I wrote a little scene earlier in Discord based on this concept. A reimagining of Jason's dip in the Lazarus Pit.

GoodMom!Talia called Bruce to let him know she'd found Jason alive, and he was scrambling to get to his son and Talia. But Ra's found her and Jason first and Talia had to put Jason into the Pit in an effor to protect him from her father.

Bruce gets there in time for Jason to emerge from the Pit, furious and raging, but alive and whole.

Bruce "knows" Jason is in the grips of Pit madness and all he wants is bloodshed and death, but he doesn't care. His boy is alive.

So he gets in the way of all the ninjas surrounding them. He catches Jason as the reborn teenager lunges at the first threat ready to rip his throat out.

But Bruce holds on. He wraps Jason up and weathers the storm of his son's fury. His howls. His screams. His attempts to claw and hit Bruce.

But all the while, Bruce holds on for dear life, because that's what Jason is to him... He holds on and whispers so many things into his son's ear. How much he loves him. How sorry he is for how he died. How he just wants his boy to come home and for them to be a family again.

Eventually, Jason's howls begn to change, softening into heartbroken frightened sobs... his movements are changing too. Instead of lashing out, he's curling up, hands gripping into Bruce's uniform, trying to pull him closer.

"D-dad," Jason finally gasps out as the green haze fades from his vision and he focuses his frightened, confused blue eyes on his father. "Dad..."

I have a new Lazarus Pit headcanon that @cr1mson5returns and I dreamed up the other day while brainstorming about a Batfam AU:

"Suddenly struck with a metaphor... Being revived by the Lazarus Pit is being literally reborn. When babies are born, the first thing they do is cry angrily. They are loud and long and persistent and practically inconsolable for being ripped from the only safe place they ever knew until they are put into the arms of their parent. Once held and cradled by their mother or father, only then are they finally calmed.

What if the trick to lessening the immediate violent effects of a Lazarus Pit's madness is similar? That someone revived will come back angry and lashing out at the world until they can be held and comforted by someone who could bond with them and love them?

And just imagine... What if Ra's had the "solution" to the resurrection madness caused by the the Pits completely wrong? The old bastard thought that the pit rage needed to be satisfied by killing to sate a primal blood lust, so he forced the newly reborn to kill right from the start. Eventually the reborn would calm down and stop killing, but it would also traumatize the person's soul and further corrupt/polluted the Lazarus Pit so the madness inflicted the next time would be far worse.'

Imagine what kind of different story Jason Todd's life could've turned into upon being resurrected by the Lazarus Pit if Talia had held him and bonded with him as a good mother, or if Bruce was able to be there and hold him as his literal miracle child was able to be held alive and warm in his arms again.

“Since when did you want a simple life? [....] You’ve done well. It’s been hard for you, I know. [....] No cat could doubt that. You will be remembered as one of the greatest leaders of any Clan. [....] Yes. [....] Well, come along, then.... They’re waiting for you.”
