i wanna hear the rant
go go go
tell us how you feel now that you finished h50
(Danny ;_; )
dhdjfkkd where do I even startttt
I just get so mad when I think about how literally the whole show Steve is saying that hawaii is his home, the team is ohana, blah blah blah. Even when he talked to Tani about chin in season 8 he told her something like “the thing about Hawaii is that no matter how far you go it always pulls you back home” (something along those lines). And then he left 😭
I knew how the show would end when I started, so I was always like how could they justify Steve’s decision to leave…and then they killed Joe, and then Doris, and after 10x7 Steve was just so depressed and there was an obvious shift that I could tell that they were foreshadowing his leaving and just piling on bad thing after bad thing to make it be like “okay ya he has to have a break from this place”. And honestly I don’t completely mind the idea of him needing to take some time away for himself to just process everything and just have a break, I just don’t like how permanent the show made it feel.
Now the Catherine of it all, let me just say I DONT hate her by any means! I just don’t think she is right for Steve romantically AT ALL considering everything that happened between them on the show. I would have supported them staying friends, that would be nice, but as Alex O’loughlin said, Steve would be “an idiot” to take her back. Either way, she should not have been on that plane, Steve should have been alone for whatever journey he was going to go on (or with Danny lol)
I’m also lowkey upset they didn’t have Danny officially retire at the end of the show. He’s been talking about retirement since s8 so I think that would have been some nice closure for his storyline to wrap up.
I’m just going to imagine that Steve does come back (sooner rather than later hopefully) and him and Danny truly do get to grow old watching the sunsets together, just like Steve said he imagined and like Danny dreamed about :(
Danny’s dream when he got shot…that should have been the canon finale of the show it would have been perfect. Even if it was like after some time passed of him taking time away they should have done like some kind of time skip.
I did really like the victor hesse/wo fat stuff
Danno is my pookie and he needs hugs
Anyways, thanks for indulging me. I have no one to talk about this to irl since no one ik watches this show so this is my outlet 😂

The last episode of Moonlight was okay, it wasn't my favorite of the whole show but it wasn't terrible. (I've also rewatched it already 🙈🙈) I haven't seen Three Rivers, so maybe I'll start watching it tomorrow. I'm finishing up season 8 right now of H50. And you're 1000% correct that the ending of H50 really bothers me, so I'm just gonna take my time now to finish it.
lmao 🙈 well that's good ! at least the ending was ok and not terrible I hate when a show is ruined by the final or worse not having any resolution at all 😠

McDanno and the neverending story of a restaurant that is nothing more than a construction site - Pics from H50 episode 8.25 season finale
Dear TPTB do us all a favor and kill off the restaurant plot. After 25 episodes we still got nowhere with it. It takes up a lot of precious screentime. McDanno seems to be reduced to this neverending construction site, and they are barely working cases together anymore. While the team is hunting down Hawaii’s most wanted, Danny is doomed to find himself involved in lively discussions with Uncle Vito (this character added nothing to the show IMHO) at the said construction site.
Statement of PL about the restaurant plot at the beginning of season 8. Guess as EP he knew all along that this was never going to happen. Episode 8.10 would’ve worked out well without this restaurant drama. It is nothing but a dangling carrot (like so many other things on the show, meanwhile) to keep us tuning in. Only, we are not stupid, and by now it would be time to either proceed swiftly with it or let it die once and for all. I don’t mind Vito's solution of burning down the place (at least the character was good for this one line). It could happen accidentally or as revenge from a former perp... Just saying.
Pretty please don’t drag that into season 9, we had enough of it already and want the boys (if they are on board) back on the streets TOGETHER; SOLVING CRIMES!
Pardon my little rant, but I am so fed up with this part of the show as it really leads nowhere. And it is no longer funny or anything close to it.

