Well... what a coinky dink, as I too made a questionable purchase (and plan to make more) involving a plastic model kit.
Tumblr media
First Gundam Master Grade I've touched since the early 2000's when I built Epyon and Heavyarms Custom.
Speaking of stupid shit I bought this year
One last thing I didn’t resist buying this year… I don’t even know when I’ll get to do something with it or where I’ll put it but this will be my Magnum opus once done.
As of now I plan to start working on it in 2023 and finish preferably before 22nd August 2028.

Can you already guess what it is?
Well. I just couldn’t resist once I saw Her in stock.

1/350 scale plastic model of HMS Hood.
Nearly 75cm of ecologically unfriendly plastic goodness.
She’s MASSIVE (for a scale model).

Here - with Brother Biggus for scale:

The kit is extremely detailed and has an entry on the official HMS Hood Museum web page.
There are a few minor and major mistakes - some of which I’ll try to correct.
The thing is. I’ll take my time. I want to make Her my greatest work.
Over the next year I’ll try to acquire the detail up set suggested by the museum, anatomy of the ship book and a set of micro servos.
What are the latter for? Well. I have this crazy idea to at least make her main cannons rotate with them - everything remotely controlled.
The ideal outcome would be to install some led lights inside of the model alongside servos and make Her just shine on my shelf.

RETURN OF THE TORSO-TAKER -- THE POWDER-MAKER: ENTER HEAVYARMS RAW HARDCORE.
PIC(S) INFO: Part 2 of 2 -- Spotlight on MG 1/100 Gundam Heavyarms mobile suit Customized Build model kit, attached with four Gatling Gun primary weapon attachments. Modeled by: 扭曲机器.
When one Gatling gun just isn't enough, and they don't call these "Custom" models for nothin', people. This model kit belongs in a museum, full stop, because it's just that ¢#@!%*$& beautiful.

Gunpla Madness - MG Sandrock EW
The building drive is big. LOL. After completing the awesome Tallgeese kit, I immediately started on my Master Grade Sandrock! It’s my third build of the EW Master Grade series after Deathscythe and Heavyarms (posts to follow!).
Tumblr media
I bought the Sandrock kit in Japan last year. It’s part of the smaller master grade series. This is the version of Sandrock as it appears in the Glory of the losers manga. I think it’s a bit of a fusion between the original version and the Custom version. It features details from both.
I do have to say I found the quality of the plastic a little disappointing after working with the Tallgeese kit. There was some stress from the nippers and it’s hard to sand off. Overall, it’s a very fun build though! I love how much attention to details the designers had for these kits. No kit is the same! The inner structure is, but the outer parts are all different. It’s really interesting to learn the build up of each Gundam as you go.
Sandrock for instance, is all closed panels, which I think it has to do with the fact that Sandrock is build for desert combat and has anti dust technology. Also, don’t the shoulders look awesome on this baby?
Chest unit and head, completed upperbody, upperbody with waist unit:

I added the stickers and decals to every finished unit as I went. I find it easier to apply them in this way. On a finished kit it’s often hard to reach certain areas. This is also the first kit where I didn’t ruin any of the decals. They damage easily.
I didn’t use my marker as much as with my other kits. Because of all the closed panels, it’s not really necessary. I love how the marker added something extra to the shoulders. Again, the shoulders are awesome, aren’t they?
Feet and right leg being build, completed right leg, completed body with backpack:

The kit comes with the heat shotels, a beam machine gun, and a shield. The machine gun can be fastened to the back of the kit. You can build the heat shotels with silver blades, or with red ones. I decided on the silver blades.
Here is the end result:
