I don't understand the need for CR in this episode. Almost everything she did, Danny could have done it. Danno was relegated to the "be handsome & shut up" role.
She made a rookie mistake in creating the loop. How did she missed the guy walking into the elevator?
I cannot help but think CR killed Greer because she was about to say something she didn't want Steve to know.
Greer had the potential to be such an interesting antagonist for the team. And maybe a better final for the show than what we got.
Also, Alex had more chemistry with Rochelle Aytes than he ever did with MB.

Rewatched 7x07 last night and Steve’s quote here still bugs me.
In an episode that (heavily) features the two most important women in his life, this is how he feels. I think that’s very significant and it says a lot about the trauma he’s suffered as a result of their behavior.
Nonetheless, he still does what is expected of him, risking inprisonment and torture. Let’s not forget that if his team (which he hadn’t alerted in the first place) hadn’t had his back he would’ve been waterboarded again.
Those two women — one more than the other, have defined who he is. No wonder he has trust/abandonment issues and can’t settle or keep a relationship...

Five-0 Redux: Seeking retribution a painful task for McGarrett, team
By Wendie Burbridge, Special to the Star-Advertiser January 5, 2019 Updated January 5, 2019 12:56pm
Usually, after someone has experienced the death of a loved one, people tend to go through the proverbial stages of grief — denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. They may skip a step, linger on one for a long time, and sometimes add a few extra stages of their own. More often than not, anger tends to stick around the longest and sometimes it is what fuels the rest of the steps into action. In this week’s episode of “Hawaii Five-0,” McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) is dealing with the loss of his father figure Joe White (Terry O’Quinn) and going through his own version of the stages of grief.
Written by Matt Wheeler and David Wolkove, this week’s episode was a wrap-up of the fall finale, “Pio ke Kukui, Po‘ele ka Hale” (“When the Light Goes Out, the House Is Dark”), in which Joe and four other members of their former SEAL team, were targeted and killed. The episode starts with Danny (Scott Caan) traveling to Montana where McGarrett has been holed up for a month with Catherine (Michelle Borth), who has come to help him devise a plan to avenge Joe’s death. Directed by the legendary Carl Weathers, who also guest-starred on “Magnum P.I.” in the second episode of the show’s freshman season, a very angry McGarrett basically tosses out the other stages of grief and has added one of his own — retribution. Perhaps seeking to avenge the death of Joe and his SEAL brothers can be seen as a type of acceptance, which is supposed to be the last stage of the grieving process.
The title of this episode, “Hala i ka ala hoʻi ʻole mai” (the Hawaiian phrase is misspelled in the CBS press release), means, “gone on the road from which there is no returning.” It is a olelo noeau, or Hawaiian proverb and poetical saying, and to Hawaiians, the saying is a metaphor that simply means, “death.” In both the main plotline (McGarrett’s plan to avenge Joe) and in the case of the week (a silly story about bones being found in a public storage space) every guilty party faces that road. For “Hawaii Five-0” the title also seems to imply the idea that once a person heads down a certain path — like murder or vengeance for instance — there is no turning back.
JAMES BOND, A GENTLEMAN AND AN OLD FLAME
Once Danny arrives in Montana and finds McGarrett a bit hardened and in combat mode, he inquires how his friend has been doing since Joe died. When McGarrett says he didn’t have to come, Danny tells him that is what family does — they are there for each other. When he sees Catherine, he seems happy that she seems to be helping McGarrett through his grieving process.
But McGarrett tells him that it is not what Danny thinks, it’s not what any of us thought really. They are not playing house. They have been busy forcibly extracting information from Omar Hassan’s (Ben Youcef) lawyer, Gregers Thomsen (Andrew Grant), who set up the hit squad who came for Joe and McGarrett. Catherine might be McGarrett’s old flame, but she certainly has used her CIA ties to help him. She seems to be able to stomach the force McGarrett has to use to persuade Gregers to give up Hassan’s location. It’s bloody and brutal, and a bit out of the ordinary for Five-0.
But this is not a Five-0 op as McGarrett makes it clear to Danny, and they are not going to be alone. Perhaps he knows this will be more brutal, more dangerous than anything they have done before. He seems to want to protect Danny — not because Danny can’t hold his own in this fight — but because McGarrett has already lost so much, and to lose Danny would probably push him over the edge.
