I think most of us should take the whole ai scraping situation as a sign that we should maybe stop giving google/facebook/big corps all our data and look into alternatives that actually value your privacy.
i know this is easier said than done because everybody under the sun seems to use these services, but I promise you it’s not impossible. In fact, I made a list of a few alternatives to popular apps and services, alternatives that are privacy first, open source and don’t sell your data.
right off the bat I suggest you stop using gmail. it’s trash and not secure at all. google can read your emails. in fact, google has acces to all the data on your account and while what they do with it is already shady, I don’t even want to know what the whole ai situation is going to bring. a good alternative to a few google services is skiff. they provide a secure, e3ee mail service along with a workspace that can easily import google documents, a calendar and 10 gb free storage. i’ve been using it for a while and it’s great.
a good alternative to google drive is either koofr or filen. I use filen because everything you upload on there is end to end encrypted with zero knowledge. they offer 10 gb of free storage and really affordable lifetime plans.
google docs? i don’t know her. instead, try cryptpad. I don’t have the spoons to list all the great features of this service, you just have to believe me. nothing you write there will be used to train ai and you can share it just as easily. if skiff is too limited for you and you also need stuff like sheets or forms, cryptpad is here for you. the only downside i could think of is that they don’t have a mobile app, but the site works great in a browser too.
since there is no real alternative to youtube I recommend watching your little slime videos through a streaming frontend like freetube or new pipe. besides the fact that they remove ads, they also stop google from tracking what you watch. there is a bit of functionality loss with these services, but if you just want to watch videos privately they’re great.
if you’re looking for an alternative to google photos that is secure and end to end encrypted you might want to look into stingle, although in my experience filen’s photos tab works pretty well too.
oh, also, for the love of god, stop using whatsapp, facebook messenger or instagram for messaging. just stop. signal and telegram are literally here and they’re free. spread the word, educate your friends, ask them if they really want anyone to snoop around their private conversations.
regarding browser, you know the drill. throw google chrome/edge in the trash (they really basically spyware disguised as browsers) and download either librewolf or brave. mozilla can be a great secure option too, with a bit of tinkering.
if you wanna get a vpn (and I recommend you do) be wary that some of them are scammy. do your research, read their terms and conditions, familiarise yourself with their model. if you don’t wanna do that and are willing to trust my word, go with mullvad. they don’t keep any logs. it’s 5 euros a month with no different pricing plans or other bullshit.
lastly, whatever alternative you decide on, what matters most is that you don’t keep all your data in one place. don’t trust a service to take care of your emails, documents, photos and messages. store all these things in different, trustworthy (preferably open source) places. there is absolutely no reason google has to know everything about you.
do your own research as well, don’t just trust the first vpn service your favourite youtube gets sponsored by. don’t trust random tech blogs to tell you what the best cloud storage service is β€” they get good money for advertising one or the other. compare shit on your own or ask a tech savvy friend to help you. you’ve got this.

How do we work on an order?

After I discuss the content of the painting with you and receive additional materials (photo of the person that is drawn, or references that are close to what you would like to see in particularly), I start creating the first sketch.
In accordance with the request, I make a sketch of the future painting, which will contain all its important elements and an approximate color scheme that we will use. At this stage, you can freely make your amendments, and when the content suits you, I will ask you for an advance payment of half the cost of the work without additional prices of background or detailing.
After that, work on the portrait will begin. Its duration varies on several factors - to a greater extent on the volume and complexity of the work itself, as well as on my own workload with other projects.
After completing the portrait, I will send you its version in lowered quality - after you familiarize yourself with it (there is also possible some edits - of tones and colors, elements of shading, character's features and general small details), and after you pay the rest of the amount you shall receive the final result of our artwork! ~

My Gender is [NOT] Human Zine is Now Accepting Submissions!
Xenogender: A gender that cannot be contained by human understandings of gender; more concerned with crafting other methods of gender categorization and hierarchy such as those relating to animals, plants, or other creatures/things.
This zine will be a collection of artwork, writing and more created by alterhumans and nonhumans to express both their species identity, gender, and how they intersect. While this zine will have an xenogender slant, everyone who has something to share about how their species and gender overlap are encouraged to submit pieces! Similarly, if you are currently questioning, you are still welcome to participate. Anonymous submissions are accepted.
What Can I Submit?
Both fiction and nonfiction pieces are accepted. As long as what you have in mind fits the theme, it’ll probably be a-ok.Β

