VINCENZO(2021)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
VINCENZO Song Joong Ki as Vincenzo Cassano / Consigliere/ Corn Salad Jeon Yeo Been as Hong Cha Young Ok Taecyeon as Jang Jun woo / Jang Hanseok Kwak Dong-Yeon as Jang Hanseo Kim Yeo Jin as Choi Myung Hee Jo Han Chul as Han Seung Hyuk Im Chulsoo as Ahn Gi Seok Yoon Byung Hee as Nam Joo-sung Choi Young Joon as Cho Young woon Kim Yoon Hye as Seo Mi ri Yang Kyung Won as Lee Chul wook Jae Myeong Yoo as Hong Yoo Chan Seo Ye Hwa as Jang Yeon Jin Yeon Bok In as Oh Gyeong Ja Choi Deok Moon as Tak Hong Shik Hang Na Lee as Kwak Hee Soo Hyung Mook Kim as Toto
Vincenzo officially ends last May 2, 2021. To be honest, I find it difficult to put in words what I felt while watching this series. It was too much but it was also too good. I was amazed on how they write the story as the beginning parallels the end. If you look deep in the story, you'll find some cultural references that have made the story deeper than it actually looks. At first, some are disappointed because when Vincenzo went to Korea, the show was full of comedies rather than actions. But I think some of the comedy parts are made to hide the dark meaning behind it. I want to commend whoever did the casting. The whole Geumga family and Babel Group casts was amazing. The director and writer maximized the use of all characters. No one was left behind. And even though it was Vincenzo-centered, hence the title, the other leads did well, too. Jeon Yeo Been and Ok Taecyeon steals the spotlight. Definitely a gamechanger. Jeon Yeo Been's character was constant throughout the whole series. Unlike any other strong female characters who became weak when they fell in love and eventually became reliant to their male partner, Hong Cha Young remains independent and fierce. Hong Cha Young is what the patriarchal society hates. She's loud, outspoken, strong, and consistent. She have shown her weakness and frustrations, making her character real. But it doesn't stop her on achieving her goals. Even if she's in danger, she's brave and can stand on her own. Jeon Yeo Been portrays her very well. As for Taecyeon, he did great, too. Jang Jun Woo is such a cutie and I'll miss his curly hair. But Jang Han Seok brought something different. His character was stressful and I was amazed on how Taecyeon portrays him. Taecyeon can differentiate Jun Woo to Hanseok. Actually, Taecyeon broke the stereotype of idols who can't act. Taecyeon CAN and he was amazing. This character is very different on what he usually plays. Hope he will have another project with Yeo Been because their chemistry was great. I just don't ship them together because he was a villain. When Hanseok said he loves Chayoung, it felt dry. They actually hinted that Hanseok loves Chayoung at first few episodes(when he got angry to Hanseo because he tried to harm Chayoung) but they removed it in the later episodes. I thought that they finally dismissed that idea because it will contradict on Hanseok's heartless character. Furthermore, if you are someone who wants to watch or expecting a lovestory, this might frustrates you. Because the love of the two leads was slow but this power couple won't disappoint you. I also want to praised the other villains in the story. Its great to see that they can keep up with Vincenzo.  AND GEUMGA FAMILY THE BEST!!!!!
WARNING: SPOILER ALERT Some says that the ending was brutal. But for me, they executed it just right. Remember, Vincenzo is a mafia. The villains can bend the law and kills whoever is in their way. No justice system can punish them for what they did. And can we talk about how they die? Attorney Han was stabbed because he was a backstabber. Myunghee died in fire while a Zumba song was playing. If you remember, she was dancing while Lawyer Hong Yoo Chan was announced dead in the television. And Hanseok? He died with no one knows where he is, the thing he was most afraid of. Plus, that spear of atonement, it pierced his heart eventhough he didn't have one. In the end, his flesh was eaten by a vulture. I am confused if that part was intentionally did by Vincenzo, hence, the he have the book on how to befriend or not. To be honest, these villains was actually a coward when they don't have a gun with them. Or when you remove their power. They are no match with Vincenzo who calculates everything and 100 steps ahead. The dumbest thing they did was to kill Vincenzo's mom. They just removed his weakness and provoke him. They deserved their death. The death of Hanseo was the most undeserved of all deaths that have happened (eventhough it was already foreseen). He deserved better. His character development must be commended. Although, I don't think Hanseok plan to kill him. He was just provoked on what Hanseo said (not deserved to be born) because it is what his father is always implying into him. And to Chayoung, too. I don't think he plan to kill Chayoung. The bullet was actually for Vincenzo. Lastly, Vincenzo did also received a punishment for all he did. It was difficult for him to go back to Korea, where his love one was. It was actually a torture for him because his love interest was away from him. Love how in the end, the writer and director didn't sugarcoat his character. He was still evil. An antihero. And I love him for that.