So it makes sense that McGarrett called in other backup. Sure, he knows Danny will come and support him like his SEAL brothers, Junior (Beulah Koale) and Wade Gutches, played by recurring cast member David Keith of “The Officer and Gentleman” fame. But maybe in the back of McGarrett’s mind, he doesn’t want to take that chance. He just lost a father — he doesn’t want to lose a brother.
Junior and Gutch join McGarrett, Catherine and Danny in Montana and they take off with Lucia Bama (Kristen Dalton), daughter of Frank Bama, for Vientiane, Laos, where Omar is hiding. They meet up with their former British intelligence friend Harry Langford (played by recurring cast member Chris Vance), who does some excellent reconnaissance for the team. Before we can say “007,” McGarrett is in a tux, Catherine in an evening gown, and armed with matching wedding bands as their cover, they are headed for a baccarat table. They are tasked to get Omar’s money launderer Dimitri (Theo Coumbis) to drink some sort of radioactive concoction so they can follow him from the Vientiane casino undetected. They know he will take the laundered money back to Omar and the team can then execute the rest of their plan.
RETRIBUTION OR REVENGE
This week’s episode really is a part two, as similar themes spillover from the fall finale. The hit men who came for McGarrett and Joe’s SEAL team were sent to avenge the death of Omar’s father, a high-value target the team killed in Morocco in 2002. Omar as a young boy confronted the SEAL team before their extraction and Joe disarmed him and basically saved his life. But Omar grew up and used his wealth and power to exact revenge on the team for his father’s death.
In a sense, McGarrett is doing the same thing — only he does’t want to kill Omar, he wants to actually find former CIA agent Greer (Rochelle Aytes), who sold their names and locations to Omar. Besides himself, Greer is really who he blames for Joe’s death. McGarrett and Omar may want the same thing — retribution, revenge, whatever you want to call it — but McGarrett wants it in answers rather than dead bodies. He wants to know why Greer betrayed her country and then turned on her former lover, McGarrett, and sought to torture him, kill his friends, his mentor and then end his life.
JUST DESSERTS
Yes, it does seem as if they are planning to assassinate Omar for killing Joe. McGarrett even asks Gutch if he’s going to be alright with basically running a rogue mission. Gutch says it’s worth it if they can put the man who killed Joe in the ground. And they do find Omar, raid his luxury digs and confront him. McGarrett tells him his revenge plan failed — as he killed everyone on the team except the one who actually shot his father. McGarrett was the shooter, and Omar tells McGarrett to shoot him because he will not stop until McGarrett is dead. But McGarrett won’t kill him in front of his son and let the boy “relive the same cycle all over again.”
Instead, he wants to know where Greer is. It is really all he wanted in the first place. They find her hiding out in China, and when McGarrett and Catherine confront her — he asks Greer what amount of money would make selling out human lives worth it. She says there were other factors, and the look in her face makes us think that perhaps it is because she could not have McGarrett that made her turn.
All during Greer’s storyline, we saw little flashbacks to when she and McGarrett first met. She was the girl before Catherine, but after Morocco, and after McGarrett almost died in Afghanistan, he decided it was Catherine he wanted to start a relationship with — not Greer. It seemed that Greer took that personally, and when McGarrett remembered a pillow-talk conversation they had before the mission to assassinate Hassan went down in Morocco, they had made plans to be near each other and perhaps continue their relationship. But once the Morocco mission went sour, that plan never came to fruition.
Perhaps Greer pined away for McGarrett, and when she learned he was seeing Catherine, she decided there was nothing left except her drive for power and money. So it seemed a little ironic that when Greer pulls a gun on McGarrett — it is Catherine who takes her out.
ONE LAST NOD TO JOE
When the team returns to Montana, and they say goodbye to Gutch and Catherine, Gutch — like Joe — tells McGarrett to find a good woman, a boring hobby and retire. McGarrett tells Gutch he is going to think about it, but Gutch tells him he knows he won’t. He also tells McGarrett that Joe would be really proud of him and that he is too. It’s a sweet moment, perhaps there are a few more father figures in McGarrett’s life for him to look up to.
Before McGarrett says aloha to Catherine, she says they both owe Joe a lot. He tells her it is Joe who brought her into his life. It is why he took the plunge and asked her out. It was Joe who told him that Catherine was a keeper and that McGarrett should take the leap. Catherine and McGarrett both seem grateful to their friend for their relationship.
While they are no longer together at least they were brave enough to take that road that led them to each other. And they have one more thing to be grateful to Joe for, even if he has gone on the road from which there is no returning.