Submission Guidelines
Each individual may submit up to 3 works to be featured in My Gender is [NOT] Human. Comics and multi-image works count as one piece. Individuals within a system may each submit up to 3 works. All work must be your own! Anyone caught plagiarizing or submitting AI-generated work will be barred from entering My Gender is [NOT] Human and any future zines from us.
Written submissions should not exceed 30 pages and multi-part art entries should not exceed 10 pages. Please keep in mind the zine’s pages will be 8.5x11 and entries will be scaled accordingly to fit that size. We request all art submissions to be sent in either .jpg or .png file formats.Β 
For stories that use multiple different fonts, we will do our best to preserve the general β€œfeel” of your piece but cannot guarantee we will be able to use the exact fonts or sizes due to restrictions in what fonts we have access to, readability and overarching zine style.

Q: Where will the zine be hosted? What will it cost? A: The zine will be hosted digitally on our itch.io and will be free to download. Our itch.io can be found here: https://ruffledgryphon.itch.io/
Q: Is there a cap on submissions? A: There is none, as long as the file doesn’t start getting too big for our computer we’ll do our best! If there are an unprecedented amount of submissions, we may have to delay the release. In the event that happens, we would communicate that through updates on our tumblr.
Q: Can I update my application after it’s been submitted? A: Yes you may, as long as that is communicated to us before the submission deadline.
Q: Can I rescind my submission? A: Yes you may, as long as that is communicated to us before the submission deadline. Alright everypony, this is me asking anyone interested to put down any time slots that you'd be willing to attend VERY PREFERABLY on LettuceMeet (it adjusts timezones automatically) so I can figure out the best time/day to host!
Who's allowed? Anyone! Animal regressors, age regressors, dreamers, caregivers, flips, syskids and anyone else interested! As long as you are kind and respectful!

It's essentially a chatroom but with cute, customisable avatars! There are NO in-game purchases and any cool features you see on other peoples ponies are made by that player! There are lot's of fun and cute areas where you can explore, chat and roleplay.
What do I need? How do I get started?
All you need is either a browser to run the site in or a phone/tablet for the app, a WiFi connection and a gmail, discord, vkontakte or a twitter account to sign up! I reccomend having a short spin just to make a pony or two and get a hang of the controls but there's always guides and the list of controls.

