“Counseling through the Word” Devotional: Resolving Disputes God's Way

“Counseling through the Word” Devotional: Resolving Disputes God’s Way
In today's devotional, we delve into 1 Corinthians 6:1–11 and explore how believers are called to resolve disputes God's way. Paul challenges us to prioritize unity and reconciliation over personal rights and justice. Join us as we learn how to handle conflicts within the church, reflecting the grace and forgiveness we have received in Christ.
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:1–11
“When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers! Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Devotional Thought
In the body of Christ, how we handle disputes speaks volumes about our faith and witness to the world. Paul, in addressing the Corinthian church, was deeply concerned about believers taking their grievances to secular courts rather than resolving them within the church. He saw this as a failure of the church to live out its calling and a potential stumbling block to the testimony of the Gospel. Know who you are and your future Paul reminds the Corinthians of their identity and future role in God’s kingdom. As believers, we will one day judge the world and even angels. Given this lofty calling, we should be more than capable of resolving disputes among ourselves. Bringing our disagreements before unbelievers, Paul argues, is a shameful act that undermines our witness and brings disgrace upon the church. Prioritize unity and peace This passage challenges us to prioritize unity and peace within the body of Christ. Instead of insisting on our rights or pursuing justice through worldly means, Paul encourages us to be willing to suffer wrong rather than harm our brothers and sisters in Christ. This is a radical call to humility and self-sacrifice, rooted in the example of Christ Himself. The key to resolving disputes God’s way is to approach them with a heart of love, seeking reconciliation rather than victory. When we focus on restoring relationships rather than winning arguments, we reflect the grace and forgiveness that Christ has shown us. This doesn’t mean that sin and wrongdoing should be ignored or excused, but rather that our approach to conflict should be marked by a desire to restore and heal. You have been washed, sanctified, and justified Paul also warns against the dangers of behaving like the unrighteous, who will not inherit the kingdom of God. The behaviors he lists are not just sinful; they are indicative of a life that is out of step with the Spirit. As those who have been washed, sanctified, and justified in Christ, our lives should be marked by a distinct difference from the world, including how we handle disputes. As believers, we have been given the tools—God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, and the community of faith—to resolve conflicts in a way that honors God. By doing so, we not only preserve the unity of the church but also bear witness to the transforming power of the Gospel.
Bringing it Home: Applying What We Learned
- Reflect on how you approach disputes and conflicts. Are you more focused on being right or on being reconciled? - Consider the ways in which you can seek to resolve conflicts within the body of Christ, using the resources God has provided. - Pray for the humility and grace to be willing to suffer wrong rather than harm the unity of the church.
Prayer
Lord, help me to approach conflicts with a heart of humility and a desire for reconciliation. Give me the wisdom to resolve disputes in a way that honors You and preserves the unity of Your church. May my actions reflect the grace and forgiveness that I have received in Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Questions for Reflection
- How do I typically handle conflicts within the church? - Am I more concerned with winning an argument or restoring a relationship? - What steps can I take to ensure that my approach to disputes reflects the grace and forgiveness of Christ?

On today’s episode of 4Inspirational Minutes 4anewday in your life I delve into the road our choices lead us to. Our choices shape our path toward or away from God in life. Despite the costs of straying, God's love and mercy offer hope for better days and a chance for change and renewal. By letting go of past burdens and aligning our hearts, minds, bodies, resources, and futures with God's will, we can walk the path of faith. God patiently awaits those who humbly seek Him, offering endless mercy and love. It's never too late to turn back to Him with a repentant heart, as His faithfulness and love are steadfast. Lamentations 3:21-23 reminds us of God's unfailing love and endless mercies, bringing hope for a brighter tomorrow.

