Long post about my big kid under the break.
We pulled our big kid out of his public middle school almost two weeks ago. In the month before we unenrolled him, he had missed at least one day a week due to school refusal. Mornings were nightmares of me trying to coax him out of bed. Most evenings he experienced (sometimes hours-long) meltdowns over homework. From his first day of school until his last, he did not have one good day. Many days were awful. Maybe most days were. The day where I decided he wasn't going back, he got into my car at pickup and he was distraught and stressed out and angry and despondent. He hadn't been allowed to go to the bathroom during his last class because of some sort of construction happening in the hallways, and when I asked him about homework for that class he said he didn't know because he'd spent all of his energy just trying not to pee himself.
I had known for a while that we were almost certainly going to end up homeschooling him, and I began to feel that I was sending him to a place that he found torturous just to satisfy my own sense that we had tried hard enough, that I had advocated enough for him. At his age, homeschooling is usually a permanent choice because it can be difficult to get homeschooled kids back into public middle and high schools.
But for whatever reason, that day was the day I just finally had had enough. I don't want to send my child to a place where he is lonely and agitated and angry and in pain. My child has level 2 autism, and while he has no intellectual disabilities, I have come to accept that he has different needs than other children and that this particular public school at this point in his life was harming him. He can't thrive there.
So we pulled him out.
We're doing something called de-schooling through the holidays. I have a loose schedule of a few things I ask him to do on school days, but most of his time is free so that he can decompress and begin to heal from the extreme amount of stress and pressure he's been feeling. At the beginning of January he'll start an online curriculum that he can navigate at his own pace. We will probably need to find him a math tutor. I'm sure there will be ups and downs.
Right now I'm trying very hard to help him make some social connections with other children near his age. He was in fight/flight/freeze mode the entire time he was at school and because of that he couldn't make any friends there. He'd also begun to experience some light bullying.
I found a micro school startup in my area that has a STEAM club. It's teeny tiny (just 2 or 3 kids) but he started that last week. Next week we have a meetup with another kid his age who is also autistic. I'm in several homeschooling Facebook groups now, and I found this kid's mom through one of those. In January he'll be starting an online D&D group for kids that is moderated by an adult.
And today he's playing Roblox with another ADHD/autistic kid via video chat. When we lived in Montgomery 7 years before, we happened to move onto the same street as a woman Dominic and I went to college with. A has a son who's about a year and a half older than our big kid, and he has a lot of the same issues + giftedness, which is also under the neurodiversity umbrella. My big kid and this kid were pretty good friends that year, but he and his family moved to Vermont a few years ago. When I realized I was probably going to have to homeschool my big kid, I reached out to A because she'd homeschooled her child too, and she pointed me to a lot of resources, which is great. I also helped my kid get back into contact with A's son, and they coordinated a time to play Roblox together.
I can hear them now from the other room, and my kid is obviously having a great time. He's socializing with another kid. He's making a friend.
I don't know what's going to happen with his schooling, with his future, with any of our futures. Dominic and I are very much rule followers, so to take our kid outside of the traditional education route and try this different path is--I cannot overstate it--beyond scary. But I do know that I couldn't continue to force my child to go to a school that was making him miserable. And right now I'm listening to him play with another kid and he's laughing and having a blast.
He's smart. I think he'll be able to, for the most part, follow a curriculum independently, as long as he's allowed to go at his own pace. We will add enriching activities alongside the curriculum and continue to help him make social connections.
I just want to do right by him. I'm just doing my best.

I signed up for this online class co-taught by a woman I find maddeningly brilliant, where she lectures on her experience working with and studying people who are on the cutting edge of whatever their professional field is. She discovered this common thread where many of them claim that they don't come up with their innovations on their own--supposedly, ideas just enter their minds spontaneously, or even in a dream, and they follow these disciplined lifestyles (versions of monastic practices, generally) that they believe make them more receptive to those kinds of messages. A good clarifying example is that of a mathematician (Pattie Maes I think? I forgot to write it down) who claimed that as a young student, she would just-know the solutions to math problems without being able to explain the reasoning, so she was always in trouble with her teachers; eventually she got into analytical philosophy, which helped her reverse-engineer and understand the answers she mysteriously received. So anyway the class I'm taking allows you to offer up your own projects for feedback and advice about how you can invite a breakthrough to happen. There are some extremely interesting people in the group, including a couple of guys who are doing futuristic-sounding sustainable farming projects, someone who studies black holes, and just all stripes of scientists and artists. I'm hearing some pretty interesting things, but...