Top 10 McDanno moments
oh dude, making an actual list like that would take me a day, because i’m Very Bad at picking favorites and also because there’s like, literally ten seasons’ worth of moments to choose from in the first place.
a few strong contenders off the top of my head, though, in no particular order:
d: “what’s the matter with you?” / s: “i love you.” for the fact that it’s a) still a totally insane sequence of words, b) one of their three mutual i love yous on screen, which is good anyway, and c) wonderful pining steve material, as well as just, potentially the most honest reflection on their relationship from steve’s side that we ever got
pretty much the entire episode where they transport that nuclear bomb through the jungle. steve’s snooping, the first scene where they have their relationship argument in front of an entire class of innocent academy students, the “are you comparing our relationship to my failed marriage?”, the bit where danny tells steve not to say anything and steve sneaks in an i love you anyway, the bit where steve calls danny a beloved curmudgeon, when they’re squeezed under the truck together, when steve asks danny to name his friggin’ restaurant for him and rambles about being together even when they’re not together (restaurants and boats, if you name them after a person people are absolutely going to assume it’s your spouse), That Look steve throws at danny through the window at the very end of the episode.
when danny tells steve he’s a half-baked cookie and goes “that’s why i love you, babe”, because it’s just. it’s a lot.
actually, the first time steve says he loves danny, when they’re trapped under that building! danny’s been nothing but incredibly negative and he builds this huge tension before telling steve he really really hates him and steve just laughs along and goes “i love you too” because he does and he knows danny, and then once they’re finally out steve waits until danny says it back.
“you don’t have to dance with me tonight” while they’re sitting unnecessarily close together during max’s going away party, purely for the fact that i was so convinced i must have heard that wrong the first time i watched it that i went back three times. it was still the same. i still don’t know how that made it into the episode.
when danny talks about coming into work one day and seeing your partner in a different light, and he goes “know what i mean?” and steve is all quiet and says “i do”. also when steve keeps offering to go everywhere with danny that episode while danny confides in him. the episode in which danny says he once fell for his partner after he had spent every day with her and she was the only person he confided in. that episode.
season 10, maybe just, uh, in its entirety. sunshine, emotional support friend, danny being the person everyone goes to if they’re worried about steve, bad guys knowing to target danny if they want to hit steve where it hurts, moving in, sharing beds, parent-teacher meetings, the extremely half-hearted attempts at dating other people, valentine’s day cuddles, “it’s kinda like his love language for me” - season 10 truly has it all.

steve and danny somehow encounter the very tired “it’s adam and eve, not adam and steve” slogan (in the middle of interrogating someone for one of their rare cases where queer people do exist, probably) and steve’s like “oh god yes, not adam and steve. i don’t think of adam like that, and i wouldn’t want to marry anyone besides danny anyway” and danny’s like “wait, you wanna marry me?” and that’s how they figure out steve may have a ring hidden in his sock drawer.
(danny: “that’s OUR sock drawer. we share that drawer. that is not a good hiding place! who put you in charge of anything?” steve, who spent the last two months silently hoping danny would “accidentally” find the ring box and call him out on exactly this because whatever danny may say, their ideas of romance definitely overlap in the “bickering over socks and inconsequentially bad plans” department: “ah, you say that, but you didn’t find it, did you? did you even look?” danny: “why would i look for rings in my socks! why do i want to spend the rest of my life with you so badly when your brain is so weird!” their suspect, who is still cuffed to a chair next to them and has the uncomfortable feeling he just got them engaged with his homophobic rhetoric: “???”)

danny: i’m staying at steve’s temporarily.
danny: so it’s a temporary thing, you know.
danny: just until one of us dies of old age.

concept: danny comes to steve and is like “do we have an hr department?” and steve’s like “... do you want to file a complaint? i’m barely even your boss, you almost never do what i say” and danny’s like “no. i’m considering a change in relationship status and i don’t want us to get fired” and steve’s like “did you say us?” and that’s the wildly romantic story of how danny asked steve out for the first time.

season 10 is just so wild. danny sets steve up on dates but then doesn’t let him actually go on a date without calling and texting every five seconds, steve dutifully tries to ask out women but keeps mentioning how much he loves danny and that they’re married, and then danny flies across the country because steve’s mother died, suggests they could sleep in the same bed and moves in with steve maybe a week later, and steve’s just like “sssh, lou, don’t tell danny i know he’s making shit up because he might change his mind” and lets danny live with him for months. they never truly talk about what happened to danny’s house and if he might ever need to go back. there are random episodes where we are reminded that they’re both totally still interested in dating women, 100% for sure definitely, but actual potential girlfriends are an afterthought, and steve ends up turning a valentine’s date into a team movie night so he has an excuse to stick close to danny, literally, because he cuddles up between danny and his actual supposed date on the couch. the last episode tells us danny is the person steve cares about most in the world, in those precise words, and shows us that steve would try to enter a car that is on actual real fire to get to danny, and also that danny, who’s consistently been characterized as someone who can’t be happy because his anxiety keeps him too stressed all the time, is in fact now pretty happy with life. now, as in, after he didn’t get back together with rachel but instead moved in with steve with seemingly no intention to ever move back out. all of this is literal canon text, and then i didn’t even get into the easy implication that danny might be sleeping in steve’s bed some of the time after moving in because canon made a whole point of telling us there were no beds free and danny didn’t want to sleep on the couch.