LASTLY, I want to thank all the fans and viewers of Vincenzo. All of you who made the theories left and right. When the 2 weeks drought came, a lot of you filled the gap. It was such nice to see a very great fandom! Will miss this weekend drama with all of you!!!
I'll give this drama a 1 million over ten!!! Recommended!!!!

December Dramas
It’s the end of the year!! Let’s see what we have for the last month of 2019!
Pegasus Market
Tumblr media
The drama that will make no sense but at least it has only 12 episodes.
“Pegasus Market” is a drama about a market that everyone goes to when they are close to being fired and one day one of the best employees of DM company is sent there.
The market changes completely as new ideas forms in Jung Bok Dong’s head as he tries to bankrupt the DM company but it becomes more and more successful over time.
What this drama really gave us is the chance to see Kim Byung Chul in a completely different role.
He is always acting more serious and scary roles like the one in “Sky Castle” but here you will see him dancing, wearing sunflowers and doing the most ridiculous stuff.
This is comedy-drama and it is fun to watch but the episodes contain the same scheme: Bok Dong thinks of something new, the manager opposes, Bok Dong still does it and it becomes a new sell-out thing. This scheme is fun to watch in the first episodes but not the whole drama.
The good thing about this drama is that when it aired it was 1 time a week. That’s why I continued with it plus it only had 12 episodes. So one our of nonsense writing is not that bad.
Overall, it’s entertaining and sometimes brought sad topics into the play, it is an okay drama (at least until you see the last episode).
6/10
Catch The Ghost
Tumblr media
WARNING: If you really like this drama be ready for boiled blood and me smashing this drama to pieces. Sorry, not sorry.
The drama is about police officer Yoo Ryung who is searching for her sister, police investigating and trying to catch “Subway Ghost” as well as “Grasshoppers”.
It also has some romantic bits with main characters, so if you wanna watch an investigative drama with a little bit of romance it may be for you.
I don’t usually bring screenwriters into the play even if the writing is bad but this drama had lots of mistakes especially with police work.
The show had two screenwriters Lee Young Joo and So Won and you would think that they would do a better job in research as there are two of them but sadly no.
But it’s forgivable, I guess because they are newbies in the industry. I just wanted to say that it was really frustrating to watch. So, please, writers, do some research on the topics you write about (watch me one day write a drama which has million plot holes).
Another thing that made me mad is that I did not care about any of the characters except for Ko Ji Seok and Madona with Kang Soo Ho.
Ko Ji Seok was such an interesting character, to see how he gave up everything just for his mother. His whole story was so sad to watch and made me cry a lot.
I wish I could talk about Madona and Soo Ho but they didn’t have any more episodes together and there is nothing to talk about.
I don’t know what I disliked more Moon Geun Young (the actress) or Yoo Ryung (her character). The only face she has is the sad eyebrows face and even when she smiles, acts surprised it was the same facial expression.
Ma Ri (ex-girlfriend) was the pain in the ass, Kim Woo Hyun (policeman) was just eye candy and I wish we could’ve seen more of Lee Man Jin (”dad”) as I love the actor.
So the question is... Why did I watch the drama if I hated so many things?
The reason is because of other people. They seemed so excited about every episode and I wanted to be like them and like the drama forgetting about the plot holes or characters I dislike. But this drama and I just wasn’t meant to be.
5/10
Vip
Tumblr media
You know actors did an amazing job on the drama when the viewers start to send them hateful comments because they portray the character so realistically. (not saying they should do that because that’s just stupid as it’s only the character)
It’s mostly about the man who cheats on his wife and how everything changes from that moment. But this drama also has more stories of other women, Lee Hyuna and Song Mina.
The drama is great but sometimes so hard to watch as you feel anger towards the character and the choices they made throughout the drama.
What made me sad the most that mostly at the end of the drama they started showing other people lives and how they are. Loved that part but I wish they would’ve done that a bit sooner.