H50 9.11 – 'Hala i ke ala o'i'ole mai'
Part 1 – The Hug between Steve and Danny
The reason why I look at an episode the kind way is that I'm never unprepared. Yes, there are of course moments, situations that suck and the way the plot is unfolding is not always the way I wished it to happen. But that's all I get. That's the show – let's say I know my opponent after over eight years (producer, director, writers…). I know what I'm going to get, no surprises there.
There's no reason for me to fight that because the only thing that would break would be my heart. I try to deal with it because Hawaii Five-0 is my happy place. I'll try to explain here why I loved and enjoyed this episode and why I’ve really liked it a lot and why it shook me, made me cry, let me muse over scenes and tiny, important moments and all the unsaid words between the short sentences.
There's also the other side. I know the writers have their ideas and they always put a meaning behind situations. I try to look past my McDanno wishes, past my own version of Five-0. I've engaged in this version the writers have chosen for this episode. I truly believe that there's always a deeper meaning behind actions, situations and why they are handled the way we watch it on the show. I also believe that the writers care for the characters and their actions. I really believe that, and I try to understand the meaning they've put in there.
So, let's have a closer look.
Steve's and Danny's meeting in the very beginning was way different than I've expected. At first, of course, I was disappointed, and I've thought – c'mon guys! That's all you give us? This lousy hug between my guys? That's some big heartless shit you let me see there! BUT ohmygod – there's a reason why the hug felt cold, distant and unreal. And Danny sensed that immediately. Steve pushed him away, non-verbally, but with all the power he could muster to make Danny keep a certain distance.
Because... this hug? This was in no way a Steve hug.
We all know how Steve hugs – especially Danny: It's totally emotional and his whole body is involved. It's encompassing, engrossing with his emotions. Steve likes to tug Danny to his chest; wrap him up in his body, one hand always goes up and sneaks towards the nape of Danny's neck. Steve often props his chin on Danny's shoulder and he normally closes his eyes. Both his long arms are tightly looped around Danny as if he never wanted to let go again.
Steve would have definitely closed his eyes with this hug in Montana because Danny would have turned this one in a special, important, meaningful hug. But Steve didn't let him! He couldn't, and he didn't want Danny to hug him with all the emotions that would have been there.
Danny knew the moment he got out of the car that things have changed. Steve's in Montana for over four weeks now. Danny came all the way to see Steve because apparently, Steve didn't have any intention to return home and somehow, he hadn't been in no mood to tell Danny what his plans were. Danny asks him if it wasn't time to go home. It's been four weeks now. There's a worry in Danny's voice. He's testing the waters and his face shows everything. He has no chance to get closer to Steve. Steve has shut him out. And it hurts Danny, but he can't do a thing about it. He only can accept what's happening and roll with it. There are some lingering touches of Danny's hands, briefly but the contact is there as if he hopes that Steve might cave, might want to be closer. Steve doesn't. Steve actually feels uncomfortable when he hugs Danny. That's a first.
Tumblr media
Watch Steve, take a real good look at him. He's dirty, a stained tee shirt, dirt smudges (no blood) all over his arms, up to his biceps – on both arms. It seems as if he wears this shirt for days now. His face shows alert and there's this streak of being haunted. Steve looks stressed out, clinging with the teeth to reality.
Tumblr media
I look at Steve and see all these details and something big is missing – his energy field (aura) has shifted like massively. A new message wafts around him like fog. It's a huge difference compared to the time before Joe's death and this is not only because he can't deal with grief. There's something bigger that hollows Steve out, that makes the invisible tags around his neck more visible. There's a message on this tag 'I can't give a shit anymore because I'm not worth it.'
When Danny arrives there's this moment. Steve crouches down behind this big tub, his gaze close to feverish and intense, with wary eyes he watches the car. Danny gets out – and Steve literally slumps, and he even closes his eyes for a moment. He fucking folds into himself on the spot when he recognizes Danny. And I can see how Steve steels himself, hardens everything inside him to be able to face the moment. To face Danny. Steve can't stand to see Danny because it hurts so much!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The explanation for that moment and this awkward hug is given further into their mission. Steve mentions to Catherine that he's responsible for Joe's death. If he hadn't had trusted Greer and if he hadn't had a blind spot for her, he maybe would have sensed that's she's going to betray all his team and get everyone killed. This revelation Steve is having right there – Jesus fucking Christ – that meaning just chopped my heart to pieces. He believes that he's stigmatized or at least he has to make sure this doesn't happen again. Many people who Steve has trusted so far have turned against him and people have been killed because he didn’t realize that they were betraying him.
Tumblr media
Wherever he goes, whoever he meets somehow, they turn their back on him and fucking kill or hurt people he loves! Steve believes he must protect people from himself. He believes that he's not worth to be loved because it always ends badly somehow. He wants to protect Danny and that's why he shoves him away. He doesn't want Danny to get hurt, and in his grief-befogged mind, Steve's really convinced that everyone is better off without him. Of course, he loves Danny so much and of course, he would need him by his side, craves for his touch and his comfort but Steve doesn't allow himself this wish anymore. He only brings danger and death, grief and unhappiness and that's why he creates a distance, an iron wall – and this just kills me.
Whatever Steve does, whomever his loves at some point Steve meets death and it would kill him if something happens to Danny. So, the awkward, cold, distant hug at the beginning makes way more sense with this background. Steve can't stand Danny's love and his care because he is convinced that he isn't worth it. Steve wants nothing. He has nothing to give. I can't even –
Steve's also not interested in Catherine. (More to this later). He just walks by her with this bucket filled with water and with an energy of a damn executioner he walks into that room where his victim sist, tortured, bloody, beaten into a pulp of raw meat – done by Steve and Danny's understanding grows that something big shifted in Steve and that nothing can be fixed right this moment.
Tumblr media
This Steve, the hangman, the how-to-torture-a-man-trained SEAL Steve is scary. Seriously. That's some tough shit happening right here in this room. I was a bit shocked to see what the events have done to Steve's heart. Danny knows he just has to let him have his way. He knows Steve has to find Joe's murder, the one man who ordered the kill. Without this satisfaction Steve wouldn't come back from his personal hell he's living in right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 There's more – I mean…fuck this is so intense!