The class is co-taught by this woman who is also obviously brilliant, she has these insane credentials I barely understand involving venture capital and AI, she works with and for extremely high level companies and luminaries and her self-selected title is something like "singularity expert". And like, all of that is inherently interesting whether or not it sounds somewhat sinister to your ears, but I quickly realized that she's one of these people who is just fundamentally excited by the basic concept of Success, and she automatically thinks that any measure of fame and fortune, no matter what it's in aid of or where it came from, is evidence of genius. Which to me is like this incredibly dangerous trap, for what I think are really obvious reasons.
So one of us students brought up a manuscript she's been working on for decades that isn't going anywhere, and the singularity expert told her to just throw it out and do something else, basically. And in her justification for this, she started saying "I know a lot of you probably don't like Elon Musk, BUT" in this really bitter, cold tone of voice that let you know immediately that she's a huge fan and she thinks the resistance to him is just a bunch of ignorant liberal bullshit. And her example of his genius, which we should all imitate, is that when he wanted to make a big update to Tesla/Twitter/(some other shit he acquired from actual innovators), he found that the update was incompatible with all of foundational code, so he just threw out millions and millions of dollars' worth of code to force his new thing into place. And I mean, on one level I heard something useful and true: Don't sacrifice your future for the comforting stability of the past, beware of the sunk cost fallacy, etc. But the fact that Elon Musk did something that *appears* to represent that, depending on how you spin it, does not mean that he is a genius you should seek to imitate. First of all, I didn't leave knowing exactly what the consequences of his actions were, and second of all...millions of dollars doesn't mean anything to that guy. He's impossibly rich and he basically started out that way, and he's never going to wind up homeless or whatever even if he drives every single company he bought into the ground. He's just not a good example of someone with a high risk, high reward mindset that we should all emulate because he could lose hundreds of millions of dollars almost without noticing. The fact that he did this thing that in isolation looks heroic, that's only a tiny part of the picture with him.
(And that's without even getting into the impact that it has on the rest of the world, that he has so much power; like personally I think he's such a negative presence in the world that it's beyond just material effects, actually he's so corrosive that even talking about him is bad. Just contemplating the idea of him brings out the absolute worst in people, it's bad for people's moral fiber to even argue about him, but ANYWAY)
Unfortunately I find that a lot of people who have some kind of overlap with the self-help field will eventually come around to admitting that they're so blinded by the glamor of public, lucrative success that they don't really care where it comes from or who gets it or what people do with it. Damien Echols is someone I really enjoy, I just think it's undeniably interesting to hear from someone who spent almost 20 years on death row studying spirituality (to be glib about it) and pursuing all kinds of monastic disciplines; I mean that guy has things to say that you don't get from circulating in normal society. He practices something that has roots as far back as ancient Sumeria, he's not rich and he's not trying to get rich, but he often reminds people that poverty doesn't have an inherent moral quality and it's not inherently evil to pursue financial success. He'll say that if you have a phobic attitude toward money, if the very idea of it is tainted by guilt and fear in your mind, then it becomes a destructive force in your life--but if you think about money as energy, a resource you can channel into doing what's important to you, then it becomes something positive and supportive. And I can totally understand that. But then Echols will extrapolate that to the point that he's praising megachurch guys who are absolute crooks and scam artists and who definitely rob people through a form of psychological blackmail that tells them they're going to hell if they don't help buy Jim Bakker or whoever a private jet. And I'm like, man...ok so it's worth while to say that having a positive mindset about money can change your life for the better. But that doesn't mean that we have to then lionize every single person who ever got rich no matter how they got there and no matter what they did with their power, that's just fucking insane, right?
