It also announced a new policy for companies under state control saying public sector undertakings under the non-strategic sector will be privatised while those in the identified strategic sector would be capped by not more than four by merging some of them. In the fifth and final tranche of the economic stimulus package, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised allocation for employment guarantee scheme by Rs 40,000 crore over and above the Rs 61,000 crore budgeted earlier for MGNREGS, to provide employment to migrant workers moving back to their states. This, she said, will help generate nearly 300 crore person-days in total. For industries, she said the minimum threshold to initiate insolvency proceedings will be raised to Rs 1 crore from Rs 1 lakh, which largely insulates micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from bankruptcy on defaulting on loans. Also, a special insolvency resolution framework for MSMEs under Section 240A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) will be notified soon, she said adding that fresh initiation of insolvency proceedings will be suspended up to one year depending upon the pandemic situation. Coronavirus-related debt will be excluded from the definition of "default" under the IBC for the purpose of triggering insolvency proceedings, she said adding that the changes will be effected by promulgating an ordinance. Swaran Salaria: A Political Biography

Swaran S. Salaran, winner of the “Rashtriya Ekta Award” of 2002 have had an exemplary trail of work which still is in continuation.

His contributions in the society unfolded a phenomenon which transpired to be a model for his contemporaries. Swaran Salaria was the ex-youngest director of world association of detectives (U.S.A. of India) and the ex-chairman of the state commission of protection of child right, the government of Punjab. All of these expenses are willfully carried by him and the same has been extended to ventures that included donations. He provided donations to the Mini Bright Future Mentally Challenged School, Goasainpur and further extended such donations for the provisions of a school hostel. He has made a considerable amount of donation to institutes that helped many helpless children, some of the institutes where his donations went are M.C Asha Kiran School for Differently Abled Children, Usha Mata Minar Public School, SMSO Rajput Sr. Secondary School. His involvement in uplifting the youth had also seen to have its manifestation in the donations given to Maharana Pratap Youth Club, Behrampur.

Apart from his inclinations towards philanthropy, his political positions at BJP also saw consolidations since he had been in a number of exceptional positions over the year. He had been the national executive twice, Co-convener of the national industry and trade cell, permanent invitee as a Punjab state executive member, chairman of the state election campaign during Lok Sabha and a member of the delegation of national BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

How an aspiring entrepreneur made his mark and become India’s ‘Water Hero’

When as a sixteen-year-old boy from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, Vedant Goel decided to become a young entrepreneur, little did he know the journey he was about to embark on? Born in an Agarwal community, Vedant Goel had his goals set from a very young age. He was not interested in jobs and working for other people. Brought up in a close-knit community of businessmen and women, Goel grew up to have a penchant for entrepreneurship. At the tender age of sixteen, he decided to open a start-up.

Called ‘Har Aadmi Online’, Goel’s company intended to provide internet access to everyone – “…from a paan shop to a 5-star hotel”. The idea was quite simple but for a young boy to be sensitive enough to the needs of the world and to take on this role, it was inspirational. Goel had proved himself to be a visionary already. The plan was to create a package of 3,333 rupees and use it to build a website. This money was used to handle everything from web design, content management to the logo design.

The company was fortunate enough to attract more than 500 customers in the first six to seven months of operation. However, unforeseen issues started arising. The management was weak and unstable. No one was skilled enough to manage all aspects of the company or hire a technical team. No sooner did that happen than the company was forced to shut down.

For better or for worse

Vedant Goel was not one to lose hope or get discouraged in the face of failure. He had come to Pune from a small town to complete his education. He graduated from the esteemed Sir Parashurambhau College in Pune, Maharashtra. He attributes his drive and spirit to his parents who supported him at every turn and guided him through the crossroads.

Goel decided to open another company with a fresh idea. The purpose of ‘Start-up Café’ was to help start-ups and provide mentorship to young entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, the company had to be closed. Undeterred, Goel went for another venture; this time in the field of distribution. ‘Ekveda Superfoods’ was a supplier for dry fruits in Pune. But the young businessman was set up for failure. He tried again. He created his own brand of snacks called Taraji Namkeen and began manufacturing. But as fate would have it, the name didn’t hold.

After a series of failures and disappointments, Goel paused and contemplated what was leading to these results. Finding the answer, he set a company again. Neo Mega Steel LLP soared the sky with wide-open wings; and for once, the flight did not result in a crash landing.

Successful Venture

Goel’s company is one of the largest suppliers of raw materials in India. The company deals in the supply of raw materials to automobile component manufacturers that are used in JCBs, boiler parts, etc. The clientele includes a staggering 400 major companies. The company is not just a major distributor in the city of Pune but has also reached the rest of Maharashtra and the states of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Gujarat. Some of the new projects include supply to the ongoing project of the Pune Metro and iron for the bogeys for the Indian Railways.

