i think about the ghosts with callsigns all the fucking time. bc ajax's is self-explanatory. BUT grim, torch, neptune, kick, AND EVEN HESH??? knowing the military's approach to nicknames, even the dope ass callsigns gotta have some kinda embarrassing backstories
#cod ghosts#feel like neptune is probs the only one with a semi normal backstory like its based off an interest or sum#riddian poe is just a name that sounds like it came out of a brothers grimm story so they called him that#even elias n his “scarecrow” now thats spooky man#torch was probably a pyromaniac and their demo guy#we will never know how we got HESH

I want fairytales and stories. Grimm’s fairytales. Hans Christian Andersen fairytales. I know those, but I want MORE. I want EVERY fairytale and story from EVERY culture. Common, uncommon, the whole shebang. I want to experience the wonder of woven words.
#ghost posts#thinking about that one story of the bad groom that threw the bride’s family to the wolves to save his own skin#only for him to get eaten himself#I think it was Russian maybe?#fairytale#stories#I love stories sm#the girl that wove nettle shirts for her brother#I know beauty and the beast is it’s own story as well#I don’t prefer the Grimm retellings but I appreciate the stories#if only that they can be retold to a different setting or even less gruesome#Andersen’s little mermaid is sad but I appreciate it#and appreciate the happier retellings#I’ve heard people say the original beauty and the beast story is weird#but haven’t read it myself to check#love fanciful stories so much

Graveyard Favors
AKA "The Lazarus Pit doesn't exist and Jason Todd crawls out of his grave. Only for a huge, red-eyed dog to escort him to the Ghost King, who apologies for making him a zombie. But, uh, I can kill your murderer for you?" prompt!
(Also known as Grimm!Cujo plays fetch with a Zombie Robin and Danny's just trying to undo a really, really bad clerical error.)
I like the idea of Cujo playing as a sort of Church Grimm, Charon (Ferryman of the Styx River in the Underworld), and Cerberus. He protects graves, guides the dead, and is Danny's personal guard dog to the entrance of the Infinite Realms. There are portals in every graveyard across the Realms because ghosts typically haunt where their bodies are. The King's servants collect the ghosts from Earth graves and safely into the Ghost Zone.
But what happens when a ghost re-enters its original dead body?? Do the servants just... shrug it off, say it's an Earth problem? Or do they do the workplace equivalent of going to the manager? I like the idea that it's actually Danny's fault and he's scrambling to keep it under wraps, to not do any worse of a job than he already is (he's still young for a Ghost King, he's going to make a lot of mistakes early on, right?).
Maybe Danny wasn't paying attention to his paperwork, had been stamping documents with his Royal Seal without really reading it, and Clockwork slipped in an Undead Appeal form in Danny's pile to teach him a lesson. The Appeal is for one Jason Todd-Wayne, located in a small plot in Gotham City.
So, Danny does what any person trying to undo a really bad mistake does. He says, "Don't worry about it, I'm taking care of it!" Except it's literally a human being he reanimated after being dead for several months. He's utterly terrified he's created the first of an unstoppable zombie plague or he's going to Ghost Jail for unknowingly violating the Geneva Convention of the Ghost Zone. Either way, Danny knows he has to handle this himself.
And there's Jason, leaning against a wolf-sized Cujo, at the foot of his grave. He looks... lost. Exhausted, alone. And Danny's like, oh, Hells, I did that. That's my fault. Cujo snuffles worriedly against Jason's face.
"Jason? Jason Todd?" Danny calls out. He wonders belatedly if he should've worn his High King of Infinite Realms attire, but he's still in Tucker's ratty Amity-Uni sweater and ripped jeans. Jason looks up at him from where he's now slouched against Cujo, slowly inching his way closer to the ground.
"I-my name's Danny. I'm-"
"Hospital," Jason rasps, nearly fully on the ground now. And oh, yeah, being freshly undead probably isn't as easy as switching between human and Ghost. Hells, what was he thinking? So, Danny finds himself in the Gotham Hospital waiting room as Jason's being treated and he's sitting there thinking about how to reintroduce himself. He can't be a stuttering, unsure mess when he's admitting to a grave error. Would Jason even believe him? Probably not, right?
That's how Jason Todd wakes up to the High King of Infinite Realms, Space, and the Dead next to his beside.
Danny admits his mistake, apologizes, and offers a Royal Boon in the form of an unbreakable vow. Anything his zombie needs or wants, the High King will provide. He probably should've expected it when Jason immediately says he wants to murder the Joker, brutally, painfully. Personally.
It's surprisingly easy to sign a Death Warrant.
(Later, after the Joker's prolonged and agonizing death is reported by the Gotham News, Jason asks Danny for money. Danny's like?? I already helped you avenge your murder?? And Jason just guilt-trips the ever-loving shit out of him. You brought me back from the dead a penniless and homeless zombie, you even said you'd provide for me, but now you're takin' it back?? Are you a fuckin' liar?? Danny's like, no, you're right, I'm so, so, so sorry, here's like 20k in Ancient Gold. Cue side-story of Danny unintentionally becoming Jason "Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss" Todd's sugar daddy.)

