Crack Magazine: Crack Mix 136 - Charles Drakeford
It’s hard to write about Charles Drakeford without invoking all sorts of cliches about DJ’s DJs and scene linchpins.
Having been involved in NTS Radio since its early days, he’s been instrumental in the station’s ascension to a global institution, regularly broadcasting his much-loved From The Depths show to a devoted audience.
Since 2014, From The Depths has existed as a record label serving up a series of quirky EPs from the likes of Gramrcy, Lutto Lento and Georgia. Like Drakeford’s radio shows, FTD is a broad church, and while all of its seven releases to date have explored vastly different sonic territory, each are tied together with an exciting sense of adventure and a willingness to push the boundaries of club music.
Charles Drakeford’s Crack Mix is a typically eclectic affair that ventures from dub to techno before reaching an unexpected and absolutely gorgeous finale. Stellar stuff from one of London’s very best.

SIREN MIX 016: Katiusha
For the 16th entry into our mix series, Berlin-based DJ Katiusha takes us on a thrilling journey which expertly balances sounds light and dark, fast and slow, sharp and soft. The result is a mix which keeps you on your toes as it takes agile twists and turns, alternating between being jacking and bizarre, it transports us deep into a rave where it feels like anything could happen.
Katiusha’s style swims between a love of deep, dark sounds and the zesty attitude of the UK scene. Originally from London, now based in Berlin, she can be found playing at Griessmühle, Suicide Circus and Cashmere Radio.
She says about the mix: “I started out wanting to make something dark and techno-oriented for this mix, but ended up gravitating more towards a colourful tip instead. A few of the tracks feel like throwbacks to summer when I was enjoying airing out some weirder selections. Then there are some favourites I've been sitting on for a while, like the He-Men and RSD tracks... I also felt like it was good to start on the Peder Mannerfelt number, as I get lost in anxieties about creativity and choice during the recording process – but it was a neat reminder to just get on with it and play what came to the surface.”
Tracklist:
Peder Mannerfelt – Limits to Growth
LXV – Hush
J-Zbel – Bertrand Du Mont D'or
Lila Tirando a Violeta – Wake Up (Serpiente Reina) (feat. Nick Leon)
JESUSLOVESACID – Swimming
The He-Men – 3 hours
Nick Höppner – Paws
Metrist – OL Face You Got
Toma Kami – This Side Up (Forest Drive West remix)
Auden – Xerox Vina Konda – Arsia Mons
Kreggo – 1 2 3 4
AQXDM – Leisure Techno
Drasko V & Kero – Superheavy (Jesse Somfay Remix)
Detroit Grand Pubahs – Sandwiches (Krafty Kuts Remix)
Joe Craven – Landing Strip
RSD – Kingfisher
Rian Treanor – ATAXIA_B2
Buttechno – Boloto Acid
Jurchen – I’m Everything You’re Not
Airhead – Black Lake
Gramrcy – ???
Barker – Look How Hard I’ve Tried
FFT – orr din
Kelela – Frontline (Gaika)