Ship Game
I was tagged by the lovely tagging partner @lavellenchanted 🥰 Thank you, Sarah!
The rules were to answer each question with a gif (with no repeats - which I interpret as no repeat of the ship, not the fandom). I’m tagging: @founderofshield, @geraltsays, @formerlyir, @quiquimora, @sersi, @sevensneakyfoxes, @doctorhelena
(I made the gifs, because I’m in bed anyway, but it’s absolutely not expected!)
More about the pairings and my feels under the cut
1. First Ship ↳ Sorsha/Madmartigan (Willow)
That’s the first on-screen couple which I was interested about in terms of them ending up together. I was still a kid then, but I remember hoping they become a couple at the end of the movie.
2. First OTP ↳ Liz/Michael (Roswell)
And first rare pair at that, ha! The original Roswell was my first fandom I ever wrote any fics for and these two were my thing. I don’t even remember how it came to be, tbh. I just never liked Max and somehow any other canon boyfriend Liz had was never satisfying. Also I think I had a phase for brooding, lonely type that Michael represented. Teenage years, what can I say.
3. Current Fave Ship ↳ Geralt/Yen (The Witcher)
Loved them in books and thankfully the show didn’t disappoint. Sure, I think some things could’ve been improved, but overall I’m not complaining much. And I can’t wait for what season two will bring.
4. Your Ship Since the First Minute ↳ Cath/Steve (H50)
The scene in the gif isn’t their first onscreen scene, I just chose it because it’s one of my fave. But really, the moment Steve mentioned Cath in season one and we got a short glimpse of her, I was instantly “I need more of her. And of the two of them.” And my love grew stronger the more fandom hated on her (and boy, they were absolutely disgusting and awful).
5. Ship You Wish Had Been Endgame ↳ Clarke/Bellamy (The 100)
I admit I didn’t even watch the final season, but I’ve checked what happens and I was not impressed. They’ve built them up and allowed them growth only to fuck it up in the end. Disappointing. For me they had amazing chemistry and deserved to be the endgame.
6. Ship You Wish Was Canon ↳ Finn/Poe (Star Wars)
Listen, when I saw the movie for the first time I fell head over heels for Finn and Poe. I had high hopes for them in the next movies. Though a part of me knew Disney won’t have the balls to show a lot, I did hope to have them on the first lines and developing further. Instead, not only their relationship, but also characters individually were done so wrong.
7. Ship that Most of the Fandom Hates, but You Love
↳ Bucky/Peggy (MCU)
Listen, you can try to pry Bucky and Peggy from my cold, dead hands, but even then I won’t give up. They are my most precious rare pair and I will die on that hill. First of all, they’re too amazing not to ship them. Secondly, I wholeheartedly believe they’d have an amazing relationship if they got more screen time together. As a ship maybe they’re not exactly hated by fandom, but they’re not popular at all. The saddest part is that Bucky fans majorly hate on Peggy and vice versa, all because of Steve who canonically loves them both. I’m just like Steve - I love them both.
8. You Don’t Even Watch the Show, but You Ship It ↳ David/Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)
I haven’t seen a single episode of the show (yes, yes, I know it’s great and all, I just never had the opportunity to see it), but I saw many gifs on my dash. Including those of David and Patrick, and I find them cute.
9. Ship That You Wish Had a Different Storyline ↳ Jax/Tara (Sons of Anarchy)
Yeah, I wish they had a storyline that didn’t include Tara’s death! Also wish all that post-prison stuff in a way perished. Honestly, I wish they had a different storyline post season 3/4, instead of becoming darker, colder, more awful. The edgy, brutal atmosphere of the show became too much and was overdone at that point, in my opinion.
10. Fave Ship That’s Endgame ↳ Peggy/Steve (MCU)
How could I not pick them?! :) They’re the ship of ships. My greatest treasure. Love of my life. Some people move on from ship to ship, but for me they’re endgame and always will be. And they got their well deserved happy ending.

