Redo's and Rememberance
A snip pit of the fic !'m writing that's heavily based on @randomhedgie SWTD Au!
(Cut from the middle)
“Gregor I wasn't stationed near the helipad yesterday, I was in engineering?”
The rig shook violently, followed by the roar of screeching metal as the rig swayed. The crates slammed into his shoulder. His foot slipped when another explosion shook the rig, he saw archie holding onto the helicopter.
“Gregor? What's wrong-”
Caz is running towards him, when did he get here? Gregors hands are slipping. air is whipping at his face the ocean waves roar in his ears, he’s falling and then-
“GREGOR”
He chokes, his lungs filling with water air faster than his brain can catch up. The wind whips at his face as he falls, his body crashing to the floor. He doesn't know when his legs gave out under him or his hands gripped the sides of his head to try and muffle the roar of rushing blood in his ears

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 6 ~
Rennick's Comeuppance:
And here we are. The last chapter to wrap up this 'Lifting the Fog' Arc. Yes, I'll keep writing more in the future but I have art to post and I want to focus on my own writing. Thank you to everyone who's continued to read these chapters, and I hope you enjoy!
TW: Blood.
Part 7:
'Oi, McLeary!' Muir called. 'Give Rennick a good kick up the arse.'
Caz wasn't going to give Rennick a good kick up the arse.
Along with Brodie, he hid behind a filing cabinet and waited for Rennick to pass. When they arrived into Administration, Caz could feel something. It didn't cause a splitting headache or his vision to blur, but he assumed it to be The Shape trying its best to tempt him. Neither saw Rennick turn. As far as they were concerned, the old fud was happily tucked away in his office before trying to get to the helipad. That must have been his point of infection. They had noticed The Shape reaching over the handrail, but not much. Rennick must have touched it by accident then fell when the rig began to shake. In a twisted way, turning saved his life, and that wasn't in Caz and Brodie's plan.
They just wanted to find Rennick, drag him to Accommodation and get a verbal beat down by everyone there. Gregor was gone, Davros was missing and even if they didn't like Rennick, they had to try. Caz had brought Trots back from the brink. Douglas found Gibbo and Innes with Muir. Unknown to them, O'Connor had a role to play with Addair. Now, it was Rennick's turn. There was just one problem. No one knew anything about him, nor did anyone like him. Could the reflection trick be enough? Apparently not, because they either heard a mirror or a glass door shatter and Rennick scream in frustration which bled into disgust. He gagged and began to hyperventilate. The pair almost felt bad for him, until he turned back to blind rage and broke into the wall.
They left their hiding spots, awkwardly clambered over the collapsed door that kept them safe and followed the destruction Rennick left in his wake. The further apart they were, the less Caz could sense him.
'The state of this place...'
The men's eyes constantly moved in all directions. Caz looked over his shoulders at the slightest noise. Brodie stared at the floor for any glass they could avoid. Both awkwardly shuffled pass a piece of the discoloured Shape in single-file. It was eerily quiet. Had Rennick gone into the under rig? Or was he lying in wait?
Caz turned his head. He could sense Rennick to the left. Looking through a giant hole in the wall revealed the site manager, standing in a crumbling office, where its outerwall had been bulldozed, allowing the cold yet crisp air in. He grabbed Brodie's shoulder and nodded in the direction. A shiver ran up their spines. They watched Rennick stare out to the sea with a distant look in his eyes. Seemed he's tired himself out.
'Stay here.' It was no secret that Brodie was someone Rennick respected to some degree. He never had been called to the office in the six years he's been stationed at The Beria for the insults. The only time he has was to introduce Raffs and make sure he signed the correct paperwork. If anyone had a chance to talk to him how Douglas did for Gibbo, it was Brodie. Or Finlay, but she wasn't here.
'Rennick?' The older man instantly turned and stared at the diver who held his hands up to show he wasn't going to hurt him. Not like he could. 'It's okay. But, can you move away from the edge? This place is falling apart.' Right on cue, a piece of the ceiling landed between them. Rennick stared. 'It's me. It's Brodie.'
'Yes, I know it's you, you pillock. Stop talking me to like I'm some fuckin' wild animal!'
Well, that was unexpected. The fog had already been lifted from Rennick. His voice hadn't been tainted by The Shape trying to copy him. He showed chronic pain, but all of the infected did during and after being brought back from the brink. Brodie began to relax, or as best as he could when your boss could literally eat you alive.
'Okay, that's good. Look, everyone's meeting up in Accommodation. Archie and Roper are taking care of the rescue.'
'As they fucking well should.' He huffed and noticed Caz poking his head around the corner. Anger quickly boiled to the surface as Rennick pushed pass Brodie in the most gentle way he could. 'You have some fuckin' nerve still being here, McLeary.'
'Well, I wasn't gonna swim back to Scotland now, was I?'
Brodie game him a look. It basically said 'Please shut up and let me handle this,' but Caz didn't notice.
'I still expect you to fuck off when we get back to shore. Do you underst-'
'What the fuck is your problem?!' And there goes any little progress Brodie made. 'We practically keep this rig afloat day and night, whilst you stay nice and cosy in your little cabin. The only time you see us is to give us lip. And look us now. Even after we hit whatever the fuck that is out there, you're still hiding away whilst we do all the work. You told me you had more hairs on your fat crack that can bring more positive contributions, so fuckin' prove it!'
Silence.
All the colour in Brodie's face vanished. Rennick glared. Caz glared back. Even the sea fell quiet.
'...I told you to go, McLeary.' Rennick's voice twisted. He began to snarl between his words and contorted his face.
'Rennick, don't!' Brodie's words fell on deaf ears.
Caz took a quick glance in the direction of the door. If this was going to get Rennick outside, then so be it.
'I'LL MAKE YOU FUCKIN' GO!'
Caz didn't wait to hear the end of Rennick's sentence. He turned and ran. With a roar, Rennick followed. Brodie ducked and held his head as more ceiling tiles fell around him. He watched the pair leave. 'Rennick, stop. Rennick!'
You could say this was a bad idea. Why bring Caz along when Rennick was rightfully pissed he had used The Beria to hide from the police since August? Well, in all honesty, no one wanted to go. Plus, Caz had hoped whatever was happening would be enough of a distraction. What Caz didn't take into consideration was the fact he used The Beria to hide from the police since August.
Rennick followed Caz with little thought. He didn't stop to think that he was luring him outside. He crashed into walls at tight turns, smashed the interior windows and trampled chairs. A tendril set off the fire extinguisher that bounced off the walls and nearly hit Brodie, who was falling behind as he had to navigate the floors to not fall through.
