📚 final fantasy, your choice of numerical!
cracks knuckles
Okay let's imagine, for a minute, about Noctis who didn't manage to escape the fire in Tenebrae. Regis lost his grip, Noctis tried to squirm out of his hold to get to Luna, something. And for the next eight years, Noctis is raised as a ward of the Empire alongside Luna and Ravus, with all the gristly details that implies because Niflheim finally has their hands on the crown prince of their hated enemy.
The story starts with Noctis' long awaited return to Insomnia at the hands of Lieutenant Drautos when he's sixteen, eight long, long years after the tragic fire that took Queen Sylvia's life. There's been some paper thin excuse about Noctis staying in the Empire for "goodwill" but everyone knows that he's been a hostage, and the kingdom is ecstatic to have their prince back.
The big reunion between beloved father and son, and it's shattered when Noctis, in a polite, quiet Tenebrae accent, asks, "Do I know you, sir?" (Because that's not what his father looked like. That's not the dad who abandoned him, is it? He's too old, surely--)
The prince that's returned to them is a stranger. Neatly combed back hair, a fondness for Tenebrae white colors, soft spoken lilting accent and impeccable manners that betray nothing of what he thinks. It's only in private, when Ignis and Gladio desperately try to get him to open up and maybe talk to them that Noctis admits that he wants to go home, to his brother and sister. The best he can do is send letters with the Messengers, a small, fluffy black dog that Ignis swears wasn't there yesterday.
We cut between Ravus, Luna, and Noctis as the letters pass hands. Ravus, having been pressured into being in the military at eighteen so he could no longer protect his little siblings, traces over the harsh stroke of the pen in Noct's letters in the privacy of his tiny cabin. Luna scribbling out her loneliness and exhaustion over being the world's youngest Oracle for four years now, saying how much she misses the comforting weight of her little brother following her around during her duties.
The Ravus we find here is harder on the outside, but fiercely protective of Luna and Noctis. His hatred for Regis is even more intense, because how dare that man abandon his own son, yet banked even further down because he cannot afford to let these emotions show when he needs to protect them. It's not just that Luna is his precious little sister -- their mother wasn't done healing Noctis before she perished, and Noctis could only rely on them. Ravus is the only one who knows that the Empire was going to kill the boy, and it was only his quick thinking that convinced General Glauca to spare Noctis as a hostage.
Luna is more tired, more worn down. Not only is she the youngest Oracle with an impossible task, she did everything she possibly could to make sure Noctis traveled with her retinue so she could keep an eye on him and make sure the Empire didn't touch him. And now that he's gone, whisked away back to his "home", she finds herself working even harder just to cope with the loneliness.
Noctis is... well. He copes, as best he can, being a stranger in his own 'home' with chronic pain and no one knowing what really happened. Even his magic is different, leans more towards healing and the like rather than traditional Lucian faire, uses a rapier like his older brother when he goes to spar. Spends time with his dog, with Ignis trying to get him to want to meet with his father, training with Gladio in the ring and trying not to flinch at how big he is (not his fault, he's just. Big like Glauca.), tentatively making friends with Cor's hyperactive blonde kid named Prompto...
It isn't until Gladio sees Captain Drautos 'checking in' on the Prince that things start to change. Drautos now has sway over the Glaives and the Crownsguard, the gratitude of the King Himself, so long as Prince Noctis keeps his mouth shut about what happened while he was being "rescued" from General Glauca. Except Noctis talks back to the Captain now that it's just him, he doesn't have to worry about his siblings getting hurt, just himself really.
Gladio charges, because even if that's a little shit of a guy that's his Prince who's being slapped around. He doesn't have a hope in hell against someone like Titus Drautos, let alone General Glauca, being only eighteen and new to the whole 'shield' thing. Gets his shit wrecked, his eye nearly cut open, and his life held against Noctis to scare them both into keeping Drautos' secret.
Gladio, while he's being patched up on Ignis' bathtub, is adamant that they tell the king and the council, while Noctis pleads that they can't or Glauca will find a way to punish Luna and Ravus. Ignis informs him that it will be happening, because this is no longer just a threat to them but a threat to the whole kingdom.
We cut to the chocobros watching as Prince Ravus and Princess Lunafreya are welcomed into Insomnia, only to have their introductions interrupted by Noctis' excited shout of their names and practically warping over to them to hug them stupid. Drautos is imprisoned now, things are starting to look up for the first time for the Fleuret siblings in ... so, so long.
I think the primary fic would end there, but I'd probably want to have oneshots set after, about the adjusting period, and how things wrap up. Something something the abuse that the kids were subjected to gets to light and has the Empire's citizens up in arms over the treatment of the beloved Oracle, Lucis uses it as a way to force Niflheim into a peace treaty. Another oneshot from the pov of someone who only knows Ravus as a battlefield commander, seeing him turn all soft and doting on Luna and Noctis. Maybe dig into how Noctis and Luna traveled around under the guard of Glauca, how it's just as much threatening as it is teasing the Lucis spies who can't get close enough to set Noctis free...
I think about this au often, if you can't tell,
[Put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.]