I could go on and on actually, about various people I've heard speak about how to break through your subconscious limitations and take a more authorial role in your own life, and how often even the most apparently well-meaning one of these speakers will come around to praising like the Monopoly guy, or some tepid pop star with an incredible marketing machine behind them, as ground-breaking geniuses who we all need to emulate. I mean a lot of people who are visibly successful get there by accident, or nepotism, or coattail riding, or plain ruthlessness. Many people in the big-success category turn out to be inarguably, unfathomably stupid (ironically I spotted the Elon Musk Pop Tart story the morning before I took this class), and some of them are only geniuses insofar as they have an abnormally well-developed predatory instinct that makes them able to think thoughts and perform actions that you really can't conceive of if you aren't, you know, a psychopath. Someone recently posted a bunch of advice on teaching from John Cale, and one of the things he said was "Suspect charisma", and I think THAT is a much more important piece of advice than like, "find someone who is rich and famous and do whatever that person appears to be doing without asking yourself how they got where they are, or just what is the real reason that you personally are so compelled by them." It seems like a lot of people respond to the aura of "success" so intensely that they just don't want to have to question it, and they'll bend over backwards crafting these speculative backstories and dialectic arguments to make their animal reaction to the spectacle of power sound like something intellectually sound. It smacks of stockholm syndrome, of people who fall in love with their own bullies. There's complicated reasons for that, some of which are what got Trump elected I think, but I don't wanna talk about that. I have to go to the doctor's now anyway, and stop thinking about this.

Hi there!
I hope you're doing well. 🙂
My random question is (because I think you've mentioned DND) : For someone wanting to start playing dnd, what advice would you give?
Thank you for asking! Always exciting to see somebody else getting into D&D. I haven’t played as much as others, but hopefully this will help get the ball rolling.
First rule everyone should know: No D&D is better than bad D&D
We’re all here to have fun, so if you're not having fun then you should stop
It doesn’t even have to be because you’re having a problem with a person at the table, it could just be the story everyone is telling is just not one you want to participate it
We have a limited time on this earth, don’t force yourself to do something you don’t really want to do
Next, don't do a paid campaign for your first game
There are a lot of paid campaigns online and while I'm not opposed to the idea, you're still learning and so shouldn't have to pay for a DM
If you don't have somebody to play with in person, check out your local gaming store to see if anybody is running a game, failing that, roll20 and D&D Beyond forums are a good place to start
Once you find a group, make sure to communicate any boundaries or triggers you have early
This is a role playing game and depending on the game, things can get intense, so make sure you're at a table that will respect those boundaries
After that, talk to the DM as much as possible
DMs want you to ask about the story they're trying to make, you're not bothering them with questions, I promise you
If you're having trouble figuring out a backstory, they're the best person to ask; and if they're being cagey about helping you, that's red flag
Also, try to get to know the other people at the table before game time
If you're playing with strangers, you should have a session zero allowing everybody to chat and get a feel for each other
These are the people you're going to be telling this story with, take the time to listen to them and ask about their characters
This is collaborative story telling, so communication and listening to each other is essential
I'd also recommend starting with a low level campaign (levels 1-3) to get a grasp of the rules
Staring with a martial character (barbarian, fighter, rogue, or monk), might also be best too as you don't have to keep track of spells
Of course, if a martial class isn't fun for you, disregard, I'm sure you can figure it out
I'd also say that at the minimum you should buy The Player's Handbook. The rest can come with time and necessity
D&D Beyond is also a really good resource when it comes to character sheets and creation
Also, remember that the game you're going to play isn't going to be like a live play or Baldur's Gate
You're a bunch of nerds playing make believe with more math; chances are a lot of it is going to be derivative, and that's okay
So long as you and everyone else at the table is having fun, that's all that matters

Hi Could you explain the joke behind Matty's tweet I want to get it haha
For reference, here it is.
On the surface level, the joke is making a contrast between “Boygenius” and “girlretard” like ‘oh they’re a group of women musicians who called themselves ‘Boygenius ok so what’s the opposite of that? The opposite of boy and the opposite of genius.” Hence the girlretard name that he and George are going to call themselves.