At a young age of 25 years, Goel is the Managing Director of his own company and the board member of one Alphalogic Techsys Limited, the first company of India of its kind to be listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange.

“What Goes Around Comes Back Around”

“My aspiration is to do something great,” Goel said in his interview with Machine Maker. Just building a successful business from scratch was not the only ambition that Goel had nurtured. In his hometown, which is considered one of the most backward towns in Maharashtra, the lack of water is a perennial problem. In order to relieve the people somewhat, Goel devised a unique idea.

The students are asked to empty their bottles in the drums before heading home. This water is then used to clean the schools, water the plants, clean the buses, etc. More than 50 schools in Chandrapur now use this technique to save and reuse water that would otherwise have been discarded. Almost 10,000 liters of water are saved every day in the town, which makes it almost 3,00,000 liter a month.

The children have fondly named him ‘Water Dada’, News18 named him ‘Jal Rakshak’ and the Government of India initiative for water conservation has named him the ‘Water Hero’.

Goel did not only help save precious water but also decided to educate children on the importance of dental health. “Countries like the US and the UK have placed importance on the health of people but we don’t see that in India”, he says, disappointed. In order to change that, he decided to campaign in schools with the tag ‘My Teeth’ and make the students aware of dental health. He would distribute toothbrushes, toothpaste, and water to them afterward.

The group departed Mumbai on the evening of Friday, 16th February 2018 by road in a comfortable AC mini-bus & after an eventful journey of fun, food & friendship, reached Ahmedabad – India’s only World Heritage City & Gujarat’s economic powerhouse in the early hours on Saturday, 17th February 2018. After checking in the hotel & freshening up with a hearty breakfast, the group reached the premises of Erhardt + Leimer (India) Pvt. Ltd. on the outskirts of the city.

The group was welcomed by Mr. S. C. Joshi, Manager (HR) & Mr. S. Rajaram, Managing Director (MD) who after a brief introduction about the company profile, guided the group in two separate teams towards the Electronics Engineering Division & the Testing & Assembly Section of the plant. In the Testing & Assembly Section, students were shown the general assembly of industrial automation controllers & programmable logic controllers (PLC) with their applications. The group was also shown the placement & calibration of various sensors & transducers for web guiding systems & web tension monitoring systems. The factory visited ended with a break for a delicious lunch sponsored by E+L.

Taking out time from his busy schedule, Mr. S. Rajaram addressed the students on the importance of personal & professional ethics, communication and code of conduct, discipline & teamwork for working in any industrial organization. He stressed on the importance of life-long learning whenever any person gets the chance to do so. His message to the future generation of engineers was clear – they should give in their best whenever they get a chance to do so. He mentioned that success doesn’t come as free lunch but one must work hard & be the best in whatever they do. After vote of thanks to the entire team of E+L by Prof. Jayen Modi; the group left the industrial complex with a lot more than just bookish knowledge. They were perhaps buoyed by the fact that it was the practical demonstration that mattered the most as they saw real-life things beyond their scope of studies.

After an enriching visit to E+L, the group moved towards Gujarat Science City in evening of Saturday, 17th February 2018. Located in Hebatpur, Ahmedabad is part of a government initiative to draw more students towards education in science. The center hosts an IMAX 3D theatre, an energy park, a hall of science, Planet Earth, amphitheatre, Life Science Park and dancing musical fountains among others. The center also provides housing for students preparing for science exams. Since 5 years, program called ‘Vacation Training Program on Bio-resources for school children’ is even organised by Science city with the help of government funds to encourage students regarding Bio-resources. It is a month-long program for students who gave their SSC exams, each from every district of the state. Popularization of science to create scientific temper in the community is a priority in the emerging environment of knowledge-driven economic growth. Gujarat Science City is a bold initiative of the Government of Gujarat to realize this priority. The Government is creating a sprawling center at Ahmedabad which aims to provide a perfect blend of education and entertainment. It will showcase contemporary and imaginative exhibits, minds on experiences, working models, virtual reality, activity corners, labs and live demonstrations to provide an understanding of science and technology to the common man. Here the group indulged in the Hall of Science, Electrodome, Hall of Space & other scientific attractions which the Gujarat Science City had to offer.