Once upon a time, I had an idea for a Rise x FFXV fic. I'm not going to write it because I'm not THAT crazy, but here's a bit I wrote for it at the time because I still think about it sometimes.
Mostly for the silly hahas and the angst and how now everyone has to ride chocobos because the party no longer fits in the car lol.
Anyway, here's this. Uh, lead up? Someone was stealing supplies from the campsites while the Chocobros were out. Manage to track the thief down and it's two turtles? And one of them's really hurt? Would it be a lie to say stranger things have happened to these guys?
-----------
“So, what are you guys anyway?” Prompto asks the question through a mouthful of meat, looking Mikey up and down with unashamed curiosity.
“Dude, really?” Noct elbows Prompto in the ribs, almost tipping him over, “They’re obviously turtles.”
“Hey!” Prompto aims a sloppy kick at Noct, missing by a mile, “I meant why are they turtles walking on two legs and talking!”
Ignis loudly clears his throat when Noct and Prompto start kicking at each other. They immediately settle down and tuck back into their dinner.
Mikey hides a laugh as he answers, “Weelllll, we’re mutants! We used to be regular turtles, but then we got combined with some ooze and human DNA and BAM! Instant mutant turtle, baby!” He shrugs at the blank looks he gets from the four humans, “It’s kind of a long story. And complicated.”
When he doesn’t continue, Prompto raises his eyebrows expectantly. But Mikey just takes another bite of food and doesn’t elaborate. Noct trades a glance with Gladio and then with Ignis. The crackling of the campfire fills the silence.
“You mentioned earlier,” Ignis finally tip-toes carefully into the awkward space, “That you believe you and your brother to be...lost?”
“Brothers,” Mikey corrects and it’s the most solemn he’s sounded all day. He lowers his fork so it rests absently on the edge of his plate, staring into the fire, “There’s four of us. Me, Leo and Donnie, and our big brother Raph. I don’t...I don’t know how we got here. It’s all messed up in my head, just confusion and light and…” He takes a deep breath, “I don’t know what happened. I just remember trying to grab onto my brothers but we all got ripped away from each other and then,” He shrugs absently, gaze distant, “I dunno, I woke up somewhere I didn’t know. Wandered around until I managed to find Leo.”
“Leo, he say how he got hurt?” Gladio asks, “It looks like a real nasty voretooth bite but—”
“Yeah, and how come you guys were in a cave instead of a Haven?” Prompto interrupts, “Can’t believe you weren’t attacked this whole time!”
Mikey blinks, “A Haven? What’s a Haven?”
“This is a Haven,” Ignis explains over Noct hissing things at Prompto, “They are safe places that protect travelers from the dangers of the night. Their blessing keeps evil at bay.”
“Oh,” Mikey looks down at the gently glowing runes beneath his feet. It’s darker now, the only remains of the sun a pale red stripe along the horizon, and they blue glow is brighter, clearer, “Huh.”
He’d felt something whenever he set foot on the runes, some kind of tingling warmth washing over him like a gentle tide. But he’d never lingered long enough to chase the feeling or find its source. He’s about to reach out to it with his Ninpō, just to see what would happen, when there comes a sound from the darkness beyond the Haven.
Something flares in the night, darker than black, a frothing void of pitch and foul tar. It yawns open, boiling at the edges as the world crumples to make way for it, and a grotesque creature unfolds from within it, spilling out into the night. It’s yards away, barely visible, but Mikey can just make out the writhing tentacles from the starlight alone.
His throat closes and he’s on his feet, his nunchaku in his hands. A terrified, dizzying nausea is making his gut churn, heart racing so hard its like it’s trying to tear from his chest. He swear he can feel the thing’s eyes on him in the dark, just at the edge of where the firelight can reach. Rage and terror boil inside him, his mind racing. Can he protect everyone here? Can he keep Leo safe? He doesn’t see a metal suit so maybe—
A hand presses on his shell and Mikey starts badly, nearly swinging his nunchaku up to hit whoever touched him.
Ignis doesn’t even flinch at Mikey’s aborted movement, just keeps a calm expression, patient as he looks out into the dark, “A mindflayer. Rather nasty foe and one I would not recommend facing alone.” He turns back to Mikey, keeping a steady hand on the curve of Mikey’s shell, “It’s quite all right, Michelangelo, daemons cannot come near Havens. As I said, they are warded against evil. For one to spawn so close is unusual, but it won’t be able to get any closer. There, see,” Ignis nods his head as indication, “It’s already drifting away.”
Mikey glances from Ignis back to the thing that had crawled into existence—the mindflayer. It’s no longer facing them, already disappearing into the shadows of the trees and fading out of sight. Mikey tries to steady his shaking breath and lets his arms fall to his sides, ends of his weapons knocking against his legs.
They’re safe here. They’re really, actually safe.

i promise i will shut up (eventually), but i also do want to elaborate on something from earlier:
abuse and neglect are two different things that can happen alone or at the same time, and both often lead to trauma. but they are not the same.
i think Ignis suffered severe emotional neglect due to his childhood (or lack thereof). he has had a job since he was six years old, and would have begun training for it even before that. he was not raised with his biological parents, and did not get the love and attention he deserved while he was growing up.
and i do believe he is traumatized from this.
i believe Ignis' lack of personal hobbies, his inability to function if he's not being "useful", and his stubbornness around accepting help all stem from this trauma. i also believe Ignis' natural tendency to act as a mother figure to Noctis is because Ignis himself didn't have a mother figure in his life. and, i believe Ignis' rash and unfortunate decision to use the Ring was a result of him being conditioned to always put Noctis first and to sacrifice himself.
what happened to Ignis breaks my heart. it was unfair, and should not have been allowed within modern society, tradition or not. i do not condone the actions of his parents, nor do i condone the actions of the monarchy for expecting them to give up their son.
but Ignis was not abused.
there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Ignis was ever mistreated under Regis' care, by anyone. he also was not forcibly trained into his role in the finalized version of FFXV. all canon sources state that Ignis is like a family member to Noctis, and that Regis intended for Ignis to be Noct's older brother, not merely a servant.
additionally, Ignis himself does not act like an abuse victim (which i fully understand is highly variable, but nothing in his actions or mannerisms suggests he is afraid of anything or that he is overly-protective of himself. he has no known triggers or involuntary reactions to anything, either).
basically, i do not appreciate the implication that Ignis must have suffered purposeful cruelty during his upbringing. it simply did not happen. he is a victim of circumstance, just like Noctis, just like Gladio. he was doomed into his role just by being born into his family. hell, his uncle is also a retainer who works at the Citadel.
no one hand-picked Ignis and decided to torture him into being Noct's caretaker. he's a Scientia. that's what they do. Ignis just went above and beyond, perhaps a little too much, and almost certainly would have developed a better sense of self-preservation had his parents been there.
emotional neglect, not abuse.