But that’s not the real joke. That’s the joke that most people are mad at him for. Cuz he used “retard” casually. Lots of people consider it a slur because it was/ is often a term used to degrade and derogatorily describe neurodivergent people for not having brains that are neurologically functioning the way that neurotypicals do. For instance, *I* was called that by teachers because I have pretty bad ADHD (fun fact, I failed high school. Twice.) which made it difficult for me to focus in class or do the in-class exercises on time like the rest of my classmates. Of course the stigma comes a long with pretty horrific consequences like the history of mistreatment of people who are deemed “retarded.” De-humanizing them, isolating them, subjecting them to cruel medical experiments, etc. (just to clarify “neurodivergent” isn’t just ADHD applied to folks, but that’s a more common example. Autistic folks and most “brain disorders” that stem from ones neurons being wired differently, therefore causing one to function differently in ways that are deemed aberrant by social normatively, are included under the “neurodivergent” category).
This is why the term “retarded” is considered socially unacceptable now. It has violent and discriminatory connotations often enacted by so-called “normal” folks upon people who don’t fit the mold.
So, when people saw the term in Matty’s ostensible joke, they got angry. Because, in those peoples eyes, he’s using the term casually and carelessly by using it as an antonym for “genius” in the same way that “girl” is the antonym for “boy.” (It’s actually not cuz that’s not how gender works and yet we seem to be totally chill about it as a society but that’s a different convo)
But Matty isn’t using it using it in the same way that he’s using “girl.” 1. Because the joke itself is aware of it being offensive (that’s why Lucy stopped talking to him in the joke). But for many, many, many, other reasons. Off the top of my head here are a few:
1. Boygenius have talked about how the name of their group is based on how previous supergroups like theirs, often the ones consisting of male musicians, get glorified and celebrated for their individualistic style and their specialness which is regarded as genius, whereas women artists never get that treatment. So, their name is intended to signal the intention behind forming the group. Which is to make space for themselves as women, and as queer women especially, and to occupy that role and to find confidence in saying that women artists, queer artists, deserve to be seen as valid, extraordinary, celebrated for writing and singing about their experiences as legit experiences just the same way that men feel so boldly comfortable doing. (That’s why their album is called ‘the record’ and same with their film, and why they dress that way etc etc) SO by making the joke that he does Matty is making fun of presumptuous entitled men.
2. He’s also making the joke that men’s “specialness” equals genius now because patriarchy regards the straight white male as the average norm. Whereas “retarded” shows that we privilege only certain types of specialness. Like if these “geniuses” where taking too long to do their in class math exercise their reachers would’ve called their moms like “your kid is retarded.” But they just happened to be really good at music.
3. The joke is designed to stir shit up because it’s self-aware, posted online, written causally, with the intention of upsetting people. But you’ll only be upset if you don’t get it. And you can only not get the joke if you focus on the word “retard” and not on the context, meaning, intention, who’s saying it (Matty; a person with ADHD, past addiction, anxiety etc), why it’s being said, and so on and so forth. Meaning, if you read it and don’t get it, you’re literally being made fun of by the joke itself. Like you’re proving it right. Proving that the problem with woke culture and online outrage is that we have become sooo hung up on labels (hence his use or a label in the joke, btw) and individual words and shit that we have turned into extreme literalists. We take every word individual and cannibalize and brutalize meaning. That’s not how language works ffs.
4. He is using a dispute over labels to highlight the hollowness of labels.
5. He’s commenting on peoples mistaken perception of him as an evil troll by getting people to react to him as if he’s an evil troll.
Also this is setting up whatever the duck SATVB plans to do. So, yeah.
Anyway hope this helps.

I gotta rant about the state of math education for a minute. I say this as a math educator with a math PhD who currently works to create digital math content and assessments (primarily for high school and college level). We have to do better for students and the way we're attempting to do that is mostly garbage because of publishing companies.
I currently work for two educational publishers who will remain unnamed. They're competitors and I think it's funny that I and one other person I know work for both of them.
Anyway, company M, who I primarily work for, is finding that students are using fewer of their tools and appear to just guess when they don't know an answer instead of attempting and getting feedback. Instead of figuring out what would actually help students, this company is taking a more bare bones approach to authoring math assessment tools going forward, firing authors (the team I was on used to have over 20 people at any given time and now there are 4 of us), and then complaining how we can't keep up with authoring new content. The problem is that they are not offering a wider variety of content for different types of learners, but they don't want to hear that. They write a textbook, make online homework and study guides for it, and call it good. That's not nearly enough, but they don't want to invest in getting better.
