietly accepts that she won’t see my kids for thanksgiving. She tells us to have a nice time and is happy to FaceTime us.

I’m so tired of a grown ass woman crying about how she has no one to spend the holidays with.

So anyway. I'm enraged <3 everything about the music video makes me mad <3 I figured at LEAST if nothing else it was nice that Paranoid DJ got some more recognition. Honestly, amazing for him! He's a stand up chap and he deserves every good thing that's ever come his way. Like Micheal, Ashley and other unsung heros he did SO MUCH for hazbin/helluva and making us fall in love with the characters. BUT. THEY. BARELY. CREDITED HIM. And I am mad. I'm even more mad she did nothing in the video captions other than stick a middle finger up to her haters and the drama of the week. That is not the spirit of indie I fell in love with where she used to thank all her viewers and supporters, staff and collaborators. So instead I decided to look for something happy! SPINDLE'S PRECARIOUS FINANCES: https://graphtreon.com/creator/VivienneMedrano Notice on the graph the steady drop in subscribers Viv has gotten on her patreon since this time last year, 2022. (5.1k to 3.5k) If I'm being generous and looking at her peak a few days ago, (because everyone drops their sub and resubscribes at the end of each the month) she makes about 5.7k a month which adds up to 68.4k a year. Which could sound like an okay salary for ONE person but her patreon says she employs "100+ artists and crew members". that is 100+ people she is paying. I spent forever learning about youtube pay rates tonight. RPM is the term used for the amount a youtuber makes per 1000 ad views and it varies SO MUCH its hard to say what Viv's RPM is. BUT!!! The average rpm for a youtuber is $18. However many many forums have discussed that the category of a video greatly changes its rpm. For example, finance and tech videos have a top rpm due to their demographic (more affluent viewers that advertisers want to target) the younger/poorer the video's audience demographic is, the lower the rpm. Gamers are considered among the lower paid but EVEN LOWER THAN THAT are animators. They make PENNIES. (which is kind of sad because they have the highest effort videos and can't mass produce) I've seen animators say they get about 40 to 60 cents per 1000 views. I have no idea what vivziepop makes from youtube but I think it could be $600-18,000 as an absolute ceiling per 1 mil views.

Again, she has an entire studio to pay. Therefore, MOST of spindles money comes from merch and when you factor in the EXTREME oversaturation of merch with the declining viewers, toxic fandom and obvious loss of interest from die hards (based on her patreon) her merch sales are PLUMMETING. Her vacation money right now is probably from her Hazbin contract. Apparently for first time show runners, they make about $30,000 per episode. That's $240,000 she made for season 1 and will make maybe that much or more for season two. It's a good amount of money!! But with her spending rates, the mortgage on her home (that can't be paid off if she was begging for money to pay her dentist in 2019 and hadn't bought the house yet), her lifestyle and studio are NOT sustainable unless hazbin/helluva is her just her foothold in the industry and not the apex of her career.

While she's living the high life like she's 'made it' her whole career is in a very precarious place and what matters the most right now is her online conduct and the quality of her products to determine if she will find work in the future. Of course on the most pessimistic front, she could probably pull it together and do what she does best and leech off other peoples talents for the rest of her career. (eg stepping back, becoming the ceo of spindle and bringing in a network of indie shows by talented new creators that she can slap her name on as a producer and get half the credit)

Anon, there's not a lot of things I enjoy more than good, hard number crunching at Viv's expense. This is sublime.

definitely get him back. which checks out because i posted 32k of it this year. it's been so much fun tho i have absolutely no regrets.

📌 did you learn anything about yourself as a writer this year?

i learned soooo much because i had never really done much creative writing before this year, but one thing that really sticks out to me is learning how i like my sentences to sound. like sometimes i write a sentence and the flow of it just doesn't work, so i have to add a word here and take out a word there. it's something i spend a lot of time on and i do wonder if readers can pick up on that.

🎀 what's your FAVORITE thing you wrote/posted this year?

answered here! but my runner up is probably you live in me aka the rosier twins fic. i'm just so proud of how that one turned out. i had this really specific vision and vibe in my head and i think i 100% achieved it. it's so different from anything i've written or probably will write in the future, so that one's really special to me.

anyway i'm never doing that again. now i'm going to go change up my mods and get crazy with it. maybe continue SVE, maybe try the ridgeside village mod, who knows? :)

What a beautiful freaking week of weather. We’ve been spending it mostly outside and while I’m exhausted, I’m loving it.

Ups & downs, ups & downs. When I post rarely, I usually mostly include the ups, I guess, because they feel more notable and important and worth highlighting. But man, Mother’s Day is just kinda bumming me out this year.

I still am blessed to have my mom and my mother-in-law here; it’s not that. I think I’ve distilled it down to this, in my mind:

Every year for Mother’s Day, but also for all family birthdays, Father’s Day, holidays, Christmas, important occasions, you name it.. I take it upon myself to make sure that everyone else in my life is made to feel special. For Mother’s Day, you better believe I’ve got my mom and MIL covered with thoughtful gifts, cards, flower deliveries, etc.

The person in my life who I feel like on Mother’s Day should be doing that for me, isn’t. And hasn’t. And it’s not malicious and it’s not really even purposeful. It’s just a personality thing. But a few days before every holiday, Mother’s Day, birthday, whatever, I usually (always) hear “umm, what do you want/what do you wanna do? cuz I haven’t gotten or planned anything.”

Compounding it for me this year, I think, is that what I’m currently doing — being pregnant with what is actually my fourth pregnancy, after having lost an infant last year — feels impossibly, insurmountably, awfully difficult and frankly fucking unfair, and it’s largely just business as usual day to day. Like it’s nbd.