FFXV Fic Recommendations
Tumblr media
Hello! I thought I’d share some of my favorite fics from my most favorite game. Will update with more when I read more. Thank you!
Set Thy Hidden Stars On Fire by MYuzuki (16k words)
This time, when Prompto wakes up to start a new loop, it’s raining.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a cause for concern (or even a blip on his radar, really) but this time he wakes up outside for some reason, which means he’s in the rain.
And as his luck would have it, it’s something of a downpour.
-
If you love Prompto, you’ll love this fic. It’s relatively short, but managed to have me still think about it nearly a year after reading. MYuzuki is a great author!
Salvation by cassisluna (11k words)
Nyx Ulric lives and accompanies Lunafreya across Lucis to wake the six. Written for the 2021 FFXV Reverse Bang.
As she travels to wake Titan and Ramuh, Luna is grateful for the time given to her to see the land of Lucis with her own eyes and feet.
Nyx promised the King that he would see Princess Lunafreya to Altissia, and it seems easy enough—until he learns the Oracle's price for forging the covenants. After that, it's just a matter of... maybe going off-route for a while to let the princess sight-see for a bit.
-
I love anything that expands upon Lunafreya’s character or Kingsglaive. This fic did not disappoint with that at all.
Worth The Risk by Asidian (6k words)
It's captivating. Prompto's probably going to have thirty-eight photos of it for them to relive the experience, in vivid detail, later on.
But Prompto's not taking pictures anymore, Noct realizes. The camera's stopped.
And when Noctis looks over to see what the matter is, Prompto's just staring through the view-finder, head angled up. He's gone absolutely sheet-white – looks like he might pass out. He says, "Noct," very softly, like it's a plea.
Then the world explodes, and something slams into Noctis with the force of a subway train, and everything goes dark.
-
I adore Asidian’s writing, especially for Prompto. This, and any of their other fics you should absolutely check out!
Honor Bound by The_Asset6 (125k words)
It’s still hard for Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto to believe that Noctis has been gone for a year. However, when an old ally appears to tell them that what is gone might not be lost after all, that spark of hope they kept alive during their ten years apart is rekindled. Their only question: what will they have to sacrifice this time in order to bring their brother back alive?
-
This fic focuses more on the bros rather than Noctis himself, and it was really nice to see from their POV how far they’d go to get Noct back. A longer read but didn’t drag, great fic!
Somnus Ultima by The_Asset6 (349k words)
King Regis and Queen Aulea’s desire for a child has finally been fulfilled, as well as their kingdom’s need for an heir to the throne. However, when a dark mage with a vendetta against Lucis blesses the young prince with a deadly curse, they realize that no sacrifice is too much when it comes to someone you love.
But too much, it turns out, is never enough.
-
A sleeping beauty AU! I won’t lie, this one is long, but it’s so worth it. I don’t typically like AU fics, preferring canon-compliant work, but I gave this one a chance and didn’t regret it. The author made great use of the characters and created a lengthy but not hard to read story that was very enjoyable.
Reliance, Resolve by Gnine (13k words)
"Where are you?"
Noct. Voice controlled, each word precise and even. In other words, pissed off to the point of seething. Prompto had obviously screwed up. Again. Seemed about all he was capable of doing lately when it came to Noct—and just about everything else.
-------
Prompto's self-reliant streak kicks into overdrive, sending his life into a tailspin.
-
A nice pre-game fic centered around Prompto, giving some insight to his and Noct’s relationship. Author tagged as pre-slash.