I’ve been dragging my oldest daughter through Hawaii Five-0 episodes and every time there is a McDanno moment (heart-eyes, flirting, what have you) her first response is “OMG they are so cute” followed quickly by “UGH THIS QUEERBAITING PISSES ME OFF. FUCK YOU CBS”
Same, dear one. Same.

Crossed Lines AO3 Link
MI-5 Agent Harry Langford seems to turn Danny’s head anytime he shows up, which doesn’t exactly make Steve happy. This story spans across all four episodes/seasons and the impact Harry has on Danny’s relationship with his partner.
This story is dedicated to @grindy-cog who told me someone should write about this and I decided that someone would be me.

To celebrate 2021, I’m posting (and reposting if you’re followed me a while) my favorite fanvids of all time for my various fandoms.
First off, McDanno, because following the shit-show finale, I was finally inspired to write my first fic in 4 years because I HAD TO FIX THAT SHIT. There are many excellent McDanno vids but I love this one because the song is perfect.
youtube
This is my favorite SPN ones because while I ship Destiel, I actually do understand why people ship Dean with, well, pretty much anyone. Because Jensen Ackles just exudes sexual energy and this vid proves it. If you ship Dean with someone other than Cas, I get it because I have no trouble imagining Dean *tapping that*, no matter who it is.
youtube
I have many MCU videos that I love because more than another fandom, they have their editing *tight*. Glitter and Gold gets a lot of well-deserved props, but this one is excellent and touches on the heart inside every MCU hero.
youtube
My favorite Starsky and Hutch video was inspired from another video that aired at a con (yes, S&H fandom has cons!) and it’s one I adore because I have a deep soft-spot for the Tornio, but also for the boys.
youtube
This Harry Potter vid is one of the first fanvids I recall watching over and over. It’s one of my fav. One Republic songs, and it gets to the heart of what that series was for me: it’s a war story.
youtube
This vid of Han/Leia is special because it captures exactly what 10 year-old me was captivated by after Empire came out and why they will be the forever ship of my teen years.
youtube
This song is MADE for fanvids and I have seen it used for several ships, but I like this one for Johnlock because that is one ship where the canon seems to inspire the lyrics the most.

Ok, I’ve been puzzled by this. Here, and in another shot of Sam and Bucky on the plane, Bucky is wearing dog tags.
BUT it’s fully established that he’s not current military and there would be NO reason for Hydra to have kept his WWII dog tags on him because they didn’t want him to ever remember who he truly was, plus it’s been DECADES so if not destroyed in the 40’s, certainly lost.
BUT Steve had his dog tags on when he crashed into the ice so they were recovered when he was thawed and they would be among his belongings.
THEREFORE Bucky is wearing Steve’s dog tags.

Yaaaay, ask game!
2, 16, 18
yes, I'm finally back! 😂 thanks for going easy on me on my triumphant return 💖
2. show you watch casually?
what do we mean by casual? If it means not watching every episode, only watching on the tv sometimes, than I'd say pretty much all the general cop shows you can find everywhere, with Hungarian dub. there are ridiculously lot of them. but by now they are mostly reruns and watching them means more criticising all the bullshit I didn't notice before. if casual means watching weekly but not interacting with the fandom, then... idk. with every show I watch, even if I'm not actively in the fandom, I check out the posts sometimes or blog about it.
I'd say most of the shows I watch are casual watches.
16. show you despise but still watch?
oh damn... okay, sometimes I talk shit about shows and still watch them. it's all (affectionate), you know? I can't really think of one, because usually if a show seriously upsets or annoys me for longer than a few episodes, I just. don't watch it anymore. yeah, I know, groundbreaking.
actually, thinking about it, I'd say Hawaii Five-O. A few years ago mom and I started binging it, and I loved it, but by season...5-6-ish, it got.... not as enjoyable. by season 7 and 8 I was watching it purely for Kono and Tani, and I mercilessly roasted every episode. I rarely talk (read: shout) as much at my tv as I did with H50. we still have s10 to watch as it wasn't out back then, so I guess technically I'm still watching it kinda??
18. show you dont understand the hype for?
Game of Thrones. just... no
at the beginning I could kinda understand why people would love it, even if it wasn't for me, but then it got ridiculously bad.
but for most shows I can understand the hype, I just don't share it.

