ULTRA EGO EXPLAINED

"Wagamamma Gokui" A.K.A. "Ultra Ego." A form that Vegeta says isn't to be compared to Goku's Ultra Instinct, but ironically he still compares and gives it a similar name.

But, what are the abilities of Ultra Ego? Well, many fans say that it gives Vegeta...

The ability to use Hakai energy at a God of Destruction level.

The ability to get stronger from taking damage.

Even though the DBS manga illustrates that Vegeta gets stronger from taking damage when in his Ultra Ego transformation, Ultra Ego DOES NOT give Vegeta the ability to turn damage into fuel. How bold of me to disagree with what is said and shown to the reader!! Well... I have my reasons.

TLDR; Ultra Ego is actually the amplification of your natural abilities & personality along with the ability to use God of Destruction power to a higher degree.

To fully understand my reasoning, let's look at Vegeta's abilities & Ultra Ego's "abilities."

SAIYAN ABILITIES vs ULTRA EGO

VEGETA:

"SAIYAN-POWER": Vegeta gets stronger from taking damage due to the innate Saiyan ability to get stronger during battle. And the thrill of combat is what Saiyans live for.

ULTRA EGO:

"BATTLE SOUL": While taking damage in this transformed state, Vegeta grows stronger due to his so-called "battle soul" burning hot. And as a Saiyan, the thrill of combat is what he lives for.

VEGETA:

HAKAI TECHNIQUE: Vegeta learned how to use Hakai energy from Beerus.

ULTRA EGO:

HAKAI TECHNIQUE: While in this transformed state, Vegeta is granted greater power to create stronger Hakai attacks that he could not perform prior to this God of Destruction transformation.

VEGETA:

ATTITUDE: Arrogant.

ULTRA EGO:

ATTITUDE: Egomaniac.

Now, what I stated at the begining is making sense. Saiyans already get stronger from taking damage & Vegeta can use the Hakai technique in his base form. Ultra Ego is meant to greatly amplify what Vegeta can naturally do & has learned.

Furthermore, we can examine the traits of another mortal who used a God of Destruction transformation; Toppo from the DBS Anime Continuity.

THE POWER OF A GOD OF DESTRUCTION

TOPPO

VEGETA

Ultra Ego is simply a God of Destruction transformation that alters the appearance, greatly amplifies power & natural abilities, & allows the user to use GoD level Hakai attacks.

It's literally the same type of power as Toppo's Hakaishin form from the DBS Anime Continuity, except Anime Toppo & Manga Vegeta use Hakai abilities differently. The manga decides to shift focus soley on a single type of Hakai attack; the "explosive" Hakai. But there are other Hakai techniques performed in both the anime continuity & manga continuity; Explosive, Sand, Disenigration.

TO SUMMARIZE:

WHAT IS ULTRA EGO?

Obviously, Ultra Ego is simply God of Destruction power just as the title for DBS Chapter 75 informs us. Vegeta just makes up a name for the power on the fly.

WHAT DOES GOD OF DESTRUCTION POWER DO?

Beerus taught Vegeta that GoD power is unbounded. Meaning "Ultra Ego" is a type of limit-breaking power. Similarly, the limit-breaking power of SSBE is referred to as "boundless energy."

However, Ultra Ego allows you to push yourself beyond your limit until you completely exhaust yourself & fall out of the GoD transformation. SSBE doesn't let the body get pushed to such an extreme that leaves you completely vulnerable for the sake of power that will burn out.

We can conclude that what the limit-breaking power of "Ultra Ego" does is...

alter the appearance of a mortal using the GoD form

increase strength & durability

enhance the natural abilities & the strength of techniques

grant the user to use GoD level Hakai attacks

amplify the personality of the user

EXTRA:

By looking at context clues & using some deductive reasoning, it appears that ONLY when Vegeta is engaged in battle while using the Ultra Ego form, there is "no limit" for his God of Destruction power.

But, since Vegeta is not a true GoD like Beerus, once Vegeta runs out of "fuel" or when he powers down from his Ultra Ego form, the extra strength that he gained through taking damage during combat is gone because the power boosts leave when the Ultra Ego power leaves. Vegeta will have to restart his power progression all over again whenever he transforms back into Ultra Ego.

From my understanding, Ultra Ego appears to function something like this...

