what's the stupidest/silliest looking frog you know of?
Oh
heck
that's
such
a
great
question
where
do
I
even
start?
[In order of appearance: Glyphoglossus molossus, Myobatrachus gouldii, Choerophryne proboscidea, Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis, Pipa pipa, Litoria pinocchio, Triprion petasatus, Synapturanus danta, Breviceps verrucosus, Notaden bennettii, Hemisus guttatus, Hemiphractus bubalus]
#frogs#animals#wildlife#silly#biology#apparently there is a clear formula for a silly or stupid-looking frog#it should (1) be wider than it is long#(2) have something ridiculous going on with its snout#and (3) have bulging or otherwise hilarious eyes#I barely even had to TRY to come up with these goobers off the top of my head#I know for a fact that I missed dozens more weirdos#I mean#to be fair#have you ever really LOOKED at a frog?#like really looked at one?#they're ALL goobers#but also#and I cannot stress this enough#they're good frogs Brent#they're all good frogs

A nice blunt-headed burrowing frog [Glyphoglossus molossus] sitting in the soil in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. These frogs spend much of the year buried in the ground, but are often uprooted by accident by farmers and gardeners. Image by Ingkayut Sa-ar.

There is some information about them on GBIF. There also seems to be some disagreement regarding its genus; IUCN and AmphibiaWeb have it in Glyphoglossus.
Calluella capsa, the Red Hot Chili Pepper Frog from Borneo. As its pretty rare no-one has tasted it yet to see if it lives up to its name

Get to know the blunt-headed burrowing frog (Glyphoglossus molossus)! This amphibian is also known as the balloon frog because of its spherical body shape.🎈🐸🎈 It lives in parts of Southeast Asia including Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, where it inhabits forests and wetlands, spending much of its time underground. During breeding season, it comes to the surface and takes advantage of seasonal rain pools to release up to 300 eggs. Unfortunately, the species is threatened due in part to humans catching the frogs for consumption when they come out to breed. Its giant, chubby appearance is due to a self-defense technique in which it inflates itself with air in order to look more formidable when it feels in danger. The species of the frog is the Blunt-headed Burrowing Frog, also called Glyphoglossus molossus.

Note
Which frog is Most Round?
No question, members of the genus Breviceps. They are basically balls of pure muscle. Which species is more challenging. Contenders include
Breviceps mossambicus
B. gibbosus
B. fuscus
and
B. verrucosus
All extremely round.
Note 1: I do not include some of the other Breviceps here, like B. macrops, because they have more distinct heads and larger eyes that break up the roundness.
Note 2: I am defining roundness here as being as near to spherical as possible, not just a circle. If we were going just circular/disclike, there would be many other possible contenders, and Glyphoglossus molossus would be a very possible winner.

May I offer you a blunt-headed burrowing frog [Glyphoglossus molossus]? These plump microhylids are also referred to as “balloon frogs” for their large, round bodies. They can be found in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Image by Don Injabok.
