swtd headcannons!!

Caz is a complete emotional drunk. Suze once even found him hugging a cabinet, swearing he wouldn’t leave it alone ever again.

Roy always used to bake with his aunt when he was little. The baking turned gears to cooking after Roy’s diabetes diagnosis.

Finlays son is in his late 20’s/early 30’s, and is in the Air Force.

Rennick actually has 3 grandchildren.

Caz used to run track (mostly hurdles) in school before he went to boxing, hence why he’s so fast, and can vault/jump over things with ease.

(May not be a headcannon) Raffs is an apprentice under Brodie supervision.

In the beginning of Raffs apprenticeship, he actually didn’t trust Brodie a lot, leading to Brodie promising he’d look after him.

The crew (besides Trots, McLurg, and Rennick) has all secretly created a Addair hate club. Surprisingly (maybe not), Sunil is the original creator of the club.

Muir really enjoys the beach, and tends to walk around finding shells, and ironically, hermit crabs.

O’Connor is a cat guy, and has 2 tuxedo cats back on the mainland he named Houdini and Shela.

Bruce loves sharks. He doesn’t really tell anyone else or else he will yap their ear off.

Finlay avoids the smell of onions like the black plague. She’ll only tolerate the smell if they are cooked in any way to minimize the stench.

Alex answers almost any question about his action with “your mom” when he’s with Sunil

Sunils mother died when he was 3 from a lung infection he has yet to know what caused it in the first place.

Innes tried to dye his hair red with a drink mix he found, accidentally staining his hands and forehead red for at least a week.

During said week- Muir refused to hold were Innes held, as it felt oddly sticky because of the juice packet.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY

basically they drill like normal and head back to the mainland only to find everything is shit and theres ghoulies. oh no

brodie/raffs stick together 24/7. brodie does not allow raffs to go on scouting/scavenging missions without him, raffs doesnt wanna go on those missions At All. But alas

Innes and Muir are. Having suchh a time. theyre both also always together because nobody wants to seperate them (they both have one half of a brain cell and dont function without eachother) and theyre just “DUDE DID YOU SEE THAT” “SEE WHAT” 24/7

trots is in charge of organizing the missions bc nobody trusts rennick and addair to not send the people they dont like (caz) to die. Trots accidentally keeps sending gibbo on every other mission

finlay is the first person to kill a zombie. She picks up a big hunk of Pipe and starts bashing bitches. She then replaces it with a bat she wraps in barbed wire. She’s great. Also gives herself a lil buzz and will not beat the butch allegations about it

Addair is having the worst time because Nobody likes him and he fears they will just leave him to die about that. They wont but he has very low standards for them so. Also everytime he gets upset he “leaves” for 5 minutes and then runs back in and goes “IM JUST AN OLD MAAANN DONT LEAVE ME TO DIE PLEASE” nobody is amused

Rennick is constantly upset about no longer being In Charge and Roper likes bothering him about it. Rennick keeps going “well I THINK—“ and roper goes “who? Asked you”

Alex, Sunil and Davros are on the night watch since its safer than going on missions. sunil is terrified and alex and davros are nonchalant as hell. Also nobody is Actually watching (which spells disaster)

Caz and Roy both have lots of braincells but get nothing done together. They cancel eachother out. Sorry.

Caz makes sure they raid a bunch of hospitals for insulin and threatens anyone who suggests leaving roy behind <3 and roy rations/makes the food obviously

Scooby and Caz are also A Duo to me. Scooby and Caz were both into zombie rpgs/shooters when they were younger and they are not taking this apocalypse as seriously as they should about it

Fulfilled promises

Caz, who wasn't loved by the boss, never went down to the sea, worked as a electrician, was also in love with an old family friend and godfather of his daughters, Roy.

Dismissal is like a storm for Caz without warning. And he never had time to admit his sympathy for Roy. Somehow, there was no suitable occasion— The police, letters from his wife, ex-wife, or problems with custody of children constantly interfered.

But everything goes awry even more, as if one twist of fate wasn't enough.

Caz survives thanks to their miracle swimmers, Brodie and Douglas.

All around, human screams, the roar of the station, the noise of wind and waves - everything forms a painful mess of sounds. Caz is scared like it has never been before.

Having reached Roy, Caz finally feels calm and safe in the barricaded kitchen combined with a pantry.

During a trip to the boats, Caz finds insulin in a medical kit. Therefore, he returns soaked to the skin, with new abrasions and with new gray hair on his temples after meeting with former colleagues, but happy as a thousand devils.

Caz is almost falling off his feet from fatigue at the tiny stove, gobbling up the stocks of ready-made food of his favorite cook for both cheeks, starving on nerves. Roy laughs at him warmly, like in the good old days, before all the shit, hugs him from behind, at least trying to keep the warmth between them.

That should be enough for a while.

So Caz promises to return for Roy and climbs out of a safe place to clear the way since "the shape" is afraid of fire.

When Caz returns, he takes Roy to the roof, where it is safest, leaves him a bunch of insulin, and gathers for a final push.

Roy asks Caz to promise to come back for him, to survive, because Suze is waiting for them. Caz cuts off this argument. No one has been waiting for him at home for a long time. At the moment, Caz confesses his feelings and asks Roy to promise to survive.

There are four of them left, Caz almost dies again, but he seems to be kept alive by a promise made to Roy.

Caz takes Roy off the roof, thinking for a moment in the uneven light that he is dead, but he only fell asleep, floating in hallucinations. Roy is as fine as possible.

At the same time, Finlay is going crazy with grief, and Brodie is dying right over the phone line. Finlay is pinned down by the wreckage of the bridge, and Caz takes the lighter from her cold hands.