opinion on ffxv after 75 hours of playing (and one hour of running in circles to level gladio's skill up) (still haven't played any of the dlcs but i'm gonna take a break or something for a few days because i severely neglected my university stuff and spent most of the last week obsessively playing this game)
i love this game. am i tired? hell yeah. would i want all these hours back? hell no.
the game is a mystery to me.
the sidequests are genshin impact open world quests level (which means that if i hear anyone talking, i'm pressing the skip button because i don't give a fuck). you listen to someone yapping about unimportant stuff and they make you collect the same shit over and over again. peak game design.
the main quests are good but the ending made me age 10 years in a week. there's NO NEED for these tragedies. boy you literally have the power of gods on your side and they tell you the only way to get rid of the big bad villain is to kill yourself? sounds like bullshit to me. also why even bother if there's only a few thousands people left in the world. you already lost, all this stuff had to be done 10 years ago to have any meaning. and there's no way the world didn't just implode or something when the sun stopped rising. the true ending is noctis getting spat out of the crystal and realising everyone is long gone because there's no sunlight.
the mentally ill hobo could have been more cooperative too geez. i'll be honest i like him much more than the six. and everyone's like "oh gods are helping you" no they hate me and want me to die for no reason. i'd rather join forces with ardyn and try to take them down. even if he did a lot of questionable stuff (cough- killed my bride -cough-cough- and her brother -cough- also kidnapped my friend and tortured him-)
the hunts are kinda fun when it's a big monster but when it's a bunch of goblins i'm like,,, why did you call me here? ngl i thought all hunts would be like the first one, it was truly cool. there was some kind of plot, some interactions with my friends, some stealth, the monster seemed really tough (meanwhile me, fighting the lvl 99 adamantoise 65 hours later: the ring of lucii go brrr-)
the dungeons are ass. i thought nothing could be as disorienting as daggerfall's randomly generated dungeons but they really managed to do a miracle with ffxv. although the dungeons in ffxv are not scary at all, that's the difference.
the open world is okay. there're some interesting places (when you first see the big mysterious creature in the lake you're like do i have to fight it?? can i get closer to it?? what is this??) and the nature is beautiful. altissia looks majestic but sadly there's not much to do. i appreciate the hard work tho.
using regalia was a delight. when you want to take a break and just look at the landscape you can just sit still with a controller in your hands and enjoy the ride. really therapeutic. don't drive at night when you're low level though... listen to ignis. ignis is always right.
the camp life is by far the best out of all games i've had an experience with. there's so many little details everywhere that you cannot help but adore your companions. it's the way every time you make camp you get a bunch of photos prompto took since the last break. it's the way your companions talk to you almost all the time and you truly feel like you are on a road trip with your friends. it's the way gladio calls you out on your bullshit and afterwards you want to bite his head off each time you talk to him. it's the way ignis cooks for the entire party and makes you help him sometimes. i just love the way friendship is portrayed here.
what was not as good is luna and noct's relationship. there was not enough of luna. yes she loves noct but why? yes noct loves luna but why? luna literally appeared in the plot for two minutes and then tragically died. i think it's really bad. also imagine not seeing your bride for 12 years, when you finally meet her again she immediately dies, then you spend 10 years trapped in a crystal, fucking die and then get to marry your bride. honey it's been 22 years since i last talked to you in person. i'm NOT marrying a random woman in the afterlife (no hate for luna, just this love story didn't seem convincing enough). hopefully i'm gonna see what they wrote in the dawn of the future soon (please pray so that my amazon package doesn't get lost 🙏)
the music is incredible. the woman who wrote the soundtrack is my goddess and i am a devout worshipper 🙏🙏🙏
so, why is the game a mystery to me? because no other game could make me endure 75 hours of boring side quests. i managed to play hogwarts legacy for 44 hours and i despised that game when i finished it. i despised it long before i finished it. but not ffxv. they could make me do all this boring stuff again and i would do it (not for free tho because i've got better things to do with my time 🤣)
i enjoyed ffxv a lot. it also made me depressed for a week because ending a game like that should be a crime. i think i'm gonna do a few last quests after that but there's not much left (and i'm not looking for more because if i think i am done then i am done). not sure how long episodes gladiolus, prompto and ignis are gonna take, but they're also in my plans (no ardyn tho, gotta go watch some playthrough). there's also anime and a film so plenty of content for me. and i am waiting for the arrival of my book 🫡
(noticed that there's nothing about the combat. well it's because i don't care. i don't like combat. i don't like it in any game. i prefer to flee)

"Just do it," (#12), promptis? :3c
"Just do it."
Noctis shakes his head. "I can't."
"Whyever not, Noct?" Ignis says. He pushes his glasses up, as serious as if they were going over the meeting minutes sent from the Capital.
"Because," Noctis says, as if that explains it.
Gladio rolls his eyes. He's tapping his foot, but he makes no move to exit the conversation. Noctis' retainers are more like big brothers sometimes, and that's great, because he knows they truly do have his back, but it's also the worst, because they will gladly wait him out for situations like this.
Which is Noctis calling a timeout in his living room on Thursday afternoon, because Prompto has a shift at the grocery store and thus has no chance hearing this disaster of a conversation.
"Come on princess," Gladio says. "What's the worst that can happen?"
"He might laugh?" Noctis says, throwing his hands up. "And then end our friendship and then unfriend me on Mooglebook and then disappear from my life because he hates me forever?"
Ignis sighs. "You are catastrophizing."
"I don't think that kid has a hateful bone in his tiny shrimp body," Gladio adds. "Just do it."
"I must agree," Ignis says. "Besides. If you don't, I believe it will be quite unavoidable the next time he comes over."
Three pairs of eyes turn to the gigantic chocobo sitting in Noctis' living room.
Gladio claps Noctis on the shoulder. "Yeah, buddy, this one's on you. Can't half-ass it now."
Noctis flops back against the sofa. "Fine. Tomorrow, I, Noctis Lucis Caelum, am going to ask Prompto Argentum, pure sunshine in homework form, out on a date."
Ignis smiles over his teacup. "That's more like it."