Another thing that I was scared about was the ending but I’m quite happy with how they wrapped everything up (a true Christmas present).
Oh, this drama also shows a bit of sexual abuse in the working place and what the women have to go through and my biggest applause goes to them when they stood out for themselves even if that could hurt them.
It’s so hard to talk about the drama without spoiling anything, for example, I can’t really talk who was the woman to cheat with the main lead or how everything went on when they found out because it would be major spoilers and we don’t want that here.
That is why I’ll just say that it is a really good drama if you want some angst and sadness in your life. It can drain a lot of emotions but I think it is worth.
9/10
Overprotected Kahoko
Tumblr media
The title says literally everything about this drama. The main character Kahoko is extremely spoiled and doesn’t know how to do things by herself but she slowly learns about the world from Hajime.
It was so frustrating to watch the first two episodes and I thought about dropping it (but it only has 10 episodes).
The female lead was the one that I was angry about, she talked in the third person about herself, she couldn’t do anything and even had to ask her mom what to wear... But later on, I guess she grew on me.
She started to learn and we could see that she feels everyone emotionally, knows when something is wrong and tries to help them by all means.
What was really weird to see that her father imagined everyone as some kind of animal. It fit everyone except for himself, he’s definitely not a lion.
The couple was cute and how they tried to solve problems together. The family was interesting to watch too but I’ve got bored with one of the aunts who was always like: “I’m going to break up with my husband because I saw a black cat”.
The drama wasn’t bad and also a bit different when others. Where else would we see an overprotected character who tries to become more independent?
7.5/10

my top 10 favorite kdrama’s
In no particular oder
W Two Words
This is my favorite Kdrama, I don’t know why it just it.
Tumblr media
It’s Okay Thats Love
A lot of people skipped this drama which is a shame.  It does a wonderful job of handling mental illness in many different forms.  I recommend this to everyone I talk to about kdrama’s.
Tumblr media
Angry Mom
The thing I love most about this drama is that the mother daughter relationship is the most important thing in the show. This is one of the rare shows where I shipped a character with two people. If Jo Gang-Ja / Jo Bang-Wool had actually been 16 I would have loved for her to end up with Ko Bok-Dong.  But since she was in her 30′s I hopped she would end up with Park No-A (the teacher).
Tumblr media
Decedents Of The Sun
I honestly didn’t want to like this drama.  I have an aversion to popular things.  I decided to give it a try and was instantly hooked.
Tumblr media
Moonlight Drawn By Clouds
I thought it was okay at first but then I realized I couldn’t stop thinking about it which to me makes it a success.
Tumblr media
Oh My Venus
I watched it because I needed to watch a feel good comedy.  It delivered.  yes there are a few dark points but this is honestly comedy gold.  Henry Lau is perfect.
Tumblr media
Goblin The Great and Lonely God
This drama is the epitome of ‘I came here to have a good time and honestly I’m feeling really attacked right now’.  Despite that I love it.  This is one of the few dramas where I liked all the main characters and even shipped the second couple.
Tumblr media
Legend of The Deep Blue Sea
They had me at mermaids and soul mates.  How could I not love it.
Tumblr media
Goong: Princess Palace Hours
It was the first Kdrama I ever watched.  Therefor no matter how cringe worthy it is I will always love it.
Tumblr media
Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok-joo
I felt lighter after watching this.  The couple is so sweet and the characters are hilarious.  It was also nice seeing a leading lady doing something “unladylike” and still getting the guy.
Tumblr media
Runners up:
Healer
I hated the ending.  It was so corny.  Other then that.  Perfect.
Tumblr media
Scarlet Heart Ryeo
As much as I love this drama the ending pisses me off.  Also I spent a lot of time hating many of the character.  I wish I could just take my favorite characters out and put them somewhere nice so they could be happy.
Tumblr media
Cheese in The Trap
It didn’t make the list because the ending pisses me off.
Tumblr media
Bonus: Running Man
Since Running Man is technically a variety show and not a drama it cannot go on the list.  But it would hold the number 2 spot if it could.  It is my favorite show hands down.