Let’s catch up and see how far things have gone along...

In 2020, I did a little Twist of Fate putting characters from Dragon Ball Super (the anime) into the Fan Sequel to Dragon Ball Z called Dragon Ball Multiverse. Since then, I dropped Multiverse due to how they seem to not take criticism well. Especially since Bra was responsible for a lot of horrible things but basically got away scott free. But four years is a long time so surely they finished the tournament and moved on to something else right? Let’s find out together.

Recap

If you don’t want to read the previous, here’s what’s up: Dragon Ball Super’s Universe 9 (alongside a few from Universe 6 and 11) are replacing the Multiverse Universe 10 due to them having mostly filler. The Final 8 of the tournament is Super's Frieza, Toppo (who I didn't mention won his fight with Majin Buu), Goku, Universe 17 Cell, Super's Hit, Universe 4 Buu, Universe 16 Son Bra, and Universe 7 Gast Carcolh (their Namekian OC). That match hasn’t happened yet because Babidi tried to take over. But since a lot of Powerful Super characters were just watching (Broly and Jiren for example), it was hardly the bloodbath it originally was. And as mentioned, if the fight happened in Multiverse I won’t repeat it here.

The Aftermath

Since Bra didn’t do nearly as much as she did in the original story, due to facing Broly and being dominated, it's basically the same as canon except Vegitto doesn’t get all the blame and Pan doesn’t hate Bra. They just blame it all on Babidi’s mind control and let things continue. But that’s when Super’s Vegeta asked to talk to Bra alone. In a room away from everyone, Vegeta asked why Bra took Babidi’s offer. When she tries to blame it on mind control, Vegeta debunks it.

In the original, even Universe 18’s Vegeta, the one supposedly in canon, didn’t bring it up. When someone did, it was under the guise that since he was willing to sell it, he was free of control. But in reality there is no evidence of such within Dragon Ball or their own continuity. So in reality, everyone who was under the control of Babidi did so willingly. There was never a case of someone under Babidi’s Influence unwillingly. Because if they were unwilling, how on earth could Babidi bring out their best.

So I’m going to have Bra drama dump her history to Vegeta. How she’s a berserker who if not controlled can possibly destroy everything. And if she crossed the point of no return, Vegitto would kill her. Vegeta then tells her that there’s something wrong with him because Vegeta was willing to let all of their Universe be erased rather than miss out on her birth. And then willing to do everything in his power to protect her and the rest of his family to prevent it. 

Vegeta theorizes that this Vegitto is made of the combined worst aspects of both Goku and Vegeta. Maybe never having the same commitment that he does. Bra has potential; she just needs to learn how to control it. And she points to their Broly as an example as such. Like her, his rage makes him dangerous. But because he can control its target, it has since become a great tool to push himself beyond the limits of a Saiyan. And if Bra can master how to control her rage, it can become a great tool for her.

Quarter Finals

Frieza Vs Toppo - Again, a very impressive fight. Luckily for Frieza Toppo has not used his God of Destruction Powers, so this allows Frieza to use the ring to his advantage and take out Toppo.

Goku Vs Universe 17 Cell - Cell still has the boost Babidi granted him since Bra kept it. But honestly, he knows he can’t beat this Goku. But he makes a proposition to the hosts: a replacement. He offers to give up his spot to someone else in the tournament: Vegitto. Vegitto is ecstatic because this means he can have a shot against this universe again. Hit felt cheap, but seeing just how strong their Universe is really got him excited. Goku and the rest of Universe 16 and 18 agree. Even Vegeta did so. It got the crowd excited and honestly, at this point they just couldn’t stop it.

Goku Vs Vegitto - Vegitto goes all out, even turning Super Saiyan 3, but Goku only responds by going Super Saiyan God. Vegitto doesn’t understand it. Goku looks slimmer than before. Yet still he can’t sense any energy from him. So Vegitto doesn’t know if this is a stronger version of Super Saiyan Blue or some lower form before that. Regardless, Vegitto gives it his best. Despite the increase of power, Vegitto was still too slow for the Saiyan God. This was when he knew he had to think of something else.