h50 asks - 12, 29, 31, 39, 50 - is that too many?
No, it’s never too many questions!
#12 insight on h50 that you always wanted to share but were shy or unsure
Oof... I cant think of anything unfortunately :( I have a small brain.
#29 the core four or the seasons 8-10 ohana?
Core four, all the way. I love the new team don’t get me wrong. But Kono, Chin, and the McDanno boys will always be my favorites. Their dynamic with each other was awesome. I love the trust and life they built with/for each other throughout the seven seasons.
#31 if you could save one character who’s died, who would you save and why?
I immediately said Toast. I still get a little broken up over his death. Especially Steve hearing it over a phone call? What the hell?
This goes along with a potential ‘second person to bring back alive’. I would bring back John, Steve’s father. (Another person Steve heard die over the phone.) I’m very curious on how he’d be written. Also how he’d react to 5-0 (With Chin being on the team, and especially John meeting Danny.)
#39 favorite gag reel moment
It’s from the season 4 gag reel. Scott and Alex were doing Italian accents (?) and basically they’re yelling, laughing, and smiling hugely.
Here’s the moment
#50 That One Case you still remember vividly because it was brilliant
I don’t know if it’s necessarily brilliant. But this episode always hits me hard. 7x25 (the season 7 finale) where Kono gets completely broken up over the sex trafficking. She’s determined, and she goes hard in that episode. Meanwhile Steve is the one standing behind, watching her beat everyone’s asses.
Thank you for the ask !

Any idea why there's been no new Magnum PI for bloody ages? Sorry to ask kind of out of nowhere, you're just one of the blogs I go to for nice gifsets, so I know you're a fan!
hey! yes so macgyver is another one of peter lenkov’s shows and it had pretty bad ratings so it got pushed to a midseason premiere and magnum took it’s spot. now it’s taken hawaii 5-0′s spot at 8 and h50 took magnums place at 9. still following? neither is anyone else
so april 3rd is the h50 season finale, meaning the 9pm slot opens back up and magnum returns on april 10th (for a promised v-day episode in april but its fine im not bitter at all)
could they have put macgyver on on ANY OTHER DAY OR TIME? yes, but we’re assuming peter and cbs thought ‘hey maybe we can trick these fools into watching macgyver bc we have interrupted their whole friday night viewing plans and they’ll have nothing else to watch so they might as well’. to which i say rude and also not happening.
no its not out of nowhere at all! and aww tysm <3 i get all of my insider information from @hpfangirl13 bc lord knows i cant keep up these days and she's the ultimate queen of magnum info (srsly one time i texted her and asked which episode had hannah flashbacks and she gave me the ep # in under 5seconds)
#asks#magnum pi#i answered this like 3x and it wouldnt post so if all of a sudden 3 of these pop up my bad

“Don’t Leave” | Alex O’Loughlin One-Shot
Requested by @beccamcgarrettalex15
Request: I have a Alex O'loughlin request what if you are at the airport after you have visited the set of H50 and Alex comes running after you and says please don't go I want you to stay and we get to know each other
A/N: The beginning of the one-shot is set in Season 3 and flash forwards to Season 8.
Y/N and her friends were handpicked to visit the set of H50 due to the contest. Y/N was so happy because she can finally see what it is like to be on the set of H50 and be in Hawaii at the same time. Hawaii has actually been a place she wanted to visit since she was little.
When they arrived to the set, they were given a tour by one of the assistants of the show. While walking by one of the sets, Alex spots you from the distance and he seems to be entranced by you and your beauty.
After the long the day and the next couple days, it was time for Y/N and her friends to leave. They were in the airport waiting to go abroad of the plane.
When they hear, “Hey, Y/N.”
They all turn around to see Alex O’Loughlin running towards them.
He continues, “Please don’t go. I want to get to know.”
Y/N were shocked by this since he was celebrity and normally celebrities don’t usually interact with the guests of the set and now he wants to get to know Y/N.
Y/N nods, “Sure. Hey Y/BF/N can you tell my boss that I won’t be coming back.”
Y/N’s best friend nods. Y/N leaves with Alex while her friends stayed and waited for the plane. Y/N wasn’t planning to head back to home town in Iowa due to her being asked by her favorite actor to stay.
Time Skip... 5 years later
Y/N walks onto set to meet with Alex. They have been dating for the past four years since she stayed in Hawaii and actually got a job on the set of H50 as a makeup artist. She had her some news for Alex. Today was also a day off for her since she wanted a couple days of rest.
She walks up towards Alex’s trailer and knocks.
She hears, “Come in.”
She walks in and sees Alex resting on his couch.
She starts off by saying, “I have some news for you.”
Alex responds, “Okay whats the news.”
Y/N starts off, “I’m pregnant.”
Alex smiles and gets up and hugs you. All from winning that contest, you are happy with someone who actually cares about you and gives you a chance.

