Marvel Latino Superheroes Part 1
1. María Aracely Josefina Penalba de las Heras aka Hummingbird - Mexican born
2. Miles Morales aka Spider Man - biracial; half Puerto Rican and half black
3. Miguel Santos aka Living Lightning - Hispanic nationality unknown but is American born
4. Sam Alexander aka Nova - biracial; half Mexican and half white
5. Victor Alvarez aka Power Man - biracial; Afro-Dominican
6. Humberto Lopez aka Reptil - Mexican born
7. Roberta Mendez aka Captain America 2099 - Hispanic nationality unknown but is American born
8. Miguel O’Hara aka Spider Man 2099 - biracial; half Irish and half Mexican
9. Bonita Juarez aka Firebird - Chicana (Mexican American)
10. Robbie Reyes aka Ghost Rider - Chicano (Mexican American)
11. Alejandra Jones aka Ghost Rider - Hispanic nationality unknown
12. Maya Lopez aka Echo - half Hispanic and half Cheyenne, the former nationality is unknown
13. Ajak aka The Legendary Inca Warrior - Peruvian born
14. Anya Corazon aka Arana - half Mexican and half Puerto Rican American
15. Gabriel Vargas aka Captain Universe - Chicano (Mexican American)
16. Gabriel Carlos Dantes Sepulveda aka Defensor - Argentinian born
17. Fabio Medina aka Egg (formerly known as Goldballs) - Hispanic nationality unknown but is American born
18. America Chavez aka Miss America - biracial; Afro-Puerto Rican Caribbean
19. Carmen Cruz aka Gimmick - biracial; Afro-Latina
20. Laura Kinney aka Wolverine - biracial; Afro-Latina and half white; her exact ethnicity is unknown but first appearance (in the animated X-Men: Evolution series) depicts her with dark skin and her “mother” had darker skintone with blonde hair. Her creators didn’t specify her ethnicity but I do think she’s Hispanic. And given the darker skintone of her “mother”, she’s most likely Afro-Latina. I know in recent comic adaptation portray her with way lighter skin tone but her ORIGINAL appearance shows her with DARKER skintone (thought not as dark as her “mother”). As such, I have seen Laura as half white and half Afro Latina but the Hispanic nationality is unknown. Also, as a side note, her creators also mentioned they planned to do a LGBT storyline with Laura but it was axed. So, she’s also LGBT.
21. Cecilia Reyes - Puerto Rican and depicted with dark-skinned complexion
22. Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot - biracial; Afro-Brazilian
23. Armando Munoz aka Darwin - biracial; Afro-Latino; Hispanic nationality unknown

29. Benito Serrano aka Toro - Cuban
30. Gabriel Cohuelo aka Velocidad - Mexican born

PART II
The Crimson City has taken new shape as The Emerald City, and the booze pours like water. Of course, anyone with foresight will know even a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration can’t go untouched by at least one of the families. The drinks have made their rounds, whether that’s lounged at the bar or courtesy of the green and orange clad waiters delivering martinis on a tray. Everyone found their way to their favorite attraction—more like staggered to their favorite attraction—when the heat pooled at their toes, licked its way up their ankles. Before they knew it, their entire bodies were consumed in heat, reddening their cheeks like a sunburn in the middle of Chicago’s burning summer.
It clicked just a little too late that they had been dosed, and the rage set in before common sense. Something erupted in the crowd, volcanic and angry, and the fights broke out like they were on a schedule. It was chaos; chaos that couldn’t be contained by the police guards eyeing the perimeter to prevent an event like last time. Civilians and family members alike, everyone present, began to lose their grip on reality. Attachments were lost in the wildfire of it all, and those who looked like friends morphed into something to be feared.
The O’Shea creation, BUA, and its side effects come from equal parts LSD, methamphetamines, and cocaine, all without the floating euphoria of feeling high. It’s very capable of killing, even in small doses, and even with the likelihood that you’ll survive, the drug leaves its traces on your brain for weeks after ingestion. BUA comes in all forms, and it can be injected, snorted, and smoked, depending on the vehicle of delivery. BUA is incredibly addictive, and it’s hard enough to get a hold of that anyone who ingests the drug will deal with the aftermath of withdrawals.
Your character, for the time being, is under the influence of BUA, meaning they may act out of character and violent toward their surroundings. That includes friends, enemies, and strangers.
Part II will run from March 20th through March 23rd. For this event, we’ll be throwing characters into groups, so they may interact with whoever they’re teamed up with. You can find all of your assigned groups below. If your character is not included, please feel free to reach out to the admins, and we’ll find a place for your muse. Also please note that your character could have been drugged by drinking any drink or eating any food.