The double doors were in view. Caz picked up the pace. Rennick's screams of frustration could be heard outside. Archie and his crew, Roper and the rest of Marine Control and Engineering, everyone on Deck and some in Accommodation turned in the general direction. They all knew and nearly everyone's face turned as white as a ghost. The last thing they needed was for Rennick to be infected. They screamed for Caz as he appeared, nearly falling as he made a sharp turn along the catwalk to his right. His body got low as he turned with a slide. Rennick, still with tunnel vision, smashed into the railing that caused his infection. The railing bent under his weight and he nearly fell with it, but he regained hit 'footing' and followed. Brodie still had the long corridor to get through. Every step had to be perfectly calculated.
Caz could feel Rennick practically breathing down his neck. He was too close. The old man was fast. Getting down the ladder, let alone to it impossible. In a sudden act of desperation, he grabbed the railing and jumped. He didn't think how high the fall would be, just as long as he gained some distance. A tendril from Rennick reached out to pull Caz back, but another caught him first. A tendril from Muir wrapped around Caz's waist and pulled him to safety, landing between the group. It all happened so fast, when he touched the ground, the leccy fell to his knees as he tried to catch his breath. 'Let's not do that again,' he told himself.
Innes patted his shoulder and with O'Connor, pulled the man up.
There wasn't anytime to talk. Caz didn't have time to register Addair before they all felt a bang. Rennick jumped onto the Deck and stared at Caz with a wild look in his eyes, also catching his breath. He didn't show it, but he realised how he'd been tricked to come out of hiding. He glanced at everyone he could see. A part of him was relieved he wasn't the only infected. Compared to Addair and Muir, he started to feel less disguisted with himself. At least he still had his head and his organs weren't exposed.
'Not bad, McLeary.' Brodie watched from the catwalk. 'Not bad.' He felt all eyes on him. There was no reaction. No one going to comfort him or even ask if he was alright. Just staring with empty or angry eyes. Rennick remained strong, but he could tell this was a losing battle. 'What?!' He snapped and turned to his left where O'Connor and his group stood with Roper above. He turned to the right. 'Don't you dare look at me like that. I'm not the one who got us into this shit. I'm not the one who activated the drill. If you want someone to blame, then you should all be looking at Gibbo, or Roper. They're the ones who decided to drill through this stuff.' Everyone stared. They could tell Rennick was grasping at straws. Anger bubbled. Trots and Gibbo made their way down to the Deck. 'I'm the one giving you all a roof over your heads. The one who makes sure you have money to pay your bills or send back to your families. And this is how you thank me? By turning me into this thing?! I should fire each and every one of you-'
A tendril slapped Rennick across the face, with such force his head jerked to the side, leaving a deep cut. With one of his 'arms' he touched it and noticed his blood dripping. He turned. It was Gibbo. The man had a both a hurt and angered look in his eye. He was trying to hold back his tears.
'Because of you...' He tried to be strong, but he began to cry. The chain was still wrapped around a tendril. 'My boy has to see his father look like this for the rest of his life!' Rennick gritted his teeth.
'Get to fuck, Gibson! It's your fault that oil got on y-' Another slap from Gibbo. This time, it cut above Rennick's eyebrow and this time Rennick didn't fight back. He felt everyone's eyes on him. His usual tactics of verbally abusing his crew into making themselves carry the blame wasn't working. A sense of anxiety spread across his body. It tensed and Rennick couldn't bring himself to look away from the floor. He kept one eye covered from Gibbo's cut. His lips tightened and turned in on themselves. His breath became shaky. Rennick wanted to be sick. There was no convincing. The King had lost his followers and his Empire was in ruins.
'Stop looking at me! Stop it. Don't you dare look at me like that. Go away. Go away!' The words flooded his mind. He didn't know who it was, but hearing footsteps was enough. He turned and dashed across the Deck, before climbing back to Administration, nearly hitting Brodie as he vanished over the building.
Silence.
There was no cheers. No one said anything. To answers your question, it was Roper's footstep that caused Rennick to leave. Trots placed a hand on Gibbo, who didn't feel guilty at all for slapping his boss twice. In fact, he felt relieved. It felt good. Still didn't stop his tears. Caz shared a glance up to Brodie who gave a thumbs up before climbing down the ladder. Archie and Roper exchanged a look. The pilot nodded and moved back to the helipad, ready to fly back to the mainland to enforce an emergency rescue. Finlay turned and noticed.
'Oi, you lot. Is it supposed to be doing that?'
The Shape had now gone completely grey. It's pulse stopped. Then it began to crumble. Slowly flakes chipped away, before pieces no bigger than a finger nail followed at a much faster pace. Everyone on The Beria. D Oil Rig watched The Shape disintegrate into a dust cloud. The wind carried it back to sea, leaving only the dust inside to be swept up by someone later.
A sensation came over Caz. He held his head, but passed it off as him removing his hard-hat to run a hand through his hair. Since being rescued by Brodie and Douglas, he had a splitting headache and blurred vision whenever he got close to The Shape and the infected. He could faintly hear Suze calling for him like a song, but since the rig began to shake, it all seemed to stop. All he could feel was the presence of the infected. What he just felt was The Shape finally being put to rest. He was free from its grasp.
'It's...dead.'
For a brief moment, the infected waited to be turned back into their human form, but to no avail. A crushing blow. On the bright side, seeing whatever The Shape was dissappear was a huge weight off everyone's shoulder.
'...What now?' Trots asked. Caz shrugged and put his hard-hat back on.
'Well, we do have a darts tournament to finish.'

STILL WAKES THE DEEPERS COME GET YOUR DINNER!!!
youtube
[BODY HORROR AND FLASHING WARNING]
Thoughts under the cut (it gets lengthy)!
So.. we´re finally here huh? Took me a little over a week, but its done at last!
I´ll be honest, the idea first came to me when I listened to the song. I was brainrotting so bad on Still Wakes the Deep, I think I could´ve twisted anything into being about it haha. But this song actually fits it super well. ¨You lose touch with all the things that made you feel sane.¨ fits especially well with Caz, as everything that sort of grounds him on the rig during the shape infestation, the things that make him feel sane (mostly his friends) are all things he loses. In many cases, right in front of him. He also loses his family, as he realizes hes never going to get back to them, and, at the end, he loses himself too.