kdramas that everyone should watch
Playful Kiss
:) this drama has a special place in my heart
i found playful kiss because i had just finished the anime adaptation(which is really good, pls check it out its called itazura na kiss)
basically female lead is dumb as rocks but she has a crush on cold male lead who is really hot and extremely smart
her house collapses in an earthquake and male leads family are friends with her dad, so they move into male leads house aaaaand you can assume what happens
very sweet and lighthearted although sometimes you wish female lead would give up on male lead cause he’s super rude and shes THAT stubborn
Boys Over Flowers
idk why you wouldnt know about this one
kinda overrated but really good overall
girl starts going to rich kid school and cold male rich lead falls in love with her
this drama is why i love Lee Min Ho
some parts might make you angry cause male lead can be infuriatingly selfish
took me forever to finish
Heartstrings
my girl park shin hye is in this and shes cute as hell
male lead is cold and hot (i love cold guys)
basically playful kiss except girl isnt dumb and theres music
solid OST
Pretty Man
this drama invented melodrama lol
like its SUCH a soap opera sometimes
but also its cute
it took me a couple tries to get through it
IU is in it and shes basically the heart of this show
male lead is unbelievably hot as the title insinuates
IU loves male lead but he could really care less
then his mom dies and shit hits the fan quick
basically he has to seduce women and build a business to get this passcode thing his mom left behind
spoilers
male lead is actually in love with IU’s character Bo Tong the whole show but it takes him forever to realize it
i love IU
Shining Inheritance
SUCH AN UNDERRATED DRAMA
basically the same idea as Boys Over Flowers but they’re graduated
kind of melodramatic
male lead is typical cold guy (lol)
female lead becomes poor after her dad ‘dies’ and then her autistic brother goes missing and this poor girl omg i feel for her she goes through SO MUCH
somewhere in the drama she becomes an heir to another families fortune and male lead is PISSED (as is the rest of his family)
side characters are really annoying ngl
i watched this drama really fast
its so good
The Heirs
this drama is BASICALLY Shining Inheritance and Boys Over Flowers combined
but minus all the stupid parts and drawn out storylines
park shin hye AND lee min ho are in it
they’re the leads
i lowkey got second male lead syndrome but got over it cause <3 <3 <3 Lee Min Ho
male lead isnt as cold as the previous male leads mentioned but he isnt super nice either
Strong Woman Bo Dong Soon
if i could rewatch this drama a hundred times i would
if this show doesnt make you melt and giggle like a child you arent human
male lead is unbelievably cute
and female lead is so so so cute too
the love triangle is actually tolerable unlike the dramas previously listed
i love the male lead in this one tho so much
bo dong soon (our female lead) is super strong and male lead is a CEO so he hires bo dong to be his bodyguard
EVEN THOUGH HE HAS HIRED HER AS A BODYGUARD HE STILL TRIES TO PROTECT HER DESPITE HER BEING UNBELIEVABLY STRONG
its also SO FUNNY ive never laughed so hard watching a drama
the chemistry between the leads are tangible i swear to god i cant
mamamoo sings a song for the ost ;)
Cinderella and The Four Knights
the second drama to actually make me cry
overall a really cute show
i dont understand the ads for this show tho cause dramafever advertised it as like a sequel to Boys Over Flowers but ITS NOTHING like Boys Over Flowers
she lives with her stepmom and stepsister who suck
and then her dad kicks her out after a wicked plot twist
so this ceo guy is like “move in with my grandsons they are awful people you can help them but dont date them”
so you KNOW from the get-go she’s gonna have to date one of them!
so theres three male leads
one cold rebellious guy (ha)
the rich spoiled brat
and the nice one whose a singer
also theres the butler dude but he isnt really romantically linked to female lead, hes just a chill dude who has his own storyline (WHICH MAKES YOU WANNA SCREAM)
cannot stand the side romance in this between two characters i wont name
second female lead gets on my nerves
however, the main romance, i eat that shit up
it takes a while for them to get together but totally worth and hella cute
i adore this ost???? so much????
on the lowest of keys i had second male lead syndrome
Scarlet Heart: Ryeo
this drama destroyed my will to live
its SO SAD
i’d explain the plot but its complicated and very convoluted
i dont really like historical dramas but i LOVED this one
also
IU is in it :)
OST is the greatest ever
WE NEED A SEASON 2
spoiler: ending will make you wanna die
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
idk why this did bad in Korea
but im happy its gained a lot of popularity recently
its so so so cute
the relationship is so loving
both leads have such GOOD chemistry together
the plot seems simple: she’s a weightlifter and he swims and they were childhood friends uh kind of
then they hit you with that heavy shit
you just have to watch

Sao Hàn bị tố cáo bắt nạt, quấy rối tình dục bạn học
Tumblr media

Anh góp mặt trong loạt phim Người tình ánh trăng, Chuyện tình bác sĩ, Cô nàng cử tạ Kim Bok Joo, Cô nàng mạnh mẽ Do Bong Soon, Bad Guys 2... Nhờ khả năng diễn xuất tốt, ngoại hình sáng với chiều cao 1,86 m, anh được mệnh danh là "nam phụ quốc dân" của màn ảnh xứ Hàn.