On Personal InfoSec
Been awhile since I've had one of these posts but I figure with all that's going on in the world it's time to make another one of these posts and get some stuff out there for people. A lot of the information I'm going to go over you can find here:
So if you'd like to just click the link and ignore the rest of the post that's fine, I strongly recommend checking out the Privacy Guides.
Browsers:
There's a number to go with but for this post going forward I'm going to recommend Firefox. I know that the Privacy Guides lists Brave and Safari as possible options but Brave is Chrome based now and Safari has ties to Apple. Mullvad is also an option but that's for your more experienced users so I'll leave that up to them to work out.
Browser Extensions:
uBlock Origin: content blocker that blocks ads, trackers, and fingerprinting scripts. Notable for being the only ad blocker that still works on Youtube.
Privacy Badger: Content blocker that specifically blocks trackers and fingerprinting scripts. This one will catch things that uBlock doesn't catch but does not work for ads.
Facebook Container: "but I don't have facebook" you might say. Doesn't matter, Meta/Facebook still has trackers out there in EVERYTHING and this containerizes them off away from everything else.
Bitwarden: Password vaulting software, don't trust the password saving features of your browsers, this has multiple layers of security to prevent your passwords from being stolen.
ClearURLs: Allows you to copy and paste URL's without any trackers attached to them.
VPN:
Note: VPN software doesn't make you anonymous, no matter what your favorite youtuber tells you, but it does make it harder for your data to be tracked and it makes it less open for whatever network you're presently connected to.
Mozilla VPN: If you get the annual subscription it's ~$60/year and it comes with an extension that you can install into Firefox.
Proton VPN: Has easily the most amount of countries serviced, can take cash payments, and does offer port forwarding.
Email Provider:
Note: By now you've probably realized that Gmail, Outlook, and basically all of the major "free" e-mail service providers are scraping your e-mail data to use for ad data. There are more secure services that can get you away from that but if you'd like the same storage levels you have on Gmail/Outlook.com you'll need to pay.
Proton Mail: Secure, end-to-end encrypted, and fairly easy to setup and use. Offers a free option up to 1gb
Tuta: Secure, end-to-end encrypted, been around a very long time, and offers a free option up to 1gb.
Email Client:
Thunderbird if you're on Windows or Linux
Apple Mail if you're on macOS
Cloud Storage:
Proton Drive: Encrypted cloud storage from the same people as Proton Mail.
Tresorit: Encrypted cloud storage owned by the national postal service of Switzerland. Received MULTIPLE awards for their security stats.
Peergos: decentralized and open-source, allows for you to set up your own cloud storage, but will require a certain level of expertise.
Microsoft Office Replacements:
LibreOffice: free and open-source, updates regularly, and has the majority of the same functions as base level Microsoft Office.
OnlyOffice: cloud-based, free, and open source.
Chat Clients:
Note: As you've heard SMS and even WhatsApp and some other popular chat clients are basically open season right now. These are a couple of options to replace those.
Signal: Provides IM and calling securely and encrypted, has multiple layers of data hardening to prevent intrusion and exfil of data.
Molly (Android OS only): Alternative client to Signal. Routes communications through the TOR Network.
Briar: Encrypted IM client that connects to other clients through the TOR Network, can also chat via wifi or bluetooth.
Now for the last bit, I know that the majority of people are on Windows or macOS, but if you can get on Linux I would strongly recommend it. pop_OS, Ubuntu, and Mint are super easy distros to use and install. They all have very easy to follow instructions on how to install them on your PC and if you'd like to just test them out all you need is a thumb drive to boot off of to run in demo mode.
If you game through Steam their Proton emulator in compatibility mode works wonders, I'm presently playing a major studio game that released in 2024 with no Linux support on it and once I got my drivers installed it's looked great. There are some learning curves to get around, but the benefit of the Linux community is that there's always people out there willing to help.
I hope some of this information helps you and look out for yourself, it's starting to look scarier than normal out there.

I think in light of recent events it’s important for everyone to move away from google and Microsoft ecosystems. I suspect the next 4 years are going to be rampant with big corps being allowed to do whatever the fuck they want, and as your local tech nerd I have some suggestions:
(Also, none of these feature AI tools as far as I’ve been able to tell!)
Search engine suggestions
The popular one I see is duckduckgo, but they’ve had a number of scandals at this point. The one I currently use is startpage, which is based in the Netherlands. The EU has much stricter data privacy laws than US based search engines. It operates off google but hides your data from google, so you get the benefit of google’s search engine without them knowing every single little thing about you.
Browser suggestions
The one I personally use is Vivaldi because aside from a once a day ping to count active users, they track no user data. It also has a built in ad and tracker blocker that works well in my opinion. It also hasn’t had any major scandals. (Please for the love of god don’t use operaGX)
Email suggestions
The one I currently use is Proton Mail. The proton ecosystem also features a VPN, Drive, Calendar, and other tools- it’s essentially a 1:1 replacement for most google/office 365 tools. To have a good amount of storage you do need to pay, but it’s not terribly expensive and most people can get by on the free tier. You can also have it reroute emails from your Gmail to proton, so you can benefit from their encryption without nuking your Gmail.
Other suggestions
Linus Tech Tips has a series on how to β€œun-google” your life. YouTube took down all videos except the first one (another example of big corps being fucking wild), but they can be found on blogs if you look up the series.

BEST STARTING TEAM :
Focus on picking your favourites ! The game is not that hard, and you can easily make it thru with basic cards, especially at the beginning.
Yes, Gojo is the best (his 2 SSRs and his SSR Memory Recollections are best in class) BUT Gojo is a busy-busy my-pace teacher, and he will leave the fight after 7 rounds. Nothing you can do to keep him. Meaning having Gojo is not enough to carry you thru fights lasting for 3 waves of cursed monsters. You need other DPS to get you thru so don't focus only on duplicate cards of Gojo.

