Dragon Ball Super 125
Tumblr media
Life comes at you fast.
Tumblr media
Man, Vegeta Blue looks way better than Goku Blue. I just want to see Goku get to UI again so we wonā€™t have to put up with this teal color anymore.
Tumblr media
Anyway, last time Gohan sacrificed himself to eliminate Dyspo.Ā  Now, on the bench, Beerus gives him an attaboy, and at first he calls him Gokuā€™s son, then he corrects himself and calls Gohan by his name.Ā
Tumblr media
Gohan stands up and bows to Beerus in appreciation.Ā  Everyone stands up an claps for the show of respect... is what I would be saying if this were happening in front of a wrestling crowd.Ā  The Mutal Respect Pop is always a classic.Ā  Well, Iā€™m marking out for Beerus and Gohan, even if this group is just sitting on their hands.
Tumblr media
Oh, right, Goku spares a moment to mark out too.Ā  Everyone who says Goku is a bad dad is a big poopie-head.Ā  Heā€™s in the middle of a hellacious battle with an unstoppable opponent for the fate of the universe, and he still canā€™t help but check out his son getting a compliment.Ā
Tumblr media
Anyway, letā€™s move on to the real meat of this story, which is Top fighting 17 and Frieza.Ā  Staring off, Top is just fighting 17 alone, and he canā€™t get past 17ā€²s force field.Ā  Itā€™s interesting, because this arc has done a lot to cement the idea that 17 is a green force field specialist.Ā  Itā€™s not his only trick, but he does this one a lot in the Tournament of Power, and itā€™s clearly meant to be his unique thing.Ā  Meanwhile, I donā€™t think we ever see 18 do it, even though a number of video games give her a pink force field, implying that she has the same ability.Ā
Tumblr media
Anyway, 17 returns fire when he gets the chance, and Top canā€™t get clear without eating a hit.Ā  From the bench, everyone wonders what 17 is up to, since this appears to be a stalemate.Ā  18 suggests that the stalemate might be the point.Ā  17 wonā€™t tire out, so he can literally do this for the rest of of the tournament.Ā  If he can keep Top pinned down, he can run out the clock and Universe 7 will win, since they have four fighters on the stage and U11 only has two.Ā
This is the first real talk of Universe 7 trying to leverage that advantage.Ā  We never learn for certain if 17 is seriously considering this, although he probably likes the idea of shaving some second off the clock, if nothing else.Ā  After all, Goku tried to ring-out Jiren with misdirection instead of power last episode, so the desperation seems to be setting in with these guys.
But itā€™s all for naught, as Top manages to see a pattern in 17ā€²s shots and gets clear without being hit.Ā  Then he does something really extreme...
Tumblr media
Yeah, drink it in, folks, itā€™s Topā€™s mouth.Ā  Not a big fan of this.
Tumblr media
Top sets up a beam struggle with 17 and seems to have a clear advantage, until who should happen along but...?
Tumblr media
Friezaā€™s here, and heā€™s going to enjoy shooting Top in the back while he struggles against 17. Itā€™s an impossible situation for Top, and Friezaā€™s savoring every moment.
Tumblr media
Finally, Top is overwhelmed, and Frieza takes some more time to gloat.Ā  Heā€™s really laying it on thick considering he only met this guy less than an hour ago.Ā  It kind of makes me question all the stuff he said to Vegeta on Namek.Ā  Thereā€™s an implication that he was genuinely hurt or at least offended by Vegetaā€™s betrayal, but now I get the sense that he just plays mindgames with everyone, even when theyā€™re already beaten down.Ā  Iā€™d use Top as an example of this, except...
Tumblr media
...Top isnā€™t down, and heā€™s far from beaten.
Tumblr media
He begins to power up, and itā€™s so impressive that everyone starts to notice...