While watching this drama, I thought about what it would be like if my own mother disguised herself and showed up at my high school. I concluded it would be a huge disaster since I went to boarding school, and there’s no way she would be able to pull that off. As you watch Angry Mom, you’ll start asking yourself in which universe is any of this possible?
Tumblr media
My answer is, welcome to K-drama world.
Anyway, after you’ve accepted the female lead character’s decision to enroll in her daughter’s school, the plot becomes even more interesting as she - Jo Gang Ja/Jo Bang Wool - begins to play the part of a highschooler. But let’s backtrack to what influenced such decision in the first place, by introducing a few key characters.
Tumblr media
Bullies. No one likes them, but in some cases, they need help too.
Anyway, Jo Gang Ja’s daughter Oh Ah Ran, is having a really tough time at school, most of us have been through something similar, and what this plot does is showcase how far a mother will go to protect her child. So now Jo Gang Ja transforms into Jo Bang Wool, and let me tell you, this transfer student isn’t someone who should be taken lightly.
Tumblr media
As soon as Jo Gang Ja gets to school, she wastes no time in seeking out the truth, as she wants to know which students are bullying her daughter. Now if you’re uncomfortable with violence, there may be some scenes which you won’t be able to stomach, and while answering violence with violence gets you nowhere, Jo Gang Ja shows how tough she is by taking on the three bullies. As a viewer, a feeling of satisfaction will wash over you as Jo Gang Ja dishes out the justice, and puts these kids in their place.
I’m a bit uncomfortable with adults using violence against children, but...
Tumblr media
...they kinda deserved it.
The thing about Angry Mom is that it gives off an impression of the characters just throwing their fists around, however as the plot thickens the drama takes an entirely different course when we see evidence of manipulation, and schemes in the drama. Jo Gang Ja and her daughter are now on a hunt for justice as it becomes more apparent that Jin Yi Gyeong’s - Oh Ah Ran’s friend - death was as a result of some form of foul play, and not a suicide.
The speculation leads to Jo Gang Ja playing her role as Jo Bang Wool until the real killer is brought to justice, and all the students involved are safe from the clutches of their manipulator. As such, the suspense picks up and the lighter episodes are soon forgotten as you’ll be pulled into the storyline while anticipating what comes next. Jo Gang Ja is able to juggle being a mother as well as a student perfectly, and the determination that she portrays will have you rooting for her until the very end.
Tumblr media
I want to touch on the relationship between Jo Gang Ja and Oh Ah Ran for a bit, during the opening sequence and the episodes which follow, you’ll see where Oh Ah Ran is a bit closed off as she doesn’t share anything with her mother. Oh Ah Ran’s being bullied in school, and her friend’s slowly falling victim to a major manipulator, and while these two things are very serious, Oh Ah Ran chooses to suffer in silence as she keeps her feelings to herself.
You’ll see a bit of irony here, as Jo Gang Ja is one ahjumma that shouldn’t be messed with, however the tough, strong mother that is portrayed, is having difficulty connecting to her daughter. Not only that, but you’ll see a few scenes where Oh Ah Ran uses an unexceptable tone while addressing her mother. Frustration will hit you at first, as you’ll want Oh Ah Ran to see that her mother is trying to help her, however as the mother-daughter couple experiences a classmate-type of friendship, Oh Ah Ran will start to trust her mother even more, and in doing so their relationship will grow stronger.
Seriously guys, talk to your parents, they’ll have your back no matter what.
Tumblr media
The casting for Angry Mom was perfectly done, and so the chemistry between the characters resulted in this drama being a success. As the scenes matriculate from fighting bullies, to earning your former enemy’s trust, to confessing your feelings, and eventually to building a solid foundation between characters; you’ll see that Angry Mom isn’t short on the few elements which makes most hit dramas stand out. The plot developed smoothly, and therefore you’ll have a chance of experiencing how each character develops, as well as changes into a better version of him/herself.