SHORT-TERM SIDE EFFECTS (2-3 HOURS):
Rapid breathing
Increased sweating (typically with accompanying chills)
Pin-sized pupils
Skin redness
Hallucinations
Extreme agitation
Violent tendencies
Obsessive tendencies
Spiking energy and heart rate
Memory loss/lack of attachment
Death
LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS (1-2 WEEKS)
Night terrors
Fever
Increased sweating (typically with accompanying chills)
Mood swings (ranging from violent outbursts to extreme depression)
Spiking heart rate
Lethargy
Muscle pain
Paranoia
Nausea
Mental confusion
Excessive hunger or craving
Death

Lin-Manuel Miranda Talks Puerto Rico Benefit Song 'Almost Like Praying'
Interview in Rolling Stone
"The way music comes out of ... every molecule of the place [is] something we share," playwright says of track featuring Jennifer Lopez and Luis Fonsi
It's been two weeks since Hurricane Maria first raged across the island of Puerto Rico, and the crisis has only grown more complex. What first seemed like a natural disaster has also proven to be a long-standing infrastructural one; most of the island remains without electricity and water, putting its residents at a heightened risk of disease and famine. Yet with Puerto Ricans' pleas meeting inadequate responses from the White House, Tony-winning Hamilton playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda has taken matters into his own hands – and with the help of many friends. Recorded alongside an all-star cast of Latin artists, including Jennifer Lopez, Gina Rodriguez, Fat Joe, Gloria Esterfan, Camila Cabello and Marc Anthony, Miranda's new song "Almost Like Praying" is a love song to Puerto Rico as much as it is a fight song. The song's proceeds will benefit the Hispanic Federation's UNIDOS Disaster Relief Fund.
"You know how we always tell artists 'stay in your lane' anytime they say something remotely political? I'm trying to use what I do in service of this challenge," Miranda tells Rolling Stone. "We're facing a humanitarian crisis right now. And the response from our federal government is not commensurate with the previous two hurricanes, much less up to the unprecedented danger of this disaster itself."
Miranda began work on the song, an adaptation of "Maria" from 1961 musical West Side Story, two days after the hurricane first made landfall. "I knew the name Maria was forever going to have a destructive connotation to this island," says Miranda. "It's also the name of my favorite song from West Side Story. So my brain was already looking for a sample to flip … And that's what we do in hip-hop, right? We take a sample, we flip it and change the meaning. And so the hook of the song is, 'Say it soft, and it's almost like praying.'"
But first, he sought clearance from Stephen Sondheim and the estate of Leonard Bernstein. "They gave their blessing within a day," says Miranda. "When there's a crisis, you call in all the favors – call the gods of musical theater! I have the great fortune to count Sondheim as a mentor and a friend. I worked with him and Bernstein on the 2009 revival of West Side Story and its Spanish translations. Sondheim wrote back immediately and said 'Yes – and what else can I do?'"
Miranda infused the number with a warm blend of dancehall, reggaeton and steel drum sounds; the result is an incendiary and highly danceable clarion call. ("If you're gonna write a song for Puerto Rico and you can't dance to it," says Miranda, "you fucked up.") Most moving is how many of Miranda's childhood heroes, including original West Side Story cast member Rita Moreno, take turns shouting out each of the island's 78 towns – a move Miranda says was inspired by Puerto Ricans' heartbreaking calls across social media to find their relatives in the wake of the storm.
"There was a terrible silence," says Miranda. "For some people days, for some people weeks. My Twitter and my Facebook were filled with friends and family listing the names of their towns. 'My grandmother is in Vega Alta, my father lives in San Juan, has anyone heard from Isabela?' I began thinking about the towns as lyrics. What unites us in this tiny island that is 100 miles across and 35 miles north to south … Is that we're from these towns. We ask, 'Where are you from?' It is our link to our roots and our families."
While enlisting collaborators for the track, Miranda says he made new friends in the process. "I broke my Rolodex and called every Latino artist I know," he says. "And when I didn't know them, I got on Twitter. I caused a minor uproar with Camila Cabello's fans when I tweeted her, 'Hey I have an idea!' I also sent a private message to Luis Fonsi, who I never met before. I cold-called and every single person said yes, without even hearing the song."
Within a dizzying 72 hours, Miranda flew from New York to Miami and Los Angeles to be present while the artists recorded their respective verses. Yet some were still recovering in the Caribbean, where resources were scarce and internet access was spotty. "The rapper PJ Sin Suela recorded at home," says Miranda. "But he didn't have the bandwidth to email his verse. So he gave a memory stick to Estefan, who was there on a relief mission – she then flew it back to us. When I say 'all hands on deck,' I'm really not fucking around!"
Riggs Morales, the executive producer behind the Hamilton Mixtape, mixed and mastered the song in the days that followed. Meanwhile, Miranda harvested stories of Puerto Rico from his collaborators, evoking tears and laughter inside the studios. This behind-the-scenes footage will air as part of a televised benefit, airing commercial-free on Telemundo Saturday, October 7th.