This week I started training for a new part time job at company C to try to make a little more money and they are trying to do a better job. They want higher student engagement, fewer assessments, and for students to explore a topic instead of traditional lectures. Great. Research supports a more interactive approach to learning. Except their idea of student engagement and interaction solely focuses on extroversion: reading, writing, conversing, analyzing, actively listening, group work, sharing with the class, and more. And none of it has the options of being done alone. On top of this, they do not address disabilities and are only just starting to realize they need different content for multilingual learners.
Some students can actually read and learn and do not need to interact. Some students are anxious to interact. I've seen it. I've had a student stuttering just trying to talk in class to ask a question, and making her come to the board? Why? For what purpose? Said student was already doing well in class and she simply wrote everything out. I had multiple students who were combat veterans; one in particular who had a brain injury and needed a lot of repetition. Having a lot of approaches in a 50 minute class would have been overwhelming for him since he needed clear examples and lots of independent practice. He thrived in my office hours. Forcing this model will not help these students. While I think there are some good things about this versus just using a digital textbook, I take issue with the approach because it is still forcing students to all learn the same way. It's a different way of learning than using a textbook, but there is no room for flexibility.
Look, I know that it's impossible to teach a classroom of students in a way that gives each enough time and resources to perfectly meet their needs. I taught at a university for 8 years. I've tutored students in grades 3-12 for over a decade. This is not me bashing teachers, lecturers, or professors. I know they are simply limited to what math ed materials are on the market and what they write themselves. (Thinking of Dr. Bell who wrote his own book for Modern Algebra because he hated every book on the market.) I just get frustrated when everyone (publishers) tries to push new teaching styles and tools, saying "there are multiple approaches to suit multiple learners." If each student must go through and master each approach, how is that any better than saying they must all master this one approach?
I'm just a frustrated math lady. Also, this has reminded me of the time many years ago when I had an anon who would ask for math homework help in my inbox because they had no where else to go. That was also before we had DMing on tumblr. Thinking of you today, Stats Anon.
#math#math education#about me#math publishing#so many educators out there trying their best and the materials they have to work with are just not enough#the answer to this is probably increase funding for education

5 Hacks to save money in 2024 on GCSE level tuitions in UK
Are you looking for affordable and effective ways to support your child’s GCSE preparation? With rising tuition costs, many parents in the UK are searching for ways to cut down on expenses without compromising on quality. At HND Assignment Help, we provide not only assignment guidance and assistance for various levels, but also valuable insights on managing educational costs. Here are five practical hacks to help you save on GCSE tuitions in 2024.
1. Opt for Online GCSE Tuition
With advances in technology, online tuition has become a cost-effective and flexible option for GCSE students. Online GCSE tuition can be as comprehensive as in-person sessions, with many qualified tutors offering interactive and personalized lessons through video calls and learning platforms.
The best part? Online sessions usually come at a fraction of the price compared to in-person classes, as they eliminate the need for travel costs. By searching for terms like "GCSE tuition near me" or "GCSE maths tuition" online, you can often find affordable remote tutoring options that fit within your budget.
2. Look for Local GCSE Tuition Centres
For those who prefer in-person tuition, exploring nearby tuition centres can save on travel costs and often provides access to group sessions that are less expensive than one-on-one tutoring. A quick search for "GCSE tuition centre near me" or "tuition for GCSE near me" can help you identify local centres offering budget-friendly tuition packages, especially in core subjects like GCSE Maths.
Local centres may also offer discounts if you book multiple sessions upfront, so be sure to ask about bundle deals or referral discounts to further reduce costs.
3. Leverage Free Online Resources
The internet is filled with free educational resources, especially for GCSE-level subjects. Websites, YouTube channels, and even interactive educational apps offer topic-specific explanations, practice questions, and mock exams. By using these free resources alongside paid tuition, students can focus on paid sessions for the areas they find most challenging.
Platforms like HND Assignment Help also offer assignment guidelines and study resources that can complement GCSE tuition, helping students save on additional tutoring hours by preparing effectively with online tools.
