Suo’s another rookie taking on the Gym Challenge in the same year as Sakura, and his party is (I think) a pretty good reflection of who he is as a person. Or, anyway, who he wants people to think he is. (With the exception of Plusle but we’ll get to that in a moment)
Mienshao as his partner pokemon hit me like a slap in the face, not gonna lie. Like, it was the first concrete thing I had for him and the image of them pulling matching fighting poses would not leave my mind. So it had to happen. And if you can look me in the eye and tell me they weren’t made for each other — then we’ll duel at dawn, I guess. Bring your switch and we can go at each other in Sword/Shield.
The rest of the team is what prompted some enterprising magazine to dub him “Most Elegant Rookie,” with each one more beautiful and stylish than the last. He’s likely not interested in evolving his Dragonair at this point, and Dragonair’s more than fine with that. It gets around fine whether it’s on land, in the water, or in the air. Mawile’s a charming addition with a very literal “hidden side�� so you know I had fun giving it to Suo. Vulpix is the little princess of the team, and the one Nirei dotes on the most. You can usually find it on Suo’s shoulder or cuddled in Nirei’s arms, or poking out of one of their backpacks as they travel together. It’s Suo’s youngest Pokemon, having hatched from an egg (which he obtained from winning a contest he chose to join on a whim) fairly recently.
Plusle is a match to Nirei’s Minun! They caught them together on one of Nirei’s research expeditions he asked Suo to join him on, and on the rare occasions they double battle with another set of trainers, Suo always brings his Plusle out so they can support one another. Y’know, the whole hand clapping deal, because it’s cute as fuck and was the second suo-related thing I couldn’t get out of my head.

Vaniville Town. Arcues, Serena thought it would have changed in the time they’d been gone, but it hadn’t. Granted, she hadn’t lived in the town very long before settling off with Fennekin, but still she’d thought the town would change — had it been a year and six months or a year and seven? She couldn’t remember anymore, having lost track somewhere around the third Gym and second Showcase. She’d ask Calem. He’d know, he always knew. Sometimes she even thought he’d been counting the days since they’d met — but it hadn’t. It remained the same. Nearly. Serena wouldn’t let herself forget the darkened houses down the street, wouldn’t let herself forget the gravestones with freshly planted flowers.
She couldn’t have forgotten what happened to her friends even if she had wanted to. She didn’t sleep anymore. Not really. Neither of them did.
“And here’s the house, obviously.” Grace seemed almost nervous to be around her, her eyes never settling on any particular part of Serena, as if the famous Rayhorn-racer couldn’t decide what horrified her most about her daughter’s appearance, her scars or the vacant, hollow look in the pale gray eyes they shared (there was a reason Serena didn’t look in mirrors anymore).
The house looked the same, much as the town did. Two stories, two front windows, one door. The carefully tended garden had changed, however, the perfectly sculpted bushes switched out for five-pedaled, yellow flowers.
“Ryhorn’s at the Pokémon center, some new trainer thought it was a wild Pokémon and attacked it while it was grazing out in the pasture.” Grace said as she followed Serena‘s gaze to the empty picnic blanket in the corner of the front yard. “Fletching is around here somewhere — Fletchling, our baby came home! Where are you?”
Fletchling chirped a sweet melody as it hopped into view, fluttering down from a branch in the largest tree in the garden to settle on Grace’s shoulder.
“There you are.” Grace sing-songed in the baby-talk voice she only used for her Pokémon and very small children. “There you are.”
The porch lights caught the strands of gray in Grace’s short hair as she bent her head over the lock. Lock? Gray hairs? Serena knew those were her fault. She might have frowned before, might have felt something that wasn’t faint and removed, but she didn’t frown, didn’t feel.
Grace and Fletchling disappeared into the house, Grace calling back over her shoulder that she’d already cooked dinner and purchased Pokéfood from the local Poké Mart.
Serena took a deep breath, squeezed Calem’s hand, and stepped into her mother’s house.

-He gets so into the theories and lore, but he's absolutely shit at playing the game he couldn't get past night 2 of the first fnaf game I shit you not
•Hilbert couldn't care less abt the lore, and he's also pretty good w almost all of the games except SL
-SL creeps him out more than UCN, said he doesn't like listening to Baby's voice and doesn't like how she looks
-he's horrible at noticing the sudden change in ambiance tho as he's so focused on looking at the animatronics
•Bianca doesn't like playing the main games but loves playing fnaf world, she loves their lil chibi models
-surprisingly enough, Bianca likes the Nightmare animatronics more, even their actual models, said that they're like the dragons, looks scary but are actually sweet
-that what she says anyways so she wouldn't be that scared
•Iris is the only one between all six of them to ever beat UCN and Hilbert is so salty abt it bc he couldnt understand everything that's going on w it hahah
-she did say tho that since Geeta was also a fan of it, she taught her all the strategies she needs to know to beat the game
•they made N play the fourth game once, never again after he said it reminded him of his time in his room back at Plasma's Castle
-he played the second game and ended up losing almost every time bc he said he likes the sound of the music box and would always keep playing it
•Hilda loves SB and Ruin, she doesn't like the other games tho
-saying she doesn't like just staying on one place, and it was cool exploring in SB, seeing all the different attractions for herself, and even looking for clues abt the lore to inform Cheren abt it
-was a Roxy apologist in SB, so when Ruin came out her soul fucking ascended, cheering so loudly that Roxy got some sort of redemption arc, but also cried like crazy when she had to deactivate Roxy
-Hilbert has a video of her crying over that scene and he showed it to the others and Hilda said that Hilbert also cried when he saw Bonnie, and she has a video of it too
•while they have their preference over what group of animatronics are better, they can all agree that the Glamrock ones are the best

I think?? I might join a gym again?? there's a ladies only gym nearish my house that's on my bus route, loads of good reviews, and it's kind of expensive (at least compared to my last gym, however those were 2019 prices so maybe it's not notably expensive now?) BUT! I just switched my phone contract so I'm paying a month's gym membership less for my phone than before. so like. net zero outgoings change with added gym access.
do need to see if any of my pre covid gym clothes still fit lol, the leggings definitely don't, but maybe if I actually go more often this time (last gym was in the centre of town which felt like a trek for just that, I'm more likely to go more often bc it's not as far to go) I might actually get to keep some of my pre covid clothes lmao