I tried to draw Caz´s hair progressively worse as his mental and physical state do. At his very best, particularly in the flashbacks at the end, his hair is shaped very specifically. But the more he goes through, the worse it gets, until at the very end where its just a tangled mess. Also his emotions, obviously towards the end he is still super emotional and stuff but I had hoped to sort of make it more...subdued? Maybe that´s not the right word, but he´s been through so much that his reactions aren´t as big to things, he doesn´t quite have the enough energy. He still Goes Through It with Finlay, but after that he´s giving you a constant 5000 yard stare. The, ¨I just watched every single one of my closest friends die in front of me¨ look.¨
Even when he gets to the derrick, he can only stare at the shape abyss.
He´s also in terrible physical condition and I tried to illustrate that with the scene of him standing up after Finlay dies. He is literally on his last legs, he is so, so tired.
also!! three flashy sequences in very quick succession at the end! do you know why? because Caz starts to See. The first, after Brodie dies, is a bunch of unique images about Caz. The people, things, and parts of himself that he is losing or has lost. Accompanied by other things, parts of himself, his life, etc.
There´s also these two images of Muir and Innes that I love very much.
The second one happens as he holds the lighter above the oil abyss! This ones just people he lost. And the third is everything that happened in the pmv flashing before his eyes. Because it is Quite a journey he has been on.
But you know why these flash? because Caz realizes that every step he is taking is one step closer to his death. Because he realizes that he is never going to get off the rig. because he realizes that he is going to die here. So hes thinking about Everything. His life, his family, friends, the horrors he went through, the things he lost and the things he will never, ever get back.
He also hallucinates Suze a lot in the pmv, but unlike in the game its not flashback sequences and she is not normal Suze. Until the end, when he´s reflecting on his life, its Suze With Tendrils!! Shape infected wife!!
and then at the end, she becomes more normal. Because he is flashing through the events of his life. also because he misses her, but he knows that by doing what he is doing, Shape Suze will never, ever exist. She will be safe.
I had a fun time drawing all the scenes in the pmv, but a select few are my favorite.
For example: The Beira D Bookends!
At the beginning and the end of the pmv, you get a full shot of the Beira D!
I like these scenes because I love having secret things like this. The bookends,,, ough do u guys get it they´re bookends... The Beira D is where it all takes place, in the game, and in the pmv. It is the first and last thing you see as Caz, and the first and last thing he sees in the 24 hours this takes place in. It is a very significant location, which is why it bookends the pmv.
Addair and Caz at the Stack:
Getting to animate this whole sequence was a blast. It´s my absolute favorite part of the game! Followed closely by the ending, but still my most favorite. I just think its a really cool part of the game, and it plays a lot into my Addair headcanons so!!! pretty sick!!
Caz´s Memories:
After he drops the lighter, Caz and his family are shown again. You can see him and Suze reconnecting (as well as the fact that I yoinked @inky-ash´s headcanon about them meeting up after he got punched in the face). He also plays with a young Cait. and drawing the hug between them just about made my eyes misty, because he really loves his family,,,, auuuughh,,,
also. the wedding photo.
I didnt really try with their outfits honestly, but I still really love how this came out. the wedding photo means so much to me...
The Lighter:
a little extra bit about the lighter. I drew when it was handed to Finlay, and when she handed it back to Caz. There´s no real scene parellells between these scenes, but I do really love them, and the whole fact that the Lighter was originally given to Finlay before she gave it back to Caz.
The Scene That Is Most Definitely Not A Reference:
Just kidding. it is.
The pose and composition is indeed a self-indulgent reference to the first artwork I made of Still Wakes The Deep!
Sinking:
The first time you see Caz in the pmv? He´s unconscious in the ocean, and sinking.
and the last time you see him? Unconcious, in an ocean, and sinking.
boy I sure do love parallels and things.
The Helmet:
at the very end, his helmet appears in the waves, before sinking below the surface. This is another self-indulgent little detail that serves as a nod to my headcanon!
I also just generally enjoyed drawing Caz and his facial expressions. That man means so much to me, so it was awesome to draw him so much!
also, I think its funny you can tell exactly when I figured out what the Cadal logo looks like, or that there even was a logo on the uniforms.
If you watched the pmv, or read this far, thank you so much!! This game means so much to me, and I´m so glad I could make this pmv. I love all the support this fandom has given me so far, so thank you! Thank you so much! Couldn´t have done this without such an awesome fandom <333

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 13: ~
Operation Spy Part 2:
There's not much to say here. Other than that, I never expected to do this many chapters and still have so many people reading every time I post. I'm truly grateful for all of you, and I hope you all stick around for the next 10 chapters I have planned.
Part 14:
Bernard Cunningham was exactly how you'd picture a stereotypical chairman. A tall, large man in his 40s, with brown hair and matching moustache, that would make Gibbo blush and wearing a 3 piece green suit. Oh, and smoked expensive cigars. Can't forget that.
Caz sat opposite the way overpriced mahogany desk and caught quick glances at the possible fake awards, all neatly hung in the office that was bigger than his living room. Of course, the office was several stories high. As Bernard helped himself to a cigar, Caz quickly caught a glimpse of the crane lifting the infected containers off the ship and onto the docks. His leg began to bounce. Still couldn't feel their presence from this height. Everyone else who wasn't infected sat outside in a large waiting lobby. He was last to be questioned. At least he was back in his own clothes. His work clothes had a stink that would never come off.
Something else was odd. No police. Nothing. Billy couldn't have dropped the charges. Did they only send a letter off to Beria? They didn't have to go through the higher ups? Technically, it was Rennick's. He owned the place. If it went straight to Beria, then he had no time to call the police and let them know. He had his own phone to reach the mainland, and Administration also had theirs for whenever the crew needed some time with family. And, ironically enough, besides Gregor and Davros, all of Administration were missing. Still, Caz had to keep his guard up. This was his last chance to slip past them. They probably had no idea the rig was evacuated, and why would they? This wasn't their problem.
'Right, Mr. McLeary.' Bernard's booming voice brought Caz out of his endless thoughts. 'Tell me what happened to my rig?' Oh, it was a good thing Rennick wasn't here. Like Caz with Roper, some of his attitude must have rubbed off on him because he had to bite back from correcting Bernard.
'I dunno,' he answered. 'It all just fucking-'
'Please no swearing in my office.'
'It all just fell apart.'
'Just like that?'
'I guess,' Caz shrugged. 'Construction isn't my forte.'
'But you saw what happened?'
'Yes. The f-' He paused and composed himself. 'Pieces just fell into the North Sea.'
'Alright.' Bernard began to jot down notes. If Caz didn't feel like this was an interrogation, then it certainly felt one now. Another quick glance to docks. 'And how did you follow protocol?' It was now Caz realised this was going to be a long day.
'I listened to Rennick and went to find anyone who needed assistance.'