The only one Caz has left is Roy. Caz has a kaleidoscope of questions in his head about what they should do next, to which there are no answers. This state of loneliness among the decisions made, guilt, and responsibility is interrupted by Roy's desperate, bitter kiss.

We ask for maximum hurt/comfort for the two of them, in contrast to the canonical cruelty.

We approve of any ending. You can make a tragic ending where Roy and Caz sacrifice themselves by burning this place to the ground. You can leave the ending open by stopping the narrative at any point. You can make a happy ending, where either the military and help arrive for them, or make a timeskip when everything is already fine with them, only ptsd and nightmares haunt them, but they cope with this together, supporting each other.

Thanks to @saintalondre for discussing the game and the McLeary ghost concept that inspired me. And also thanks to my husband @volatile95 for being there 🤲❤️

So, what if there really was an earthquake at the station at the beginning of the game. Caz and Gregor fell into the water, and if Gregor managed to be pulled out and pumped out, then McLeary didn't. An accident at work, it's no longer possible to hide it, and Rennik's career is coming to an end. But the most heartbreaking moment is that Roy promised to look after Caz, promised that everything would be fine, and a lot of guilt falls on him at the moment of realization.

Caz, becoming a ghost, follows Roy, who took a family photo from his body. Roy, left alone, gets drunk, blames himself out loud, smoking a pack of cigarettes. Caz is angry at the hopelessness, angry at Rennik, angry at himself and hits the door hard, knowing that his hands will go through it anyway, but it slams shut with a deafening bang. Caz turns to Roy, beaming with delight and still burning with anger, hoping that Roy can see him, but he just shakes his head, mentioning wind, and picks up the dropped lighter.

Caz follows Roy down to dry land, sees his body in a coffin and attends his own funeral, hugging his family. Billy the asshole comes to the funeral to report the withdrawn charges, as if without this piece of paper it's could still be valid. The asshole leaves his number and tries to hit on his wife at his damn funeral. Susan slaps Billy in the face, Roy pushes him in the chest, and Caz hits him under the knees, dropping the asshole on the wet, loose ground. He retreats like a cowardly rat, threatening again and tucking the rat's tail between his legs, but this time the witnesses aren't on his side.

Caz tries to participate in the upbringing of his daughters, when Roy comes to visit Suzy, even if no one sees or hears him, he still looks out for his family. Caz stops his daughters from falling down the stairs more than once, doesn't let them get burned with hot tea, blowing his icy breath into a mug, doesn't let Suzy leave the stove on, diverts Roy's attention from alcohol, with the scalding cold of touching the cross on his neck, reminding him of the heavenly old man.

After a few years, Caz feels it's time for him to leave, and Roy himself realizes this by taking a photo out of his inner pocket. The fireplace flame lazily licks the edges of the folded paper, and for the first time in many, many years, Caz feels a pleasant, burning warmth instead of the grave cold. Cameron McLeary burns up with the photo, his soul, being free, finally leaves Limbo.

Hey, hi, you mentioned Caz is immune right? The only way to know that is with him getting bitten at some point, right? Like depending on how fast the incubation period is for this particular type of brain chomper, he’s either flipping out and trying to get away from everyone or smt so he doesn’t eat them, and realizes that he should’ve turned by then, or they didn’t have the heart to kill him and, and they let him leave and he comes back later like yo I’ve got the craziest story.

Also, what if he was could still infect others, like if he bites them or smt? He’s asymptomatic but what if he’s still very much a carrier? And somebody (cough cough ugh Billy cough sniffle) has to find this out the very, very hard way.

Sry for the rant I just love this au with an undying passion.

the thing that really gets me about still wakes the deep and caz as a protag is like. he is so steady. he reminds me a lot of corvo attano from the dishonored series in that he just does what is asked of him. oh he complains and he bitches at brodie about not wanting to go back out there but he still does.

you could be fooled into thinking that he's not scared at all...until roy's death. he finds roy in the hut on the roof and the way he just absolutely shatters is utterly heartrending. not only has he seen so many others die - or, worse, become something so utterly Other and yet still also so very human - but now his best friend, the one who got him on that boat, is dead.

as someone with diabetes, the thought of dying to diabetic ketoacidosis is terrifying but...perhaps when you think about it, roy's death was the easiest, although i know that he had to have been scared and confused, knowing how DKA works. but he simply went to sleep. and in a way, i think that caz was very lucky that he didn't have to hear roy as one of the entities. i'm not sure what it would have done to roy but i can sure imagine what it would have done to caz had caz been forced to hear it.

Hits you with another ask (please don't be afraid to tell me if I'm being overbearing I get anxiety about this take your timeee) nothin about weber here this time but uhhh Rennick pre-infection in your soggy AU having to listen to the soggy versions of the people on the Beira, dead or alive, cheerfully and sarcastically mock and berate him for getting them into this mess (I'm imagining the vibes of that one uhh, "HEY, BOSS." moment from mouthwashing btw-) I'm thinkin' mainly Caz and Gregor (Gregor dying first and Caz having nearly followed suit) but as time progresses more and more of these soggy dudes just show up to insult this old wrinkly man and it doesn't stop until they're in the chopper and he thinks "Oh good, I got away from it. I knew it was my mind playing tricks on me!" little does he know it's cause of the infection and his forehead's about to turn into a sixhead (I like to imagine he turned IN the helicopter and that's why it crashed)

you said Caz and Gregor, and I completely forgot to hit Gregor in rip </3 but we do have Roy! Cause I think they’re friends.

Also they’re more just mocking him here. I like cheerfully berating him, so maybe I’ll do more doodles later!