Tumblr media
Even Jiren is like ā€œSo, heā€™s finally made his choice,ā€ or words to that effect.Ā
Tumblr media
From the bench, Belmod explains everything.Ā  Top isnā€™t just the leader of the Pride Troopers.Ā  Heā€™s also a God of Destruction-in-training.Ā  This was a weird time to reveal all of this, since up to now the show really hadnā€™t addressed this process.Ā  Whis and Beerus have occasionally mentioned the notion of Goku or Vegeta replacing Beerus as Destroyer some day, but neither Saiyan wants the job, so it never really goes anywhere.Ā  Top is the first guy to demonstrate this in practice.Ā  So now we see that the Hakaishin arenā€™t immortal, and they replace their dead with other mortals who have undergone special training to ascend to godhood.Ā  This is why Beerus has an angel guide, Whis.Ā  Once upon a time, Whis must have trained him the same way Top was trained, and then Beerus took the job and continued to need Whis to show him how to do it properly.Ā
The manga spelled all this out before the Tournament of Power, when Belmod introduced Top as his successor.Ā  Also the manga had Belmod explicitly state that he was planning to retire soon.Ā  I kind of wish the anime would have given us the same information.Ā  As it is, it just seems like Belmod is training other Destroyers for no real reason.Ā Ā
As far as the timing goes, I can see why the anime chose to wait.Ā  They introduced Top as Kahiā€™s ā€œbodyguardā€, which is a clever way of hiding Topā€™s true potential to the competition.Ā  Not that they expected Top to pull this off during the tournament, but they were aware of the possibility.Ā  So itā€™s a great twist.Ā  The problem is that they never explain why Top has been preparing to take the role.Ā  It just sounds like they snuck a god on the team without telling anyone.Ā
I think the narrative is fairly clear, though.Ā  Whis had said that there were rumors of a mortal defeating one of the Destroyers, and that almost certainly had to be Jiren, who must have beaten Belmod at some point.Ā  And maybe that defeat convinced Belmod that it was time to hang up his clown shoes.Ā  He probably offered the job to Jiren, who must have declined, so he asked Top, who accepted.Ā
Tumblr media
From the way Belmod and Khai describe it, it sounds like Top learned how to tap into this Destroyer power some time ago, but he never truly embraced these abilities until now.Ā  And Top himself declares that he no longer fights for justice, as that concept no longer has any meaning for him.Ā  Instead, Top says he now fights for the survival of his universe, as he has become an arbiter of what shall be and not be.Ā  So itā€™s kind of like he had to let go of his mortal life as a Pride Trooper to get this power-up.Ā
Tumblr media
It seems like the only one who doesnā€™t understand the gravity of this development is Frieza.Ā  His ki blasts simply vanish when they hit Top, because heā€™s wrapped a field of destruction energy around him like armor. Ā  Then Top shoots a big ball of destruction energy at Frieza, and he still laughs it off, because he easily neutralized a similar attack back in Episode 95.Ā  He thinks this will be just as simple.
Tumblr media
Yeah, it doesnā€™t go so well for him.
Tumblr media
Thereā€™s a big explosion and even the spectators have to shield their eyes.
Tumblr media
The sky even changes color, which is great because I was getting sick of that green background.Ā  Actually, this may have nothing to do with Top, since the last time the Null Realm changed color, it was when the tournament was half-over.Ā  This might be another response to the timer.
Tumblr media
The blast wrecks a huge chunk of the ring.Ā  I donā€™t seem to have a good shot of the aftermath, but Iā€™m pretty sure half of it is reduced to rubble.Ā  I guess that doesnā€™t matter much, since thereā€™s only six people using it.Ā  Half the space is still plenty.
Tumblr media
With Frieza MIA, 17 can only try to carry on the fight as best he can. This time when Top uses his Justice Flash, 17ā€²s barrier begins to shatter.Ā  Even his conventional ki attacks are stronger than before.
Tumblr media
Fighting back is useless, since energy blasts donā€™t even slow Top down anymore.Ā  Theyā€™re just obliterated against the destruction energy around his body.
Tumblr media
Hiding is nearly impossible, since Top can just destroy all the obstacles in the ring and come straight for his target.Ā  Itā€™s suggested that if you tried to punch Top in this state, you might lose your arm.Ā
Tumblr media
But Frieza still comes back to try again.Ā  Heā€™s dropped out of Golden mode, but he still survived the Destruction Energy Top fired at him.Ā  My guess is that Frieza was able to neutralize it like he did in Episode 95, but it took a lot more out of him this time around, which is why whole ring didnā€™t get annihilated.Ā  And yet he still acts like Top isnā€™t any big deal.Ā  I donā€™t know if Frieza is just delusional here or heā€™s just so used to being like this that he doesnā€™t know how to be desperate or worried.