'Oh, and not fix any electrics?'
'Things were important.'
'Such as?'
Was this guy serious?
'The wellbeing of my coworkers.' Caz couldn't help himself. He reverted back to his youth when he would sarcastically answer back to the headmaster, explaining why the student he beat up deserved it. 'The place was already falling apart, and thankfully, the backup generators hadn't switched on. The leccy was fine. Engineering had that covered.'
'And what of Rennick? The man wasn't listed as a survivor. Do you know what happened?'
Caz shrugged. 'My guess, he fell from the Beria when it began to shake.'
'And the others?' Bastard didn't even know their names.
'I tried to get Gregor.' The memory came back. Caz's composure began to slip, and his breathing began to labour. There was a sadness in his eyes as he looked to the floor. His fingers began to tap against each other. 'But I couldn't reach him.'
Bernard continued to write down the answers. 'That makes the payouts easier...'
And just like that, something snapped in Caz. His face dropped, and his skin turned pale. He slowly looked back up, trying to make eye contact with the chairman.
'Excuse me?'
Bernard ignored the question. Caz thought more. He began to think if he was in Rennick's position and then everything he had noticed on the bulletin boards. He knew Rennick was cutting corners, but someone gave him the budget to build Beria. Money never comes out of a buisness man's own pocket, especially for a rig. Caz looked back at Bernard. Rennick's voice ran through his head.
'I know you all hate me, but you should all share that hatred towards Cadal.'
'Please. If it was up to me, I would have stopped the drilling. But Cadal, that Bernard prick, would have rung all our necks.'
Now, Caz understood. Bernard Cunningham was a weasel-bodied, rat-faced, snake. His body tensed, trying his best not to jump the table and do what he did to Billy to this prick. Because of this cheap bastard, Gregor, Davros, and the others were dead. Rennick was right. It all linked back to him. He had to look away.
The last container was lowered onto the docks. Everyone from Beria held their breath. No one could stop it. They all knew this would happen, but what would happen next? A man opened the door to Muir's container, and a horrified scream echoed across all of Scotland. They fell onto their back, others came to look in curiosity, which was followed by a look of shock, as Muir stepped out along with Innes.
'Oh, shut up, mate,' Innes snapped. 'Can't you see I've got a headache?' Too much booze, food and crying from last night.
Using a tendril, Muir opened the other infected doors. Panic spread across the dock employees who saw the others appear from hiding. You couldn't blame them as they all collectively moved away like the infected were lepers or had some form of contagious disease. Obviously, this wasn't what they had in mind. But, what they couldn't wrap their head around was how normal they were acting. Trots, being the closest to looking human, stretched his arms above his head before putting his backpack over a shoulder. 'Finally,' he groaned. 'Thought I was gonna suffocate this there.' He then took in his surroundings and smiled. Land at last. He turned to Gibbo and pointed into the distance. 'Look, Gibbo, it's a tree.'
Gibbo had clearly slept the entire trip. He had a dazed look in his eyes, and his hair, because he was the lucky bastard who didn't lose it through infection, was all over the place. He tossed and turned in his sleep. He forced a tired smile. Trots' genuine happiness was hard to ignore. 'Did you think you'd never see one again?'
Bernard and everyone on from Beria came out onto the dock. Seeing how casual they were, the workers began to relax. Their mouths were still agape, bodies frozen in place and eyes staring at them. It must be a trait of his because Roy tapped one of the man's shoulders.
'Don't stare. They've been through enough.'
Bernard shoved his way to the front. His face went white, and sweat ran down his forehead. 'What...What...' He stepped closer with a look of panic in his eyes. The infected and Innes noticed. They'd never met Bernard before, but they all knew this was him, and they all gave him a dirty glare. 'What the fuck is this?!' Because, they all knew that he wasn't showing panic for their well-being. If it was possible, his pupils would he shaped as the pound sign. He was worried over what this meant for his company and reputation. 'Is this a joke?'
'It's December,' Finlay muttered yet was loud enough for Bernard to hear. How odd.
Bernard frantically looked in all directions, suddenly catching a glimpse of Innes still holding onto Muir. 'And why are you touching it?!' Well, that got everyone to glare. If it wasn't for Innes, Muir would have flung Bernard to London. Addair looked like a predator locked in on its prey. Large, rounded eyes that had no life behind them. Trots debated on punching him, and Gibbo's jaws clenched, and his teeth began to rub. But it was Caz who went to make the first move, rolling up his sleeve and stepping forward. Fuck it. He'll happily punch him into next week.
'Ah, Bernard Cunningham.' That voice. It ran a shiver up Bernard's spine and caused Caz to stop in his tracks. Somehow, Rennick had slipped past over thirty people and crept up to the chairman by scaling the building, who stood frozen in fear. 'Sorry to have given you a scare, and so sorry to get you out of your office.' That light, sing-song tone from that built anxiety for his crew, now made them smile wickedly. One of Rennick's 'arms' wrapped themselves around Bernard's shoulder, and he pulled himself uncomfortably close to his face. Bernard didn't have the courage to look at him. 'But, I think you and I need to have a wee chat.'
'You're supposed to be dead.'
'Now, wouldn't that have made your day?'
Bernard glanced to Caz, who simply shrugged. 'Guess we miscounted.'

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 7: ~
The Confession:
And we're back. New story arc I'm calling 'Before the Rescue.' It's a few mini chapters focusing on various characters getting closure with themselves or each other. This one is for Caz.
Part 8:
With a cigarette hanging from his lips, Roper watched the Deck from the catwalk. It was both a relief and strange to see things back to normal, apart from the obvious. All the infected had the blood washed away and their torn uniform removed. The sky had cleared as dusk approached. Fitting.
Trots seemed to be taking it well. He was sweeping up the dust left by The Shape alongside Roy and Dobbie. Nothing seemed to be bothering him, unless staying busy was his way of coping.
On the Deck, Douglas, Innes and Sunil were going backwards and forwards for spare bedding. The empty shipping containers were going to be makeshift beds. Apart from Trots, because he won the lottery out of the group, the infected couldn't fit in their rooms. Addair managed, because The Shape melted his bones, but as soon as he sat on his bunk, it broke, leaving him shocked and embarrassed. He tried his best not to show it and just muttered under his breath in frustration.
No one had seen Rennick since he vanished, and no one went looking for him. If he wanted to get into everyone's good books, then hiding wasn't the way to do it.
Overall, it was peaceful.
Caz approached and stood besides Roper, leaning against the handrailing. He went to accept a cigarette but refused. 'New Year resolution,' he said, causing Roper to chuckle. 'How ye holding up?'