Don't forget about Elements / Colours either and try to pull for a varied team. Also remember that you can only have each character once in your team (meaning you can't make 2 Nobaras fight in the same team).
At early stage of the game, cards who can attack multiple enemies (such as SSR Megumi or SSR Maki) are very useful to harvest resources. But they will not make it to the best Tier List due to poor damage on cursed Bosses, so make your own judgement.
SSR Memories & Recollections are actually quite easy to get, especially with Events, so you might choose not to focus on them much.
Any SR character or memory with duplicates (and max level raised) will be more powerful than a single SSR, you can check the % of bonus stats to see this easily.

DPS / Damage : SSRs Gojo, Nobara, Yuuji, Inumaki

Today, While I was in the middle of typing an email, Microsoft Outlook 365 popped up a window demanding feedback. And boy did I have shit to say.
I had to keep the swearing out, because apparently any report I make is duplicated and sent to the IT department. But the text I ended up sending follows:

God, I have so much to tell you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. First: Stop messing with everything. Outlook works fine, but you keep changing things that don't need changing. Moving buttons around. Turning on features that I have explicitly turned off for not working before. Just today, you turned on the auto-suggestions again, which would be great if it actually worked. Instead, when it suggests anything you don't accept, it just mashes words together. Do you know how it feels to be typing a professional email and you miss one of those failures and send your email anyway? I mean, to be fair, I caught ten, so I still got a 90% on the ol' Microsoft-sanctioned-typo-factory. But the person I emailed doesn't see it that way, do they? They see that I mashed three words together like there was a wasp on the space bar.
Plus, my signature keeps getting deleted. Not just switched to nothing, but completely deleted. Which means I have to re-make that every time your developers get bored and decide to re-haul a program that absolutely never needs re-hauling. I remember once a couple months ago the attachment button just disappeared, and there was no way for me to attach a final bill. I had to actually use my personal gmail address to send an email to a customer because for about 16 hours, it was impossible to attach anything.
But, you say, I should have sent error reports. And I did. But the question in my mind always comes back to "why are you messing with something that does not need changing?" The only thing that ever happens is that you change aesthetics. Colors. This time the boxes are gone. Do you think you're at risk of losing customers? Do you think you have to keep things new and fresh? No. People are shackled to you. You have a quasi-monopoly and a stranglehold on a whole lot of workflows. People cannot leave you. In the world of word processing and spreadsheets, you are Alcatraz. You don't have to change things to keep people here.
Instead, long-time bugs continue to plague everything I do within this hell-suite of software. Sometimes when I try to start typing in the body of the email, outlook decides that, no, I don't want to type an email! I want to send the other emails in my inbox to the archive, where, if I don't notice this, they will sit and fester forever. There's also the bug where I create an email and it duplicates it and puts it in my drafts. Or the bug where it just creates a blank email and puts it in my drafts. Do you want to know how many blank emails I've deleted from my drafts folder? There are not enough numbers in existence to count this.
If you REALLY want to know how to improve Outlook and this message isn't just going into the wilderness like all those notebooks from the hit-TV-show-where-nobody-liked-the-ending, LOST, then please. Listen. From the bottom of my heart and from the top of my lungs: Stop changing everything. Nothing needs changing. Just run a good service. Get your programmers onto fixing longstanding bugs instead of trying to make an email and scheduling program look like a fashion show in Paris.
And if I seem a little ticked off in this message, it's because your request for feedback popped up in the middle of me compiling an email, which was just about halfway done. Outlook, in all its wisdom, decided that I didn't actually need that email and went ahead and deleted all the text in it. All of it. So after I finish giving you an earful, I'm going to have to retype it.

