John Adams's new opera Antony and Cleopatra was given a “European premiere fuelled by molten chemistry,” exclaims the Observer’s Fiona Maddocks in a ️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review of the Gran Teatre del Liceu production, conducted by the composer and starring Gerald Finley and Julia Bullock. “In his ambitious and richly orchestrated 2022 opera, the American composer makes Shakespeare his own, with a star cast to match.” You can read it here.
Maddocks goes on to say: “The score bristles, spurts, thrums with originality … the orchestral writing dazzles. You can’t hear everything in one go: this is a substantial work … layered and subtle, yielding its riches slowly … Rewarding? Decidedly.”

𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑬 𝑾𝑨𝑺 𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑯𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑴𝑶𝑹𝑬 𝑹𝑰𝑽𝑬𝑻𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑻𝑯𝑨𝑵 𝑻𝑹𝑬𝑽𝑰𝑺𝑶 𝑶𝑷𝑬𝑹𝑨 𝑯𝑶𝑼𝑺𝑬. Gran Teatre del Liceu had stood for centuries in the middle of the grand city of Treviso, or at the very least that is what Adrienne Pentaghast believed. She had a great fondness for the city. It was a precious ruby that was the heart of Antiva.
Since joining the Lighthouse in the crusade to stop a pair of insane, elven gods, Adrienne was experiencing freedom that she hadn't before, and she would enjoy herself to the fullest before she was placed back into the gilded cage that was the Nevarran court.
Her footfalls were light as she strolled beside Lucanis Dellamorte. Her gloved hand was nestled in the crook of his arm as they entered the vestibule. Each step was purposeful and full of practiced grace. She was dressed in a stunning gown. Amber in color with a vermillion pattern that made ornate patterns at the trim of the full skirts, and the edges of the bodice. To pair with it, a verdant silk shawl to shroud around her bare shoulders. Her neck was adorned with a golden necklace which was incrusted with expensive rubies from her homeland; accompanied by a matching set of earrings and a tiara. Her perfume was subtle but distinguishable; an aroma of lavender, chamomile, and rosemary. One of Adrienne's favorite fragrances.
The Princess of Owls shifted her hazel gaze to her bodyguard and smiled.

As they made their way to the private balcony, Adrienne sighed though her smile didn't falter.
❝ 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬, 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝'𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲.❞ She went on, her ornate Orlesian fan in her opposite hand. To the untrained eye, she was just some fanciful aristocrat enjoying the nightlife that Treviso offered, only the select crows knew her true identity. It had been expensive to hire three Crows just to enjoy one night at the Opera, but it was inconsequential, she could pay it tenfold if she had the mind. Her own personal treasury was nothing to scoff at and it wasn't the first time that she hired a Crow or two to escort her places.
It was also a benefit that she knew the Demon of Vyrantium. She wanted the best of the best after all, and Lucanis was a friend, and someone she trusted. What could be better than this?
❝ 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠? 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰. ❞

Fidelio