missjmelville hat auf deinen Eintrag geantwortet “Ok ok but have you watched the latest ep of Hawaii five-0 yet? I have...”
Haha no all good I just really wanted to bemoan the fact that it looks like they’re gearing up for Danny and Rachel to get back together again and I am so. Over. It. Ugghhh. Why they do this??
Because they genuinely can’t write a healthy relationship to save their lives. They truly, honestly can’t. It’s not even about thwarting the homogay, though I do believe that’s a big part of it. They’ve been queerbaiting their audience for so long they’re probably desperate to steer at least one of their two leads into the safe harbour of heterosexuality by the end of the show. Kinda like SGA did with Rodney back in the day.
But more than that, their core writing team is just... I want to say bad, but they’re more like on the lower end of mediocre. The rubbish pile of plot holes, dropped arcs and missed chances every now and then contains a true gem, but on the whole there’s not a gifted individual among them, especially when it comes to romantic relationships.
I mean, I could write a thousand words about Chin and Malia or Kono and Adam and how the latter relationship in particular was a mess. I could take apart the clusterfuck of Steve and Catherine. I could do a whole series of essays on Danny’s romantic history and why I would never, ever, want to get involved with a guy like him.
Instead, I’ll just point vaguely in the direction of that Valentine’s Day episode and let it speak for the rest of the show. Both Steve and Danny are so painfully bad at being boyfriends, it’s honestly almost impressive. No, really. They suck at being romantic partners. And the writers don’t seem to recognise this at all. Not even the slightest bit.
Which is why I’m not at all surprised they keep bringing Catherine and Rachel back into play as viable relationship options. Those two are established characters that don’t require any additional setup, they’re the only recurring female characters who ever got to have their own agenda outside of their relationships with the team (though significantly less so for Rachel, and I’m discounting Greer because that arc was as short as it was messy); they’re easy to write.
And since the subtlest tool in that show’s writers’ collective box is the sledge hammer, easy-to-write is usually what they go for. No matter if it’s a mess.

When you thought it couldn’t get any worse... H50 Season 9 turns into a soap. How “inventive” to bring in another mean ex GF of Steve. The guy must’ve either a bad taste in women or his bloodline might be cursed...
Hawaii Five-0 Casts Rochelle Aytes as Season 9 Baddie (and McGarrett's Ex!)
Hawaii Five-0‘s season-opening redo of the original series’ pilot will reveal a new — and now vexing — bit of McGarrett’s romantic past.
TVLine has learned that Mistresses alum Rochelle Aytes has been cast on the CBS procedural in the recurring role of Greer, a sharp, smart and calculating CIA operative who was once romantically involved with McGarrett. Now, though, Greer is described as “dangerous and not to be trusted.”
Aytes will make her debut in the Season 9 premiere (airing Friday, Sept. 28), which as a means of commemorating the franchise’s 50th anniversary will offer its own take on the original Five-O‘s two-part pilot, which was titled “Cocoon.”
“A character named Greer was introduced in that first episode, and she had a relationship with McGarrett ‘back in the day,’ when he was in uniform,” showrunner Peter M. Lenkov told TVLine as part of our in-depth Fall Preview Q&A. As portrayed by Aytes on today’s Five-0, “She’s going to be a Big Bad in the first couple of episodes.”
In addition to her run on ABC’s Mistresses, Aytes’ TV credits include Designated Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Forgotten and Drive.

youtube
The Bold Type (Freeform)
Completan el reparto Shazi Raja (High Maintenance), Rachel Drance (Reign), Dennis Boutsikaris (Better Call Saul, Billions) y Aaron Poole (Copper, Incorporated). youtube
Midnight, Texas (NBC)

Es un viaje a un remoto pueblo de Texas donde nadie es lo que parece: Midnight está lleno de brujas, vampiros, videntes y sicarios; es un refugio para los que son diferentes. youtube