Tumblr media
Top doesnā€™t mind taking a moment to show him.
Tumblr media
Yeahhhhhhh, crush his dumb little head!Ā  Grape juice for everyone!
Tumblr media
Well, actually Top explains that he canā€™t destroy Frieza, since he would just get disqualified for that.Ā  But when he tries to chuck him out of the ring...
Tumblr media
17 spoils the shot, and Frieza lands in some crevice somewhere.Ā  So heā€™s still in the tournament, for whatever thatā€™s worth.Ā  So is 17, although his prospects are looking mighty dim...
Tumblr media
I mean, he was having trouble with this guy at the start of this episode, and now the situationā€™s only gotten worse for him.Ā  Whatā€™s he gonna do now?
Hereā€™s KISS with ā€œHeavenā€™s on Fire.ā€

That Went South So Fast
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All right, things were going rather decently here. 17 was facing off with Toppo, and throwing some sass his way! It was all good. BUT THEN...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toppo starts getting the upper hand on our beloved Android, dear old Frieza came to the rescue and even lectures 17. And then not only does he help 17 double-team Toppo, he pushes Toppoā€™s Berserk button, causing that overgrown Lorax to unless his God of Destruction prowess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
17 realizes that things just took a horrific turn for the worst for Universe 7. And after Toppo seemingly blast Frieza to oblivion, 17 tries to overtake him but is sadly and quickly over powered.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thankfully, Frieza survives and tries to attack Toppo again, which just leads to him getting curb stomped. And Iā€™m not gonna lie, that part was kind of funny. It was sort of amusing to see Frieza get taken off his high horse. And right before he almost gets eliminated, 17 kind of returns the favor for helping him and in his own unique way by decking Frieza with a rock. Funniest part ever in my opinion. Unfortunately, now heā€™s about to get curb stomped by Destruction Toppo.
God bless that man, but he just brought piss to a shit fight. Unlimited energy or not, Something like that doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s up against someone that powerful. This is not gonna end well for him. I am not looking forward to the next episode for that specific reason. Be strong 17!!!!

It's ridiculous how strong Toppo and Jiren are. I can't see how Uniserve 7 is supposed to win.

The Preview Starring Toppo the Swole
I'm a bit disturbed by what's happening next...
So, not only is Frieza going nuts, as indicated by his facial expression, but Toppo...
His shirt is ripped off... He's swole (at an uncomfortable level). He's detailed at an uncomfortable level...
(uncomfortable internal screaming)

Tournament of Power Update: Episode 106
UNIVERSE 2 (The Magical Girl Universe)
Members remaining: 6
Brianne de Chateau
Rabranra
Jimizu
Su Roas
Zirloin
Zarbuto
Harmira
Pran
Sanka Ku
Vikal
The good news for these guys is that they managed to knock off one of the U7 team.Ā  The bad news is that it cost two of their own to make that happen.Ā  So now U2, has gone from a complete roster to fourth place in a matter of minutes.Ā
Now that weā€™ve seen a little of what this team can do, the theme Iā€™m noticing is that they seem to rely on elaborate team attacks.Ā  The Kamikaze Fireballs worked as a unit, Jimizuā€™s been using Instant Transission to save his teammates, and now Harmira and Pran have this sniper thing going.Ā
All of this is effective until their coordination is disrupted.Ā  Jimizu managed to save some his teammates, but he canā€™t be everywhere at once.Ā  Vikal can watch Sanka Kuā€™s back, but not if 17 eliminates her first.Ā  Pranā€™s helpless without Harmiraā€™s firepower, and Harmiraā€™s firepower isnā€™t worth a hoot without Pran to direct it towards an enemy.Ā
If this principle applies to the whole team, then it would seem that things can only get worse for them as they lose members.Ā  With only six fighters left, thereā€™s fewer ways for them to combine their techniques.Ā  On the other hand, this might be a blessing in disguise.Ā  With only six fighters, itā€™s easier for Jimizu to protect the other five from elimination.Ā  So they might be able to ride this thing out.Ā
UNIVERSE 3 (The Cyborg Universe)

Paparoni
Maji Kayo
Katpesra
Panchia
Borareta
Koitsukai
Nigrisshi
Nairama
The Preecho
It looks like the B-plot of the next episode involves Maji Kayo trying to mop up Universe 11, which will almost certainly backfire.Ā
The one complaint I have about the Tournament of Power is that most of the other teams donā€™t seem to be putting a lot of thought into their strategy.Ā  Maji Kayo should be targeting Universes 6 and 7, since theyā€™re in the lead.Ā Ā  Going after the Pride Troopers is a waste of time, since theyā€™re still in last place whether you beat them or not.Ā Ā  And if Maji Kayo gets eliminated, his team ends up in a worse position than before.