This is kinda silly but any ideas on why Idia’s last name is Shroud? I only have one idea that connects to the Greek mythology aspect, and it’s that it is a reference to the Odyssey and how Penelope weaves a shroud to stall the suitors, but I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
The shroud Penelope wears is an interesting theory considering Idia’s own social anxiety 🤔 He has trouble in face-to-face communication and appears remotely via his tablet. Idia also cannot speak comfortably in-person without obscuring his face with a helmet or mask (in the case of his Halloween and Masquerade costumes), sometimes even opting to use his own inventions just to get out of public speaking. For example, he has to give a presentation on his research in book 5, but ends up making a device that allows him to simulate his speaking voice by typing in what he wants to say.
"Shroud" may also refer to the cloth that cover the face of the deceased in ancient Greek funeral rites. This helps to prepare the body and the spirit to pass into the Underworld, which is, of course, ruled over by the God of the Dead, Hades--the same character that Idia is twisted from.
Someone else proposed that the Shroud surname is potentially a reference to The Shroud, a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. In some versions, the title is The Burial Shirt or The Little Shroud, the latter of which is exactly how Malleus refers to Ortho.
The Shroud tells the tale of a mother who loses her 7-year old child (an age which is close to when Ortho died). She is so taken by her grief that she weeps every day. Then one day the ghost of her deceased child visits her and asks her to please stop crying, for her tears weigh down his shroud and prevents him from sleeping peacefully. Only when the mother dries her tears does the story come to its conclusion. The Shroud reads like an extended metaphor for coming to accept the passing of a loved one, which has obvious parallels with Idia coming to terms with his own family member’s death.

the first doodles of Fin as i was figurin em out...
Ramshackle reads very haunted mansion to me, so leaned into that for the design aesthetic x1000!! ramshackle already has haunted mansion green, and its purples kinda make Grims purple magestone make sense? the crest is still a work in progress...
and landed on the name C.FIN because im very punny and wanted to match the punny themes of the other dorms...
Grim sets the tone for Ramshackle, whose theme i take to be about STORIES and DEATH. (grimms fairy tales, grim reaper, grim grinning ghosts)... Id been scratching my head about it until BINGO!! realized it stared me in the face at the end of every chapter. Fin as in endings... of stories and of ALL things... And C.Fin ("coffin") just to be a lil extra cheeky about it hehehe

