and the award for the most ridiculous latin name goes to... gongylus gongylodes, aka the wandering violin mantis.

as a violinist this mantis really appealed to me. this little one’s name is cadenza - a cadenza occurs when an orchestra rests or sustains a note or chord whilst a soloist plays an ornamental or improvised passage. many famous musical pieces feature iconic violin cadenzas.

everything about this little dude screams magician. they call him the wandering violin and look at his slender body. and his latin name is a fucking spell you cant convince me otherwise

The wandering violin mantis [Gongylus Gongylodes] has an ear-like organ on its thorax (like most of the mantis). With it they can hear ultrasonic frequencies that allow them to perceive bat noises. Quite useful ability to escape from predators.

can i ask what your favourite kinds of bugs are? i love mantids💕💕especially devils flower and dragons, they’re so stunning💕💕💕💕

I agree, they look like real life faeries!I’ve got a great big love for the Malaysian blue carpenter bee (Xylocopa caerulea)..! Bees in general are a big favorite of mine.But I also love mantises (back while I was raising them, I ran a mantis blog..!) My favorite species to keep was Heirodula parviceps. But in terms of looks, I just adore the wandering violins (Gongylus gongylodes)..!Additionally, my heart skips a beat every time I encounter a wild Hyllus diardi (heavy jumping spider)--they’re just SO CUTE. And any insect that spans the length of my hand or larger... I get real excited about big buggos.

Ooh ooh ooh! *bounce* Yes I like insects! I love insects! ...er...most of them. Some can go die in a fire as far as I’m concerned but MOST OF THEM YES! ...and I think my favourite kind of insect has to be mantids. Yes the ENTIRE GROUP NOT JUST THE MANTIS GENUS. Though I could probably narrow it down to Hymenopus coronatus, Idolomantis diabolica, or Gongylus gongylodes . I LOVE these guys.

Bearded dragon: What is your favourite flower?

Hee. Another one that’s a little hard for me. It’s a toss-up between orchids and lavender. I mean, I love old-fashioned garden roses, but they don’t like me, so. XD