I guess it’d just be nice to feel like my person was willing to go out of their way to plan something to make me feel special, and it sucks that it doesn’t happen while I’m busy doing it for the other moms in our lives. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can’t really say anything without feeling like I’m just being petty and selfish, because he refuses to celebrate Father’s Day.

GRANTED - he’s spent the past two weeks working very diligently on renovating part of our unfinished basement into a new room where I’ll move my office and where we will make a nice guest room. Once that space is finished, we can move the guest room out of our third bedroom and make it into the nursery for baby 3. It’s largely “for me”, because it’s going to be my office. So, ladies, am I just being ungrateful? Should I just be grateful he’s doing that with the renovations and get over myself about everything else? I know these renovations would have happened regardless, but. Who knows. My brain is fried.

Oh. And my MIL is coming for a visit tomorrow and she’s going to be taking my cats home with her. She’s adopting them from me (us) because she’s wanted cats and I can’t handle having them here anymore. That’s a whole other can of worms. Boiled down very simply: I’ve always loved them dearly and now, and for quite some time, I can’t stand them being around me and need them to go to another happy home. Can’t do it anymore. Now that will be interesting to pick apart in therapy, eh?

-mentally I relate to matt just because from a young age I was dealing with severe bullying which led to severe anxiety and depression. And I'm im always in the counselors office cus I can't be in class. I'm always in the bathroom trying to get out of class. I've faked sick trying not to go to school. I have over 150+ absences cus I just fucking hate my school. But personally I relate to chris because he's always so cheerful and happy and energetic. And even tho I am struggling with things I'm getting help and doing WAY better then first semester and I'm just more myself. I always find ways to go outside and fuck around with my friends. I'm so pumped for tomorrow. Ending it in a bang. We fly to Greece privately in a jet (my first time. I deserve it.) just to surprise my lady for new years eve dinner then return the next day.

I know right. What the fuck is he thinking? Why have I never flown privately before after making so many millions? It's because these materialistic things and conveniences don't consume me. It isn't my priority. I'm happy at home living simply; cooking home made meals, watching netflix, and never going out. I never buy luxury stuff and don't give a shit about it.

But my biggest achievements are getting healthy as ripped as fucked. I've lost 55 pounds and 15% body fat. You come first and no one else.

I'm the most happy is when I'm building my future and something greater than you and I can understand. When I feel healthy. If I die tomorrow, I can say I've tried my best. So fuck yeah.

it's possible that's just memory issues if you notice it happening about the most random things but it's not in my case, because the only things getting twisted are the ones where she knows what she did/said wasnt right and got called out for it

got another short update for ya: for easter yesterday, my husband and i went over to my parents. during the argument the other day, my mil called up my mom, and my parents and even my sister all reached out via text within a few minutes worried about my husband and i. i told them not to worry, its no big deal, we'd talk another time about it. so when we were over, we finally revealed all of the shit talking my shitty grandma has been doing with my mil and how close they've become behind everyone's backs (because that's something they could help put an end to). and that's when my dad revealed he was over to her place the day before (day after the argument) to fix something on her new phone, when he saw about a dozen calls with my mil through the fb app. my husband said he checked my mil's phone and there were no calls between the two whatsoever except for stuff like christmas to wish happy holidays, which my mil has mentioned before. but other calls were also missing from the log, which we know happened, like with my sil or even me, the only two people in the call log were with two cousins she has, and it went back for months with no one else there. turns out she's been erasing the call logs. my dad also checked my grandma'a regular call log outside of fb and noticed many calls to an unsaved number he wasn't sure who it belongs to. and he asked my grandma why she called my mil, and she said "idk how to work the phone, my hands shake, i slipped it was an accident" and he started wondering how many times does that happen in a single day because the answer doesnt make sense. he didnt get why she'd be hiding something weird like that in the moment, but fully understood when we told him what's been happening.

and then the most jaw dropping reveal happened from my dad: this crazy woman kidnapped me as a baby when my parents were having a random argument. my parents asked them over to watch me for a couple of hours so they could go over to my mom's parents to figure something out (they'd had a few of those arguments the first few months i was born) and when they came back home, no one was there. this was a time before cellphones and even home phones so they couldn't immediately call up my dad's parents to check. the only option they had was walking over to their house, because they didn't have any other transportation option either. and when they did, my grandma sent them back refusing to say a single word?! my grandpa had to do the explaining that she didnt want to stay in my parents' apartment because she felt like going home and they had to take me with them, but also according to her they were unfit parents so she'd be handling it from now. i dont know when they got me back or how.

this woman has done some insane shit throughout my life that one ask wont cover. maybe 3-4 lmao. but i thought she was maybe losing her mind in her old age over the last decade (shes in her 80s). but apparently not. and then both my parents revealed she'd been trying to mess with their marriage in many ways ever since they got married over 30 years ago. god knows why, but she had also been manipulating my grandpa while he was alive to get her way. he'd been apologizing to his sons for her actions for years, all behind her back. (once upon a time i wanted taylor to write a song about this crazy woman; right now i need kendrick to go in with "master manipulator" lines lmao).

my parents didnt get why we hadn't revealed this earlier, it's been happening for two years now, but we were never 100% sure that it really was my grandma calling her up that often because of the empty call logs. a lot of the shitty stuff my mil would say about various members of my family lines up with what ive heard her say throughout the years, but not everything. she's never talked shit about my mom or cousin for instance. i kept trying to prod my parents the last six months by hinting my grandma and mil seem to talk but they were oblivious to my hints, thought i was joking.

i hope i get a job out of this country this month and never see any of them again once i move. i desperately need to be away from crazy, and if it bothers any of them, they can go at each other's throats for all i care.