The recent installation of Elon Musk ally Thomas Shedd atop the federal IT structure has thrown an agency in charge of servicing much of the US government’s technical infrastructure into disarray.
Over the last few days, workers at the Technology Transformation Services (TTS), which is housed within the General Services Administration (GSA), have been summoned into what one source called β€œsneak attack” meetings to discuss their code and projects with total strangersβ€”some quite youngβ€”who lacked official government email addresses and have been reticent to identify themselves. TTS workers have also received confusing transition guidance and a sudden DC office visit from Musk.
It was announced last week that Shedd, who previously worked as a software engineer for eight years at Tesla, Musk’s electric car company, would be the new TTS director. In emails to TTS staff, Shedd reinforced the Trump administration’s commitment to cutting costs and maximizing efficiencyβ€”something Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has been charged with carrying out.
β€œI’ve spent my entire career in Silicon Valley,” Shedd wrote in an introductory email to staff last Thursday and obtained by WIRED. β€œIf we work together and execute well we will be able to navigate the policies, leverage our technical expertise and be a critical part of accelerating technology adoption across agencies to enable great gains in efficiency.”
TTS helps develop the platforms and tools that underpin many government services, including analytics tools and API plugins that agencies can use to deploy tech faster. This means that the group has access to troves of government data and systems across agencies. That access is useful for standardizing the many, not always interoperable, systems that the federal government uses, but could also provide invaluable information to a private company or be weaponized against government employees and citizens.
Early Wednesday morning, rumors began to spread at TTS that employees would be receiving surprise one-on-one meeting notifications from management. During these brief meetings, employees would, according to a staff email that Shedd sent later on Tuesday, be asked to identify their biggest β€œwins” and the most significant β€œblockers” preventing them from working as efficiently as possible. The email linked to a Google Form questionnaire for employees to fill out ahead of their scheduled meetings. The invites included people without official GSA email accounts who were using Gmail addresses as well as official government accounts, multiple sources told WIRED.
β€œThese should be items that you completed,” a screenshot of the form obtained by WIRED said. β€œIt is OK to have a mix of big projects and small wins (examples: fixed a critical bug, shipped XYZ feature, saved this amount on a renegotiated contract, ect [sic] … If you are an engineer or designer please include a link to a PR [pull request] or a screenshot of one of your wins from the past 3 months.”
The email is reminiscent of one that Musk sent early in his Twitter days, demanding that employees email a one-page description of what they had accomplished the previous month and how it differed from their goals.
Rather than convening with Shedd in these meetings, TTS employees were instead surprised to be met with people they had never seen or worked with before.
β€œIt was a very confusing call because I expected to be meeting you, and I was instead met by two people reluctant to identify themselves,” one TTS employee told Shedd in an open Slack channel, one of several reviewed by WIRED. β€œThey had not seen the information I submitted in my form, so I was left trying to explain things without the visuals/links I had submitted,” one wrote.
β€œAlso had the same exact experience,” another employee added. β€œThe individual I had met with had no idea about the google form I submitted and when I did reference it, I was met with avoidance.”
In a Slack message to TTS staff on Thursday morning viewed by WIRED, Shedd apologized for the vague and sudden meeting invites, and for including unnamed individuals in the meetings who joined with Gmail addresses.
β€œThey are each in the onboarding process of obtaining a GSA laptop and PIV card. I take full responsibility for the actions of each of them in the calls. I’ve asked them to start the calls with their first name and confirming that they are an advisor to me,” Shedd said in a screenshot of the Slack message viewed by WIRED.
Shedd told employees that the people on the calls were β€œvetted by me, and invited into the call.” He said they were physically present with him at the GSA headquarters, and that he had β€œbadged them all into the building.” This implies that those joining the calls did not currently have official government IDs issued to agency staff.
At least two of these individuals appeared to be β€œcollege students with disturbingly high A-suite clearance,” one TTS source told WIRED. (A-suite clearances tie employees to the GSA administrator’s office.)
One person says they were brought into a review with Edward Coristine, a recent high school graduate who spent several months at Neuralink, Musk’s brain-computer interface company, whom WIRED has previously identified as a person working at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and reporting directly to its new chief of staff, the former xAI employee Amanda Scales. He has not responded to requests for comment from WIRED, and OPM has declined to comment.
β€œWe do not have any additional personnel announcements at this time.” a GSA spokesperson told WIRED on Thursday.
It’s typical for TTS workers to work in tandem with other agencies across government, with many of their projects containing data external to GSA and subject to sensitivity agreements. Being required to share specific technical achievements, though, spooked some employees who feared they could breach these agreements.
β€œThe team is correct in feeling nervous sharing details about other agencies in these calls and should continue to follow the normal guidance which is to not share sensitive information,” Shedd wrote in the GSA Slack on Thursday. β€œThe point of these calls is to talk through interesting example problems/wins and dig into how that win was realized. A chance for you to brag about how you solved a problem.”
This week, it appears that TTS has become the primary target of these meetings, but members of the US Digital Servicesβ€”which a Trump executive order has rebranded as Musk’s DOGEβ€”also met with management to go over their recent work last week. The DOGE meetings were conducted similarly in structure to the TTS ones, according to The Washington Post.
Like many other agencies, GSA has been making changes to DEI initiatives that have put workers on edge. On January 23, TTS deputy director Mukunda Penugonde announced that as part of the GSA’s new initiative to curtail DEIA programs, the agency would be shutting down its β€œDiversity Guild meeting series” and the β€œ#g-diversity Slack channel effective today,” in an email reviewed by WIRED.
Musk was seen at the GSA office near the White House on Thursday, but it’s unclear what he was doing there. Shedd was scheduled to lead a meeting with around 40 TTS program supervisors Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday, WIRED reported that Musk has been telling his friends that he’s been sleeping at the DOGE office in DC.
Of all parts of the government, TTS, perhaps even more so than DOGE, is well positioned to get inside agencies’ technology and data, including government spending data, explaining why it’s such a focus for the new administration.
β€œTTS represents the consolidation of 20-plus years of tech and data expertise, brought together by the hard work of hundreds (if not thousands) of civil servants,” Noah Kunin, a cofounder of 18F, a team of designers and engineers within the GSA that help government agencies build and deploy new tech products, and a former infrastructure director at GSA, tells WIRED. β€œThey have the products, platforms, and people to do this work right, within the confines of current law, and fast.”

