The first thing you notice is how cold the bed is. Still mostly into the grasp of sleep, you turn on your stomach, reaching out with a hand to seek your bedmate beside you.

"Gwyar, love?"

You find the other half of the bed empty.

Immediately, panic starts to grow inside you, dissipating quickly what remains of the restless dreams you had. Gwyar hadn't come as they promised, while you passed them in the eastern main hall. With the naked sincerity they always had while talking to you, they had promised to join you later.

But the bed is cold, so Gwyar didn't come at all.

You are half dressed and out of your bedchamber in moments. Like a beast that hunts the castle of Camelot, you pace the hall restlessly, panic and guilt making your vision cloud at the edges more than once.

No NO how could you let this happen to THEM-

You find three guards with their throats cut, one after the other.

You do not find Gwyar.

You do not find Gwyar.

OCtober day 18 - swap 🩸👼 (their original forms look like this!)

i went with "role in the story" for this one. i've thought abt this AU a bit before, but i think a lot of things would change if gwyar was sacrificed instead of claret…

The Cooler Claret spawned from a face monster and so i thought it would b cute to have gwyar mutate from a crimera! (<- objectively uncute thing to say). the monsters r somewhat significant bc they represent unfulfilled desires from when they were still ppl, like claret becoming strong enough to protect her home/family and gwyar's desire to be free (hence y she can fly now).

even though claret emerges as an adult in canon, i chose to keep gwyar as a child in the swapped version bc it felt more fitting. clarets new role in the story is similar to gwyars in that she aims to purge the crimson, but where gwyar becomes quite apathetic, claret takes on a much crueler personality... 😔

Morgause (British Mythology): Bush of Bald?

The mother of Arthur's loyal knight Gawain as well as the traitor Mordred, Morgause is as mysterious and enigmatic as her many names imply. Varying sources call her Orcades, Anna, Cristina, or Gwyar. Her queenly realm is also variously identified as Orkney, Lothian, all of Scotland, or even Brittany. Even her exact relationship to Morgan and Arthur varies, with some calling her their sister and others their aunt.

Her slituation is less ambiguous if we dismiss the association with Brittany as an outlier. Orkney and the surrounding area were Pictish lands in Arthur's time. The so-called Picts were the only Britons who never surrendered to Roman rule and Roman customs. Their women were as hairy as highland cattle down there, which would be no secret, as they were known to occasionally fight naked.

I love my character Gwyar Cypress

I really wanna show you all Gwyar from my Bloodlines WIP, which a co-written with my friend/artist that does my Arigale artwork. Seriously, she's so hot. I think she is the hottest character I ever made. She's suave, she's cold-blooded against dicks, she's a singer at a tavern, she murders people she knows are up to no good by luring them to her house, usually drunk. She handles her own alcohol well. She's sultry and pan and knows what she wants and needs. She's got some deep seated trauma. She's a weird sort of half-born fae concept I made based somewhat on alraune myth (at least of their creation kinda) as well that makes her fae wings somewhat formed from viscera. She doesn't know much about herself and masquerades as a half-elf because it's easier with her ears and with wings hidden. She's got so much blood on her hands and no regrets. She looks like a goddess. I only have a sketch right now and it is planned to be colored and all at some point, but here.

(art by @fracturedfable - Twitter/dA) Also, her name has meaning like all my WIPs. Gwyar - Bloodshed Cypress - The type of tree she has a spiritual connection to on the hill outside town. A tree often planted around funeral plots. They are a classical symbol of mourning, but also they are a symbol for everlasting life. She carries on the wills of people who died in the town wrongfully and avenges them. Hopefully I have some colored art and can work on her Bloodlines WIP page more by end of the month as planned.

Some background for each!

Gwalchmai: The OG Gawain, slayer of giants in Welsh myth, besties with Owain and Peredur. He's known for his gold/silver tongue and is literally like The Best Boi. I am enamoured with him. Tells Cai to do one when Peredur gives him a broken arm. Also this passage single-handedly convinced me that Peredur and Gwalchmai are a couple: 'And Peredur and Gwalchmai went to Gwalchmai's pavilion to take off their armour. And Peredur put on the same kind of garment that Gwalchmai wore. And they went hand in hand to where Arthur was, and greeted him.' Thank u, Sioned Davies.

