I don't usually dress masc goth (though I do occasionally) because I just enjoy feminine things, but here's what I've gathered.

Pants with very boxy silouhettes/ interesting details such as lots of pockets/chains or an interesting closure (think of 1930s suit pants). Creating an interesting silouhette that wouldn't be seen in normie fashion helps to differentiate our styles.

Historical/historical inspired clothing is another huge one. Waistcoats and shirts with lots of frills that are loose-fitting. Shirts with high sleeves rather than a dropped sleeve. Shirts with writing/patches or rivet details and chains. Safety pins and DIYed items also help. Tank tops with loose, baggy arm holes or form fitting turtleneck and a long coat.

The use of interesting patterns (such as damask or jacquard) or interesting fabrics (velvet, silk, satin, denim, lace) can be used to create visual interest in an all black outfit to help take it from basic to beautiful

Like with any part of goth, your accessories and makeup are key. Masc makeup doesn't always need a black lip, sometimes a simple black underline of the eye can scream goth (but a black/ dark lip or even going full trad wouldn't hurt!).

Sunglasses with chains, big hats, belt chains and safety pins everywhere. Styled hair also really helps I think.

Don't be afraid to add jewellery too! A cross necklace/ rosary can really help sell the image

In my opinion, masc goth embraces a good bit of femininity. After all, goth is a rejection of societal norms and expectations which includes that of gender expression (though I know knowing that doesn't impact our own gender expression needs).

There are also many different styles of masc goth, just as there are fem, so just play around and find what you enjoy!

Serious question to / help from goth people

How the hell do you dress goth but in a masculine way? All I ever see is dresses/skirts and that's it, Pinterest rarely ever has anything ever and tiktok won't show me much. I wanna have a Gothic outfit to try out but I have no idea how to start that :( (unfortunately I'm thinking of how people draw Michael from South Park sigh)

(Yes ik being goth isn't all about how you dress, I want to dress like that because it's cool. I'm a metalhead/punk ig so 💀)

I absolutely hate HATE the fetishzision of goth girls/people. I fucking hate it. We need to go back to being weird as fuck, off-putting, odd, whatever. I like being a gross nasty goth with a teeth collection and interested with Victorian medicine and death and has messy smudged grimey makeup and cracked lips and letting spiders crawl into my hands after they fell from their web to put them back. Everything that will make people who just see goth people as just a freaky sex thing to turn their noses because jfc I'm more than that.

I had a very weird dream this morning about a webcomic about an older goth guy and his 2 adoptive “ant girl” daughters.

The goth dude kinda looked like if you combined young Trent Reznor and young Peter Murphy. The ant girls were kinda like cat girls but with ants instead of cats, like they looked mostly human but with ant features. They were about the size of the average teenage human. I remember one of the ant girls was like a red ant with long red hair and whatnot, and the other was a black ant with shorter black hair. I think the red girl had some kind of backstory about how she was a parasitic ant larvae that was sent to infiltrate a different species ant colony (???) but failed and got abandoned and that’s how goth guy adopted her. Idk about the other girl’s backstory or the goth guy’s backstory or what any of their names were.

The comic was REALLY popular online, esp tumblr and Reddit for some reason. On Reddit the red girl was more popular but on tumblr people were REALLY obsessed with the goth guy, I think my subconscious invented a new tumblr sexyman.