We're less than a day from the start of the @lbfad-minibang posting period. I know from the drafts you all have turned in that we are about to see some seriously awesome art and fic.
A few things to get out of the way:
We are not strict about timezones. As long as it is January 5th somewhere in the world, you can post.
Multichapter fics can have multiple posts. We will reblog all of your updates. You do not need to post your fic all at once. It MUST be completed and posted by the end of the posting period though.
Artists, you are the same. If you would like to space out your art posts, you and your fic writer are welcome to agree to do so. I know some of you may want to wait to post a more 'spoilery' piece. However, at least ONE complete piece must be posted at the same time as the fic is first posted.
Art and fic can be posted separately, but should be linked together. What I mean by this:
Fic and art can both be in the same post, if the artist and author agree to such.
Fic and art can be linked to each other (i.e. the artist links to the author and the author links to the artist).
Some combination of both. I know a lot of people like to make banners of their fic's art for minibangs, of course.
Your fic on AO3 should ALSO link to the art. It's up to you whether you want to link it, embed it, or both. Vice versa if you are an artist who posts on ao3.

I'm Unpeeling Myself from Big Tech!
"Unpeeling" being any act you take that limits the amount of data a large tech corporation can gather from you, decreases your reliance on products of those corporations, or increases autonomy over your technology. I'm ripping the term from a line in this review by Joanna Nelius, where she writes, "People are looking for ways to peel their eyes from their smartphones like a layer of Elmer’s glue from their hand β€” to remove a part of themselves that really isn’t a part of themselves." It's different than "unplugging" because the goal isn't to go off the grid, or even to limit one's technology usage. The goal, instead, is to extract from the invasive, addictive, destructive capitalist vision a set of tools that are useful to YOU.
It started when I realized I don't need a smartphone. I've deleted most social media from my phone, and the stuff I still have I prefer to check on my laptop. Not all "dumb phones" (I hate this term) offer the same features, though, so I began to think on a granular level about what I need from a cell phone. Eg, not all "dumb phones" provide MMS, but my family lives 3k miles away. I wanna still talk in the groupchat.
On the more complex end, I write on my phone. I've been using Google Docs to move seamlessly from scribbled writing drafts on my phone to formatted, finished works on my computer since I was fourteen.
Except, Google Docs is useless now. I've been unable to use it since they lowered the storage capacity. The only other cloud storage writing thingy with similar functionality is Office 365, which sucks.
Could a dumb phone with a basic "notes" feature work? Maybe, but I'd have to re-type everything to get it into a formatted document. Ideally, I'd have like, a mini-laptop just for writing - something I could fit in my pocket or in a small bag, so I could bring it to work without looking like a dick - and then, in addition, a basic phone for calls/texts/GPS stuff. But does a device this specific to my use case even exist?