Tumblr media
Kim Hee Sun plays the characters of Jo Gang Ja and Jo Bang Wool, a loving mother/transfer student, who possesses such a fighting spirit and a caring heart. Kim Hee Sun is one of South Korea’s most popular actresses as not only has she done TV dramas in her home country, but she was chosen for roles in Chinese films as well. You can find Kim Hee Sun in The Lady In Dignity and Wonderful Days.
Tumblr media
Ji Hyun Woo plays the character of Park No Ah, the bright yet somewhat clueless homeroom teacher, who in actuality is one of the few persons in this drama, who has the students’ best interest at heart. Park No Ah’s character is such a breath of fresh air and so he stands out against all the drama occurring around him. Ji Hyun Woo executed his role really well, so go ahead and check him out in Bad Thief, Good Thief and Wanted.
Tumblr media
Kim Yoo Jung plays the character of Oh Ah Ran, a girl who is faced with a different situation each day, but due to her inner strength, she’s able to pull through. It’s no doubt that Kim Yoo Jung is one of the most talented actresses in K-drama world, therefore she pulled off the role of Oh Ah Ran really well, and in doing so I don’t think any other actress could carry out such a feat. You can check out Kim Yoo Jung in Love in the Moonlight, and keep an eye out for her upcoming drama Clean With Passion For Now.
Tumblr media
Ji Soo plays the role of Ko Bok Dong, who not only happens to be a bully, but he later becomes Jo Bang Wool’s love interest, as he develops a crush on her. Yeah, weird. Ko Bok Dong went through a major character development as he later changed his ways and in doing so was able to turn over a new leaf towards the end of the drama. Ji Soo is, super-talented-hands-down, and so he played his role really well. You can catch up with Ji Soo in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (check out my review) and check him out in the movie One Way Trip (prepare tissues).
Tumblr media
Baro, a member of the K-pop group B1A4, played the role of Hong Sang Tae, who at first seemed to be a very annoying person, but then his schoolboy crush on Oh Ah Ran started to grow into deeper feelings, and so he later transformed his personality. Baro is no stranger to the screen, and so he’s able to separate his actor-self from his idol-self (get it?) Baro’s talent and skills are also portrayed in the dramas Manhole, and Reply 1994, so go ahead and check them out.
Angry Mom and the actors/actresses associated with this drama did win some awards:
2015 APAN Star Awards
Best actress - Kim Hee Sun
     2. 2015 MBC Drama Awards
Ten Star Award - Kim Hee Sun, Kim Yoo Jung

Angry Mom was directed by Ashbun who worked on Missing Nine and Hotel King. Kim Ban Di who debuted as a screenwriter with the script for Angry Mom.

Note
Do you have any kdrama recommendations? I want to watch another Miss oh but could also use some other recs. Thank you and p.s. I love your writing, thank you for sharing them with us ☺️
I have TONS of kdrama recs! Under the cut because it got long.
1) Signal (16 episodes) - I enjoyed this so much, but it’s another one of those shows where you’re either automatically into it starting from episode 1 or not at all. I cried so hard at so many places because some of the storylines/events hit close to home. Fantastic acting, fantastic script, amazing direction… This had everything I ever wanted in a drama. It made me miserable at times in the best way. There was never a wasted moment. Also, I fell in love with ALL THREE OF THE MAIN LEADS.
2) Reply 1988 (20 episodes) - Great storytelling. Also, I know everyone had SO MANY issues with the whole romance portion, but it was never the writer’s intention to have the focus of this season be about who the husband was. This drama was hilarious at times, and there were so many moments where I had to pause so I could laugh without missing anything. This drama is particularly special to me because I watched it with mom and she pointed all the 80s stuff and we #bonded lol.
3) Heartless City (20 episodes) - Noir done medium rare. It was visually pleasing to watch and Jung Kyungho… TTTT i’m a SUCKER okay. I’ve literally liked him since I was in high school, sue me! Anyway, I have a MAJOR issue with how they handled the main female protagonist’s story and the romance because it could have been perfect had they done a specific thing differently but… *shrugs* it was still good.
4) Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People (30 episodes) - Literally the Hong Gil Dong legend has been done to death, but I’ll never get tired of it. Fun fact: I actually really don’t like historical dramas with few notable exceptions. This was great though because the writers set the backstory of Hong Gildong to mesh with Yeonsangun. Also, there was a specific brotherly moment that made me weep so hard while I was watching this eating dinner with my parents. And the DIALOGUE IN THIS. THE DIALOGUE. Oh my goddd, the oneliners are brilliant and it’s a historical drama!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
One last thing about this drama: I probably have a serious emotional attachment to this drama because of actual events that were happening in Korea. I doubt the writers were truly intending to have the timing of the show fit so well with real life events, but one of the best lines of this drama was “We don’t need to change the king’s mind. We just need to change the king.”
5) High School King of Savvy (17 episodes) - I cautiously recommend this because of the whole minor/adult relationship. Also, I love Seo Inguk
6) Squad 38 (16 episodes) - another Seo Inguk drama! I love him! The humor in this show is amazing. The title itself is a portmanteau. 38사기동대 is pronounced “38 sagidongdae.” “Sagi” means scam and “Gidongdae” means unit/task force, and they put it together alksfjasdk! A tax collector goes around scamming rich tax evaders into paying their taxes. And that’s all I’m going to say about this drama because I want you to watch it.
7) Misaeng (16 episodes) - as an office worker, I #relate. Not much in the way of a story, but more character focused. It’s so good. It’s also really heavy stuff, so it can get really depressing to watch.
8) Liar Game (12 episodes) - WHERE IS SEASON 2!? This drama was based on a manga. I never read the manga, but this drama was pretty good!!! There’s also scamming in this.
9) Oh My Ghostess! (16 episodes) - Park Boyoung plays a timid girl who gets possessed by ghosts, and Kim Seulgi plays a spunky ghost who has no recollection of how she died. Romance and Supernatural. There’s also a cooking element. (I literally wanted to write a ghost possession au just because of this show.) Bear in mind that this drama was super funny at times, but it also had really dark moments.
10) Splash Splash Love (2 episodes) - that’s right. 2 Episodes. Just Watch This if you don’t watch anything else on this list. It’s fusion historical, but it’s saved because Kim Seulgi is so funny.
11) Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju (16 episodes) - it’s the lighthearted, coming-of-age rom-com I wanted after heavy dramas made me weak and emo.
12) Let’s Eat Season 1 - I’m specifically recommending season 1 because I disliked season 2 so much. Season 1 had everything - food porn, mystery, romance, and did I mention the food????
13) My Daughter Seoyoung (50ish episodes? I think?) - It’s been a long while since I’ve seen this drama, but it was so much fun to watch. It’s one of those typical kdramas where an honest conversation would solve a lot of problems, but the acting makes it still enjoyable to watch and suspend your disbelief. Lee Boyoung and Lee Sangyoon had really good chemistry.
14) Second Time Twenty Years Old (16 eps?) - Moral of the story: Be Good To Your Mom! It was such a heartwarming drama. Also, Choi Jiwoo is gorgeous. Like backing up a second, I found like a ridiculous amount of similarities between the main character in this drama and my mom, so obviously I’m rooting for the main character like 234235%.
15) Who Are You—School 2015 (16 eps) - don’t be fooled. despite this being a “high school” setting drama, don’t take it lightly. I thought everyone acted really well and made this fun to watch. Bullying Is Bad!
16) High Society - Park Hyungsik but it was handled in such a tongue-in-cheek way that you could forgive it INSTANTLY.
17) Strong Woman Do Bongsoon (16 eps) - Park Boyoung AND Park Hyungsik AND Ji Soo. (But no really, this drama was so cute and I fell in love with Park Boyoung all over again.)
18) Scent of a Woman (i forget how many eps. probably 16) - This is one of the CLASSICS. Woman-With-Terminal-Illness-Wants-To-Go-Through-Bucket-List. Romance Ensues. But it’s handled with such grace and depth in storytelling.
19) Angry Mom (16 eps?) - suspend your disbelief for a second and imagine that your mom enrolls in your high school to find out who your bully is and then beat the ever loving shit out of them. :’) This show actually addresses some heavy topics.
20) Valid Love (20 eps) - this show was fucking depressing and only watch it if you’re in the mood to get real emo real quick. I honestly had no idea what this drama was about going into it. All I saw were teasers for the main three characters, and I thought it was going to be about a drama regarding infidelity or a love triangle. Boy Was I Wrong. Infidelity was a big part of the drama, but it’s not the kind you’re expecting.