The Department of Space, as the inheritor of the legacy of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the doyen of Indian Space Programme has dedicated its efforts to bring the benefits of space technology by developing and deploying satellite communications and earth observations systems which can enable and assist environment friendly and socially equitable development. India has firmly progressed step-by-step in this direction ever since it was given a go ahead by the Government of India. Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition (VSSE) is housed at Ahmedabad, which happens to be the hometown of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. This exhibition is an attempt to share with the general public ISRO achievements, hopes and concerns through the media of working models, live panels, static displays, the 3D theatre and the interactive multimedia presentations.

On Sunday, 18th February 2018 after a refreshing night’s sleep & a hearty breakfast, the group checked out of the hotel to proceed towards VSSE. After carefully following instructions from the volunteers, the group was given an overview about the country’s space programme & its achievements in 3D theatre.

In the afternoon, the group indulged in sightseeing at the Gandhi Ashram on banks of the Sabarmati river & visited a vintage car museum. With these activities, a two-day fun-filled, educative & informative journey came to close. The group left Ahmedabad in the evening on Sunday, 18th February 2018 & safely reached Mumbai early morning on Monday, 19th February 2018.

The visit was very well received & appreciated by all the students as it was an enriching & learning experience for all of them, especially with visiting E+L & seeing a core industry in operation sitting right in the heart of it. The exhibits at VSSE made students realize the achievements of our country in space research. Gujarat Science City took them back to their junior college & F.E. days & made them see different scientific phenomenon afresh completely from a new perspective. This visit certainly facilitated in building a bridge to narrow the gap between curriculum & real world applications.

All the staff & students acknowledge IEEE – WIE council, Prof. Kranti Wagle & Prof. Garima Tripathi. The group was grateful for the permission granted by Dr. D. V. Bhoir, Professor & Head of Electronics Engineering Department & Dr. Srija Unnikrishnan, Principal of the Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering (Mumbai). Such visits will not only bolster students’ understanding & help them for the real life applications but will also be a stepping stone in making related subjects technically more proficient.

Lockdown 4.0 begins today: Activities that are allowed

Hospitality services meant for housing health/police/government officials/healthcare workers/stranded persons shall be operational.

Canteens at the bus depots, railway stations and airports will also be operational.

Restaurants will be permitted to operate kitchens for home delivery of food items.

Sports complexes and stadia will be permitted to open; however, spectators will not be allowed.

Online distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged.

Inter-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses, with mutual consent of State(s) and UT(s) involved, except in containment zones.

All States/UTs shall allow inter-state and intra-state movement of medical professionals, nurses and para-medical staff, sanitation personnel and ambulances.

All States/UTs shall allow inter-state movement of all types of goods/cargos, including empty trucks.

All shop owners must also ensure that customers maintain 'do gaz doori' (minimum six feet distance) and that not more than five people are allowed inside at any given time.

Persons below 10 years and above 65 years of age, those with co-morbidities, and pregnant women shall stay at home except for essential and health purposes.

4 test positive in Goa, taking state's total to 26

Declared a green zone last week after it reported no new coronavirus cases and all patients were discharged, Goa now is witnessing a resurgence of infections. The state reported 19 new infections, taking the state's total to 26.

The new cases including four persons who had travelled in the Mumbai-Goa train on Sunday and TrueNat tests had given a positive result for them. The samples have been sent for confirmatory tests and 100 passengers who had travelled in the train were tested. On the same day, another train passenger had tested positive for coronavirus.

At the time that Goa was declared a green zone, seven patients undergoing treatment were discharged. Ever since then, 19 new cases have been reported.

Confirmed cases climb to 90,927

According to figures released by the health ministry, the number of coronavirus cases in India stood at 90,927, including 2,872 deaths as of Monday morning.

India had seen the highest spike in cases between Saturday and Sunday over 24 hours, even as the nationwide lockdown was extended till 31 May.

The country is set to enter the fourth phase of the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus on Monday, as the National Disaster Management Authority issued an order to continue the lockdown measures till 31 May.

Subsequently, the home ministry issued a set of guidelines for the fourth phase, in which it directed that air travel, hotels, restaurants and public gatherings will remain prohibited throughout the country.

Earlier in the day, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the fifth and final tranche of the government's stimulus package to revive the coronavirus-hit economy. She said the stimulus package includes the Rs 8.01 lakh crore of liquidity being made available by the RBI.

The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 2,872 and the number of total positive cases climbed to 90,927 Sunday morning, registering an increase of 120 fatalities and a record jump of 4,987 new cases in 24 hours, since 8 AM Saturday, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 53,946, while 34,108 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said.

Lockdown guidelines

The Union home ministry issued guidelines listing the dos and don''ts during the lockdown 4.0 that has been clamped in the country to cut the chain of coronavirus infection.

The guidelines said all domestic, international air travel of passengers, except domestic air ambulance, will remain prohibited.