4. Try Group Tuition for Shared Costs
Private one-on-one tuition can be costly, but group sessions provide a similar level of instruction at a reduced rate. Group tuition allows students to split costs while still gaining access to a professional tutor. Group sessions are especially beneficial for common subjects like GCSE Maths, where students can discuss problem-solving strategies and help each other learn.
Check for tutors or tuition centres offering small group sessions under keywords like "GCSE tuition near me" or "GCSE maths tuition." This approach not only reduces costs but can also encourage a collaborative learning environment that improves understanding.
5. Plan Ahead and Book in Advance
Booking GCSE tuition sessions in advance can often earn you early-bird discounts, especially if you're planning to use the same tutor over several months. Many tutors and tuition centres provide reduced rates for long-term commitments, which can result in significant savings over the academic year.
Planning for tuition ahead of exam season also ensures that you have a steady preparation routine, reducing the need for expensive last-minute cramming sessions. With HND Assignment Help, you can explore affordable resources for GCSE and other academic levels, ensuring consistent preparation without breaking the bank.
Save Money and Succeed with HND Assignment Help
At HND Assignment Help, we understand that balancing educational support and budget is a priority for many families. By utilizing these hacks, you can make GCSE tuition affordable and effective, setting up your child for success in 2024 without overextending financially. Explore our assignment guidelines and affordable educational resources today, and help your child achieve their best in their GCSE exams!

I have tried SEVERAL calculators and they also give conflicting answers. What I learned in school after basic PEMDAS is "GEMDAS" "G" meaning "grouping symbol." PEMDAS then REAPPLIES for each level of grouping. In this case, and as some calculators also seem to be doing, the division is being treated as a fraction and thus 3(5-4+1) is ALL done FIRST, making the answer 3.
And guess what? I saw this in the notes with WolframAlpha being used to prove the answer is 12. (Reblog referenced and screenshot from @baronbrian)
See that purple button under the textbox that says "math input"????? Click it and hit enter again!
NOW IT'S FUCKING 3. THIS is how I did it in my head and this is what we learned in school!!!
I'll admit, I have no idea what "natural language" is but from what I've read, the "math input" feature is essentially schoolbook math. If you were in an algebra class, 3 would be the correct answer. But as @sibred said in the replies, it's ambiguous. In my opinion, it's deceptive. I don't think the snark in reply from op was necessary.
I know I don't normally like. ~engage~ with posts, but this had me fired up. I'm an autistic math nerd who hates being wrong, so seeing WolframAlpha conflict with my answer and seeing many other online calculators also give conflicting results AND seeing the arguing in the notes kind of set me off. I don't think it's in proper spirit of this kind of poll making OR in the spirit of learning to assert that there's only one answer when just a weeeeee bit of exploration shows that even the calculators aren't sure based on how they read it (and yes I was inputting the problem exactly as stated).
TL;DR the answer can be either and op is trying to get you riled up on purpose.
Math Poll 2.0
Due to a popular demand (stemming from the discussion under this prompt)! 🧮
#and im fucking american#mathblr#maybe if i tag that and everyone sees and understands this i can sleep at night#my autism is burning i HATE when people dont have the ANSWERS UUGHSDJGHSJDFG

Navigating AP Courses in Dubai A Gateway to Academic Excellence
AP courses are college-level classes offered to high school students. They cover various subjects, allowing students to explore their interests while challenging themselves academically. In Dubai, many international schools and private institutions offer AP courses, making it easier for students to access this enriching curriculum. These courses not only provide students with a solid foundation in subjects like math, science, literature, and history but also help them develop critical thinking and analytical skills that are essential for success in higher education.
One of the primary advantages of taking ap courses in dubai is the potential to earn college credit. Many universities across the globe recognize AP exam scores and may grant students college credits, reducing the number of courses they need to take in college. This can lead to significant savings on tuition fees and provide students with the flexibility to explore other academic interests during their college years.
Furthermore, AP courses in Dubai can enhance a student’s college application. Admissions officers often look for students who challenge themselves academically and engage in advanced coursework. Successfully completing AP courses demonstrates a student’s commitment to their education and their readiness for the demands of college-level work. This can set students apart in a competitive admissions landscape, particularly in prestigious universities.