On the other hand, I may be reading the situation all wrong, and the Pride Troopers are the ones ganging up on Maji Kayo.Ā  But thatā€™s still on U3, because they should be expecting the smaller teams to start coming after them.Ā  And I suppose itā€™s unfair to assume that these fighters can keep track of whoā€™s who and how many teammates they have left.Ā  Maji Kayoā€™s just trying to toss as many guys as he can before the buzzer.
UNIVERSE 4 (The Crappy Green Mouse Guyā€™s Universe)
Members Remaining: 4
Damon
Monna
Shantsa
Gamisaras
Nink
Shosa
Majora
Ganos
Caway
Darkori
Not much to say here.Ā  In theory, U4ā€²s attack on Roshi last time was the correct play, except they committed way too much of their team to the effort.Ā  The irony is that Roshi will probably be eliminated very soon, thanks to their wearing him down, but they have very little to show for it.Ā
UNIVERSE 6 (The Saiyans-didnā€™t-all-die Universe)
Members Remaining: 8
Cabba
Frost
Hit
Auta Magetta
Caulifla
Kale
Saonel
Pirina
Dr. Rota
Botamo
Dr. Rota is oh-dubya-tee OWT.Ā  Iā€™m disappointed because I really wanted to see what he could do, but Vegeta Galick Gunned him off the stage like a jerk.Ā  Iā€™m left to conclude that Rota really didnā€™t bring that much to the table, and Champa just really, really sucks at recruiting.Ā
Letā€™s look at it like this: Vegeta single-handedly defeated Auta Magetta, Frost, and Cabba in the U6 vs. U7 tournament.Ā  The only reason he didnā€™t beat Botamo is because Goku took care of him first.Ā  Champa was then charged with expanding his team to ten members for another tournament involving Vegeta, so he went and found Dr. Rota who.... also lost to Vegeta.Ā
To be sure, Hit has a win over Vegeta, so thereā€™s that.Ā  Iā€™m just saying that Champa knew he had to find more guys like Hit, and that clearly hasnā€™t happened.Ā  Because it wonā€™t be enough for Hit to polish off Vegeta.Ā  He has to beat Vegeta and Goku and Freiza and Gohan, and anyone else on the other teams with comparable power.Ā Ā  Those two Namekians need to beat the shit out of Vegeta, is what Iā€™m saying.Ā
UNIVERSE 7 (The Dragon Ball Z Universe)
Members Remaining: 8
Son Goku
Vegeta
Son Gohan
Piccolo
Frieza
Master Roshi
No. 17
No. 18
Tien Shinhan
Krillin
Tienā€™s out, but he helped take a couple guys with him, so I guess thereā€™s that.Ā  The bigger story here is that Piccolo took a lot of damage, and while he can regenerate himself, doing this taxes his stamina, so he may be vulnerable in the near future.Ā  And apparently Roshiā€™s going to attempt another Evil Containment Wave, this time on Frost, in the next episode.Ā  How many bottles did Roshi bring to this thing?Ā  No matter how it ends up, Roshi is probably going to be eliminated soon, or heā€™ll be too exhausted to help his team, so the U7 guys will probably be down to six very soon.Ā  But those six would be the major powers of the team, and they might still be in the lead by the time it happens.Ā Ā  If Maji Kayo gets tossed, and if Frost and Magettaā€™s plan backfires in the next episode, then that would leave Universes 2, 3, 6, and 7 all tied for first place.Ā Ā  Itā€™d almost be a reset on the tournament, except this truncated U7 team would have Android 18 as its weakest link.Ā  Not a bad place to be.Ā
UNIVERSE 11 (The Pride Trooper Universe)
Members Remaining: 3
Toppo
Jiren
Dyspo
Kunshee
Kahseral
Cocotte
Vuon
Tupper
Zoiray
Kettol