"no, you didn't just call me 'love' you said 'my love'. that makes a huge difference." Ignis and noct?
Tumblr media
Noctis's head was swimming around with so many thoughts that he thought he would drown. The migraine he had carried all day didn't help things. Much less did his posture tamper down the ache as he was sitting slouched forward on a stool near the kitchen island of his apartment with his head laying against the countertop.
Occasionally, Noctis's gaze would follow Ignis as he went about cooking dinner. Tonight was fresh poultry from Insomnia's upper district, along with some imported fruits from Tenebrae. He could smell the seasonings Ignis doused the meat in, and he felt his stomach rumble at the prospects of having a decent meal instead of instant noodles which had become an addiction so bad it would put Gladio to shame.
There was a lot that went through his mind. Assignments long past due, people at school still treating him different because he was royalty, and of course there was a fine helping of guilt as he continued to observe Ignis.
"Can I ask you something?" Noctis near grumbled under his breath as he raised his head from the countertop.
"If it's cheating on your writing assignment, the answer remains a solid no." Ignis said as a matter of fact as he closed the fridge door.
"You're no fun," Noctis playfully mocked. He sighed and propped his chin under his arm. "Why did you call me that earlier?"
"Hm?"
"The love thing."
Ignis shrugged. "I called you love as a term of endearment like I do for everyone else back at the palace."
"No," Noctis shook his head. "You didn't just call me 'love', you said 'my love'. That makes a huge difference."
Ignis didn't reply and kept going through the motions to get dinner ready. Noctis glared all the while, feeling a strange tension start in his throat and working its way down to his stomach. He didn't like it when people weren't direct with him. He especially hated it when his father, the great king himself performed such tactics to avoid a serious conversation he was in no mood to entertain.
Right at the precipice before Noctis was about to explode, did Ignis clear his throat as he began to sauté the meat.
"Let me put it this way," Ignis began. "We've known each other for quite some time, and the simple term of 'love' doesn't quite extend the warmth I want to convey."
"Warmth?" Noctis muttered.
"Correct," Ignis gave a nod and turned the heat down on the meat. "You're not simply my master and I your servant in the same vein as you're not my son and I am not your secondary parent. We're beyond these two points as far as I'm concerned. In addition, by no means are we friends."
"So what does that make us then?" Noctis felt himself getting more confused by the second. He closed his eyes for a short moment only to flinch and open them back up as Ignis gently placed down dinner in front of him.
"I'd like to think of us as brothers, and in my family, we affectionately referred to one another as 'my love' in that case."
Noctis looked between the meal and Ignis, unsure of what to say as he could feel the weight of Ignis's words. He was happy the silence didn't linger too long as Ignis spoke again.
"If it offends his majesty, perhaps I can--"
"No," Noctis interrupted. He shook his head and leaned up further in his seat. "It doesn't offend me, I just--"
He really didn't know what to say, and made a fist when he thought back to his earlier outburst. Ignis didn't deserve the flighty tantrum of a brooding teenager, yet Noctis knew he gave him a taste and then some. However, unlike his father, Ignis stuck around even amidst the chaos.
Ignis wasn't his father. He wasn't Regis.
When Noctis really thought it through, he realized neither man deserved the cold shoulder he had been freely giving to them both.
His eyes began to brim with tears.
"Noct?"
"I don't deserve that." Noctis admitted bitterly. "It's something special, and I'm not--"
"Oh Noct," Ignis sighed. He shook his head and approached Noctis and gave him a pat on the shoulder before he was soon embraced with a warm hug. He smiled as Noctis finally released the sadness that had been building up within himself, and comforted him while he cried.

Ignis-centric
The fire burned low. With dinner long since finished and the glow of the campsite’s protective barrier casting a soft blue over them, Gladio didn’t bother to feed any more wood into the flames. There was no need - the night was warm and balmy. Noct and Prompto were huddled into each other across from him, shoulders pressed together as they scrolled through something on Noct’s phone. The little screen lit their faces with a light that felt harsh compared to that of the wards. Ignis was finishing up what little cleanup their dinner required. It was peaceful and familiar. Until Gladio broke the silence. “Too bad we had to stop here…”

“Sometimes you’re my advisor, and then other times you’re more like my mother! Why the hell can’t you just be my boyfriend?!” Noctis yelled, angry tears streaming from his eyes. “Because more often than not, I’m far more than just your boyfriend! Noctis, I love you, but my job goes beyond our companionship or relationship! At the end of the day, you knew I would have to not only be your partner, but your advisor still!” Ignis threw back, gritting his teeth as he, too, fought against the tears that burned his eyes. “Can’t you just be my boyfriend for two minutes without being my advisor at the same time? Are you even capable of that?! Six, sometimes I wish those stories my dad read us as kids were real and the fae could just take you away and bring someone else!” Ignis, whose mouth was open to throw back a retort, shut quickly as his jaw set tight. There were wet spots on his glasses to go with the tear tracks that now shone on his face. “Sometimes I wish the same thing, if only to see you happier.”

To Ignis' surprise, Ravus snorted loudly. "Really? Didn't you spend a year on the road after Insomnia's fall?" “Well," Ignis admitted, feeling like the city boy he had been in front of the brazen wildness of Leide all those years ago," we were lucky to have a mechanic helping us.” If Ignis had been asked to pinpoint the moment he had started to understand Ravus, it wouldn't have been when the man had reached Tent City for the first time, a wave of refugees in tow, nor when he had fought along Ignis' side for the first time. It would have been the moment when they had stood together in front of that open trunk. If Ravus was to say when he had first started to fancy Ignis - although never aloud - he would have chosen that moment too.

Funny thought I had for Phe Ulric AU - the chocobros are playing Fuck Marry Kill. Now it's Phe's turn and his choices? Noctis, Ignis and Gladio.
Phe: . . . I would kill Noct, marry Ignis and fuck Gladio.
Now Phe has to explain his reasoning without explaining he's related to one of those people or getting suspected of treason. He Regrets everything that led to this moment.
"What about you, Phe?"
"Kill Noct," he says instantly, ignoring his best friend's gasp of betrayal. Tilting his head back, he hums, debating... "Fuck Iggy and marry Gladio," Phe decides. Ignis is great and Phe loves his cooking, but really who wouldn't wanna be married to hiding-it-badly romantic Gladiolus Amicitia?
'Sides, Phe's always wanted a little sister and, since Dad isn't getting on with that, Iris is perfect.
"I would marry you," the Crown Prince of Lucis gasps out, his hand pressed to his chest. "And you would kill me? For Gladio?"
"Watch it, Princess. Can't help it if Phe knows I'm the best."
"How dare-"
Phe grins. "I don't know, bro, Gladio has a point," he says, slow and easy, as his best friend works himself up. "He'd get up and do my morning runs with me. Ifrit, he'd probably even buy me flowers."
"I'd buy you flowers," Noct mutters, pouting.
His pout only deepens when Iggy coughs to hide his laugh.
"Seriously though, Phe? Why kill me?"
"You're family, Noct," he shrugs and it isn't a lie. Even if it wasn't truer than his best friend knows, even if Noct wasn't technically his uncle, he'd still love him like the brother he is to him. "I love you, but not like that; I ain't fucking you."
Noct chokes.
"'Sides," he says. "Iggy's hotter than you are."
Huh.
He didn't know Ignis could blush like that.