Some thoughts on the H50 season 7 finale (SPOILERS)
I’ve been thinking about this radiation sickness thing.
Okay, thinking isn’t the right word. The Danny in my head is sick with it, even though I’ve already promised him that it’s not going anywhere near any of the fic lands I’ve already written. The fact that there’s a Danny out there SOMEWHERE who’s facing the idea of losing his Steve forever is more than either he or I can really handle, and we both try to avoid each other so we don’t combine into some sort of Super Worrier Panic Death Spiral.
But my inner writer has been chewing over it for entirely different reasons. H50’s grasp of proper medicine is only slightly higher than my six-year-old niece’s, and it’s entirely possible they’ll just hand wave this away they way they do everything else. If that happens, both my inner Danny and I will breathe an enormous sigh of relief. But if they don’t, the plot just doesn’t make a lot of sense from a writerly standpoint.
Because the thing is, in the terms of crime fighting television, it’s an extremely *weird* narrative choice. Because I can totally believe the writers are capable of killing off Steve for good, esp. since Alex has expressed an interest in leaving the show at the end of season 8 (if writing is the Force, TV writers are absolutely on the Dark Side), but killing him slowly makes no *sense* according to the show’s format.
The show is entirely structured around action, with smaller character moments stuffed in between - if you have Steve slowly dying in a hospital bed for even a full half season, or even stuck in the office, they might as well not have him there at all. Steve basically *is* action (and heartbreaking facial expressions). The show is basically designed to kill Steve quickly and dramatically - an explosion, some sort of terrorist attack, an unlucky shot, any of the things they *almost* do to him on a regular basis. *That’s* the kind of dramatic television that H50 is designed to handle. Even “Breaking Bad” ended up with the character going out in a blaze of glory, not slowly in a hospital bed. And if they were just going to shoot Steve, why bother with this at all? They’ve never explored the idea of physical consequences for Steve at any point in the past 7 years. Why start now?
And that’s not even covering the problem of Danny. Whether or not you ship them, the show has made it painfully clear over the last season that Danny and Steve’s bond (or their shared bond with Danny’s children) is their go-to plot anytime they need to do anything vaguely deep with either character. It was the major emotional beat for the season 6 finale, and almost every single one of Steve’s emotions in the season 7 finale were either filtered through Danny or tied to him directly (listing every other instance this happened in season 7 would make for *way* too long a post, but if you want feel free to message me).
In short, a dying Steve will equal a Danny that’s worried sick to the point of losing his mind. The more obviously Steve is dying, the more constantly and deeply terrified Danny will be. The show knows this - the last shot in this last season was of Danny looking sick with worry - but if they seriously hit Steve with the dying thing next season they’ve essentially taken out two full characters from their day-to-day case plots. Not that it isn’t theoretically possible, but it makes no *sense.* Which, I think, is why you don’t see a lot of potentially terminal illness-type plots from the main characters in action/crime TV shows.
You know where you do see them, though? In the *fanfic* for those shows. Nearly every slash pairing I can think of has at *least* one really good, well-known, recommended-to-everyone fic where one character helps them through a potentially terminal illness and they confirm their love while navigating the changing relationship. And that’s just with the iconic fics - there are probably dozens of other less-well-known ones for at least most of the ships. It’s a *thing,* mostly because it lets the author squeeze in all kinds of heartbreaking, angst, intimately emotional moments between the two main characters. It’s practically a recipe for it, especially if you care as little about medicinal accuracy as the 5-0 writers clearly do. The shadow of death is always good for emotional conversations, whether or not you worry about those pesky hospital scenes.
I hope desperately that this means that their exit strategy for Steve isn’t death, but retirement (with Danny, I double-hope) to enjoy whatever time he has left. They started setting up Danny’s exit plan before Steve’s, and Afghanistan made it pretty clear that if you need Steve to do something he wouldn’t normally do you have to have Danny be the one to do it (he never would have left Catherine fighting insurgents on her own if Danny hadn’t been the one to say “come home,” and the writers sent Danny to Afghanistan because they knew this) I’m sure Steve planned on dying in the saddle, so to speak, but this is big enough to make Danny cast his veto powers without them having to officially confirm a relationship. If Danny told Steve to come retire with him and work in the restaurant, it’s clear that Steve would jump at the chance.
Honestly, I don’t trust the writers further than I can throw them, and because my arms are small and weak I can’t throw them very far. They could still easily kill him quickly, even though that would still lose them Danny (esp. with the retirement thing, there’s no way Danny would stay with the team after Steve dies).
But... maybe. I hope.