"I asked everyone, 'What are your favorite memories from Puerto Rico?'" says Miranda. "I will never forget seeing Rubén Blades breaking down about meeting Hector LaVoe for the first time. I'll never forget Marc Anthony talking about wearing suits before getting on a plane [to the United States] so they'd look white when they landed … And Gilberto Santa Rosa, who sang at my wedding. He was a salsero, but grew up in the same part of town as Daddy Yankee. They could not make two more different genres, but music saved their lives.
"The way music comes out of every frog, every tree, every molecule of the place," reflects Miranda, "That's something we share."

Shattered Glass Hasbro Universe - M.A.S.K.
This was something that I came up with on the Allspark forum after some discussion in the Personal Canon thread. Basically, how would the IDW Hasbro Universe characters work in a Shattered Glass style universe. This led me to reinvent the characters from M.A.S.K. in a world where good guys are bad and bad guys are good. This is mostly based on the IDW continuity, but with some elements of the M.A.S.K. TV show. I imagine the universe these stories take place in is some kind of hybrid between normal Shattered Glass continuity and IDW continuity.
VENOM - The Valiant Emergency Network of Mankind:
Miles "Manners" Manheim - An old war buddy of President Colton who used to be a corrupt soldier that sold out his countries secrets. However, he changed after getting captured by an enemy platoon. Rather than selling out his friends, he kept their location secret. Eventually, he escaped, and went on to become an American hero and high-ranking general. However, his sense of morality and rules made him unpopular with other military commanders. After the Cybertronians landed, he headed a department to develop relations with them and exchange technology along with Andrew Trakker, who was more worried about getting his hands on Cybetronian weapons. After Andrew mysteriously disappeared, Manheim recruited his son Andy, who had become a career criminal, to help him finish his fathers work. After Andy betrayed him, Manheim recruited a team of individuals looking for redemption to defend against Trakker and his gang of criminals. Unlike his positive universe counterpart, Manheim has a full head of red hair, side burns, and a beard (with thin mustache.)
Vanessa Warfield - Manheim’s right-hand woman, she is the only other member of the VENOM to be recruited from the military. While she may seem timid, she is a an incredibly formidable fighter if provoked. Unlike her positive universe counterpart, she has jet black hair with a blonde streak.
Silvia “Sly” Rax - A former street magician/con artist looking for redemption. She deeply cares about the other members of the team and respects Mannheims leadership. She is incredibly charismatic, with both men and women finding her quite attractive. Even animals love her. She was originally born “Sylvester” Rax, but later changed her name.
Clifford "Ford" Dagger - VENOM’s resident gentle giant, recruited from prison after being framed for arson. While in prison, the Warden recruited Ford into a secret fight club, threatening to hurt Fords family if he didn’t. During one of the fights, his right eye was damaged, forcing him to wear an eyepatch. Ford is much smarter than he appears and often impresses the rest of the team with his extensive knowledge of unexpected subjects.
MASC - Mobile Armored Striking Commandos:
Andy Trakker, Jr. - Andy was the son of Andrew Trakker. A naturally gifted engineer, Trakker’s father resented his sons gifts and physically abused him. This led Andy to the world of illegal street racing, where he began a criminal empire. However, after one of his jobs went bad, Trakker was arrested. Miles Manheim, hoping to turn the boy around, arrived to offer Andy a job finishing his dads work. Andy agreed and helped Miles finish construction on his father’s Mask project. Under orders from President Colton, Andy secretly studied the captured Blitzwing to create a series of transforming vehicles the US military could use. Trakker planned to ultimately keep the tech he developed for himself. Calling up his old crew, they attempted to steal the Masks and vehicles, but were only able to get away with half of them.
Gloria "The Glorious" Baker - While most people see her as Andy Trakker’s arm candy, Gloria Baker is one of the most dangerous women alive. The daughter of wealthy CEOs and a genius in every respect, Gloria turned to her life of crime simply for the fun of it. She eventually met Andy Trakker and the two began sleeping together. Gloria is a master manipulator, convincing Trakker to basically make her his queen. While she lets him bark the orders, she is the one who gives them.
Bradley "Lee" Turner - For as long as he could remember, Lee Turner has wanted to be a rock star. Despite his music being utter crap, he managed to get a record deal. Unfortunately, he let fame (and drugs) get to his head, and he eventually hit rock bottom. Through a series of unfortunate circumstances, he fell into the employ of Andy Trakker as a drug runner. Andy took a liking to him and brought him into his inner circle, later making him a member of his MASC team.
Julian Lopez - Julian was one of Andy’s many thugs, working for him as a way to pay his mother’s medical bills while he went to med school. However, during a business deal that went south, Julian saved Andy’s life with his medical skills. Grateful, Andy decided to keep Julian around as his personal physician, providing him with all the money he needs to pay his mothers bills. As much as Julian would love to get out of Andy’s employ, he can’t risk his family’s financial security.
Who knows, maybe I’ll do something with this if I don’t get lazy. I threw in a few name/character changes, since that’s something SG liked to do. I’m especially proud of the fact that in this universe, Commandos is spelled properly, but it ruins the pun for the villains.