FFXV and Assassin´s Creed AU
This AU is for @versusthirteen. Don´t worry, I will write the bickering fic just need some time (lot of time, because the other asks that I need to post first). But instead have some of my quick headcanons when the two worlds collide :) (I have some more, If you wanted?)
--
Due to Isu and Astrals shenaningas Noctis with boys ended in other dimension. With their luck, in middle of assault on the assassins. Noctis uses his powers which reacts even more violently in this world. “ Who the hell are you, dudes?” said man with white hood, while covering. “Well, I am -” Gladio turns his head “ Less talking Noct, more fighting.” Desmond and others took boys with them to their hideout, even if Lucy and Shaun were mistrusting at first.
- there is so many questions about their origin and powers, it was intimidating
- Noct showed them his arminger “ That is remarkable! Becca, do you think we could replicate something like that?” “ Shaun, I am tech not a damn magician.” “ But with the right equiptment and Isu artefact, it could be possible, no?” Lucy said thoughtfully.
- Ignis ultimately wins them with his cooking. “ Pardon me, but you can´t seriously eat fast food all the time, right?” Becca repairing computer answered. “ Not all the time, we also have some energy bars.” Needless to say, Ignis was horrified. He prepared for all of them 5 course meal. “Ignis, you are the best cook ever, aren´t you in need for a wife?” “ Or husband, If you swing that way.”
-  Ignis and Shaun bicker with each other like a married couple. They even had a three hour debate about “Why is tea better than your stinky muddy coffee, Scientia.” “ I would rather drink mine than your tasteless dry leafes with hot water, Hastings.” IT.WAS.SCARY.
- Desmond thinks of Noctis and Prompto as younger brothers that he never had, of course they are his partners in crime (Wish he could intruduce them to Clay, who would also loved them)
- Lucy shares with them the three tenets of assassins:  Stay one's blade from the flesh of the innocent; draw not attention to oneself whenever possible; and never compromise the brotherhood. “In other words” Des joined in the conversation,” don´t stabby stab wrong people, be good at hide and seek and bros before corruption.”
- “ Hey, Becca, Des wanna hear a joke?” “ Sure, sunshine.”  “ Hit us with it, Prompt.”  “ Okie dokie, do you know without what you can´t spell assassin? “ Lucy, Shaun, Ignis and Gladio side-eyeing him. “Without what Prompt?” inquired Noct. “ Obviously, without ass, sass and sin.” “ And I have all of it!” exclaimed Des. “ Desmond, bloody hell!”
- Rebecca shows boys her “Baby”, which are impressed with her skills. Prompto is allowed to help her.
- Gladio is jogging every morning with the girls. He´s being very supportive and shares fitness tips
- But boys weren´t the only one, who was accidentaly send to this dimension ...
“Oh, well hello there, young man! What a nice abodement you have here.”
Daniel is shocked and pulls out a gun. “ Who the fuck are you!?” The man before him looked so real, was the Bleeding effect kicking in again?
“Now now, young man. Why such animosity? I believe we can fix each other problems.”
Daniel´s eyebrow quirks. “ What problem?” “ Oh, isn´t that obvious? You´re looking for some trouble maker named Desmond, correct? I can help you find him, but I also want something in return. A little service of gratitude, so to speak.”
Daniel studied the man´s face. He didn´t trust him, but he would lie if he said he wasn´t intrigued. “For the record, I don´t trust you. But I am kinda impressed you´ve got through our security.” which would be fired, when he wraps it up here, “ but I am not the one who you should ask for favour, If if it turns out that you are valuable asset.”
“ Oh my, so guarded. But believe me, you´re not gonna regret it.”
The man smiled creepily. Daniel shivered at that. He had unshaky feeling that he just get into some clusterfuck.
The man tips his hat.“ Oh, but where are my manners! Let me introduce to you, my name is Ardyn Izunia.”
Please, read this in Ardyn´s voice. It gets much better XD