This is a GPD Micro PC. GPD mainly sells handheld gaming machines, though this product is designed for mobile IT professionals. It's probably too chonky for a pocket, but mark my words, I will figure out how to make it work for me.
It's stupid, but this gave me a rush. I've been struggling along, tied to the bloated corpses of three gmail accounts, for years, because I needed Google Docs for my writing workflow. But now I don't. I have the power to actually tailor my tech for my life.
By this point, I was like, alright, I don't need Google Docs anymore, I don't need a smartphone, what else? Do I need Windows? No, probably not, right? I can use Linux Mint on this new guy, especially since he'll mostly be a basic writing machine. LibreOffice is less intrusive and bloated than MS Word - a better experience for free than I'd have from the paid program. If I go all the way and install Linux, I also won't have to deal with ads in my start menu, or pre-installed spyware screenshotting my activities.
In fact, if I back everything up on an external drive, I can delete my old Google Drives and switch my main computer to Linux, too! So, I finally bit the bullet and invested in an external hard drive.
This is the problem with "product ecosystems," by the way. When one part of that ecosystem - Google Docs - fails, the whole thing collapses. All the bloat and corruption you dealt with just stops being worth it, and it's easier to make a radical change to a new system. I witnessed something similar happen with comedy tech youtuber Dankpods earlier this year, except with Apple's ecosystem: he was a lifetime Apple guy - seemingly not in a worship way, but he liked their products, and was certainly in Apple's ecosystem. Then a couple things went sour for him, and now he runs Linux.
I'm doing this for personal and ideological reasons. I'm personally sick of Clippy - I mean, Copilot - peeping in to tell me how to write what I'm writing on Office 365. I abhor the idea of paying Google for a service they offered for free until recently, knowing they can flip the script at any point. And while we're talking ideology, I'm a communist, and even though this is far from a shift everyone can make, I believe that taking any available steps towards shutting Big Tech out of our lives is a net good. If all you can do is delete Instagram, or use a screentime tracker, or switch to Firefox, do it. I'm finally in a position to make this more drastic change, and I'm excited.
Get in the weeds about how you use technology. Do you need everything at your fingertips, all the time? If not, what, specifically, do you need? Is there a way that you, now or in the future, can trim out the parts you dislike? And what can you change now?

3) On my laptop I use Amberol (it uses libadwaita, I don't care) while on mobile I use Retro player. I am trying to move my music library to jellyfin though so I can manage it more easily.
6) I am currently using vscode as my main code editor but I am trying to learn neovim because a. It looks cool b. electron sucks so much memory... ( I did also try zed for a while but I couldn't be bothered to configure it and feature wise it was slightly worse than vscode )
17) I am... very sadly... using gmail :[ fuck google but I currently don't have a VPS to host my own email and I am too lazy to move to proton because I know eventually I will self host it and I don't want to move everything again. Also I use the web client... maybe I should try thunderbird?
23) On my laptop I would say niri, a tiling compositor that "scrolls" windows, very cool, can't go back to floating window management and Firefox too, I couldn't imagine going back to chrome lol On my mobile phone there's first of all fdroid because fuck google (again) or more specifically droidify, a custom client for fdroid which leads us to the other "software" I can't not use on my mobile, material ui... I know it's made by google but it's pretty much the only thing that allows theming on Android so...

What is Pon//y Town?
It's essentially a chatroom but with cute, customisable avatars! There are NO in-game purchases and any cool features you see on other peoples ponies are made by that player! There are lot's of fun and cute areas where you can explore, chat and roleplay.
What do I need? How do I get started?
All you need is either a browser to run the site in or a phone/tablet for the app, a WiFi connection and a gmail, discord, vkontakte or a twitter account to sign up! I reccomend having a short spin just to make a pony or two and get a hang of the controls but there's always guides and the list of controls.