'Better than you. We actually missed everything in Control.' It was true. Somehow The Shape never spread to Marine Control. A blessing.
'Good. This place would be fucked if it did.'
The Shape may be dead and gone, but the damage remained. Large holes in the floors and ceilings weren't hard to miss. One wrong step and you could still fall into the North Sea. The Pontoons and water tanks had flooded, though O'Connor and his team went back to fix the issue. Administration was a total loss thanks to Rennick's episode of rage and Brodie was constantly keeping an eye on the stack. The lifeboats were also a total loss.
Then there was Gregor.
His body was long gone. It was part of the sea now. Roper was pondering on what to tell his family, because they all knew 'Boss Man' Rennick didn't have the balls to do so himself. What's worse was that Gregor isn't the only one. Davros has been missing for hours. No one could find him. All they could guess was he took a lifeboat and fled. If that was the case then he wasn't alone. Out of the skeleton crew on Beria, eight, not including Gregor and Davros, were gone.
Caz twiddled his thumbs. It wasn't over for the crew, but for him, it was. The victory will be short lived. He knew as soon as he steps back onto the mainland, if they aren't arrested by military, the police will ship him off to the nearest station. How long would he be put away for? Clearly waiting for Billy to drop the charges didn't work. Bastard was always stubborn. The Shape was an interesting distraction, but he had to stop running.
'Roper, you need to know something.' And, as if by divine faith, Roy overheard. He knew what Caz was going to say and approached. Trots and Dobbie didn't notice. Roper turned, noticing Roy but not suspecting anything. 'The reason why I'm even 'ere, and why Rennick needed to see me.' No going back now. 'Well, let's just say I was and am, well and truly fucked.' Roper frowned. Roy stayed quiet. 'I beat up a bloke back in July. Came to Beria to avoid the charges. I...I dunno. Just hoped it would all blow over and I could go back in January all willy-nilly and see me girls, but someone spilt the beans and the police know I'm 'ere.'
Roper trilled his lips and had a conflicting look on his face. Out of everything he expected to hear, knowing a criminal was on board was not one of them. 'Can't say I've got experience in that field, mate. Does anyone else know?'
'N-'
'Yes, I did.' Roy stepped forward and raised his hand like he was back in school. 'I helped Caz get here. Someone back home owed me a favour and put in a good word.'
'Ah. The plot thickens then.' Roper turned away to think. He wasn't someone who could hire and fire like Rennick. Tapping the cigarette on the handrail, then putting it out between his gloved fingers, he'd quickly come to the conclusion that this didn't change how he saw the pair. Sadly he only had one answer. 'I think it's best you tell the others in your own time. If you don't want to, then that's up to you Caz.' But the truth will come out in the end. A former semi-professional boxer being arrested will get back to everyone here.
Caz didn't know if he felt better or not with that answer. He narrowed his eyes and glanced to the crew. None of them knew. Was that for the best? To live in ignorance? Would they hate him if he told them what happened back home? Would Rennick reveal his secret to get back at him? He didn't want to toss Roy into the mix either. The big man might have helped, but he had a home to go back to.
'...I'll.' He huffed. 'I'll think about it.'
Fuck.
Roper patted his shoulder to show support. Honestly, he didn't care. The entire time he's been here, Caz has been a good lad. He worked hard and he did keep this place running more than anyone knew. Just because he wasn't down in Engineering or working the drill itself didn't mean he was useless. Now he had to ask. 'Did you win?'
'Oh, aye. He got to experience a broken nose for once. Suited the bastard more.' The trio got a good laugh out of that comment.
So, who to tell first?
Could tell his little boxing fan base. That would include Innes, O'Connor, McLurg and Sunil. Finlay? She knew something was up since this morning and she's smart enough to put two and two together. Addair? No, but he already had an inkling. 'Ah. Fuck it.'
It must be becoming a little ritual for Caz, because, again, he jumped over the handrailing - nearly giving Roper and Roy a mini heart attack - and landed on the shipping container Brodie, Raffs and Finlay were sitting on. Everyone heard and gave him his full attention.
'Er...Right. Shit.' Deep breaths, Caz. Deep breaths. 'I need everyone's attention.'
'Looks like you've already got that.'
'Yes, thank you, Finlay.' A sigh. 'There's something you all need to know about me.' Caz tapped his foot, looked all the men in the eye and continued. He had no idea, but Rennick was listening from the Under Rig. He was too far away for Caz to sense him but his voice bouncing off the metal structure and equipment could be heard all the way on The Isle of Man. The manager clung to what's left of the railing and listened. 'Now, I know a lot of you know of me past, and you should know I retired from that lifestyle over a decade ago. But, it seems the past keeps coming back to me.' He paused. Caz hadn't noticed he was tapping his thigh with his left hand.
'I beat a man up back home. At first, I thought I was doing the right thing. He said some fuckin' terrible things about me wife that I just lost control. Yes, he was trying to get a raise out of me and whilst he got what he wanted, I should have just walked away. But, I came here to hide from the police. They now know that I'm here. It's why Rennick wanted me. So, when we get back to the mainland, don't be surprised that police cars will be there.' He took another long breath. 'I'm sorry I never told any of you sooner.'
Silence lingered. No one said anything. They all just stared. Caz felt tension brewing. He began to turn away in defeat, his head hanging low.
'Were we supposed to care about any of that?' He stopped. It was Brodie's voice. The diver got to his feet and like Roper, placed a hand on Caz's shoulder. 'Caz, look around you. From all the shit we've been through, do you really think this is going to change anything?' A look and feeling of relief washed over the leccy. He felt a weight being lifted from his shoulders. He turned to the crew, then to Roy and the others on the catwalk, before back to Brodie. 'Don't worry. We'll put a good word in for ya.'
Caz smiled. Then cried. Then laughed.
'Ah you pricks. You're gonna make me cry.' But he did and accepted Brodie's embrace. Then Finlay joined in. Then Raffs. Then Gibbo. Caz had no idea where he came from, but a simple hug was quickly becoming a mosh pit. 'Gah! Okay. You can all stop now.' It didn't, because Muir lifted Caz up he'd just won the Premier league trophy. 'Muir, for fucks sake!'
Rennick didn't come out of hiding. He heard the laughter from the crew. He would be lying if he didn't feel both sad and jealous. It brought back memories when he was Caz's age, maybe even younger, during the war. That feeling of a team effort. The brotherly love. How he missed those days, even if it was a dark time in human history. It brought people together. What happened to him? How did he stray so far from his younger self? Rennick couldn't absorb his head into his body like Gibbo, but how he wished he could. The old man just wanted to hide from the world. For now, he watched the calm waves and longed to return to the past.