So he went Kaioken. The surprise boost allowed him to get one hit in. Goku smiled. He admitted he couldn’t use Kaioken with the Super Saiyan forms. He also admits he only managed to use it again when he used God Ki. But Goku wants to try something. He depowers to base form, closes his eyes and breathes slowly. Vegitto wonders what this could be but knows it can’t be him giving up. This has to be something amazing. So going as fast as he can, he charges at Goku to try to deliver a punch...

Only for Goku to effortlessly dodge it. He goes for a follow up only to be immediately counter attacked. Even in base, this hurt Vegitto. Goku was using Ultra Instinct. The Kais were shocked. They heard of such a technique, but never saw anyone able to use it. No matter what Vegitto could do, Goku had an answer for it. It was like the fight against Hit, but Vegitto was able to see the counter attacks coming but just couldn’t respond to them. 

The fight ends with Vegitto going to destroy the entire ring but Goku riding the Big Bang Kamehameha to hit Vegitto with his. Just like against Kefla. Goku beats Vegitto. This is the second time he lost, but he just couldn’t help but laugh. It has been too long since he faced anyone who could actually rival him. And unlike Hit, there was no trick. It was just pure skill. This shocked Bra. She never saw her father like this. Maybe there’s more to their universe than initial appearances.

Hit Vs Universe 4 Buu - Good news, Hit’s Time Skip Ability is still uncountable to Buu. Bad news, Buu’s regenerative nature makes it hard for Hit’s fighting style to work. Being a guy for precision, he doesn't have the ability to completely erase an opponent. Even his Time Stop Ability he used against Jiren was of no use because Buu would have a copy somewhere to stop it. So basically in a war of attrition, Buu wins. He is so tempted to take Hit since he is completely unique to anyone he has absorbed but had to continue playing the part of being a captive. 

Buu’s Reveal - Because Buu played his hand too openly, the reveal happens after he won. They disqualify him but Buu goes for the all out attack. This time Whis handles the Magic and captures Buu with Gast’s spell. It was quite simple for him to replicate it. And unlike with the Kai, it is truly all Buu in one orb. He is sent back to his universe with no other issue.

Semi-Finals and Beyond

Goku Vs Frieza - Since I’m sticking with the anime and thus no Black Frieza, Goku wins.

I'K'L’s Birth - I'K'L freezes time, preventing anyone else from moving. Thing is he only did it for Living beings. So Androids like 16, 17, 18 and Universe 9’s Yamcha are unaffected by it. And since I brought 18 along in the Spectators, she is also unaffected by I'K'L’s Time Freeze. But it's not just the androids. Jiren is also free to move around. This is not the first time someone has tried to stop time against him. And it is Jiren who stops I'K'L from hurting Vegitto.

I'K'L is shocked. How could someone living still move? So Jiren handles him while 18 and Yamcha handle Universe 14’s 17 and 18. And it’s honestly less handling and more babysitting as the two are clearly levels above them. When I'K'L wonders why they fight, Yamcha speaks for Jiren. He even asks about just doing XXI. Jiren wants to know more but Yamcha doesn’t want anyone to die. So Yamcha finishes I'K'L off but not before that last shot. 

Gast Carcolh Vs Buu - Since Buu was disqualified and sent back home, Gast wins. And that’s where Multiverse is currently. They spent a good amount of time doing an awards ceremony and setting up XXI being the next big bad of the comic arc and setting up his fight with Universe 18’s Goku. But since Gast and Super Goku are not facing him, they are moving on to the finals.

Goku Vs Gast Carcolh - Gast knows he is not a physical match for Goku. And unlike Bra, Goku has shown skills far beyond any opponent in this tournament. He thinks of multiple scenarios in both offensive and defensive. Using various magics he has seen over the time of this tournament to a Strength Draining Spell he has. But with Goku’s high and undetectable level of power as well as Ultra Instinct, there’s honestly nothing Gast can think of that could defeat Goku.

But that’s when Goku makes a proposition. He figured Gast probably is thinking of forfeiting but to have that in the finals would be boring. So Goku makes a suggestion: no ki, no magic, no energy projecting, just pure martial arts. Gast thinking, since he really has no other chance, might as well. So it is a fight closer to the levels of Goku Vs Jackie Chun near the end of their match. It even ends with a kick that KOs both of them. But unlike last time where Jackie won because he can put a lot more force into his kick via longer reach, Goku wins.

And that’s where this ends. At least the tournament is almost over.