#DailyDevotion Good Stuff In, Good Fruit Out. Trash In, Trash Out

#DailyDevotion Good Stuff In, Good Fruit Out. Trash In, Trash Out Psalm 101 I will sing of kindness and justice and make music to You, O LORD. Kindness here is chesed in Hebrew. It is often translated steadfast love. It is a covenantal love based on God's promise. Mispat is the Hebrew for justice. It is of these two things the psalmist will sing and make music to the LORD. These two things establish the covenant, the relationship between the LORD and His people. It is an amazing grace the LORD called people from out of the world to establish a covenant with them and reveal His name, His character and His ways. For us it is also an amazing grace the LORD Jesus Christ revealed Himself to us and the Father's heart. 2I want to understand the perfect way. O when will You come to me? Those who trust the LORD and love Him will desire to know the LORD and His ways. If you love someone you want to know all about them. You want to do things that please the people who we love. The psalmist desires the LORD would come to Him. He is looking to be in the presence of the LORD through the priest of the prophets who bring God's word to him. Do we desire for the LORD to come to us in word and sacrament? I will live with a pure heart in my own home. 3I will not put anything wicked before my eyes. I hate what the unfaithful do; I want no part of it. 4I will stay away from crooked thoughts. I will not be friendly with evil. 5I'll silence anyone who secretly slanders his neighbor; I won't put up with anyone who looks proud and is conceited. So there are positive statements and negative things here. So he resolves himself to live with a pure heart in his home. That is a positive thing. Would that we would commit ourselves to live a pure heart at home and elsewhere. Then he proceeds to describe living a pure life in a negative way. He doesn't let wickedness come before his eyes, or let crooked thoughts remain with him. He refuses to be friendly with evil. He corrects those who break the eighth commandment. He doesn't put up with the proud and conceited. We should follow suit. We should commit ourselves to avoiding evil and wickedness in our lives. As the old saying says, “Trash in, trash come out. Good stuff in, good fruit.” If you wonder why you have continual problems falling into evil ways, ask yourself, “Am I avoiding evil and wickedness in my daily life?” Do you call evil evil? Do you let people know, especially fellow Christians, who are engaging in wickedness to stop? Put evil and wickedness out of your life and fill it with the ways of the LORD, with His word and practice it. 6I look for the faithful people in the land, so they may live with me. When anyone lives a pure life, he may serve me; 7but no one who does deceitful things shall live in my home; no one who tells lies can stay with me. 8Every morning I'll destroy all the wicked in the land, to purge the LORD's city of all who do wrong. Bad company corrupts good character. Good character builds us up. So the psalmist devotes himself to hang with faithful people, who live pure lives. He gets rid of people in his life who are deceitful. Of course on the Last Day, our King, our LORD Jesus Christ will rid the world of all wickedness and evil. We should practice that in our lives. Not that we should not call people to repent and accept them when they do. Most especially should we avoid those who call themselves Christians who live unrepentant lives, lest they deceive us to follow in their ways. Heavenly Father, grant us hearts that desire only to live in Your life and ways and purge our lives of things that are contrary to Your will. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

Behaving according to how the world sees fit does not lead to good outcomes (like sin), but behaving according to how God wants us to, it does lead to good outcomes (like helping others, charity) which are proof of how good our God and His ways are!!!!! We should try to have a mindset focused on God, not the world!!!

In case you were (not) wondering: Fiska can't be in the credits cinematic
I was curious, so I dedicated a run to try and get Fiska (the guy with godsway staff from the gaol cinematic at the beginning) to appear in the credits.

I made sure he was the only one above the "love" threshold at the end (checked with mod), but because his death is scripted in the unmoored world, and you can't resurrect him, he can not appear in the credits. Your 2nd highest affinity will show up, even if not above the "love" threshold. Which, in my case, was Wilhelmina.

Did it for science. Maybe posting it here will save someone else the trouble lol

Concession [Spoilers]
Some notes below [DD1/DA/DD2 spoilers]
DD1 really goes into detail with pawns in the Everfall and how they suffer without their Arisen, DA also does so with abandoned pawns on BBI. Seeing them in the depths of grief and depression and how they turn to hatred is making me think that there's probably no worse fate for pawns than losing their Arisen without being given proper leave or a goodbye at least. At least the ones who got it seem to be faring a little better, like Barnaby. DD2 doesn't go into further detail when it comes to your pawn and what they must've felt during your time apart. They're pretty much only glad to be reunited and that's it. At least they knew their Arisen wasn't dead, so that must've at least been somewhat of a relief. I would like to ask a pawn's opinion on whether a Godsway or losing their Arisen hurts more. I would also like to ask them about their opinions on their Arisen going against the cycle in both games, if they choose to do so. Sure their Arisen's wish is final and all, but they were only brought into existence to help their Arisen. Not all Arisen will succeed and that's a whole other interesting topic, but what would a pawn make of an Arisen who actively wants to escape it? I need something like an 'Interview with Pawns' for this one, I think. Spectre has been pretty optimistic throughout all my comics, so this would also be the only time he wouldn't have been. He may have an analytic mindset, but once he's come to a conclusion he won't easily change his mind about it. As such the conclusion he reached was correct to him, until proven wrong. In Vrains it could've saved him to be a little less arrogant about his conclusions, it would've saved him from a lot of anguish here, too. The words to Ryoken are from this comic. He would've also experienced more negative self-centred thoughts for the first time, since losing his Arisen would've meant he would've been cast out from the rift. There would've truly been no place for him in this world any more. At the same time thoughts like this just show how far he's come as a person. Otherwise he would've stoically held out for his Arisen to return, ever hopeful and optimistic. As Ryoken puts it, it's just such an understandably human situation Spectre ended up in, and this is something to be ultimately glad for, even though it came with a lot of pain. This takes place right after the world has turned and Ryoken got Spectre back from Phaesus. In unmoored a lot of areas no longer have flowing water, but fountains in Vernworth and the little stream near the dye stores in Bakbattahl are different. It might not be the cleanest, in unmoored even less so, but that's what they're using to wash off a month of gunk here.