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 24: ~
A Lighthouse:
We're in the final 3rd of the story. About another 3-4 chapters left. I hope everyone's enjoyed the journey so far, and with what's the come.
Part 25:
The difference between Caz and Suze was staggering. Whilst she sat to attention on the bench table, without a single slouch in her body, Caz was hunched, twiddling his thumbs as his foot bounced. They had found a small footpath by the side of the garden, which led to a small clearing for the public, less than a quarter of a mile away from the farm. It was only empty because it was out of season. With a deep breath, Caz sat to attention and rested his hands on the table.
'Shit, Caz,' Suze muttered. She held out a hand, and Caz instantly accepted. 'I'm so sorry you had to go through that. All of you.' He told her everything. From when he and Gregor fell into the sea, to watching that thing die and turn to dust.
Suze gave herself a moment to take it all in. She tapped the table with her free hand whilst she thought of what to even say. Her grip on Caz tightened, helping his body relax.
'I heard you.' She frowned. 'In whatever it was. I heard your voice calling to me or repeating things you said.' His grip tightened as well. 'I think I'm infected.' Suze's face fell, and her skin turned white.
'Jesus, Caz. Will you-'
'No,' he interrupted with a shake of his head. 'I would have turned by now.'
'Then, how do you know you're infected?'
'Because, after I was fished out from the sea, I can tell whenever they're nearby. I'm a fucking radar to them now.' Saying that made Caz weakly chuckle, but it was empty. He was tired. So tired. Suze paused for a moment. Now, she knew what to say.
'A lighthouse.'
'What?'
'You're more like a lighthouse.' It took Caz a moment to understand what she was saying, and when it clicked, he just started laughing. He didn't feel tired anymore. Finally, a smile crossed both of their faces. Together, they laughed for a few seconds.
'Well, I'm not going to work on one of those.'
They let their laughter fade. This hard conversation wasn't over yet, but there was a lightness between them. The grey storm cloud lingering above them didn't look angry anymore.
'So, how did you manage to them back?'
'Shipping containers.'
'Don't they go straight to the docks?'
'Aye.' With all that's happened, Caz had to remind himself that was only yesterday. 'Gave that cheap bastard Bernard Cunningham a right-fright. But Rennick got him to turn the other cheek and let us either go home or here. Quiet the adventure, eh?'
'Well, I do remember saying you were feeling adventurous.'
'Yeah. I think I'm ready to go back to flats and shops, if I don't get thrown in jail, but...' Caz's smile vanished. He didn't want to navigate the storm. He had to be brave. 'Will you be there with me?'
'Yes,' Suze answered without a moments hesitation. Caz was surprised by that. 'I took a vow. And, despite what's happened to us over these past months, you're still my love. We can weather this. You, me, and the girls.'
Tears filled his eyes again. Caz lowered his head and composed himself with a deep, shakey breath.
'Has it been hard without me?'
'Aye...'
'What about Billy?'
'He's kept his distance, but he's not dropped the charges. Had a few drop ins from the police, but they've stopped over the last month.'
'I'm sorry.'
'Don't be.'
'Are you okay?'
'I am now.'
'Good.'
For whatever reason, Caz didn't think that far. He knew he was only thinking of himself when he chose to run away, but in his mind, he was doing it for everyone. Adding charges by fleeing and putting more stress on Suze was something he heavily overlooked. What a selfish fool he had been. Yes, of course, he still wanted to slip away. He still held out hope in Bernard's office, but reality was quick to remind him that wasn't going to happen. Not unless he was fine in tearing the family apart more, to which he wasn't.
'Rennick got a letter from the mainland. The police had contacted him, and I don't blame you for telling them where I am-'
'I didn't.'
The pair frowned and shared a confused look.
'What?'
'I never told the police anything, Caz.'
'But then how did they...'
'I did it,' came the small voice of Maidie. The pair, with surprised eyes, turned to see the young girl coming out of her hiding spot. She'd been standing behind one of the fence poles surrounded by dead bushes, listening to everything. She didn't understand the big words and deep topics, but it was enough to make her confess.
'Maidie?'
Her face was beat red from her silent sobs. For weeks, she'd been holding in the guilt, putting on a brave face, but now she finally started to crack. Maidie mumbled her words and gripped the bottom of her coat, unsure with what to do with herself.
'They-They said if I told them where you were, then they'd bring you home. I'm so sorry, Daddy. I don't want you to go to jail!' Now she sobbed. Maidie's screams and cries could be heard across the Highlands. Without a second thought, Caz swept her into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck and continued to sob into his shoulder. 'Don't hate me, Daddy! I'm sorry! I'M SORRY!'
'Ssshh...Ssshh...' Caz began to bounce and stroke her hair. 'It's okay, Mads. It's okay. What you did was very brave.' The girl didn't respond for a moment and continued to cry.
'You won't go to jail, will ye?'
'Ssshh... Don't think about it. I'm sorry you heard anything. How about we get Uncle Roy to make you a hot chocolate, eh?' She nodded. 'Good girl.'
Caz and Suze shared another look. He wasn't going to lie to Maidie. Not after all he's put them through. Of course, he was going to jail. Brodie and the others might put in a good word for him, but was that enough? Caz always doubted that, despite how grateful he was. He adjusted the weight of Maidie to rest on one of his arms, and he held his hand out for Suze. She accepted, and together, the three began to make their way back. They could feel the cloud getting smaller above their heads. It wasn't gone yet it no longer bothered them with its suffocating presence. Was that a good thing? Were Caz and Suze on the mend now?
'New Year,' Caz told himself. 'I just want to be with them until after New Year.' Three days, he was going to enjoy with his loved ones and friends. However, under the kind face he held for his wife and daughter, a rage boiled. How dare the police pressure and manipulate his daughter like that, and make her miserable. How Maidie was able to carry this guilt for weeks was beyond him and something he had to commend.
As for Suze, her own guilt was overwhelming. She had been so wrapped up in her anger towards Caz that she didn't even notice how much Maidie was suffering in silence. Questions and thoughts raced through her mind. Ranging from how terrible of a mother she must be, to wondering why Maidie didn't say anything. Her thoughts began to reflect on her face, with wide eyes and a chewed lower-lip. Caz lightly squeezed her hand, snapping Suze back into reality. She glanced to her husband. Caz didn't say anything, but the look on his face said it all.
'Don't worry. We can figure it out later.'
A small nod from Suze in return. She moved closer and rested her head against his, with a small smile on her face.