Whump List Request
Tortured Hero; Helpless Team - Whump List (Request)
So, a while back I was asked to do a list of episodes that contain the whump scenario that we all know and love: our favorite character gets kidnapped and tortured and his friends/team are forced to sit by and watch helplessly, either in person or via video. Here’s the list! I’ll add more as I think of more, and if you have any recommendations please inbox me and I will add them to the list! Enjoy.
1. Quantico: Season 1 episode 9. Booth has already been shot and had field surgery performed on him by a very nervous Alex. Now, he’s been kidnapped and tortured as he hangs from a ceiling. Alex can do nothing for most of the episode. Worth it worth it worth. Even if it’s just for the agonized screams.
2. Banshee: Season 1 episode 10. Banshee has an abundance of torture scenes for our antihero, Lucas. However, the best one has to be in the season 1 finale; Rabbit kidnaps Lucas, ties him to a chair and tortures him. His friends finally come to the rescue but not before Rabbit inflicts serious damage to Lucas.
3. Frontier: season 1 episode 5. Yes. Yes, I am well aware that I will find any excuse to include Frontier in any sort of post I make. No. No, I am not sorry, nor is it likely that I will stop doing this. Anyway, so Harp is kidnapped/arrested in front of his friends. He is then brutally tortured both emotionally and physically. His team misses most of the torture. But, Michael is brought in just in time to witness Harp at his lowest point: crying, yelling, screaming, and fucking bleeding all over the fucking place as he hangs from the ceiling. It clearly scares Michael to see him like that. It fucks with your emotions, man.
4. Homeland: season 5 episode 10. Quinn is god-knows-where, tied up and looking slightly worse for wear. He’s poisoned, and Carrie is forced to watch it in video format as he splutters, convulses, soils himself, and eventually collapses. It’s great acting all round, and pretty good whump if you’re into that kind of thing.
5. Outlander: season 1 episode 15. I really don’t think I could ever explain just how glorious this show is when it comes to whump and plot and characters. Jamie is shot; his shoulder is dislocated; he’s stabbed; he’s tortured. (Reminder to self: do a fucking twenty-page-long whump description of this show.) Anyway, the torture in this episode is insane. He’s taken by his arch nemesis, and his hand is smashed with a mallet and nailed to a table. This is done because his wife comes to save him after he’s taken, but they are caught before they can escape and - in an act to save his wife’s life - Jamie swears that he will give into Randall’s (aforementioned arch nemesis) wish to have his way with Jamie. In order to prove that his word is true, he allows Randall to nail his already shattered hand to the table as his wife, Claire, watches. It’s amazing acting and wonderful whump, but it is hard to watch, even for the most seasoned of whumpers. This torture scene has an abundance of pained cries and shattered bones, blood and gore… bruises everywhere; there’s enough of his loved ones watching this go down. (NOTE: the whump in the book is even harsher and far more detailed than the show. Read the books.) HOWEVER. This episode is unsettling because it details the rape and defamation of a character that you cannot help but love. This strong, gorgeous, stubborn man is reduced to nothing as he lets his past tormentor rape him over and over again. It’s terrible. It really is.
6. Outlander: season 1 episode 6. This episode is almost as hard to watch as the previously mentioned one. Jamie (who has already been flogged once before) is taken to be lashed one-hundred times. A crowd - consisting of strangers as well as his father and uncle - has gathered to watch. He is whipped until he is unconscious, hanging in a pool of his own blood, his back literally ripped to shreds. It’s not pretty; the makeup is fucking fantastic and just looking at his back - dangling skin and exposed bone - is sickening. The crowd can hardly watch… his father even has a heart attack. This show is amazing, but it’s certainly not light-hearted at times. Seriously, guys, why haven’t I done a whump profile for this yet?