Polaroid - Whumptober day 9
Fandom: Final Fantasy XV Character: Prompto Argentum Rating: Teen and up Warnings: Implied Eating Disorder/General Unhealthy Relationship with Food
Read below the cut or on AO3 here.
Noct’s never managed to go to Prompto’s house before. It’s not like he hasn’t tried before, even asked Ignis to get the place cleared so he could visit, but Prompto, while never outright rejecting the idea, always managed to distract Noct enough that they just ended up hanging out at his own apartment again.
So when he finally gets his chance - he may or may not have started a small fire while trying to make himself a midnight snack and now his kitchen has to be repainted, so they can’t do their school project at his place - he’s dying of curiosity. He’s not even sure why he’s so excited. Maybe it’s just that he’s never had the experience of visiting a friend at home, excluding Ignis and Gladio of course, which is different because he’s known them both from birth so they might as well be his brothers.
Noct is fascinated by the neighbourhood alone, the little gardens, the old lady waving at Prompto when they walk by, the cat staring at him from someone’s window. It’s… nice, and so full of life, especially compared to the almost sterile atmosphere of the Citadel and even Noct’s apartment building.
When Prompto opens the front door and lets Noct into his house, it’s immediately clear why he's always tried so hard to prevent Noct from coming over. It’s not that the house is ugly, or dirty or anything. It’s just a house, small with well-loved furniture and a fine layer of dust on the shelves. A normal house, or at least what Noct imagines to be a normal house. But that’s exactly the problem seems to have. He thinks Noct will be, what, disgusted? Offended that there is no red carpet for him? It’s stupid, and Noct’s not about to let Prompto beat himself up over it.
So he beelines for the couch where he spies two game controllers and plops down onto it, snatching one of the controllers before he sinks back into the couch.
“Now that Specs isn’t here to nag, wanna get your ass kicked before we do our stuff?”
As he hoped, Prompto grins and throws himself onto the couch as well.
“No way, dude, you’re gonna get your ass kicked!”
----
When they finally do reluctantly move over to the big table to get started on their project, Noct asks if he can get himself something to drink because like hell he’s going to have Prompto wait on him in his own house.
He’s already by the fridge when he hears Prompto jump up from the couch and shout, “Shit, no, wait-” but Noct has already seen what Prompto's trying to prevent him from seeing.
There’s a photo taped to the fridge door, surrounded by sticky notes containing Prompto’s handwriting. The photo is of a boy, around twelve years old, and Noct recognises him immediately, but the sticky notes are the real shock here - they're... they're just so mean, why would Prompto write these things about himself?
He doesn’t manage to catch much more than a glimpse of the self-deprecating words on the sticky notes before Prompto’s hand catches his shoulder and pulls him away from the kitchen entirely.
“I’ll get it, you just go sit down, our fridge is weird, it gets stuck sometimes, just tell me what you want dude and I’ll get it for you.” he rambles, fake smile plastered on as he all but manhandles Noct back onto the couch.
“Prompto-” Noct tries, but Prompto pretends he doesn’t hear him as he rummages around the kitchen. He tries again, louder, but when that too goes ignored, he stands again and tentatively pads back to the kitchen.
Prompto’s torn the photo off the fridge and is just pulling off the last of the sticky notes, and when he turns around, his eyes, Noct notices with horror, are red and his expression crumbles.
“You… weren’t supposed to see that,” he says weakly. He’s clearly trying not to cry, and he refuses to meet Noct’s eye.
“What, the photo?” Noct says stupidly, because of course he means the photo, but Prompto shakes his head.
“ Me, ” he says, miserably, and suddenly everything clicks into place.
Prompto’s weird around food. He’ll eat junk food with Noct, but he’ll whine about how he’ll have to make up for it, and make up for it he does - they’re friends on that fitness app Gladio makes Noct use and he sees the insane routes Prompto runs.
When Noct refuses to eat his veggies, Prompto rescues them from his plate and then claims he’s too full to eat the carbs remaining on his plate. And more than once, Noct has watched him reading the small writing on food packaging just a little too intensely.
“Prompto, did you think I didn’t know that about you?” he asks, very slowly, because surely Prompto can’t be that much of an idiot.
Apparently, though, he is, because he gapes at Noct for a good few seconds because he manages a high-pitched, “You knew?! ”
“Of course I knew!” Noct snaps, confused and feeling out of his depth. “We met back then, don’t you remember?”
“Well, yeah! That’s when I decided I needed to lose weight if I wanted to befriend you!”
Noct freezes. “What?”
“Dude, you wouldn’t have looked at me twice back then!”
That… shit, that hurts more than Noct could have expected, and to his utter horror, when he reaches up to rub his suddenly itchy eyes, his hand comes away wet.
He quickly turns, but it’s too late - Prompto has seen it.
“Noct-" he says, but Noct strides out of the door without looking back, only barely managing to snatch his bag on the way out.
Prompto doesn’t follow him.
----
They don’t talk the next day at school, and then it’s the weekend and for the first time in weeks, Prompto doesn’t spend it at Noct’s apartment.
More than once, Noct reaches for his phone, only to remember how much it stung, the implication that he’s so shallow that he wouldn’t be friends with someone based on their appearance.
Ignis tries to talk to him but Noct shuts him out until he gives up, leaving him alone with a quiet promise to listen if he finds he does want to talk about whatever has occurred.
For most of the weekend, Noct allows himself to wallow in his misery, but by Sunday evening, he’s both sick of being mad at Prompto and dreading the next school day without his best friend to spend it with.
His best friend. That’s who Prompto is, and wouldn’t it be stupid to throw it all away, just because he got his feelings hurt? His first friend who isn’t an employee of his father’s, who spends time with him because he wants to and not because he’s stuck with him.
He… he doesn’t want to lose that.
So finally, he opens his messenger app and starts typing.
You [20:13]: can we talk?
He tries not to be relieved when his phone vibrates with a reply barely a minute later.
Prompto [20:14]: probably a good idea yeah
Prompto [20:14]: can i come over?
You [20:15]: yeah
Prompto [20:15] gimme 30 mins
It barely takes Prompto 20 minutes. He rings the doorbell instead of barging in like he usually does, and when Noct goes to open it, Prompto gives him a crooked smile.
"Hey," Noct says and awkwardly gestures at the couch. "Let's just get it over with?"
Prompto nods and follows him to the couch, and once he's sitting, he says, "Noct"
"Prompto," Noct says at the same time, and then they pause and say simultaneously, "You first."
Ironically, that breaks the tension immediately and they both start grinning.
"Okay, but really," Noct says, "Wanna go first?"
"Sure." Prompto studies his hands for a while before he takes a deep breath and starts talking.
Noct listens, really listens, and then he talks, and then Prompto kind of cries a little and Noct tries very hard not to cry, and then it's close to midnight when they both fall asleep on the couch, legs entangled and sort of leaning against each other.
They've got school tomorrow and Noct knows he's gonna wake up with one hell of a backache, but the relief over not having lost his best friend drowns out everything else.