21) Yong Pal (16 eps? maybe? i dont remember lol) - i fucking LOVE revenge dramas. Kim Taehee in red lipstick and REVENGE REVENGE REVENGE. It has a weak third act, but I’ll forgive it considering KIM TAEHEE IN RED LIPSTICK.
I am tired, so here are the rest without my lame opinions:
22) It’s Okay, It’s Love
23) Pinocchio
24) I Can Hear Your Voice
25) Healer
26) Witch’s Romance
27) Discovery of Romance
28) Kill Me Heal Me
29) Can We Love?
30) Fight My Way

Character Secrets: Lessons from Angry Mom
Tumblr media
[No Spoilers]
Although many K-dramas (and novels, comics, etc) make use of secrets to increase tension between characters, Angry Mom is interesting because uncovering secrets is the main thing driving the plot forward.
The drama is about a tough mom whose daughter is bullied at school, so she poses as a student at her daughter’s high school to figure out who the bully is and stop them. She ends up discovering who they are and the reason why her daughter was bullied, which goes beyond simple high school drama.
In this drama, every main character has a secret of some kind and many have multiple secrets. The characters spend the whole drama trying to uncover others’ secrets and use them against them while hiding their own. Since secrets are involved, naturally deception and betrayal are as well.
The Key: Secrets Have Consequences
The main lesson I took away from this drama is that a good secret is one that has consequences if revealed. This is why all good secrets involve at least one other character. When that character finds out, it affects their relationship, and character relationships affect the plot.
For example (this is not one of the secrets in this drama), character A stole a ring from character B and A and B are friends. When A finds out that B stole the ring, A will be angry and perhaps begin to stop trusting B (the level of A’s reaction depends on the kind of relationship they have and how much A cares about the ring and what B did with the ring). So how can this affect the plot? Well, maybe A now wants the ring back and has to go find it because B sold it. Or maybe A does something to B in revenge.
Deception and betrayal can play a role in the consequences too. In order to keep a secret, you must deceive (if you readily tell everyone your secret and make no effort to hide it, then it’s not a secret). Betrayal (revealing someone else’s secret) is optional of course, but it’s one possible reaction to uncovering a secret. The more a character lies, deceives and betrays another, the more it affects their relationship because it breeds distrust and possibly anger, hatred and/or a desire for revenge.
Use a Variety of Secrets
Another takeaway from the drama is to use a variety of secrets. Not every secret has to be intense and world-changing. Some are crimes, some are just shameful (but not illegal). Some are the result of past actions (before the drama takes place) or current actions (during the drama). Some revolve around the connection one has with another (i.e. they don’t want others to know that they’re involved with a certain person).
In the example above, the secret isn’t that intense. One way to measure the intensity of a secret is by how many people it would affect and how big the consequences would be if revealed.
A low intensity secret would be the example above, especially if the ring isn’t that important and the secret only affects the relationship between A and B. A medium intensity secret would be having an affair, which typically affects, friends and family. A high intensity secret would be murder. It might not directly affect many people, but the consequences are huge because it’s illegal.
How to Use Secrets
If you want to include secrets in your story, you can consider:
the secret itself
other characters involved in the secret
the consequences if revealed (factor in intensity & relationships)
the characters affected by keeping and revealing the secret
how the character might deceive others and the consequences of that
how another who discovers the secret might betray the character and the consequences of that
Example: Posing as a Student [Spoilers]
The most obvious secret that’s given even in the description is that the mom is posing as a high school student. It is a relatively serious secret that affects the mom’s relationship with just about everyone: her family, her friends, the students, teachers and administration.
I filled out the bullet points above for this secret:
Secret: mom posing as high school student
Characters involved: friend (Han Gong-joo) who forges her documents, gets her into the school and poses as her mother
Consequences: getting kicked out of the school, she could go to jail for forgery, losing face for herself and her family, family tries to get her to withdraw from school, possible divorce, family (and others who find out) must keep the secret too
Characters affected: her daughter, husband, mother-in-law, friend (Han Gong-joo), students (mainly Go Bok-dong), teachers (mainly Park No-ah and Do Jeong-woo), and every other main character (politicians, administration, people from her past, etc)
Deception: lies to teacher about her parents and where she lives, lies about her daughter’s mother, lies to her husband and mother-in-law about where she goes during the day
Betrayal: old friend who finds out (Joo Ae-yeon) reveals the secret to the whole school and reporters