7. Firefly: season 1 episode 10. Mal and Wash are kidnapped by Niska. They’re electrocuted over and over again. Zoe comes to save them but she’s only able to save Wash. Niska cuts off Mal’s ear and hands it to Zoe as a souvenir. Niska ends up torturing Mal until the latter dies, and Niska has to revive him once again. By the time his team arrives, Mal is a mess. Whilst his team misses most of the torture, Wash witnessed Mal suffering, and so does Zoe for a while. This show is great regardless, so I would watch it. There’s tons of whump in it.
8. Braveheart. So I’m pretty sure that everyone’s heard about this movie, which means that most people have heard about the brutal torture scene. Wallace is hanged, drawn and quartered as a horrified crowd (including two of his closest friends) watch. They can do nothing to stop it or help him other than to cry out for mercy, even when Wallace refuses to beg for it himself. This movie is most definitely worth it, and not just for the torture scene. I think this movie is a little harder to watch because it’s based on what we can only assume is a real historical figure (too many debates surrounding that topic even to go into); that said, it’s certainly the kind of movie that stays with you no matter what.
9. NCIS: Los Angeles. Season 4 episode 24. Deeks and Sam are kidnapped. They are then tortured - electrocution and teeth-drilling - and forced to watch each other in pain, and hear each other scream. They get rescued but not before the damage is done.
10. Reservoir Dogs. I watched this movie years ago… I think I might’ve been around 14 at the time so my memory is slightly fuzzy but I’ll do my best. There’s this fucking gruesome torture scene where Mr Blonde proves just how much of a sadistic sonofabitch he can be. Plus one of the characters gets shot in the stomach and spends the whole movie dying slowly as he bleeds out. He does not, however, die quietly despite his friends’ pleads.
11. Chicago PD. Season 3 episode 01. Jay Halstead - what a specimen of a man - is kidnapped and tortured. His team is forced to stand by and watch helplessly as this happens. He's hot and he whumps so well. Best part is: at the end of the episode, even though he can hardly stand or walk, he manages to fight through the pain one last time and save the day. I would like to thank @whumpified for the suggestion.
**Honorable Mention: Once Upon a Time. Season 5 episodes 12 - 15 (5x12 - 5x15). Hook - who is fucking gorgeous - is killed for the sake of greater good, and winds up in the underworld. We don’t see the torture but we get a slight glimpse of him initially while Emma looks for him; he’s covered in blood. When we get a closer look, he’s still covered in blood, but the one side of his face is also completely bruised and swollen, he can’t place any weight on his one leg, and his arm remains wrapped around his ribs. He can hardly breathe, nevermind walk or talk; queue the multiple pained gasps and strained wheezes. He gets captured by Hades and strung up with chains. Emma finds him hanging there, trembling and unable even to react when she calls his name. He spends the next episode and a half needing help from Emma to walk and stand as the team tries to find a way to get back out of the underworld. The reason this is an honorable mention is because: whilst the actual torture itself is lacking, the whump is fantastic! Really such a great example of whump done right.
Guys, honestly, I’m struggling with this list. I can think of a shit ton of shows where the character is tortured (Banshee, H50, Once Upon a Time, The Red Road - sorta, Payback, Conspiracy Theory) but not many of them actually include the team watching helplessly. Please, if you think of any other shows, let me know! I’ll add them to the list. Sorry about the lack of shows/movies on this list; my brain has turned to literal fucking mush.