The first thing Caz noticed when they got back was Rennick using a tendril to hang up the phone inside the corridor. He didn't look happy. There was that tired look in his eyes. He must have heard the snow crunching under their feet because he quickly put on a stoic face.
'Still not answering?' Caz called.
'Not yet.'
'Give it time. I'm sure he will.'
Rennick turned to leave with a huff, stopped to pause, and then looked back. 'Thanks.' It was genuine. Caz didn't react, but he heard as his little family went to find Roy and the others.
Rennick went to leave again, until the sight of someone approaching from the drive behind the McLeary's caught his attention. An older woman with greying, short blonde hair, wearing a thick brown coat and dressed appropriately for the heavy snow compared to everyone else. She tried not to be shocked at the sight of Rennick, who in turn tried not to show disappointment. They knew each other.
'Rennick.'
'Mary.'
'Where's Dónal?'

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 12: ~
Operation Spy Part 1:
Here we go. The moment we've all been waiting for. The rescue. How will it go? Knowing this lot...
Part 13:
Step 1. Grab the yellow paint and mark the infected containers.
Step 2. Load the infected inside.
Step 3. Get back to the mainland.
Step 4. ...
Well, we'll see what happens afterwards.
Brodie and Roper waited at the Under Rig. They watched the horizon. An outline of a cargo ship came into view. It was a strange feeling. They were all so relieved because this was it - they were going home - but how can you just walk away from this? Easy. You don't.
The pair had to count their lucky stars. They weren't dead like Gregor or turned into something no one thought possible like Rennick. They can still have a normal life. Until then, they just had to go through an investigation, followed by a debriefing and possible firing from Cadal to cover their own arse. It's not like anyone here would care. If Cadal was thinking about sending anyone here to another rig, then they had another thing coming.
'So, what's your plan, Roper?'
'I think I'm going to take myself and the misses on that long needed holiday to Spain. What about you?'
'Take myself and Raffs back to Skye and...'Brodie shrugged. 'I dunno. Rethink my life choices.'
Roper wasn't daft. He was basically the crew's therapist when he wasn't manning Marine Control, and he knew something was bothering Brodie. Which was an oddity in and of itself because nothing bothered him. He was a father figure to most of the younger lads here, especially Raffs. Brodie's known him since he was a child. Roper's eyes lingered towards Brodie's crossed arms. His hands gripped to the sleeves as if he were hanging onto them for dear life. His breathing was laboured, which he'd just pass off as the cold.
'Don't blame yourself,' Roper said. Brodie's shoulders and jaw tensed. 'Raffs is fine. You're fine.'
'I know.' Brodie spoke through gritted teeth. 'But, I shouldn't have let him go down there.'
'He wasn't infected.'
'The lad wasn't ready.'
'Yes, he was, Brods. If none of this happened, he'd be going head first back into that diving bell. Give him time. He'll tell you what he wants.'
Of course, Roper was right, and with a supportive pat on the shoulder, he made his way to the Deck for an update. Brodie continued to watch the cargo ship come into view and took a deep breath to help himself relax.
'He's right.' Raffs' voice broke Brodie out of his spell. The pair had failed to notice that the young man was just around the corner. He approached and leaned against the railing. He seemed happier today. More relaxed. His wide eyes were calm, and his hands weren't shaking. 'I mean - Yeah, I was terrified, but I knew I was safe. Plus, I did hit my head in there. Of course, I'm going to be shak-'
Brodie didn't let Raffs finish his sentence. He just grabbed the young man he saw as his son and held him close. Raffs knew what this was. He's felt this crushing hug before, where Brodie kept him close and refused to let go. The last time he felt it was when Raffs nearly fell down the stairs carrying one side of a dresser. You couldn't fight it either. Any second now...
'I'm sorry.'
There it is.
Raffs returned the hug, though he could never have the strength of Brodie. 'I'm fine,' he said with reassurance whilst he pulled away. 'Just needed to wrap my head around all this.' Brodie's heard that excuse before, but he'll take his word for it. As long as he was okay.
The same couldn't be said for Muir.
Anxiety suddenly gripped him, and the heartbeats he could hear weren't helping. If this was his power from The Shape, then it was frankly shit. The excitement from everyone made him uneasy. There was no warning. The anxiety just came knocking on the door before kicking it down. Muir's mind began to race with ridiculous possibilities. What if the ship sank? What if the police are waiting for Caz to just shoot him? What if The Shape isn't really dead and it'll follow them to the mainland? What if he's taken away and he never gets to see Innes again?
Muir held his breath with a thousand yard stare. No one seemed to notice. Not even Innes, who came into the container with a backpack he left for his partner. All of Muir's eyes turned to him, yet his head stayed seated in the same position.
'Alright. That's all of your stuff.' Like everyone else, Innes was happy. 'Yes. I brought the bloody harmonica before you ask. But don't go playing it until we get ye home.' Muir didn't answer and continued to stare. His mind wouldn't shut up. Everyone's heartbeats drowned out whatever Innes said. It was an echo for him. Everything began to blur. Not because The Shape had suddenly returned, but because he was crying. Muir could finally allow himself to breathe again. Innes looked, and his smile dropped. 'Muir?' He felt a tendril wrap around his hand, and he instinctively began to stroke it with his thumb.
'Please don't go.'
Innes frowned. 'I'm not going anywhere.'
'Stay in here with me.' A pause. 'What if this doesn't work? And what if I'm taken away, never to be seen again?'
'I think that's impossible.'
'Innes, please!' Muir snapped as he began to tighten his grip on Innes and shook his head, because he couldn't run a hand through his hair anymore. 'I don't want to be on my own.'
Innes moved towards him and wiped Muir's tears away. Muir hugged and pulled him closer for him to rest his head on his shoulders. Of course, Innes allowed it and, in return, gave Muir a kiss. 'Alright... Alright, Muir. I'll stay, but we have to be quiet.' Muir nodded before buring his head into Innes.
The pair were so worked up in themselves that they didn't notice Gibbo, Trots, and Roy watching. None of them were surprised. They all suspected something for a while. I'm glad to see they had their confirmation.
Roy often wondered what that felt like. To love someone so near and dear in that way. He's loved friends and family, but nothing you could conclude to be romantic. His only real love outside of that would be football and cooking. He caught on that the three were just staring at this point and gave Gibbo and Trots a small tap.
'Right, you two, get in.'
With their belongings tucked away in the corner, Gibbo, being bigger of the pair, went first and soon settled by using his bag as a pillow. Trots soon followed and didn't exactly know what to do with himself. He had this coat pocket, but it was just awkward for him. Like Rennick, he felt like a rescue horse being led to a stable.
