upon further reflection, it’s absolutely no surprise that tumblr woke up one day and collectively decided to blog about a movie that doesn’t exist. it combines three of this site’s users’ favorite things:

saying words about a media and deeply analyzing a text in a way that often finds more meaning than its creators intended (this time with the benefit of no one being able to fucking contradict you, because you can literally say whatever you want and there’s nothing to undermine you)

communally going wild about the most random and obscure things that the entire rest of the internet could not care less about (e.g. dashboard crabs, a classic novel from 120+ years ago, the fucking annual celebration of the ides of march, etc)

“yes, and”ing their way into a site-wide bit that gives people the freedom to spawn dozens of memes and revive old jokes for no particular reason

I don't know whether to be proud of this hellsite or recoil in horror at just how far its come from being a safe little bubble ignored by the rest of the world.

My fleeting thoughts before I hopefully go to sleep. But Goncharov (1973) is the exact thing I keep coming to tumblr for. Those funny made up words or the common things people blog about (ie: blorbo and Dracula daily) what makes the place feel whole. Somehow people all across the site come to know of this stuff in one shape or form, despite the lack of recommendations/for you page, people just seem to agree that these things just work. It really feels like an “in joke” for a whole site. Yeah it wouldn’t have been like this in peak superwholock, but you see all this bleed to other sites who are almost always confused by the content. But it spreads the reach that much further to those who seem to “get it”.

Yeah this stuff comes and goes, probably by the end of the month the whole Goncharov thing will be over, much like plinko horse before or “it’s me I’m the ps5…”. Who knows maybe we’ll see a resurgence of something as large of scale as superwholock but with other series, but only time will tell.

I can’t lie though and say I don’t want to make Goncharov fan art lol.