The Pride Troopers havenā€™t done much since Kunshee was eliminated, which is probably smart, since they no longer have any margin for error.Ā  Seven eliminations happened in the last two episodes, and they didnā€™t have to lift a finger.Ā  Theyā€™ll need twenty-three more eliminations to happen before they can win, but they donā€™t have to be the ones making those eliminations.Ā  If they take out Maji Kayo in Episode 107, and if Roshi, Frost, and Magetta are eliminated, then they need nineteen more eliminations to happen.Ā  And at the rate weā€™re going, that shouldnā€™t take much longer.Ā  Itā€™s possible that theyā€™ve settled on a strategy of targeting vulnerable opponents and three-on-one kicking their ass.Ā Ā  Itā€™s not very honorable, but Toppo made it clear that this is a matter of survival from here on.Ā  Besides, every other team in this thing has resorted to similar practices.Ā  The difference is that Toppo, Jiren, and Dyspo can actually do it effectively.Ā

As the Tournament of Power reaches its conclusion, I am constantly reminded of Dragon Ball Superā€™s 7th ending theme:Ā An Evil Angel and Righteous Devil.Ā  Towards the end of it, thereā€™s a line that goes ā€œJustice and evil both carry the same gunā€.Ā  I couldnā€™t help but think about the song when Toppo tells Frieza that ā€œJusticeā€¦is worthless nowā€ during their battle and Toppoā€™s resolve (to become a God of Destruction and forego his morals).Ā  The theme of justice is played with Toppo throughout the Universe Survival Arc. Toppo is a proud warrior of justice; leading his Pride Troopers to battle after battle in the name of all that is righteous.
Tumblr media
From analyzing Toppoā€™s personality, he holds justice, morals, and honor with the utmost respect. Ā He fights fairs: preferring honest play over cheap tactics.Ā  This is shown when Toppo snapped on Android 17 for attacking the Kamikaze Fireball (during their transformation).Ā  Ā He questioned the motives of the Tournament, The Grand Priest, and Zeno-Sama. Ā Toppo doesnā€™t feel right about fighting in a tournament designed to wipe out multiple universes; a tournament in which countless lives will end upon each universeā€™s erasure.
Toppo and his Pride Troopers initially entered the tournament to punish those who they deemed ā€œevilā€.Ā  While survival was ideal, targeting evil doers were their prime goal. However in episode 104 of Super, Toppo started to change his mind.Ā  With seven of his men gone and his universe at risk of deletion, Toppo decides that the Pride Troopers must kill their ideologies of justice and ethics in order to live.
Thereā€™s no place for justice and heroism in a war of survival.
Towards the end of the tournament, Toppo is struggling against Andoird 17.Ā  After analyzing 17ā€™s combat style (and discovering 17 has infinite energy), Toppo decides to end his battle with 17 with one blow.Ā  However, he fails and is forced into a beam struggle with the Universe 7 warrior.Ā  Ā Ā During the struggle, Frieza attacks Toppo from behind.Ā  Frieza taunts Toppo while blasting him with Death Beams. Bored with Toppo, Frieza attempts to blast Toppo off the battlefield; enveloping him with overwhelming energy.
Despite the struggle, Toppo survives but is heavily wounded.
Frieza taunts Toppo once more.Ā  He mocks the man, calling him trash.Ā  He then points out how shameful it must be for Toppo to have his prized uniform of justice in shreds.Ā  Itā€™s here where Toppo snaps.Ā  Coldly, Toppo replies that justice is worthless. Ā After seeing his men fall and the destruction of six universes before him, Toppo comes to a resolution.Ā  Justice is worthless.Ā  It has no use on the battlefield.Ā  Justice doesnā€™t translate to survival.