'Hope you don't mind me sharing with you, Gibs.'
'As long as there's no Cadal this or Cadal that.'
'Oh no, this has made it worse,' Roy laughed. 'But hey, if he gets bored, Animal Farm is in his bag.' It wasn't. Trots knew it wasn't. The comment got Gibbo laughing. Trots just smirked before using the tendrils to make himself taller before giving Roy a quick shove on the shoulder with a chuff.
'Off with ya, ya prick.'
'Seya on the other side, lads.'
Of course, the men weren't in complete darkness. Along with the sun coming through at the bottom of the door, Caz and Finlay made some adjustments to the containers, other than paint. A few holes for the natural light. No one thought about possible rain, though.
'Are you really going to use your infection to get a Union?' Gibbo asked out of curiosity.
'Of course,' Trots said. 'How can they say 'no' to this?'
'Ah Christ.' Maybe Gibbo should have taken Rennick as his container-mate. He made his stance known by grabbing Trot's bag and holding it over his head like a pillow trying to block out the noise.
'Right, you two Roasters,' Finlay said in her usual tone that commanded your attention. She was never scared to use it towards Rennick and Addair before, and them being infected didn't change that. The pair awkwardly stood in their own shared container. 'I better not hear a peep out of either of you.'
'I want off this rig, Finlay,' Rennick said in that tone when you're about to get an earful. 'Why the fuck, do you think I'm gonna be loud?!'
'Because you always have to get the last word.'
'Then give me my own container.'
'No. We take you in pairs. Muir's too big for anyone else.' Except Trots, but wanted to be with Gibbo. 'Now keep ye' voices down, or I'll come in there and ring both of ya necks.'
Was Rennick scared of Finaly? No. Was Addair scared of Finlay? Also, no. But, the pair had to admire her attitude, even if they didn't like being spoken to like this. She always carried herself with authority and had bigger balls than most of the men here. Even if she couldn't swim.
'Hey Finlay?' Addair called as she began to close the door. Finlay stopped and listened. 'Why did the military say no to you?'
'Because they don't take women. Is that why they refused you, Addair?'
With that, the door shut, and Finlay could finally feel her blood pressure return to normal. Faint snickering from Rennick could be heard through the metal, followed by a small smack. She spotted Roper and gave a thumbs up, who gave one in return.
Within minutes, the cargo ship docked beside them, and a man stepped off and onto the walkway that connected to the rig. Thankfully, the sea was calm this afternoon. Roper went to greet him.
'Are you Rennick?' He asked.
'No,' Roper said. 'We did a headcount. We lost him.'
'Didn't take a lifeboat?'
'Considering none of them worked, the answer's no.'
The man noticed the exhausted look in Roper's eyes. He was putting it on just so they could leave faster. They then noticed the amount of holes and smashed windows were on Beria. And this was only one part. Their eyes went wide and confused as they scanned the rig before looking to Roper for answers, who exchanged a look that said, 'I know.'
Nothing else needed to be said. The man gave a nod of approval. 'Oh, and we still have some equipment that Cadal will want back.'
'Will they?'
'Do you want to pay for anything we lose?' Seems Caz's sarcasm had finally rubbed off on Roper.
'Fair enough.' He turned and called to his crew. 'Get the crane going!'
And breathe.
Soon, the crew of Beria were safely secured on the cargo. The infected were all sat next to each other, but the equipment sat on top. So much for the holes to give them sunlight. Maybe they could see in the dark?
Caz found himself watching the containers from the safety of Bridge. He couldn't feel their presence from this distance, and it left him on edge. He hoped they were okay. Yes, even Rennick and Addair. He turned and, along with the others, watched the Beria slowly disappear from view.
'Good riddance.'

Have you ever thought of HCs for the minor characters in SWTD?
I have less solid stuff and more like. vibes for a few of them. but yeah! I have a few. If you have specific characters you want to hear about I can search through the vibes and get a bunch! for now you get a handful of ones about some of my guys. These can either be plausible in canon or really not but idc im gonna be silly anyway! <33
Archie:
Overthinker!! Really bad anxiety issues, he leaned a lot on his family back home for help. Mind you, not his biological family, he grew up in a foster home and they´ve been his family since! He was second oldest of two brothers and one sister, and he´d do just about anything for them.
He misses them a whole lot, but he´s got his friends on the rig, who act like a second family! Notable relationships are Caz, Kelly, and Banky.
Missing one of his incisors! It was an accident when he was super little, but yeah, he´s got that missing tooth grin.
Kelly:
He´s a wily little man! One of the younger men on the rig and kinda like a frat boy, in a way. He´s pretty crafty, and has a lot of big ambitions, but he does struggle a bit because everything is constantly shifting with him. Nothing feels certain, especially at this time in his life, with divorce of his parents and the possibility of losing connection with his (much) younger sister, Cat. He wants to get custody of her, because his father moves around a lot for work and his mother is a bit of a deadbeat, but he´s got a lot else going on and he´s struggling to figure it all out.
Still, he´s a very lively man and very good friend. He, Douglas, Dobbie, and Gregor all have a bit of a special bond. They´re a very tight-knit group.
Douglas:
He´s just a skrunkly guy. A very hard-working, determined man who can be a little awkward but endearing all the same. He´s one of the people on the rig who tends to look after everyone, take all their concerns and bring them to Trots, or Rennick.
He´s a pretty big dreamer and has an idealistic way of looking at things. He is pretty open and friendly, but he still keeps his secrets. For example, there´s a girl back on the mainland that he´s been in love with for a long, long time. She has, too. He seeks to impress her, and eagerly awaits Christmas so he can return. He would go sooner, but he lives alone and wasn´t exactly thriving, so he needs the money. That´s fine! He´ll get paid and then go see her, he´s got all the time in the world, right?
Loudon(unnamed corpse </33):
He´s an older man, and a sad one, at that. He tends to go it alone more often than not. Works alone, eats alone, sleeps alone. He´s generally pleasant with people, and he hangs out, but he is quieter and more introspective.
He did not want to go on this rig, but he had to. There is a woman he met and loved, and who´s promised to wait for him. However long it takes. He thought about her often, wondered where she was now, and if she would wait. It consumed him, a little bit, and he fantasized about seeing her again.
His parents did not like their relationship. Because they suck.
#still wakes the deep#you get the whole range of minor characters!#Dialogue and few appearances to absolutely nothing but a name on the shift paper!#archie swtd#Kelly swtd#Douglas swtd#Loudon swtd

reposting because I added my thoughts!! <3