Thank you @run-for-chamo-miles for the tag!
In 2024, I posted 9 fics totaling 339,207 words, which is fucking batshit even if some of those words were written in 2023. My most popular fic in terms of kudos is arsonist Baz and firefighter Simon 🔥. But in terms of bookmarks, it's Blood Sugar Sex Moony (wolfstar), which includes my favorite bookmark ever ⬇️
Fics listed below the cut, plus a heartfelt PSA ❤️
January
Blood Sugar Sex Moony (wolfstar, E, 63.6K)
A vengeance-fueled, Buffy-inspired, 90s high school AU with a 17-person body count, featuring amazing art by @spikesteaseasalt.
A Little Bit Deadly (snowbaz, E, 48.9K)
New York City firefighter Simon Snow mistakenly downloads Grindr instead of Tinder and falls for British arsonist Baz Pitch. Featuring DEREK JETER and the most heart-warming art by @letraspal.
March
The Tale of a Magic-Sucking Hoover and a Rat-Drinking Monster (snowbaz, E, 38.7K)
Ghost mums, sentient buildings, and sex toys. Oh my!
June
Only Creatures (snowbaz, E, 88K)
Sad poet Baz Pitch and dragon camboy Simon Snow. Featuring Baz's beard, the hybrid-creatures camming site, OnlyCreatures, and a cameo by Taylor Swift, as well as absolutely gorgeous art by @artsyunderstudy.
October
Sidney Snow Grimm-Pitch (snowbaz, M, 43.7K)
My delightful collaboration with @artsyunderstudy, and a gift for @cutestkilla whose fic What's Left inspired this getting together later in life mpreg. Yes, mpreg.
whatever beats beneath (firstprince, E, 5.1K)
My foray into the RWRB fandom, when I thought I was writing an omarashi fic for a Kinktober prompt, but instead wrote an exploration of grief.
November
Pink Salt (Saltburn, E, 23.1K)
Sometimes the greatest love story is between an undead baker and the man who didn't realize he was a necromancer when he fucked his grave.
Bound Together in Five Dimensions (snowbaz, E, WIP, 4.7K and growing)
My CORB collab with @stardustasincocaine! I won't say anymore because we're posting the next chapter very, very soon 🩷
December
Out of the Game (firstprince, E, WIP, 23.9K and growing)
Another RWRB, this time scratching my itch to write in the detective/spy thriller genre. In the spirit of the Will Darling Adventures, and featuring truly inspired literary works by Henry, and an Alex who is perhaps not to be trusted. But then again, maybe Henry needs a little chaos in his life.
And finally, a PSA, written as much as a reminder to myself, as to anyone else who feels like their writing doesn't quite fit anywhere:
When I posted my first fanfic (wolfstar), no one read me. We’re talking like four kudos in a fandom where fics go viral. And at some point I thought, maybe I should attempt to write things that people actually want to read?
I love writing deeply romantic stories, but I love stories like True Romance or The Shape of Water. Two people who are perfect for each other, but one is mute and the other is a fish god from Brazil. One stabs Tony Soprano in the foot with a corkscrew and the other communicates with an hallucination of Elvis.
Finally, I found the Carry On fandom who enthusiastically embraced my Baz who excelled "at both deep-throating cock and scorching motherfuckers like a vengeance demon in floral Tom Ford." And then finally, finally, almost a year after it posted, people in the wolfstar fandom started reading Blood Sugar Sex Moony. Now, almost every day, I get kudos and (sometimes delightfully unhinged) comments on my wolfstar too.
I don’t imagine I’ll ever be really, really popular, but I’ve found a group of readers — or they’ve found me — who appreciate the way my brain works, and little old high school me, who always believed that the best love stories are the strangest ones, knows that they are not alone.
So my PSA to everyone out there who feels like Nora Ephron trapped in David Lynch trapped in Wes Craven — or whatever your unmarketable combo may be — keep on doing you. One day you will find your people 🩷
Also, thank you to everyone who read, kudos-ed, and commented on my fics, and a special shout out to all of the wonderful friends I've made in the Carry On fandom. Y'all have brightened my 2024.
And now, tags!
@bookish-bogwitch @monbons @roomwithanopenfire @fiend-for-culture @you-remind-me-of-the-babe
@thewholelemon @mooncello @iamamythologicalcreature @rimeswithpurple @orange-peony

@hushed-chorus @rbkzz @noblecorgi @facewithoutheart @larkral
@euripidestrousers @r33sespieces @artsyunderstudy @cutestkilla @letraspal
Plus anyone who wants to play. (I imagine this can be done for art too. Or dolls!)