Branwen: Is the only woman in the Mabinogi to have a branch named after her. Literally the sweetest woman ever. Her dad is the sea God, Llŷr, and her brothers are Bendigeidfran and Manawydan. Trained a starling to send messages to Bendigeidfran to say she was being abused by the Irish court in an absolutely amazing move. Sadly she passes away once she's made it back to Wales alongside Manawydan, Pryderi, and five other men (and Bendigeidfran's severed head!) '"Oh son of God," she said, "woe that I was even born. Two good islands have been laid waste because of me!" She gives a mighty sigh and her heart breaks. And they make a four-sided grave for her and bury her there on the banks of the Alaw.'

Cai: OG Kay. Depending on what u read he is either the most renowned warrior ever - 'Prince of plunder/The unrelenting warrior to his enemy' as Pa Gur yv y Porthaur says - the possession of the most fuckin batshit magical powers as Culhwch ac Olwen relates: 'Cai had magical qualities. For nine days and nine nights, he could hold his breath under water. For nine nights and nine days, he could go without sleep. A wound from Cai's sword no physician could heal.' And so it goes on. Or he is literally the most grumpo to have ever grumped and I respect him hugely.

Blodeuwedd: OWL WOMAN. FLOWER-FACE. 'Then they took the flowers of the oak, and the flowers of the broom, and the flowers of the meadowsweet, and from those they conjured up the fairest and most beautiful maiden that anyone had ever seen.' She is literally stupidly beautiful AND SHE PLOTS TO KILL HER HUSBAND, LLEU, WHO QUITE FRANKLY DESERVED IT. A fuckin queen. She fucked over Gwydion's bb boi in one fell swoop, I simply MUST Stan.

Finally, RHIANNON: HORSE WOMAN. QUEEN OF DYFED. LITERAL TYLWYTH TEG LADY. She literally says to Pwyll - who she later marries - 'Be silent for as long as you like: never has a man been more stupid than you have been.' And if a woman said that to me I WOULD PERISH. also had an amazingly fast horse and like dhdjdddj when Pwyll dies - in a, I presume, stupidity-related incident - Rhiannon marries Branwen's brother Manawydan and actually gets treated with respect instead of whatever fuckery Pwyll was pulling.

Anyways VOTE, VOTE, VOTE. Best two go through to the quarter finals. U only have 1 DAY TO VOTE SO ZOOMIES!!!!

So, "Deifnyawc" or "Well-Endowed" essentially means Inheritor/Heir, and given its Gawain and Loholt, they would have some serious inheritence.

I wonder if Rhiwallawn is Rhiwallon ap Urien, one of Owain's brothers. That completes the trio: Arthur's son, Lot's son and Urien's son. Three men set on recieving sizeable estates from their parents.

After finding out that Yniol has no pretty privilege (outrage!!!!) I'm dying to know what the beauty standard is where the ROs and the Hound come from!! Kinda related to that, what are the ROs type (appearance wise i.e. hair color, height, body type, etc)? I ask this knowing full well that most people I know (me included) rarely fall for their "type", it's more as in "if you saw someone who looks like this on the street you'd go 'wow😳'" tyy <3

Ohh, let's talk pretty privilege then! I will say the points do not account only for beauty standards, but for social status and overall behaviour as well.

Beauty standards in Camelot: people with long well kept hair are usually deemed very pretty (Arthur, Evaine), people that are well groomed and make a particular attention to their appearance in public (even through makeup, clothes...). That is why Evaine and Arthur are so high up. Yniol and Morien, on the opposite, have zero care for their appearance.

Smaller people are deemed more beautiful than tall people (Evaine, Gwyar. Yniol is way too tall), or people who have a very muscular, very imposing built.

Tattoos aren't that appreciated in Camelot (way wayy more appreciated in the Irish territories), and scars can be perceived as beautiful, if they aren't severe or disfiguring (for some, Morien is even difficult to look at).

ROs types:

Only some of the ROs have certain traits that they instantly are drawn to, I wouldn't say they have a type, but simply some physical characteristics that will make them have a sightly different reaction in game.

Evaine: it might come off as superficial, but Evaine will make longing eyes at people who have lots of tattoos and lots of jewellery.

Gwyar: as shown in the demo, Gwyar has weak knees for very tall people.

Morien: quite strangely, Morien is drawn by scars. They are never repulsed by them, and despite how they feel about their own ones, Morien's gaze will often fall on the scars of their lover.