😈, 🎯, 🧠(Gladio) ?
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
Yes, mwahahaha. 😈
I mean, I love cliffhanger endings and all the screaming they cause, and there have been a couple points in Thirst and a couple of my other fics where I deliberately planted cliffhangers just for the reaction -- but I think the meanest thing I did was in the Kingslayer chapter of Cracked, when Ignis kills Noctis.
I was in the middle of writing a completely different chapter for that scenario -- Noctis still died, but the killer was someone else -- when I got the idea that it would be WAY BETTER and a MUCH MORE EXCITING chapter beginning if Ignis dropped into the world in the middle of killing Noctis himself. >:)
There was so much screaming in the comments, and I loved it so much. But also, it's probably my favorite chapter of the whole fic.
🎯 Have any of your readers accurately guessed major plot points? Care to share which?
There were a couple points in Cracked where readers guessed things...! I can't remember exactly who, and there's 1500 comments to sort through to find it, but a reader guessed that Ignis would be able to use Noct's hammerspace to drag things with him from world to world, and that ended up being a key point.
There were a lot of guesses (suggestions, really) about the different AUs that would be included in Cracked, but I don't really count those. I asked for suggestions, and actually used some of them.
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.
Ahhh, Gladio...!
Gladio's the big brother I wish I'd had. Seriously. (I'm an oldest child, so it's not like I'm dissing anyone to say this.) I have all these headcanons about him and his sister, and their relationship that is mostly practical jokes and fun teasing, but also he just can't say no to her EVER.
And I like to think that, after his Brotherhood episode, his relationship with Noctis transforms at least a little, and he sees and treats him less as an annoying, spoiled prince and more like a little brother.
Events on the train notwithstanding. (Honestly, I don't think Gladio's train explosion and him treating Noctis like a brother are mutually exclusive.)
Thanks for the ask, Sanity! 💞

okay, now i've fully played through Verse 2 with the subtitles mod. and while i enjoyed it much more now that Ignis doesn't sound yandere for his brother, i still don't think it makes sense. and i know it doesn't technically have to, since it's meant to be an alternate ending anyway, but.
i dislike how quickly and seamlessly it goes from Point A to Point B. that's something the canon game already struggled with, and Verse 2 is even worse. in this ending, the events of Episode Prompto never happened. that's a whole chunk of the game that's straight-up missing. but more importantly, Verse 2 erases Noct's character development.
it's a huge deal for Noctis to slowly start to grow up and accept his responsibilities throughout the second half of the main game. and it takes more than just the Train Scene to do it...it's also dealing with Prompto getting kidnapped, being separated from his friends, losing his father's car, etc. there are several events that all build on each other, resulting in Noctis being truly alone for the first time in practically his whole life, with nothing to protect him but the Ring he initially refused to wear.
that's a lot.
and none of it happens in Verse 2.
in the alternate ending, there is no train ride after Altissia. there is no argument, no reason for Gladio to push Noctis into accepting his role, because the catalyst for that (Ignis going blind) didn't happen. no appearance from Luna's spirit, no visit to Tenebrae, no traumatic journey to find Prompto. none of it.
if Verse 2 were to be believed, that would mean that Noctis (after years of relying on others and a history of not wanting to embrace his royal duties) is now showing up, directly to Zegnautus, and immediately saying "I'm sorry. I was weak." before willingly stepping right into the Crystal. and that just doesn't make sense to me at all.
i still believe it is Ignis' fantasy. it's the version of Noctis he never got to know. the one who recognizes everyone's sacrifices and has the self-awareness to make the right choices without having to be pushed. in the canon storyline, we don't get to see this Noctis until the night before the final battle. and it makes more sense to me that Ignis would want to imagine a world like that, than believing Noctis as a character could just do a complete 180 in maturity in such a short amount of time.
also, i continue to find the final scene of Noctis on the throne to be very unsettling.
the room is completely empty and has a distinct blueish tone that makes it seem cold (as opposed to other scenes featuring the Citadel's throne room, where there are people and you can see warm light streaming through). it is silent. even Ignis' words are silent. and Noctis looks far too serious.
i don't think it's really Noctis at all.

@royalbratprince  from here He's so sure he has a response to that until he actually tried to answer.  All Noctis can do it open his mouth to no sound and then close it again, swallowing.  He's got a point, doesn't he?  They're half brothers, his father's sons, and to be separated as they had been feels... wrong.
But it also feels wrong to try and wish any of the pressure or worry he's felt on Ardyn.  Not that he'd have had to deal with much, Noct doesn't think; still the elder brother, the next in line, he'd still have gotten most of the... the everything.  But it might have been a kinder life for Ardyn and his mother and...
The what-ifs are awful.  Their dad... cared, right?  But he didn't... was it enough?  Did he do enough, did he--
Nocts swallows again.  Offers a slightly croaking, "Yeah.  I... think, probably.  Might have been... nicer."  Too late to worry, isn't it?
Maybe not too late to make up for it, even if it's not his responsibility.
“Maybe,” He agreed. “I still wouldn’t give up home for anything. But maybe if we’d known each other, visited all the time? Maybe it would have been better.”
He sighed and leaned back. It had been good to find out Regis didn’t know. That his mother had been protecting him. Had been good to know that it was the assistants that were xenophobic and not dad. But yeah, some part thinks family reunions would have been nice. Seeing Noctis for birthday’s every year and telling him about Altissia. Them planning to go together one day.
“At least we’re together now though,” He said. “It would have been hard, if we were separated like Iris and Gladio. And I’ll be able to show you Altissia right? Actually enjoy it while doing all the work.”