In order to survive, Ā Toppo gives up on justice.Ā  This same man who praised it with pride now sees it as a waste. A liability even.Ā  Toppo decides to ascend to godhood: A God of Destruction. Ā Destruction ā€“ like war ā€“ is neutral.Ā  It doesnā€™t care about silly ideas like good or evil, justice or injustice.Ā  All it cares for is annihilation and death.
What good are both justice and playing hero if both things never ensure survival?

Well, let's predict, although I suck at that.
ā€¢Episode 124: for now we know that Gohan will help Frieza, maybe because him and 17 need his helps against Toppo, but what Gohan doesnā€™t know is that Frieza apparently makes a deal with Dyspo, something surprising because I doubt that Toppo and Jiren approve that kind of deal with a supervillain but well, Iā€™m sure Frieza will betray U7 but not now, he will wait and help Gohan, together they will defeat Dyspo.
Tumblr media
ā€¢Episode 125: We know that this episode is about Toppo, itā€™s very likely that he will becomes a God or releases all his hidden power, in this episode I think he will eliminate 17 and kick the asses of Gohan and Frieza, they will be saved by Vegeta and we will have the rematch, Vegeta with his new power and Toppo as God of Destruction.
Tumblr media
ā€¢Episode 126: We know that this episode is about Vegeta and that his power will be ā€œsuperiorā€ to that of a God, considering that the previous episode is about Toppo releasing all his God power, I think the fight is between them, Iā€™m 70% sure that Toppo and Vegeta will eliminate each other in this episode or in 127, in the other 30% I think a really tired Vegeta will defeat Toppo but will be eliminated by aĀ treacherous attack by Frieza.
Tumblr media
ā€¢Episode 127 or 128 andĀ onwards: We know nothing about episode 127 onwards, we donā€™t have spoilers yet, but Iā€™m sure the final 3 U7 warriors will be...
Tumblr media
and Frieza, knowing that Jiren is too OP, will help U11, as I said before, maybe his betrayal begins by eliminating Vegeta or maybe by attacking Gohan,Ā something sad because it would end one of the best new ā€œfriendshipsā€ of Dragon Ball...
Tumblr media
but at least we will have a true rematch after 100 episodes, I still remember when Frieza humiliated Gohan, I hope Gohan kick his ass now.
Tumblr media
Now the question is... how would Jiren react to seeing a betrayal? one of the greatest acts of evil! he will be fine with this? he will eliminate Frieza? I donā€™t know, I guess we should wait and see.
As a fan of Gohan I have the theory and the hope that Gohan is the one who defeat Jiren, I think Frieza is part of Gokuā€™s plan to awaken the true power of Gohan, just think about it! Jiren is a good guy, if he win Iā€™m sure he will revive U7 and the other erased universes, not to mention that if Zeno erase universe 7 it would be an instant "death" for Videl and Pan, if Frieza wins, U7 will survive but Friezaā€™s wish will only bring death and chaos, I think Frieza could be the spark that ignites Gohan's anger, with enough raw power to defeat Jiren, but I know this is Goku and Vegeta show so... there arenā€™t many chances :(
Also, another thing... I think Gohan is the one who most deserves the Super Dragon Ballā€™s wish! maybe he didnā€™t eliminate a lot of warriors, maybe he was saved a lot of times, maybe he isnā€™t the strongest, but letā€™s see the other 4 U7 members:
-17 wants a fucking boat, something that he can wish with the normal Dragon Balls.
-Vegeta wants to revive only U6.
-Frieza wants something evil, interesting but evil.Ā
-Goku is an idiot, he will waste the wish... maybe he wants to revive U6, maybe he wants to finally revive Kaiosama (King Kai), maybe he wants to meet another strong warrior but Iā€™m sure it will be something stupid.
I think Gohan will use his wish to revive all the erased universes, like a true hero, then all those beings will be redistributed among the 5 universesĀ and everyone happy.