Metro rail services, schools, colleges will remain closed till May end, the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.

Hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, malls, swimming pools, gyms will also remain shut even as all social, political, religious functions, and places of worship will be closed till May 31, it said.

The MHA said inter-state movement of passenger vehicles, buses will be allowed with mutual consent of states involved during the COVID-19 lockdown 4.0.

States and Union Territories have been given the powers for delineation of Red, Green and Orange Zones as per COVID-19 situation, the MHA said.

All shops, except those in containment zones and malls, will be allowed to open from Monday with staggered timings during lockdown 4.0, it said.

Further, state governments and Union Territories have been asked to decide on the demarcation of red, orange and green zones based on the parameters set by the Centre.

Also significantly, the new guidelines permit inter-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses with the mutual consent of the states or Union Territories.

State-wise cases and deaths

Of the 120 new deaths reported since Saturday morning, 67 were in Maharashtra, 19 in Gujarat, nine in Uttar Pradesh, seven in West Bengal, six in Delhi, four in Madhya Pradesh, three in Tamil Nadu and two in Haryana and one each from Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan

Of the total 2,872 fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 1,135 fatalities, Gujarat comes second with 625 deaths, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 243, West Bengal at 232, Delhi at 129, Rajasthan at 126, Uttar Pradesh at 104,Tamil Nadu at 74 and Andhra Pradesh at 49

The death toll reached 36 in Karnataka, 34 Telangana and 32 in Punjab

Haryana has reported 13 fatalities due to the disease, Jammu and Kashmir has 12 deaths while Bihar has registered seven and Kerala has reported four deaths

Jharkhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Odisha have recorded three COVID-19 fatalities each, while Assam has reported two deaths

Meghalaya, Uttarakhand and Puducherry have reported one fatality each, according to the ministry data.

The ministry's website says more than 70 per cent of the deaths are due to comorbidities

According to the health ministry data updated in the morning, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra at 30,706, followed by Gujarat at 10,988, Tamil Nadu at 10,585, Delhi at 9,333, Rajasthan at 4,960, Madhya Pradesh at 4,789 and Uttar Pradesh at 4,258

The number of COVID-19 cases has gone up to 2,576 in West Bengal, 2,355 in Andhra Pradesh and 1,946 in Punjab

It has risen to 1,509 in Telangana, 1,179 in Bihar, 1,121 in Jammu and Kashmir, 1,092 in Karnataka and 887 in Haryana

Odisha has reported 737 coronavirus infection cases so far, while Kerala has 587 cases. A total of 217 people have been infected with the virus in Jharkhand and 191 in Chandigarh

Tripura has reported 167 cases, Assam has 92 cases, Uttarakhand has 88, Himachal Pradesh has 78 cases, Chhattisgarh has 67 and Ladakh has registered 43 cases, so far

Thirty-three COVID-19 cases have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Goa have reported 17 COVID-19 cases, while Meghalaya and Puducherry have registered 13 cases each

Manipur has seven cases. Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Dadar and Nagar Haveli have reported a case each till now.

Sitharaman announces final tranche of economic stimulus

The Centre has announced suspension of new bankruptcy filings on loan defaults for one year and raised the threshold for insolvency as it moved to ease COVID-19 pain for the industry.

It also announced a new policy for companies under state control saying public sector undertakings under the non-strategic sector will be privatised while those in the identified strategic sector would be capped by not more than four by merging some of them.

In the fifth and final tranche of the economic stimulus package, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised allocation for employment guarantee scheme by Rs 40,000 crore over and above the Rs 61,000 crore budgeted earlier for MGNREGS, to provide employment to migrant workers moving back to their states.

This, she said, will help generate nearly 300 crore person-days in total.

For industries, she said the minimum threshold to initiate insolvency proceedings will be raised to Rs 1 crore from Rs 1 lakh, which largely insulates micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from bankruptcy on defaulting on loans.

Also, a special insolvency resolution framework for MSMEs under Section 240A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) will be notified soon, she said adding that fresh initiation of insolvency proceedings will be suspended up to one year depending upon the pandemic situation.

Coronavirus-related debt will be excluded from the definition of "default" under the IBC for the purpose of triggering insolvency proceedings, she said adding that the changes will be effected by promulgating an ordinance.

Additionally, minor technical and procedural defaults under the Companies Act such as shortcomings in CSR reporting, inadequacies in board report, filing defaults, and delay in holding AGM will be decriminalised.

Last week, the government pledged a Rs 20 lakh crore (nearly 10 per cent of gross domestic product) package to support the economy headed for its first full-year contraction in more than four decades.