When considering AP courses, students should also be mindful of the workload involved. AP classes are known for their intensity, often requiring a greater level of dedication and time management skills compared to standard classes. Students must be prepared to engage with the material deeply, complete extensive readings, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously. For those willing to put in the effort, the rewards can be substantial.
In Dubai, the availability of AP courses has made it possible for students from diverse backgrounds to experience a curriculum that prepares them for global challenges. Schools offering ap dubai programs often provide excellent resources, including experienced teachers who guide students through the complexities of the coursework. Additionally, many schools offer tutoring and extracurricular activities that complement the AP experience, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Parents and students interested in AP courses should research various schools in Dubai to find the best fit. Factors to consider include the school’s reputation, the qualifications of the teaching staff, and the range of AP subjects offered. Some schools may have specialized programs or additional support systems that can further enhance a student’s learning experience.
As students prepare for their AP exams, it’s essential to develop effective study strategies. This includes forming study groups, utilizing online resources, and practicing with past exam papers. Many schools also offer review sessions to help students consolidate their knowledge and boost their confidence before the exams.
In conclusion, AP courses in Dubai present an incredible opportunity for students seeking academic rigor and the chance to earn college credit. By taking advantage of the AP programs available, students can enhance their educational experience, prepare for college, and stand out in the competitive world of higher education. Whether you’re a student eager to challenge yourself or a parent exploring options for your child’s future, AP courses in Dubai are certainly worth considering. Embrace the journey of learning and growth that these courses offer; it could be the key to unlocking a brighter academic future.

Creating 5R Characters (Resources)
I'm posting several drafts today, to get rid of them.
In this post, I'm linking to an old post from July 2016. I had been playing around with the idea of creating a program that randomly generated characters and I needed a list of all possible point buy arrays, which isn't difficult to code and with 5e there are only 65 unique arrays.
I have referenced this post more than anything I've ever posted online before. 65 Unique Arrays
Since 5th Revision (5R), I've also referenced this post here, The Origin Rant where I grouped background origins by Feat for the first time. Recently, I also posted Feats and Background Origins by Ability Score, so look for those to also be a great reference. However, the Origin Rant is still excellent for searching coma delimited for the two stats that interest you.
When I went out to create 12 Characters using only 5R rules and one for each class, I ended up with 15 characters, doubling up on the character that I am actively playing in online campaigns. Since I haven't totally bought on to the idea of starting with a 17 stat, all my characters use the following arrays: 15,15,14,10,8,8 15,15,13,10,10,8 15,14,14,12,8,8 15,14,14,10,10,8 15,14,12,11,10,10 15,13,13,12,12,8 15,13,13,12,10,10 14,14,14,12,10,8 14,14,13,12,10,10 Most of my characters used the +2/+1 Origin with a primary 15+1 stat but a few used a primary 14+2 stat as their highest.
Only one of the arrays has a wasted stat point: 15,14,12,11,10,10 that's Zim the Fighter. He needed the primary Strength stat 15+1 and a 14+2 Constitution Stat. When it came to a tertiary stat Zim elects for a Wisdom of 12, leaving him enough points for 10's in his remaining three stats with one stat point left over, placed in Dexterity for prosperity. Zim is a concept character who is a Jovial Dwarf Farmer, he has the Tough Feat and Dwarven Toughness for a bonus 3 hp each level. He's a great character and most of his abilities are passive, so he's fast and easy to play.
I hope this character creation resource post helps people make effective 5R characters faster. I know it already helps me!

Mastering Math with Kiya Learning: Techniques and Skills for Singapore Students
Math can be a challenging subject for many students, but with the right guidance and learning techniques, students can develop strong problem-solving skills and excel in their exams. In Singapore, where academic excellence is a priority, math education is critical for a student’s success from primary to tertiary levels. At Kiya Learning, we focus on offering personalized and effective Singapore math learning techniques that empower students to build confidence in their mathematical abilities. This blog will explore key math techniques, the best classes, and tuition options for students in Singapore, whether they’re preparing for the PSLE, O-Level, or A-Level exams.
