Merlin rewatch -- S2E12: The Fire of Idirsholas

I like Morgause. I like that she wasn't painted irrevocably evil in this season. She was honourable in front of Arthur. She wanted to end Uther's reign not for personal vengeance but for the good of magic community. She didn't try to take the throne herself and she didn't go out and kill people for no reason. (She killed several knights when she first got in to Camelot but it's to make Arthur take her seriously I think.) She put the entire city to sleep but not to murder them as far as we know. Since the spell she cast to wake up the Knights of Mehdir only mentioned Uther it's possible they would have left Arthur alone if he wasn't awake. (Of course Merlin wouldn't know that.)

She also cared about Morgana so much. At the beginning it seemed that she was like Alvarr who just wanted to manipulate Morgana, but she showed her true heart when Morgana was poisoned. That's why I don't get why she would just enchant Morgana without any explanation. It seemed cruel. I guess Morgause wanted to ensure the success and didn't want to risk Morgana's refusal. And it would be safer for Morgana if there were other people awake in the castle. I still don't like it though.

Also Emilia fox' way of chanting spell is my favourite~ It’s actual “chanting”, not shouting or saying. It’s beautiful.