Singapore Math Learning Techniques
Singapore math learning techniques have gained international recognition for their effectiveness in helping students understand complex mathematical concepts. These techniques focus on conceptual understanding, visualization, and problem-solving skills, as opposed to rote learning or memorization. Here are some key techniques that students can use to improve their math skills:
1. Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) Approach
This is one of the core methods in Singapore math. It starts by teaching students mathematical concepts with concrete objects (such as blocks or counters), then moves to pictorial representations (drawings or diagrams), and finally to abstract symbols (numbers and equations). This step-by-step approach ensures that students develop a deep understanding of the math concepts.
2. Model Drawing
Model drawing is a powerful problem-solving tool taught in math classes in Singapore. It involves creating bar models to represent mathematical situations visually. This technique helps students break down complex word problems into manageable parts, making it easier to solve them.
3. Number Bonds
Number bonds teach students how numbers can be split into parts, helping them understand the relationship between addition and subtraction, or multiplication and division. This technique is particularly useful for young students in math tuition for PSLE in Singapore, as it forms the foundation for more advanced math concepts.
Math Problem-Solving Skills for Students
Developing math problem-solving skills for students is essential to their academic success, particularly in exams like PSLE, O-Level, and A-Level. Problem-solving is more than just applying formulas; it requires critical thinking, logical reasoning, and creativity. Here are some skills that students can develop to improve their math problem-solving abilities:
1. Understand the Problem
Before attempting to solve a math problem, students must understand what the problem is asking. This involves identifying the key information, the relationships between the numbers, and the operations needed to solve the problem.
2. Choose the Right Strategy
There are various strategies for solving math problems, such as drawing diagrams, using algebra, or applying known formulas. At Kiya Learning, we help students develop a repertoire of problem-solving strategies so that they can approach different types of questions with confidence.
3. Check Your Work
Many students lose marks in exams because of simple mistakes. A good problem solver always checks their work to ensure that the solution makes sense and is free of calculation errors.

Classroomscreen: How to use it to teach
Article from Teach&Learn by Luke Edwards (July 24, 2024)
Edwards’ article brings attention to a new teaching resource for educators that can be used in multiple ways. The classroom screen is an easily accessed online modern version whiteboard. The classroom screen is an online digital whiteboard that is controlled by teachers and is free to use. There are a selection of ready made screens, widgets, photos and stickers that can used in a variety of ways to meet the classroom needs at the time. The classroom screen also has specific subject tailored options and can make sharing information an easy process that is not time consuming for teachers.
My thoughts
I was so excited to find this article because it gave me a chance to mess around on classroom screen. I spent maybe 30 minutes on the website and have already figured out so many different ways to incorporate this resource into my classroom. The website was very easy to use and took no time at all to put together a screen.
Classroom management
One way I would use classroom screen is as a classroom management tool. I was able to add a clock with the current time, a max noise level and a time to let them know how much time they have left with the current activity. This is a great way for students to quickly check if they are being to loud, what time is it and roughly where they should be with their activity. This screen would allow my class to self regulate and keeps them from asking questions that they can now answer for themselves with one glance.
Lesson activities
Another way I would use classroom screen is to do lesson activities with my students. This is an example of a math subitizng activity. I added a name generator, a dice and some numbers for students to circle. This would allow me to randomly choose a name and have the students click the dice and then circle the name. Definitely a fun and engaging way of teaching subitizing to my students!
Check-ins
I really liked the pools that classroom screen has. I thought about using these polls to check in with my students and get feedback from them to see how they enjoyed an activity that they have done. I could do the subitizing activity and check their enjoyment of the activity.
Daily schedule
Another way I might use classroom screen is to go over the classroom schedule with the students. If I wanted to I could leave this on the side of the screen all day while I have other classroom screen activities going on. Classroom screen allows you to use split screen so I can leave this up easily while having my other classroom screens up.
Strategies
The last way I came up with to use classroom screen is to create a page with strategies for students to glance at when doing an activity. I could put math strategies or reading strategies. I could even create a thematic word wall that I could put up during writing. This would allow me to save time from putting something up in the room or if I don’t have any wall space. It would also allow students to know exactly where to look for their strategies and keep them from having to get up to go find them. My students could also help me create these strategy screens!
Overall, I found classroom screen an amazing classroom resource with so many different ways to use that will help me as an educator. All of these different screens I made took a few minuets at most and would be easy to teach my own students to use to help me create our classrooms screens. This is definitely a resource I will be using in my own classroom in the future!
